Question #1288: What would you do to repair the perception of America in the Muslim world?

Yasmin al Hadi from Huntsville, Alabama

(CNN) - Yasmin al Hadi from Huntsville, Alabama asks: After living abroad personally in the Middle East for a year, I realized just how much damage the Iraq war and the perception of invasion has done to the image of America. What would you do as president to repair the image of America in the eyes of the Muslim world?

What did you think about the candidates' response to the question? What would you have asked? Add your comment below, or better yet, turn on your camera to record your commentary and reaction video and send in your I-Report. How about what can the Muslim world do to repair their image with Americans?

Most mid-east Muslims had negative views concerning Americans long before the Irag War.

I am so sorry I had to put on my glasses on for this one. Let's see if I understand Yasmin al Hadi from Huntsville, Alabama: "What would you do as president to repair the image of America in the eyes of the Muslim world?" You know I didn't agree with what happened with Iraq. But God give me a break. Our country has done nothing but to try and help out and what do we get back in return? If anything the Muslim World should be asking our country what they can do to repair their image!

Who cares what a culture of hate thinks? Any society that lashes a rape VICTIM and arrests a teacher for naming a teddy bear needs to be irradicated from the earth.

Excuse me Ms. Yasmin, but public airports around the country are being forced and bullied by CAIR into having footbaths for Muslim worship , yet my child's school can't have a creche in front of the building on Christmas?! We shouldn't let any more Muslim Iraqi refugees in here to suck up more of my tax dollars !

Looks like Cnn sensored my last attempt. sometimes the truth hurts as it was intended in this case. The Image of the radical Muslim world is to kill the infidels. And us Americans are the infidels. We in this country still value life as apposed to the culture of terror we are at war with

If ms. Yasmin al Hadi from Huntsville, Alabama were in a Muslim Nation, she'd be forced to walk behind a man, forced to keep her face covered, and would never have been permitted to participate in politics or ask this question.

Okay, first of all...no one wants to answer my question. Second of all, the kind of hate that is up here is APALLING...When I asked my question the intention was to allow the candidates to address the very REAL concern of how the image of America has been contorted to mean "Imperialist Invader"...and how we should change that image. Why is everyone so caught up on my reference to the "Muslim world"? Have you stopped to think about the media and its effect on YOU and all Americans..have YOU been to the MiddleEast...just 7 years ago, pple in Egypt for example WANTED to be nothing more than AMERICAN...that's how it actually was all over the world in fact. We used to have good will; we used to be the idealized culture & society. Now, that is replaced with hate and frustration. THE PEOPLE WHO ATTACKED US WERE RADICAL EXTREMIST WHO HAPPENED TO CALL THEMSELVES MUSLIMS..NOT the Muslim World. For Al Qaeda's murders, IRAQ OF ALL COUNTRIES had to suffer...does this make sense to you? The people of Iraq died in this "war on terror" and yet there were no WMD's or any connections with Al Qaeda.

Who knew that America had a negative perception in the Muslim world with all the bigots out of the woodworks?

Not to mention that Iraq never wanted America to "liberate" them in the first place.

It was just on the news about the Muslim teacher who will suffer 40 lashes or be stoned or something, for not stopping her pupil from naming a teddy bear Mohammed. Why don't you go over to that country and reform it . You certainly aren't being discriminated against in THIS country. You love your freedom here, don't you?

Provide that the definition of America is a freely governing and defined portion of a land mass 'Nation' and not a religious doctrine held to compete with that of the Muslims, so prove but not make strides that Muslims are present and welcome.

Some of you are wrong about this.

My two cents are that we "make up" with the ENTIRE world for our
behavior. Not apologize, but "shift" strategies to the Navy Seals, not 120000 soliders. Waste of time and money (and life).

Until you people learn WHY, you will NEVER understand the SOLUTION. (And no, the simple ignorant "because we're free" doesn't cut it).

"Our country has done nothing but to try and help out."

    ...

Please. Just please, do yourself a favor and do some research. There's PLENTY we've done wrong in the Middle East.

Aiding Saddam Hussein in the late 1980s, training/funding the Mujahideen (among who was, guess who, Osama Bin Laden) in Afghanistan, supporting whichever government in Saudi Arabia happens to want to sell us the most oil (no matter how repressive), supporting various coups, constant saber rattling, I could go on.

This isn't to lay even the bulk of the conflict in that region on our shoulders, but we certainly have played negative roles and made serious mistakes, mistakes worth apologizing for.

Also, people here need to realize that there are over 3 million American Muslims, most of whom are proud to live in this country. Are we going to let a small number of terrorists, all of whom (I believe) weren't even from this country, characterize these 3 million people? We're better than this.

This question has a very simple answer........remove American troops from the Middle East. People don't tend to have positive views of nations who occupy their countries. I don't think Americans would have a positive view of China or any other nation for that manner if their militaries were occupying the United States!!!!!

We demand apologies when something happens to us, but when we attacked a country that had done nothing to us- when do we apologize to them

the right-wing nuts won't apologize for dropping bombs, killing & occupying their country.

And some feel torture inflicted by U.S. personnel should not be brought up.

Why should they care what the rest of the world thinks? Unfortunately for them, most of us do.
