a.thomas, new york, ny :

Excellent summary on the course of the probable election outcomes.

I do like Romney, but unlike most conservatives, I am afraid that he will stay very socially conservative as a President. That's why, even though Giuliani is disgusting personally, I hope he'll win the Republican nomination.

Tom Dedham, Mass   November 9th, 2007 3:42 pm ET

After he wins the first few primaries, he will be hard to beat, momentum is important in politics.

Digging up political dirt will be tough on him, but there is some of course as he has changed positions over the years (not in seconds, minutes, debates, days or polls, like what's her name).

Digging up personal dirt on this guy however will be next to impossible, if you want to mock or shun someone for being clean cut, but embrace serial adulterers and those that allow that, then that is your problem.

He will be the nominee and when he drops the Condi Rice or Liz Dole VP bomb on Clinton, Bill will have to come out wagging his finger and biting his lip lying to shore up Hillarity's base.

2008 is gonna be fun.

The fact remains fact: Gov. Romney is leading in Iowa, New Hampshire, and yes! bible belt South Carolina. Isn't this impressive? With Rudy's campaign that will be tremendously wounded by his protégé Kerik, voters will start paying more and more attention to Romney's campaing, ultimately making him a Republican nominee for the White House. Once there, Gov. Romney is home free since no Democtractic canditate will be able to stop him from winning general election.

So for fellows like "no name" Alexandria, VA, get ready now as you will see another Republican president in 2009.

Paul, MA   November 9th, 2007 11:43 am ET

Romney IS very good at running campaigns. He will say anything to get the votes. Unfortunately, it is impossible to grasp what his real stands on issues are since he changes them with the wind. What his true ideals are no one can say. He is all about Mitt and only Mitt.

Farrell, Houston, Tx   November 9th, 2007 11:31 am ET

I'm not a Republican, but where's the dirt on Romney? He doesn't have to defend himself for being a Mormon, that's not a crime. It appears he is clear headed and focused on what's best for this country, however, I don't agree with his opinion on Iraq but no one is in agreement on Iraq.

Karen,ny   November 9th, 2007 11:12 am ET

He won't win in the Bible belt because he is a Mormon. It is just as crazy as Tom Cruise's religion. The people in the Bible belt are already getting ready to pick an Independent candidate because they don't like the Republican choices.

Dan, Saint Louis, MO   November 9th, 2007 11:10 am ET

Romney is running the best campaign out there. He's raised more money than any other Republican, which is crucial for him so that people get to know him. If one thing is clear, Romney is a business genius. He has run a $60 billion company, the Olympics and Massachusetts and has a tremendous record of turning them all around.

While Bush, back in 2000, was known for surrounding himself with the best team of political insiders, Romney is basically is in charge of his own campaign strategy. He'll do wonders on our wasteful practices in Washington.

roger, conway sc   November 9th, 2007 10:59 am ET

Let me just say most people in the south like a smooth talker...this one will not get this southerns vote

Allen, harrisburg pa   November 9th, 2007 10:57 am ET

Mitt's the man. He is the only man or woman in this race that can lead. Period.

Shawnie Cannon, Grants Pass OR   November 9th, 2007 10:16 am ET

Nick in SC

Romney is leading in the polls in SC, are you sure you want your words marked?

Tim, Fairfax, VA   November 9th, 2007 10:08 am ET

And we thought we got tired of "flip-flopper" when it came to Kerry in 2004? Romney won't know what hit him if he's the nominee.

lars, DC   November 9th, 2007 9:49 am ET

I will vote for him. And so will a majority of Iowa, NH and South Carolina. You know why? Because they know him for who he is. He leads the polls where people have met him. And once he wins these states everyone else will catch on that he's the best candidate for president.

IH, New Castle, NH   November 9th, 2007 3:59 am ET

Now here's an idiot I'm NOT voting for...you think Bush is bad? Romney may be worse, and the fact that I'm even saying that should turn people away

Nick, Chester, SC   November 9th, 2007 12:21 am ET

This is the bible belt, Romney doesn't have a prayer here...mark my words.

MITT FAN COLUMBIA MS   November 8th, 2007 11:15 pm ET

Romneys cAMPAIGN IS RUN LIKE A WELL OILED MACHINE. IF HE IS THIS GOOD AT RUNNING FOR PRES JUST THINK OF HOW GREAT HE WILL BE AS PRESIDENT. VOTE FOR CHANGE. VOTE A MAN WITH PROVEN ETHICS AND MORALS. VOTE FOR THE MAN WHO CAN GET THE JOB DONE OVERSEAS AND AT HOME. VOTE FOR THE MAN WHO SEEKS SOLUTIONS NOT EXCUSES. VOTE FOR MITT ROMNEY.

Arkay, MI   November 8th, 2007 10:46 pm ET

To quote the GO chairman of SC, "If we don't have the Mormon issue, he will e the front runner" The fact that this guy actually thinks that Romney's religion is an issue, speaks volumes about him and the GOP.

Alexandria, VA   November 8th, 2007 8:32 pm ET

It is not suprising that Romney is making headway in a conservative state like South Carolina. I think we have to expect that.

This man is even a worse choice than Bush. At least Bush pretended that he would try to unite the American people. Romney bluntly insults anyone who is not a Republican in his televised ads.

If a Republican is elected, I'm taking my family and my tax dollars that currently go to the United States government to another country.

a.thomas, new york, ny   November 8th, 2007 8:26 pm ET

Romney is using the same strategy in winning the other early primary states, Iowa and SC, hoping the win there will reverse his fortune in other states. He has spent lots of time there in making speeches and tons of money there in ads vs other republican candidates.

Obamas has tried to copy Romney in spending lots of time and money in Iowa and New Hampshire as well. He has not succeeded in overtaking hillary yet. Even if he succeeds later in Iowa and NH, Hillary will beat him easily in other states as long as she is the strong second.

Reason for obama to fail? He is not electable because he lost out to hillary to secure the most black and women votes, because he is young and inexperience, because hillary is the only dems canadiate that can win all three swing states from any repub candidate: OH, FL & PA where the prior presidential candidates of Gore and Kerry lost, and because she only needs to win one more state than kerry to become the next president.

Carol Lipski South Carolina   November 8th, 2007 8:17 pm ET

Mitt Romney could very well win in South Carolina. He just might beat McCain here. If he does not win he will get second place.
