Hi everyone,

For those who dismiss her appearance as not possbly being effective, I would ask you all to think about this again.

For the sake of argument, let's say women voters make up 50% of the populace. All other things bring equal, we all lean toward candidates that are intelligent, articulate and good looking – sorry this is human nature for the masses. Studies conducted many times over confirm this as accurate. So again let's say this is also an accurate assumption.

If Michelle O does well on the View, and she has made a favorable impression on 50% of the voting populace, other factors being equal, this should result in more votes for Obama. Couple this with his other powerhouse backer – Oprah Winfry, and her very devoted audience (think of the effect she has on book sales for any book she reads and endorses on her book club)…and Obama has an opportunity to really capture a very large portion of female voters. This is not to say at all that women would be swayed only by this backing or these shows, it is only an observation of what may sway their opinions overall and result in votes for a candidate that appeals to a formidable voting bloc!

A silly woman making silly comments on a silly show !!!!

Zeus Racine, WI   November 20th, 2007 7:21 pm ET

This woman is dumber than dirt, uglier than sin and even more bigoted than the KKK; let her mumble in the jungle: the VIEW…

RuthieM   November 20th, 2007 3:44 pm ET

Hm, where's all the screams and jabs and resentments when Bill Clinton takes over the airwaves and byways for Hillary Clinton every two minutes. He's popped up on more news shows, news reports, campaign speeches and what have you, yet he gets more passes and ignores than an ant colony storing up their food for the winter. This is good, Michelle Obama on the View, especially since I've heard ole Whoppie girl says Barack Obama says nothing. Now she can say it to Mrs. Obama's face and Michelle can respond — to Whoppie's face.

Steve, Peoria, IL   November 20th, 2007 12:21 pm ET

Barbara Walters comes across as neutral politically. Im surprised she has had a parade of liberal candidates. Why no balance Barbara?

innie, wilmington il   November 20th, 2007 12:20 pm ET

Elizabeth is on maternity leave. Does that mean there will be a liberals bias to the show , with no one to present the counterpoint?

Stephanie, Philadelphia, PA   November 20th, 2007 11:31 am ET

Good for you, Michelle! You take every opportunity possible to get your family name in American households. Let America see your face and get to know the woman behind the man running for leader of this country.

Who says a potential First Lady should be seen and not heard? Who says that some venues are acceptable and others are not? Grow up! We don't have time to play nice, be quiet and look pretty. It's time – correction: past time – to get our hands dirty and right some wrongs.

Mrs. Obama is an intelligent woman with meaningful, fact-based opinions…political and otherwise.

Best of luck on The View and in 2008!

Matt, Houston, TX   November 20th, 2007 11:13 am ET

Some of these comments amaze me. There is no 'fairness law' preventing any candidate or their spouse from appearing on any television program they want to be on. Most of these shows invite all of the candidates and/or their spouses and take whoever accepts. Especially since the Fairness in Televison Act (aka the equal time principle) was rpealed by Ronald Reagan. So none of you right wingnuts have any right to complain if someone you consider to be liberal gets on the air with some free advertising.

Personally, it's not a show i would normally watch and won't watch this time, either. It won't hurt the Obama campaign with anyone who matters. This is a show that serves a particular demographic and it is smart to use any vehicle at your disposal to get your message targeted at certain groups. There is absolutely no reason for Michelle to apologize to anyone for this appearance just because a few people don't like the show.

sean, NYC   November 20th, 2007 11:10 am ET

Now we have to deal with talking heads on the view; at least the other hosts try to be funny…what can we expect from mrs. barak hussein obama??? if we want to listen to campaign stump speeches and soundbites, we would watch cnn? Obama, stop trying to force your agenda down our throats!

Claudia, Tucson, AZ   November 20th, 2007 11:08 am ET

Michelle Obama is as impressive as her husband. She will be a great mix with Whoopie, Sherry and Joy with her intelligence and friendliness.

Edgewood,MD   November 20th, 2007 10:57 am ET

Finally, someone with substance. I will watch the view while she's on.

Jay, Philadelphia, Pa   November 20th, 2007 10:52 am ET

People are complaining about the other political wives having their time to speak, but what makes you think that they didn't offer. It's not like this is a new thing, Bill Clinton is a spouse and he's been on numerous talk shows.

