Bush laughed off President Clinton's suggestion Thursday.

WASHINGTON (CNN) – President Bush largely avoided answering questions about the 2008 presidential election during his press conference Thursday, but he did weigh in on Bill Clinton's recent claim that he and the president's father might embark on an around-the-world goodwill trip should Hillary Clinton win the White House.

“Well 41 didn’t think it’s necessary, it sounds like it’s going to be a one-man trip," an amused President Bush said of his father, former President George H. W. Bush.

Campaigning for his wife in South Carolina Monday, Bill Clinton said one of his wife's first priorities if she is elected president would be "to send me and former President Bush and a number of other people around the world to tell them that America is open for business and cooperation again."

In a statement issued to CNN Tuesday, former President Bush said he had not discussed such a trip with the Clintons and said he did not think one was necessary.

Also in his press conference Thursday, the president said he would refrain from discussing the presidential race when he was asked about former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee's recent criticism of his foreign policy.

But he said he continues to raise money for the party and is "confident we'll hold the White House, and I'm confident we can pick up seats in both the Senate and the Congress."

Read. Think. And by no means make a final decision about your vote until the day you cast it. Being so vocally committed to a candidate 9 months before an election serves little purpose in my view other than fanning the flames of a consumer-based political process. Issues will continue to morph in significance and relevance as press, pundits, and campaign funds churn on.

Healthy debate is one thing. Political machinations another. President Clinton is doing what he has to do as a husband who is a former President. Keeping quiet is not a choice for him right now. I don't put any stock in his comments at this point as he is not running.

As for the current President Bush: In all of his public mis-steps and errant statements he maintains a facile simplicity about him that has endured in American politics since George Washington. Again, he's not running either, so his words mean little to me on the matter of the election in November.

World Tour
President Bush, The Elder and President Clinton have collaborated quite successfully on garnering unilateral support - see calls for Katrina & Rita recovery assistance. I would be most interested in what the venues for a "peace and goodwill" tour would be. What would be the beginning, middle and end points?

Some ideas:

New Orleans–Bejing–Nairobi
Jena–Moscow–London
Los Angeles–Singapore–Sao Paolo

No matter what the political orientation, everyone recognizes that we have some serious relationship management work to do inside and out of our borders.

As some in the Ghetto would say...........

"You dont have to lie to kick it"

Dont tell lies to get the vote please. Can bill please just dissapear, he's not running!

P.S. This story was about a LIE Bill made. Funny how everyone talks about Bush-43. So much anger about Bush, your minds are clouded with stupidity and denial that the Clintons are the worst for America!

Robert Wooller   January 8th, 2008 7:13 pm ET

Bush should butt out of the election. He has had his two terms and now it is somebody else's turn to run the world and see if they can do any better than him. All I can say is that I am a bit worried about January 2009 when he leaves office. Will he give it up easily or will they have to drag him out of the White House kicking and screaming.

I am Canadian who passionately watches your politics. You are our Big brother.
Wake up Americans!!!
Why don't you choose your president based on substance and proven abilities, not based on "likability" for example.
Are you planning to marry Mrs.Clinton, or you want an iron lady to fix the big domestic and international bubo that the "likable " guy has done. (By the way chosen by you)
Did you really forget what was America during Clintons? 5 trillions surplus??!!
Everybody works, international respect...Everybody was envying you.
As an Canadian I was trying very hard to get a green cart those days.
Please do not be silly, give you country and yourself a brake. At list 4 years, then B. Hussein Obama is still here. Do not experiment again, because the suite talkers cost you ... how many billion up to know??...5-6..

The next President can not afford to have even a "Haney Day"!

How can anyone expect Bush to know anything about the goings-on should Hillary become president when he doesn't even know whats happening around him? Ex: the mess in Iraq, the Katrina devastation, the 911 occurrance to name a few!

At least Dubya has the "intelligence" to concede that Hillary will be President in 2009.

Why would she call upon 41, Dubya's father to repair the damage done by 43, Bush himself? Its beyond comprehension!

42, Bill Clinton must have been smoking something when he made that COMMENT!

You know I love these Clintonites who bash Bush. I suggest you read the history and determine who is really at fault for the mess that we are in now. It is Bill Clinton who allowed terrorism to flourish while he buried his head in the sand and Hillary did "bimbo damage control" (which is her only experience)

After 9/11 our stock market crashed people, and is now higher than it ever was in Clinton's time.

yet, you seem to want more of the Clinton's and their lying which is so transparent. They count on sheep like you who hear and follow, which brought us to this time and place in history.

We can not afford another Clinton in office. When they leave there is nothing to work with!

