I WAS A FAN OF OPRAH FOR YEARS BUT LATELY SHE HAS BECOME HARD TO TAKE. I FOUND HER SOUND BITE IN AFRICA WHEN SHE OPENED HER SCHOOL TO BE THE END FOR ME- WHEN SHE SPOKE SHE TRIED TO SOUND LIKE SHE HAD A SOUTH AFRICAN ACCENT-WHAT'S WITH THAT??? NOW, THE SOUND BITE FROM THE OBAMA MEETING SHE SOUNDED VERY PREACHY AND I THOUGHT A LOT LIKE THE REV JESSE JACKSON-WHAT'S UP WITH THAT??? SHE TURNS ME OFF WHEN I HEAR HER TALK ANYMORE SHE IS A FAKE AS FAR AS I AM CONCERNED-SHE SHOULD WORRY ABOUT HER TV SHOW AND ALLOW THE VOTERS TO DECIDE THIS ELECTION. MY ONLY COMMENT TO HER IS "GET REAL" AND BY THAT I MEAN STOP TRYING TO SOUND LIKE SOMEONE YOUR ARE NOT!!! SHE IS NOT MY VOICE IN THIS ELECTION AND I HOPE THAT THE MILLING HERD OF WOMEN WHO WATCH HER SHOW DECIDE TO THINK FOR THEMSELVES AND NOT TAKE THE WORD OF OPRAH AMEN BUT FIND THEIR OWN WORDS AND THOUGHTS AS THEY ENTER THE VOTING BOOTH.

Maya Angelou calls Clinton 'my girl' in South Carolina ad
By Seanna AdcoxAssociated PressAdvertisement
Poet Maya Angelou says in a new radio ad airing in South Carolina that Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton is a strong woman who is committed to equal treatment for all children.

"Each generation of African-Americans stands on the shoulders of those who came before," Angelou says in the 60-second ad that began airing over the weekend in this early voting state. "Today, the challenges facing us threaten the dreams we have had for our children. We need a president with the experience and strength to meet those challenges."

Clinton's friendship with Angelou dates back to her days as first lady of Arkansas, where Angelou grew up, the New York senator's campaign said.

"Let me tell you about my girl," Angelou says in the ad. "I am inspired by Hillary Clinton - a daughter, a wife, a mother. My girl." Angelou, whose works include "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings," was the inaugural poet for President Bill Clinton in 1993. She endorsed Hillary Clinton in June.

Don't be a Racist! Vote Obama 08!

Posted By Marion, Lagrange, GA : December 9, 2007 6:04 am

This is the most ludicrous statement yet. A vote for Obama merely because HALF the color of his skin is black is racist. Don't be a sheep and vote for Obama just because he's half black. That is the most ridiculous reason to vote for Obama. And furthermore, it is taking a WOMAN (color doesn't matter) for this MAN to look good as a presidential hopeful! Oprah sold out as a woman! I'm sure that Oprah is a great mother figure for Obama. I'll bet he was breastfed the whole trip.

Maybe CNN should spend more time addressing the candidates and their views and less time worrying about celebrities. Your web site regarding candidates positions hasn't been updated in months. There are scant details regarding healthcare proposals or plans for Iraq & Iran. How about voting recoreds? Yet yesterday 3 of your stories on the home page dealt with Oprah or celebrity endorsements.

By the way, do you get a free car or fridge when you go to an Obama rally?

Jack in NY,

According to your ingenius statement Barabra Streisand is both a racist and a sexist right?

Jack in St Louis,

His middle name is Hussein (I am almost sure as soon as he was born, he named himself). Your point is what? We know his middle name because IT HAS BEEN USED! Time to move on, please!

The premise of the article "Oprah v Chelsea" is typical of the media. Dumb down the news to an American Idol or American Gladiator level so the masses can be stirred. This is NOT a sum zero game. Oprah does not diminish Chelsea or vice a verse. And look what your reap. Hateful people leaving messages that do not qualify for intelligent conversation or civil debate. (Poster, Anson Ang, being the most offensive and uninformative.) Ick! The posters make me feel like I've stepped in unsavory ooze.

Although I have not decided who will get my vote, I am less likely to vote for Obama based on Oprah's support. I do not believe that one person with fame and a ton of money should be influencing the outcome of an important election. She will get people who believe in her and have no clue about Obama to vote as she decides. There is something very wrong about using your celebrity to influence an election. While she is probably a good person with good intentions I wish she had stayed out of the spotlight on this. I think less of her now, than before.

"I am so ready for change. Obama everyday proves to be that hope that the US (and world at large) needs."
Posted By kate, gb

I beg to differ. The US and the World has BEEN HOPING for change since 2001. What the US and the World needs now is an Experienced Leader who can actually implement change not just give it lip service. And Obama is not the Candidate who can put his mighty words into action. Talk is Cheap. And Presidents void of experience and logic are dangerous. The latter a proven fact!