Ashleigh, Park View, MN   November 20th, 2007 10:47 am ET

This is a good move for both. Most people don't know how attractive and intelligent Michelle is, while the View could use a boost from some of those independant and republican viewers who are so utterly disapointed that there won't be a strong republican candidate.

Brian, Baltimore, MD   November 20th, 2007 10:24 am ET

Hey, here's a thought? Maybe all the other spouses were offered this opportunity…and Maybe Michelle accepted first? Maybe…just maybe…

Farrell, Houston, Tx   November 20th, 2007 10:14 am ET

Mrs. Obama can "handle" herself. I wonder if Giuliani's wife would show her face on The View. I think Hilliary has already been on the show.

Mark Lodes, St. Louis, MO   November 20th, 2007 9:56 am ET

She'll do very well.

Derek, NH   November 20th, 2007 9:29 am ET

She is obnoxious.

Salita, SC   November 20th, 2007 8:57 am ET

James the reason cnn is not reporting obama is not beating hillary is because the poll is with in the margin of error and 43% say they can still change thier minds. Xtina I'm not worried about the power of congress, im more worried now about the power of the president. By the way why are u asking for taxes to be decreased, how do you intend to pay the over 1 trillion dollars this war is costing us?

Ambar Ramirez   November 20th, 2007 8:56 am ET

I don't like The View and I don't watch it, but if Mrs. Obama is going to be hosting, I will make time to watch some. Congratulations to her, she's a very intelligent woman and she'll be great.

Jim, Irmo, SC   November 20th, 2007 8:56 am ET

Obama is leading in Iowa. I still don't give much credence to the polls (for reasons including the lack of college students, those who use only cell phones, and those who screen their calls), but since the Clinton folks seem to put so much stock in them, there ya go.

Douglas Lewis, Knightdale, NC   November 20th, 2007 8:22 am ET

OUTSTANDING! I think that Michelle represents intelligence and character. I realize that some people may not be used to this and may criticize, but I'm just glad that intelligent people are getting some air time. Far too long have we produced and promoted foolishness. Hopefully we can bring the words honor and integrity back to our country. Wow… it's been so long since those words were associated with the US. Enough is enough. It's time for a new America and I personally am tired of the same old politics. Where is the time when the word "America" meant something.

Some complain that she is going on the "VIEW," but HILLARY WAS ALREADY ON THE VIEW! This is an insane conversation. I pray that Michelle is smart enough to look past the non-sense of the past. I truly hope that we will do more to promote smart people on TV instead of numbing our minds with people with no character. I really don't care about the history of the "view" or who has caused it to lose character. This has not a thing to do with who Michelle or Hillary "is" for that matter. Mrs. Obama, bless you and your husband because the country is in the mess we're in now because too many good people have "not" stood up and said… enough is enough.

Mike, Los Angeles, CA   November 20th, 2007 6:21 am ET

Finally a platform where an Obama can be among her peers. After all look at all the wonderfully well represented and well respected past host such as Rosie O'Donnel and Star Jones. Finally the Obamas are among like minded folks.

Zach   November 20th, 2007 1:58 am ET

No matter how many celebrities or backers of Obama in the talk show business try to give him coverage, the fact remains that he has too many double standards. American people are much smarter than many people give them credit for.

Tracy   November 20th, 2007 1:26 am ET

Well, I hope she is a better American than her hubby! I still cannot get over the fact that he could not place his hand over his heart during our National Anthem!! HOW DARE HE! AND you want him as our next president? what a joke. However, she seems like a good choice. afterall, its not permanant. she is only going to be a GUEST host.

Vince, Indianapolis, IN   November 20th, 2007 1:25 am ET

In response to Tricia, actually the ratings for The View have been slightly higher this year then at at any time during Rosie's tenure on the show.

This seems like a great chance to appeal to women voters, a demographic that Obama would love to attract a larger share of. If the opportunity was presented then why not take advantage? Whether you support her husband or not, her past appearances would lead one to believe that this will be a very insightful and honest hour of television.