Never ceases to amaze me how easily liberals are seduced by a Democrat candidate promising a shopping list of entitlements. To suggest these clowns genuinely care for you well-being is just absurd...being a liberal candidate is just so easy...easy to entice the simple minded (like ABB) to vote for them, with a promise to give them something funded by the American worker. This gives me pause... If Hillary is going to go off half-cocked on claims like this, what else is she going to try to pull off in a half-baked manner. This claim of hers was impulsive, brazen, and arrogant. No matter what she does to try to make herself look soft and sensitive, her real colors seem to keep on showing. If we want to improve America's image to outsiders, choosing a woman who comes across as an ice queen is not likely the good choice. However, since Russia's "Ice Tsar" Putin (who has done some good things, but has also been oppressive and possibly murderous, and comes off cold and seems devoid of human emotion) was voted Time's person of the year, maybe that's what some people think we should want.

Remembering 9/11 (and being 150 yards away from the crash in the Pentagon), I would never vote for Hillary regardless of my party preference. The pilots' licenses that were procured by the terrorists & the plans that were being attempted and failed all occurred while President Clinton were in office. Because of his need to hide his own personal fidelity, the signs were ignored. President Bush has had his flaws (as has every president), but I feel President Clinton's flaws led to my life being in danger on 9/11 and took away 10 people who were very important to me. Being his wife means she will be no different. She was too weak to walk away from him and now is trying to ride his namesake's coattails. No thank you, ma'am.

I believe that this president doesn't understand what many people have termed "soft power." It is the idea that we can talk to people (friends and enemies) to get work done. I don't understand this need to fight after almost no diplomatic work. When the diplomats and military leaders say there is no alternative but war to accomplish the specific goal, then we must really be sure that is a worthy goal. Once you start a war, you must finish it; it is like breaking a vase, once it is broken, you have to put back together.

More Bad Judgment By Hillary?

The Clinton's were clearly used by the Bushes. If 41 and 42 were seen together as Ambassadors for America, naturally it would be assumed that the Clinton's were on board with everything Baby Bush's Adminstration was doing to this country, as well as to our image around the world Bill wants to repair along with the help of Daddy Bush.

All those assumptions became crystal clear when Hillary voted for authorization for Bush to go to war in Iraq and after Bill gave his approval for publicly. Despite the fact he tried to recently rewrite history for the benefit of his wife's Presidential campaign. That is so good for the Clinton's for thinking they were in the Bushes! Well, the Clinton's shouldn't feel too bad. Most of America is feeling right about now just as used by the Bushes as the Clinton's probably do.

Even I knew the war was a bad idea. So, why the heck would I vote for someone who either didn’t know the same, or worse, didn’t have the moral clarity or conviction to stand up and say so. Now, it appears the Clinton’s are the laughing stock of the world for presuming they were such good friends with the Bushes that they could use them as the Clinton’s were clearly used. There’s no way Hillary should be President if she can’t discern right from wrong or does not know when someone is yanking her chain.

I do agree we need to be more open with the world, but we do not need glory hounds like the Clintons doing it. We need people who are doing it for the love of our country doing it. At this point, I don't think any of the candidates are capable of this.

Robert, Houston TX   December 21st, 2007 7:45 am ET

Yes, they have to laugh it off because it's their only option. The idea of agreeing with Clinton (who is correct about the U.S. needing to patch up it's sorry reputation around the world) would be tantamount to admitting that Bush is one of the worst presidents in history. I don't think that's true though. I think he's the very worst, sitting at the top of the list.

Clinton should have phrased it differently though. Without getting word from Daddy Bush that he would be willing to be a goodwill ambassedor, he should have phrased it as if it would be a good idea, not as if it is something that would definately happen. That would have kept the Bushes from having much to say about it in return. Instead, we have Baby Bush snickering again.

"Heh heh heh. No need to tour. Everything's good. Heh heh heh. I'm on the job. It's hard work, but I'm on the job. Now, I'll see you fellas at my ranch for my two-week vacation. Heh heh."

The most incredible, and idiotic, reaction of all is the one by those who turn this around and blame one or both GB's for "not wanting to help the country". It can only be either wilful obtuseness or sheer idiocy that lets them so blithely turn the meaning of this whole little flap on its head. Or just obsessive, Bush-hating peevishness, of the sort that says, "Don't confuse me with the facts." The fact of the flap remains clear to anyone who's interested in more than yet another chance at a cheap Bush-shot. Bill the Goof shot off at the mouth, claiming Bush Sr was ready to go with him on a hat-in-hand World Apology Tour, to say "We're sorry for the last eight years." Bill the Goof, the Bubba and Inveterate Hick, totally lacking in class, thought nothing of essentially putting words in Bush Sr's mouth. Bush Sr was perfectly right in classily, tactfully stating that there was never any such agreement or intention on his part, and Bush Jr was perfectly right to chuckle at yet another blooper from Bill the Goof, especially since the blooper was intended to be at his expense.
Only an obsessive, knee-jerk, craven idiot could turn that around to Bush Jr "lying" and Bush Sr. not wanting to "help" his country.
If that's what you're doing, consider yourself the idiot.