Chelsea at the tender age of 23 became a consultant. People are paying her hundreds of thousands of dollars a year for her keen insights into political matters.

Yea, right.

They are paying her because she has Mom on speed-dial.

Apple didn't fall far from the tree!

It ain't bribery, neither. All perfectly legal to hire the daughter of a sitting U.S. Senator as a "consultant"

Why do people defend the Clintons?

Oprah is a shame to her gender, yes the same gender that made her who she is today and she turns her back on them in a second when race is involved...

I think its time WE ALL tune out the oprahbama show, and let’s elect a REAL Presidential candidate like CLINTON!

Clinton should be ashamed at bringing out her daughter and mother? This shows her true family values as compared to Obama brining someone out Oprah who we all know and love thinking this will get him into the White House? Well if it does....it just shows that americans dont think for themselves. Clinton is what America needs. The posting that says if you dont vote for Obama your racist is NOT TURE Im a black man and of course im not racist but I support Hillary because she supports us but not only us ALL americans!

Hey Kate gb, You are exactly the type Oprah was aiming for; someone who will be dazzled by her celebrity (in spite of her weak message) and vote the way she directed you to. Thankfully, you are far outnumbered by those who can think for themselves, weigh the issues, and select the best qualified candidate.

If Obama is so good at bringing people together then why did he go and attack Hillary? He puts her down constantly. So that's ok? But he will be respectful of everyone else? He has already shown his true self. People need to take off the rose colored glasses with this guy. Remember how honest Carter was, and he had a hard time being an effective President. And don't get me wrong I'm a HUGE fan of Carter's. To me he's one of the greatest humanitarians. But it underscored my point that hope and good words alone will not make a great president.

I thought that it was heartwarming to see Hillary's mom and Chelsea campaigning with her. After all, that's what it's all about: family.

I rather see a candidate and their family than the over blown celebrity endorsement of a guy with too little experience and substance.

So she has her daughter and mother with her. Good for her. You can tell when Hillary is under the gun because she will talk about the elderly and children. I'm going to enjoy the whole Hillary campaign go down in flames. It's starting now. I'm ready for some one who will really change the country. I don't think Hillary is the one that's going to do that.

To Rauchelle Stone, The Woodlands:

To hear anybody from The Woodlands preaching about racism is like giving a forum to Hitler to speak on anti-

Blacks in The Woodlands are treated as intruders or tourists.

On Oprah and her truthful communication - Why didn't she tell the poor schmoes that got free cars on her show that they would have to foot the tax bill.

Many of the cars were returned because of it.

Wow, some of you posters of Clintonista fame really need to proof read what you post, poor English and grammatically brutal in just about every paragraph.

Not suprising you would vote for her and hammer Obama and Oprah, as Obama and Oprah have done it the old fashioned American way, "they have earned their spot", while many of you support hand-outs and big government "doing everything for you".

I don't always agree with Obama, but I respect him and Oprah immensely, Hillary would be NON-FACTOR in this country if it were not for her HUBBY, PERIOD, END OF DISCUSSION.

Chelsea has been rightfully off limits for years, but now the queen needs to come off as "Mommy of the year" and she is using her like a prop.

Typical of this "woman".

Michael of Stamford, CT
First, you obviously didn't hear the rest of the story... America already has a policy to shot first then ask permission later… Ask the UN… By the way Pakistan’s President gained power through an election or coup, try coup. Great Ally. Oh, thank goodness Pakistan is such a stable government or you didn’t hear that either.

Second, why has everyone made this a race issue because Oprah supports a candidate? When the great George W. Bush was campaigning for President no one complained about Pat Robertson supporting his candidate.

This is actually really really sad.

Obama and Oprah joining together? If you can see the reasoning behind that you need your eyes checked.

Also Obama has run his entire campaign on a false pretense-- "Change." In Illinois he drafted legislation with special interests and lobbyists, and he gives PAC money to people who endorse him.

He also has routinely missed important votes in the Senate because of running for President.

Obama, the "change" you are offering.. NO THANK YOU!

Hillary all the WAY!

Oprah can rally all she wants for Senator Obama trying to get him votes it's not going to change my mind. My vote for sure is going to Senator Hillary Clinton because she is a strong leader with the kind of experience that can bring us real change. Over the summer Senator Obama said he would consider using military action against Pakistan which was a very irresponsible thing to do considering the fact Pakistan is trying to help us fight terrorism. If we are going to solve problems then we need to work with other countries and bring our friends to the table not push them away. Senator Obama's comments over the summer caused some people in Pakistan to protest in the streets against us which shows Obama's lack of experience using Pakistan to try and score political points. That doesn't sit well with me at all. Hillary Clinton is well respected, experienced and she will be able to help us gain back respect both at home and around the world, which is something Senator Obama wouldn't be able to do in my opinion.