Obama's wife has appeared WITH OTHER CANDIDATES WIVES, including Mrs.Romney, McCain,Thompson and Edwards on a show hosted by Maria Schriver Schwarzenegger.
Obama's wife is doing what the other candidates wives are doing…talking up their husband's candidacy. Bill Clinton does the same. I would not vote for Obama because he has never run a business, large or small or a city or a State and his backround is problematic but that said he looks good, talks good and is giving Hillary Clinton fits. That is what I really like about him.

I think all those women on the "View" should listen to the men. Vote for the men because they'll tell you to do it. You women don't have it together to lead the country. You're weak because men will tell you what to do and you'll do it. You don't have enough courage to stand up for yourself. You can always vote for the next woman to run. When do you think it will be? Michelle Obama is a conduite for men.

Pat Walter, Oyster Bay, NY   November 19th, 2007 8:56 pm ET

It's not surprising that those leftists libs on that "show" would be breathlessly inviting Michelle to co-host. Don't know if I can stand the bowing and scraping(barf) that will be going on? Can you imagine the "View" having Judi Guiliani or Jeri Thompson as guest host? They would be skewered in the first 5 minutes. Barbara should know better but I believe she has lost her senses.

Brandon, Fort Lauderdale, Florida   November 19th, 2007 8:48 pm ET

I am continuely amazed at the constant coverage of these candidates AND THEIR SPOUCES when they are clearly second rate hacks. Why are candidates like Gov. Richardson, and Senators Edwards and Dodd assigned second tier status when they are the better qualified and more experienced individuals. I'm supporting Bill Richardson for President.

Stephen Thompson, Annandale, VA   November 19th, 2007 8:47 pm ET

It doesn't take much searching to find:

Hillary Rodham Clinton, on The View, December 20, 2006

Hillary Rodham Clinton, on The View, October 15, 2007

Chris Dodd, on The View, October 18, 2007

Joe Biden, on The View, September 24, 2007

Barack Obama, on The View, September 27, 2007

John Edwards has been on The View before, in 2005 though when there wasn't an election going on, so it doesn't really matter but is worth mentioning.

This talk about fairness and Clinton being holier than Obama is unfounded. If anything, Clinton has been on the show more than Obama has, and anyway, who cares?

Mrs. Obama is definetly suited for such a position, but while her husband is running for the Presidential seat. She should let her husband do the running and be careful about such public engagements to avoid potential mishaps that can harm his poll. Remember Heinz-Kerry? Not too many people cared for her-although that isn't what caused Kerry's loss.

xtina - chicago IL   November 19th, 2007 7:47 pm ET

It doesn't matter that Mrs. Obama is smart and attractive; her husband Barack has not had any success in Illinois in lowering taxes. He hasn't had success in much else come to think of it. He is a blank canvas; that is not an offense, it's an observation that he speaks clearly, positively and in such a way that people project their wishes and dreams upon him. He doesn't offend, but he also doesn't inspire Americans to be self-sufficient, only to let big government control them. He's to the left of Hillary, if that's possible; and that's not what America needs now. We need someone who will lessen the power of Congress.

Barrack Obama is a man who had no intention of running for president until a few months ago. He caved into public pressure to run, and now he is making ridiculous plays to get his "message" out to the public.

What he should do is apologize to his wife and kids for upending them, go back to being a senator, get some actual experience and wisdom, and THEN try this again.

Maybe all of the Candidates should appear on the View So we could get the answers to real questions instead of staged events.Just as the last debate in Vegas was simply a Vegas Show. What you should be asking yourself is why Hillary won't appear on Fox.Could it be that she would show her true self?Oh that's right she doesn't want to answer the tough questions, she will feel that they are piling up on her like Russert.Or maybe if they send her the questions or better yet her campaign plant the questions, then maybe should could answer them within 2-weeks.

A Voice For Reason   November 19th, 2007 5:08 pm ET

Bill Clinton continues to "do" the speech circuit so why shouldn't Michelle Obama host a tv show? Sounds like the Clinton people are worried that this articulate woman might do them some harm. People should chill out and concentrate on the issues rather than this silly, childish mud slinging.

I'm surprised she would appear on the show during a writers strike that her husband came out in support of. The View has striking writers out on the picket lines. I'm shocked she would cross!

