Obama praises Oprah, gets into holiday spirit

Sen. Obama spent some time at a New Hampshire food bank on the eve of Thanksgiving.

(CNN) - While volunteering at a New Hampshire food bank Wednesday, Sen. Barack Obama told reporters that Oprah Winfrey is a close friend and key supporter who would be able to help spread his message to voters not yet tuned into the presidential race.

“Obviously to the extent that she can highlight some of the themes of our campaign and reach some people who might not otherwise be thinking about politics that’s great,” Obama said. The Illinois Democratic presidential hopeful added, “She's a dear friend and I'm real appreciative that she's wiling to take time out of her busy schedule.”

Obama said he plans to spend Thanksgiving in Chicago, where he will play host to his wife’s family.

“Michelle has all of these wonderful uncles as well as her brother who are great storytellers and I spend the entire day just listening to other people instead of talking,” he joked. Obama was keen to stress the importance of giving back during the holiday period. “Thanksgiving is a time when we’re grateful for what we have but we also are thinking about those who don’t have,” he said.

The ONLY reason she's doing this is because he's black. Has the famous Oprah ever backed a previous candidate, white or black? No!

Just another 'photo-op', learned well from the current administration who has done it so often in the past.

I can’t believe there is so much anger. I do not recall anyone saying that Steven Spielberg supports Clinton because she is white. That’s foolishness. Let me inform you of something Senator Obama and Ms. Winfrey have been friends for years in fact they attend the same church. Why can't a friend endorse a friend? Come on.

Ummm, I'm pretty sure Oprah supports him voluntarily.

Although there are still many racists in this country, including Jack from Oregon, I have faith that the people of this country will see Obama for what he truly is: an admirable human being that wants to help create positive change for our country (which we truly need by the way).

There using the race card people. Oprah has never backed a candidate before. WHY? WHY? and WHY? ask yourselves. It is so perfect clear. What a yoke this guy is and what a joke Oprah is. She may have alot of money but she isn't God. I hope this ruins her career. I hope people see that she is just a bunch of BS.

“Sen. Barack Obama told reporters that Oprah Winfrey is a close friend and key supporter who would be able to help spread his message to voters not yet tuned into the presidential race.”

Why should anyone listen to Oprah Winfrey’s political messages of support for Democratic Presidential Candidate Obama?

That’s right ... they share the same “Foreign Policy” type experience(one lived in a foreign country, and one has a school in a foreign country).

Both are highly qualified: Obama as a Lawyer. Oprah as a Businesswoman. But to lead America ? NO!

I’ll be supporting John McCain for President!

You know it's the day before Thanksgiving. I will Thank God for all he has given me, you and our country. And, the only thing I will say about this Oprah BS is just that BS.

I'm not sure if Oprah is a good thing right now with the Oprah endorsed plastic surgeon thing. I mean, c'mon, what does it take to get her endorsement? She refuses to comment on this horror.

Jesse, you should look closer to what change represents. Pretending to care about people and taking cheap shoots of posing/smiling in from of the camera has nothing to do with ability to bring change. "Volunteering at a New Hampshire food bank" .. shouldn't you wear gloves Mr Obama like the girl who was working? or you stopped by for a picture only?

(And CNN, don't go for the 'popular guy' only and/or delete inconvenient posts. This is Political Ticker not entertainment)

She may be too big of a gun for him at this point in the process. She is better known, has more money, and is more popular. You do not want to use a person to sell you that could actually beat you if she was running against you. She may also turn men off because she comes off as too strong of a female or person in general.

Oprah is an incredibly successful business woman who understands the free market. She understand what it takes to run a large successful media business. She also has people skills that most posters here obviously don't possess.

She is an incredible model for Americans, republicans, democrats, or otherwise. She started very poor and ended up a multi-millionare based on using her God-given talents and hard work.

The reasons why so many people, regardless of race, religion, or ethnicity, love Oprah is because they know that her experience and judgement is extraordinary. Hence, the fact that she strongly supports Barack Obama because he also has the experience and judgement that we need in the next president of this great free market, capitalist economy, that is successful not only because of talent and hard work by individuals, but also by fairness and democracy in the society.

Folks we all ready had this out back when Oprah first said she backed Obama. At least she is coming out and saying it in the open. Not like the Media (ALL of them) who are rigging debates and smearing Obama while clearly campaigning for Hillary.

Good for Obama and to Oprah, Do what you do best Oprah. Which is Presenting and exposing Americas to persons, views and hidden treasures that are incorporated in our World.