Michael fr Stamford CT : you've got be kidding

Hillary Clinton is a socialist. She has even said she believes the government is there to redistribute the wealth. She has also said a much more scary thing when she recently laughed and commented that we don't have enough money for all the programs she wants to install. I believe the government is here mainly to protect us from enemies and maintain the fed. courts. A lot of people must not have confidence in themselves to work hard, take personal responsibility for their success and survival and to be happy with less government control. I also think that the more government handouts people get and the longer they get them, the less of a survival instinct they have (that was clear in New Orleans two years ago). Ultimately , each of us is responsible for ourselves.

Jon from CA posted: Maybe he could enlist in the National Guard and get some useful experience. What does he know about sending troops into harm's way? All presidents have decided that they need to do that at one time or another.

Excuse me, Jon, but what do most of the candidates know about sending troops into harm's way?? WHAT KIND OF EXPERIENCE DID THE CURRENT ADMINISTRATION HAVE WITH ANYTHING??? Absolutely everything he got involved in lost money.

Anyway, maybe Oprah never got involved in politics before b/c no one got her excited before. Or maybe no one disgusted her before as much as this administration. She has already known Obama. If she wants to endorse him and go out campaigning for him, that is their business. And as a previous person posted, if people vote for him only b/o Oprah, it's not her fault. it's just further proof of how stupid people can be. How many are voting for Clinton b/c life was so much better with her husband in the WH.

I bet the same Hillary supporters who booed Obama and Edwards are up to their mean spirited messages on this blog.
Well, I, for one, will remember how Hillary supporters attacked Obama and Oprah and I will respond in kind if she should happen to win the election.
I will vote for Mike Huckabee.
This African American female daughter of a "Yellow Dog Democrat" will not forget the mean spirited messages.
I know of others who feel the same way.
No Hillary for me!!

I watched both the DesMoines and Columbia rallies and was excited by the outpouring of support that Oprah generated for the next president of the United States - Barack Obama.

Yes, Oprah is a celebrity, but not the usual "pop star." Oprah has earned great respect for her views on many critical problems that have increasingly troubled many, if not most, Americans. I am impressed that she has, as she says, "come out of my pew" to support a candidate she believes is best qualified because of his experience, integrity and wisdom to be our next leader.

It is lovely that Chelsea came to support her mother, and I admire her for this. But. . .come on Americans. . .we need a change from the Bush-Clinton eras. We need Barack Obama in 08!

On both sides, this gives a whole new meaning to the phrase "Bought and paid for."

Who'd Brabra came out for?

Posted By Walt, Belton, TX : December 9, 2007 9:33 am

The difference is Barbara has been politically active and has been very vocal about her political leanings so much that she's pissed off audience members during performances. The Oprah difference is she has never come out publicly in support of any candidate and if she is supporting Obama because he's African American so what, thats Oprahs vote, the issue here is people gonna vote for Obama because Oprah said so. Thats not on Oprah, thats on the voter, every individual is responsible for their vote as it pertains to their and their familys future. So if people are so dense to vote for a candidate just because Oprah is endorsing that candidate well don't go blaming Oprah.

It's not Oprah vs Chelsea. It's not Hillary vs. Obama. It's Repbulicans vs Democrats. A vote for Obama will ENSURE another Republican gets elected!
Obama hasn't a chance at winning the Deomocratic Nomination and by a miracle he did - it would mean another Republican President for America! Shudder, Shiver, Move to Iraq!

In reference to: "This comment if for all critics who talk about experience in running this country. What experience has George W. Bush demonstrated? If he can be President then I know anyone else can. God Help America…"Posted By Martin Ervin, Chesapeake, VA

Martin, I dont' mean this as criticism, but George W. Bush being nominated not once but twice as the President of the United States of America IS THE VERY REASON AN EXPERIENCED Candidate is SO IMPORTANT!
God Help Us is right if another UNEXPERIENCED Candidate makes it to the White House. And not just God Help America but God Help the World. And that is the reason Americans should think long and hard before voting for Obama.

Obama and Oprah are nice people, but what change did Obama accomplish in his previous experience that he's now taking to a higher level? The answer is none. He only has experience raising taxes to accomplish the goals of government, which is more taxes for those who are successful, to pay for those who don't particularly care to work.

Richard Nixon knows it from experience

In these times of crisis there's no time for "on the job" training of a new President. Instant decisions are called for the instant he takes office.

Only Richard Nixon already has the knowledge and skill required, based on eight years of direct experience.
