(CNN) - Mike Huckabee and Chuck Norris may be the political odd couple of this campaign season, but now Republican presidential contender Mitt Romney is trying to use the action star to try to score points against the former Arkansas governor.

In a new Web video, "Roundhouse kick," the Romney campaign uses the format that's become familiar over several weeks of anti-Huckabee spots. "Two good men, both into fitness. Both love Chuck Norris," says the announcer.

"But where do they stand on crime? Chuck Norris: 'give a presidential pardon to no one, ever.' Norris subdues criminals with just an icy stare."

"And Mike Huckabee? He granted 1,033 pardons and commutations, including 12 convicted murderers. Huckabee granted more clemencies than the previous three governors combined. Chuck Norris, Mike Huckabee. Now who deserves the roundhouse kick?"

The ad comes just hours after a blogger at a Huckabee campaign event asked the martial arts star, "How much do you want to roundhouse kick Mitt Romney?"

Norris responded, laughing: "No, I don"t roundhouse kick. I choke," reminding reporters of an interview with CNN's Larry King where he'd criticized the Romney campaign and said he'd "just like to choke those guys out." He added later that "truthfully, I hate negative campaigning."

I believe that the time for a person like Mike is now! what I find the funniest of this who political campaign and many past ones is every one is ageist the strong Christian believer who makes it know how they believe and dose not down play it in the lest. Is the US populace that strong ageist Christianity because Christianity dose not allow immoral behavior or life styles? Have we degenerated that far? What happened to the days of morels not having to be legislated but some thing we all believed in and lived? What happened to honesty and electing people based on whom and were there coming from not who they know or how well connected in the circle of Washington they are. What happened to electing the best person for office not the one with the most money to spend on ads for a 30 second sound bite! How about supporting some one who stands behind there beliefs and dose not change sides as the wind or polls blow! I can see that many posting here when I read between the lines are afraid of a morel and faith based personality winning and running this country as the founding fathers would like to have seen! That’s not what we have had for years and years now

One week before Super Tuesday & after FLorida.

If John McCain is to be defeated, then Huckabee should bow out to Romney now.
Huckabee gave it a good shot, but McCain is winning off the 3-way split.
It's time to narrow the field, unless you want a 72 year old liberal whose
done nothing for alll his time in office. And if McCain does get it, aside from the war, you might as well vote for democtrat to give some fresh air to Washington .

I have to agree "Is Chuck Norris runnng for First Lady" he is more on stage than the Huckster's wife!!

A hanger-on if there ever was one. Him and the "Holy One" – she has the manner's of "Dog The Bounty Hunter".

Now that would be a very good team. Wow "She" has the Holy Spirit reining inside her,I wonder what else is there? Maybe a few "Mackerals" up her or inside her.

Where were Chuck"s eyes when he said that she was the Most Beautiful Woman that he ever Saw? Wher are his brains now that he endorses "Huck", hiding under a rock or behind a tree or under the bed where he found "God"?

Maybe Mike & Chuck read the Bible together and pray for the election results to sway in the Huckster's direction! Yeah right!!!!!!!!!!

Carl   January 21st, 2008 8:13 pm ET

First he thawked the Total Gym with "Holy Mackeral" – man what a spoof!! Now he's out there hawking Huck . What next for the Over The Hill Gang Member? sell more religion? The hoier than thou just goes so far ,enough said.

Looking for another White House invite, the Dynamic Duo looked like an ad for disaster relief! When is Chuck going to hang up his spurs? Make another Total Gym commercial but leave the Holy One out of it!

Maybe she should go back and have her cervix re-opened – then hang out a sign that says "COME TO THE GRAND OPENING!"

Do blondes that dye their hair have more fun?

The worst thing that Chuck Norris did was to endorse Mike Huckabee. Is he going to preach the country into PEACE?

I agree with Chuck Norris we need a MAN in the White House who is for moral values. I'll vote for Huckabee

Brian in Colorado   January 12th, 2008 10:18 pm ET

I know that our country needs someone with the sense of timing and stability to amswer questions with truthfulness and integrity and Mike Huckabee did display perfect form in his overall demeanor . I thought for a man under fire by the liberal foolish media that he was proving and has been proving he is totaly capable of doing what a leader should be expected to do LEAD NOT FOLLOW.
He is a mans man and if we are wise we will not listen to our fears, but instead listen to the obvious good that this fine person displays in both charrecter and attitude. which by the way I have not seen in any of the other candidates .

TC,

The "etc" pretty well refers to his religious related creds... I covered them pretty broadly, so I suppose I didn't need the etc-but, being you asked nicely....he has also stated that he is in favor of strong national defense, and in favor of shutting down the open borders, and pursuing Bin Laden right into pakistan. I don't care about the scholarship for the children of immigrants who excel. We are a traditionaly meritocracy, and if we got some whizbang kid out of illegal guatemalan parents who can beat out American kids in math and science, sign him up! I want him to be an american competing for us not against us. We used to do things like that-compete for the best and brightest from the world. Think einstein and oppenheimer...Plus, I think the fairtax, while not a big business government favorite, is a populist conservative issue because it deals terminally with a massive pain in the side to small business-the IRS. As a small business owner, it is ridiculous what you have to do to employ somebody. It is a wasteful, inefficient, intimidating, and counterproductive institution that could be replaced easily for Tens of billions of less dollars. Cut expenses and spending, and there is no need to raise taxes. Raise revenue by encouraging harder work, or more work, and there is no need to raise taxes for those social programs the softies require. More work means more money means more discretionary income means more consumption means more tax revenue. Simple process. By the way, the big hullaballoo about him raising taxes – I am so tired of pointing this out to people who don't do research-WAS BECAUSE THE SUPREME COURT SAID THEIR SCHOOLS WERE UNCONSTITUTIONAL AND NEEDED TO BE ENHANCED! It was going to be done, regardless, he just made that speech to the legislature to tell him in what area he would okay the tax hike. He was just telling legislators what lifeboat to get in, he couldn't stop the ship from sinking.

I think many of you "a conservative's conservative" are missing the point. I am sorry, but your boat ain't full for this election. Where is your candidate? Offer one up that can be elected. I would rather have an authentic moderate republican who can be elected, than be stuck with Edwards 39% capital gains tax, or Clinton's heavy-handed power-mongering, or Obama's inexperience in dealing with internal politics and tax heavy approach to problem-solving. There aren't enough complete conservatives to win a general, and the only way to win is to peel off moderate dems. Sorry, but you guys are the ones gumming up the works. You want to throw a duncan hunter out there as a true conservative, and he is a good-no, great man- but he is entirely unelectable. The funny thing I see with your wing of the conservative party is that you keep throwing candidates (Like Huckabee) off our boat for one minor discrepancy or other, until you have no one left to work with! Who are you going to run for president that is your version of a republican? Thompson? Who is going to wake him up for his press briefing? It will cost a fortune to employ his minders...The younger repubs in this country have already come to the realization that the best way to keep dems quiet is to give them a few toys to play with, so the business of running the country can be accomplished without their whining. You far righters do nothing but provoke them, rattling the monkeys' cages, so to speak, with your "line in the sand", "with us or against us", "my way or the highway" attitude. We just want them quiet long enough for real work to be done. Give them environmental reform, and some health care components, and start us moving out of Iraq, and they will spend years glorifying themselves with it, just like aging Hippies do, so the world can be reshaped in a conservative image. We are unfortunately, going to get thumped in the next congressionals because we now are perceived as "obstructionist", and unwilling to cooperate. That is embarrassing, because we are supposed to be better about that stuff than the kneejerk wing of the dems. Power went to your heads, people, and it was overused, or at least in your name. Money and power are both currency; invest it wisely and it grows, spend it foolishly, and it is gone forever. The current administration has left us with little of either, frankly, and we are going to have ask for some from the moderate dems, whether you far righties like it or not.

Huckabee "has social conservative credientials on abortion, marriage, religion, etc"

axistogrind, I would sure like to know what that "etc" is. I can't find too many other conservative credentials other than he knows how to shoot a gun and, that, my friend, doesn't make one a conservative (many hunters, retired military, etc. are on the D side of the aisle). My reading of the Huckster's record places him somewhere in between Harry Reid (who has policy positions that are the same as Huckster's or a little to the right of Huckster in most instances - and he's the leader of which party in the Senate? Oh yeah, the Dems) and Jimmy Carter on the social conservative spectrum and left of both of them on just about any other issues.

