Ballot Bowl: Edwards vows to fight

Watch Obama react to Bhutto's death

John Edwards often vows to fight Washington's special interests on the stump.

John Edwards is devoting a significant amount of his resources in Iowa, where most polls show him locked in a dead heat with rivals Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. On the stump, he often says he is best able to take on Washington's special interests. Watch a clip from a recent event in Des Moines.

Edwards is always a big talker-and some of you keep believing the promises with no evidence. Same with Hillary-promise, promise. You democrats need better choices that aren't socialist or communist.

well Im for edwards for one reason alone he does have the best chance of winning in the general election. clinton cant because of two much baggage that will come out in the general elections looked what happened to kerry republicans will destroy her and im sorry to sound racist but if barak wins the primary i can see the dems losing the election on one FACT and yes it is a fact that people will vote republican just so a blackman isnt elected sorry to say that but i dont think america has grown up enuff that is why i think edwards has the best chance of beating the repulican nominee so vote the way u want but if clinton or obama wins the primary u can and better expect another republican pres for atleast the next four years and that means 1000s more americans dying in a useless war in iraq true democrats want a democrat for pres its time to elect a man or woman that can beat the republicans so vote for that and not just the issues

I like Edwards but he ran for prez the last time. I looking for a President to inspire me, not a trial lawyer to fight corporate interests and get nothing done of importance over the next 4 years.

Edwards is the most socialistic of the big three Dem candidates. He even said that he wants to ward off capitalism through taxing the successful who have built our strong economic growth. Revenues are pouring into the federal government, thanks to President Bush's tax cuts. Edwards has a mind to turn off the flow of that economic growth and force people who have worked hard and built successes to fork over up to one-half their income. If that's not socialism, someone explain what is.

Nice comment , Rob, I can tell you put a lot of thought into it. However, as far as I can tell, neither Hillary nor John belong to the Socialist or Communist Parties. I suppose that if we follow your line of thought we can assume all the Republican candidates are Nazis or some other form of ultra-right wing, white male dominated fascist party members that give lip service to the Christian Right just to get votes.
Instead of labeling and name calling, why don't you specify the "evidence" that is lacking? However, do we really need more evidence from the Republican side? I think the state of the housing market, the lack of available and affordable health coverage to the poor and middle class, the Katrina aftermath, and the failed occupation of Iraq speak rather convincingly of the ability of the Republicans to resolve the major issues facing us right now.

    What melarchy!!

There is no evidence–because we've never had a candidate that actually went to Washington and represent the "majority" of people that elected him.

As a career military veteran who served under 6 commander-in-chiefs...I can truly say that Edwards is the first "genuine" article that has come along in my 30+ years of voting.

He is passionate about his ideals, and his credible (his record shows it). He has not collected a single penny from special interest money–and has made a public vow that he will have no lobbyists in his cabinet, on his staff. This is earth rendering honesty–that Americans have not seen since John Kennedy.

If he does not become President, we may have missed the only opportunity to curtail the "powerhouse" in Washington which is bent on keeping wages and benefits low, and eliminating even the most basic entitlements of a civilized, prosperious nation. And ultimately, if not curtailed–will force Americans to migrate to other nations in order to obtain decent employment in a global market driven economy–that has no compassion, and has no charity.

My 2 cents. Please read more.

I always find it a little humerious–when educated professionals equate any discussion of necessary entitlements, fair distribution of wealth, or whether medical care is a right or an option–attack those counterpoints with only one response: socialism or communism.

You know, all Americans are seeking the American dream–and none want to forfeit the possiblity of achieving by converting to a communist society.

That said–a capitalistic society that is purely market driven–greed can overcome some other ideals of democratic thought.

Our founding fathers–would never have approved the obscene executive salaries and benefits paid for contractual work–with golden parachutes waiting even if they fail in their leadership. In a nation whose focus on cost-cutting, would afford rewards to American companies who outsourced American jobs in favor of cheap off-shore labor. They would have abhorred business entities who secretly stashed millions in off-shore accounts to avoid paying their fair share of the tax burden necessary to maintain the nation.

Those politicians calling for some reality checking–aren't socialists or communists–but patriots. They are making a stand, that represents the ideals of our nation and our foudning fathers...and I/m proud to be on their side. I am especially proud to be supporting John Edwards in his endeavors to "recreate" the priorities in Washington.

Yeah Rob, and you Republicans need any candidate at this point, but it would be nice if they weren't liars and warmongers with delusions of grandeur and dictatorial aspirations. Congratulations, you have supported the most criminal administration in american History for the last 8 years as we have watched a surplus turn into a deficit, no progress on healthcare, and been lied into a war that is killing thousands. Thanks a lot, the rest of us really appreciate it.