When did the government become it's own authority? Didn't the founding fathers create this country to be FOR the People BY the people, not what pundits, parties, corporations and lobbyiest say?

Worst president speaks again but nobody listens anymore. How many days until this mistake leaves office?

Engawyer, Kansas City, Missouri   December 21st, 2007 12:06 am ET

Since he a sitting president wants to campaign, why don't dubya and McCain switch places for the last year. Don't tell him that he is not eligable to hold office. What an idiot. Dear GOP if your going to cheat to insert someone into office next time give us a genuis like Gingrich. The president almost ruined the country.

Vincent, Tamaqua   December 21st, 2007 12:05 am ET

Everything that Bill did for that cowboy.

THIS IS EVEN MORE TRUE NOW,
IT ALWAYS TAKES A CLINTON TO CLEAN UP AFTER A BUSH!

Hillary 08'!

Wynter, Loudon, NH   December 20th, 2007 11:33 pm ET

Bush is about as idiotic as they come with his predictions. But on the idea of a diplomatic tour (and his numbskull laughing it off aside) is more than necessary based on his "zero" diplomacy tour he's had all these past seven years. The man is a menace, especially when given a microphone. Someone get him a gag and waterboard him.

Telling it like I see it,
Wynter

“But then I suppose the upside of being delusional is the ability to twist reality in whatever direction suits you in spite of any and all evidence to the contrary.” Yup La Chatte of Portland, OR, your right of Nancy Pelosi that weasel Harry Reid and the liberals of this great country are doing a great job of twisting reality. And what evidence are you talking of? You all spout stuff without facts! Where are the facts??? What is the evidence you’re talking about? SHOW ME THE FACTS!

bush laughing at the people of america for backing him not only clintons Remark bill i'm sick of hearing about bushwacker

girrlgil   December 20th, 2007 11:11 pm ET

Mr. Bush, I like the smile on your face. I'm laughing with you. So cute!
What about the tax cut you gave america, are we going to continue getting it?

Christine, Toledo, OR   December 20th, 2007 11:10 pm ET

I know CNN (Clinton News Network) doesn’t like hearing the facts! But if I recall, Billy Clinton made that statement WITHOUT even talking to Bush 41 first about it! What is Bush 41 to say? Clinton’s still an idiot who didn’t inhale…cough cough Bulls*it

Sue in Florida   December 20th, 2007 10:59 pm ET

Did not former Presidents Clinton and Bush travel together, has Junior forgotten already? Likely. In fact, I recall hearing him announce that he had asked them to work and travel together to work on different issues. Also recall elder Bush making public statements about how well they worked together. If anyone can improve our image around the globe that Bush has ruined, it would be Bill Clinton.
They don't need the Bushes, they can do the damage control and mending differences on their own. Sorry lil GW, the last laughs will be on you. Back to the couch you should go, don't fall off!

Chester T, Lubbock, Tx   December 20th, 2007 10:46 pm ET

Gawd, how disgusting. The only reason America's "image" is "tarnished" overseas is because we have finally (after 8 miserable years of a pathetic Clinton administration) begun to stand up for ourselves. America is a beacon (how many people immigrate to Egypt, Syria, Iran, China?). Oh, I forget, you liberal, Bush haters, love those countries. Why don't you go there and make everyone happy?

W.C.FIELDS,OHIO   December 20th, 2007 10:46 pm ET

Mario* You really have a sex problem dont you? Professional help is available for little or no cost.He isnt running for Office and even if he was it wouldnt matter to me after the countless lies out of this white house.I would gladly send you a 20 bucks to get your problem fixed.Lmao

Kathy, Roseville, CAlifornia   December 20th, 2007 10:45 pm ET

Mr. President,
I have watched you for 7 years laugh at people, but this comment was you laughing at us, AT AMERICANS. I guess that you and your daddy will not ever really help us after all.
When a president asks you to help, you should say yes, just like Bill Clinton did for you. This just shows what kind of people you and your dad are.

Good bye and go to Crawford.

Gil - California   December 20th, 2007 10:34 pm ET

Bubba Clinton is an idiot. I haven't heard him say anything since number 41 smacked him down.

He should be happy with W being in office, until that happened, the worst president in living memory was a two person race between Carter and Clinton. Now it is a three person race, and too close to call.

