(CNN) - Sen. John McCain of Arizona brought up Iraq on a question about terrorism and America's image around the world. Now that there is more positive news coming out of Iraq, McCain is capitalizing on his support of the Bush administration's "troop surge."

Iraq has been an unpopular issue among the Republican presidential candidates the past few months, but McCain will probably play up his support of the controversial policy if security in Iraq keeps improving.

I believe that the troop surge is not working. I am a Democrat but I do not believe that we should withdraw. We must however alter our strategy because what we are doing now is not working. We should refocus on Diplomatic not a military solution. We should also clean the slate by appointing new commanders and new joint chiefs since the current ones have obviously failed in their duty.

I dont like being in Iraq. That being said we are in Iraq and it's a mess our mess we can and will clean it up. McCain has it right. we can't run it's just not an option.Sad but true.

The reason we are in Iraq are very simple and is never covered by the MSM. In 1953 the United States covertly sponsered an overthrow of the Iranian government. Then in 1979, the Iranian revolution took place, blowback, and islamic, anti-american extremist came into power. America, fearing Iran, then supported Sadam and armed Sudam, and even supplied some chemical and biological weapons to Iraq, to fight Iran in the Iran-Iraq war. Then in 1990 when Iraq decided to invade Kuwait, America was fearful Sadam would threaten the country with the largest oil reserve in the world, Saudi Arabia, decided to fight Iraq in the first Gulf War and decided to permantly base troops in Saudi Arabia. This happened to enrage many Muslims, including Osama Bin Laden. Then because of the continuous American military presence in Iraq and the Middle East throughout the 1990's, Osama Bin Laden decided to launch a crusade against against the USA. This led to the attacks of Sept. 11. The Bush administration then decided to blame Sudam for the attacks and invade Iraq. Iraq just happens to have the second largest oil reserve in the world. After the invasion, the USA has a dominant political and military influence in the two nations with the two largest oil reserves in the world and has a military presence in two Muslim nations near Iran. Now the USA can continuously fuel the Military Industrial Complex and keep a close eye on Iran. Why doesn't CNN cover these facts. I wish CNN would host a debate moderated by Lou Dobbs and Jack Cafferty, two men who represent the interests of the majority of the American public.

Ron/Paul, too hot to handle.

That's a ticket I'd put money on.

Kevin, N., our troops won a difinitive victory when the WMDs were not found and Saddam was captured... Mission Accomplished.

The troops moral is being crushed because they're still there and they're being denied healthcare and benefits when they do return.

McCain/Huckabee is unbeatable..

Our Military defends our country regardless of the public opinion and political agenda. Being forced to pull out prior to a definite victory would destroy the moral of the troops who have been deployed. Sen. McCain knows that better than most! Lower Military moral lowers our overall security. I would hope (and I feel) McCain's response came from experience – not political motivation!

The surge isn't what we're being led to believe. And general Petreaus admits as much. In Public. In his own words.

John McCain's support of the War in Iraq is the main reason why he won't be the Republican nominee.
