ST. PETERSBURG, Florida (CNN) - Sen. Hillary Clinton got a boost from a Hollywood legend Tuesday, in the form of an endorsement by noted actress and singer Barbara Streisand.

Streisand, a longtime Democratic activist, cited the historic nature of the New York senator's campaign, and her ability to bring about change, as reasons for giving her endorsement.

"Madame President of the United States...it’s an extraordinary thought," Streisand said in a press release. "We truly are in a momentous time, where a woman’s potential has no limitations, Hillary Clinton has already proven to a generation of women that there are no limits for success."

Streisand also said "our country will gain its respect within the global community," under a Clinton presidency.

Wasn't she popular back in the 70's. I think she was the one with the big nose, the big mouth and the pretty voice.
I do not think this should be war of the endorements but if it is, Obama scored big time. Hillary,um not so much!

Dorian, Brentwood, CA   November 28th, 2007 1:54 pm ET

Streisand trumps Oprah; Hillary trumps Obama. Two bright, talented women as opposed to an empty-suit and a TV talk show hostess.

Tom - Dedham, Mass   November 28th, 2007 12:48 pm ET

I will take great solace knowing that my one vote cancels out this over blown and overrated diva's vote.

How did those $500 and $1000 tickets sell your last tour (the ones for the "common folk")?

Say goodnight and goodbye "babs".

Mary, Beaver, PA   November 28th, 2007 12:12 pm ET

Streisand supporting Clinton. What a surprise. The only ones who will be impressed by this are other left-wingers. Barb, you can sing, but your politics stink, and they always have.

Ryan Indianapolis   November 28th, 2007 9:50 am ET

How is this news?????Oh yea CNN seems to think that idiotic uneducated backstabbing traitors are somehow important endorsements....CNN you partisian ways are so transparent.

Olivia - San Antonio - Texas   November 28th, 2007 6:52 am ET

IN A WORD? INTEGRITY…Oprah's got it in aces?! I beg to differ. Oprah lost her integrity when she started to play this game. And, we all know what game that is. You can't compare Oprah to Barbara – there is no comparsion. So it goes w/out saying that "Oprah is NO Barbara."

Jenssen Vanderbilt illinois   November 28th, 2007 12:50 am ET

unless you are as old as dirt this means nothing. nobody cares about babs or streisand or whatever she is called. A legend? not hardly even only being 35 I have never cared about her songs or anything else, to half of the voting population she is only a name that a lot of people used to know.

Tim, Omaha, NE   November 28th, 2007 12:46 am ET

How many of you actually change your vote because some celebrity endorses a candidate? Are you so incapable of making up your own mind that someone else has to do it for you?

roma w, berrien sprs. mi   November 27th, 2007 11:50 pm ET

Talk about being divisive! YOU LIBERALS are even fighting over Babs vs. Oprah ! Fools

Marilyn Bryan, Taylor, AR   November 27th, 2007 8:58 pm ET

A Clinton presidency would erase someof the hatred and rancor generated by Pres. Bush. The Clinton scandal was
fanned into a larger one by Republicans and the media,
while the scandals of the Bush administration, which are greater and
more harmful to the nation, have got a
do pass from fellow Republicans and the media. Go figure.
Our friends overseas had no trouble
discerning this, hence former Pres.
Clinton receives more respect and adulation from them than does the present president.
If Pres. Bush had surrounded himself with those other than the neocons and
those who were in total agreement with him/them, we would not be in the predicament we are in today. Those whom the president chooses in his/her administration should be chosen for their abilities, not their financial or other support.
We need to hear more about solutions and less bad-mouthing.

FT Doylestown,Pa   November 27th, 2007 8:13 pm ET

Gee ...give me a break.
Talk about Keeping up with "The Jones's"...
How can we take any of these "Fools" seriously. REALLY?

Nancy Navarro   November 27th, 2007 7:54 pm ET

We believe Barbra Steisand's voice is indeed a gift from above. However, when it comes to politics, the same cannot be said. We have a saying around here: "Wait to see who Barbra endorses and then RUN the other way." She can pick music but unfortunately, she isn't inspired about picking candidates.

stan pitts p.a   November 27th, 2007 7:52 pm ET

She's no Oprah.