Huck is definitely left of Bush (who is fairly left on big government and fiscal matters). Except for abortion and gay rights, he is also left of Giuliani on basically every issue of the day. Huckster is left of McCain, Hunter, Thompson and Romney across the board.

Huckabee is a RINO. He tries to pretend that being a pastor makes him a conservative Republican - it may make him a conservative Christian in matters of theology but it does not make him a Conservative Republican. He's a bleeding heart anti-law and order, pro-taxation, big government liberal. Huckabee is left of numerous members of the Democratic party. Republicans should kick him out of the Republican field. He should go caucus with the Dems where he belongs.

Upper midwest   January 3rd, 2008 6:58 pm ET

Are you kidding me? Chuck Norris stay on the movie set. Huckabee is a great experienced public speaker, well prepared, his tone, body language and mannerisms are perfect(Obama take a lesson here), he knows what to say but more importantly he knows ‘how to say’ things people like. His speech the other day was one of the best I’ve heard, until he talked about same sex marriage and right to life. Then he started talking how our military and civil leadership should act in military operations, it was right from Sun Tzu’s ‘Art of War’. I couldn’t help but laugh, this guy wants to be my Commander and Chief. Anybody in sales can tell you how slick this guy is being. His strange behavior and actions continue to baffle me, I can’t believe how easily so many simple minded people are taken in by his ‘decent guy’ act. Soon he will show his true self or screwup. Forget Romney & Hilary too, if the biggest latest poll issue was cow crap they’d be telling us all about it and how to fix it.

judy in michigan   January 3rd, 2008 6:30 pm ET

I have enjoyed reading this blog, with our Michigan primary only 12 days away. I want to thank axistogrind for their thoughtful, precise comments.

This man Huckabee is a total connundrum in today's political climate: he's likeable, transparent, quick-witted, self-affacing and has the experience [as governor] to be president. Personally, I'm hoping for a McCain-Huckabee ticket, as I believe it will be more than capable of beating any combination the Dems nominate.

Now, it's time to go and eat supper for this newsjunkie gramma of almost 75! Let's all enjoy the Iowa returns.

axistogrind   January 3rd, 2008 4:54 pm ET

You know, its kind of funny what Susan Estrich said that Huckabee is a democrat's dream, and I don't think she quite caught the double meaning. So many of you have pointed out that Huckabe is "too liberal" for you, but he absolutely has social conservative credientials on abortion, marriage, religion, etc. Well, lets look forward to a potentional Huckabee nomination (don't have a conniption, this is just supposition) Huckabee is an evangelical conservative, but he also has a centrist compassionate streak a mile wide. Democrats near the center have proven election after election for years that they actually prefer being led by conservative leaning politicians-how else would we have so many years of Republican presidencies? So, here is a guy in Huckabee who has governed against the Demcrat grain in Arkansas, quite successfully, and displayed a great amount of compassion for the less fortunate. For estrich to say he is a democrat's dream, yes, he kinda is-he is a responsive leader to a great many people, regardless of party, a communicator, and doesn't govern from the far right, and lots of democrats voted for him and kept him in office for over 10 years! Many democrats are not dyed blue in the wool like estrich, and Huckabee will get a fair share of those "claim to be democrat, but quietly vote conservative for president" kind of dem. Huckabee is being thrashed by the neocon press for not being conservative enough, and is holding up. The establishment hates this guy, and doesn't want to see him in, and are pulling no punches, all of which makes him more acceptable to centrist repubs like me. Yeah, estrich, Hucakbee is a democrat's dream, because moderate dems can vote for him, and not have to feel like they are hurting the middle class.

Before anyone else writes anything else, first watch the video. It looked like a nice attempt at putting some humor into the campaign by Mitt's group, but too bad so many people are taking it so emotionally. I didn't see it as an attack or put down to either Huck or Chuck as much as just a light way to point out the HUGE discrepency in the position of the two, which was funny in and of itself. I'm not surprised Chuck wants to choke Mitt after being called on something that obvious.

I've been watching this election now for some time now undecided, and I'm neither Republican or Democrat. I didn't even vote in the last two elections, but I'm definely going to this time. It's amazing how often the media seems to get side-tracked by all these stories which stray so far away from the issues. That's what I'm sticking with: the issues, as well as how the candidates handle themselves thoughout the election.

One thing does seem clear to me and that is no one has been attacked more in this election (especially at the personal level) more than Mitt Romney (including all the attacks that he is doing the most attacking). But when I took a look at his so-called attack adds, they actually seem much less negative than just comparative, and certainly nothing like some of the negative adds I've seen in past elections which have been such a turn off to politics. I think Mitt has kept things fairly clean considering how much he has taken. This seems to lend him more of a Presidential demeanor than the other fielders at this point.

mike kaplan   January 3rd, 2008 4:31 pm ET

Man, I don't know what stupider about this story: the fact that Romney invokes an actor endorsing the other guy for a pathetic commercial.....the fact that Romney has spent 6 million dollars for 90,000 voters in the Iowa caucus......the fact that anyone takes Pastor Huckabee seriously as a possible president......or the fact that any of you would care who Chuck Norris endorses or what he thinks. IF he actually thinks.

Karen   January 3rd, 2008 4:18 pm ET

This is sad. First of all the focus should be on the candidates, not on who one (or more) celebrities decide to endorse. It is their right to back whoever they want – are all these people slamming Chuck because his opinion gets attention and theirs doesn't? Smacks of jealousy to me.

I would not vote for Romney because of the nasty vitriolic comments he has made about entire groups of individuals – in this case, Democrats. I have voted both Republican and Democratic over the years and aside from the current administration, no one has polarized me so completely against them than Mitt Romney because of his slimeball tactics. And his team had the opportunity to respond to me. I posted on his website and included my email and phone and told him exactly what I thought but it wasn't worth the effort to correct any misconceptions I had (apparently because there were none...) because I never heard a peep from his campaign. And since then his ads and comments have just gotten nastier.

I have more respect for Huckabee and would vote for him before Romney hands down. I have seen all the hubub about the pardons and I have heard the responses that the Governor did not have the power to overturn or overrule a pardon. I will research that to find out if it is the truth because if it is, this is more inaccurate reporting about the circumstance.

And as a guitarist – GET OVER IT Bass players. It is a Bass GUITAR. Take a breath and chill. AGGGGHHHHH!

WOW! Everybody has an opinion. Everybody thinks their opinion is...'SO' intelligent! I just read through all of these posts and came to the conclusion that people really like to think highly of themselves. How funny to read people who HAVE all the answers, KNOW all the details and only a handful of people who will read them. Oh, to have a wider audience!

sal lincoln nebraska   January 3rd, 2008 3:42 pm ET

Why dosnt anyone point out that the republicans can only get old washed up actors and comedians to support them...In my opinion i would rather not have them at all, whos basing their vote on who WALKER endorses...Has anyone seen his movies? To chucks credit he does have missing in action what an amazing film but its not 1992 and no one on this page except me has seen it...They also poop around Dennis Miller if anyone remembers he carrer went down hill since John Stewart and Bill Maher and Al Franken took over because there alot better at what they do, he took the only avilable job talking up anything the republicans do and supporting the troops...There not very classy and no one is really buying into it no matter what the "random" Opinon polls say

Dave   January 3rd, 2008 3:16 pm ET

When I look across the field of candidates both Democrat and Republican and I listen to the rhetoric of candidates and those of us making comments, I really have to question what our expectations are for the highest leadership office of this great country.

How should we express those expectations? Is it by attacking our opponents for human errors that all of us make such as saying something inappropriate when under pressure? Is is by attacking someone's record by using a very broad brush and distorting both motive and fact? Perhaps we should attack the personal or personality characteristics of the candidates while wasting time and opportunity to address more important factors. I would suggest that such a focus is a major distraction or even distortion that simply leaves Americans wondering what a given candidate would really do as President.

The track record of past performance and decisions is important to understand but only in the close scruntiny of available context facts as well. Most Americans can and will make good decisions when supplied with accurate information.

I, for one, and perhaps you, should expect, even demand, accurate journalistic reporting of candidate response to very tough questions of importance to the Nation not simply those things that sell. I call on every writer, interviewer, and reporter to exercise and stretch their collective talent and influence toward insisting that candidates meaningfully address critical issues. No I am not simply seeking "promises" from candidates but rather demanding well thought out responses that offer at least some possibility of solutions to such issues. Such answers do not have to be given instantly if both interviewers and candidates exercised candid, careful communiction techniques.

None of us should expect a candidate to have the perfect answer or even answers that all of us would agree upon.

