The executive producer of '24' is not a Clinton supporter.

WASHINGTON (CNN) - The man who has created several presidents for the hit TV show "24" says it's "nuts" to think of New York Sen. Hillary Clinton being the next real president.

"I'm not even sure that Hillary is a fait accompli [to be the Democratic nominee] at this point," Joel Surnow, the executive producer of the Fox show, told reporters and bloggers over the weekend, according to the Washington Times. "Are we nuts thinking Hillary Clinton could be president of this country?"

"Honest to God, just stand back and think about it," he added.

As for whom he might support, Surnow said he was "probably going to get behind Rudy," referencing former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani.

Earlier this year, Surnow announced that actress and outspoken liberal Janeane Garofalo would star in the show's upcoming season. He has also said the president will be played by a woman.

The difference between this president and all the others is that this president used the ignorant lie – disproven by inspectors and others who knew – to waste the lives of nearly 4,000 American citizens – more than died on September 11 – an countless Iraqis. He has made the world markedly more dangerous and our country more vulnerable. And he has spent a trillion dollars doing it. And all we've gotten out of it is a violation of our Constitutional rights.

Is not the countenance of our global cry, “Who can make war with the beast” of some value within the new marketplace? The delivery man, three bridesmaids standing on a fork, the last piece of cake, children playing in the park, retailers, grocers, gas stations, all for survival and on top of that a military war machine that has added to its slate of abilities that it can bypass the United Nations, scare the hell out of the Chinese, nearly re-unify the Russians and leave a middle eastern nation getting ready to re-invent the aluminum can telephone via a piece of string, once the string is measured. Yeah BABY! Fill up the Pinto with some 92 Octane! I’m on my way to see the hottest flick coming out of BALIWOOD, it is called; “Getting boarded waiting for the lord”. Get this: a “20,000NEWTROOPS’-exit strategy”. “PACK IT UP KIDS! IT’S TIME TO GO! The picnic is over, there are too many in-sects around here”. This just isn’t VIET NAM Mr. B. You pull out too soon and you may have to go back to churning your butter on the intern. That is not a fun embarrassment for Hillary. Three Roman Soldiers cast lots over Jesus clothing. Could it have been a blue dress? Somewhere she was collecting a Club Sandwich. I say, “She should be THE PRESIDENT before Hillary!” AM I NOT WITHOUT REASON?

What's '24'?

Bill -Boston MA   November 13th, 2007 3:37 pm ET

Hillary as president would be bad, very bad. Check out the latest on the upcoming debate where they are telling Wolf Blitzer to not go hard on poor Shillary, and he works for the Clinton News Network (CNN for those not up to speed)

Plotnick   November 13th, 2007 2:40 pm ET

Have any of you read the item? It doesn't say that Garofalo will be playing the president. It just says a woman will be. Jesus, people, learn to read and absorb.

J Houston, TX   November 13th, 2007 2:35 pm ET

I'm not even a Hillary supporter, but why in the world should we care what a tv producer thinks about politics? I wouldn't want to hear sports commentary from Nancy Pelosi and I certainly don't want this idiots opinion about the presidential election.

Why in the world do other Hollywood types get threads about how they support Mrs Clinton? All of Hollywood should stay the hell out of politics, and most of them vote and send money to Democratic Party programs. Be careful what you wish for.

Farrell, Houston, Tx   November 13th, 2007 2:04 pm ET

The last I heard was, "it takes a nut to know a nut".

Anonymous   November 13th, 2007 2:02 pm ET

Rudy Giuliani as President of the United States, "honest to God, just step back and think about it." But, I suppose the present administration has lowered the bar considerably.

JD Rugby ND   November 13th, 2007 1:44 pm ET

I have no desire to see another Clinton in the White House, but to support a Giuliani campaign for president is nuts. That guy is trying to outBush Bush. We can all see for ourselves the disaster of the Bush regime.

Tom, ALBUQUERQUE, NM   November 13th, 2007 12:46 pm ET

Joel Surnow, You will be pleasantly surprised to awaken on Nov. 5, 08 and find that Hillary indeed is the President-elect. Not only is HRC very qualified to be President but she is running a nonpareil campaign. She is doing all the right stuff, she demonstrates aplomb, decisiveness and incredible wisdom in her discourse. THIS WOMAN WILL BE THE NEXT PRESIDENT OF THE USA.

Bubba, Swainsboro GA   November 13th, 2007 12:11 pm ET

Who cares? He's Rush's vicodin buddy anyway, and I never watch his show.

Paul C. Palmetto Bay, FL   November 13th, 2007 12:04 pm ET

Would someone please tell me why this nutcake's opinion matters to anyone? If he influences you then you have my pity and the U.S. is truly doomed.

Obviously CNN and FOX will run any story to fill the 24 hours.

Brian, Robbinsville, NJ   November 13th, 2007 12:02 pm ET

Finally, someone is actually saying what we're all thinking!

foxhater   November 13th, 2007 11:49 am ET

Hello, it's FOX. What do you expect from a network of loonies?

Jack Bauer Los Angeles CA   November 13th, 2007 11:45 am ET

Some of you need to learn how to read. The article does not incorrectly report that Garofalo is going to play the President.
As for those of you blasting Surnow for his opinion. I'm a liberal who watches 24 faithfully. I know what his views are and I don't care. He's perfectly entitled to them and if he has a platform to voice them then good for him. There's room in this country, and in Hollywoodland, for different opinions. I just wish that, as we are seeing the large number of conservatives in media, that we can stop talking about this liberal media nonsense that never existed to begin with.
For those of you who say that the show endorses torture then it's obvious that you don't watch. It explores the intricacies of interrogation. Those instances where torture occurs usually have a negative result.

Manq, Los Angeles, CA   November 13th, 2007 11:44 am ET

How can we still be supporting pro war presidential candidates at this time in history? America just loves to sponsor terrorism through the pretty, clean White House, huh?

Are you people just totally out of your gourd?

R Peacock, Canal Winchester, Ohio   November 13th, 2007 11:42 am ET

How is a tv producer an expert on who is qualified to be president? As Joe Biden said, Rudy is by far the least qualified. Rudy's only reply to questions is '9/11'. By the way,you notice on those 9/11 photo-ops that Rudy was always surrounded by his security detail. Not much of a 9/11 hero!!

Anonymous   November 13th, 2007 11:36 am ET

What is it with people and this moron Guiliani, What has he done to be qualified as President?

Len, Alexandria,KY   November 13th, 2007 11:30 am ET

.. Please advise but who convinced Madelyn Halfbright, Jon Carry, 90 proof Kennedy, Cohen and the rest of the Bubba administration Heavies go on tv and tell the American People that Saddam Hussein had WMD's.. was it W or what????

Ike Woodbridge , VA.   November 13th, 2007 11:28 am ET

Joel Surnow should get a life thinking that it is impossible for Hillary to win the Presidency. She will win, and I hope Mr. loser(24) moves and relocates his very dull T.V. show to Canada. I have no respect for Joel Surnow.

Scott,Jupiter, Florida   November 13th, 2007 11:16 am ET

Joel Surnow!? WHO CARES! You may as well ask the clerk at pizza hut what he thinks about Clinton...it's equally as relevant...this is a poor excuse for a news story. Tighten up CNN.

Daniel Whittaker, San Francisco, CA.   November 13th, 2007 10:32 am ET

Oh please... Joel Surnow gets coverage on your website because he's probably the only idiot Republican you could find in Hollywood (how many weeks did it take you to find this nitwit?) who is STILL, after a 6 year nightmare of lies, stupidity and corruption, STILL going to vote Republican. Like his opinion really matters?? Come on...

Jonathan, Florida   November 13th, 2007 10:09 am ET

"Today, it's about Janeane Garofalo playing the president, but what if the real president told us some foreign dictator had weapons of mass destruction, even though there was not a shred of evidence. Oh, wait…"

JJ:

And worse – this president went back in time and made Pres. Clinton say and accuse Hussein of the same things in the late 90's and early 2000's along with the democratic leaders of congress – who all said he had WMD's and should be removed from power.

The war may have been managed better – but get off the ignorant lie that Pres. Bush lied and made up WMD story. Every American leader in the last 15+ years has said the same thing.

Kirk, CT   November 13th, 2007 9:57 am ET

To the commentators who have told CNN to get their facts straight, I suggest you get your eyes checked. The article does not say Garofalo will play the President.

Mike Kaplan, Philadelphia PA   November 13th, 2007 9:53 am ET

Why is the political view of "the man who has created several presidents for the hit TV show 24" news? Why is it even REMOTELY interesting?

What I can't imagine is how anyone could care less about the views of a TV producer at this point.....and how anyone can imagine that CNN calls itself a "news" network.

Len, Alexandria,KY   November 13th, 2007 9:53 am ET

Can it be that Hollyweird is coming out of the Lunatic FOG and call it Correctly?? All we need is Abrams and Oldumbermann from MSNBC to come out of the Hate fog and take alesson on truth telling and the Country Might be saved!!!

rsisk   November 13th, 2007 9:51 am ET

Gee, this is a shocker. A Republican, who is also on FOX. (supposedly not related to the news channel).

"Honest to God, just stand back and thing about it"......I do the same thing and shake my head when I think of the possibility of Ghouliani becoming President. Yikes. Or for that matter, any of the GOP candidates.

I'm thinking this guy isn't very popular in Hollywood.

JB Boston MA   November 13th, 2007 9:50 am ET

ONE, I repeat ONE Hollywood person comes out in favor of a Republican, and immediately all you left wing loonies come out fighting.

You people are ridiculous!

You seem to love hearing from Garafolo Baldwin, Dixie Chicks etc. . . .

You all are such hypocrites you don't even recognize it!

Moe, NY   November 13th, 2007 9:48 am ET

As usual, anything coming from Fox regarding politics cannot be taken seriously. Fox is nothing more than a Republican propaganda machine. Even Producers are entitled to their opinion, but I question if this particular opinion is that of the man himself, or his employer.

John, Glenmoore PA   November 13th, 2007 9:34 am ET

Who really cares what Joel Surnow thinks. He's a conservative TV producer with a biased opinion towards Republican candidates. Why does he get the air time from CNN?

Jim Topeka, Kansas   November 13th, 2007 9:22 am ET

This one does not even merit a comment. 24hrs, is that show still being aired.