Of course not. Streisand has talent. Oprah is a money maker.

Posted By Amy, Seattle, WA : November 27, 2007 5:53 pm
Nothing wrong with making money, its still the american way and the american dream, oprah is sincere, honest, down-to-earth and generous, so while i may not vote for obama based on what oprah thinks, i will surely be listening and giving her the time of day, oprah we love you and all you do for people!

Steve Larson, San Antonio, TX   November 27th, 2007 7:23 pm ET

Ooooooooh! Barbara Streisand! A serious political advisor to be sure! I know I'm going to cast my ballot based upon the opinions of a star like "Babs"!

Chris Shanahan,, Buffalo NY   November 27th, 2007 7:19 pm ET

Clebrities are not politicians, there are as full of crap and as mindless as anyone else, I am tired of these liberal celebrities lending their name to campaigns. Some did not even finish high school (Sean Penn) so why listen to anyhting that comes out of their mouth. Make your own decisions based on your ideas, don't be swayed because you liked their last movie or song, morons!

D Sparr Kansas City, MO   November 27th, 2007 6:50 pm ET

Yes...she's no Oprah, she's accomplished more than Oprah ever thought of....I for one am sick of Oprah.

Gary, des moines, Iowa   November 27th, 2007 6:41 pm ET

Barbara's endorsement of Hillary Clinton takes the breath out of Oprah and Obama. Barbara has been a legend in the entertainment industry for decades, and Oprah pales in comparing to her.

Lyn, Md   November 27th, 2007 6:20 pm ET

Sad...really sad.

Still trying to play catch-up Hillary.

Try again...

Hoping - SA   November 27th, 2007 6:00 pm ET

Yeah right – INTEGRITY…Oprah's got it in aces!!!!! She threw out that the window when she decided to play this game. And, we all know what game that is. Shame.

Amy, Seattle, WA   November 27th, 2007 5:53 pm ET

Barbara Streisand is a legend, and she beats Oprah easily in my book.

Hillary 08.

Jim in Orlando, FL   November 27th, 2007 5:47 pm ET

With campaign endorsements like Streisand, who needs scandals ...errr enemies. The great thing of it is is that Oprah brings many from the middle to Obama. Streisand is a highly partisan polarizer. She brings no one that Shrill didn't already have, and drives the rest away.

AN, Fairfax, VA   November 27th, 2007 5:45 pm ET

"So explain the difference between people voting for Clinton because of Bill and people voting for Obama because of Oprah?"

IN A WORD? INTEGRITY...Oprah's got it in aces!!!!!

Walt, Belton, TX   November 27th, 2007 5:08 pm ET

Is a Streisand indorsement as good as a peck on the cheek from good ole boy Jesse ole Al?

My guess is Miss Honkers wins!

Steve in SC   November 27th, 2007 5:02 pm ET

To all who are excited about the all the celebrity endorsements, they only get to vote just once, just like me! This all means very little unless you are slighty more robot than human!

Manny James, Marietta Ga   November 27th, 2007 4:52 pm ET

I like Hillary And Obama! I only wish they would stop listening to the media and stop fighting.. Somewhere down the line at least one of them will need the other. If some of the negative comments on this article were made by DEMS, shame on you..we need each other..

Tim, Cincinnati, OH   November 27th, 2007 4:51 pm ET

Babs, you are no Oprah. Good try.

R, NJ   November 27th, 2007 4:49 pm ET

Who's Barbara Streisand?

Hoping in SA   November 27th, 2007 4:47 pm ET

So explain the difference between people voting for Clinton because of Bill and people voting for Obama because of Oprah? Thought so......

Lucas, Elgin, SC   November 27th, 2007 4:47 pm ET

There is talk about the impact that Oprah will have on the Obama campaign. I can tell ya that Babs is gonna hurt Clinton, maybe unfairly, but Oprah has a timeless quality and a lot of people see Barbara as old news and she is seen as, dare I say, shrill by some. Shrill doesn't help shrill, Hill.