Wasting our own time and the time of others to debate the merits of a given supporter such as a given movie star instead of focusing on the tough questions and responces makes the campaign far more a popularity contest than what should be one of the most important decisions and votes we will ever make as citizens of this great United States of America.

Our free press has astounding opportunity in the world to make this political campaign become a forced exercise of statesmanship for both candidate and press. The question I must ask is do we, as a nation, have the will to demand it and will our media and candidates accept the challenge of such an adventure.

Time will tell! You and I as citizens should expect far more than is currently being asked.

Dave

Huckabee crossing picket line at the Leno show will help the 75+ people livehood that the 2 or 3 writers of the show crashing for their own benefits. While i sympathy the writers but their action has a greater impact to the workers than the head honcho of the station. If you look at Huckabee record IN CONTENT, you ll see he had great respect for workers while he was governor. In fact, if you look at his record IN CONTENT, you ll find a lot of his accomplishment were taken out of content to make him look bad.

- Most of the Tax increase were Democrat led legislator and/or voter approved which was spent on highways , bridges (anyone remember the recent bridge collapse), schools, and Medicare
- Governor Huckabee CUT 94 taxes
- On ethics, all of the complaints filed against Governor Huckabee in the state of Arkansas were regularly dismissed and / or proven to be frivolous (most of them were filed by the Democrat activist)
- Everyone keep saying Governor Huckabee parole that "Killer" and looking at the record it was a Democrat led parole board who granted the parole 2 years after Huckabee 4 times had denied Wayne DuMond clemency
- Governor Huckabee was among the Top Governor of the US in 2006.
- i wouldn't put to much credit on the Club for Growth report. Jackson T. "Steve" Stephens Jr, one of the CFG's biggest donors and organization officials is a longtime political rival of Governor Huckabee. CFG received over 1 million dollars plus from steven.

I'm an Iowan weary of political ads, visits, and phone calls, but I would like to say that it appears that Huckabee is the only one really throwing slime around. He does it in his sweet, oh-so-innocent, softspoken manner and sometimes it is barely detectable, but it's there, nonetheless. Romney's ads are factual and comparative; Huckabee is a master of innuendo and folksy little jabs. Christian? I have a hard time seeing it!

axistogrind   January 3rd, 2008 3:09 pm ET

Some of you are so vitriolic it is hard to take you seriously. I love the line from the Star Wars movie: "Only the Sith deal in absolutes." It has great meaning. No one is 100% right or wrong, except extremists or misguided people. Huckabee and Romney are both decent people, and I would dare say better people than 90% of the posters on this blog, starting off with me. Somebody made a good point about "state your case and let the people decide." That is what the elections are supposed to be about. Point out faults and flaws, make value judgements for sure, but why skewer better men then yourself? That kind of behavior is what makes you lesser men and women.

Romney is a good man, and a successful executive, and he passes the neighbor test, except that most people can't afford to be his neighbor. He is a decent family man, and I could vote for the guy. But I hope I don't have to, because I don't find him someone that I would go to battle for..he has the brilliance but not the charisma to be a leader, and will be unable to bend people to his vision in the white house or in the election, because he doesn't have even Bush's empathy skill; he doesn't seem like a guy that has been to front lines and eaten dirt when the bullets were flying. He's an adjutant staff officer in the rear, with a crisply pressed uniform, wondering where he should go on his weekend pass, to Paris or London. Bush, whether it was true of him or not, seemed like a ditch digger, whether because he had been a drinker, or because his syntax and pronunciation were suspect, I don't know, but he had a certain commonness that the electorate could relate to. Romney can't, the uniform will never be dirty in many people's minds, despite his incredible achievements and obvious talents. He doesn't really seem to have a true vision, just what vision the polls say he should have. Maybe he does have vision, but if he does, he is covering it with the mask of a far right conservative, which he is not. More's the pity that he chose to wear it; he may have been an exceptional candidate had he run as himself. He is only a stalking horse with the mask on. He has great character except for one possibly fatal flaw: he was afraid to be himself.

I would tell you that best conventional scenario for Huckabee and probably us as a country is that he takes a VP role under McCain for four years, and then runs for president, having gained some foreign policy knowledge, and "big capitol" experience, but it doesn't always work out the way you would plan. Huckabee has found a chord now (no pun about his bass playing intended) with many in middle america, including many of us who are non-evangelical. I am an urban catholic, and not a particularly devout one, and a small busines owner who has provided jobs in this country, but have found the system so odious and heavy handed that I have gone back to being a small shop where I am the only one working. It just was ridiculous that in order to hire an assistant, she would spend half the week absorbed by payroll and employment regulation issues to work for me. I do better by myself, which is a crying shame, because I was a good and generous boss, and provided a nice family friendly work environment and good wages. But, I grew tired of being punished for being productive. I can get behind this guy's vision for updating the tax code, providing more incentive for people to work harder instead of punishing them for it, and governing with compassionate conservatism, which Bush promised he was, and instead turned out to be a one-trick pony: a nation-builder.. The difference is Huckabee lived poor at one time, and we who have dragged ourselves up by our bootstraps know that many people given a chance will do the same, and understand that he does want to give those of us not born with a silver spoon a chance to make it.

I guess Ohagi, if you think that makes me and a broad swath of middle america white trash, so be it, because there may be a barbecue in the rose garden, but at least with this guy, everyone's invited to it, unlike the elitist candidates on both the left and right. It may not be Camelot, but I believe a Huckabee White House will strive to give middle america a chance by removing obstacles if we wish to ascend. If it takes a triple wide trailer on the White House Lawn to do it, well too bad for you smug elitists.

France's revolution happened when the overly rich and powerful lost connection with the average folks, most succinctly demonstrated by the "let them eat cake" response by Marie Antoinette to the shortage of bread. Washington has been telling us that for at least the last 20 years, and us knuckledraggers are tired of it. National pundits like Matthews have it wrong with Huckabee: He certainly has his religious base, but what sets him apart to people like me is the sheer humanity of the man, complete with his faults and frailties on display. He is Us writ large, in all of our broke-down car driving, faux pas making, high-society fearing glory, and there a a lot of us. Don't think for a second that he doesn't reach other people not enamored with his religion. I could care less about him being a baptist preacher; it cuts no ice with me. Many poor baptists I have met consider catholicism a cult, but I take no offense for this ignorance. I do like that it gave him a sense of humor and quick wit that will serve him well in communicating with both allies and enemies. He has game. With apologies to the recent movie, and I guess John McCain as well, I am not Legend, because I am not alone among non-evangelicals in this view of him. I am only hoping for a Victory tonight, not praying, as the cynical press would have the world believe.

All of you saying that Mitt Romney does too much negative campaigning are full of it. Everyone saying that they wouldn't vote for him because he is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints obviously don't know the church that well. That church does more humanitarian work than all other church's in the US combined. I would never vote for huckacrap because he was a former pastor. Are you kidding me! He sounds like a pastor when he speaks. I couldn't do it, NO WAY. I will never vote for Mike Huckabee...the only reason he is even close to romney is becuase of his religion...if you want to know what a true Christ-like person is like, look at Mitt Romney. Why do they even have a Huck story. Didn't CNN see how he said if you dont vote for him you will be dead. His kid hung a dog and sliced its throat and got away with it. He gives money to illegal aliens while americans cannot afford health care
because our taxes support welfare for all the illegtals in this country. Cnn your a joke.

Have you seen the ad? It's hilarious! Who hasn't told a good chuck norris joke in their time. "Norris subdues criminals with just an icy stare." That was the best part. Clever and funny and it gets the point across regarding huckabee being soft on crime as well as speaks to college-aged voters. 10 points for Romney just for being Awesome.

Lisa   January 3rd, 2008 12:55 pm ET

Wow – it sounds as if Romney is writing some of these responses. How does Romney's or Huckabee's campaign comes down to what his supporters look like? Now people attack Norris because he is supporting Huckabee? You should ask yourself why someone like Mitt Romney is so interested in getting being sidetracked from the issues? He stirring up the pot and people fall for it, rather than looking more closely at him.

L.A., CA   January 3rd, 2008 12:43 pm ET

Over 30 years ago I was a kid watching Chuck getting minced into pieces by Bruce Lee in movies, and that was entertaining. Now, all these years later, seeing the guy with the same hair cut, hair color, winkle free and botoxed, he looks unnaturally younger than my age, and I'm athletic and in great shape. But when people go to this extent to make themselves look like something they're not (in his case 35 years younger) I can't help but laugh and not take them seriously. So, Chuck, unfortunately the only way to achieve eternally youthful looks is what happened to the guy who kicked your butt thirty some years ago in that movie, and die young. Before we can take you seriously you have to stop with all the cosmetics and beard paint. Age gracefully, not cosmetically. It makes you look foolish.

