Charles,

Don't get such a big head on your shoulders pal. Everyone Knows about stereotyping. Let me put this in terms that you might understand. Hmm.. so if you are a women you would vote for Hilary, or if you are black then vote for Obama, or if you or a Morman vote for Romney and so on. This guy has his facts distorted with run a way conspriacy theories, which do not reflect the majority of us Ron Paul supproters. If you would like to debate intelligently on issues drop me a line here instead of bashing us.

Dr. Ron Paul has guts and says what he believes, not what people want to hear. And besides that, he is from my home town and delived two of my babies. I don't have a better reason than that to vote for any of the other bozos.

In response to reply of Mr. Cobb: It should be recalled that a large portion of our population consider a fetus to be a living human., not property. So in the case of abortion the human rights as delinated in the Declaration of Independence are being denied. This is an area the states should be allowed to regulate. This is truly an interaction between 2 distinct individuals, not between a citizen(the mother) and her property(the baby).KRC

I retired as a LtCol. from the USMCR. I spent 8 years on active duty. My son was medically retired from the USMC.My father was a Ranger in Korea, his father was in WWI, his father fought under General Wheeler during the Spanish American War, and his father, fought under General Wheeler, against the Yankees. We have a tradition of military service, and my entire family is supporting Ron Paul.It is one thing, to be "anti-war" in theory. It is another thing, to be "anti-war" in practice. I know of no soldier, or Marine, that has seen combat, who loves war.Romney, Thompson, and McCain have lost points, because they have insulted South Carolinians, and other Southrons, on the issue of the Confederate Battle Flag. The entire dynamics of the Republican primary has changed in Dixie.

Interest in Paul for 2008 is a reminder of why so many were Perot supporters in 1992.

Watching America crumble is not a pretty sight when it can be avoided.

What the father didn't do, the son has accomplished with great fanfare - the plundering of America - with rarely a compassionate reference to the path of destruction left in his path.

Paul may not have charts but his spirit invokes the same spirit Perot did, and why so many departed for what seemed like the only hope left for recovery.

Watching America today is like watching deja vu, just 16 years later.

I thought that w3as every AMerican's wish

It is high time America become free instead of bragging and loud mouthing about it it is time to actually be free
And what do you know when freedoms on the table Americans begin to shy away from it
what does that say About Americans today
it says they are not worthy to be the boot lickers of the founding fathers thats what it says about Americans today

It's amusing to see CNN grudgingly increasing its coverage of Dr Paul's campaign. This piece actually shows some depth. Good practice for when he owns the primaries.

What I'm finding, having read this entire thread, is that the people who have an issue with Ron's positions, truly misunderstand what those positions are. And so it gives me hope that with time and a little public education our man will do well. :) What concerns me most is this tendency for some Americans to go for presentation over substance. We KNOW Ron comes across quirky. He's 2 years older than Reagan was when he was elected, but we don't care about that. The man is educated and has a plan. He's only eccentric insomuch that many Americans simply do not understand complicated issues, like central banking. The media is somehow obsessed with this idea that liking Ron Paul isn't cool, and they loathe to admit they might have been wrong.

Ah... thank you, thank you Douglas Bickford of K.Falls, Oregon. You are like a gift from God. Poor Sarah of San Diego almost had me convinced that Ron Paul supporters were capable of coherent discourse and intelligent commentary, and then along you came!

Yes Sarah, these poor souls do have a right to their opinions -- but I really don't want them influencing how our government makes its decisions, do you?

But the larger question remains: Is Mr. Paul one of them as well, or not? I'd really like to know.

Charles in Salt Lake City:

Ron Paul is actually NOT a "hard core Libertarian." He is a libertarian Republican. He was still a registered Republican when he ran under the Libertarian ticket for Presidency in 1988. It's not "extremism" he stands for so much as a return to our original standards of government.

Also, if your biggest concern about Dr. Paul is who supports him, then you should be a pretty enthusiastic supporter, yourself! Candidates have little control over their supporters. Some fringe groups have latched onto the congressman because of his "small government" ideals - no more, no less. Paul believes in terrorism, he believes that terrorists attacked us. He just doesn't believe (rightly, I think) that we can fight terrorism by ravaging the country we believe the leader of terrorists to be in.

Besides, as crazy or disrespectful as they might seem, they're exercising their Constitutional right - free speech. What right does Paul (or any of us) have to call them second-class for that? The people of America are allowed to believe whatever they want to believe. Why should Paul discount the support of honest Americans? (Yes, honest. They honestly believe they are fighting for the truth.) But anyway, long story short: both 9/11 conspiracy theorists and so called "white supremacists" have a history of believing that "Big Brother is watching." Ron Paul's message of limited government power appeals a lot to them.