Jimmy McCosker, Asheville, North Carolina   December 20th, 2007 10:20 pm ET

BUSH, SHOULD HAVE NEVER BEEN ALLOWED ON THE GREAT WHITE HOUSE LAWN!!! HE SHOULD HAVE JOINED SOMEONE LIKE TRUMP ENTERPRIZES,OR PEE WEE HERMAN SHOW!!! CLINTON'S IDEA ABOUT GOING TO OTHER COUNTRY'S AND TRYING TO RECONCILE AMERICAS NAME,TRUST AND BACK TOO DOING BUSINESS IS VERY INTELLIGENT!! IT'S REALLY HARD TO BELIEVE THAT THE COMMANDER OF THIS COUNTRY CAN FIND HUMOR,NO MATTER WHICH PARTY TO TRY AND REPAIR AMERICAS GREAT NAME!! BUT JUST TAKE A LONG LOOK AT THE PAST 7 YEARS,ANYTHING GOES!SCARE AMERICANS AND DO NOT TAKE THE BLAME for anything...

Russell Greensboro, NC   December 20th, 2007 10:20 pm ET

To Dave in Atlanta:
If it looks like Hillary will win, you bet the Republicans will pick up seats. They know they will be needed to keep her in line.

Vic Novosad, Sugar Land, Texas   December 20th, 2007 10:19 pm ET

Seems this should be a pay-back. Didn't George W. invite Bill Clinton to accompany his daddy around the world to raise money for relief during the tsunami catastrophe? And wasn't it successful? Many, many folks feel that Hillary definitely does not need a Bush to help her win the presidency, especially with an attitude like that! Whatcha' bet George H. W. will join Bill if asked by Hillary?

Al, Dallas   December 20th, 2007 10:18 pm ET

Talk about presumptuous! This speaks volumes about who the Clinton's THINK they really are on Capitol Hill, big shots who can speak for other ex-presidents and dignitaries without even consulting them first. More 'fly by the seat of your pants' style politics that the Clinton's are famous for. No wonder there always pulling their foot out of the mouth or apologizing for something that happened inside of their campaign. Enough already, it's time to send Clintons packing.

ronnie knoxville, tn.   December 20th, 2007 10:18 pm ET

Bush going on tour alone. "A MAN and HIS PRINCIPLES". Can we buy tour t-shirt s and programs ?...seriously, good job George. YOU DESERVE A little travel.

Ajay Jain   December 20th, 2007 10:10 pm ET

At least Dubya has the "intelligence" to concede that Hillary will be President in 2009.

Why would she call upon 41 to repair the damage done by 43? Its beyond comprehension!

42 must have been smoking something when he made that COMMENT!

E. C., Houston, Texas   December 20th, 2007 10:06 pm ET

Anyone who calls President Bush a liar is one who ignores the truth, himself, and is ignorant of the REAL facts.
Most people who criticize President Bush, and he IS the President of this country and deserves YOUR RESPECT, do so because the Democrats have spread so many lies and instigated so many false and unnecessary witch hunts in trying to destroy Bush's Admnistration. And the cooperation is worse now with Pelosi. How can any person of normal intelligence not realize that Slick Willie was trying to get response and create more turmoil for the Bush Presidency? And you who continue to give support to the Lying Clintons are undereducated, to say the least. Poor You! There is so much 'in-fighting' within the lousy, hateful, Democratic Party that none will win in 2008....there will be another Republican in the White House, thank goodness! Pelosi is a total FAILURE, also, so you can add her to your list of hateful female Democrats, right next to Sillary. Pelosi is disgraceful with her trash mouth and completely un-American.

Axel, RKDA, California   December 20th, 2007 10:00 pm ET

Remember that old saying "Laugh and the world laughs with you"? In Bush's case it's more like "Laugh and the world laughs at you"...

The problem is, what he did to our country really isn't funny. Even Nixon was a better President, and he was a national disgrace.

Edward H   December 20th, 2007 9:56 pm ET

Had Bill Clinton asked Hilary if he can go with Bush?
What did she say, or is it all in the family(s)

Les, Boston, MA   December 20th, 2007 9:43 pm ET

The constant drone from the left accusing Bush of destroying the country, of being the worst President is history is hysterical BS. History will be the judge of Bush Presidency...and its likely to be kinder to GW than many might imagine. One sure bet, his legacy will overwhelm Clinton's mediocre Presidency.

La Chatte, Portland, OR   December 20th, 2007 9:39 pm ET

It would be lovely for Mr. Clinton and HW to do a road show, if for no other reason than to mock publicly W's utterly delusional, nutcase Christian ineptitude. But then I suppose the upside of being delusional is the ability to twist reality in whatever direction suits you in spite of any and all evidence to the contrary.

Just look at the photo that accompanies this article. The concert's over and the band's gone home. He'd much rather be back at the ranch, drinking a beer, and remembering his cheerleading days in college.