Hillarylover in SA   November 19th, 2007 5:05 pm ET

Doesn't really matter. We are still behind Clinton. And, I have also heard her speak and I beg to differ – she's not all that. But I wouldn't be surprised if she does use the show to try and sway women voters from Clinton. It won't work. We are not voting for Clinton cuz she's a woman. We are voting for her cuz she is the best candidate. Again, it shouldn't be about making history for the first woman or black man. It should all be about who is the better candidate.

Tricia Charlottetown PEI   November 19th, 2007 5:04 pm ET

The View's Ratings have dropped since Rosie's Stint. Whoopi's sexual remarks has taken the View's ratings lower.

Why would Michelle want to be involved with a Program whose ratings have been dropping steadily during the last six to eight months? I mean for Whoopi and Barbra to state they would like to DO Pelosi's Husband on daytime televison !!! I don't think this is the crowd a Candidate's wife wants to cozy up to.

If Michelle's stint on the view achieves positive feed back it might boost Barack's poll ratings slightly BUT if Michelle doesn't appeal to the audience – Barack's ratings will hit the cellar! So I can think of much better ways to assist your Husband in winning the Presidency!

Let's hope for Edwards that Elizabeth doesn't follow suit. Oh, on second thought, even if Elizabeth did follow suit, John's ratings couldn't do better or worse. He's already discredited himself to the point of no return.

Can this race get any more comical??

To Rachel from NC-

People are comparing Hillary to Michelle because Mrs. Clinton was first lady for eight years, and Michelle is a potential first lady.

I watched the Iowa Democratic party dinner on C-Span last week, and I noticed that Mrs. Clinton and Mrs. Obama chatted with each other for a few minutes afterwards. They must have been having a cordial discussion of balancing the roles of being a working mother and candidate's wife- something they can both relate to.

I think this is the height of inappropriateness. It speaks to Barrack Obama's political immaturity that he and his wife would even consider such a ploy. For Michele Obama to be a guest is one thing. To host is completely over the top.

Posted By First in the Nation Voter, Concord, NH : November 19, 2007 4:05 pm

Ummm, she's a GUEST host, so it doesn't matter. I think this is great, and I'm sure there will be very little conversations about her husband. The Obama family would be perfect for this nation.

Paisley, Cincinnati, OH   November 19th, 2007 4:40 pm ET

Geez, someone better tell Hasselbeck so she can find some appropriate conservative, Republican misinformation to spout! It should be fun to watch Michelle, an intelligent, vibrant, and articulate woman, verbally spar with the often misinformed, rhetoric spouting Elisabeth. tee-hee

Evelyn, Washington, DC   November 19th, 2007 4:38 pm ET

For all those who can't quite get it… Hiliary is a U.S. Senator running for President… quite a different story for Michelle Obama. I liked the comment re "Faux News," however, THE VIEW, is not a serious show. Personally, as a Independent, I do think it will be good for mainstream America to get a good, up-close look at Mrs. Obama, because she is by no means someone who I would want to represent our country. She is LOUD and aggressive, not in the least diplomatic. She comes across to many as narrow minded and with an agenda that is not in line with much of this country. There are plenty of intelligent and attractive people out there… who do not make good leaders. She is one.

Dan, TX   November 19th, 2007 4:27 pm ET

Michele Obama should be allowed to start her campaign, after all, between husbands and wives we can now have four terms in office for presidential couples, right?

I think Hillary is setting a good precedent to get around the two term limit for presidents. Michelle will have two terms as first lady so she will have the experience she needs to be president. Plus, she is married to Barack, so that gives her all the experience so we'll get two-for-one, right? After all, 16 years of one couple (8 for husband, 8 for wife), is that really too much influence on America?

Samuel, Lincoln, NE   November 19th, 2007 4:26 pm ET

Michelle Obama's guest hosting stint on "The View" doesn't violate any FEC rules. Those apply to candidates, not candidates' spouses.

Curiously, I wonder if those same individuals who have been complaining about Ms. Obama have forgotten about episodes of Law and Order featuring Fred Thompson? The FEC rules DO apply there…but TNT has said it plans to air them anyway.

