Bill Clinton: George H.W. Bush will help President Hillary

Bill Clinton said former president George H.W. Bush will help fix damage done to America's reputation by his son, George W. Bush.

ORANGEBURG, South Carolina (CNN) – Former President Bill Clinton said Monday that the first thing his wife Hillary will do when she reaches the White House is dispatch him and his predecessor, President George H.W. Bush, on an around-the-world mission to repair the damage done to America's reputation by the current president - Bush's son, George W. Bush.

"Well, the first thing she intends to do, because you can do this without passing a bill, the first thing she intends to do is to send me and former President Bush and a number of other people around the world to tell them that America is open for business and cooperation again," Clinton said in response to a question from a supporter about what his wife's "number one priority" would be as president.

A spokesman for the George H. W. Bush said Tuesday afternoon the former president supports his son's foreign policy and has "never discussed an ‘around-the-world-mission’ with either former President Bill Clinton or Sen. Clinton." (Click here for the full statement)

Clinton and the elder Bush, rivals in the 1992 presidential election, have grown chummy in recent years, often traveling and appearing at public events together. In 2005, they started a charity to help victims of Hurricane Katrina.

UPDATE: The Republican National Committee issued this statement in response to Clinton's comments:

"In 2009, a Republican president will be working with our friends and allies abroad to continue to keep our nation safe," said RNC spokesman Danny Diaz. "The American people expect our leaders - both current and former - to present serious solutions to the very real challenges confronting our nation."

what a scum bag. He really does want back in our Whitehouse doesn't he? I wish the cameras were running at night If these two ever communicate I can just hear all the laughter. Telling each other. you really came up with a good one with that line. Just keep repeating it someone will believe it. I can't find my clicker fast enough when either of those people are on camera. and America has a year to have to put up with this type of garbage.

I find it laughable that you Americans still believe there is an ounce of difference between the two political parties. You, like those in my country, have been duped and are paying the price for your short-sightedness.

I am sick of the Democrats looking at everything through the rear view mirror. I want a President who doesn't care what the rest of the world thinks about us. What happens when you try to please every one? No one is pleased. Dr. Phil can tell you that. The President and all the rest of these nit wits we hire with our votes need to work to get the RESPECT OF THE CITIZENS OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. If, by accident, that makes people in some other country happy, it will be an added bonus.

What happened to "Live Free Or Die"? We are living under a new Royal Family. It's the dictatorial oligarchy versus us. Out of control tazing, loss of property rights, search and seizure, total surveillance, confiscatory taxation, can't smoke, can't spank your kid, can't tell your 11 year old not to have an abortion, forced acceptance of deviant lifestyles, loss of sovereignty and heritage...AND YOU CALL YOURSELF FREE????? What a joke.

    BUSH-CLINTON-BUSH-CLINTON

I thought democracies were supposed to be free from the oppression of the continuation of families in the executive branch. Isn't that why we fought for independence from King George?? Do we now need to have another Revolutionary War against the Bush/Clinton corruption scheme? Give me a break! If Hilary gets elected, I might just have to enter politics so I can fight against her and take back the USA.

Let's unite as a country – Democrats, Republicans and Independents – and elect someone other than a Clinton or Bush. We need something new to bring us back together – we've had enough of the red state vs. blue state, us vs. them mentality. Barack Obama appeals to people from all walks of life and political backgrounds.

and we protect other countries borders?
Bush and Congress should all be kicked out, the sooner the better. And term limits on ALL gov. elected officials. And eliminate all the lobbyists.

The comment that the Clinton News

Network (CNN) is against Clinton is

one of the most hilarious things that

i have heard in a long time. Fox News

is horrible, and CNN is certainly

catching up. They're already on the

same level as Fox in terms of being

    blatently biased. They're quickly

catching up in other areas. It used to

be the one place where one could go to

    get balanced information. Not any

more!! They're very good at bating as

    well. They indirectly hurt other

candidates by bringing up old news

packaged as "new news with recent

    developments". Only show polls that

have hillary up. Like right now, obama

leads by and average of 4-5 points in

iowa, but you wont hear CNN say it.

    They used to use realclearpolitics.com

to show and average of polls. They

dont do that any more because Obama

leads the average of polls. I would

have never heard of RCP had CNN not

mentioned it when Clinton was up. The

    people are increasingly recognizing

that they are a joke and heavily

    biased.

What a stupid response from the Republican National Committee. I know they're just playing politics, but it seems we're never going to move forward so long as we keep building these massive walls around political ideology.

All potential conspiracy theories aside, perhaps George H.W. and Bill's extended collaboration reflect something really positive we haven't seen in politics in 7 years: collaboration.

Bill, you are one hilarious dude.
Judging from the impassioned speech given just last month by France's new president, I'd say we are gaining allies not losing them.
Gee Bill, did you forget what you did to Serbs? Bombing them on Easter Sunday? Oh, and that whole impeachment thing, and the fact that you are a disbarred lawyer? Maybe you can go and clean up your own reputation.

George Bush has done great things for this country, our economy and our neighbors, earmarking Billions to help fight the devastating effect of AIDS in Africa, helping to bring hope and freedom to innocent Iraqi & Afgahni citizens...
Btw Bill, we wouldn't be in this Iraq quagmire if you had allowed the capture and killing of Osama Bin Laden.

I really don't know how you can show your face in public with you all your failings as human being and as president. Tsk tsk!!
    Just a disgrace!

Is this also part of the "vast right-wing conspiracy?"

These are the people that made the world what it is today. Father, son, husband, wife, whatever ... these people have been controlling the world's resources for too long and have done a horrible job with the responsibility.

We can solve this. Both Edward's and Obama will send the best rep. possible–themselves. The nation...and the world, are a little tired of the Bush/Clinton regimes. I say we encourage them to stick to philanthropic projects, and their respective book deals.
