(CNN) – Mike Huckabee will be spending the night in Iowa, hoping to capture the win in the Republican presidential caucuses — but he'll also grace the screens of late night talk show viewers for the second time in two days.

The former Arkansas governor taped an appearance for CBS's Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson yesterday, when he flew to California to appear on NBC's Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Last night's appearance drew criticism from striking TV writers, followed by a statement from Huckabee that said he hoped the dispute would be resolved soon.

No such worries tonight: the Late Late Show is produced by David Letterman's Worldwide Pants production clompany, which has reached a separate deal with their writers.

Craig Ferguson, who is awaiting U.S. citizenship, has asked governors and mayors to give him honorary citizenship in their states and towns in the meantime. During his visit, Huckabee told him that if he becomes president, he would see what he could do to move the process along.

Dem from MI,

Actually, I read your post correctly. I just wanted to say the Writer Guild is much worse than most union because its members are extremely wealthy, where one may still find some merit of supporting certain labor union. Then I go so emotional and started writing to general reader and forgot I put your name in the first of my blog/essay.

"Now, these people form an union and decided to cry poor. Maybe you want to believe them deserve to have more money, but I don't."

Please re-read my posting and you will see I concur with you. It appears you completely read my post the opposite of what was intended and written. I stated the unions are driving costs way up because of the greed. I believe this was your opinion as well.

I was an audience member at the Ferguson taping yesterday when Huckabee showed up for an interview (to be aired tonight). This visit did not appear planned (by the show) but seemed like he was trying to do damage control after realizing the error or crossing the picket lines for Leno.

Ferguson introduced him as the author of a diet book then focused on his defecation habits in the first segment (Huckabee did a nice post Larry Craig fetal position demonstration of political pooping etiquette). Overall, Huckabee used some folksy charm but added little substance. He did say that one of the first acts he would do if elected president would be to grant Craig Ferguson (Scottish) U.S. Citizenship.

He did invoke his Christian lifestyle once again (Romney's "perceived" weakness) . The Republican party is on the verge of some major internal conflict if this guy wins the ticket. The surge of Christinanity that he has been riding into the spotlight will not be enough to give him an address on Pennsylvania Ave.

WE ARE ALL TIRED OF THE WRITERS STRIKE! IF MAKING HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS, EVEN MILLIONS OF $$$ IS NOT ENOUGH FOR A PRIMETIME WRITER EXCUSE ME FOR FEELING NO SYMPATHY. TRY WORKING FOR A LIVING!!!

Richard, Ewing, NJ   January 3rd, 2008 3:05 pm ET

Dem from MI,

You do understand the American Guild for Writers is a union for very wealthy people, right? I do not know about you, but these hollywood writers earn much more than I do, much more, and I am a fairly educated man with a PhD working at a Forture 100 company. Hollywood writers on average earn $200 000 a year. This is the average. Yes, they earn more than what we consider as top professions: doctors, lawyers, engineers. Now, these people form an union and decided to cry poor. Maybe you want to believe them deserve to have more money, but I don't. I should not be this blunt, but US median household (not individual) income is under $50 000. Each of these "poor" writer has more than 4 times the income than the median HOUSEHOLD income. I am shocked. I am really shocked that many of you here attack Huckabee crossing that picket line. I am not his fan, and I am definitely not supporting him, so feel free to attack him, but attack him fairly. Facts are facts. I am glad that Huckabee crossed that picket line. I am glad anyone would cross that line. Clinton, Biden, McCain, … anyone.

Huckabee * In 1990 speech to the Arkansas Baptist State Convention, Huckabee said, “It doesn’t embarrass me one bit to let you know that I believe Adam and Eve
were real people.”

* In 1997, “Huckabee refused to sign legislation to assist storm victims
because the measure referred to tornadoes and floods as ‘acts of God.’
Putting his name on such legislation, Huckabee explained, ‘would be
violating my own conscience’ due to the bill equating ‘a destructive and
deadly force’ to ‘an act of God.’”He claimed intervention from God in his
successful 1993 special election in Arkansas’ race for lieutenant governor.

———————————————————————————————————–

I have no problem believing that Adam and Eve were real people because there are hearths which were used for baking bricks in Louisiana carbon dated to just shy of 4000 BC but did Huckabee actually deny aid to victims while Govornor for flood and tornados because the were defined as "Acts of God"

At least he isn't sleeping his way to the top like Hillary. If her last name was Jones, instead of Clinton, she'd be a high-priced lawyer with no chance to get elected to anything.

Richard, Ewing, NJ   January 3rd, 2008 2:49 pm ET

Melissa,

Huckabee does NOT have a degree in theology. If he does, then you probably gave it to him because no one else has.

Independent,
I am glad that Huckabee crossed that stupid picket lines, even through he was unawared of his situation. He should cross it intentionally and cross it proudly. I hate unnecessary unions, especially wealthy union. It is one thing to support union of poorer people, like factory workers. It is another thing to support a union of very wealthy people. Hollywood writers on average earn six figures a year. Yes, they earn more than 100K a year. Average PhD employee earn about 60K a year. I am disguised at people who earn over 6 figures a year to try to get more money by forming union. Maybe you want to see hollywood screenwriters to have 200K a year, but I don't. Maybe you like to see business CEO to form an unions too, right? So CEOs all over the country can ask for more money. What about union for senators? Senators should allowed to boycott american citizens too for salary increase. Yes.