Rod, South Carolina   November 19th, 2007 4:17 pm ET

I've heard her speak before and although I don't watch the view this is interesting and would drive me to watch.
As many have said Mrs Obama is not running for president but instead of having a First husband in the white house I certainly would like to see what she has to say. HAHA equal billing is hilarious when you consider that means they have to invite Bill Clinton on as the potential First Husband… hahahaha

A. Harrison, Atlanta, GA   November 19th, 2007 4:15 pm ET

After the "glass ceiling" comment in Nevada, the wives are on the attack! LOL maybe..lol

Nancy, Mt. Pleasant, TX   November 19th, 2007 4:12 pm ET

If The View asked one candidate's spouse to host…all should have that opportunity.

Personally, The View is stepping from the entertainment venue into paths that they (as enertainment 'hosts'…not qualified political analysist…) shoud steer clear of.

A panel of outspoken, fast talking women are not an influence. They are simply entertaining to watch as they make fools of themselves.

With that being said, to invite one candidate's spouse without inviting all to do the same is unfair.

In this tender political time should others not accept the invitation, then Mrs. Obama, out of courtesy should recluse herself. Though, in her apparent insecurity with her own self one can sense that she would not.

The View is going to continue its controversial stance until it will be so non supported that even reruns will be surfed by.

Lisa, Alexandria, VA   November 19th, 2007 4:10 pm ET

I am thrilled! Finally, we have another black woman of Star Jones' quality hosting The View. I will watch the show everyday as long as Michelle is a host. She is sharp, polished, and an eloquent speaker, and I think she will bring an air of decorum and seriousness to the show (sorry Whoopie and Behar clowns). Michelle is such a sophisticated woman who will SHINE and the audience will love her!

pat huntington ny   November 19th, 2007 4:09 pm ET

I'll make sure I've eaten breakfast long before this witch gets on TV that morning…or else I lose my appetite for the rest of the day! She's nasty!

Dave, Cheverly, MD   November 19th, 2007 4:04 pm ET

This is a VERY good move on Michelle Obama part. It will give American women a chance to get to know more about her and her husband. Media praised Hillary when she was on the View.
Why is it that when the Obama’s get a good media venue/support such as Oprah or the View. The Media says it is some how a big deal. Well it is, “IT”S A GREAT BIG DEAL” it helps balance out that negative press the Media dishes out on a daily bases.

Lynn Reno Nevada   November 19th, 2007 4:02 pm ET

Now wait a minute, this is just one show and I am sure that Hillary Clinton has already been a guest on this show. So why can't Micelle? I don't know what people are talking about here about FEC rules. Clinton goes on many of these shows. They all do. There is no problem here.

Kelly, Plano, Texas   November 19th, 2007 3:56 pm ET

Good……I'll make sure that I tune in. I like her alot she's very intellegent and smart and she would make good role model as our next First Lady.

Andrew, Chicago, Illinois   November 19th, 2007 3:55 pm ET

Michelle Obama is not running for President, so I fail to see why anybody thinks that this would violate FEC laws.

SB   November 19th, 2007 3:54 pm ET

I love Michelle. The View is lucky to have her.

Rachel, Raleigh NC   November 19th, 2007 3:53 pm ET

I am frustrated by all the comments comparing Michelle to Hillary. Michelle's NOT running for president, and Hillary is, meaning that they are going to do different types of appearances. If a show wants to feature all of the spouses of the candidates, then Bill Clinton would be included, not Hillary.

rdierker   November 19th, 2007 3:52 pm ET

I love Michelle almost as much as I love Barack. They are the coolest couple ever, and I can't wait to see her teach Elisabeth a thing or two.

Jonathan Detroit, Michigan   November 19th, 2007 3:51 pm ET

Another attempt by the Ombama campt to be 'cool'. Note to Obama: If you want to appear 'older' and more 'experienced', then please, by all means, stop appearing on the likes of Saturday Night Live and the View. It's hard to take you seriously!

