Hi everyone,

For those who dismiss her appearance as not possbly being effective, I would ask you all to think about this again.

For the sake of argument, let's say women voters make up 50% of the populace. All other things bring equal, we all lean toward candidates that are intelligent, articulate and good looking - sorry this is human nature for the masses. Studies conducted many times over confirm this as accurate. So again let's say this is also an accurate assumption.

If Michelle O does well on the View, and she has made a favorable impression on 50% of the voting populace, other factors being equal, this should result in more votes for Obama. Couple this with his other powerhouse backer - Oprah Winfry, and her very devoted audience (think of the effect she has on book sales for any book she reads and endorses on her book club)...and Obama has an opportunity to really capture a very large portion of female voters. This is not to say at all that women would be swayed only by this backing or these shows, it is only an observation of what may sway their opinions overall and result in votes for a candidate that appeals to a formidable voting bloc!

Hm, where's all the screams and jabs and resentments when Bill Clinton takes over the airwaves and byways for Hillary Clinton every two minutes. He's popped up on more news shows, news reports, campaign speeches and what have you, yet he gets more passes and ignores than an ant colony storing up their food for the winter. This is good, Michelle Obama on the View, especially since I've heard ole Whoppie girl says Barack Obama says nothing. Now she can say it to Mrs. Obama's face and Michelle can respond -- to Whoppie's face.

Good for you, Michelle! You take every opportunity possible to get your family name in American households. Let America see your face and get to know the woman behind the man running for leader of this country.

Who says a potential First Lady should be seen and not heard? Who says that some venues are acceptable and others are not? Grow up! We don't have time to play nice, be quiet and look pretty. It's time - correction: past time - to get our hands dirty and right some wrongs.

Mrs. Obama is an intelligent woman with meaningful, fact-based opinions...political and otherwise.

Best of luck on The View and in 2008!

Some of these comments amaze me. There is no 'fairness law' preventing any candidate or their spouse from appearing on any television program they want to be on. Most of these shows invite all of the candidates and/or their spouses and take whoever accepts. Especially since the Fairness in Televison Act (aka the equal time principle) was rpealed by Ronald Reagan. So none of you right wingnuts have any right to complain if someone you consider to be liberal gets on the air with some free advertising.

Personally, it's not a show i would normally watch and won't watch this time, either. It won't hurt the Obama campaign with anyone who matters. This is a show that serves a particular demographic and it is smart to use any vehicle at your disposal to get your message targeted at certain groups. There is absolutely no reason for Michelle to apologize to anyone for this appearance just because a few people don't like the show.

People are complaining about the other political wives having their time to speak, <b>but what makes you think that they didn't offer</b>. It's not like this is a new thing, <b>Bill Clinton</b> is a spouse and he's been on numerous talk shows.

This is a good move for both. Most people don't know how attractive and intelligent Michelle is, while the View could use a boost from some of those independant and republican viewers who are so utterly disapointed that there won't be a strong republican candidate.

James the reason cnn is not reporting obama is not beating hillary is because the poll is with in the margin of error and 43% say they can still change thier minds. Xtina I'm not worried about the power of congress, im more worried now about the power of the president. By the way why are u asking for taxes to be decreased, how do you intend to pay the over 1 trillion dollars this war is costing us?

Obama is leading in Iowa. I still don't give much credence to the polls (for reasons including the lack of college students, those who use only cell phones, and those who screen their calls), but since the Clinton folks seem to put so much stock in them, there ya go.

OUTSTANDING! I think that Michelle represents intelligence and character. I realize that some people may not be used to this and may criticize, but I'm just glad that intelligent people are getting some air time. Far too long have we produced and promoted foolishness. Hopefully we can bring the words honor and integrity back to our country. Wow... it's been so long since those words were associated with the US. Enough is enough. It's time for a new America and I personally am tired of the same old politics. Where is the time when the word "America" meant something.

Some complain that she is going on the "VIEW," but HILLARY WAS ALREADY ON THE VIEW! This is an insane conversation. I pray that Michelle is smart enough to look past the non-sense of the past. I truly hope that we will do more to promote smart people on TV instead of numbing our minds with people with no character. I really don't care about the history of the "view" or who has caused it to lose character. This has not a thing to do with who Michelle or Hillary "is" for that matter. Mrs. Obama, bless you and your husband because the country is in the mess we're in now because too many good people have "not" stood up and said... enough is enough.

Finally a platform where an Obama can be among her peers. After all look at all the wonderfully well represented and well respected past host such as Rosie O'Donnel and Star Jones. Finally the Obamas are among like minded folks.

