Biden highlights Clinton Pakistan gaffe

Biden got tough on Clinton over her recent comments on Pakistan.

Biden got tough on Clinton over her recent comments on Pakistan.

(CNN) - Democrat Joe Biden suggested Tuesday that presidential rival Hillary Clinton doesn't adequately understand recent events in Pakistan.

The Delaware senator was responding to news that Clinton suggested in two recent interviews that Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf is up for reelection this month.

Musharraf was actually reelected in October, and the upcoming Pakistani elections are parliamentary, not presidential.

"We have a number of candidates who are well-intentioned but don't understand Pakistan," Biden said at a campaign event Tuesday. "One of the leading candidates - God love her."

"There are good people running," continued the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, who has made his foreign policy credentials a centerpiece of his long shot presidential bid. "But to say Musharraf is up for election! Musharraf was elected - fairly or unfairly - president six months ago. It's about a parliamentary election!"

Clinton's comments came in an interview with ABC Sunday, in which she said, "[Musharraf] could be the only person on the ballot. I don't think that's a real election."

The New York senator also made similar comments during an interview with CNN's Wolf Blitzer last week, saying then, ""If President Musharraf wishes to stand for election, then he should abide by the same rules that every other candidate will have to follow."

Both gaffes were first noted by conservative Thomas Houlahan, writing for the Middle East Times.

The Clinton campaign has not yet returned a request for comment on Biden's comments, but said yesterday the New York Democrat was referring to Musharraf's party, not himself in particular.

Republican Mike Huckabee took heat last week for also getting key facts about Pakistan wrong in the aftermath of Benazir Bhutto's death. He first suggested the country remained under martial law (it was lifted a few weeks ago) and later said that Pakistan shares its eastern border with Afghanistan (it shares its western border.)

You may not understand the Third World countries politics, as most of you have lived in the "box" all your life. Please understand the world...try to understand what is going on in other countries too. Still Musharraf is up for election because all the people on the ballot are his messangers, from his party. They are all hand picked. It is not a democratic election...as there is no true democratic election for the worldly goverment. Cheating, sabotage, and lies everywhere....remember?

Biden – you supposed to know better. Hillary is smarter than you on this one also.

Yeah, I was wondering when people would actually get an idea of Hillary's experiece (or lack of).
This is a woman who had never made a house payment until 2000!!! Never paid rent!.. oh and the State paid for her health care since the 1980's.

Really now, what REAL WORLD experience does she have? never had a job, never had to make payroll, never had to come up with insurance premiums....

Oh yes... we sure need a man like John Edwards. He's "honest." Like when he talks about there being two Americas, one rich, the other poor. Of course, his wealth is in the 9 FIGURES and he lives in a home the size of Rhode Island. Which, by the way, he made chasing ambulances and by suing a doctor for inducing Multiple Sclerosis in a baby – by the way he delivered it! The fact that MS is 100% genetically transmitted didn't stand in the way of a judgment worth hundreds of millions of dollars, and which ended up bankrupting three hospitals and God knows how many physicians. All in a day's work for that lying, despicable SOB. HOW CAN DEMOCRATS BE SO STUPID AS TO SUPPORT THIS TRANSPARENT, UTTERLY PHONY CARICATURE OF A PRESIDENTIAL WANNABE? It's a disgrace that any Americans can be either so ignorant or else so politically desperate that they would want to see this fraud elected. What has our country come to when this level of hypocrisy is not only ignored, but actually condoned?

She is really starting to lose it as I thought she might. Just like when she said that she was on that dangerous mission which turned out to include Sheryl Crowe and Chelsea. When you don't write the books attributed to you, and barely read them, it is impossible to remember everything but to feign an emotional response is just too much when it turns out to be a little fib.

Raman, yes, I saw the article on Scotland Yard ...(and that the ISI is funded by the CIA and in turn both agencies created al-Queda).
    *****

There is no way US/CIA or Al-Queada involved in this attack. Al-Queada will not break its oath to not harm a woman, so safely Al-Queda is not involved. CIA is not involved because our leadership from Pres. G.W.Bush to democrats had stake in Butto's win.

Anyone who kills a national figure of Butto's stature will be labeled a terrorist instead of a simple murderer.

The killers are among groups of Madrasa operators in Pakistan, who are staunchly opposed to Butto's leadership. Now Pres. Musharraf's only participation in this incident is that he has allowed Madrasa operators to operate with impunity in Pakistan.

Scotland Yard's involment (a UK agency of US ally) is to allay doubts in Pakistanis that Pres. Musharraf and by extension US is not involved in this incident. It is highly doubtful that Scotland Yard will be able to pinpoint the particular Madrasa Leadship who actually carried out this shooting.

The Democrats wouldn't know Pakistan from Kreplachistan. No wonder Bill Clinton did nothing about bin Laden for eight years.

