Family schmamley, he's leaving because he doesnt relish the thought of being in the minority. My only hope is that the dems grow a spine and do to the Republicans what they have done to the Dems for the last decade.

It would be nice if BOTH sides of the aisle would have a mass exodus. Self imposed term limits, what a concept. Sure, it could be a rat leaving a sinking ship, but from my vantage point, that ship has been sunken for a long time. We need a whole new crop of fresh blood because these "career" politicians are not getting the job done.

Look at the current crop of candidates when they talk about their lists of "accomplishments." All of the accomplishments center around spending more of your and my money and giving it to someone else.

Six of the GOP Reps leaving office is to run (or already won) for another election. Rep. from LA won the Governers race and Wilson is running in NM for the Senate. Also, a few are leaving early so there can be a special election and not leave the seat open in 2008. Translation: Some of these retirements are GOOD for the GOP. Some will hurt. But, I can think of at least 12 Democrats that shold also retire because they are being run into the ground right now. With congress at 19% approval rating, some democrats should retire as well and bring in some fersh faces. Good idea when EVERYBODY is looking for change.

He was my representative before I moved to VA earlier this year. He was absolutely terrible. I usually vote pretty much evenly between the two parties, but I voted for the Democrat last year. I hope she runs again and wins the seat – she was a great candidate.

Good. Maybe the Dems will gain enough seats in '08 to be able to overturn Republican filibusters, vetos and other obstructionist strategies.

THAT's why the 110th doesn't accomplish as much as it had originally hoped–Republican obstructionism, vetos, procedural stoppages, etc. The 110th Republicans have done more than any three previous congresses combined.

Frankly I'd rather see a balanced congress where both parties could work together to forward balanced legislation. But if the minority is just going to dig in its heels and refuse to play, then kick 'em to the curb and let's get the majority strong enough to override any obstructionists who remain.

19th House GOP'er gone. you add about 5-7 more retirements that are expected from House Republicans to 10-15 competitive GOP incumbents.....all the dems have to do is break even with those toss-ups and they'll see a net gain of about 5-10 seats in the House...

I still think there is something up in the air about all these White House resignations and Republican congressmen leaving office.
