Third time's not the charm for Kucinich

Rep. Dennis Kucinich would like to have the House debate impeaching Vice President Cheney.

WASHINGTON (CNN) - The House voted Tuesday to stop Rep. Dennis Kucinich's, D-Ohio, effort to bring up a debate on impeaching Vice President Dick Cheney.

Kucinich, who is vying for the Democratic presidential nomination, has tried to bring up the issue on three separate occasions. The House voted 218-194 to send it to committee, effectively killing it.

On the House floor, Kucinich said Cheney "acted in a manner contrary to his trust as vice president." Kucinich also said Cheney harmed national security by openly threatening Iran.

"Vice President Richard B. Cheney by such conduct is guilty of an impeachable offense warranting removal from office," Kucinich said.

White House spokeswoman Dana Perino criticized Democrats in Congress for spending time on this debate rather than focusing on health care for children and veterans.

"This Congress has not sent a single appropriations bill to the president’s desk this year – a new record of failure," Perino said.

"Yet, they find time to spend an entire work period on futile votes to impeach the vice president or to pass contempt citations against the president’s chief of staff and former counsel. It is this behavior that leaves the American people shaking their head in wonder at this Congress,” Perino added.

Since when do Presidential Spokespersons inflict their own editorial comments on legislative proceedings?
Keep your opinions to yourself Dana Perino. Did Dick Cheney tell you you can also create your own job description? If you want to editorialize, get a job at a newspaper.
Kucinich at least has the integrity to call the question regarding the rampant lawlessness in the White House.
There are lives in the balance. These are the darkest time of U.S. History, under our watch.

the dems are losing touch with reality. the war is improving and they will lose the presidency. the more the dems play to the radical left and less to the majority of Americans who are moderate, the more they will lose elections.

I simply don't understand the media's lackadaisical coverage of this issue...this is REAL and it is critical to the integrity of our constitution. The media was all over the Clinton impeachment when it involved sex and scandal. Is that what it takes to get the media to cover something? Would it be your top story if Cheney were being impeached for lying about sex instead of lying about war??????

Why doesn't your acticle mention that it was the Rrepublicans who voted for this, not the Democrats? Also how do you know what John Conners will do in his committee? He wanted to have hearings on inpeachnment and told not to.

The radical Islamists and Liberal Dems have some things in common – they hate Bush and Cheney and work together to destroy this country. In case you don't realize it, they hate the idealogy of the Dems, also... abortion, adultery, homosexuality, etc.

If we do not impeach this administration NOW for its crimes, what atrocities will future presidents be able to unleash upon the World! Cheney and Bush must be made an example of for all future leaders of this nation to show how we treat those who commit war crimes in our name!

WHY?????? are you spinning the story. SHAME ON YOU.

And to the WHITE HOUSE.... it was passed to send it by the REPUBLICANS, not the DEMOCRATS. So to Perino, get your storty straight, the DEMOCRATS voted to kill the bill... the REPUBLICANS voted NOT to kill it (wat more republicans then democrats).

I cannot believe this. I just cannot believe CNN would spin a story with an assumption. SHAME ON YOU!!!!!!! and a HUGEEEEEEEEE Shame on PERINO. You are a dumb you know what. Get your story straight and stop thinking Americans are idiots because a lot of us did watch C-SPAN and listen to Progressive Talk.

I am furious at CNN and will let everyone know. SHAME ON YOU!

The writer of this piece on Kucinich's motion is an idiot. It was sent to the Judiciary Committee. That is where Articles of Impeachment begin, and hearings are held. That is where it began for Nixon!
This is good news! All the criminality will come out in public, on C-SPAN, and may be covered by regular TV.
Republicans think it will make Democrats look bad, but it will show the truth about the Bush/Cheney administration. What could be better, and it couldn't have happened without the Republicans. It was truly bi-partisen.

    CNN LIES.

The major points of the first two paragraphs of your "news" article contain an outright lie and then, an opinion rather than news.

I used to watch CNN for several hours a day, but it now is dishonest, sensational masquerade that pretends to be news.

CNN, you are doing a major disservice to this country and world.

Congress apparently doesn't have anything better to do because Bush keeps vetoing good legislation. So I guess they might as well look into impeaching the most corrupt and morally bankrupt administration in US history. The Valerie Plame case alone was evidence of treason, not to mention the lies that got us into a trillion dollar war, with just a taste of racism (the response to Katrina in New Orleans,) a sprinkle of class warfare (tax cuts for billionaires,) and beating children (with S-CHIP vetoes while they're young and again when they grow up with a national debt in 2008 which will likely be double the level in 2000.) Impeach away!