Seriously you liberals try to anger this man and all he does is laugh it off with a grace and class. IF you dems and liberals had half the class this president has. Bush showed his class when he refused to condemn the liars at the Swift Boats. The classless Bush has NEVER specifically said he actually served his time in Alabama, just given a vague answer about "completing his obligation".

He showed his class with statements like "we've never been stay the course" and "Rumsfeld will stay".

He does beat Democrats at something. He is the biggest debt-generating president in history. Clinton only has the record for the biggest surplus.

Tom Marshall, Savoy MA   December 20th, 2007 9:28 pm ET

Bush and his corpporate friends have done more damage to our country than any prsident in history. I for one will vote for a candidate who will unite our country not divide it. Under Bush, the rich got richer and the middle class and poor got poorer. What nakes him think Americans will want more of the same old same old in the white house for the next four years?

Georgia   December 20th, 2007 9:25 pm ET

I am a christian. Yet, I am embarrassed and ashamed of the U.S.A.'s policies toward middle eastern/muslim nations. Saudi Arabia doesn't want us there....so get OUT! Muslim nations don't want us interferring and I don't blame them. September 11th would have never happened if we had "minded our own business". George W. Bush is a dictator and an imperialist and I am ashamed to be an American. I NEVER thought I would say those words, as I dearly love America. I'm not sure who I am voting for in the next election, but I so hope they restore some respect for America. All I can say to those people in the middle east is that I am so sorry my leader (who I did not vote for) has been so wrong and so cruel and so narrow minded. I am so sorry. I am so ashamed to call myself an American.

Of course the Bush's think they are doing a great job with diplomacy and foreign affairs….that's why — in part — the world is in such a mess today. Clinton's willingness to travel the world as an emissary while Bush's (both of them) show an unwillingness to do so should be all the American people need to know as to why Hillary should get hired to be president. Say what you will about the Clinton's (both of them), but the fact of the matter is their egocentrism is actually a good thing; if they want to be in power to help people (and really want to be remembered for that), then I applaude them. Bill Clinton did not have to start a charity, and be so active in it. But he did. Is is motivation to have his name in the news? Probably, in part. But, again, he's doing such good work, and that's what's important. The same can be said for Hillary. She works extremely hard. Dedicated. Does good work. Why? To get her name in the news? Probably, in part. But I'd like to have that work ethic in the White House. It's been lacking since, well, since G.W. Bush took office…

BWA HA HA indeed. Good old Billy put Daddy in a headlock. How is a Daddy to come out of that corner, once maneouvered there, but to stand next to (and prop up) "the dumb one." This of course just draws it sharply to everyone's attention – again – just how painfully much America's reputation and power has wilted at the hands of his limp-minded offspring and the rest of them. Sometimes Bill makes Rove look like a novice. The difference is that Bill works for Good...

It was a bit ironic that while President Bush was having his personal joke about a one-man trip, in the background, on CNN, was a picture of his father and Mr. Clinton emerging from a plane, presumably after a trip on behalf of, and at the request of, the current President Bush, in support of the nation's values.

This laughing stock of a president has no clue as to the damage he has done. He really thinks he is admired by other world leaders. The mess he and his henchmen have done will take generations to repair.

And the only seat he will pick is the one below the back of his belt.

Jan, Bakersfield, Ca   December 20th, 2007 7:29 pm ET

I certainly hope the American people take note of Obama's lack of understanding politics by the fact he would consider a Republican as his Vice Pres. That would put another Republican in the White House to run this nation in the event of Obama's demise. That would be disastrous! Have we not had enough of the Republican administration running things in Washington? He clearly IS a rookie!

a poor judgement.

"43" takes the work Bush-league to a whole new low ... the GOP will loose in 08 because of his lousy leadership. The Shrub will then have to content himself with cuttin' brush 'cause no one will help him refill his coffers by attending his speeches ...

Scott, Madison, WI   December 20th, 2007 6:09 pm ET

Any time he laughs, it's to cover up his ignorance and lack of knowledge.

Remember, this is the president who hadn't been off the North American continent prior to taking office. He didn't even know where Iraq was prior to the invasion or where Afghanistan was prior to the war.

He's limited to his personal "Bermuda Triangle": the ranch in Crawford, Kennebunkport and now Washington.

Left on his own, this chimp would get lost in a shoebox. It's no wonder he can't even run a country!

Tim, El Cerrito Ca   December 20th, 2007 6:07 pm ET

Is this a big shock? We are not going to be able to rely on Bush I or II to help solve our problems. Why they don't even see them as problems. If I was President Hillary Clinton I would break precedence and never call on those two bozos for anything, especially #2. The man is absolutley pathetic. He's done a masterful job at dividing a nation. I hope he's proud of himself!

The Clintons will lie if they think it will gain some points. What's new about this.

Clinton may be the nominee for the dems, but she will never be president. Or, if she is president, nothing will get done, and we will be back to republicans after her one term.