Izabela, Ridgefield,CT   November 13th, 2007 9:21 am ET

This guy is an idiot. Who is he anyway? Is he trying to say that a strong, smart woman can't be a president? Is he trying to say that a woman can't be a president? Would you support Rudy??? Give me a break!
Hilary- Think big and kick ass.
You will be the first female US president and I am convinced you will be the best for this position.

David Hanegraaf, Minneapolis, MN   November 13th, 2007 9:18 am ET

So why should anyone care what Joel Surnow thinks. Why would his opinion be relevant? I don't understand why it is reported on your site. How is it newsworthy?

Chris, Pensacola FL   November 13th, 2007 9:17 am ET

She won't be president. She's a woman for one thing. But the main reason is she will be in prison by election time. It's rather hard to run the country from a jail cell.

Salita, SC   November 13th, 2007 9:14 am ET

For this article to come to the board IT MUST BE A SLOW NEWS DAY! For everyone who thinks the republicans will be tougher, what are they going to say we havent heard a million times already from them? NOTHING! Someone wrote in saying Rudy was moderate enough to win, ok that MIGHT have been true but as of today Rudy has flip flopped on all those issues!

Drew, Chicago, IL   November 13th, 2007 9:12 am ET

One comment indicates Hillary would destory our country. I am not sure how much will be left of it after Bush it out of office as he already has us heading down that path.

David Columbus, OH   November 13th, 2007 9:04 am ET

I agree with alot of posts on here. Why would we give this guy our time of the day over a school teacher. I am getting sick of all the favoritism towards Hollywood. People in Hollywood DO NOT MATTER. I do not support Hillary or Rudy because both will continue the path that we have been on with this current a**hole in office. Rudy will be more 9/11 politics and scare tactics. Hillary will be the same, and while on the subject of Hillary, how about NO MORE BUSH-CLINTON? Let another family have it's chance.

I am growing very tired of American politics...

Hil, Rochester NY   November 13th, 2007 9:04 am ET

Hey CNN, how come you didn't ask Aaron Sorkin who he was supporting in the 2008 election? He makes pretend presidents too!

Santos/McGarry '08!!!!!

Frank, New York   November 13th, 2007 9:03 am ET

Even though I'm not a bit interested in Clinton being president, I think this rectal perforation should go back to doing what he doesn't even do best...creating fictional scenarios that the Republicans think is non-fiction, and then use this propaganda in their rhetoric to bolster support from their voter base to continue inhumane policies both here and abroad. The ostrich should represent the Republican party.

C Blackwell   November 13th, 2007 9:01 am ET

OMG are u nuts Surnow. You sound like such a hyprocrite, with the power women are given on "24" (which happen to be my favorite show, maybe I need to rethink), you have the nerve to say that Hillary could never be the president. You probably never had a strong woman challenge u. As for backing rudy, he would be like your crookish president on your show.

Tudos.

Richard, Tampa Florida   November 13th, 2007 8:58 am ET

I certainly hope and pray he is correct. Hillary will destroy this country if the voters are STUPID enough to put her in the most powerful position in the world. Wake up America, DO NOT PUT HER IN OFFICE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sabi Kanani, Dallas TX   November 13th, 2007 8:53 am ET

Personal opinion aside, Janeane Garofalo is one of the most liberal Americans that I've ever seen. She made Bill Maher look like Newt Gingrich the last time I saw her. The irony of his statement is hilarious - being that she's his president in his own show.

Not a Giuliani Fan   November 13th, 2007 8:51 am ET

"Rudy Giuliani's foreign policy experience extends to that of Hoboken, NJ."

Yeah, he had to limit his diplomatic efforts to Hoboken 'cause he alienated Newark by suing the airport for a perceived slight in an ad that mentioned NYC traffic.

Patti, Evergreen, Colorado   November 13th, 2007 8:49 am ET

The responses from everyone on this forum are far more interesting and noteworthy than Mr. Surnow's opinion.

Mike Nakagita, Green Bay, Wisconsin   November 13th, 2007 8:43 am ET

Of course all these people disparaging the guy would be saying how great he was if he had actually supported Hillary. Pathetic!

Brad, Charleston, SC   November 13th, 2007 8:35 am ET

Again, CNN, hard hitting news story!?

Lisa, Cleveland, Ohio   November 13th, 2007 8:35 am ET

Do we really care what this guy thinks? Honestly CNN. This is a story that needs to be in your top 10 stories. Do you think Joel Surnow is that important? Sorry. I'm one of the people who never got into 24 so I really don't care what he thinks.

Joe, Brooklyn NY   November 13th, 2007 8:32 am ET

What do you expect from a guy that creates a show that pushes the Bush administrations agenda on terrorism and torture. And as a native New Yorker, Giuliani is the last person who should be considered for the presidency. The guy lies about his record every chance he gets, Takes credit for things that were happening before he took office ( the drop in crime rate in NYC , the beautification of the city started by Dinkins) Why doesn't he take credit for a near rogue police force that thought they could do whatever they wanted under his administration?

Tony C.   November 13th, 2007 8:32 am ET

Mr. Surnow lives in a land of make believe. Perhaps he should stay there and keep his comments to himself!

Robb Philly, PA   November 13th, 2007 8:31 am ET

I love the left liberal MOON BATS!!! They back Clooney, Sarandon, and the likes because they agree with their political views (which by the way is socialism) and denounce CNN for putting headline up from a Hollywood person that is different. Absolutely comical! Once again, the partisan politics in this country try to censor and manipulate the press so real agendas can be ignored or mistakenly overlooked!!! Personally I COULD NOT deal with another 4 years of anyone and their Elitist attitude, be Bush or Clinton...2 of the most snobbish presidents I can remember!

C. Leigh Cassidy, Furlong, PA   November 13th, 2007 8:31 am ET

She is probably the least of the sour applies in the Democratic barrel. If she wins the Dem nomination, it will be laughable.
I'd like to see McCain, but I don't think he'll win the Republican nomination. He's the only candidate with common sense.

Christian, Tampa FL   November 13th, 2007 8:31 am ET

And it's sane to imagine Giuliani as president? Give me a break.

Jim Wolfer, Bloomsburg, PA   November 13th, 2007 8:31 am ET

Why not Hillary? She has two major things going for her. She's not an alcoholic and she didn't walk away from a reserve military obligation.

Thomas, St. Petersburg, FL   November 13th, 2007 8:31 am ET

It is astonishing that people who go through life regurgitating words written by others believe this qualifies them to encourage the masses to vote in a particular manner.

However, it is a breath of fresh air to learn that not all of the 'overpaid Hollywood brats' are leftist, blame-America-first crazies.

In addition, for the record, I agree with Mr. Surnow's sentiments: Hillary, who has never even managed a corner store, not to mention a city or a state, lacks the leadership experience to become the incumbent of the Executive Branch of our great nation.

Furthermore, I get panic attacks just THINKING of more 'Ruth Bader Ginsbergs' on the Supreme Court.

Go Rudy!

Connie Carver, Morrow, Ohio   November 13th, 2007 8:30 am ET

Anybody who watched the first season of this show will note that the makers of this show believe women are so incompetent they get lost with a GPS in their hands.

Anonymous   November 13th, 2007 8:30 am ET

Mr. Surnow ... Your opinion regarding Clinton is typical of a Republican and you are obviously not thinking about the best interests of your country. Think about what? Why don't you stick to your TV show (which is one of my favourites) and see how your actress/president performs before you assert any negative opinions about Hillary. Canadians think she'll do a better job than the President you chose to run your country this past eight years! Canadians feel sorry for Americans having to live under the Republican Party! Deborah from Canada

John, Blacksburg, Va   November 13th, 2007 8:29 am ET

Zack's right on. CNN needs to rethink its strategy about what's news and what's entertainment and put the two on separate web sites because apparently even CNN is getting as confused about it as the rest of the country. Or maybe they are part of the greater conspiracy to keep us little people in the dark so that the status quo may maintain its status quo.

Hank, Fort Myers, FL   November 13th, 2007 8:28 am ET

His comments appeared credible–until he blurted he was considering Rudy. Rudy! Rudy! There we go again–just shows that all Hollywood isn't eaten up with Democrats. It also shows–in the US even someone with only one oar in the water can achieve fame, fortune, and power. What a great land!! This mans ludicrous commentary has reinforced this military veteran's support of Hillery-change in Washington. It seems skirting the constitution, and operating above the law (as his characters seem to do–a lot) is O.K. to the man. But not to me and most Americans I believe. We will have change, the constitution and respect for laws of the land will be restored, and it will not be Rudy who does it.

SMITH, ROSWELL GA   November 13th, 2007 8:28 am ET

George W. Bush for president. 'Honest to God, just stand back and think about it," WISH WE HAD, WE WOULDN'T HAVE OVER 3000 DEAD SOLDIERS AND A COUNTRY ON THE VERGE OF BANKRUPTCY...oh we forgot...HE'S A MAN! HE'LL DO A GOOD JOB.

Blayze Kohime, Columbus Ohio   November 13th, 2007 8:28 am ET

Why should we trust a tv person for political advice more than we would trust some idiot off the street? I mean this guy has made a show where the main character torturing people is seen as completely okay. I suppose he would have to be a republican.

Howard, New York NY   November 13th, 2007 8:26 am ET

For someone who created what I think is the best show on TV... He is narrow minded and has no imagination... He can imagine the Idiot son, and support the (I walked around during 911) mayor who has bad judgement... I think he is just drumming up new story lines...

The fact that it is "nuts" is exactly why it is going to happen - that's how things work in an age where the status quo is to do what makes the least sense, in order to keep us little people in the dark.

Steve, New York   November 13th, 2007 8:20 am ET

This is a joke. This guy has done more then Bush and Rudy to keep the American people scared and reminded of “the global war on terrorism”. I don’t watch this show, I never have, and never will. Rudy cant even talk about Health Care with out saying something about 911 and how American needs to be "scared" the "bad guys are coming for us" LOL

Slow news day? This is ridiculous. I don't give a lot of weight to a Fox crony's opinion on Democrats and on Hillary Clinton specifically.

Rudy wouldn't be any better. One thing you can COUNT on is that Hillary Clinton will raise taxes and do to healthcare what the federal government currently does for public schools and what FEMA does for disaster management. What she will NOT do is introduce sound money and address the failing dollar by tackling the Federal Reserve, pull us out of Iraq before 2013, restore our civil liberties by revoking the Patriot Act, or do something "crazy" like rejuvenate the economy by abolishing the IRS. Ron Paul would do all of that, but no, not Hillary or Rudy.