Thing is, it also appeals a lot to me, and a good many others...

For the sake of clarity, I'd like to state flatly why so many of us still continue to regard Ron Paul and his movement as a "fringe" candidacy:

Ron Paul is known as being a die-hard Libertarian, of course. Nothing so much wrong with that, other than the naiveté that usually accompanies extremism in any form. Many Libertarian principles, applied appropriately, have great value – but carry them too far and you create an unrealistic isolationism that cannot survive or cope in a modern world. His approach to many issues is simply unrealistic.

But the biggest concern – and one which Mr. Paul continually refuses to respond to – is the association of his movement and support it draws from the “conspiracy theory” fringe of nuts and fruitcakes who believe that a vast global conspiracy has been in place for hundreds of years to create a “new world order” that will enslave all true “patriots”, and that 9-11 was an inside job crafted by evil “insiders” in the U.S. government for nefarious purposes of their own. Idiotic stuff, naturally – but it remains the nuts and bolts of Ron Paul’s original base of support. These “true believers” are convinced that Paul is one of them (and he well might be; he won’t say), and they delight in interpreting every statement and nuance of his to fit their own paranoid, narcissistic worldview.

– And Mr. Paul’s answer to the reality of this situation is… complete silence. He is wise enough to realize that much of the growth from followers he is now attracting would be appalled to be thought of as having any part of such nonsense, but at the same time he wants to hold on to the core of his original supporters who have to subscribe to fairy-tale conspiracies to give meaning to their existence.

Ron Paul’s followers are continually extolling his perceived qualities of forthrightness and honesty. If Ron Paul if genuinely forthright and honest, he would set the record straight regarding his true opinion regarding his conspiracy theory advocating supporters.

I really didn't appreciate how some of your pundits were so dismissive of Ron Paul after the youtube debates. One in particular when asked about Paul's viability shrugged like Paul was a flea to be flicked away. I find this behavior to be unbecoming of a journalist. The problem for Paul is the media not his message. I thought like public education the media were supposed to be the champions of justice and equal opportunity. I am a fairly liberal feminist middle class democrate and I changed my voter registration just so I could vote for Paul in my state's primary. Ron Paul is a terrific candidate for the independently minded and should get equal time and consideration.

All of your polls indicate that Ron Paul was the clear winner of the Republican Debate on 11/28/07 - why is it that you do not have a story pertaining to this information?
The polls were conducted on your site.
Would this be called CNN Corporate Censorship?

So, if Dr. Paul is so against big government and Big Brother, how come he didn't bother to vote for or against H.R. 1955. Btw, H.R. 1955 will quiet any type of revolution (peaceful or otherwise) in the United States of America forever. Google H.R. 1955 if you don’t believe me.

Posted By Buddy, San Jose, CA : November 29, 2007 7:28 pm

I do believe you, Buddy. The reason he was not in Washington to vote on this bill is because he was in New Hampshire putting his name on the ballot. Since we're looking at votes, who DID vote against this? Our old pal, Dennis Kucinich, the man who also voted against the war and against the Patriot Act. I'm sure if Dr. Paul were in Washington, he would have voted the same way. At least there are a few in the House who recognize genuine threats to our liberty for what they are. Where is this bill now?

Oh yes, in the Senate and in committee. Who sits on this committee?

Your friend and mine: Barack Obama. Hmmm, I wonder which way he will vote?

What a pathetic remark:
{ avoid any reference on Iraq )
Ron Paul has been clear about were he stands on the Iraq war and withdrawing the troops.
GET THE FACTS STRAIGHT!
Ron Paul will answer any question straight forward and tell you like it is, unlike all the other candidates that dodge questions or withdraw their remark!
Ron Paul or God help us all!

Deployed Solider, first thank you for what you are doing for your nation. Just because people don't support the war does NOT mean we don't support the soldiers.

Now that being said some clarifications of your comments:

Quote: *He also wants to abolish the National Board of Education and the National Federal Reserve, Pull out of the UN, NATO, WTO, and NAFTA, and leave the Middle East in a power vacumn.*

Yes, he wants to pull us out of those economic controlling entities, but he does not want to "leave a vacuum." What he wants to do is through trade, negotiations, etc. is to work with other nations in the Middle East (and other places) not to be the "world police" nor for the USA to be the pillar supporting such groups (like the UN). Money talks and nations listen, especially to a nation that has and spends as much as the USA does. The Federal Reserve is illegal in how it now operates and actually such a reserve was shot down three times in US history before it was formed. He believes that a Federal Board of Ed cannot properly administrate over what are local and state issues, that being schools and their financing.