Rev. John Hansen   December 20th, 2007 5:58 pm ET

What a sad state of affairs when a president laughs off the offering of a former president for a bi-partisan boosting of the U.S. image. It is one of the most classless things Bush has done, and he's in the gifted class where that is concerned

Its an honor if a sitting president ask a former president to go on a diplomatic trip, and just because this knucklehead of the president (G.W. Bush) does everything in spite, other presidents don't.

...and if Hillary was to win the presidency, and ask president G.H.W. Bush to go on a diplomatic trip, I'll bet a months sallary that he would.

I dont think any other president will ever ask Bush to do anything, EVER.

tomcat27834   December 20th, 2007 5:48 pm ET

BUSH 41 knows all to well the damage that his son, GWBush has 'caused throughout the world. BUSH 41 wept and became defensive when asked about GWBush and his destructive policies in the middle east. Remember, BUSH 41 saved kuwait after the invasion by Saddam. If a sacred region such as the middle east in no longer welcoming territory for BUSH 41, only think what the rest of the world including Asia and Europe think of us. GWBush has been destructive and wreckless – however, this will all change Jan. 20, 2009 with the election of a new U.S. President – and yes, BUSH 41 will play a strong deplomatic role because, for any other reaseon – to same the good name of his family.

Art, San Francisco, CA   December 20th, 2007 5:47 pm ET

"...it sounds like it’s going to be a one-man trip..."

It would be even if Bush *DID* go along. We know that Bill has working male genitalia, and Barbara wears the strap-on in Bush's marriage!

Jim, Atlanta   December 20th, 2007 5:42 pm ET

Totally clueless to the damage he's done to our country.....what a buffoon.

Mark, Dothan, AL   December 20th, 2007 5:39 pm ET

We are so screwed if she wins...Better start teaching our kids Arabic....

Paul, Tampa, FL   December 20th, 2007 5:36 pm ET

If only our reputation around the world could be restored by H.W. and Clinton going on tour. I don't think anything short of a Bush-Chaney Nuremberg Trial, with a televised hanging is gonna even come close to putting things right with the rest of the world. BTW, is it January 2009 yet?

Stan Smith Duarte, Ca.   December 20th, 2007 5:36 pm ET

Doesn't one of BUSH's Pharmecutical Company CRONIES, have something they can give George to help w/ his "DELUSIONAL STATE" of Mind ???

Robert , Hiawatha, Iowa   December 20th, 2007 5:24 pm ET

What a disgrace to the American public and the entire world. Bush laughs at someone trying to promote America as the great country it once was before his administration told the world to "go ?!#* yourself".

Susan, Fort Pierce, Florida   December 20th, 2007 5:23 pm ET

What an idiot Bush is. If elected, Hillary will send Bill around to pick up the pieces and try to undo some of the untold damage that Bush Junior and his motly crew have wrecked upon this once great country. If there is one person on the planet that can achieve that it is Bill Clinton! Bush Senior, I think, knows this. But out of loyality to his son he is playing dumb. It would not look good! Ha! As if anything can salvage his son's failed presidency!

Cody, SF CA   December 20th, 2007 5:18 pm ET

It was pretty audacious of President Clinton to assert that Bush's father would go on that trip, effectively saying that Former President Bush does not support his son or his party. Don't get me wrong, I'm likely to vote democrat next year, but probably not if it's Hillary...

Steve, Portland, OR   December 20th, 2007 5:18 pm ET

This is all a big non issue. Clinton is not president. Even if this happens, what are the chances a father who coaches his son daily would give him up and admit his son has run the most unethical and arrogant administration that we've ever seen.

Karen, NYC   December 20th, 2007 5:00 pm ET

I now have a fond respect for Bush 41....

pam Eugene OR   December 20th, 2007 4:57 pm ET

You tell them George! God forbid you should consider what the people who elected want. Right or wrong follow your own lead. You are such an arrogant idiot!
If you would have listened to the people of this great country we would be a hell of lot better off.

Corey, Manchester, NH   December 20th, 2007 4:51 pm ET

Please! Do you really think George Bush cares about what the average American thinks? If he cared about Americans in general we would not be in the situation we are in today – pathetically in debt and disliked by many countries that were once our peers. Now he can go home to Crawford and be a WORM. He is counting his days. Somebody else will pick up his mess – in fact, didn't President Clinton pick up the financial mess of the previous administration and lead this country into a surplus that would be plundered within the current administration? WORMS.

Phil Memphis, TN   December 20th, 2007 4:50 pm ET

Yeah w. heh...heh.. you're confident the GOP will keep the White House. Of course you were confident we would be welcomed as liberators in Iraq, and you were confident Iraq had WMD's, and you had confidence in Alberto Gonzales, and you were confident.. well, you get the picture.