Andria, TN   November 19th, 2007 3:48 pm ET

She is not a candidate so the law does not apply to her. After all, everyone is ALWAYS talking about how the spouses DO NOT MATTER in choosing a candidate. So, why, NOW, is anyone caring what she does? Hhhmmm…

Kyle Goodale, Barrington RI   November 19th, 2007 3:47 pm ET

Wonderful. I can't wait to see what this brilliant, compassionate, classy, and articulate women has to say (rolls eyes). The final curtain for Mr. Obama's campaign. It's about time the pencil-necked idealist have someone close to him destroy him. You get what you give, Barack Hussein Obama.

E.D.   November 19th, 2007 3:46 pm ET

More power to the OBAMA's. This couple is an inspiration to the world.

Anonymous   November 19th, 2007 3:46 pm ET

'08 wife to host 'The View'??? what the heck kind of header is that?

My Answer:

Simple. The law only applies to candidates, not to their spouses. They can get as much "air time" as they want or don't want. After all, we're voting for (or against) her husband, not her.

Posted By Eric, from THE Republic of Texas : November 19, 2007 3:14 pm

Perhaps they have, and Michelle Obama was the first to acecpt the invite.

And how is this any worse than all the free air time Faux News is giving the republiKKKans – especially Sean Hannity, whi keeps having Rudy on his radio and TV shows after actively raising campaign funds for the Giuliani camp?

James, Minneapolis, MN   November 19th, 2007 3:39 pm ET

Um do you really think that the FEC has jurisdiction over every single TV program that exists…..

james, Minneapolis, MN   November 19th, 2007 3:38 pm ET

Um, do you really think that the FEC writes laws that affect candidates spouses as well.

Jackson, Morongo Valley, CA   November 19th, 2007 3:36 pm ET

Isn't this like unfair? … you can't have Michelle Obama on a show without publicizing Obama's campaign at the same time. Barbara Walters used to be in news … she should know better!

Jeff Spangler, Arlington, VA   November 19th, 2007 3:34 pm ET

Trash TV. Why stoop this low to snag the votes of nonvoting hausfraus?

B Katz, New Brunswick NJ   November 19th, 2007 3:33 pm ET

Will The View be giving equal time for spouses of other candidates? I certainly hope so….

E. C., Houston, Texas   November 19th, 2007 3:33 pm ET

Sorry, but Michelle Obama doesn't belong in 'show biz.' Yes, she is smart and attractive, but not for the Host of the View. Political wives should stay off of politically motivated talk shows that are produced for entertainment and controversy only. She should appear on the Sunday News Shows if she cares to make a Real Statement.

Tyler, Denver CO   November 19th, 2007 3:32 pm ET

obviously an attempt to booste obama's popularity…

John, Detroit, Michigan   November 19th, 2007 3:29 pm ET

i wonder if she'll tell women voters that they're stupid if they vote for hillary Clinton just like she told black voters they were when she said they'll just "wake up and get it" that they should vote for Barack instead of Hillary.

Josh Maloney, Oakland, CA   November 19th, 2007 3:29 pm ET

Go Michelle ! She will do great on The View. It will be interesting to see Elisabeth and she interact.

Ron, TX   November 19th, 2007 3:23 pm ET

You wouldn't catch Clinton on that kind of show with unscripted talking points. Good for Michelle! She's such a strong and smart woman. It will be good to have her in the White House beside Barack.

Ryan, New Jersey   November 19th, 2007 3:16 pm ET

I never thought I'd say this, but I might actually watch the View, just to see what she has to say.

Eric, from THE Republic of Texas   November 19th, 2007 3:14 pm ET

John New York, NY   November 19th, 2007 3:12 pm ET

I think Michelle will be a hit with "The View"'s primarily female audience.

Michelle is just as smart as Hillary Clinton is and has the looks of Jackie Kennedy. (She got rave reviews from the media on the slim black dress she wore to the Iowa J-J dinner).

Hightower, NY   November 19th, 2007 3:06 pm ET

just what we need

RICH,NYNY   November 19th, 2007 3:05 pm ET

I HAVE HEARD MRS.OBAMA SPEAK BEFORE AND I THINK SHE WOULD BE A PERFECT FIT ON THE VIEW AS HOST SHE IS SMART BEAUTIFUL AND REPRESENT THE ESSENCE OF A STRONG AMERICAN WOMAN!