Where is Elizabeth? She wears the pants in that family, while he styles the hair. Lightweight, disingenuous and unqualified.

Why are we even talking about this guy? Please remember John Kerry's characterization of Edwards' private comments to him as being "chilling". We don't need to know anything further.

Edwards is the better of all of the pack, look at what he is doing for students in NC and getting them to college, some times it takes big talk to get things done.

The truly ignorant most always resort to labeling and name calling when they have little or no basis of fact for their position on a specific topic.

    Rob:

Communism is a form of Socialism and is defined by Merriam Webster as: "A doctrine based on revolutionary Marxian socialism and Marxism-Leninism that was the ideology of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics."

I do however agree with you on one issue, and that is we should always hold our elected officials accountable. How do you feel we should handle Bush?

Edwards is one of the least qualified to be President. I can't believe anyone would take him seriously but it's time to get the word out that many, many people are falling for his line despite his underlying falseness. Yes, he was a success in law school and was smart enough to win lawsuits but our legal syst. is slanted more towards "he who has the most money and the best lawyer" than is it to dispensing justice.

Edw. knows nothing about succeeding in business, so he can't encourage small businesses to do so. He knows how to go after big businesses who have personal injury cases against them, but that's not leadership. He doesn't talk to voters about personal responsibility, hard work , accountability, faith and family; instead he tells voters they're victims and that the government under his hand will give them the what successful, hard-working people have achieved. Don't worry if you aren't motivated, the government will give you things to equate you with the rich guy down the block and the unions will grow to be mini-governments themselves.

Edwards knows nothing about our great military and he has no executive experience. Yes, he embraced the capitalistic society we live in to rise up to living in a 28,000 sf house and using a very expensive hair stylist. However, his message appears to be that if you HAVEN'T achieved what your rich neighbor has achieved, he will tax the rich people so that you CAN have more. Never mind that you're not interested in hard work, faith, family, and personal accountability. We're going to take over services and businesses and everything will be done for you by Washington. Be prepared to pay half of your gross amt. you earn if you ARE successful, because Washington is becoming more socialistic if this guy gets more power .

    Congratulations CNN TV!!!

By running the "I-Report hour long segment" 10 times in a weekend and New Year Eve, and New Year day. You have shown me the light of the day. Cable has repetition but you have crossed the LIMIT!

I have discovered my options in FOX NEWS, MSNBC, CNBC, NBC, ABC News, and CBS News.

Bye bye CNN I have been watching you and reading CNN.com for the past decade since you were the TURNER machine.

People, pollsters, pundits give undue importance to the IOWA caucus anyway. Isn’t it time to break the back of this myth of IOWA’s importance? They haven’t picked a winner since 1976. I will wait for Super Tuesday on FOX NEWS though I know they are not FAIR & BALANCED! The most powerful name in NEWS?

    Go Hillary44 08! http://hillaryis44.org/

John Edwards is the most qualified of them all! Edwards doesn't waste his time slamming his apponents, instead he puts his time, interest, and his heart into what is best for all of us! Democrat, Republican or independant. I think he is for real, "heart and soul". John Edwards wants to keep the jobs in the United States, I had a job, that left me looking for another job, because the one I had, went to Mexico! We need someone like Edwards that not only has a heart, but has a backbone to stand up to what is right, and what is wrong. No matter what, its going to take alot, to clean up the mess Bush got us into.

John Edwards in a tree with a bunch of monkeys and he couldn't be the branch manager! I can not believe people are fooled by this charlatan, but, as an ambulance-chasing lawyer, he plays his deceptive role very well. I would have never thought it possible, but he almost makes Hillary Clinton and Al Gore seem somewhat credible!!!

First of all I'm an Independant voter living in Illinois. For those that want change, it won't happen if you follow the money or machines for either party. Now we have many problem's in our country, why keep following what hasn't changed anything for decades? I'm looking at my family, friend's, community, etc. and have decided to become independant minded. I don't care what the "Pundit's" say, I have a brain too. I don't need anybody telling me what's happening to our country, it's really a shame what we have left our politician's and money do to us. I don't think you all do either, it's up to us to change this peacefully. We need to take the money out of politic's by our votes, that's the only way it will be taken out and, you know this. You all have families, friend's, and communities too. If you don't stand up and come out to vote and take the money out of our election's, we're really in trouble in the United States. So my message is this, vote in all election's by what you see and think yourselves. Don't be a follower, it's your country, take it back !!!!!

John Edward's core beliefs are the reasons America is fast becoming a thirdworld nation. Trial lawyers and unions have forced manufacturing to China and Mexico and the unions alone have destroyed our public schools. How can a system work, where you can't fire the incompetent? This man is a fraud and would be a disaster in the White House. Talk about an shallow empty suit.
