WASHINGTON (CNN) - A new Gallup poll finds New Yorkers Rudy Giuliani and Sen. Hillary Clinton appear to be holding on to first place in their respective presidential primary bids.

Republicans and Republican-leaning independents seem to favor former New York City mayor Giuliani, who captures 28 percent of that group, followed by former Tennessee Sen. Fred Thompson at 19 percent, Arizona Sen. John McCain at 13 percent and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney at 12 percent.

Among Democrats and Democratic leaning-independents, Clinton seems to have momentum heading into early voting, with 48 percent of those voters telling pollsters the New York senator is their first choice. Her closest rivals, Illinois Sen. Barack Obama and former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards, trail with 21 and 12 percent of the vote, respectively.

The poll was conducted from November 11 –14, 2007 and has a margin of error of plus or minus five percentage points.

You all know that CNN has to give Hillary something to FED ON every now and then so why can't you be considerate and let her have these results posted even if they are OLD! common now she won't have much to say if there are no polls!

HILLARYLOVER IN SA   November 28th, 2007 7:43 pm ET

WE LOVE YOU HILLARY. You got them running. Yes the republicans hate you -with good reason! You will be the one that takes it in 08. I know it – they know it.

I think Cnn is rushing us there. What a pity!

I wonder what would happen to Giuliani's lead among "terrorized" Republicans if the mainstream media (like CNN) started to report on his business dealings in Qatar.

Hurrah for Hillary!

Yes, the Gallup poll of Nov 14 showing Hillary ahead of Obama by 27 points is bit old. But, the latest Rasmussen poll of Nov 26 still shows Hillary beats Obama by 24 points.

It is naive of some people saying that polls are meaningless when these polls consistently and over a long period of time showing a particular candidate, Hillary, leads by around 25 points.

Hillary is not Howard Dean of 2004. Dean didnt lead that big and for so many months consistently, for nearly all states of america. Besides, Dean didnt raise as much money, and didnt have a good campaign machine.

Constant denial is bad for your mental health.

WE want to beat the Republicans in 2008. We are supporting Hillary because she's the most experienced candidate and will give us the leadership we need to move our country forward again. WE are behind you Ms.Clinton. You have oursupport but only not from women but also from men that know you are the best. Not only from whites and blacks but from every race this great country has. WE will come in the millions not in the thousands.

Well 2wks, one week, yesterday..as a Clinton supporter I for one hope these numbers hold up when it counts.

This poll was conducted two weeks ago. Will CNN ever get off Hillary?

Frank, San Diego, CA   November 28th, 2007 5:28 pm ET

Too many "undecideds" for polls to mean anything right now. Take me, for example. The first man (or women) who promises a full, top-to-bottom investigation and prosecution of the domestic and international crimes of Bush & Co. will get my vote.

So Huckabee is leading in Iowa and is in fifth place in the national poll. This pretty much shows that the national polls are meaningless. People will pay more attention to all the candidates rather than just say the name of the most famous candidate at some point.

When people start to pay attention (AFTER JAN 3) we are going to see polls that have some meaning.

HAVE WE NOT LEARNT ANYTHING FROM NATIONAL POLLS THIS EARLY ?
YEAR AFTER YEAR, THE MEDIA TOUTS NATIONAL POLLS – AND TAKES THEM SERIOUSLY – EVEN BEFORE VOTING IN EARLY PRIMARY STATES BEGIN.
Do we need any more evidence that these early natioanl polls are not utterly useless. Anyone who is interesting should go back 4,8,12 years and check the natioanl polls this time around and see who was ahead then and subsequently who became the nominee. - recent memory Howard Dean – nuff said.

OK, CNN, this poll was taken 2 weeks ago. We should take this seriously.
I thought CNN was supposed to be a news network, well, the operative word there is new.\
I'd venture to say that after two weeks the margin of error is more like plus or minus 25 prcentage points.
You must really think the plebiscite in this country is made up of a bunch of idiots.

Daniel, NY   November 28th, 2007 4:34 pm ET

The state by state picture is completely insane though, with Huckabee first today in a new Iowa poll for the first time ever, but Romney finally taking the lead in a new poll from South Carolina.Hard to know what's going on, really.