John Salt Lake City Utah   January 3rd, 2008 12:42 pm ET

LRS LA,CA   January 3rd, 2008 12:32 pm ET

Have you noticed that behind every candidate there is some special interest group or celebrity endorsement..... Obama has oprah ....Why would she give Sen. Obama a favorable nod....because he`s Black?....Certainly not because of his accomplishments. The Mormon church is probably rooting for Mitt Romney too. Why...because he is Mormon. Why Chuck Norris would endorse Huckabee will remain an enigma.
Personally I dont care who`s behind who as long as they can do the job. Pointing out a rival candidates ineffective leadership and failed policies is what they are suppose to do. Its election time. Candidates slam away......honestly. When all of the finger pointing and eye gouging is over it will be up to us to decide who is the most honest and sincere individual. What really ticks me is the slamming of each others personal issues. That is just sleazy politics.
Not one of these so called candidates can say he or she has more experience or is more qualified to lead this country. Hillary says she has the experience.!!!!! At what washing and darning Bills socks.Everyone of our presidential candidates lack the experience to lead this country in domestic and foreign issues. Unfortunately it will be a learn as you go experience. The next leader of our great country will be another gamble that we will have to endure for four more miserable years.

i have seen a lot of people who are mad because chuck norris is helping micky huckabee. heres what i have to say about that. chuck norris is the man. i think he is one of the greatest heroes to ever grace the screen. he is very mean and tough. he has a good beard too. it looks menacing. he was born on march 10, 1940. i think if chuck norris choked mitt romney he would choke him. also did you ever see the episode of texas ranger where he fought the crooked truck driver then a crocodile came out and he fought him too? that was a good one. overall i think that chuck norris will make a very good vice president and i dont know why you people are getting worked up. micky huckabee has my vote because i know with a vice president like chuck norris no one can ever mess with the USA because they know he is a mean dude and one time he beat up a truck driver and a crocodile on the same day. also delta force 2 and invasion USA were good movies.

Lisa   January 3rd, 2008 12:07 pm ET

Charla, Texarkana TX   January 3rd, 2008 11:24 am ET

You know, Clinton may have been shady and immoral and untruthful, but I could afford gasoline and milk when he was in office. You have to wonder, stop and think, about what really matters in your day-to-day life.

By no means does that make me a Hillary supporter. I don't believe her. I don't believe she is compassionate and caring about anything but herself and her own career. The day will come when it is time for a woman to lead this country, but she is NOT the one.

Huckabee's intentions are there, but the experience is not. He was a political infant in Arkansas, and learned many hard lessons the hard way, made a ton of mistakes. He is a Christian, and I believe him – I believe he lives his life by his beliefs. I can respect that. What I also respect is that he respects my right to have my own beliefs. I am an athiest.

This Chuck Norris stuff is just cheesy, has no bearing on anything. Good for a laugh, but no real importance. Same for Oprah and all the other Hollywood hood. Seems pretty unethical to me, really, that people who know they have such influence over so many impressionable people through movies and television would even be allowed to endorse, stump, campaign for such an important election.

What we need is a president who is in tune to the needs and problems of the United States and its citizens. No more world police. Pay attention to this country for awhile. I haven't made up my mind yet who I'll be voting for. Could be Dem, could be GOP. The horizon is pretty dim either way. The more I see, the less I want to know. It's hard to pick through all the garbage to find the substance.

Nick Beck   January 3rd, 2008 11:24 am ET

Who needs Chuck Norris? I don't watch him now and I don't intend to in the future. I am not into him or his movies and now that he supports Huckabee I like him even less than I did before.

from the Washington Monthly, Dec 5, 07

WAYNE DUMOND....Are you familiar with the Wayne Dumond story? Here's the nickel summary: Dumond was convicted of raping a 17-year-old girl in 1984 and was sentenced to life in prison. This was in Arkansas while Bill Clinton was governor, and for a while nobody cared. But then, after Clinton was elected president, Dumond became a cause celebre for the Clinton-hating fever swamp. (Book version of conspiracy theory here. There's always a book.) Long story short, the rape victim was Clinton's second cousin once removed, and the fever swamp became convinced that Dumond was the innocent victim of (yet another) frameup by a vengeful and drug-crazed Clinton. In 1996, after being elected with plenty of help from the fever swamp, Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee announced that he thought Dumond should be set free. Subsequently, he met with the parole board and a few weeks after that Dumond was paroled.

Two years later Dumond was released from prison, and within weeks he sexually assaulted and murdered a 39-year-old woman in Kansas City. Huckabee was horrified, but said there was simply no way he could have known Dumond was dangerous. Today, Murray Waas says that's not the case:

Confidential files obtained by the Huffington Post show that Huckabee was provided letters from several women who had been sexually assaulted by Dumond and who indeed predicted that he would rape again — and perhaps murder — if released.

In a letter that has never before been made public, one of Dumond's victims warned: "I feel that if he is released it is only a matter of time before he commits another crime and fear that he will not leave a witness to testify against him the next time." Before Dumond was granted parole at Huckabee's urging, records show that Huckabee's office received a copy of this letter from Arkansas' parole board.

The woman later wrote directly to Huckabee about having been raped by Dumond. In a letter obtained by the Huffington Post, she said that Dumond had raped her while holding a butcher knife to her throat, and while her then-3-year-old daughter lay in bed next to her. Also included in the files sent to Huckabee's office was a police report in which Dumond confessed to the rape. Dumond was not charged in that particular case because he later refused to sign the confession and because the woman was afraid to press charges.

Huckabee kept these and other documents secret because they were politically damaging, according to a former aide who worked for him in Arkansas. The aide has made the records available to the Huffington Post, deeply troubled by Huckabee's repeated claims that he had no reason to believe Dumond would commit other violent crimes upon his release from prison.

Waas has more, including copies of the documents, over at the Huffington Post. The Dumond story is well known in Arkansas and never hurt Huckabee there. On the national stage, though, it might be a different story, especially in light of this new evidence. Huckabee's got some 'splainin to do.

Wow – Mitt Romney is so desperate. What's next? Ads about how Romney's spouse didn't cheat on him, and Hillary's did? Want to attack Oprah for supporting Obama? Since when do politicians attack the supporters of their opponents? Romney is a mean spirited, dishonest person.

One should ask – how many deaths sentencing did Romney oversaw? Zero! That is because MA doesn't have the death penalty. So why is he bugging out over Huckabee's state?

Well Chuck, join the club. When you stick your neck out for a candidate, especially one who is running on a "Guns and Jesus" campaign, then get ready to feel some of the heat in the kitchen.

Norris is an over the hill faker with dyed hair, dentures and a face lift who hasn't been seen doing a roundhouse kick in 15 years. Right now, his leg would only go as high as Romney's groin. He's the perfect celebrity for a phony like Huckabee who turns out a negative ad while proclaiming that he's not turning out a negative ad, and who set up a wedding registry for the purpose of receiving bribes in office.

I'm a lifelong martial artist who has been a fan of Chuck's since I saw his first movie (when it debuted) with Bruce years ago but can't back him on this one. I think he is intitled to his opinion and vote like anyone else though and respect it.

David, Boca Raton   January 3rd, 2008 9:53 am ET

Romney's negative ads have been shown to be inaccurate even through the liberal eyes of CNN. Romney accusing anyone of being inconsistent is laughable. He is so inept that despite the money his campaign has, he is still trailing significantly in national polls and has to resort to negative ads against two good Americans in Huckabee and McCain. Huckabee carried out the death penalty 16 times, that is hardly soft. It's the largest number in his state's history. Romney can compare his criminal stance to Huckabee once he has faced that difficult decision.

I don't understand how anyone could vote for an individual whose campaign is ineptly run and whose stance on issues change so radically depending on the time of audience he speaks to or the political position he aspires to next.

adam dickenson   January 3rd, 2008 8:58 am ET

Hi CNN – Guitars have six strings; basses have four. Huckabee is hold a bass in this photo. If you can't tell the difference between a bass and a guitar (or at least call it a bass guitar if you have to), then how do I know the rest your reporting is accurate?

Mike - Midwest USA   January 3rd, 2008 8:37 am ET

Romney as President? Can you picture that? Me neither.

