I like the way Clinton supporters cite old polls to show that she's back on track. The Nation has the goods http://www.thenation.com/blogs/campaignmatters?bid=45&pid=256629
Excerpt "Unfortunately for Clinton, the most current polling data has Obama in front.

The Clinton campaign cites two polls in its release: An AP-Pew survey that has the New York senator leading Obama by 5 points, and an Iowa State poll showing her ahead of former North Carolina Senator John Edwards by 7 points and Obama by 10 points.

That would seem to counter the Sunday Des Moines Register data that has Obama with 29 percent to Clinton's 25 percent.

There's just one problem: Despite the fact that the Clinton campaign's release came out the day after the Register published its poll results, the AP-Pew and the Iowa State surveys were largely conducted before the newspaper even began its questioning of likely caucus goers.

The AP/Pew poll was in the field over several weeks, from November 7 to November 25. That means it contains some responses that are almost a month old. The Iowa State poll was conducted from November 6 to November 18, meaning that all of its data is older than that contained in the Register poll."

Like some one else already said, with information as readily available as it is today, the old style of campaign tricks just don't work anymore.

If so, Hillary has a bigger one: it's called "Bill".

Regarding the whole when-did-he-want-to-be-president issue, this IS silly. ALL of these candidates probably have wanted to run for president for almost as long as they can remember. That's what one would expect! The problem Obama has is that he and his staff tried to make an issue of this with Hillary. They wanted to show that Hillary has wanted to be president forever, therefore, she is only driven by ambition and not cause. The fact is, they are ALL driven (by a certain extent by ambition), including Obama. He clearly was looking at a presidential path in law school and during his time in the Illinois Senate. To bring up his days in Kindergarten is SILLY, but the ENTIRE conversation is silly. It should never have been used against Hillary, not it is coming back to haunt him. Ambition should not be a disqualifier for any of these candidates. If Obama wants the issue to go away, just stop responding to the criticism, and STOP making ambition an issue with reference to Hillary. Both sides shoud stick to the ISSUES, experience, and ability to lead. Period.

I'm sorry, did we all forget that Obama's entire campaign has gone something like, "Change, change, change, HATE HILLARY!, change, blah, blah, etc."? Perhaps the Obama campaign could spend less time updating a Web site detailing Clinton's "attacks" and more time on explaining what it is he might actually DO if elected president. So what if Clinton thinks it's fun to fight back (and defeat) those who have attacked her? It's about time we stopped holding her to a different standard simply because she's a woman who decided to stand up for herself and her record.

After all of the media uproar and the premature celebration of the extreme left on behalf of Barack Obama’s short-lived three or four point lead in Iowa, you’d think Clinton would at least get front-page coverage for the recent AP-Pew telephone poll results showing her now five points ahead.

The coverage of her success is much more muted than that of Obama, the darling of the extreme left – no screaming headlines for Clinton on the front page of the Huffington Post or other MSM. But here’s the score from the new AP-Pew poll for Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina:

Iowa:
Clinton 31
Obama…26
Edwards 19

New Hampshire
Clinton 38
Obama 19
Edwards 15

South Carolina
Clinton 45
Obama 18
Edwards 10

That's right - she's not leading Santa's sleigh anymore - and she's got to be stressed/fearful/angry about that.

Obama's campaign is smart to institute a Hillary mud-slinging registry - because's she going to be slinging it fast and furious.

Hillary has the following ADVANTAGES over other dem candidates, per the AP poll of Iowa (5 pts), NH (19 pts) & SC (14 pts), released this morning (dec 3/07):

1) HEALTH CARE - People consider Hillary beating Obama in handling Health care. On health care, no rival approaches the support Clinton wins from party voters. The 41 percent in Iowa who say she would best improve the country's medical system is double the support for Obama and Edwards, and she boasts even wider leads in New Hampshire and South Carolina.

2) IRAQ WAR - Hillary has double-digit leads over Obama and Edwards in Iowa and New Hampshire when Democrats are asked which candidate would make the wisest decisions about the war.

3) OTHER ISSUES – Hillary leads in all other issues that concern the dem voters. Obama and Edwards haven't taken title to any issues with party voters in the three states, the poll shows, though Obama is close to Clinton on immigration and job creation but the latters are of least importance to the dems voters.

