iReachable opinion poll is also designed to let poll takers attach demographic affinity to their vote. This gives chance to voters drawn by commonality (race, age etc) to see results within their group. Pls check out:

http://www.ireachable.com/vote

This being an open-to-all opinion poll it can provide representative results if enough voters take the poll from all states and from all or as many groups of voters

Please rush if you have not take this poll as the primary is approaching. The poll is simple and quick

The GOP has been the most hawkish on clamping down on ILLEGAL immigrants, and now they're losing the Hispanic vote.
coincidence?
I gurantee you that there are Democrat party operatives in California trying to figure out how to get illegals to vote next November!

What part of illegal don't people get? What laws should I consider breaking (since the federal government seems to be OK with breaking laws)? I'd really like to know- is it JUST the immigration law that's OK to break, or can people get away with anything else in this country without consequences?

Sixty-six years ago, today, Americans began turning their racial and ethnic animus towards immigrants of Japanese descent. As abominable as that was, at least there was a discernible reason for it.

But the current explosion of xenophobia is genuinely baffling. If it were directed solely at those whose background is Islamic, you could call it a reaction to 9/11. But that excuse just doesn't wash here, especially given the frequency with which first and second generation Hispanic Americans join the police, fire, and military services. And every serious study of the subject concludes that immigration across our southern border is a net positive for the United States.

I hesitate to assign causality for so complex a social pattern to any single factor. But Hispanics might be forgiven if they show less analytical restraint. And they appear to be arriving at the conclusion that the cause of the unwelcoming environment they live in is Republican race-baiting.

I would like to see them do a poll of all legal hispanics that have been here for a while.

I bet those numbers would be a lot closer than what is being portrayed here.

Many legal hispanics tend to be more conservative in their beliefs and they like the lower and middle classes GET SCREWED when they have to compete with ILLEGAL immigrants for jobs.

I'll write this slow so some of you can read it, Republicans are for LEGAL immigration, but are against ILLEGAL immigration.

Michael from Atlanta is totally correct in his posting as I saw the same story.

Don't devour what the biased MSM feeds you.

I'd like to point out a few false arguments that have been made in the comments. First, the majority of Americans right now favor the Democratic Party. Second, quit saying that the Democratic Party just wants to throw money at every problem. Let's not forget that there was a surplus under Clinton, and under Bush and a GOP controlled congress we racked up the largest deficit in history.
Third, for the Republicans who are saying Democrats want to just let anyone through the borders, it was your President that just completely gutted the border security budget. The USA will not check one single shipping crate that comes to our shores this year.
Fourth, please remember the mistakes of our past. America has never had success when reacting in fear to a situation. Vietnam was based on the fear of Communism. Iraq over the fear of terrorism. We can come up with solutions that actually account for more than just the white male perspective. (BTW, I am a white male.) These solutions are the ones that create a lasting peace.
Lastly, the most shameful stain on America is racism. This country was founded on it, and we still can't shake it. All of these comments are based hispanic immigrants, no one seems to care about illegal immigrants from Eastern Europe who are white. Have we not learned lessons from our past mistakes? God created ALL men (women too) equal. That is the fundamental idea that this country was founded on, let's try to live up to the vision of our predecessors.
Immigration is a difficult issue to solve to be sure, with many arguments to be made from both sides. Let's not spend out time fighting each other, but instead come together as human beings to find a solution that works for everyone (not just you or me).

That's because the democrats just throw money at the problem. Everything can be fixed with money. Of course that's tax payer money. Hard working legal citizens of all color and race are paying into social programs that benefit illegal immigrants, most of whom are hispanic. Come to America. We'll throw money at you.

I find it ironic that the democrats cry and moan about the plight of the middle class and at the same time want to spend more and more tax dollars for programs that do not benefit the middle class in any way. $5,000 for any new child? Where does that money come from? Yours and my pockets that's where. Mandate you purchase health care that you can't afford to begin with? Exactly how does that solve the problem?