Jeff from Jersey   January 3rd, 2008 8:36 am ET

Huck,Chuck,Mitt,Rudy,McClain,Fred,Hillary,Edwards,Obama and not a single good actor among them. You may as well vote for Johnny Dep,Meryl Streep or Jack Nicholson. At least they are good at what they do.

After reading the posts you DID post,it's ridiculous that CNN censored this one.How is this going to offend anyone nearly as much as censorship does, except for maybe Dep,Streep or Nicholson? The sad truth is that any of them ARE better at what they do than anyone in the first paragraph is at what THEY do.In my opinion one of the candidates are the "right one" for the most important job in the world at one of the most crucial times in history.I'm just being honest but I guess that doesn't count for much at any level anymore.

What's the matter CNN?Why can't you post the truth?

HH, Pittsburgh, PA   January 3rd, 2008 7:15 am ET

Trang of Fremont, CA, I admire your idealism. "Let the American people decide!" Decide what? These clowns running for office weren't picked by us. The next person in the White House will be one of two candidates that the Establishment chooses for us, because you can bet that a candidate that doesn't please the Establishment will never be the nominee of the Dems or Repubs, no matter how popular with the grass roots. How many times has the Electoral College selected a president for us that was not the choice of the majority vote? How many times have all of you wrung your hands wondering why we don't get better leaders who truly care for this country and its people? It's because THEY - the people with power - are the ones who ultimately do the choosing.

Ron Paul's minions are a joyless and humor-starved group of policy wonks. Just a little bit of flash and dash is enough to oil their mimeograph machines. Wonder why they were never invited to any parties?

Chuck Norris throwing his prestige behind a candidate of his choice does just one thing – attract attention to give Huckabee those precious few minutes to make an impression. No adult – excepting the childish ones – believes this election will be won with sound bites and balloons/confetti. But nobody will read the fine print unless there is something that draws us to a candidate.

Jay Bee, USA   January 3rd, 2008 2:45 am ET

Come everybody, pick the scab!!!!

Romney.. can't you just focus on what YOU can do better.. and HOW? Instead of spending all your money on trying to put down the other candidates?

Running a business (with off-shore money holdings) and being a Governor are not outstanding references for candidacy: President Bush touts the same. Hopefully America won't make that mistake again.

John   January 3rd, 2008 1:50 am ET

For those of you who think every republican believes in God and nothing else you have another thing coming. I don't like Huckabee because he believes in God and frankly I couldn't care less. I like him because he seems to care more about the issues at hand than someone like Romney. Huckabee might not have the best experience out there but he has a very clear vision of where this country needs to go. If you saw him on Leno tonight you can tell that this guy is America. Whether or we agree on who should be president we can all agree that this country should not be in the state it is now. On a side note a lot of people here take the endorsement by Norris too seriously. This guy is a pop culture icon, nothing more, Huckabee obviously knows that he is immensely popular with the young vote, he might be friends with him but he doesn't represent Mike Huckabee.

How pathetic. Meanwhile, America is on the cusp of a real economic crisis, as was indicated by the stock market today. And Americans are supposed to be lulled away to thinking a country bumpkin with a dimpled Gomer Pyle grin and a divinity degree will save us from meltdown with kitchy quips and "genuineness"?
Please America. You can't be this dumb again can you? The South has not had a very good track record for putting out good leadership in the Republican camp. The Hillary campaign will slaughter Huckabee if he gets the nod. It has been a known fact in close circles that Romney is the most feared by the Clinton Machine.

Huckabee should consider a career in stand-up as Arkansas won't take him back!

After he released OVER ONE THOUSAND criminals without any legal education and poor decision making!!

In Arkansas Mike's decisions could not hurt us much, but if he were to lead our nation, no one knows the impact!

I recall the embarrasment when President did the same during his last days as President….he owed people favors and he set criminals free to settle the score!

I don't think Mike is funny…..I don't think he could lead our nation…..we will never know of course. If Huckabee wins nomination, it will be Clinton/Obama 2008.

No Thanks to "Holy Joe Huckabee" and his "Side Kicks"....I dont like what he stands for, what he did as govorner of Arkansas, how he handled himself in the Debates, and his pandering to the knuckle-dragging Fantacy Freeks following in this country. Some of us see right thru his agenda and its not good for America...this is a nation of many people of color, religions ,and creeds and to push one "agenda" on the whole is simply Divisive and Wrong.....There is only One True Conservative in the pack for President and that Man is Fred Thompson.....We desperately need a Strong True Conservative to handle the problems we are suffering in this country today.......This election process is not a ring side seat to a wrestling match for our entertainment, as so many people see it, and rely on it as such to win their votes and considerations.....For Cripes Sakes People,,,,Grow Up for change and take this Process Serious!!

Scott Alexander   January 2nd, 2008 10:22 pm ET

If Chuck Norris supports a candidate like Huckabee, a man who has supported freeing convicted rapists and setting up detention camps for AIDS patients, then that says a lot about the character of Chuck Norris. I guess we should've known though from the fact that Chuck campaigned for George W. Bush and look where that's gotten our country.

An actor who campaigns for good morality in his TV show and movies goes and campaigns for men who've shown little to no morality. Go figure.

I don't care if Huck is a Chuck Norris toting weirdo who can barely play Sweet Home Chicago on the bass. I like him. Mitt on the other hand terrifies me. Wow, he's cool. He plays bass and hangs out w CHUCK NORRIS! He's got my vote!!!! He also is the only candidate who has the guts to stand up with O'Reilly for Christmas. He's a culture warrior and an American hero!!!!!!

Ralph Guardino Ames IA   January 2nd, 2008 9:26 pm ET

Gotta laugh at Roy from Salt Lake City, calling an anti Mormon commenter a bigot. Betcha old Roy can't wait to cast his vote for Willard the Mittmeister just because he's a blood brother in the Mo community. The majority of Utahns, so says the Deseret News, are already decided on their choice. Can anyone guess who makes up that majority and who their candidate might be? That's it, Willard the Temple Worthy Mittmeister gets the Mormon vote in Utah. Any bets on where old Roy from SLC stands? No, not Obama!

Jim in Orlando, FL   January 2nd, 2008 9:23 pm ET

What a bunch of whiners !! Last I heard, Rick Flair was planning to get down behind Romney, and then Chuck was going to push Mitt backwards !!! Kudos to Huck and Mitt for at least having a sense of humor through it all !!

Laurinda   January 2nd, 2008 9:03 pm ET

iT HAS COME TO MY ATTENTION THAT SOME PEOPLE HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IS WRONG WITH OTHER PEOPLE AND ARE CONSTANTLY GIVING DIFFERENT DIAGNOSIS AND TO TOP IT OFF THE FUTURE HUSBAND OF THIS MIS-DIAGNOSED PERSON IS GOING RIGHT ALONG WITH THIS. AS WE SAY IN NEW YORK: WE HAVE THE BLIND LEADING THE BLIND. ENOUGH SAID.

jay   January 2nd, 2008 9:01 pm ET

Hey you, don't crack a smile when you read these posts... Mitt says that the US Presidential campaign has to be treated with the utmost seriousness! Celebrity cameos, appearances on Leno or Letterman, or cracking a joke about Bush are signs that a candidate (usually Mike Huckabee) just doesn't get it and can't be trusted with the important business of running our great country.

Check your personality at the door!!!

In the above photograph you refer to Huckabee as playing a guitar. He is shown holding a electric bass. How can you screw up something so simple. Please for the love of God if you do not get anything else right at least get that right !!!! HOW CAN YOU BE SO UNBELIEVABLY IGNORANT ??? Signed a guitarist/bass player/Huckabee supporter !!!!

4 billion may not be accurate, but it’s not so far off the mark that it’s silly.
Financial costs with approximately $474 billion spent as of 12/07 the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) has estimated the total cost of the war in Iraq will be around $1.9 trillion.

Chuck,Huck,Thompsen,Mitt,Rudy,McCain,Obama,Edwards,Biden,Hillary and not a decent actor among them.Might as well vote for Johnny Dep,Morgan Freeman,Meryl Streep or Jack Nicholson. At least they are good at what they do.

The elite media and republican surrogates are “dancing in the street together” as they slam Huckabee every chance they can. It’s like watching someone who came from the wrong side of the tracks crash an elite social party in a well-to-do side of town.

Up with Huckabee! Down with the elite republicans and their talk show hosts attacking their own!

