Very well said, R. Poore.

All this Fred bashing from people who have not even read what he has accomplished in his political career. Accomplished is the key word here, can Clinton or Obama say this? NO! Sure he is a dark horse for now, but the true voters are watching closer than you think. What I see on here is a bunch of liberals doing what they do best, crying, instead of checking out the candidates and judging them on what they have done in their political career. So what if Fred is married to a younger woman, good for him. I think some on here are jealous. She would make a lovely first lady. I know I would rather see her represent our country than that wrinkled up flip-flopper, with no accomplishments with Bill hanging on to her skirt-tail. We've had enough of the Clintons. Time for a change.

Fred will protect this country and try and bring us back together as One Nation Under God.

Go to his webpage and read up on him, instead of just making up your on ideas of him.

I will vote for Fred Thompson on his stance.

It's interesting to note that of 77 comments posted right now, only two (not including me) come from people in New Hampshire. That's an interesting statistic. I also note that, of the 75 remaining, there are only a few who truly have anything worthwhile to say.
As a currently undecided NH Republican voter, I can't say I blame Mr. Thompson for his decision. I have been watching the political scene in the state for some years now, and have noticed the fact that NH is slowly being inundated with a flood of liberals and "free thinkers" from other states. This in turn has changed the true political landscape of the state, and has influenced the margins in favor of those polls that have been taken. A poll only reflects what the people taking it want it to. It only shows what those who want to say something to the poll taker have to say. They are not even remotely accurate. What make them accurate are those who see the results and figure there is nothing they can do. It's a done deal.
Of course, if you check the red/blue maps of more recent elections, you will also note that NH has several times stood alone in New England. Why? Because those who are more serious about actually being a part of the election process, and not so much about trying to influence others on how they should vote, come out when the time comes.
If Mr. Thompson feels that the tide is against him in NH, then it is for him to decide. If a candidate feels that they have already done what they can, not much unlike an Emergency Surgeon, sometimes it's better to move on to a place where they can help.
Elections should be based on the credibility, ideas and ideals of the candidate. The question every voter should ask is "Do I think this person can run the country based on its foundational beginnings and on what's good for everyone", not "Is this guy going to do what I want him to do". An Election certainly should not be decided on how many times he has come around shaking hands and peddling a vote. The message of a candidate should be the same regardless of where they are campaigning, and not change depending on who they are campaigning to.
So, for whomever you may be pining over as your candidate, try listening to what they have to say. Be it Thompson, Huckabee, Clinton or Obama, let their actions speak for them. Be a part of the solution, not a part of the problem. Vote based on the issues and your conscience, not on what others say you should.
     God Bless America.

Wow, I see a lot of people mocking and criticizing Fred Thompson here, but as I look over the comments, I don't see anything with substance, and for that you should be afraid if you have nothing to stand on. The man has a rock solid platform, and I don't hear anyone criticizing where he stands politically.

Fred Thompson has the best platform out there, and he has my vote. I hope to see him walk on to success in 2008 as our next president.

I take exception to the statement that McCain is the only candidate with integrity. Dr. Paul has never taken lobby money, voted against the Constitution - even to appease Democrats on charged legislation - and staunchly defends individuals' rights. Even if you don't agree, you must concede it takes courage and integrity to never compromise with your values. More than I believe even I would have.

He might as well just pull out now. His campaign is as dead and dried up as his face. It's over, Fred. Law and Order is on its way out, and so are you. You disappointed all of us Republicans, who hoped you would save us all from the Rudy Monster and the Mitt Menace.

Fred Thompson is irrelevent in this race. He was a Southern option, which is one of the keys to winning any Presidential election. Now, a Southern Governor is surging and we all know that the GOP picks winners. Governors win Presidential elections.

The top two Republicans are Mitt Romney and Mike Huckabee. One is a flip-flopper, who supports abortion rights one day and does not on the next. The same candidate spent $20M in Iowa and is in 2nd to a guy who hasn't spent $10M nationally. The other is a Baptist minister and is surging without spending any serious money. Go figure. Those Sun Belt Governors are the best and win in both parties.

Thompson is going to place all of his efforts and money in Iowa. Therefore, he can get out of the race as soon as he finishes a distant 3rd. He only wants to campaign 2 or 3 days per week anyway. Fred Thompson still mentions the Soviet Union. Are you kidding me?

Fred has nobody to blame but himself. This election was giving to him on a silver platter. He waited way too long and he didn't show me anything. I actually had hopes for Fred, but now I am supporting Huckabee. Fred just needs to go home and watch the rest of the compaign over a nice bowl of egg nog.