Barry, Miami, FL   December 20th, 2007 4:49 pm ET

It sounds like Mr. "I'm a uniter, not a divider" is being his usual one-dimensional self. So much for bipartisanship. Get a clue, people. Bill Clinton isn't the only one Dubya is laughing at.

For the Neo Con owned News Media and Communications Conglomerates.. What excuses are you going to use to explain the Conflict of Interest and Collusion between you and the Neo Con Parasites infesting the Executive Branch?
The amount of Collusion in suppressing any negative views or facts in furthering King Pinocchio and Shotgun Cheney's Gutting, Usurping and Crapping on the same United States Constitution as well as lies, fabrications, half truths, and the obfuscation and manipulation of intelligence and facts will come back to bite you Neo Con Partisan hacks in the butt!
You can't print this because it brings to light the malfeasance and Treason that you Partisan Neo Cons operate under.

Ken, San Diego, CA   December 20th, 2007 4:40 pm ET

Of course the Bush's think they are doing a great job with diplomacy and foreign affairs....that's why - in part - the world is in such a mess today. Bush took office...

Dave, Atlanta, GA   December 20th, 2007 4:37 pm ET

He's confident they will pick up seats in both the senate and congress?

Interesting. That's not what Mitch McConnell said. The republican leader in the senate believes the republicans will be lucky to break even. And an objective look at the numbers backs him up. This is a high risk election cycle for republicans in congress.

TonyA   December 20th, 2007 4:35 pm ET

I don't see how this president can laugh about the matter. It was absurd of Clinton to suggest that the president's father be included in such a trip, if it came to be. But this president with his arrogance masquerading as patriotism has single handedly done as much to undermine the United States in the eyes of the rest of the world as did the 9/11 terrorists do here on our soil.

Lynn Ensley McCaysville Ga.   December 20th, 2007 4:33 pm ET

He should be very enthusiastic about that trip, he would have an opportunity to do at least one good thing for this country, he never did before and he and Barbara should be prosecuted for giving live birth to George W. While you are over there take a long look at your new world order.

AJ; Montpelier, VT   December 20th, 2007 4:27 pm ET

What an arrogant, idiotic man. He has frequently laughed at people and look where it's gotten him. He will probably go down in history as one of the worst, most corrupt, unintelligent and hated presidents we have ever had. If his father does not think a diplomatic trip around the world to restore American credibility is necessary he too is clueless as to how much dmage his simian son has done to this nation.

Russell Greensboro, NC   December 20th, 2007 4:25 pm ET

Why is 43 "President Bush" and 44 "Bill Clinton"? The honor of the title goes to all ex-presidents, show some respect.

Tom, Anaheim, CA   December 20th, 2007 4:20 pm ET

Well, "43" and I finally have something in common, we both laugh at "42". But I laugh harder at "43" because his reign is an even bigger joke than "42".

justicejones   December 20th, 2007 4:16 pm ET

"Heh Heh Heh"
Its so funny that a Bush might want to help the country out rather than get it into a war or deep in debt on the brink of an economic downturn. "heh heh heh" Jerk!

Ryan Indianapolis   December 20th, 2007 4:15 pm ET

Seriously you liberals try to anger this man and all he does is laugh it off with a grace and class. IF you dems and liberals had half the class this president has. You constantly try to belittle and bad mouth this president and he doesnt fall for the bait. Bottom line is you people are upset that Bush beats you at everything(war funding, budget, elected twice) and now that Iraq is turning around and victory looks attainable you people will even be more upset. Isnt that sad Liberals will be upset when American completes the mission in Iraq and WINS....You people really make me sick....

HEADLINES:

Bush Cackles at Bill!

Ouch, you know it has got to hurt when Bush can mock your dumb butt.

What he should have said was: "Bill still hasn't gotten back in here, Hillary still has to defeat Edwards and Obama., After that gets done, if and when he does get back here, he can take his one man carpet ride to the desert! He can call it a Clintonage! HeHe. A Clintonagerialistic Clintonage!"

Bruce, Charlotte NC   December 20th, 2007 4:12 pm ET

...."confident we'll hold the White House, and I'm confident we can pick up seats in both the Senate and the Congress."

First, isn't the Senate part of the Congress?... yes I know he probably meant to say both the Senate and 'House' but just another example of his profound speaking ability....

And second.... funny, I distinctly remember both he and Karl Rove uttering virtually the same BS in 2006...

dan, Reality, USA   December 20th, 2007 4:10 pm ET

41 is as delusional as 43 if he doesn't think a goodwill mission around the world isn't needed after 43's destruction of our good name.

Connie, Louisville, Tn.   December 20th, 2007 4:10 pm ET

He is so delusional! After the next election Bush can go back to Texas and take all his Repugs with him. Then the process can begin of straightening out the biggest mess this country has ever been in!!