I feel sorry for all of you people that are bashing Chuck.... Once he gets wind of your comments its all over...

And here's why:

-The chief export of Chuck Norris is Pain.
-Chuck Norris has two speeds. Walk, and Kill.
-There is no chin under Chuck Norris' Beard. There is only another fist.
-The leading causes of death in the United States are: 1. Heart Disease 2. Chuck Norris 3. Cancer
-Chuck Norris doesn't go hunting.... CHUCK NORRIS GOES KILLING
-When the Boogeyman goes to sleep every night, he checks his closet for Chuck Norris.
-Chuck Norris can slam a revolving door.
-When Chuck Norris does a pushup, he isn’t lifting himself up, he’s pushing the Earth down.
-A picture is worth a thousand words. A Chuck Norris is worth 1 billion words.
-When an episode of Walker Texas Ranger was aired in France, the French surrendered to Chuck Norris just to be on the safe side.
-For some, the left testicle is larger than the right one. For Chuck Norris, each testicle is larger than the other one.
-Chuck Norris counted to infinity – twice.

When a presidential aspirant depends on a movie actor to attract the attention of voters, then he should forget about his ambition altogether. That only means there's nothing about him that would make voters listen to him or consider him for the most powerful job on earth.

Love it or leave... This is the process to elect the best person for President. Every man and woman has a choice to make, make it prayerfully and let God help us make the right choice. A lot of people have their own reasons (political, money, position of importantance, etc...) for who they like or dislike. None of this will matter for us as a nation if we get the wrong man in office.

–Go Mike Huckabee! Stay the course! Let God be your guide!

Mel, Rancho Mirage   January 2nd, 2008 7:31 pm ET

Hucky should ask Norris about his moral character – well known for keeping girlfriends in expensive apartments about town. Or should we ask Chucky's wife?

Staley Heatly   January 2nd, 2008 7:31 pm ET

I ran for district attorney in a rural area of Texas in November of 2006. Chuck Norris endorsed my opponent two weeks before the election. I won the election with 64% of the vote. I think that shows the extent of Chuck Norris's political influence. It is basically nil.

Huckabee may be playing to the conservative Christian crowd, but if dems think their candidates are "above that" they are kidding themselves. Obama, Clinton, and Edwards are all playing the "get out of Iraq free" card and is an equally sloppy tactic.

Ontopic: This commercial is childish. I don't understand why highlighting your personal views on issues isn't an appealing alternative to miopic slander.

Jeremy, Columbus OH   January 2nd, 2008 7:10 pm ET

Huck for President!! We need another one who has no clue about foreign policy, will turn this country into a real Theocracy, and just toss what is left of our standing in the world down the toilet. At least there is hope on the democratic ticket. Anyone on that side looks better than Huck.

There're even answers about the LDS Temple Garment there if you are truly interested. Unfortunatley you're bigotry and ignorance is quite obvious and I doubt your sincerity. What is wrong with the people in this country, including Mr. Norris. Mike Huckabee believes the world is only six thousand years old, and some of you idiots are prepared to vote for this nutcase.

Keith G   January 2nd, 2008 6:49 pm ET

Maybe Chuck should be the Vice-Prez candidate. Then Huck wouldn't even need a secret service detail!

Or if Huck wins, maybe the US will finally have access to someone that can find Bin Laden. Bin who? Oh yeah, that bad guy we used to be looking for.

Republican Space   January 2nd, 2008 6:38 pm ET

On the face of it, Mike Huckabee's candidacy seems pretty straight forward with all its stands, interactions, statements, and political warts. If Chuck Norris wants to support this how Amercian.
Mitt Romney appears to have money, political experience in the Bay state, and attempts to play hard ball with the same requiem that we have been treated with these past 8 years with attack ads and blank check negativity.
Republican or democrat should win this November's election it would be fantastic to understand what political promises and vision for the next 4 years without something marginal that becomes some quest for non-articulated mandates.
If Mike Huckabee raises the political angst in other camps it would be better for Mitt or any candidate to be transparent and better state his or her vision for a better united America.

tim slim   January 2nd, 2008 6:35 pm ET

First off, Musicman got to the real problem with this article.

Second, Huckabee gets my vote if he'll sell me that bass for a few hundred bucks.

I usually am polite and intelligent, but, everyone knows how much of a hypocrite you are with these "christian values" campaigns...Don't put yourself out there so much for the world to see.. because... sorry, but tell me again how you crawled (or or layed down your way) up theHollywood ladder Mr. Norris??

Yes.. so called "Christians".. What's good for them aint good for us... they hawk their ways until we are nauseated.

We're not ALL your moronic, "kick em in the butt, that'll teach em" fans. Norris is a hypocrite.. pure and simple. Mr.Huckabeee.. you are too. And you appeal to less intelligent folks who hurrah your cause instead of thinking for themselves.

Hey..all you need is the words "Christian, and Chuck Norris" and your a shoe in, right?

granthamicus   January 2nd, 2008 6:17 pm ET

You stupid Republicans should have paid more attention to Ron Paul. Now the Democrats will hand you your narrow-minded, bible-thumping, outrageously-corrupt, asses next November, no matter who gets the nomination.

Oh and make sure you run some more negative ads during the presidential election to disenfranchise and distance yourselves from even more people that are fed-up with the lies and misinformation that has become the Republicans' modus operandi for winning anything.

Bomb a few more debates like it's some sovereign third-world country and presto we have a different party in the White House that can begin to pick up some of the pieces.

TO ANYONE READING THIS THAT VOTED BUSH IN 04' ; SHAME ON YOU ALL.
- pay more attention and start taking more responsibility for yourselves and our collective political destiny, because of YOU that man was allowed to sit in the oval office and do NOTHING to improve this country. Shame on you.

Besides, until he can explain why Mormon women have some type of secret symbol on their underwear, I couldn't with a good conscious place this man in charge of our country.

Please Newt, run.

So, some Republicans will vote for whoever a has-been "star" with a bad wig and frightening face lift tells them to? Gee, I wonder why so many people see Republicans as out of touch with reality. Extremely hilarious yet terribly scary how idiotic our once great country has become. Really, people: Chuck Norris? I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

The only people on these boards pushing for Huck are the Dems who know Hilliary would crush him and have the Arkansas attack machine all over Huck Huck would not even win his own state in a national election
Mitt won in a state owned by Kennedy and Kerry. The only chance to stop Hilliary or Osama/Oprah in 08 is Mitt and Rudy and maybe both together on the same ticket.

Just saw this posted on Politico, seems that Huckabee's ghost just seems to keep following him. I thought he had moved past this, but they are still coming:
NEWS RELEASE MOTHER OF WAYNE DUMOND VICTIM DEMANDS GOV. HUCKABEE RELEASE ALL OF HIS GUBERNATORIAL RECORDS REGARDING WAYNE DUMOND
Ms. Lois Davidson issued a statement today through a newly formed 527 group named Victims Voice calling on Gov. Mike Huckabee to release his gubernatorial records regarding Wayne Dumond before the Caucus Elections on January 3, 2007. Ms. Davidson was surprised to learn of other victims who had written Gov. Huckabee warning him of the likelihood of Mr. Dumond committing repeat offenses if he were released. These letters were not in the records at the State Parole Board because they were letters sent directly to Governor Huckabee's office. These letters were made public due to the reporting of the Huffington Post(1) who obtained a copy of the letters from a former employee of Governor Huckabee. Ms. Davidson would like to know if any other letters were sent to Gov. Huckabee from former victims, prosecutors, victims advocacy groups or any one else. Ms. Davidson would also like to see copies of any internal memos that may explain the rationale for Mr. Huckabee's decision to support the release of Wayne Dumond. Additionally, in light of a recent report by National Review and others regarding Mr. Eugene Fields, whose sentence Gov. Huckabee commuted after Mr. Fields donated a substantial amount of money to the Republican Party of Arkansas(2); and the revelation that Wayne Dumond's wife's boss held a recent fundraiser for Gov. Huckabee(3), Ms. Davidson would ask Gov. Huckabee to release the donor lists to all of the "funds" which he received compensation from (Action America, Next Step Foundation, Twelve Stop Foundation, etc?)

I can't stand you liberals. Don't you ever tire or repeating the same thoughtless phrases such as "flag-wavin" and "chest-thumpin" to describe conservatives? Is there a single original thought in those pea-brains of yours?

Another one of my favorites is proclaiming someone a "so-called Christian". Who are you to judge someone's heart and spirituality? Judge not, lest you be judged yourself by the only One who counts.

