I would like to say that the issue of space exploration is a huge one depending on where you are from or what you plan on going into. Believe it or not, some kids could care less about the educational process if not for the high and lofty goals of someday exploring Mars and beyond. I was a counselor for Space Camp here in Huntsville, AL for two years and I go to school here for Aerospace Engineering. I couldn't begin to comprehend majoring in anything else as far as I'm concerned. We talk about trying to stay focused on the important issues at hand, but try and inspire a 6-year old to become good at math so that someday he can "lower the deficit". It just ain't happening. Given my experience I can tell you that for every dollar spent on space exploration it becomes $7 back into improved technology.

Case in point: School buses have been manufactured much stronger for the last two decades as a result of structural engineering techniques originally applied to the Space Shuttle. You may remember a horrific bus crash here in Huntsville last year when a bus full of students fell forty feet off an overpass. It killed 4 students. Fortunately, it didn't kill any more than that.

I think anybody up there on that stage realized there are more immediate concerns in our country, and that the majority of anyone's time as president is going to be spent on those concerns. But given the fact that President Bush's announced plans for the Vision for Space Exploration almost four years ago caused NASA to get its head out of its rear, close up unneeded programs, and shuffle around alot of its personnel and infrastructure, which basically changed the entire career landscape of engineering communites like Huntsville, it was a pretty darn important question. Please think about that before you make yet another uneducated post about what the "important" issues are. Oh, and enjoy riding the bus.

Why is a member of the Christian Right
running as a Presidential Candidate
under the Republican Party instead of the Democratic Party. Seems strange.
Was he a Republican Governor in Arkansas?

By all means, lets put Huckabee in office and when he doesn't have the first idea what to do for a world in crisis he'll joke us all to death. You would have to be really blind to vote for this guy. He has a very witty personality, and he's very charismatic and that's about it. Since when is wit a qualification for office?

Hey CNN, very funny but can't The Daily Show handle crap like this?

Just because one of those Republican jokers says something on your network doesn't automatically make it news.

Let's act more like a news organization -- instead of just another business center of Time Warner -- and cover some stuff that actually matters, like the variety of ways the present Republican administration has disgraced our country's Constitution and broken or ignored our nation's laws?

Not going to happen, is it?

I am no fan of Hilary, can't stand to look at her or hear the trash she speaks, but Politicians attempt at humor is embarrassing. It feels awkward when a Politician tries to make a Joke about another Politician. The laughter response seems forced. The jokes usually are preschoolish in thought. Just weird.

Cheap shot at Senator Clinton from another insecure candidate. This serves no useful purpose, and merely lowers the level of discourse.

John F. Kennedy had a sense of humor. Mike Huckabee, you're no John F. Kennedy.

One of funny lines of the night. I'm in no way a Republican supporter, but in the Republican field, I do like Huckabee the best. He has the southern charm and witty responses but some of statements leave me wondering, is this guy for real? Huckabee said that America should get rid of the IRS with no option for how the federal government would run with no money.

I can't believe that nobody said add Chelsea to the flight to MARS! This needs to be a family flight and Chelsea has to be on board, well on board, tied outside all the same!

You know what would be interesting though? Hackabee [or is it Hackacee] should get George W to captain that flight!

Yes, by all means - send her to Mars, and send Bill along with her. Then with any luck, the communciation and control link will be broken. Can you imagine Bill and Hillary lost in space, together, forever? What a great idea for a sitcom or reality show (or possibly a crime drama).

I knew I was starting to really like Huckabee. But is Mars far enough. I say let's send her to Jupiter. Besides, she's already run the country for 8 years and shouldn't be allowed to get anymore.

First of all, to those offended by Huckabee's remark about Hillary being on the first rocket to Mars....Go out and buy yourself a sense of humor. Huckabee was extremely impressive and actually has a personality which seemed to be missing in the other candidates. I'll be looking for his stance on other important issues as the race progresses but I can see Huckabee making a very serious run in the upcoming elections. He has definate traits that remind me of Ronald Reagan.

It was just a joke people, in response to a pretty frivolous question. He was not serious about sending Hilary to Mars. If a Democrat had said that about Guliani or Thompson, you Democrats wouldn't be complaining - you would be laughing as well. Some of the questions that CNN chose to ask are very questionable - they should've stuck to the more serious issues. And where is the outrage over the "planted" question from a Hilary supporter ....

Huckabee would do well to explain to the American people what he would try to accomplish as president instead of trying to carry on Bush's program of dividing the country into hating each other.
He says this and he was (is) a Baptist minister. Maybe he missed something during his stay at the seminary.
Maybe that is the reason he is no longer guiding a Church, he has changed his spots and now is in the process of dividing and conquer, carrying on the vision of Bush.

"How is it that voters can give Republicans credit for fiscal conservatism when they have increased the national debt..."

Because past experience has shown us that Democrats make it even worse by spending even more. Just look at the candidates plans, whose is for cutting spending??

Huckleberry--you know full well that under your administration there will be no money for NASA. More "whackaberry" politics from Huckleberry. Did he say anything of substance during the debate?

Yet another Republican buffoon talking about non-relative and espousing hate. None of you, except for Ron Paul, tried to tackle issues. The only thing you Republicans do is trade barbs and never discuss real solutions. It's no wonder you are in such dire straits. You all demonize Hillary Clinton, when the real demons already are in the White House - Bush/Cheney. Whatever the case, Hillary Clinton will whip any of your asses in November 2008!!!!!

Huckabee has now shown his name-calling, soundbite attack colors. Rebel against any party candidate who resorts to negative campaigning and personal insults. If the candidates can't stay on the high road then at least we voters should.

I haven't decided yet if I'm a Hillary fan or not, but the Republicans should be so embarrassed by the last seven years that they should be convincing us of their reforms rather than dissing Clinton. This debate left me amazed. It would seem they have learned NOTHING-- we heard them all (but Paul) kissing up to the ultra right and the religious right, just as Bush did. They know the Bush policies have killed their party, yet they're echoing the same old. America, if you elect one of these guys, you're asking for more of the same.

The more I hear Republicans cough up these outrageous hairballs, the more incredulous I am that anyone would even think of voting for any of these guys.

The Republican party should make their slogan "The party that is anti-choice, anti-gay and hates immigrants and believes if you are not Christian, your religion is not is good as ours."

Really, these guys could give extremists around the world a run for their money.

If my slogan sounds extreme, doing even a casual search of the Internet will find comments by any/all of the Republican candidates that supports it.
