WASHINGTON (CNN) - House Speaker Nancy Pelosi ducked out of a press conference on the economy Friday after learning her daughter Alexandra had gone into labor, her office tells CNN.

The California Democrat is headed to New York City for the birth. The new arrival - reportedly a boy - will be Pelosi's seventh grandchild, and Alexandra's second child.

Ms. Pelosi should stop for a moment and consider what the future will hold for her grandchildren, if she doesn't make some big moves while she has the chance. I've heard murmurs lately that Dems in the House are discussing a change in leadership...if the last 10+ months are indicative of all she's got, then perhaps we are due.

According to the Washington Post, Pelosi knew in 2002 that Bush was authorizing waterboarding. And she approved of it.

When you hold your newborn grandson, Ms. Pelosi, imagine someone waterboarding him. Is that what you stand for?

I am disgusted with you, and will now campaign hard for Cindy Sheehan.

Nancy Pelosi is one who has contributed a lot for this Over Population of this country.

In other congressional news, Dems got some very bad news today as their top two recruits in the Kentucky Senate race now appear likely to NOT run against Mitch McConnell next year. Very unexpected and major blow for Dems. Full analysis here.

So why group me in with the off color comment that person made ???? talk about blinders,,,,not all of us republicans Are pro life,,, you better get a grip

CJ, Catlettsburg, Ky.   December 8th, 2007 8:46 am ET

For the few of you from the "right side" as you call it and I refer to those "with blinders on," not all Democrats believe in abortion, but they do believe in "choice." It is something all you better get a grip on quickly, as very many of our choices are being eliminated. Congratulations, Nancy, there is nothing as wonderful as the birth of your own babies, until the birth of your grandchildren!!!

Well its good to see that when the leader of the house puts her mind to finally get something done; she gets it done.

Coming from someone on the left............ take a vacation Nancy it might help. I heard Harry, Mitch, and Mr. Boehner would like to accompany you. Do us a favor and take all of yourselves on vacation on the tax dollar so something can get accomplished in DC for a change.

Who cares! When did CNN become a family news letter service?

Jeanne Bedwell, Salem, Indiana   December 8th, 2007 1:45 am ET

"ducked out" ?? to be with her daughter during labor and delivery? What loaded language! I wish the mothers of America would rise up against CNN correspondents who cannot write or speak respectfully of women politicians. Mrs. Pelosi's priorities are correct and this sneer should be rebuked.

Now THAT's family values.

And the millionth time she has 'ducked out' of her obligations to us!

Honorable mention goes to:

Hey aj, some people don't get it. Ms. Pelosi has squandered the responsibilities and privilege that we have given to her and the whole of congress, and obviously, 'ducking out' of her highly paid, elected job is more important to her than WE are!

Mark, DC   December 7th, 2007 11:50 pm ET

AJ,

Abortion is not a punchline. No matter what side you take on the issue it is a serious topic that you don't take lightly. You cannot be as conservative as you make it out to be and be so glib on such on emotional issue. You are an embarrassment.

Congrats to the Speaker.

GETAN PADE, SD, CA   December 7th, 2007 7:45 pm ET

WHY NOT -SHE'S NOT GETTING ANYTHING DONE IN WASHINGTON.

pam Eugene OR   December 7th, 2007 7:29 pm ET

CNN
Why are you blocking ALL my comments. You think the Democrats are actually getting anything done in DC?
Congrats on the grandson ...now get back to work!

pam Eugene, OR   December 7th, 2007 6:42 pm ET

Might as well be in NY. She is not getting anything done in DC

Anonymous   December 7th, 2007 5:41 pm ET

And how much of the taxpayers' money did she spend to rush home for this joyous occasion?

George, IL   December 7th, 2007 5:01 pm ET

Congrats, Rep. Pelosi.

Now please do something to end the war and get millions of America's grandchild out of harms way.