GO HUCK & CHUCK!!!

And here we have yet another conservative trying to lump all us liberals together as if we're a single' monolithic mass incapable of independent thought. Well, berg, here's a clue for you – us liberals CAN and DO think for ourselves constantly. And as a result of those thought processes, we reject the narrow-minded, jingoistic, selvish, ignorant, and paranoid things that you conservatives hold so dear.

And keep religion out of this. Remember, there is no religion test for public office – it's in the Constitution, if you don't believe me. Religion has no place in politics.

Him bringing in Norris is tremendous. Where was he in the polls three months ago??? Not as high as he is now. Anyone in their 20's and 30's like myself have more respect for the guy because he is different. In this generation, that is exactly what is becoming. Keep it up Huckabee!!

Jonah, Boston MA   January 2nd, 2008 4:40 pm ET

Don't you Republicans see how little your candidates think of you? Don't you understand how they exploit and manipulate your basest instincts to maintain their icy death grip on power and to further their evil, greedy agendas? Don't you see how they are barely masking the fact that they don't care about you at all? I mean, come on– Chuck Norris? Chuck Norris?! The guy from Sidekicks?! This is almost like real-life political satire; a grand-scale piece of performance art designed to simultaneously point out the twisted mentality of Republican politicians and the blinding stupidity of the Republican voters. Can't you just see Huckabee sitting around with his advisors, when someone says: "Alright, we need an endorsement. Hey, you know what white trash inbred hillbilly losers really like? One-time b-movie action stars who are the subject of mildly clever internet one-liners that became unhip a year and a half ago. Get me Chuck Norris! Give him a few quotes to spout off about Jesus and we're golden."

Wake up people. The Democratic Party respects you. It's not about shrewd manipulation, greed, cronyism, hatred, and the blind lust for power. It's about helping make life okay for as many people as possible. Republicans– look how dumb your candidates think you are. Consider a change. If it takes allowing gay people to get married–which doesn't affect you at all–maybe that's not such a big sacrifice to make.

On April 11, 2001, Huckabee signed the "Covenant Marriage Act," which is a marriage contract that compels the couple to seek counseling if problems develop during the marriage, provides "limited" grounds for divorce or separation, and restricts lawsuits against spouses.

Huckabee said the law, "offers couples a chance to be held to a higher level of marital commitment." He and his wife converted to a covenant marriage in 2004.

In 2001 Huckabee urged student districts to allow students to pray and proclaimed October as "Student Religious Liberty Month."

Huckabee signed a $5.25 bed-tax on private nursing home patients in 2001.

Huckabee has stated, "Politics are totally directed by worldview. That's why when people say, 'We ought to separate politics from religion,' I say to separate the two is absolutely impossible" **SO MUCH FOR SEPERATION OF CHURCH AND STATE!

Shortly before announcing his candidacy for the President of the United States, Huckabee ordered that the drives of 83 computers and 4 servers be destroyed during his transition phase in leaving office. According to Claire Bailey, director of the Arkansas Department of Information Systems **SOUND FAMILIAR???

In 1992, Huckabee indicated that he was against gays serving in the military, and did not believe that women should be allowed in combat.[

On December 26, 2007 the conservative organization Judicial Watch announced that Mike Huckabee was named to its list of Washington’s "Ten Most Wanted Corrupt Politicians" for 2007. They state that Huckabee, as governor, was the subject of "14 ethics complaints and a volley of questions about his integrity, ranging from his management of campaign cash to his use of a nonprofit organization to subsidize his income to his destruction of state computer files on his way out of the governor’s office." Judicial Watch further accused Huckabee of attempting to block the state ethics commission's investigations of the allegations

Huckabee made a public statement and compared his weight loss to the experience of a concentration camp, for which the National Jewish Democratic Council chastised Huckabee.

The man has lied, stolen, and cheated and yet all these poor fanatical Christian’s can’t see him for what he really his because he hides behind a bible. Vote for who is right for this Country, not who is telling you what you want to hear and waving a Bible in your face!

This is so pitiful and sad. Candidates and celebrities making total fools of themselves and mocking the highest executive office in the country. It's disgusting to see these presidential candidates trying to gets votes in a popularity contest. It reminds me of senior high school. They act like teenages trying to get votes for most popular student in their class. Do they really think voters are that gullable. Does a smiling actor, rock star or any type of celebrity trick people into voting for their presidential choice? I hope not. I think most voters are more intelligent than that.

Huckabee Unveils Negative Ad In Order To Condemn ItThe Washington Post reported yesterday that Mike Huckabee "took an unorthodox gamble in his bid for the presidency Monday, unveiling an attack ad against" Mitt Romney "and then immediately pledging not to run it in the hopes of appealing to the better nature of Iowa voters." Huckabee appeared "flanked by posters his campaign produced to question Romney's credibility" as he "decried gutter politics in America but then directed the attention of scores of reporters and television cameras to a movie screen, where he played the 30-second hit piece on Romney's honesty and record." Said the former governor, "I pulled the ad. I do not want it to be run at all." However, the Post noted, "the ad was being played on national television and had been posted on blogs and other Web sites - without costing his campaign a penny."The New York Times also said "the circumstances of the commercial and the nature of free media, particularly now with YouTube, make it likely that the advertisement will be viewed far more often than if it had simply run. There is a long history of news coverage guaranteeing a commercial publicity that money could not buy."Fox News' Special Report reported Romney "pulled no punches, ridiculing Huckabee for announcing to a roomful of reporters yesterday that he decided not to air a tough attack on Romney right before playing bits and pieces for all to see." Romney: "I don't think Governor Huckabee was able to fool the media. ... I don't think he'll fool the people of Iowa. It's like saying 'I'm not going to call my opponent any names but if I were going to call him names, here are the names I would call him.'" Fox went on to air what it called " the Huckabee ad you were never meant to see."The CBS Evening News asked Huckabee whether he regrets showing the ad. The former Arkansas governor said, "You know, at the time I thought it was an important way to prove that we actually had it. Probably if I had it to do over again I wouldn't have shown it." Sheesh how much will evangelicals swallow in Iowa, before they see this guy for what he is. "Oh I only said in passing ", to a New York Times (One of the biggest LDS misnomers) Reporter no less, that I wondered if Mormons believe that Satan is the brother of Jesus. See http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jJsxNwAmLT4 And then let's see I will (ala "I will not air this ad, but this is what it would have said" in front of the essentially the whole nation) not unring that bell by announcing on a national debate that I will apologize to poor Mitt for my "Satan's brother slip of the tongue. Let's not forget the fact that he is counting on more freebies by having his network of evangelical pastors get his constituancy out to vote during the caucuses. Does his suspicious record of taking so many gifts, and those gift gives strangely coming into nice appointments back in Arkansas seem to add up now? This guy is the biggest "Earned Media", gift taking, religion pandering huckster, to come down the pike in many years. He makes Jim Bakker look like a choir boy. If Iowans back him it will really go a long way in handing the white house over to the Democrats next January. Every republican pundits say his past will be his undoing in a general election, but don't tell that the evangelicals backing him now, to them he's the second coming. Oh well, you can't teach an old dog new tricks.

The integrity of a democracy is no better than those it elects to public office. Those who vote for Mitt Romney will share the responsibility for promoting a corrupt and dishonest man to the highest office in the land.

Simply replace Mitt Romney with Any Republican and this becomes a significantly true statement.

Obama '08.

HILARIOUS!

If this really is a a legit video, I love that Romney has a sense of humor.

Freakin hilarious!

Chuck Norris' tears have the power to get anyone elected.

Too bad he's never cried.

I'm waiting to see who Mr. T is backing. Mabye he'll run as a write-in with Vin Deisel for the Unity Party.

mike   January 2nd, 2008 4:34 pm ET

So chuck wants to choke the Romney team and Rollins wants to punch Romney in the mouth he says but the article implies Mitt is the bad guy? Also, lets not forget McCain calls Romney a 'pig'.

If these guys think Mitt's ad's are too negative then how would they ever stand up to Hillary?

NEWS RELEASE

MOTHER OF WAYNE DUMOND VICTIM DEMANDS GOV.

Huckabee to release the donor lists to all of the "funds" which he received compensation from (Action America, Next Step Foundation, Twelve Stop Foundation, etc…).

Jonathan, UT   January 2nd, 2008 4:30 pm ET

Did you actually watch the video? Its kinda funny.