Alice, VA   November 27th, 2007 4:42 pm ET

Liked the Lincoln Bedroom did you Barbara? A Babs endorsement...whoopteedoo!

Surrealist, Fort Myers, FL   November 27th, 2007 4:22 pm ET

The fact that Barbara and I support the same candidate–isn't my best moment. Truthfully, I would rather have Chuck Norris for Hillary. I like him, and we were both in the Air Force at one time. But what the heck! Welcome aboard Barbara...don't catch your dress in the car door.

Olivia - San Antonio - Texas   November 27th, 2007 4:21 pm ET

This is awesome! thanks Streisand for support Ms. clinton

xtina chicago IL   November 27th, 2007 4:21 pm ET

Streisand is one of the few people I give a pass to because she's got the greatest voice and interpretation of songs. But she's an elitist and has a nasty demeanor when discussing politics. She and Oprah can do whatever they want, but why do people think they can relate to the everyday person? Oprah can't even pump gas, she's so insulated from real life she doesn't even know what the gas nozzle is or how to operate it.

p.s. I like how you call Babs a "noted actress". She's an institution – she's her own category of entertainer that 's how legendary she is.

VL North Carolina   November 27th, 2007 4:20 pm ET

The word of the day: W-G-A-F about Babs...thank you for your time

Mark, Shreveport, La   November 27th, 2007 4:19 pm ET

Streisand also said "our country will gain its respect within the global community," under a Clinton presidency.

Because Barbara Streisand is first and foremost a foriegn policy expert! =p

Nita - SA - TX   November 27th, 2007 3:49 pm ET

Monte – we are together on this. I jumped off my chair with excitment when I read this. Not that I am surprised. I knew Streisand would pick Clinton. I KNEW it. She is not about anything other than who can do the best for our country.

Daniel, NY   November 27th, 2007 3:35 pm ET

CLinton also held on to first place in a new Iowa poll, though she is now tied with Obama... The GOP race is also all tied up.

IM DISGUSTED, Ferndale, MI   November 27th, 2007 3:30 pm ET

Hideous.

Dave, Cheverly MD   November 27th, 2007 3:24 pm ET

We ware all waiting to see who Hillary’s response to Oprah was going to be. So WHAT! Didn’t Babs go for Dean also? Not surprising, Barbara S. is doing this for Bill, just like many of Hillary’s older voters are for Hillary. Cause of Bill. You do NOT vote for a President because of their spouse. If their spouse should become ill you would be stuck with 4 years of “If I knew then what I know now”. Vote for the person running as that will be the person making decisions for all of us.

Melissa, Dallas, TX   November 27th, 2007 3:20 pm ET

Is Streisand still relevant?

Tom - Dedham, Mass   November 27th, 2007 3:19 pm ET

Well, now that this so smart genius is endorsing her I will change my vote.

With her on Hilary's side, she may actually win by a "nose".

Maybe have some more concerts with $500 tickets (for the common folk) and then have NOBODY show up again.

Can't wait.

"Memory, it's so easy to hate you"...

Kathy ABQ, NM   November 27th, 2007 3:18 pm ET

This just proves that Streisand is the idiot I'd come to think she was. The key word is "activist" of course. She's got to do something now that she won't be able to sing to make people miserable.

Dave, Evergreen CO   November 27th, 2007 3:14 pm ET

She's no Oprah.

tired of corruption LV   November 27th, 2007 3:12 pm ET

If Clinton were actually running on something she accomplished instead of Bill's presidencey her candidacy wouldnt't be such a joke.

With all the Clinton scandals, how can anyone think that she would garner any respect from the global community.

Joe G, Washington, DC   November 27th, 2007 3:09 pm ET

OMG: This will inspire another South Park classic episode for sure!

I can't wait to see it.

Jimenez - Texas   November 27th, 2007 3:07 pm ET

Thank you Ms. Streisand. We knew you would be intelligent enough to vote for a person not for gender not for race but because of Ms. Clinton's ability. Thank you.