No matter how many celebrities or backers of Obama in the talk show business try to give him coverage, the fact remains that he has too many double standards. American people are much smarter than many people give them credit for.

In response to Tricia, actually the ratings for The View have been slightly higher this year then at at any time during Rosie's tenure on the show.

This seems like a great chance to appeal to women voters, a demographic that Obama would love to attract a larger share of. If the opportunity was presented then why not take advantage? Whether you support her husband or not, her past appearances would lead one to believe that this will be a very insightful and honest hour of television.

Obama's wife has appeared WITH OTHER CANDIDATES WIVES, including Mrs.Romney, McCain,Thompson and Edwards on a show hosted by Maria Schriver Schwarzenegger.
Obama's wife is doing what the other candidates wives are doing...talking up their husband's candidacy. Bill Clinton does the same. I would not vote for Obama because he has never run a business, large or small or a city or a State and his backround is problematic but that said he looks good, talks good and is giving Hillary Clinton fits. That is what I really like about him.

I think all those women on the "View" should listen to the men. Vote for the men because they'll tell you to do it. You women don't have it together to lead the country. You're weak because men will tell you what to do and you'll do it. You don't have enough courage to stand up for yourself. You can always vote for the next woman to run. When do you think it will be? Michelle Obama is a conduite for men.
This election will show us what kind of " I am woman, hear me roar" What a joke. Just posers you are. This is your chance don't blow it.

"God help us all if the Obamas end up in the White House. They're a nice couple, but Barack is way too inexperienced to lead this country. Hillary, on the other hand, is the only Democratic candidate who has the experience and wisdom to take this country in a new direction.

So, let me get this straight, Obama has less experience than Hil? because Hil was married to a Pres? No one has experience at being President except ex-Presidents! Katie, stop listening to people and start reading...you'll find that Obama has more experience as an elected offical than any of the other Dem. candidates.

So, let me get this straight, Obama has less experience than Hil? because Hil was married to a Pres? No one has experience at being President except ex-Presidents! Katie, stop listening to people and start reading...you'll find that Obama has more experience as an elected offical than any of the other Dem. candidates.

It's not surprising that those leftists libs on that "show" would be breathlessly inviting Michelle to co-host. Don't know if I can stand the bowing and scraping(barf) that will be going on? Can you imagine the "View" having Judi Guiliani or Jeri Thompson as guest host? They would be skewered in the first 5 minutes. Barbara should know better but I believe she has lost her senses.

I am continuely amazed at the constant coverage of these candidates AND THEIR SPOUCES when they are clearly second rate hacks. Why are candidates like Gov. Richardson, and Senators Edwards and Dodd assigned second tier status when they are the better qualified and more experienced individuals. I'm supporting Bill Richardson for President.

It doesn't take much searching to find:

Hillary Rodham Clinton, on The View, December 20, 2006

Hillary Rodham Clinton, on The View, October 15, 2007

Chris Dodd, on The View, October 18, 2007

Joe Biden, on The View, September 24, 2007

Barack Obama, on The View, September 27, 2007

John Edwards has been on The View before, in 2005 though when there wasn't an election going on, so it doesn't really matter but is worth mentioning.

This talk about fairness and Clinton being holier than Obama is unfounded. If anything, Clinton has been on the show more than Obama has, and anyway, who cares?

Mrs. Obama is definetly suited for such a position, but while her husband is running for the Presidential seat. She should let her husband do the running and be careful about such public engagements to avoid potential mishaps that can harm his poll. Remember Heinz-Kerry? Not too many people cared for her-although that isn't what caused Kerry's loss.

It doesn't matter that Mrs. Obama is smart and attractive; her husband Barack has not had any success in Illinois in lowering taxes. He hasn't had success in much else come to think of it. He is a blank canvas; that is not an offense, it's an observation that he speaks clearly, positively and in such a way that people project their wishes and dreams upon him. He doesn't offend, but he also doesn't inspire Americans to be self-sufficient, only to let big government control them. He's to the left of Hillary, if that's possible; and that's not what America needs now. We need someone who will lessen the power of Congress.

<i>Ryan wrote: "...She's going on the show because like it or not, Americans watch this crap...The Obamas want to lift that lowest common denominator UP."</i>

Yes indeedy. And having the candidate's surrogate do a stint as host to "this crap" will really achieve that!

Barrack Obama is a man who had no intention of running for president until a few months ago. He caved into public pressure to run, and now he is making ridiculous plays to get his "message" out to the public.

What he should do is apologize to his wife and kids for upending them, go back to being a senator, get some actual experience and wisdom, and THEN try this again.