Susan, Houston, Texas   December 20th, 2007 4:09 pm ET

Bush 43 has spent the last seven years laughing which is why, along with many other reasons related to this President this country is in such a mess. If Senator Clinton is elected President of the United States in 2008, let us hope for the country's sake she keeps Bush 43 far away from the rest of the world. Thanks to him, they already hate us enough. Perhaps a new Democratic Administration will have a decent chance at rebuilding America's standing in the world which has been so tragically destroyed by the present administration.

Diamond   December 20th, 2007 4:07 pm ET

HA HA HA HA HA !!

It won't be a one-man trip. It will be former president Bill Clinton and RETIRED Senator Hillary Clinton.

We all had a good laugh, too. Bill Clinton knows how to make himself the butt of jokes.

JDS N.C.   December 20th, 2007 3:58 pm ET

The clintons will say anything to get elected. Hillary will be easy to beat when you compare her lack of experience to someone like Romney, McCain, or Guiliani. Game over when the American people reflect on this. Also she will destroy herself with her proposed spending ideas.

brewpark   December 20th, 2007 3:58 pm ET

Bush is truly an errogant putz.....

Sharon, Littleton, CO   December 20th, 2007 3:54 pm ET

It was inappropriate of Bill Clinton to "volunteer" 41 for the diplomatic mission to repair all of the incredible damage inflicted on our Constitution and international relations by 41's son, the moron. Laugh now, W! We will all have the last and BEST laugh when you leave office.

Kelly Puckett, Kenton, Ohio   December 20th, 2007 3:53 pm ET

What a Clown we have in the White House now anything would be better than what we now have.

Jason, Fairbanks, AK   December 20th, 2007 3:51 pm ET

Why is the "professional" and "competent" Hillary campaign trying to win the Dem nomination by offering to send forth George Bush as a diplomatic surrogate?

You would think someone "experienced" in foreign policy might realize George Bush isn't exactly what the world needs to see from the United States trying to regain some clout after the Bush years.

aj huntington, ny.   December 20th, 2007 3:51 pm ET

LOL ! Sorry, Bill , George Bush 41 doesnt' WANT to go on a world tour with you !! HAHHAHA

Steve, Lyons, CO   December 20th, 2007 3:51 pm ET

A one man show, if it's Bill Clinton, is all that's needed. Bill is a one man show, especially diplomatically. Hillary's first action will likely be to appoint Bill Clinton Secretary of State.

Nice side insult, Bushcrap, by saying ONE man show instead of TWO person. Hillary – your replacement, Mr. Bemused – is also going.

And why would the Clintons discuss with you, a foreign policy disaster and the Worst. President. Ever.?

Bill might as well ask a two year old, for all good asking Bush will do him.

Gus T. Miami, FL   December 20th, 2007 3:47 pm ET

Love ya President Bush. You are the best! Thank you for 8 good years of stable economy, putting terrorists on the run, and freeing 2 countries from tiranny. Keep smiling and history will vindicate you!

you've done enough to ruin the reputation of this country, do us all a favor and step down now so we can erase your presidency like your croonies erased those tapes

Lee, Mays Landing, New Jersey   December 20th, 2007 3:45 pm ET

For goodness sake, please take that pic down of the younger Bush, he is the President of the United States but "looks" like a cretin.
It will be a fine day when the Bush's disappear from public life. Not that I care to see to see the Clinton's to much more either. We don't need family dynasties ruling this country, and the 2nd Act of each is worse than the first.

therealist   December 20th, 2007 3:44 pm ET

Bill must have missed Germany and France's new leaders the last time they were in town to gravel and promise more foreign aid. Oh, and lets not forget Iran and North Korea shutting down their nuclear reactors. What are those love letter Kim Jong Il is sending Bush..

sharon walker, fOLSOM ca   December 20th, 2007 3:42 pm ET

Dear Friends:

Please deliver a message to Bill Clinton. Haven't you done enough?

You and Hilary are responsible for where we are at now. Go where the sun does not shine any more.

There are enough Americans and Veterans citizens without jobs. lost of homes and mortgage and loss of businesses to China and Mexico and Central and South America. You have opened the door and downed the Savings nd Loans. Enough. Stay home and retire. read the presidential requirements on the website. No experience Hilary for the job of Chief of Staff.

Angels on MSN weather maps to come and monstrous weather conditions. We do not need your donkeys ARSS.

God help us. Amen.

Lawrence Turner-VaBeach, Va.   December 20th, 2007 3:39 pm ET

So the current idiot in the White House thinks it funny Clinton should be interested in efforts to repair the great damage "Junior" has done to USA'S image abroad? And" "SR" says no trip necessary? What planet does he live on? Oh well-Like Father like son.