It's comments like this that display the ignorance of people who have a responsibility to, at the very least, base their comments on substance and express them. As an avid fan of "24", I now question my allegiance to the show. Wake up Joel and keep your personal voting choices to yourself.

Nice to see that some people have some reality left in them. Although Ms. Clinton may be very intelligent the record of her and her husband the last time in office speaks for itself as to scandal and ineptitude. She would be as dangerous for the United States as Hitler was for Germany or Pol Pot for Cambodia albeit certainly without the violence or genocide.

Bobby G - Bethlehem, PA   November 13th, 2007 7:57 am ET

Ah, the myth of liberal Hollywood. The highest-ranking politicos from Tinseltown remain Ronald Reagan, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Fred Thompson – all Republicans.
Why is this even news? Surnow should be blogging his opinion like us, not the subject of a headline.

matt, philly, pa   November 13th, 2007 7:54 am ET

The irony here is delicious. TV personality speaks out against Clinton and the lefties are quick to state this "isn't news". Comparable story comes out where TV personality bashes a non-Dem and the lefties all nod in solemn agreement.

Hahahaha...love it.

S Weinstein, Wayland MA   November 13th, 2007 7:51 am ET

I can't imagine why anyone thinks this is newsworthy. We don't even know why he says it's "nuts" to think of Sen. Clinton as president! Perhaps it's akin to relying on the opinion of religious leaders: is '24' a cult?
If we're going to rely on the opinion of tv producers, I'd much rather hear from the creators of Sesame Street. At least they have some demonstrated interest in substance and the future of our country.

Jay, Pittsburgh, PA   November 13th, 2007 7:47 am ET

Really now? Hey Joel, why don't you work a little harder on making a decent TV show and shut up about politics!

Last three seasons of 24 have been simply awful. (the last season in particular).

Are we nuts wasting our time watching this monstrosity of a show you've created? I know we're nuts for printing the political opinions of the producer of a bad TV series that tortures people for ratings when it runs out of ideas..

ernie orlando, fl   November 13th, 2007 7:45 am ET

Well I think that Hillary needs to be the next President. At least she will try to clean up this disaster that we have now. But if America wants to elect a fake then Giuliani would be your man. After G.W.Bush who in my eyes is the wrost president EVER took our twin towers down there was the fake standing there like dah what happen? So lets face facts Hillary is going to be the next Presidnet and not only will she win honestly and not steel the election but she will be there for 2 terms. I absolutely agree that Hilliary shouldnt even be considered. She is a complete idiot who only got recognized after he husband humiliated her in front of the world. Only in America can a somebody become a presidential candidate only because she stood by her filth of a husband. And to tell you the truth the majority of the crap that we are in right now is because of her filth of a husband. The Clintons should really go crawl under a rock somewhere.

"Are we nuts thinking thinking Hilary Clinton could be president of this country?" – That is not a reason why she should not be. Everyone jumps on the band wagon that we need a change, she is the answer to the change!

Christopher, Chicago, Illinois   November 13th, 2007 7:38 am ET

Of course Rudy's his choice. Rudy's one of the sheep who seems to base part of his anti-terrorism policy on a ficticious tv show.

Frank tulsa, ok   November 13th, 2007 7:37 am ET

Did he vote for Bush/Cheney? That's the question. If he did, then he has zero credibility.

Someone give this guy a picture of RUDY IN HIS DRAG and ask him who is truly nuts.

No matter who you pick between the two, they will be someone who likes to wear women's clothing. Right Mr. 24?

bill leola pa   November 13th, 2007 7:35 am ET

people who support hillary need to wake up. her and her husband will say or do anything to get into power. how many shady legal deals have they been involved in? too many to count. if you want dishonesty and politics as usual then vote for her.

George - Boston, MA   November 13th, 2007 7:33 am ET

Has Surnow gone nuts?

Lets see, Fox network, Surnow.. endorses Rudy a short time after evangelist Pat Robertson does....That's nutty!

GENE, NEW CASTLE, PA   November 13th, 2007 7:30 am ET

THE MERE IDEA THAT THE BEST CANDIDATE DEMOCRATS CAN COME UP WITH IS A FORMER PRESIDENTS WIFE AS WELL AS A FORMER PRESIDENTS SON THE LAST TIME AROUNFD JUST GOES TO SHOW YOU HOW LITTLE REGARD POLITICIANS HAVE FOR THE COUNTRY AND ITS PEOPLE.

Steve, Allentown PA   November 13th, 2007 7:27 am ET

Hillery for president? No Way. I do not want the Clinton's anywhere near Washington. Let them play golf! The GOP has a better selection this year. Democrates are, as usual, a mess.

Charles Hux MD 2130 hwy 35 sea girt NJ   November 13th, 2007 7:26 am ET

Bob W. East Berne New York   November 13th, 2007 7:12 am ET

I love these people who can't give any reason beside that it would be "nuts" to elect Hillary. Really? How so? C'mon, spell it out.
I'm not a fan of Clinton, but I really bristle at the hysterical, groundless hatred of her. So,exactly what is it,Mr. Surnow? Did Fox Snooze cut you a big fat bonus check for parroting the fascist 'company line'?

Joe from Clearwater, KS   November 13th, 2007 7:10 am ET

Randy Plano TX   November 13th, 2007 7:05 am ET

your the nut not to see the writing on the wall. We are fed up with the Republican Party and I am part of that party. We will have to learn to deal with the truth of Hillary as President.

Paul, Irvington, NY   November 13th, 2007 6:48 am ET

I thought electing Bush the 2nd time was nuts. Can't honestly see how Clinton could possibly be worse.

John, Harrisburg, PA   November 13th, 2007 6:45 am ET

I think it's simply a case of a civilian bad mouthing the leading Democrat and using celebrity status to push their political goals. And then as if to have an afterthought they mention, oh by the way, i'm for the republican. I know what show I won't be watching this year. I'd rather watch a show that is either going to support politics openly or not at all. Then again, I am getting used to the conservatives using coersion and manipulation to convince people of untruths. I am not a liberal or a conservative, but it sickens me.

Brian, Devon PA   November 13th, 2007 6:38 am ET

Jan Pine Brook, NJ   November 13th, 2007 6:17 am ET

Typical male chauvanist crap. I am glad that I never got into the show 24. Rudy as president is what is "nuts", because Rudy is a nutcase. Rudy changes wives the way some people change underwear. It was horrible what he did to Donna Hanover, moving his mistress in while she was his wife. Rudy's own kids can't stand him, and for good reason.

CNN comeon,,,, this story is the pits,, Hillary MUST have said or done SOMTHING you could report on !!! miss Garofalo ??? NOT one person I have ever talked to thinks anything of Miss garofalo including my liberal friends. What a loser of a story here

J J, Chicago, IL   November 13th, 2007 5:24 am ET

What I find most alarming about the conversation here is the number of people who have "corrected" the story. The article never said Janeane Garofalo would play the president on the show, only that she would appear. The president being played by a woman was a seperate sentence. This highlights the problem we have in this country of not being careful to scrutinize what we read, see, or hear. A great many of the comments were spot on in recognizing that the issue here is that a television producer's opinion of the election is not news. Once we begin to discern real news from junk news, we can focus on what is really happening in our nation, and we can demand that candidates move beyond playing off the non-issues that seem to dominate political discourse and get to what really matters, i.e. the economic disparity in our society, the catostrophic national debt, and the misuse of our military capabilities. We can only do this if we are willing to read, view, and listen critically to what is being said. Today, it's about Janeane Garofalo playing the president, but what if the real president told us some foreign dictator had weapons of mass destruction, even though there was not a shred of evidence. Oh, wait...

Jimmy   November 13th, 2007 5:00 am ET

My god, most of you can't read.

CNN did not make a mistake

Read the last paragraph again carefully.

Don, Fairfax, VA   November 13th, 2007 4:39 am ET

Personally, I think it's nuts if any Democrap were elected President.

John Thomas, San Diego, California   November 13th, 2007 4:21 am ET

We immediately notice the Fox connection, and think "neocon", and dismiss this limburger clone as a total stooge and fool of the buffoons who have ruined this country under Tush. Whatever he says about Clinton is therefore by definition contaminated vomit fit only to be flushed as total rubbish.

Art , Del Mar, CA   November 13th, 2007 4:04 am ET

right...but its not nuts to imagine the warmonger, crossdresser, cousin-marrying, cheating Rudy...as our President????

Scott Alexander, Lakeland Florida   November 13th, 2007 3:59 am ET

Wow what a shocker. The creator of a right-wing TV show where anybody who isn't white is either guilty or sneaky of something believes that a Democrat shouldn't win the Presidency. So whoever wants to live in a world as gloomy and depressing as "24", go ahead and vote for the same candidate that Sunrow is rooting for.

I'm no Clinton fan myself, but Giuliani is near the worst of the bunch.

James, France   November 13th, 2007 3:23 am ET

You all who are nitpicking about checking the facts for 24 are reading the article too fast. There are two sentences "Janeane Garofalo would star in the show's" ... "the president will be played by a woman". Separate the thoughts, and it is as you all claim ...

Mossimo, Chicago, IL   November 13th, 2007 3:00 am ET

What are the odds......

"..."I made an insensitive comment when speaking with Hazel Boykin, and I have apologized to the Boykin family and publicly for my choice of words," Dartez said in a statement. "I have a strong record of fighting for issues important to the African American community; in fact, I have a 93 percent voting record with the Black Caucus."....But the "Buckwheat" remark is the latest bit of trouble for Dartez and her husband, Lenny, who is a member of the Democratic Party's State Central Committee..."

I predict...this small story about this racist democrat, a brush under the rug, and she will keep her position.

What happened to Trent Lott again?

What did he say exactly?

Apparantly, you are only allowed to be racist if you are a democrat, this is according to the MSM. Hello, Robert Byrd, Democrat, and former klansman.

Still too blind to see the TRUE overt bias of the media???

Pathetic.

Hillary does have a good chance to win.

Republicans sucks   November 13th, 2007 2:33 am ET

24 sucks anyway, and is it surprising some millionare fox producer supports a Republican?