Quote: *He also wants to completely scrap the American Dollar and eliminate government oversight of trade companies. Can anyone say Monopoly Market?*

Wrong again. Right now we have a monopoly and oligopoly market. Look at how the oil companies and OPEC control every aspect of pricing, how Microsoft exists as it does, how the car manufacturers work together to surpress innovation only to their wants and needs. The market will only thrive with renewed competition. And he does NOT want to scrap the dollar he wants to make it real. Right now it's paper, meaningless, nothing to back it up. There are more Euros in the world than Dollars (fact) and if the oil companies shift to Euros our economy will collapse, because that makes the Euro piece of paper worth more than the Dollar piece of paper because there are more in circulation and existence. But if you back the Dollar again with Gold, Silver, and Platinum you'll have something tangible that every nation will work with, trade in, and want to actually HAVE.

Quote: *So go ahead, vote for an isolationist maniac who wants to ruin our markets with his crazed 'gold standard' ideals.*

He isn't an isolationist at all. He wants to work with through trade and treaties other nations on a one-to-one basis. Not make false alliances or support economic means that would damage the USA.

Quote: *But don't press your false advertising and inane ideology on me.*

Nobody is doing anything, you can most definitely vote for whom you want. I would give Ron Paul another look and think about what's being said.

John McCain has been quoted as saying that Ron Paul is "the only honest man in Washington" prior to McCain's decision to campaign for the presidency. Dr. Paul's rising popularity is a reflection of the will of Americans. Big government has got to go. It's time to get back to the basics of taking care of America and her Constitution. By the way, Ron Paul is a Republican.

Someone above made a very important
point that Ron Paul has not addressed,
and that his semi-hypocritical stance
on personal freedom and yet his belief
of anti-abortion law on a federal
level.

Why is this?

And lets not forget Ron Paul has had
his finger in with the religious right
in the past.He has been cozy with
super-creep Pat Robertson and the
Talibanesque Christian Coalition.
A VERY un-Libertarian bunch..
That smacks of hypocricy as well..
I cant get my head around these
points, and I have yet to see him
address them.So I cant support him.

I would be behind the fairtax, since it is basically a form of negative income tax first expounded by Milton Friedman. But, it does not eliminate the 16th amendment, it calls for it to be abolished. Unless we abolish the 16th amendment first, we will end up with both a fairtax and an income tax. Once the 16th amendment is abolished with another amendment to the Constitution, I would be interested in a fairtax. Until then, it is suicide.

Dear fellow Ron Paul supporters:

Please, for the love of God, stop seeing bias in every single story. It certainly exists, and I do believe it was very evident in the debate last night. However, there's nothing wrong with this blog entry. Please, choose your battles.

Ron Paul is a isolationist that wants to stick his head in the sand and pretend that challenges from enemies overseas are not to be addressed. The present administration has made many mistakes, as in any war, but at least he is willing to throw down the gauntlet and stare islamofacism in the eye. Ignoring a problem doesn't make it dissappear.

Nothing is more infuriating than the conventional media's poor coverage of Ron Paul. They seem to mock him or ignore him - as though they are afraid that if they displayed him in a serious light that his already skyrocketing campaign will eclipse all other candidates.

So, if Dr. Paul is so against big government and Big Brother, how come he didn't bother to vote for or against H.R. 1955. Btw, H.R. 1955 will quiet any type of revolution (peaceful or otherwise) in the United States of America forever. Google H.R. 1955 if you don’t believe me.

How to setup a dictatorship

The following steps have been used by every despot since (at least) Mussolini:

1. Invoke a terrifying internal and external enemy
2. Create a gulag
3. Develop a thug caste
4. Set up an internal surveillance system
5. Harass citizens' groups
6. Engage in arbitrary detention and release
7. Target key individuals
8. Control the press
9. Dissent equals treason
10. Suspend the rule of law

Seem familiar to anyone?

Check out Naomi Wolf on YouTube. Interesting, if not worrisome stuff.

This is merely another revelation of the dwindling credibility of the MSM. They can't control how we spend our money, which is why Ron Paul already has over $9.8 million for the 4thQuarter, and another month still to go.

And if our donations to Paul have you scared, just wait til we VOTE.

Finally a moderately fair piece on Ron Paul. Too bad you ruined it with that last line about avoiding his stance on Iraq. However, you're doing better CNN. Keep it up and I might not think you completely biased against the "second-tier" candidates.