Let's remind ourselves of Hillary's international experience (here are just a few:) Sen. Clinton is the only First Lady to have addressed The United Nations, the World Bank, the Council on Foreign Affairs and the World Economic Forum, building on and expanding the work begun by her great heroine, Eleanor Rooseveld. She is widely credited with providing the vital push to women getting the vote. In the fledgling state of Slovakia, she fought for civil rights. In South Africa, she was there for that country's first free and fair elections. In Northern Ireland, she is credited with using her personal offices and great persuasion and charm to hasten the Good Friday Agreement. Her speech at the U.N. 4th World Conference in Beijing, China, were cited as a milestone for democracy. All this has peviously been dismissed as a series of "tea parties" by her detractors.

    Thomas Houlahan is a conservative?

How does Mr. Moony know? Does he always stick a label on people like that? I don't recall him ever warning me that a particular writer was liberal.

    Where's Craig Livingstone?

I am in hysterics over the stupid, idiotic, assinine comments made for the socialist democrats you are extolling for our next president. Do you actually believe that any of them could handle another 9/11 disaster? Joe Biden. ridiculous. Obama; babe in the woods. Edwards:: hasn't made one cogent argument in his favor. Hillary: only males that sit down to pee should vote for her. Any republican will destroy your chosen one.

    This what Hillary said:

Clinton's comments came in an interview with ABC Sunday, in which she said, "[Musharraf] could be the only person on the ballot. I don't think that's a real election."

There is no mistaking what she said. She was saying that Musharraf will be on the ballot. She must not have noticed all the news about Musharraf recently recently having to remove his General's Military uniform, just before he got sworn in for a new term as President of Pakistan.

Hillary is the one who was claiming that Obama's remarks about Pakistan showed that he was not up to the job, and that words count on the world stage. Well, yes they do Hillary, and you just revealed how unprepared and uninformed you really are. There goes your much touted experience claim. You sound just as unaware of foreign affairs as your fellow Arkansan, Mike Huckabee.

Bush was asked by Andy Hiller in Boston, "Who was the President of Pakistan?" Bush didn't have a clue. I bet Bush knows now. Point is, no matter who you elect, they should know within 24 hours of a news cycle, who the players are. If you were smart, you'd have one of your staff people call J. Biden before you commented on anything outside of the US boarder.

For over a decade we have been told by nearly everyone in the media that Hillary is the smartest woman on Earth. Even Billy boy has called her a genius. The fact of the matter is that Hillary is no genius. I hesitate to even say she is smart. If someone can give me one example, just one, of her genius I'd love to hear it, because after looking at her record she has no accomplishments worth stating. Oh I'm sorry ... she has one big accomplishment ... riding the coattails of an extremely successful husband.

Ok I get now loud and clear. So Hillary Rodham Clinton has no foreign policy experience and she is not respected around the world and she is stupid and ignorant and that is why late Ms. Benazir Bhutto herself wanted to give the "secret documents" that she she wrote just before her assasination only to Senator HIllary Clinton and Senator Joe Biden explaining what is happening in Pakistan.
And Barack Hussein Obama is the most qualified in foreign policy beacuse of his childhood days in a muslim country.... Wow what a brilliant assesment. Good for you America.

bignicholas says "any republican will destroy your chosen one"

hey buddy, check out the polls, which consistently show Obama beating ALL 5 major Republican candidates in head-to-head matchups.

The idea that any of the Democratic candidates "couldn't handle" a 9/11 is preposterous. Just because George Bush is a tough-talking ignorant cowboy doesn't mean he did a "good job" with 9/11. We need a diplomatic leader who will actually help enhance our image with the rest of the world. People like Bush only deepen hatred for America and increase the chances of another horrible attack.

"and expanding the work begun by her great heroine, Eleanor Rooseveld. She is widely credited with providing the vital push to women getting the vote."

First, it is Eleanor ROOSEVELT. Second, women got the vote in 1920. Eleanor Roosevelt was First Lady from 1933-1945.

Why can't Democrats actually say something without lying, making things up, or faking it?

First of all, OpraBama wasn't even in the Senate to 'vote against' the Iraqi issue.

    This guy's a carpetbagger.

    All talk and no walk.

Hillary on the other hand has the experience, ability and credentials to be a great President, and the people of Iowa will recognize that fact and make her the frontrunner going into the New Hampshire caucus.

I liken the choice of picking Barak OpraBama in the caucus process to a parent declaring their own incompetence and allowing their 20 year old the management of all current and future financial and strategic family matters.

The parent's rational is that the 20 year old has the experience of 2 years in the 'real world' and has a vision for the future.

Never mind that that 'vision' is an Igloo Export business based in Chignik, Alaska with exports to the lower 48!

Come on, get real and let's caucus for someone who has a record of public service and proven accomplishments.

    Hillary Clinton is that person.

    From the Politico:

    Hillary on the press bus

Hillary stepped onto the parked press bus in Indianola for about 90 seconds to deliver bagels and coffee, and I'm not sure what this says about Clinton and the press — the chill, I think, comes from both sides — but it was a strange moment. She expressed her sympathies that we're away from our families and "significant others," tried a joke at the expense of her press secretary, and paused. Nobody even shouted a question, whether because of the surprise, the assumption that she wouldn't actually answer, or the sheer desire to end the encounter.

One reporter compared the awkwardness to running unexpectedly into an ex-girlfriend.

"Maybe we should go outside and warm up," said another, as Clinton exited into the freezing air.