Mossimo, Chicago, IL   November 13th, 2007 2:31 am ET

"...So we are taking advice from television and movie executives now on how we should vote; only in America..."

Yeah, where's Sean Penn, P.Diddy, and Alec Baldwin, all the actors telling us who to vote for, they are the real brains behind the operation.

"...Some nut from Fox Network doesn't like Hillary? Why is this considered to be NEWS?..."

Obviously, a blatant attempt on CNN's part to discredit a competitor who is destroying them in the ratings. Agh, and the blind lefties fall for it.

Give me 1 other single reason why CNN would run this story???? How is it at all relevant????

Doesn't it make you wonder what else you think you know that you don't actually know?

Here is a tip, read something other than CNN.

Jonathan, Florida   November 13th, 2007 2:27 am ET

First off – CNN's article never stated Garofalo would be the president; it stated that she was in the show and then 'new sentence' – that a woman would be playing the president.

And – surprise surprise – Hollywood's "opinions" are taken as valid and insightful as long as they pander to the left and bash President Bush and anything he does – but someone states something against Hillary and he is just a TV producer – what does he know? – I believes he knows more than nearly all of the actors that frequently mouth off.

And I agree – Hillary and Rudy BOTH scare me. Better choices please!

PSK, Berkeley, California   November 13th, 2007 2:20 am ET

This is from the man who created President Charles Logan.

"Honest to God, just stand back and think about it."

Antonio, Tempe AZ   November 13th, 2007 2:13 am ET

Why even have elections? We should just let Hollywood producers pick the next President of the United States, maybe in some kind of reality tv format.

Debbie, Sunnyvale, CA   November 13th, 2007 2:04 am ET

I do not care what Hollywood thinks.

However, I do care and hope that this lunatic, who cannot answer any direct questions, cannot stand on her own two feet, lives with someone that I would not let any of my children around, does not become president.

People...she's done nothing! Does anyone even care about this? She wasn't president, yet she mentions Bill's term as if she were.

Also, bullying is cruel? Oh come on. This is nothing compared to Iran, Iraq, Syria, etc. She needs to go home.

Also, I'm tired of being insulted by her notion that 'women' will vote for her just because they want a 'woman' in the office. Oh, please. I will vote for someone who will stick up for America and who will fight to keep our sovereignty.

Mark Renshaw, College Station, Texas   November 13th, 2007 2:02 am ET

I have perceived the show "24" as a not so subtle piece of "Alert Elevated, Fox News, Torture is necessary, Bush Administration" propaganda since the conception of the show. I was somewhat encouraged by a recent CNN poll that showed 69% of Americans (a majority, at least) saw waterboarding as torture but extremely troubled by the follow-up statement that only 59% were against the use of waterboarding as an interrogation technique . . . i.e. 10% of the people included in the poll agreed that TORTURE was an acceptable tactic. I find it difficult to see how the U.S.A. can be morally justified to tell the rest of the world what is right and what is wrong when we resort, and apparently proudly support, TORTURE as an acceptably humane treatment for prisoners. The show "24" has no doubt helped to spread this despiccable plague of inhumane "morality" and the recent irresponsible comments by the show's creator attcking Hillary Clinton – with no residual intelligence to support the attack ("Are we nuts thinking Hillary Clinton could be president of this country?"

"Honest to God, just stand back and think about it," he added.) – and then just as irresponsibly supporting the most unlikely of REPUBLICAN PLATFORM VALUE candidates in Rudy Giuliani. The conservative, right-wing values of the Republican party have so much to offer this country UNTIL they threw their brains out the window and plugged into stupid crap like Fox News and "24". Now they're just a bunch of Bauer-O'Reilly-Hannity-Coulter-Bush wannabes. If you sell your soul to the devil by torturing people, what is there left that is worth saving?

LD, Portland, OR   November 13th, 2007 2:01 am ET

Did you guys cut out the part that explains how this person's opinion is relevant? Does he have some heavy political education or experience? If so, could you add that? I would expect that CNN would not publish some random person's opinion if it has no meaning.

Mossimo, Chicago, IL   November 13th, 2007 1:54 am ET

Hmm, Hillary has so, so much experience. She certainly is fit to lead a country.

Hillary and her husband have such a loving relationship, really, examples for the world. She has accomplished so much, like, insulting Ghandi "...Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton apologized for joking that Mahatma Gandhi used to run a gas station in St. Louis, saying it was "a lame attempt at humor..."

Lame indeed. What's even lamer is the impotance of the MSM to call her out as the racist that she is. (We know the media wants her elected, so it's not surprising, at all) Funny how democrats can get away with so much, isn't it?

But no, there is no bias in the media, if anything, its to the right, HA!!!!

Another one of Hillary's games, having campaign workers plant questions for her at debates.

She is from Park Ridge IL, so it was a natural progression to become a senator in New York for 2 terms, which completely legitimizes her run for election. (Notice the sarcasm?)

The comments here are for the most part, hillarious, and psychotically uninformed.

Hillary for prez? This country is done for.

LH , Los Angeles CA   November 13th, 2007 1:45 am ET

The writers are on strike and Joel Surnow has a hit show that will not even open this season. Stick to your day time job Joel and stay out of politics. The CNN political ticker is getting to the bottom of the barrel by even reporting Surnows opinion. Look at some of the past crazy presidents from 24 that were endorsed by the creator of the show which is Surnow.

Sam, New York, NY   November 13th, 2007 1:40 am ET

big freaking deal. who honestly cares who supports who? how important is this 'creator of several presidents'. Probably can't find his cheeks with both hands.

Ian, New Castle, NH   November 13th, 2007 1:37 am ET

Ha...Clinton and Guiliani are both terrible for the next President of the US. She will not be repsected by the leaders of the Middle East, as they do not hold women in a high regard. At parties the guys dance with GUYS! I saw Guiliani speak and he is just as corrupt at Bush if not worse. Sept. 11 wasn't handled exclusively by Rudy and people need to remove the ignoramus signs on their foreheads to see that. The United States only REAL hope is a MAN, a MAN of COLOR, a man that CAN RESTORE OUR ALLEGIANCE IN THE WORLD. Barack Obama is the ONLY wise choice for presidency and for those who disagree, don't bother posting because it's you probably voted for Bush in the first place. He IS THE ONLY ONE THAT CAN FIX OUR REPUTATION AND SEES A TRUE FUTURE. Does anyone other than myself and a few others ACTUALLY SEE THAT GLOBAL WARMING IS REAL AND THAT IT IS A REAL ISSUE????????? We're wasting billions on nothing in Iraq when we could be preserving human kind for years to come by using, not finding, alternate energy. It's out there. BARACK 08!

Tim Whitaker New Egypt, New Jersey   November 13th, 2007 1:36 am ET

All I can say is thank God someone in hollywood has their head on straight. Sorry I don't want to be taxed out of my ears.

SF Gal   November 13th, 2007 1:35 am ET

Okay, who's nuts? CNN for thinking this is news? The wire for picking it up and printing it? Giving any clout to a TV writer? Or that a nutjob is supporting another nutjob, Giuliani? Has he read ANYTHING about the man? He left NY in practical disgrace and was loathed by New Yorkers at the conclusion of his term.

How interesting if the media could just shut up and let only the words and actions of the politicians speak for themselves – the people making up their own minds without the constant editorializing by every partisan reporter. What happened to objectivity?

Jim,Yreka,ca   November 13th, 2007 1:32 am ET

I truely don't care about the creator of 24 ,and if he doesn't like Hillary Clinton.
I believe that any show on the fox network sucks any ways.Fox news is the worst News program .

Brian, New Brunswick, New Jersey   November 13th, 2007 1:12 am ET

Why the hell are we listening to a tv show producer? Did I miss something? When did he become an expert on politics, foreign and domestic policy, etc etc? Honestly, because we all know that '24' is a completely factual show that would make Mr. Surnow a reliable person to seek an opinion of? Christ Almighty.

TrueBlueTexan Dallas, TX   November 13th, 2007 1:10 am ET

This is typical of the mindset of so many chickenhawk, republican voters out there. Those people who vote republican, and support the Iraq war, but have never had the stones to enlist and serve their country and fight in war. These are the people who voted Bush into office...twice. People with big dreams and imaginations but very little spine, who watch a lot of tv and think the real world is like what they see on "24". This detachment from reality is why tragedies like Iraq, and Afghanistan have taken place.

There is a whole segment of the American population who are completely consumed by what they see on TV. Shows like "24" romanticize war against some ruthless terrorist organization determined to destroy America, and Americans with weak minds truly are influenced by these fantasies.

Those Americans then turn around and express themselves in real life, by putting "Support Our Troops" stickers on their mini-vans, SUV's, ect. Much like their beloved president George W Bush, they are a bunch of pretend warriors...fake tough guys, college republicans who want to kill, but from a safe vantage point(5 time draft dodger Dick Vader Cheney),as in a video game, or tv show. They can kill the bad guys and look tough, while not risking personal injury.

Cowardice + all consuming imagination influenced by utter B.S. like "24" = CONSERVATIVE REPUBLICAN VOTER

Kevin, Seattle, WA   November 13th, 2007 1:07 am ET

Glen, Boston, MA   November 13th, 2007 12:37 am ET

EXTRA! EXTRA!
Staunch conservative gets willies at idea of Hillary as president!!!

How is this news? Judging by the articles on this ticker, I think CNN has an agenda to undermine Clinton to keep their ratings up and the races tighter. Either that, or there's just some knucklehead editor who hates Clinton and feels it's his/her right to taint the news with his/her opinion.

Also – READ THE ARTICLE! Janeane is not going to play the president! Geez, people. Focus a little.

Anonymous   November 13th, 2007 12:32 am ET

Given the source, this is no surprize. It would be nuts to think he's say anything different.

Bryce, McAllen, TX   November 13th, 2007 12:32 am ET

Yeah, we probably shouldn't care what this guy thinks...but since it's out there I think he is correct.

Hilary is the modern day socialist. If you think civil liberties and privacy are bad under Bush then just wait. When the government runs your health care they know everything about you. What happens when Hilary thinks that the US is overpopulated...well go through the medical files and find all the peole with non-curable diseases and deport or kill (i mean euthenize).

John Wariner, Houston, Texas   November 13th, 2007 12:31 am ET

Huh? I'm still trying to picture Rudy behind the wheel. God, is it possible that a man with half a bald head could lead with half of a brain? Then again, at least a woman would clean the House.