I am so dissapointed in my Democratic Leadership, with the one exception rep Dennis Kucinich. He is the only Dem leader who's sense of Justice and the constitution is great and important enough to demand action. To Bad our other "Leaders," don't think so. Lets hope Rep John Conyer's committee will uphold their oath to defend the Constitution, and realize they are committed to defend our Country.
God Bless Dennis Kucinich. Jack r

If any American doesn't find Cheney's impeachment necessary they don't understand the rules of law. No man is above the law not even the VP. If I were Bush I would support an impeachment, Cheney destroyed Bush's presidency, even if he was to stupid to stop it.

Congress HAS tried and tried again to get Healthcare and dozens of important issues signed into law but the President just throws everything in the garbage and he and his mouthpiece Petrino say they're doing their job but Congress isn't?That in and of itself is criminal!

If they locked up Cheney for all the crimes he's committed he'd still be there several hundred years after Bush's policies have wiped everyone else off of the face of the earth!

If they got rid of everyone in this criminal out of office there wouldn't be anyone in this administration left.

Bush and Cheney should be the guests of honor at a necktie party and hung upside down just like Mussolini and used as pinatas by the orphans and widows they have created throughout the world.

Kucinich isn't ever going to be president anyway but at least he's forcing Congress to keep looking at the horror that they have let this administration get away with.

The majority of Americans want to impeach Cheney now! A poll conducted by The American Research group on July 5, 2007 found that 54% of American adults want the US House of Representatives to begin impeachment proceedings against Vice President Dick Cheney while only 40% opposed. The National Coalition of American Nuns states that they are "impelled by conscience to call you to act promptly to impeach President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney for high crimes and misdemeanors". The National Lawyers Guild unanimously and enthusiastically passed a resolution on Nov. 2nd, supporting the impeachment of Bush and Cheney. Thank you for listening, Congressman Kucinich!

I can't believe how hot his wife is...he should give up on becoming a President, and impeaching Cheney and just go home and enjoy his hot wife. I think that Cheney should invite Hillary, Bill, and the rest of the Dumbocrats to go hunting with him.

Impeach the president or vice president? It is amazing that democrats by and large are so blind. Impeachments are restricted to high crimes or treason. So lets see...what is the administration's high crimes and treason...

    1) Many democrats claim the war is illegal and deceptive

Rebuttal: The war was not illegal. The war on terror started when planes flew into the world trade center, into the pentagon, and into a field. We have fought in Afghanistan, and progress is being made, but brave American soldiers continue to die there. In light of the failure of the democratic strategy of non-response to smaller terror episodes/warning signs, President Bush made the honorable decision to engage the Axis of Evil – the rogue nations most likely to deliberately harm and massacre innocent American citizens. We have recently liberated a country called Iraq from dictatorship, and democratic progress is being made. Also, the terrorists are being fought in their own soil instead of our soil. Unfortunately, American soldiers die in Iraq just like in Afghanistan, but that is the cost of war – both wars are pretty much the same.

    2) Threatening Iran endangers national security

Rebuttal: Iran has been identified as a potential menace to the safety of this country. This did not change after Cheney's comments. The nation has engaged in terrorist activities. The government is a theocracy based on Islam. Meaning the government is entirely based on the strict teachings of the religion of Islam – which is why they conduct these activities to kill those who do not worship the "right" religion. Lets look at the Koran...

"O you who believe! do not take the Jews and the Christians for friends; they are friends of each other; and whoever amongst you takes them for a friend, then surely he is one of them; surely Allah does not guide the unjust people."

"he who amongst the community of Jews or Christians hears about me, but does not affirm his belief in that with which I have been sent and dies in this state (of disbelief), he shall be but one of the denizens of Hell-Fire."

No wonder there'll be eternal war among the religions.

The effort is admirable, but it seems a bit too late.

Do you believe Presidential Candidate Dennis Kucinich's efforts to force a debate on impeaching Vice President Dick Cheney self serving?

Exactly what crime did Cheney supposedly commit? Since when is talking about Iran an impeachable offense? The hate Bush lunatics are continuing to make fools out of themselves...but even Nancy Pelosi is not crazy enough to start impeachment proceedings.

Cheney should be impeached, as well as his boss, President Bush. And criminal charges should be filed against Karl Rove, for the elections violations in 2000 and 2004. The administration wants a bill sent to the White House from Congress? And what grand policy has the White House initiated? Guilty!
I have never before been so disgusted with the office of the President.

I expect better reporting CNN. This story tries to slant Rep. Kucinich resolution as futile. I am very glad he made it. He is trying to do the right thing for the American people. Both the President and the Vice President should be impeached for crimes against the American people and the Constitution of the United States of America.