4) CRUCIAL GROUPS SUPPORT - Hillary has amassed strong support among crucial groups including female, older, less-educated and lower-income Democrats _ significant because women and older voters in particular have dominated these primaries and caucuses in the past. Clinton draws the support of nearly half of women in New Hampshire and South Carolina.

5) DEALING WITH OPPOSITON - Hillary knows how to deal with the opposition.

6) BLACK & WHITE SUPPORT - Even among blacks who comprise about half of Democratic primary voters in South Carolina, Obama does no better than break even with Clinton. She offsets that by leading him by three-to-one among the state's whites. There are few black voters in Iowa or New Hampshire.

7) ELECTABILITY - Democrats in each state overwhelmingly call Clinton the Democrat with the best chance of winning the White House.

Class dismissed.

After reading your statements it is obvious why racism is alive and well today.

Good research, very informative.

Obama is a liar. Plain and simple. He is so full of it. Un-f'ing-believable!

Prove it. One example. Oh, hell, never mind, go back and drink some more Koolaid.

Fact is–if he can't supervise his campaign staff–how is he going to manage his Cabinet?

So what you're saying is that Hillary did know about planted questions and packing the audience at debates (just to mention a couple of instances), cuz if she didn't, well, see your above quote.
Well, it just goes to show that Hillary supporters have one thing in common with their candidate, just ignore the facts and say what you think people want to hear. They accuse Obama of being guilty (with no evidence to substantiate) of the things that Hillary does and has been proven to do.
Come February 5th (Super Tuesday)it will all be over and they can go home and drink some more Koolaid. Cuz by then we will know who the nominees are. The conventions are just a formality.

It would be very simple for Hillary and her campaign to talk very nice about Obama and how he's the future of the party...almost like a well liked little brother.

By attacking him they now seem like the younger sibling trying to get out of big brother's shadow.

This politics stuff is fun and these blogs are even better. I wish I could see some of your faces while you're typing! LOL!

Obama is not such a nice guy after all, as so many of us suspected all along. Not only is he vapid and unsubstantive, he tends to exaggerate any positive traits he possesses. He is now playing with the big girls and boys and he has yet to master anything.

The presidency is not Chicago local politics and he needs to spend some time training for the office he is seeking. Another 16 years in the Senate would be about right.

Hillary is the only serious candidate and the only only who can wipe the floor with any Republican, including self professed bad boy Giuyliani.

Go, Hillary!!

I'm sorry, did I just see someone post the words "get down to the truth of any story via the Internet"? Is that really where all you folks are getting your information and deciding who gets your vote? Lazy. But it does explain most of the insanity spewing from you. Stay home on election day please.

Once upon a time I though Obama was a good canidate and I was looking forward to the election. While I do not believe that he will receive the nomination I thought he would be a very good choice for the VP.

However my opinion has changed as I have listened to Senator Obama, as he dumbs down his speeches to the crowd, as he generates attacks upon his rivals, not their policies but their chartacter. He has made this a sleezy campaign, perhaps that is because he has nothing himself to stand upon. What I do know, is their is one canidate that I shall never cast a vote for.

Clinton really believes that if you repeat lies enough and get reporters to repeat them enough, then they become the truth. This is exactly what Rove and Bush have been doing for the past 7 years.

I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore. Point by point, Obama refutes everything Clinton is saying.

Right now the goal is to win Iowa. Iowans already know Clinton is lying.

I don't like Hillary's questioning of Obama's character (I'd rather see candidates question policy, experience, etc.), however, HELLO, Obama supporters, what has Obama been saying about Hillary for the past couple of months?? Take a look. These are ALL character attacks, so please, please don't tell me that Obama has been criticizing only issues.