There is a part of me that would really like to see Hillary get into office just so the democrats can see exactly what her programs will do for the middle class. Nothing but make your financial situation worse by increasing your taxes. Ask any economist. She has grand plans but says nothing about how she plans to pay for them.

Be very careful what you wish for. It may cost you dearly.

In reading all the comments, it was obvious to me that most people are only concerned with using their respective parties' rhetoric. I say it's time to find a solution to the immigration issue instead of sitting around arguing about it. Because we are in a time of war, we do need more security on BOTH our southern and NORTHERN borders. The prospect of a terrorist bringing dangerous materials into this country in order to make a bomb is something that lawmakers need to consider when they start spouting off their political rhetoric. We do not need to sacrifice our security so that some political candidate can get more votes on election day. WAKE UP AMERICA! YOUR SOVEREIGNTY IS UNDER THREAT!

Comparing immigrants looking for work to terrorists is deplorable. One of the only things W. tried to do that was commendable was the guest worker program he tried to pass through. Instead his own party and many Democrats blocked his efforts as they gave in to the often irrational concerns of fear mongers who think it’s actually possible to police 2,000+ miles between the U.S. and Mexico effectively. Whole industries are reliant on these immigrants and the citizen’s families that migrate here, because U.S. citizens refuse to work those jobs and suffer from a sense of entitlement.

The Republican candidates have made it quite clear that they have little interest in courting votes outside of fundamentalist christians, people only interested in getting another useless tax break or fear mongers. Guiliani’s whole campaign is based off of 9/11, McCain is trying to sell himself as a fiscal conservative despite his support of the rampant spending the former GOP Congress and Bush did, Romney will say anything and Huckabee is more concerned that kids throw out their text books in favor of the Bible. In no way are they addressing marginalized or regular people, instead they’re playing to loud reactionaries or to fear.

Not that the Democrats may fair better as both Edwards and Clinton are riddled with contradictions and Obama is still untested. However, at least they are looking at possible solutions and aren’t going to compare someone looking for work to a religious zealot trying to bomb our oil refineries.

In response to Simon in Denver:

Do me a favor. Move to a border state such as California or Arizona and then tell me the fear is not real. Drive by the gas stations and home improvement store and see the over 100 migrant workers standing around while tossing trash in the street and getting drunk. Go to the public schools and see how the teachers have to photocopy text books due to the overcrowding. Go to the local emergency room and watch as you are required to provide insurance and identification, while others breeze in and get "free healthcare". Go to the backyards of American citizens and see the holes either kicked in or dug in their yards so illegals can enter. Go to your local welfare office and see the majority of people waiting in line can't even speak English. The Los Angeles police department released findings in 2005 that said 95% of the outstanding warrants were for illegal immigrants. And yes while I agree the term "hispanic" does not equate to illegal immigrant, when you live in a border state the majority of illegal immigrants are from Mexico. I know that isn't a very politically correct statement but its the truth. And the public you mention that "saw through the fear-mongering", yeah I guess that is why 75% of New Yorkers polled opposed the drivers licenses and the majority of Americans, both Republican and Democrat, time and time again have voiced their opposition to illegal immigration.

Could it be that the only one I've heard speaking Spanish is Chris Dodd? I believe that Bill Richardson also speaks it fluently. I believe that Democrats have made some policy decisions that Hispanics generally favor. It could be that many more of the Spanish speaking community are poor and don't have the money to hire lobbiest to fight on their behalf. Many of the Hispanic community also need various forms of assistance that Republicans are in favor of eliminating completely.

I tend to favor the Democrats on principle, but for this entire election cycle, as a party, they have engaged in the lowest cheapest form of pandering towards illegal immigrants, specifically Hispanic illegals, that I've seen in a generation. Its really quite simple, they want to inflate the number of near poverty voters to win elections, at the direct expensive of the legal Amercican working, and lower-middle class, lets face it people this problem is sytematically destroying our hospitals, schools, and welfare system; services that are the right of LEGAL AMERICAN citzens, WE PAY FOR IT, THEY DO NOT.