Well Fred, if you ad studied political history (instead of those TV scripts) you would have seen this coming. In 1979 EVERYONE loved Ted Kennedy and demanded that he run for president (against a sitting president - Jimmy Carter). It was a slam-dunk - or so it seemed - and Ted did run and sank faster than the stock market of 1929. Why? I think it's just that silly side of human nature; people, often-times, love what they think they can't have, and once they have it, suddenly it doesn't seem so special anymore. Oh well, I do give you credit for trying - and, by the way, have you ever considered doing a re-make of Wizard of Oz? You can be the Wizard - lots of smoke and bluff.

That's all you need to know about Fred. Social Security reform, Taxes, Immigration, Bugdet, Education and Health Care.

NO OTHER candidate has mentioned social security? Is this not important to everyone?

Educate yourself and quit following the media machine.

0 because he has no executive experience. Fred needs to be tucked in bed again.

Tacoma Joe, it's not hatred of Thompson, it's lack of interest. He has no political philosophy, no reason why he should be President, got in late, hasn't done much since he's been in, and for the life of me, I can't figure out what typeof CONSISTENT views he has held. Like most politicians it depends on what crowd they are speaking to, as to what they believe at that moment.
I tired of fishing in the toilet for the least offense turd available.

No republican or democrat is worth voting for. They are all a joke--maybe with the exception of Ron Paul, but he doesn't stand a chance with the American people because he actually has principles.

Enough with Huckathompson overload!

How about a story about campaign contributions from the U.S. Military?

Or is that not allowed because it would put a certain candidate from Texas in a positive light?

People of limited insight have written off Fred Thompson. These are the same type of people who wrote off Ronald Reagan, and declared Adlai Stevenson the winner way back when. Fred Thompson is the only common sense candidate on either side of this race, and if we do not (all) choose him as our leader, we may well set ourselves irreversably down a very dark road.

Thanks TacomaJoe. Thompson knows he doesn't need New Hampshire. His message is getting out. What is funny is that the Ron Paul people are all over blogosphere. Its funny, why don't they just vote for Hillary. Same thing. Anyway, Thompson is doing the right thing.

If he's too lazy to campaign how in the world could he expect to run the country?

He expected to be annointed just like "W" was, but this time he figured wrong.

So long, Fred.

Go back down to those southern gun shows and tell 'em again that you're in paradise. That'll get a few locals to vote for you.

To TacomaJoe, Washington State :

Good posting, I think in essence, Thompson is one of those people who aren't good at the political campaigning part but may be very good at the governance part. But my thinking has been for some time now that he may be vouching for a vice-Presidential nod. In many ways, he could be to Huckabee or Giuliani what Cheney was to Bush, a very knowlegable and experienced veteran in government who doesn't enjoy the campaigning part. And he could keep the conservative base intact for the Presidential candidate also.

This is funny. He would be the closest thing we have ever had to Stalin. He cleaned up the streets of NYC with billy clubs. Giuliani is a fascist plain and simple. I can't wait until the FDNY swiftboats his candidacy.

"Interestingly enough, the first that I heard of his "laziness" was from the ubiquitous Clinton-basher, Dick Morris. I think Morris is supporting Rudy and Huckabee."

It was Nixon that was quoted calling him lazy and stupid. This guy is a joke like the rest of the field.

Well, the second coming of Christ certainly fizzled, didn't it Fred?

You crashed and burned before you even got off the ground.........that must be a record in itself.

OK, who's next to embarrass the GOP?

I'm not sure why there's so much hatred towards Thompson.

First, New Hampshire has been irrelevant as far as choosing a GOP nominee for the past 20 years. And this year, their already meager delegation is set to be cut in half.

Second, for all the talk of Fred being lazy, there is very little evidence supporting such assertions. The man was a federal prosecutor in his late 20s; he was minority counsel to the Watergate committee at a very young age; Thompson helped bring down a corrupt governor; He wrote a book on government waste after serving two terms in the Senate; And Thompson has worked in factories, as a bouncer, and a myriad other regular jobs. His resume is not that of a lazy man. He may not have the spark and permasmile you see on the other candidates. But I'd rather have someone who knows what's going on, than someone who can tell a good joke and seems like a really nice guy.

As a candidate? He received praise from the publications across the political spectrum (Washington Post, National Review) for his plan addressing Social Security. He has been the only candidate, on either side of the aisle, to address this issue. And it is an issue you can rest assured will become key, if not in this election, in the next one. People in their late 20s like me are not going to stand by the rest of our lives seeing hundreds of dollars stripped from our paychecks every month for a compulsory retirement system that will be bankrupt before we hit our 50s.