Ron, Racine Wisconsin   November 13th, 2007 12:29 am ET

Obviously Sarnow hasn't tuned in to watch the Democratic debates. Hillary was the most articulate person on the podium. Even though I am thinking of backing Obama, I have to give her a lot of points! Rudy? What a joke. We'll get more appointees like his buddy Kerik.

Welp I've seen my last episode of 24 that's for sure.

I am not sure what to make of his comments. I mean was it an overtly sexist Few Good Men moment or is he saying that she's personally not qualified. If the later can he elaborate?

God I hope Hillary wins, so that all of these punk men could shut the EFF up.

ONE PROUD INDEPENDENT AMERICAN

Irene, Lancaster, Tx   November 13th, 2007 12:19 am ET

Ditto. I am really not concerned on the opinion of a Hollywood writer. I think it is just men not liking the idea that a woman could do a man's job, and probably do it better. Hats off to Hillary. She is a tough one, with an extraordinary level of intelligence, and is exactly what this country needs.

Frankie, Oly, WA   November 13th, 2007 12:18 am ET

"Honest to God, just stand back and think about it," he added." Ya think? Given the imbecile we have in office and the fact that he has lowered the Presidency to a level of stupidity, Rove and the Weed have delivered Hillary. By the way, who really gives a rat's ass what this producer has to say?

Jim Chico, California   November 13th, 2007 12:18 am ET

Of course it was a slow news day at CNN. They wouldn't want to cover that the Iraq War is actually turning around. Or that less people are dieing each month. That would mean defeat for the Democratic Party.

alex, Long Beach, CA   November 13th, 2007 12:18 am ET

Could anything be more "Nuts" than electing or even supporting Rudy Giulani? The guy has shown zero capability when appointing keys figures - read, "Bernard karik" or making key decisions about keeping us safe - read, putting the command and control center for new york in an acknowledged target, the World Trade Center. And when it comes to morality, well, Rudy has very low marks and lower class, informing his wife he was divorcing her through the media. Surnow drinks the Koolaid. What a nut.

Matt, Canoga Park CA   November 13th, 2007 12:15 am ET

What's with all the snow and fluff any day Hillary screws up or put's her foot in her mouth CNN?

Trying to divert America from the truth about her?

Today she has her so called husband attack the other canidates and she one day after saying the other canidates should focus on the Republicans goes after a Democratic canidate. Clinton Hipocracy in full effect.

You have already moved onto Obama as a choice you might as well but the dog out of her misery.

Farrah, spokane, WA   November 13th, 2007 12:14 am ET

hillary is just as insane and corrupt as any male candidate...she's perfect for the job.

Beto, Seattle   November 13th, 2007 12:13 am ET

Weird! I don't know who Joel Surnow is, nor have I ever watched his TV show. I agree with just about all these other comments, that just because he does a political themed TV show doesn't give his opinion about who should be the President of the United States any weight. For that matter just because Ms Clinton was the wife of a President doesn't mean she has any experience in actually running the country. At this point, being the wife of an ex-President is the only thing she really has going for her because when you "think about it" she doesn't have much to offer except splitting her own political party up. Forget Iraq, the Democratic Party is having their own civil war.

Eric, Washington DC   November 13th, 2007 12:10 am ET

Who's Joel Surnow?
I thought Rumsfeld was actually the executive producer.
With Karl Rove as chief writer

Brian, Los Angeles, CA   November 13th, 2007 12:06 am ET

"Honest to God, just stand back and think about it?" Okay, Mr. Surnow. While I do that, you go ahead and stand back and think about the last 7 years. I'll take the possibility of something new and the small glimmer of hope that may bring, than the destructive, fear-mongering past we've all had to endure.

David, Los Angeles, California   November 13th, 2007 12:06 am ET

Joel -

Do you really want to back Rudy? A guy who couldn't make a single meeting for the Iraq Study Council, because he had an opportunity to make thousands giving a speech, and was ejected from the group, yet says he's the one to handle the mess in Iraq. Rudy has done nothing but evoke 9/11 at every single opportunity simply to stoke the fears of the American people and "remind" everyone, over and over, that he had the courage to appear on TV during the aftermath. Not even the firefighters and policemen of New York can stomach the guy. He's a fraud Joel – you write a hit show so get your facts straight – read – acquire actual knowledge.

Apple, Washington DC   November 13th, 2007 12:05 am ET

Reading is fundamental people. The article did NOT say Garofalo would be playing the President. It said she was joining the cast. The next and separate sentence said the president would be played by a woman.

This is why American is in trouble. Reading and seeing something and assuming vs. comprehending the facts.

Ann ME   November 13th, 2007 12:03 am ET

CNN, first you say that you might not keep comment due to high response, however, my comment was mid-way through this list and you removed it. There are certainly many comments posted after mine was submitted. No swearing, polite language, oh, I get it, no Republicans allowed?

Kristy Sanborn   November 12th, 2007 11:59 pm ET

Maybe this producer is thinking ahead, if Clinton is elected, think of the title of a movie, 'The Day America went down'

Steve, San Ramon, CA   November 12th, 2007 11:58 pm ET

Tom Daniels, New Rochelle, NY   November 12th, 2007 11:57 pm ET

The only fait accompli is that Bush 43 has been the worst president in over 50 years. We are no where near protected from the next terrorist strike, still dependent on arab oil, and divided as a country as never before. Go Hilary!

I met Rudy several days ago.....and beleive Hilliary can be president just mlike Merkel in germany and several other countries.

Rudy ain't going to be the republican nominee...are you kiddin..he is a liberal in some matters...choke ...choke...so therefor he is NOT in the pic. Whats your prob with women?

Scott, Arcadia, CA   November 12th, 2007 11:55 pm ET

What the hell is everyone talking about? The article doesn't even say that Garafolo will be president. It says she's in the show, and it says a woman, not Garafolo, will play the president. Read straight, people.

daniel, NY NY   November 12th, 2007 11:50 pm ET

Joel Surnow is the one who is nuts!! I am glad that I have never watched the mind numbing 24 show.

Yes, Hillary can and will be a great president....Get on board or shut up and get off the bus, Joel!

norman, dallas, tx   November 12th, 2007 11:45 pm ET

He and Senator Craig can "get behind Rudy " all they want, but who do you think he will support for President?

Ryan, Columbus, OH   November 12th, 2007 11:44 pm ET

Methinks someone at CNN has an agenda. This bit of 'news' was posted around 8PM EST initially. At 11:38, I noticed it wasn't on the Political Ticker at all. Now it's on the top of the ticker, and the catchy '24' headline in the CNN headlines section on the home page.

So, which is it CNN? Playing favorites in the political arena by posting a story slamming Hillary or going for the cheap sensationalist headline to get people to clicky your link?

Sad.

This guy's got class. More people should be listening to this character. We listen to all kinds of people when we make up our minds about important issues. After all, if America gets over 80% of its "news" from TV, and makes decisions based on opinions expressed there, then we ought to listen to what's being said here. Remember,
"There's nothing great,
About Hillary in '08"

this guy is an idiot!

Dona, NY, NY   November 12th, 2007 11:28 pm ET

To all the people that think CNN got their facts wrong about who is playing the President on 24, let's be clear...they stated that Janeane would be on the show and then in the following sentence stated that the president would be played by a woman...they never said who.

As for this producer, his show is on FOX, even if he wanted to vote Dem or have an opinion other than Rep., he couldn't, Rupert would have his head.

Marc F. Champaign, IL   November 12th, 2007 11:25 pm ET

I have two comments. Surnow's utterance is not important. Second, CNN did not state that Garofalo would play the president on that stupid show "24." The short article read that Garofalo would star in the show, and that the show's president would be a woman. So, those calling on CNN to do a fact check, should in turn perform a reading comprehension test.

Yet he might support Ghouliani.

How can you take him seriously.

John C. (Buddy) Schow-Chicago, Il   November 12th, 2007 11:23 pm ET

I'm just curious. If Jerry Surnow (whoever that is) thinks that the possibility of Hillary Clinton becoming President is nuts, what must he think of the current Boob that resides in the White House?! Nobody could ever embarass the U.S. or cause the divide that we currently have in this country like this pathetic excuse for a leader has done. He is living proof of two things. (1) Republicans will vote for anyone that runs as a Republican regardless of the candidate's failures and lack of accomplishment or intelligence. (2) The press is not liberal! If the press was liberal, Bush 2 would never have been on the ballot back in 2000 because he would have been exposed. So relax Jerry Surnow (whoever you are) NOBODY will ever be as big a joke as W.

Ann ME   November 12th, 2007 11:20 pm ET

Obviously, a lot of you people care what this producer thinks or you wouldn't have taken the time to respond. Quite frankly, I cannot imagine Hillary Clinton as president of anything other than her ego trip.

Hermine, San Diego, Ca   November 12th, 2007 11:17 pm ET

how low can you go CNN, is this a major US news channel or are you sliding down the hill of Holywood gossip, come on dont go same route as fox and be just a propaganda machine for the right, stand your ground and be a respectfull news source not a propaganda puppet, we have enough of these.......

Yvon Gaillard São Paulo Brazil   November 12th, 2007 11:15 pm ET

If that woman becomes president of the United States of America, this great country will go down the drain and become a third world nation. She is an individual full of her self and deeply frustrated with the treason of her husband at the withe house.

Wonder how much he got paid by Mr. Murdock??

CJ, Bend, Oregon   November 12th, 2007 11:09 pm ET

Funny, I'll bet Surnow couldn't have foreseen that the next season of "24" would be canceled, either.

john williams san diego, ca.   November 12th, 2007 11:08 pm ET

joel surnow?? he's just a Hollywood T.V. producer who thinks he is smart as Sean Penn or Tim Robbins or David Letterman or Steven Spielburg or Danny Glover or GOD forgive ROSIE. He needs to have a talk down session with Bubba before he can talk about her royal highness..

Anonymous   November 12th, 2007 11:07 pm ET

Note to CNN: If the best somebody can offer by way of explanation for their political viewpoint is "Honest to God, just stand back and thing about it," they don't merit coverage on CNN. Is this not obvious? I've got an suggestion: Next time, try to be part of the solution instead of part of the problem.