Sen. Obama called Hillary 'disingenuous.' Sen. Obama: [Newsweek, 11/12/07]
Sen. Obama told reporters to ask Hillary 'the difference between disingenuous and dishonest.' Q: “What's the difference between disingenuous and dishonest?” Obama: “You'll have to ask her.” [Newsweek, 11/3/07]

Sen. Obama said Hillary has not 'been truthful to voters about what she would do as president. NYT: “Has she been truthful to voters about what she would do as president?” Obama: “No.” [New York Times, 10/27/07

Sen. Obama said Hillary is only about 'winning elections,' isn't concerned about 'solving problems,' lacks 'principles.' [Washington Times, 11/8/07]

Sen. Obama said Hillary doesn't stand for anything. [AP, 11/7/07]

There is a new AP Poll out today that has Clinton 31 to Obama's 26 in IA. I'm sure she was tipped of the poll and not "stressed" as Obama put it. Is anyone else offended at the assertion that a woman candidate running for president can become easily stressed over a poll? When Obambie was down, it was he was worried, when it's a woman, it's that she's stressed. Thanks for playing the gender card Obambie.

Oh..it's not that ridiculous. Federal law requires an accounting of individual donations, PAC's, group donations, and also records of disbursement. If his supervision of his campaign team is half as crappy as most of us predict--he could have some real problems accounting for individual vs group donations and distribution of those resources. Fact is--if he can't supervise his campaign staff--how is he going to manage his Cabinet?

I'm an independent and I've pretty much decided I'm voting Obama in 08. I yelped in delight when he finally expressed what I've been saying for months everytime Hillary Clinton has tried to tout her years in the White House as experience that qualifies her for the Oval Office. Barack said, "I think Warren Christopher and Madeline Albright would be interested to find that Hillary was the face of foreign policy during the Clinton years."

Her only experience was the 1994 health care debacle, an experience I wouldn't be too proud of. And to those who blame the Republicans for bringing down her health care plan, the Republican majority wasn't inaugurated until January, 1995. So her plan suffered its rightful demise at the hands of their own Democratic majority.

You comments are typical Hillary supporter B.S.! The American public is tired of but yet entralled with personal attacks. The Hillary campagin should stick to what it is best at, bashing Bush. For the Hillary campaign to start slinging accusations at Obama about misuse of PAC funding is a double-egde sword. If you really start digging into Hillary's political funding, just in her senatorial years, you will be astonished and see the hypocrisy of her rhetoric.

It is amazing that the Hillary campaign has run against Obama claiming her strength and experience is superior to his, yet Obama has spent more years in public-elected office than Hillary.

Obama is more accomplished than Hillary in the area of elected office. You only need to look at her public record as NY senator. Not to mention her only public accomplishment was to not get universal healthcare passed in the early 1990s when BILL appointed HER to lead this effort!

Who cares what your color is? You probably believe that Hillary was being the noble and sincere wife to remain married to Bill Clinton (aka Slick Willie)after numerous affairs, not realizing her true purpose was to run for President using Bill Clinton's continued popularity.

Obama in '08!

Clinton is simply distorting the truth rather than arguing about policy.

Obama, Edwards, Biden, Richardson, Kucinich, Gravel, and Dodd stuck to the truth when they criticized Clinton's poor judgment in voting for the Iraq war and Kyl-Lieberman.

She voted for Iraq even when her husband, Bill Clinton, was against the war from the beginning! She didn't even trust his good judgment over her own very bad judgment.

What good is having Bill Clinton in the White House again when she didn't even follow Bill Clinton's advice when she was in the Senate.

Note to Hillary:

The time is 2007 and can find the truth faster than you can spin it. We need someone that can fight the Republicans with fact and strength and wisdom, not street fight and name calling. Time to grow up and play straight, and Tell Bill he hurts more than he helps. You need to walk alone before you can even try to us him. and I have got news for you, he is not all the mainstream media plays him as.

Tell us what you are going to do and not what the other guy did, we already know.

why is it that its OK for Obama to attack Hillary but not OK for her to attack. There is a serious double standard here from the bloggers and the media. Obama has absolutely zero accomplishments, he acts like he doesnt know what hes talking about in debates and is a shrill of a person. The only thing he's good at is apparently being a smart-a!@. By the way, Im black too, not that it matters, but I wouldnt trust this guy to sell me a used car.

The Clinton campaign sounds like it is desperate and grasping at straws for suggesting that Obama's statement in grade school that he wanted to be president is somehow contradictory to his statements that he didn't come to the senate to seek the presidency.

First off how many of us stated in grade school that we wanted to president or a stunt man or super hero for that matter. I don't think any thinking american places too much emphasis on the career goals of a grade school student.