Ron Paul is a true "up and comer" with a growing following. I could support him if only he'd come out strongly in support of the FAIR TAX. It's very apparent that the citizens of the USA are tired of the old guard. It's time for true conservative/constitutional governance

Hey Ross, Ron Paul supports the fairest tax of all: 0! Nothing! By bringing the troops home, not just from Iraq but from dozens of countries all over the world where they have no business being, the US would save billions of dollars and get us back to the spending levels 6 years ago. Ending the war and stopping this empire from expanding will bring more dollars back to the US, and allow us to spend more on domestic issues and not tax the people. Abolishing the IRS and its huge bureaucracy, along with the Dept. of Homeland Security and plenty of other bloated government agencies will save even MORE money. The income tax isn't necessary if we don't spend money like it's water and then print money out of thin air! So you see, Dr. Paul supports a much fairer system than even the FairTax, fair for US citizens and for the foreign countries which we invade and maintain a military presence to this day.

Just wait until the Tea Party moneybomb coming up on December 16th.

Ron Paul supporters made history on Nov 5th by raising over $4mil in one single day.

They will beat their own record on December 16th. I predict that at least $5mil will be raised on that day alone for Ron Paul.

After watching Hubert Humphrey and Richard Daly stand on the stage at the 1968 Democratic Convention and laugh at the live footage of the beatings by the police of anyone who happened to be in the Chicago streets, I voted in my first presidential election for Richard Nixon, since I couldn’t support George Wallace. As a Vietnam veteran, I never regretted anything more. I was not then nor am I now a Republican. My political opinions have changed over the years, and I have become a Libertarian. Right now I think that the only believable people in this campaign are Dennis Kucinich and Ron Paul, two people that have a vast difference in their beliefs regarding the functions of government, but both have consistently opposed all the Iraq resolutions and bills from the very beginning, and both seem to be very aware that we need major changes in our government, not just another administration that will do the same old things. Unfortunately, the mainstream media which have a massive influence on the views of most Americans aren’t interested in either candidate. Since I’m from Pennsylvania, I will have no say in the primaries because everything will be long decided before we vote in April. But I’ll support Ron Paul for President. If he is not the Republican choice, I will write him in during the general election and may very well write in Dennis Kucinich as Vice President. I twice voted for Ross Perot and wonder where he has gone. It would be very novel to have an administration that could include people who actually understand economics such as Paul, Kucinich, Perot and Ralph Nader. It would certainly be a very unusual mix of personalities, but this is the sort of drastic change that is required in my opinion. Call me crazy if you like…..

Sorry, my fellow Paul supporters, but Mr. Hamby is correct in pointing out that the mailers don't mention Iraq. Either they do or they don't, and they don't, so reporting on that IS just that - reporting. Lay off and focus your attention on the ignorant masses who still believe the Dr. is racist.

Surrealist wrote, "No matter how right you are on the War in Iraq–we've already committed too life/blood to thanks to Bush to walk away from it–we must achieve "some kind of lasting results" to justify the blood spilled in the streets of Iraq."

Won't you just love your doctor telling you that he made the wrong diagnosis, but "we've already spent too much money on the treatment, so we'll just have to continue?" In doing so he bankrupts your estate and burdens your children with debt, which destroys their American dreams. Ron Paul receives more money from the military than any other candidate. The troops want to come home.

Ron Paul made the right diagnosis from day one. Not because he is a smart doctor, but because he followed the Constitution and the advice of the Founding Fathers. George Bush followed the advice of the military-industrial complex. “Surrealist,” I think not long now and you will change your name to “Realist.”

CNN has really started to dissappoint me in recent months. First, right after the most recent senatorial race, there was the correspondant who commented on Tennessee's election of Bob Corker "I guess Tennesee wasn't ready for a black senator". Harold Ford, Jr.'s race had nothing to do with him loosing. I don't live in Tennesee, but live close enough to where I was glued to this past election. So, I didn't vote for either candidate.
Now, they are just smearing Ron Paul. First of all, Paul may have libertarian bents, but he IS a REPUBLICAN. As he pointed last night in the debate, he has won on the Republican ticket in Texas for 10 terms.
Secondly, anyone can google Ron Paul and discover that he is all for getting the troops out of Iraq. The "protection and peace without nation bulding" line points to this. It does not say it explicitly, but it's not like he hides his feelings on the war in Iraq. I would hope that people don't make a decision just based on one or two pieces of mail. I would hope that the mail would push them to research that candidate.
Please do fair reporting, CNN. This is starting to make me sick.