John C. (Buddy) Schow   November 12th, 2007 11:03 pm ET

If Jerry Surnow thinks having Hillary Clinton as President is nuts, what must he think of the current moron that we have in the White House? Hey Jerry, NOBODY could be the absolute failure that our current Boob has proven to be. I'm speaking of George W. just in case you have been sleeping for the past seven years

Kyu Reisch, Radcliff, Kentucky   November 12th, 2007 11:01 pm ET

Joel Sumow, Honest God, you are stinky jerk, I believe your value is same as Giuliani and Fox News. Joel, you are nuts, that's why you think Rudy over Hillary. I didn't know 24 is on Fox TV, I have never seen it. Eric, Los Angeles, Republican and Fox News are twin, both are very low and worthless for us.

johnnyb, Houston, TX   November 12th, 2007 11:00 pm ET

I think Joel Surnow is insane. But I also think he's right about Hillary. Say what you will about the graphic nature of '24', the show's visceral portrayal of starkly human political figures and the impossible decisions they're often forced to make—and with unpredictable consequences—is one of the most sophisticated treatments of a range of issues conservatives are otherwise far too willing to dismiss as black and white. As conservative as he is, I think he's rare in his depth of perception.

*Can* we imagine Hillary taking responsibility for decisions on torture, hostage situations, and threats to the lives of tens of thousands of people? Is she more David Palmer, or is she more Charles Logan?

It's a question definitely worth considering. I'm fully confident that the question will be more thoroughly explored in season 7.

bing, traverse city mi   November 12th, 2007 10:58 pm ET

What can you expect from a shill for the Republican Party. Hummm...is'nt 24 the favorite show of Dick "Darth Vader" Cheany"?

Mike, San Diego, CA   November 12th, 2007 10:52 pm ET

"The Washington Times!!" LOL! Weekly World News is more objective. Hey Joel, the paper that quoted you was founded by Reverend Moon! Honest to God, just stand back and think about it! Or maybe you should be thinking about making this upcoming season of 24 better than last season. Shouldn't be too hard...wait, you're bringing Tony back to life and making him the bad guy? Yikes! Thank goodness for the writers' strike.

Posted By Terri Tacoma, Wa : November 12, 2007 8:10 pm

Well congrats numb nuts. You have bought into the "dynasty" crap being sold by the MSM.

There is only one dynasty involved here fool – the Bush clan. Bill Clinton being elected twice does a not dynasty make. That is called democracy. And should Hillary be the nominee this time, there still is not a friggin’ dynasty – she is not a Clinton. Come on! W is his daddy’s son. Hillary is Bill’s wife. One is a blood line, one is not. Go take your dynasty crap and shove it deep up the crevasse where your talking points come from.

2) CNN, is it time to issue a correction regarding Janeane Garofalo in the new season of 24?

aj huntington, ny   November 12th, 2007 10:50 pm ET

I can't imagine her Thighness in power either. Hillary 's idea for buying votes - oops I mean her proposal to the American people to give baby bonds to newborns will only encourage those on welfare who already are having babies in order to get more money from the government.

an insider DC   November 12th, 2007 10:50 pm ET

She did so much during the clinton administration, what position did she hold? also I don't see her in any of the important photos from that administration. So what has she done? what is her experience?

Glenn Damato, Marina del Rey, CA   November 12th, 2007 10:39 pm ET

Yes, Hilary as president is scary – but not for the usual reasons given, such as inexperience. She and her people can do a tremendous amount of damage to the US because they are socialists. Right now, the EU is slowly being forced to admit that socialism does not work. Sadly, Hilary may be elected merely by fooling enough people into thinking they can get "free" medical care by voting for her. It's a scam, of course. As Benjamin Franklin said, "When the people find out they can vote themselves money, it will mean the end of the Republic."

Those who believe Hilary "panders to the far left" (Victor et al) are ill-informed. Hilary is, apart from social issues, very status-quo. Her health care plan for example, relies primarily on private insurance. She is pro-corporate, and is unlikely to affect any major change in government (left, right, or otherwise). Hilary is centrist, not leftist.

Asking someone who works for Fox what he thinks? Did you really expect anything different? Why wouldn't he go for Rudy since the owner of Fox is pushing Rudy on every show they have to the exclusion of other republican candidates. Can we please have some "news" rather than asking and getting the obvious answers, seeing flags falling, and constant criticism of Democrats, especially Hillary Clinton. Where's all the Rudy-Kerik news and that would make someone wonder as to Rudy's abilities to make well informed presidential decisions?

Really? Wow. I'm going downtown to change my political affiliation right now just so I can vote in line with the producer of a fictitious show on Fox that is all about terrorism and torture. Because after 9/11, I had an epiphany: there's not enough terrorism in the United States. All we need now is to glorify terrorism, torture and violence and the world will be a MUCH better place!!! Long live Rudy Giuliani b/c we need another fascist President before nutso Hillary gets elected and *gasp* gives us all free health care! Ohhhh noooo!

Zodwa, NY, NY   November 12th, 2007 9:50 pm ET

I don't care what this guy does for a living. He's made it very clear that he doesn't think that Hillary should be president. He doesn't say why. Even the republicans (Bush 43 & Gingrich) said Hillary would be nominated. In the absence of a major mistake, she will very likely beat giuliani, the likely repub nominee, to become the next president. Reasons?

Giuliani is a person of questionable personal character, conduct unbecoming to be the next president as highest office of america, because:

1. He is a father whose own children would boycott his inauguration.
2. He is a husband whose first wife was his cousin and whose current wife can't remember how many times she married.
3. He was a cross-dresser.
4. Gay-tolerant and prochoice, Giuliani contradicts, and even demeans, the "values" that have defined conservative America for a generation.
5. He is a Yankee fan who has been rooting for the Red Sox

The truth is Giuliani seems less impressive in person than he does in the polls. This points that TO KNOW GIULINI WELL IS TO HATE HIM, and there are lots of people outside new york city yet to know him well. His speeches are poorly prepared and convoluted, and he is given to silly gimmicks, such as stopping in mid-speech to the NRA to take calls from his wife on his cell-phone, and that was the second time his wife called him during his speech.

In addition, GIULIANI IS A MASTER OF WAFFLING, saying anything to get the nomination, Pinocchio wannabe.

Pat Robertson recent endorsement of Rudy Giuliani have focused on how it can be that Giuliani would associate himself with a man who had once agreed that it was America’s fault that we were attacked on 9/11. It is ironic because Robertson is endorsing a cross dressing, pro gay marriage, pro choice, thrice married, avowed social liberal… within seven years of agreeing that abortionists, gays, the ACLU, and liberalism in general were responsible for the 9/11 attacks. According to the Pat Robertson of a few years ago, Giuliani is the living embodiment of several of the reasons God allowed us to be hit!

1) He waffles on his efforts and risks during 9/11.
He waffles on an earlier position that he spent as much time as the rescuers (policemen and foremen) during 9/11 and he was subject to the same health risks.

2) He waffles on guns.
Rudy Giuliani who called the National Rifle Association (NRA) “extremists” presented his views on guns and Second Amendment Rights this week to none other than that same “extremist” group, the NRA. A week later, Guiliani sang a different tune–sort of–as he tried to woo the votes of gun owners and gun rights activitsts.

3) He waffles on abortion.
Giuliani waffled on whether he thought it would be acceptable for the Supreme Court to overturn Roe. Giuliani said it would OK if they did and OK if they didn’t, while reasserting his contention that abortion rights should be decided on a state by state basis. Rudy Giuliani, campaigning in South Carolina, firmly stated that as president he would not seek to make abortion illegal. That seems at odds with his earlier promises, also made while campaigning in South Carolina, to appoint “strict constructionist” Justices to the Supreme Court.
Giuliani seems to enjoy playing guessing games with the public. Does anyone really find this amusing? Does anyone really want this in a President?

4) He waffles on gay rights.
Giuliani told a New York newspaper that he opposes the bill passed in New Hampshire legalizing same-sex civil unions, a surprising reversal of his past statements. In 2004, the twice-divorced ex-New York mayor, who lived with a gay couple during one of his marital crises, told TV pundit Bill O'Reilly he thought that was just fine. "I'm in favor of . . . civil unions," the Sun quoted him as saying. "A civil partnership, domestic partnership, civil union, whatever you want to call it, and that takes care of the imbalance, the discrimination, which we shouldn't have."

P. King   November 12th, 2007 8:58 pm ET

umm, so this right wing nutjob who's a big fan of torture doesn't want Clinton to be president.

And CNN considers this news.

Why am I not surprised at either of those?

Olivia   November 12th, 2007 8:58 pm ET

Joel Surnow Stay living in TV land. No one cares what he thinks.

DefendTheConstitution   November 12th, 2007 8:58 pm ET

Choosing between Rudy Mussolini and Billary is like choosing between a giant turd sandwich and a douche bag.

Seriously people, these two are corrupt to the core. Why would you want criminals like these running the country?

Drew; Warner Robins, GA   November 12th, 2007 8:57 pm ET

Janeane Garofalo's character will be an fbi agent. Cherry Jones is set to play the female president role.

LRS LA,CA   November 12th, 2007 8:54 pm ET

I think he was being to kind ...."Nuts" is not the term I would use.Hillary Clinton as Pres....GGGEEEEZZZZ What are people thinking about.

John from America   November 12th, 2007 8:54 pm ET

And who is Joel Surnow a fox right wing idiot that thinks he can comment on a person being president? Joel, get a life and get out of politics.

Anonymous   November 12th, 2007 8:53 pm ET

your totally right, people need to remember were she came from and all the things she could of been mixed up in!!!!!!!!!

Baker, Colorado   November 12th, 2007 8:53 pm ET

And for the record, Janeane Garofalo is NOT the next President on the new season of 24, it is Cherry Jones.

Maybe CNN should look at their own archives to double check that one!

http://www.cnn.com/2007/SHOWBIZ/TV/07/23/tv.fox.24.ap/index.html

Dan (Baltimore, MD)   November 12th, 2007 8:52 pm ET

Joel Surnow is a very bright individual. His show is one of the best on television and he's got a very sharp political mind.

Jenna, New York, NY   November 12th, 2007 8:52 pm ET

Cherry Jones is playing the president on the next season of 24. Janeane Garofalo is playing a government investigator.