Secondly, we all know that Hillary moved to NY and ran for the senate simply so she could run for president. She has no interest in helping NY beyond how it could help her in a run for president.

Hillary is descending into the part of American politics that the people are sick of and if she wants to retain the shrinking support she has she would be wise to stop the mud slinging and baseless, paranoid personal attacks aimed at Obama

Hillary is really getting pretty desperate. Why doesn't her campaign focus on running a positive campaign and highlight her take on the issues?

Hillary is really ending her chances by acting like this.

Why Obama just denies? Why he does not EXPLAIN?

The fact is Obama is young and inexperienced! Jusr fluff, no substance. A big flip-floppers.

Obama thinks that he has lots of support from blogs and media. The truth is that those are from the republicans. These republicans want him to win the nomination and help him to trash Hillary, and then beat him down during the election! Obama has no chance to win the next election!

The attacks from the republicans will tear Obama into pieces. Guaranteed.

Hillary beats him in getting women votes, black votes, minority votes....

Hillary has endured and persevered for past 16 years against the right wing republicans. Time and time again, Hillary has proven herself as a survivor and winner.

Most democrats know Hillary IS THE ONLY ONE to get elected, and she will get the nomination.

Hillary 08!

Two things today: Senator Hillary Clinton began her campaign stating she would not personally criticize fellow Democratic party candidates. Her leading opponents did just the opposite, lambasting her personally. When she answers her foes by standing up to them, she gets critized for being so mean-spirited and overcome by "stress." This last, not surprisingly, is championed by Obama and his camp.

What this says is that Obama is in favor of continuing in the same vein as the "swiftboaters" and partisan politics in general. This is so unlike the person who began his campaign, and it's hard to believe this personal-destruction trait of his will get him elected. His talk about representing "change" in Washington leadership has done a 360 turn from his original message. He should know that his tactics are seen only as continuing the status quo in partisan politics, and his message is probably by now, hopelessly lost.

Hillary, by far, is the most qualified, dignified and experienced in the qualities needed to bring about real change in leadership as president. Somehow Obama, no matter how well he "speaks," has now lost his way, and the good folks in Iowa and New Hampshire will respond to this in the weeks to come.

Obama has won me over. He does have the talent and judgment we need.

I'm not against Clinton. Obama is just so much better it isn't even close. On health care, his plan is much more likely to win support and it will cover the people who currently can't afford health insurance.

On national security, he understands we need to talk with the rest of the world and lead by example rather than threaten people to do what we want or else.

On issue after issue he has laid out detailed plans for everyone to study (see his campaign web site). Everyone knows what his policies will be and what he would do as president. That is why people are turning to him and away from those who claim experience, but don't show any benefit from having had it.

On ethics reform, he is a leader. Clinton is shooting herself in the foot here. Amazing.

Yes, Senator Clinton is attacking Obama for the wrong stuff, we all should too. What is wrong is wrong-even Obama supporters should agree.

Also, wasn't it Obama who claimed that he would run a non-attack, non-dirty campaign. Seems like he's the one who started this, and no one can see that, but now that Senator Clinton's campaign has started unvieling some of the Obama bs, everyone's claiming Clinton to not keep the promise. Can I ask everyone to treat all candidates fairly. If not then, Obama takes the blame for starting the attack politics amongst the Democrats this season. Before you all know, Obama will be the most manipulative politician of the 21st century. All his talk is just talk, he does not follow what he preaches.

I certainly don't think so, I am sure American voters are smarter than Obama.

First off, I admit I am a conservative who is enjoying this volley back and forth between these two.

But from someone who is not voting for either of these two (but if I had to, it would be for Obama hands down), it is funny how she is now FORCED to change her campaigns direction from running against Bush (who isn't running) to having to FINALLY answer to FELLOW DEMOCRATS.

For her to mahe an issue with someones campaign finances is funny as hell as she can't even keep her campaign clean from the USUAL funny YEN.

I have made the point for weeks that she and Billyboy still think that it is the 90's and they can LIE (I was always against the Iraq war etc, etc) and nobody will notice, but with the explosion of the blogosphere and the information available, they are "having difficulties" talking out of both sides of their mouths.

It would be better for me if she WON the nomination as she has much dirt on her, it would be a breeze, but Obama is a much different story, he actually has character and FRESH IDEAS.