Oh give me a break with your republican propaganda. The fear of another attack does not come from our borders. If a terrorist really wants to come in, he or she will. Maybe the oil districts should be better taken care of other than using all of our resources to protect our borders and in Iraq.

Aaron - is your real name Karl? Sounds like a page out of Rove's playbook. Come on, get real, the fear card has been played, played again, and played yet again, many times by the GOP to foster their hold on power. Thank god that the American public finally saw through the fear-mongering of people like Rove, Tancredo and you.

Interesting,

Just this week I was hearing how legal hispanics were registering with the republican party and it was upsetting the democrat volunteers. They like to hang out after naturalization ceremonies and try and grab voters, but they are finding that most people who come here legally are angry over the illegal aliens.

The term Hispanic does not equal illegal immigrant. Most Hispanics in the US are here legally and have been for several generations. Did your ancestors come to America legally? Mine have been here 3 generations and I'm not so sure, based on the stories they tell. Have you thought about the consequences of this for your own lifesyle and wallet? Are you as ready to pay more for your house, eating out, cleaning, nursing assistants and all the other jobs that recent immigrants do on the cheap (that others don't want to do) as you are to get rid of this cheaper labor?

This issue is dead at least to me. My thinking is that I do not care who comes to my coutry; we are still a beacon of hope and happiness and we should not deny anyone that. I only wish the ones that came ILLEGAL, would just follow the rules. Yes, we are ALL immigrates, but most of us came LEGAL, which is all that I ask. For you GOP types, to bad we can't close our boarders forever huh? I know you guys would love that, only YOU are entilted to what this country has to offer......typical GOP thinking.
I can't believe what I'm reading!! Like the GOP is trying to gain the Hispanic vote? Let's not forget Mr. Bush's addresses in english/spanglish. How his brother courted the Dade County hispanic conservatives--the Cuban money machine that got him elected in Florida. Everyone is after the hispanic vote--from all parties. There are millions of hispanic Americans here legally--without any ties to Mexican border crossers. The absurdity that somehow ALL hispanics want to ignore the border situation is untrue. Some of the most conservative voices on the issue of border security are coming from hispanics. However, the hateful rhetoric, rudderless gunslinger attitudes, and lack of a "clear plan" that is inclusive of our economic needs--and the families involved--has turned hispanics away from the GOP. They want a President and Congress that will not only provide better border security--but handle the situation of millions of illegal aliens, and their children in a manner that recognizes their benefits and contributions to our economy and society--and provides opportunity rather than a large hammer. Bravo to the Democratic candidates and the Democratic Congress. Finally, we may find a way to regain our borders with "conservative compassion"--which is the American way.

It appears that some would view the fall and destruction of the United States of America as being compassionate.

Get. A. Clue. people - our nation isn't a mammoth, unlimited teat upon which we can encourage people to come here illegally and suckle upon!

Wow...How racist can the comments on this article be??? Not every Hispanic is from Mexico people...I bet most of the people on here bashing Hispanics can't even point out where Puerto Rico is on a map, the very same Puerto Rico that the majority of you don't even know is a part of the United States...

Get a clue people...there is no room for racism in America!

Today: A New York State lawmaker, Assembly Health Committee chairman Richard Gottfried, proposed that New York create a $59 billion health insurance program to cover everyone in the state and likely be paid for through a huge tax hike.

The Manhattan Democrat offered no suggestions on how to pay for the plan, which would give New York the country's largest state-run health program.

Considering the high number of Hispanics in NYS, that means every man, woman or child living in NYS would have to pay over $3,000.00.

There are approximately 3,000,000 Hispanics living in NYS (16.1% of 19,306,183 residents with 8,624,000 registered voters), so that means of the 791,424 of the 1,388,464 Hispanics will be voting for the Democrats according to this POLL.

791,424 voters will be deciding on whether or not I will pay more than $3,000.00 more, for every person in my family, in taxes if this plan goes into effect!