Without a ratified amendment Terrorism remains a State problem.

Without listing and ratification to the federal constitution contraband and other State prohibited items remain the States problem.

The war on Drugs and terrorism itself is not the Presidents problem, and immigration currently isn't either; those are powers vested in the State not the Union.

If the President gig doesn't work out…mabye he can get a job on the talk show circuit as a traveling "Music Man-Minister".

Mario   January 3rd, 2008 1:48 pm ET

See what this Gomer Pyle does, breaks a striking union, way to go Hickupbee, he will respect nobody but himself and the interests that have the most money. Just another AR politician ruining things for people.

Ivan, Chicago, Illinois   January 3rd, 2008 1:25 pm ET

Without a doubt Huckabee is the most dishonest of all those running for President.
Just as a picture is worth a thousand words, and you actions speak the truth, Huckabee's actions proves that his words are lies.

Independent in IA   January 3rd, 2008 1:13 pm ET

Totally blind when it comes to foreign policy. Ignorant about a major religion. Running a negative campaign while touting his 'christianity'. Crosses legal picket lines to ingratiate himself with Leno (and rightfully called a scab for doing so).

Are there any depths to which this lame excuse for a man will not go?

Dem from MI   January 3rd, 2008 12:41 pm ET

Having been raised in MI and now residing in MO, I can easily say that the unions have had there day. I have been witness to the destruction of once proud metropolitan areas by the corruption and greed brought by unions. I admit, in their day, unions stood up for what was right, honest wages for honest work, and no more child labor. But now, the greed is driving up the cost of goods, and driving away jobs. Can we really call Detroit the "Motor City" any longer?

See comments regarding fulfilling God's plan for Israel and the West
according to Christian Right.? Note comments regarding Huckabee
December 21, 2007

The Huckabee Stool
It’s hard work building a right-wing coalition. Mike Huckabee has been
hammering away at the religious-right base, making explicit appeals based on
his faith and reminding them that he is one of them. He’s signed Grover
Norquist’s tax pledge and embraced the “FairTax” to shore up support from
the economic right. He’s even gotten an endorsement from the co-founder of
the anti-immigrant vigilante group the Minutemen. But all that may not be
enough when you have Pat Robertson come around telling your people to vote
for Giuliani because terrorism is supposed to be the most important issue.

It seems there’s one more faction Huckabee needs to pander to: the
foreign-policy hardliners. That would explain Huckabee’s plans for this
weekend: The former pastor will spend the Sunday before Christmas speaking
at two services at the Cornerstone megachurch in San Antonio, home of
Armageddon advocate John Hagee, who believes “that the United States must
join Israel in a pre-emptive military strike against Iran to fulfill God's
plan for both Israel and the West.”

For a closer look at Hagee, check out Max Blumenthal’s report from the
Christians United for Israel conference this past summer. Or, if you’re
wondering what Huckabee might be expected to discuss at Cornerstone, watch
this typical sermon, which aired Wednesday on TBN:

Right now, the State Department is in Israel putting pressure on Israel to
give concessions to the terrorist armies that are camped on her borders–to
give up more land for peace. Joel 3:2 says, “Any nation that tries to get
Israel to divide my land, I will bring it into judgment.”

I want those of you in the State Department and in government in
Washington to hear this: If America does not stop pressuring Israel to give
up land, I believe that God will bring this nation into judgment, because I
believe what this book says. And if God brings this nation into judgment, He
will very likely release the terrorists that you've already let get here
through the ridiculous immigration policy you refuse to stop, and this
nation is going to go through a bloodbath that you have permitted because of
what you have done. You have disobeyed the law of God, and now, we as a
nation are going to pay a price for that.

Think if Obama is doing this……

Melissa   January 3rd, 2008 12:20 pm ET

Heaven help America if Mike Huckabee is elected. He has a terrible record as governor, he has a degree in Theology, he is clueless about world affairs (and that's WITH advisors who are supposed to help him.)

He raised taxes like crazy, let murderers out of jail, and supported giving the children of illegal immigrants scholarships! Why are people considering him? Because he's funny? Because they think they can trust him? He has lied through his teeth for the entire week. Read more about him, and you will quickly see he is not what he purports to be.

yofrient   January 3rd, 2008 11:52 am ET

Good example of how unions work. It looks like the loyal union writers who are picketing are being screwed by the loyal union writers writing for Worldwide pants.

rich   January 3rd, 2008 11:44 am ET

You guys are really failing the American public. I hear nothing about what the candidates are saying. All I hear is what 'experts' think of their chances and what the polls show. I don't care! I can't make an informed decision without information. Do your job. Report the facts. Leave the opinions to us. Less commenting and more reporting. Please!!!!!

Glenn Doty, Columbia, SC   January 3rd, 2008 11:40 am ET

production "clompany"?

Thanks for the careful proofreading.

BTW, for those who actually care about a non-biased reporting of the election rat race, there was a second poll released just today that shows Obama has a lead outside the margin of error. This one is Zogby, who is considered far more accurate than Gallup.

Of course, the Des Moines Register poll, which CNN still refuses to report, is considered the most accurate predictor, and that has Obama in a very large lead.

AJ, IC, IA   January 3rd, 2008 11:39 am ET

Mike huckabee was for the writers strike before he was against it…. or was it against it before he was for it… Aww.. I don't know and I doubt Mike even knows.
