Yes, by all means, let's lie awake at night in our beds and think of the terrorists plotting in far off lands to take away our freedom. It's a nice distraction from the very real threat to our freedom right here, from our current administration. Republicans have blatantly used 9/11 to scare us into thinking that we have to surrender our civil liberties and basic freedoms to keep us safe from another terrorist attack. The Patriot Act and warrantless surveillance and countless other assaults on the Constitution have seriously compromised our freedom right here at home. FDR was right to tell my parents generation that they have nothing to fear but fear itself. That was in 1932, at the height of the Great Depression. But it's just as true over 80 years later.
