Bill Clinton: George H.W. Bush will help President Hillary

Bill Clinton said former president George H.W. Bush will help fix damage done to America's reputation by his son, George W. Bush.

ORANGEBURG, South Carolina (CNN) – Former President Bill Clinton said Monday that the first thing his wife Hillary will do when she reaches the White House is dispatch him and his predecessor, President George H.W. Bush, on an around-the-world mission to repair the damage done to America's reputation by the current president - Bush's son, George W. Bush.

"Well, the first thing she intends to do, because you can do this without passing a bill, the first thing she intends to do is to send me and former President Bush and a number of other people around the world to tell them that America is open for business and cooperation again," Clinton said in response to a question from a supporter about what his wife's "number one priority" would be as president.

A spokesman for the George H. W. Bush said Tuesday afternoon the former president supports his son's foreign policy and has "never discussed an ‘around-the-world-mission’ with either former President Bill Clinton or Sen. Clinton." (Click here for the full statement)

Clinton and the elder Bush, rivals in the 1992 presidential election, have grown chummy in recent years, often traveling and appearing at public events together. In 2005, they started a charity to help victims of Hurricane Katrina.

UPDATE: The Republican National Committee issued this statement in response to Clinton's comments:

"In 2009, a Republican president will be working with our friends and allies abroad to continue to keep our nation safe," said RNC spokesman Danny Diaz. "The American people expect our leaders - both current and former - to present serious solutions to the very real challenges confronting our nation."

– CNN South Carolina Producer Peter Hamby

If Hillary is so wonderful for our country, why does she need help from Father Bush? Or help from Bill Clinton?

It's a good thing that CNN doesn't even claim to be fair and balanced. The partisan bias is blatant: "to repair the damage done to America's reputation by the current president — Bush's son, George W. Bush." That's the Democratic Party's view, not a neutral one.

I assume that H. Rodham is so delusional about her popularity that she is certain that W's father is willing to go on a "my son was horrible" tour. That delusion stems from a level of arrogance never before seen on this planet.

Exactly who do we need to repair our image with. The Muslim terrorists who are trying to kill us? They seem the only ones Democrats can be referring to when making this statement. Europe continues to elect leaders who closely reflect our own administrations views on many subjects {France, Germany}. If you want to see who is responsible for bad feeling abroad {if it exists at all and if it really matters} you should point fingers at the press and the President's critics who have assassinated the man's character day in and day out for six plus years. For what he was handed Bush is doing a good job, these are difficult times and they require difficult decisions. He is President of The United States, not ruler of the world. His responsibility is to the American people, they elected him and when given a choice re-elected him. When the rest of the world supposedly loved us under Clinton Muslim extremists flourished. 9/11 was plotted, The USS Cole was attacked, the first WTC attack took place, the bombing of embassies occurred. Under Bush this has not continued, that is a simple fact!

I'm stunned at the comment above fighting off anybody who attacks a Clinton for the reason that they're "anti-woman" for president. What a load of crap.

PLENTY of women don't want Hillary as their first representative in the Presidency because she plays dirty, carries the stench of former scandals with her, and has a panicking, out-of-control husband who is campaigning hysterically right now to get himself back in the White House as First Spouse.

Ever think what it would be like if ol' Bill kicked the bucket? I mean, look at him. His face is so red these days you have to question whether his blood pressure is sky high. What if he does croak and leave us with JUST HILLARY?

It makes my blood run cold, I'm telling ya.

The audacity of the Clintons! It has taken 8 years to remind the world that a President is a leader and defender of freedom – not a serial sex offender.

The rest of the world will only like us Americans if we dismantle our military and destroy our economy. And Hellary has a plan for that.

I understand how all you people that really can't stand the site of Bush feel, I have the same feeling when I see a picture of this piece of white trash. Reputation? What did this idiot do to the reputation of the highest office in the nation? Turned it into a Motel 6. Bill Clinton NEVER got %50 of the popular vote, yet CNN acts as if he is the Messiah (and he may be in their eyes), he dragged the country through impeachment, lied to a federal jury, etc. I am frightened that we live in a time where such a person would not be shunned by the majority. CNN is really working hard for Hillary now because they fear she may not get the nomination and their collective little hearts would be broken. There is a reason for the ratings decline at the Clinton News Network...

What an idiot. Our terrorist problems grew to be a danger thanks to good ol' Bill's ignorance while posing as a president. As a member of the Armed Forces during his terms I know first hand what and inept idiot he was as our Commander in Chief. Anyone remember Somolia and his adminstrations refusal to provide even the basic resources needed to secure the safety of those of us on the ground there?? And the weakness he portrayed pulling us out some fast after one messy mission. Most folks call that fight a failure but in terms of kill ratio it was probably the most one sided fight the U.S. Military has ever been in. Heck, the objective was pulled off but the lack of armored vehicles set the negative events in motion when problems started arising. Now who was the idiot that denied the Commander on the ground armored vehicles...

    RE: Marvene

You said, "If the NEGATIVE remarks do not stop toward Hillary Clinton msnbc will need to be my choice"

Now you know how Republicans feel. Except it's been happening to us since 1973!

The only way the rest of the world will like us Americans is if we dismantle our military and destroy our economy. And Hellary is just the gal for that job.

Any image problem America may have undoubtedly springs from the preposterous crap spouted by Bill Clinton, a former president, for whom the meaning of "is" is a riddle wrapped in an enigma cloaked in a mystery. First, Bill Clinton shows no class when he trash talks the current president. You didn't see the elder Bush publicly undermining Clinton when he was making a mess of his presidency. Second, what kind of white trash talking is that when Clinton claims Bush's own father will take Bill's side against his own son.

These Clintons are awful people who disgrace America with their low personal character and endless personal promotion and partisanship at the expense of the country. Send them on a lecture tour, let them make their millions, but don't let them get their hands on the wheel again.

In response to Marvene Bowles of Florence, AL, it is not about Hillary being a woman that causes the feelings about her. It's about Hillary being Hillary. If she were a Margaret Thatcher many would have no problem, but she's a no-experience, dishonest, and poll-driven person that we should be wary of. And as for TB of FL commenting on "buffoons" (notice that it's spelled correctly this time?) please check your spelling so your comments will be taken seriously.

I'd love to have a woman for president, but what does that have to do with Hillary?

And what about term limits? She's already had two terms in charge.

Bush, Clinton, let's move on down the alphabet a little. It's time for a change.

If you really want a democrat that bad, vote for McCain or Guiliani.

Go ahead Marvene. Switch to MSNBC. You'll get the same left slanted garbage. But if it feels good I guess its ok... Just like supporting a candidate because she's a woman. Never mind all the corruption associated with the Clinton Regime or the barrage of lies spewing out her mouth. She's a victim of her own follies. Period.