In addition to his social security plans, Thompson has proposed comprehensive and intelligent policies regarding: (1)the reformation of our tax system (which gives more breaks to the middle class); (2)the rebuilding of our military; and (3) the enforcement of our borders and our duly-enacted immigration laws.

Say what you will with your worn-out geritol jokes, and your lurch jokes. But the man is an intellectual powerhouse, and understands what our nation needs right now: a complete overhaul of a bloated and corrupt federal government, and a return of power to the states pursuant to the Constitution.

At least maybe you Thompson haters could come up with some fresh material. The stick a fork in him/geritol/is he awake jokes are getting stale.

"McCain has integrity"??

Anyone vaguely familiar with the political career of John McCain knows about the “Keating Five” scandal. For those not clear on the specifics, we’ll do a quick review:

In the midst of the savings and loan implosion of the 80s, federal auditors begin investigating the practices of S&L magnate Charles Keating. McCain, along with four other Senators, meets with Keating to discuss ways to derail the investigation.
McCain and his colleagues meet with Ed Gray, the chairman of the regulatory board, and persuade him to delay seizing the S&L.
Two years later, regulators finally have to seize the S&L for a federal bailout, costing taxpayers $2.6 billion. In the meantime, 17,000 investors in Keating’s S&L lose $190 million.
For someone with a stainless “reform” halo, McCain looks pretty dirty here. So, what does the “straight-talker” do? Take responsibility? Apologize? Nah:

McCain defended his attendance at the meetings by saying Keating was a constituent and that Keating’s development company, American Continental Corporation, was a major Arizona employer. McCain said he wanted to know only whether Keating was being treated fairly and that he had not tried to influence the regulators…

Oh, well we have no problem, then. After all, McCain’s job is to look out for his constituents, right?

But Keating was more than a constituent to McCain–he was a longtime friend and associate…Keating raised money for McCain’s two congressional campaigns in 1982 and 1984, and for McCain’s 1986 Senate bid. By 1987, McCain campaigns had received $112,000 from Keating, his relatives, and his employees–the most received by any of the Keating Five…

Okay, so that’s pretty fishy. Still, I guess you could say that just because someone gives you money doesn’t make you best buds…

After McCain’s election to the House in 1982, he and his family made at least nine trips at Keating’s expense, three of which were to Keating’s Bahamas retreat. McCain did not disclose the trips (as he was required to under House rules) until the scandal broke in 1989…And in April 1986, one year before the meeting with the regulators, McCain’s wife, Cindy, and her father invested $359,100 in a Keating strip mall.

Cripes! This is some Tom DeLay stuff, folks. So, here we have McCain conspiring with a campaign crony to rip off shareholders and American taxpayers. What does McCain do to atone for his sins?

…he contributed $112,000 (the amount raised for him by Keating) to the U.S. Treasury.

Oh, thanks John. Now, according to my calculations, you only owe American taxpayers about $2,599,880,000.00. We’d like that in cash, please.

I'm a Republican - a moderate. I describe my political stance very much like 70% of the country does - I'm socially liberal...and fiscally conservative (funny that both moderate Democrats and moderate Republicans describe themselves the exact same way) Anyway....tossing parties aside - who speaks to us?? Hillary? Nope....socially liberal...and fiscally liberal (putting forth an entitlement agenda authored by a Marxist - Saul Alinsky) - I really see a combination of left wingers (fiscally and socially liberal) and a combination of right wingers (socially and fiscally conservative) being offered by both parties....there seems to be two candidates who are both fiscally conservative and socially liberal - Ron Paul and Rudy Giuliani - now...Ron Paul is a Libertarian (and I refuse to wear tin foil on my head to block out the evil government) - so...Giuliani is it....he speaks for moderates....

Thompson was a joke perpetuated by the neocon media (and they call it the "liberal" media) as the real Democrat slayer, and as soon as he was put on the spotlight he quickly crumbled.

Now they are doing the same thing with this fool Huckabee, the only thing he has is that he says "God" a lot and a stupid Chuck Norris endorsement as if Huckabee were running as the president of some internet forum... look into this guy and he falls apart faster than a Fiat car. The prominent conservative group "The Club for Growth" is even going to start running attack ads against him, God's sakes.

Thankfully the only people with a shot at beating the Democrats are McCain and Ron Paul, and the media brushes them aside and belittles any of their accomplishments.

They have their heads shoved so far up their collective culos to see this.

This is no fire in Fred to run for President. This is a sure sign of defeat. Giving up on a early primary state? You should let your wife run Fred since she was the one who pushed you out for the GOP race in the first place. This is what happens when you are a wife is about 25 years younger. She has all the energy to new and different things, while Fred just wants to go home and sit on the porch with his grandkids...oops I mean kids.