Victor, Lake Mary, Florida   November 12th, 2007 8:51 pm ET

I'm not saying it can't happen, but I'm frightened of what may come of our country if it does. Clinton panders to the far-left. It would be the opposite equivalent of Dick Cheney being President. Scary!!

R.L. California   November 12th, 2007 8:51 pm ET

Yeah, get behind Rudy. He acts like a mobster, just like his father. Ask Kerik how Rudy operated as mayor. In his book he talks about how he got his police job... it was just like a mob family initiation he said with all the deputies lining up to kiss him on the cheek. We don't need that in the White House, that is for sure.

chris, los angeles, ca   November 12th, 2007 8:50 pm ET

Since when did the "creator of 24" become a political expert? Probably best if he stuck to entertainment.

K, New Jersey   November 12th, 2007 8:50 pm ET

Why is his political choice news?

Plus he is Republican, so it is doubtful he would be behind any Democratic candidate.

Karen, NYC   November 12th, 2007 8:49 pm ET

Oh dear....

Looks like Billary isn't getting the support she originally thought she would.... well... except for those plants and bundle donators.

Joseph, Charlotte NC   November 12th, 2007 8:49 pm ET

The irony of him laughing at the chance of Clinton becoming pres, and then getting behind Rudy is almost menacingly hilarious. Theyre both tyrants, open your eyes people.

Jackson, Morongo Valley, CA   November 12th, 2007 8:48 pm ET

Being a "sexist" is not a good thing when you depend on the public for support of your work!!

Raphael, Los Angeles, CA   November 12th, 2007 8:44 pm ET

...and we care what Surnow thinks because? Guess with all the writers walking down the street on strike, this guy thinks he's a political authority. Stick to producing bad tv Joel.

Beth, St Paul, MN   November 12th, 2007 8:44 pm ET

what does the creator of 24 know about real world presidency and the general American voting public. Wasn't 24 cancelled for the next season?

J.D., Ocala, Florida   November 12th, 2007 8:44 pm ET

I never "stood back and thought about it", but you know something? He's right. When you think of a president, you think of Harrison Ford from "Air Force One", Bill Pullman from "Independence Day", or even better, David Palmer from "24". You just don't think of Hillary Clinton. We shouldn't elect her just because she's a woman.

All the "24" haters will have a heyday with this bit of news. Nevertheless, it won't stop "24" from being one of the highest rated dramas on television.

Anonymous   November 12th, 2007 8:43 pm ET

who cares what this guy thinks

Nicky, Burbank, CA   November 12th, 2007 8:42 pm ET

Someone needs to do some fact checking. Janeane Garofalo was cast in the latest season of 24, but not as the new President.

Ryan, Columbus, OH   November 12th, 2007 8:40 pm ET

Seriously? How is this worthy of being cosidered political news? Hey, I just talked to my neighbor... he created something, I assume. He said Clinton is a big dummy. Quick, run with it.

Who cares if the creator of 24 doesn't like Hillary? He writes FICTION! Bad fiction at that.

CR Roseville, CA   November 12th, 2007 8:40 pm ET

Why on earth would this make your headline? Surnow is nuts to get behind Rudy.

B. S. Finan, Columbus, Ohio   November 12th, 2007 8:39 pm ET

Sir Now, U R NUTS if you think anyone under 70 will EVER watch "24" again.

Take some time and read her book, we would never vote for a gigolo. Let's see Catholic, married + mistress then divorced then married + mistress then divorced, time off to live with a couple gay guys then married another mistress, then divorced...pleezzzze, yaun, ugh sorry he is not United States Presidential material because he reached to a NEW LOWER LEVEL.

Karen,ny   November 12th, 2007 8:39 pm ET

That '24' man is very rude to say that. I am not voting for her, but I wouldn't hurt her feelings in front of everyone like that. Personally, after the first season of '24' I couldn't take it anymore. It was "nuts" to have to wait every week to find out what happened. I bet he will lose some viewers over that comment.

Brad, the great state of Texas   November 12th, 2007 8:36 pm ET

Exactly what I was thinking! Hillary has no substance–everything she says and does is a political calculation. Why else did she stay with Slick Willie? I bet money Bill can't touch her with a ten foot pole. If she had left him, I would respect her more as a person with conviction!

demwit   November 12th, 2007 8:35 pm ET

Clinton's negative ratings with registered voters guarantee's yet another republican president. Oh well, good try huh, again..

Tom from New York   November 12th, 2007 8:35 pm ET

This article is incorrect. Cherry Jones, not Janeane Garofalo, has been tapped to play the President in the upcoming season of 24.

Garofolo will portray Janis Gold.

Matt, New York, NY   November 12th, 2007 8:34 pm ET

"Earlier this year, Surnow announced that actress and outspoken liberal Janeane Garofalo would star as the show's next President of the United States."

Err... no. Cherry Jones is playing the president. Janeane Garofalo is playing an FBI agent.

La Chatte, Portland, OR   November 12th, 2007 8:34 pm ET

Spoken like a man whose series crashed and burned last season! How's the new one comin', what with the strike and your star working around his jail time? Cheers!

In spite of how bad a great series became last season, I was willing to give it another chance. Nah... not any more. Mr. Surnow, you vote on your ballot, I'll vote at the box office.

Stephanie   November 12th, 2007 8:33 pm ET

Honestly, why do you even bother to publish this stuff? Who cares what a TV producer thinks about Hillary's campaign? The man is not a political pundit, and also clearly not very articulate. Give your readers a break. "The executive producer of '24' is not a Clinton supporter." WOW! YOU'RE KIDDING!? That is Huge. *sigh*

Anonymous   November 12th, 2007 8:33 pm ET

He works for Fox. Ofcourse he thinks that way. It will be very dangerous if people start following the advice of drama producer who works for Fox

Daniel Barnett, New City, NY   November 12th, 2007 8:32 pm ET

Who seriously cares what this guy thinks! This guy uses torture and terrible stereotypes on his show, then makes everything his characters do acceptable because the ends justify the means. That attitude is rarely acceptable and will be the end to our moral values. Please think before you give airtime to anyone associated with Fox.

Anonymous   November 12th, 2007 8:32 pm ET

Cherry Jones is starring as the new president in 24. Janeane Garofalo is in it but as an FBI agent.

Diana Powe, Beaverton OR   November 12th, 2007 8:32 pm ET

Why exactly should anyone care what the right-winger executive producer of 24 thinks about Senator Clinton? I suppose the CNN Political Ticker answer is that he "has created several presidents" for his television show. Flash for the Ticker...24 is fantasy. It's no more the real world than a Tom Clancy novel.

Madapi, Smyrna, GA   November 12th, 2007 8:32 pm ET

Janeane Garofalo is not scheduled to play the President. Cherry Jones will portray the President and Janeane will be a regular cast member on the next season. Her character is a government agent who will be investigating Jack Bauer and his CTU co-workers.

Mark Columbus, Ohio   November 12th, 2007 8:30 pm ET

I agree with Surnow...I'll get behind whoever is running against Hillary. You do have to step back and think about it...Hillary as Prez.??????

Phil Chicago, Ill   November 12th, 2007 8:30 pm ET

CNN, I believe the headline contains a few too many words. Removing "as Prsident" gives us the correct Headline.

Thanks for your attention to this matter.

Steve Burns, Iowa City, IA   November 12th, 2007 8:30 pm ET

I've always thought "24" to be a major contributor to unrealistic fears in the American psyche about terrorism. So it's not surprising to see Surnow apparently has no intellectual distance from the morbid fantasy of his show. And thus sadly logical that Surnow would support Rudi,...he being one of the candidates "most likely to succeed" in perpetuating terrorism fear-mongering (while justifying torture). Seems neither man is familiar with the term "self-fulfilling prophecy."

Shannon, Tulsa, OK   November 12th, 2007 8:30 pm ET

Surnow did not announce that Garofalo would be the next president on 24. She will be on the show, but as an FBI agent. Another actress, Cherry Jones, will be POTUS on the show.

Corey, Tuscaloosa, AL   November 12th, 2007 8:29 pm ET

Correction:

The actress Cherry Jones was set to portray the president, not Janeane Garofalo. I believe Garofalo was going to play a Secret Service agent or some other such G-woman.

Aaron, Austin, TX   November 12th, 2007 8:28 pm ET

Cherry Jones, not Janeane Garofalo, will play the next president on 24. Garofalo will play an FBI agent.

Mike, Danbury, CT   November 12th, 2007 8:27 pm ET

Jack Bauer is a Republican; he has to be. This doesn't really surprise me.

Bill W, Los Angeles, California   November 12th, 2007 8:26 pm ET

"24" is a very enjoyable cartoon...and i thank mr. surnow for creating a fun-to-watch tv show...but politically he's neanderthal who apparently can't distinguish entertainment from reality (WMD, Saddam links to Al Qaeda, greeted as liberators, waterboarding isn't torture...the whole neocon / Washington Times ass-hat ideology)...

write that great movie you've been talking about, joel, y'know the one where the really committed rightwing Hollywood show creator actually enlists in the military and puts his own ass on the line to fight Islamofascism...y'know, fiction!

William Harrison South Carolina   November 12th, 2007 8:26 pm ET

Orlando   November 12th, 2007 8:22 pm ET

I could not agree more!!

R. Knapp Memphis, TN   November 12th, 2007 8:22 pm ET

Some nut from Fox Network doesn't like Hillary? Why is this considered to be NEWS?

Jason, Cincinnati   November 12th, 2007 8:21 pm ET

And Surnow's opinion matters because? As a Fox employee his support for one of the republican drones was, well, a fait accompli.

Ken, Tucson, AZ   November 12th, 2007 8:21 pm ET

Rudy Giuliani over Hillary? Is this guy nuts?

A. Thomas, ny, ny   November 12th, 2007 8:20 pm ET

The dems would NOT care what Sunow, a die-hard republican, thinks should be the next president.

Sunow is a nut himself. Surnow has described himself as a supporter of the Republican Party, donating money to the campaign of Rick Santorum and expressing particular admiration for former President Ronald Reagan. He is also a close friend of conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh. However, Surnow is a self-described "isolationist" and has stated that he has "no faith in nation building".

Hillary is a leader in nation building, and she does not need Surnow's support. In fact, Hillary beats all candidates, dems and republicans, in getting the most support of women and black voters.

As a typical republican, Surnow is in denial and that is bad to his mental health.

