Edwards received key endorsement Friday in Iowa.

DES MOINES, Iowa (CNN) — Former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards received aboost Friday from Caucus for Priorities, a group launched by Ben & Jerry's ice cream co-founder Ben Cohen, that aims to eliminate wasteful Pentagon spending.

Cohen described Edwards as "a leader who listens, and always gives the straight answers Americans deserve from their president."

"As commander-in-chief, he'll do whatever it takes to keep us safe but he'll also make sure Americans have health care, strong schools, and the

opportunity to get ahead. He'll eliminate billions in wasteful Pentagon
spending, and put our budget back in line with our values."

Edwards cited the issue of Blackwater to highlight the fact that government
spending needs to be scrutinized.

Caucus for Priorities says the endorsement represents 10,000 Iowa caucus
goers who will now pledge to support Edwards in January.

And everyone who votes for him gets a free pint of Cherry Garcia.

Another key endorsement for Edwards. He's running an old school grassroots campaign, just the kind that wins elections over the machine.

Pete, Los Angeles, CA   November 9th, 2007 7:08 pm ET

Hmmm…Ben Cohen actually expects me to believe that a guy who spends $400 for a haircut is actually gonna eliminate wasteful Pentagon spending??? Hahaha…he's gotta be kidding me!

The momentum is building just at the right time!

Edwards has the best chance of beating any Republican in 2008.

'Deal-makers' like Hillary Clinton will always be welcome in Washington, a Populist like John Edwards will have to contend with rougher treatment by entrenched interests. It certainly seems time for America to turn away from the 'Corporate Republic' we are becoming. Let's hope he can do that.

opportunity to get ahead to Edwards means raising taxes and taking half our more of what successful people have achieved to give to ghetto baby mamas and lowlifes who think government handouts are their birthright. A Hillary Obama or Edwards victory will mean a slow slide towards socialism, higher and higher taxes every year and more gov't regulations.

All Edwards knows is how to sue people. Dang trial lawyer is all he is. WORTHLESS!

jld, baton rouge   November 9th, 2007 9:03 pm ET

This bozo would sue terrorists instead of hunting them down. What a laugh. Time to let your wife speak for you again.

Robert, Houston TX   November 9th, 2007 9:18 pm ET

OMG! Are you people kidding? Edwards- a strong candidate? He is far beind all the major GOP candidates- the polls have him doing horribly against Rudy and even Romney. He couldn't even make NC close in '04 as Kerry lost that state in a landslide! People in the NE don't like him- as the polls clearly show. BESIDES- Edwards is a one state man- Iowa! That is it! He has lived there for 3 years and outside of Iowa Edwards couldn't be elected dog catcher!

Earl, Ohio   November 10th, 2007 12:57 am ET

Oh no! Some of the people on this blog don't agree with the endorsement! We only support Hillary, because we walk through life with Blinders on and refuse to think for ourselves. Instead, we only vote for people whos laste names are Bush or Clinton. We like corruption in our government. All we can think of is "$400 haircut" and "breck boy", because we're all of 10 years old mentally, and we can't put forth a logical argument on issues. Why, that might require reading, and while we can read, we're not quite to the stage of comprehension yet.

Well, boo-freaking-hoo. If you're a Clinton supporter, you are a sheep. Please get in line with all the other sheep who are afraid to resist the shears.

It's comments like this that let me know that america is in trouble.

That does it, back to buying Breyers. No way am I eating anything that even indirectly approves of Edwards.

Michael D. Griffin, Two Rivers, Alaska   November 10th, 2007 11:25 am ET

Please get it right — the Blackwater mess was the U.S. State Department's doing, not the Department of Defense (i.e., Pentagon). The State Department contracted with Blackwater because military drawdowns and overseas commitments (i.e, Iraq and Afghanistan combat requirements, as well as Philipines, Somalia, South Korea, etc.) have left DoD unable to provide the guards the State Department feels it needs.

It starts small. By not wasting money with hair cuts…Looks like we have all lost priorities….This guy will loose like nothing better give up!

JerseyJoe   November 10th, 2007 1:19 pm ET

Since when is being backed by an ice cream maker a big endorsement. I bet all the other campaigns are losing alot of sleep over this One! What a joke for this even to be a story!