That is more per person for this Mandatory Health Insurance Plan than I pay yearly for the Property taxes for my home!

La gente, no hace por favor esto. ¿Por qué usted desea confundir mi dinero? ¡Le estoy pidiendo!

Why sure if I were hispanic or any minority in America I would like the dems in also. So far the Democrats are against something as simple as making the English Language Manditory. That was part of Teddy Rosevelts assimilate message.
In 1919 Teddy Rosevelt said it best. Come in Fine. However assimilate/ learn the language/ And be part of the common good. Teddy did not want any one to be a special interest with special privilages. Work up the ladder just like the Majority has to do. Just a plain tax paying American Citizen or go back to where you come from. So come in join up with your fellow Americans and don't expect more from our goverment than all the rest of us get. Your welcome here if you play by the rules we have in place. You fit in great if you speak English and the Majority can understand you. This has been know for a long time.
Thank You

Oh boy! Another SAMPLE gets to make a mark here!

The survey was conducted October 3 through November 9, and involved phone interviews with 2,003 randomly chosen Hispanics

Randomly chosen Hispanics? HAHA, I bet it was on the basis of NAMES in a PHONE BOOK! Isn't that a bit of a bias? Or did they stand on the corner of Glendora Ave. and Temple Ave. in the City of Industry in Los Angeles?

Oh yeah, one more thing: FYI! "The group also estimated that Hispanics could affect the outcome in four states..." Did you mean AFFECT (to make a display of liking or using; cultivate; to put on a pretense of) or EFFECT (to cause to come into being; to bring about often by surmounting obstacles; accomplish: to put into operation)? Come on guys, show us your intelligence! You've been Busted!

Why is it when immigration is the subject, only Hispanics are discussed? The threat to America is not from the Hispanic community but from the cancer of racism! People in the USA are here from every corner of globe, and I'd say not all swam across the Rio Grande. Go to Chinatowns in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Seattle, and other big cities; try Miami, Chicago, and don't forget Clinton Country. The Hispanics in my circle have fought and died for this country and are more loyal and better patriots than "citizens" born and raised here. When's the last time you read a headline of some radical Hispanic group blowing up something in Europe or the Middle East?

Everything Obama promises has no past or present proof that he accomplished any. While Guliani and Romney have governed States/Super Cities, Obama's only project has been a neighborhood community in Chicago.

Clinton is focssung on issues for America such as the mortgage crisis. Excellent. Thanks Hillary for talking issues that matter to America wearing your own skirt unlike Obama who is hiding under Oprah's skirt. Talking issues that matter is the reason Clinton will be elected. Hillary cares more about America than simply winning.

Democrats will regret the next 4 years if they elect Obama to stand against Guliani or Romney. These 2 Republicans have resumes that only Clinton's and all other Democratic candidates except Obama's can withstand. Guiliani and Romney will will hit Obama with a type of experience that he will not resist.

Some Democrats simply want to see Obama beat Clinton for the wrong reasons. But let them wait for an Obama slap by Guliani or Romney. Republican know they can get back the Whitehouse if any of the 2 candidates stood against Obama because Obama has nothing to show for experience which will be the cornerstone of Republican assault. Then Democrats will be biting their fingers having first thought the next Prez would be Democrat by hook or crook after the Bush debacles.

I don't know where this people get their nubers from? But as a hispanic American citezen, U.S. Navy sailor, their is no way I would endorse anyone that wants to give an "ILLEGAL" by definition (lawbreaking) person any kind of free pass. Neither does my wife, who is an immigrant. Why should anyone get a free pass when american citezens don't. I, as a U.S. sailor have to go through the process and pay the fees to make my wife a permanent resident. Other immigrants have and some are still going through the process. Border security is key to fixing the problem, but also cutting the benefits we hand out to "ILLEGALS" is crucial. People will not bother comming here if they new it would be harder to live here "ILLEGALLY" than living in their native homes. Wake up people it is not rocket science. A moyority of Hispanic citezen came here the right way, they do not endorse other people getting a free pass!