Aaron Kalbermatten, Hoboken, NJ   November 12th, 2007 8:19 pm ET

It is nuts, although I don't know that Giuliani is much better. I'm still hoping to see Ron Paul in the oval office in 2009.

Jimenez - San Antonio Texas   November 12th, 2007 8:19 pm ET

Joel Surnow stay living in TV land. Clinton will win. Clinton 08!

J.J. (Chicago, IL)   November 12th, 2007 8:19 pm ET

Do your research, y'all! Cherry Jones is playing the president this upcoming season, and Garofalo plays a federal agent.

Michael, Peachtree City, Ga   November 12th, 2007 8:18 pm ET

That's not really a shock coming from the creator of 24, a show that glorifies torture. If his views are anything like those presented on the show, he's as conservative as they come.

Carol Lipski SC   November 12th, 2007 8:18 pm ET

We have someone from fox opinionated network telling us who should or should not be president?????
Here is a network who even says it is fine to slant the news advising the USA who should be president!!!
If this so called network cannot present the NEWS IN TRUTH, WITH FACTS AND NOT OPINIONS IT IS NO BETTER THAN ANY THIRD WORLD COUNTRY WHERE THE NEWS IS PUT OUT BY THE STATE FOR THE PURPOSE OF SPREADING MANURE OVER THE COUNTRY TRYING TO JUSTIFY LIES.

Peter, North Mankato, MN   November 12th, 2007 8:18 pm ET

Actually Cherry Jones is playing the president next season. Janeane Garofalo is on the show, but in another role...

David, Newark, NJ   November 12th, 2007 8:18 pm ET

A producer who creates fictional characters for the Fox network is against Hillary? A person who creates a TV show where the characters stop the terrorists each season before they blow up a U.S. city is coming out in support of Rudy? Is this news?

Debbie, VA   November 12th, 2007 8:17 pm ET

If Bill holds her hand and helps her lie and cheat she might get through a day in the oval office. We don't need liars or cheater's.

Robert, Shelton, CT   November 12th, 2007 8:15 pm ET

So we are taking advice from television and movie executives now on how we should vote; only in America :(

Me - in San Antonio Texas   November 12th, 2007 8:13 pm ET

I think Joel Surnow should stay living in TV land. By the way Sir I never have liked 24. It's sleeper.

Chuck, Cape Girardeau, MO   November 12th, 2007 8:13 pm ET

Janeane will be playing an FBI agent, not the president.

Terri Tacoma, Wa   November 12th, 2007 8:10 pm ET

LOL... I think the man has a point!

Dodging, waffling, boys-against-girls, American Flag dumping Hillary ISN'T what we need.

Can't we just be honest for a moment??

I vote ENOUGH of Clinton-Bush. Time for someone new.

Jim in Orlando, FL   November 12th, 2007 8:10 pm ET

I am no fan of Hillary, but why is this newsworthy? Is it a feeble attempt to provide support for the next worthless "ticker" story, just below this one, where Bill says that the "boys are getting tough on Hillary"? Thre's some genuine criticism of Hillary out there from folks that have a "dog in the hunt". How about keeping your eye on that prize, CNN? Or maybe we can find out what Chuck Norris thinks, as he still kicks Jack Bauer's butt any day.

jms, Tn   November 12th, 2007 8:10 pm ET

It doesn't take much knowledge to understand that Fox is the right of the republican party. Any comment coming from any of their staff is propaganda.

Sushen Thiyagarajan, Potomac, maryland   November 12th, 2007 8:09 pm ET

A little too much said Joel.

Michael, Newberg Oregon   November 12th, 2007 8:08 pm ET

Cnn is wrong on this article. Cherry Jones will play the President in Season 7. Janeane Garofalo will play some kind of computer tech person.

I like "24" – but Surnow is being a bit of a retard here.

Only Pragmatic, Scottsdale, AZ   November 12th, 2007 8:07 pm ET

Lemme see if I have this straight. Surnow thinks we're nuts if we think Hillary is a viable prez, yet he's supporting Rudy? Um, who's nuts now? Let us not forget that it was Rudy who stood behind the criminal Kerik and it was Rudy who put the terrorist watch center in a known terrorist target – the WTC. Mr. Surnow may have a wonderful writer's imagination, but he certainly would benefit from working a little harder at obtaining a grasp on reality.

jms, Tn   November 12th, 2007 8:07 pm ET

Just look who he represents. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to understand that Fox is the right hand of the republican party. Da!

Richard, Ewing, NJ   November 12th, 2007 8:06 pm ET

Joel Surnow and a good chuck of Republicans are nuts. By the way, I am a Republican and I support John McCain. I agree with Joel Surnow's implication that Hillary Clinton is not exactly the most experience candidate. She is simply a two term senator with no accomplishment. The only real accomplishment she has is getting a vide game "Grand Theft Auto" changes its rating. Really, that is. Joe Biden and Bill Richardson are much more experience. Joe serving his fifth term in the Senate. He has been the Chairman of three committees: Judicial, Foreign Relation and International Narcotics Control. He is famous for the Biden Crime Bill. Richardson has been various different jobs from 14 years in congress to ambassador to United Nation to Secretary of Energy to governor of New Mexico. It is nuts for Democrats to rally around Hillary Clinton. She is in the Senate for second terms, and she has not accomplished a single important bill. I bet none of her supporter cannot even name any of her accomplish, and they are voting for her become the slogan: "Hillary for President!" I keep hear people say she is experienced. No she is not!

However, it is nut for Joel to imply Rudy Giuliani is more qualified than Hillary Clinton. Yes, Rudy was impressive as mayor, but only as a mayor. He has no national or foreign policy experience. Does anyone seriously think he could ran for presidency had 9/11 never happened? No way. His entire presidential race is based on 9/11, but having your city attacked is not a qualification for being President.

Nikolai, Pittsburgh PA   November 12th, 2007 8:06 pm ET

Janeane Garofalo isn't scheduled to play the President. Check your facts, CNN.

Tad, Los Angeles, CA   November 12th, 2007 8:03 pm ET

Cherry Jones has been cast as the next president. Garofalo has been cast as an agent. Also, did i miss something here – why specifically is it nuts?

Kristen McCabe, West Norriton PA   November 12th, 2007 8:03 pm ET

Ok – I'm sorry – and this is news because??? Kristen McCabe, an accountant from PA thinks that Rudy Giuliani's foreign policy experience extends to that of Hoboken, NJ. He could not pick the police commisioner for a city – how can we think he will pick the right people for his cabinet. I am supporting Barack and Biden currently..I have not made my choice as of yet...but I could really care less what the creator of a worsening sitcom has to say. Please CNN who cares?? It is so shocking to me that Giuliani is a serious candidate for President – THAT is what is shocking... ENOUGH OF THE 9/11 politics already – ENOUGH!!! Let's move on already.

Jason, Mt. Laurel NJ   November 12th, 2007 8:02 pm ET

Get your facts straight. Garofalo is not the president, but she will be in the show.

J. McKinney SW MO   November 12th, 2007 8:01 pm ET

I'm sure we are all holding our breath to hear what this guy predicts next. He sounds like a real genius.
Hillary '08!!!

christian, selden, ny   November 12th, 2007 8:01 pm ET

i would love to talk to someone who even thinks this man opinion is relevant in any way! the man makes a show about a new terrorist attack in the united states every year....on fox....not a very repudable source of politics! he says "Honest to God, just stand back and think about it," ok thought about it, now what? the sad thing though is we live in a country where people will actually take this guys opinion as a legitimate claim! besides i thought all media was controlled by liberals!? lol ridiculous

Aaron, Savannah, GA   November 12th, 2007 8:00 pm ET

To not support clinton based on her inexperience and then back Rudy? how funny.

John, Kalamazoo Michigan   November 12th, 2007 8:00 pm ET

Is this really news? Are the opinions of a television show creator really what CNN considers hard hitting political commentary? Sorry, I need to read the Observer now.

ronnie - knoxville, tn.   November 12th, 2007 8:00 pm ET

I don't know what's funnier; that we care what some Hollywood producer thinks or that Janeane Garafalo is playing the President?!!! What a joke!

Eric, Los Angeles, CA   November 12th, 2007 8:00 pm ET

I'm not even a Hillary supporter, but why in the world should we care what a tv producer thinks about politics? I wouldn't want to hear sports commentary from Nancy Pelosi and I certainly don't want this idiots opinion about the presidential election.

Laura - Tulsa, OK   November 12th, 2007 7:59 pm ET

Im not saying whether or not I agree with Mr. Surnow, but what does it say about us as a culture that we give the opinion of person in the entertainment industry more credence than say, the cable guy or your child's kindergarten teacher? Or any American? Why do Surnow's thoughts get a whole thread devoted to him, and mine don't and yours don't?

Mike, Memphis TN   November 12th, 2007 7:58 pm ET

I like the idea of Janeane Garofalo as president better than Hillary!

Pablo, Los Angeles, CA   November 12th, 2007 7:58 pm ET

Janeane is the next President on 24? Um... you might want to take 10 seconds to Google something before posting it on your blog. Especially if it's non-news like Joel Surnow's political views.

Zack, Hollyweird, CA   November 12th, 2007 7:55 pm ET

That's a really astute criticism, "Honest to God, just stand back and think about it."

You could substitute Hillary's name with any proper noun and it has the same validity.

"Are we nuts thinking Abraham Lincoln could be president of this country?"

The better question is, "are we nuts for reprinting a television producer's opinion and putting it as a headline on CNN?"

Vinny C. NYC, NY   November 12th, 2007 7:54 pm ET

Interesting. So at least one Hollywood-type would actually back a Republican. Personally, I think Rudy is a good candidate and moderate enough to win this thing. (But then again, I was born and raised in NYC and I grew up with Rudy as mayor as the crime rate plummeted, so I'm probably relatively biased.)

I'm predicting that the next Hollywood type to endorse Rudy is the Governator. Ahnold can give a pretty good boost. Poor Fred Thompson, no showbiz backers yet.

Daniel, NY   November 12th, 2007 7:47 pm ET

The last poll out of Florida shows it could very well happen, as the general election numbers are very very tight - and Clinton dominates her primary. Link

Michael Sheridan, Grand Rapids, MI   November 12th, 2007 7:46 pm ET

This from the guy who has done more than even the Bush administration to popularize torture?