Mark   January 2nd, 2008 4:30 pm ET

This is why I hate politics... and why I am liking Huckabee more and more the more I hear about all of this. Huckabee seems to just be having a good time promoting himself as a candidate, while Romney apparently feels the need to disrespect his opponents any chance he gets. If Romney has something good to say (perhaps a valid reason for why he would make a good president as opposed to why he believes Huckabee is the anti-christ), now would be the time to say it. The Chuck Norris thing is just good clean fun, something Romney apparently knows nothing about.

mike   January 2nd, 2008 4:30 pm ET

According to The Associated Press: “[Huckabee’s] career has also been colored by 14 ethics complaints and a volley of questions about his integrity, ranging from his management of campaign cash to his use of a nonprofit organization to subsidize his income to his destruction of state computer files on his way out of the governor’s office.” And what was Governor Huckabee’s response to these ethics allegations? Rather than cooperating with investigators, Huckabee sued the state ethics commission twice and attempted to shut the ethics process down. "

IOWA PLEASE VOTE FOR MITT.

berg   January 2nd, 2008 4:29 pm ET

I can't stand you liberals. Don't you ever tire or repeating the same thoughtless phrases such as "flag-wavin" and "chest-thumpin" to describe conservatives? Is there a single original thought in those pea-brains of yours?

Another one of my favorites is proclaiming someone a "so-called Christian". Who are you to judge someone's heart and spirituality? Judge not, lest you be judged yourself by the only One who counts.

GO HUCK & CHUCK!!!

LETTER TO THE IOWANS:

You saw what happened at the stock market today. We need an establishment type with a steady hand like Romney, Giuliani, or indeed Hillary (and I say so as a Republican).

What we definitely do not need in these economically delicate times are disruptive outsiders like Obama or Huckabee.

Yet another story that reminds me why I probably won't be voting for anyone in the Republican field this November.

Huckabee doesn't seem to have much substance, but people are understandably queasy with Romney and his corporate-manufactured pandering and palavering. On the one hand, you have Huckabee's nice-guy publicity stunts and blatant pandering to the conservative Christian base, and on the other you have Romney's consistently inconsistent views and draconian immigration proposals, to say nothing of his dunderheaded condemnation of Vladimir Putin's "Man of the Year" designation (if elected, he would have to work with Putin as an ally, after all). I don't think either would do terribly much help improve our standing abroad, and I truly doubt either would help us domestically either.

I would almost vote for Chuck Norris over these guys. Almost.

Mark   January 2nd, 2008 4:09 pm ET

That's among the dumbest stories I've read this year. I don't know which is more dumb: Huckabee for having a bad-toupee wearing, geriatric has-been; Romney for trying to one-up Huckabee by using his own bad-toupee wearing, geriatic has-been against him; or CNN.com for dignifying either with space on its website.

Marge Hibbing Mn   January 2nd, 2008 4:06 pm ET

Why is Chuck Norris important in the campaign? Why is Oprah important in this campaign?

People with sense, aren't going to vote for a candidate that has a so called celeb tagging along behind them.....it makes them look like a joke.

Ronald Ianelli   January 2nd, 2008 4:06 pm ET

America will have a real choice if Huckabee runs against Hillary Clinton. WIthin their first ninety days in office Huckabee will execute anyone who does not convert to Christianity and Clinton will castrate every male over the age of twenty-one. What a choice we have!! :)

Brendan H., San Antonio, TX   January 2nd, 2008 3:48 pm ET

Spot him the "U" and the "S" and he'll still get it wrong!!!

Then ask him to detail his military service. Oh, wait, the flag-wavin', chest-thumpin', right wing, wrap the flag 'round me boys, tough guy didn't serve!!!

Anonymous   January 2nd, 2008 3:47 pm ET

Four years ago, I would have rallied behind this ad. Then my sister became engaged to an honest and devout man. He's a felon. At age 24, he's still suffering consequences he made for a crime related to marijuana distribution as a minor. When he refused to give names of sellers (who would have killed his middle-class family without a second thought), local prosecutors attempted to throw the book at him.

Although he received no jail sentence, he became a felon. Obtaining loans for college was nearly impossible. Instead, he began working, and today still carries the burden of his misdeeds. For example, many forms of skill-related labor require that employers carry insurance. Often, those insurance policies exclude coverage for high-risk employees (i.e., ex-felons). Those ex-felons, therefore, cannot get jobs. Fine and dandy, until that ex-felon is the father of your sister's baby. A pardon is the only option he has left. So please, let the careful decisionmaking on pardons and clemency be considered based upon the facts–not upon the chances of being elected next term. Those 1,033 pardons may have very well been well-founded decisions, or every single one could have been without merit. But please attack those decisions individually, not the fact that pardons were given.

Lori   January 2nd, 2008 3:45 pm ET

That should be right on Huckabee's and his supporter's level. Very easy to understand.

David, Jackson WY   January 2nd, 2008 3:45 pm ET

I USED to be a real Chuck Norris fan. Silly me. Now I’m going to have to put this latest huckabeast henchman and disciple of the good 'ol boy from down South the neo-Grand Wiz HuckaBeast in the very same category as the Oliver Stone/Susan Sarandon/George Clooney/Bradd Pitt/Kool-aid Drinker’s camp of religious/racial Bigots who would attack a person based on their membership of a particular religious/ethnic/racial group...,Chucky Cheezer says...“Mad at the negative attack ads”??? Wants to choke that "evil" MORMON out of the campaign like his handler the Grand Wiz...the HuckaBeast??? Really…seems his false good guy image has been wasted on his own candidate's attack ads. ...and now the HuckaBeast's new HolyWeird Henchman Hack...the CHUCKAHUCKABEAST is on the rabid anti-Mormon attack wagon too. Sad. Chucky Cheezster has sadly slipped off into obscurity due to his lack of courage and personal integrity. Go back to Holyweird there, Chuckster Huckster. Seriously Chuckles. People who don’t buy into attacking a person because of their race/skin color/religion aren’t too impressed with YOUR “candidate”…and now you as well. Go home Chuckster Huckster. Go Home. And please don't CHOKE anybody on your way out, okay?

(I'm curious...after the HuckaChuckaBeast ...the Grand Wizard from Arkansas finishes running the Mormons out of the GOP are they going to go after those pesky Black folks and those perky Jews too??? Where do they draw the line these days??? Inquiring minds wanna know...)

Here's to our FREEDOM TO WORSHIP AS WE CHOOSE AND PURSUE LIFE, LIBERTY AND HAPPINESS FREE FROM PERSECUTION IN AMERICA...a FREE America...free from the kind of vile BIGOTRY that oozes from this group of rabid zealots!!!

If these people get the GOP nomination I'm switching over to the Democrat party if they put up Obama, or I'll abstain from voting altogether if it's Edwards/Hillary. I fear for America these days...truly, I do...with choices like this :( ...

Brian Godley, Glendale California   January 2nd, 2008 3:40 pm ET

My wish for this year is that we collectively rise to the occassion in the things we need to handle in our country.

We are facing some rocky weather ahead with the economic indicators looking very dismal. Greenspan is stating we are probably entering a recession right now and some advisors are predicting worse. Oil just hit a record $100 a barrel which is insult to injury with the dollar crisis and the housing market debacle.

In addtion we are looking at record war costs with 4 Trillion for Iraq alone – that is $100,000 per American family.

I like Huckabee but I think we need to think outside of the box. We need to make some serious changes and we need to do it as soon as possible. If you haven't already please check out Ron Paul. http://www.ronpaul2008.com

Huck and his horse-faced 'submissive' wife are the epitomy of White trash...in my humble opinion...

Mitt Romney would make an excellent anchorman for any of the news networks but he is an empty suit when it comes to his convictions. When you publicly state your opinions on abortion, the environment, gay rights, and health care and then as soon as you're running for president repudiate everything you said you stood for it shows the world how much of a phony you are. Romney looks like a t.v. anchorman and has about as much smarts as they all do. They can read from a teleprompter but cannot think on their own and he has the hair for the job so perhaps CNN might offer him a position. America can do better than this plastic man.

Brittany, typical Huckabee supporter a religious bigot who doesn't know anything about Huckabee other than he is a so-called "Christian". Look at Huck's record of ethical violations. His freeing a rapist who raped and killed again. his complete lack of foreign policy or intellectual experience. Vote for Huck and Hillary will be very happy.

DJ, new york, ny   January 2nd, 2008 3:24 pm ET

I simply cannot stand this mormon candidates for his repeated negative ads in attacking his rivals – dem or repub. The attack ads have been filled with twisted facts. Romney is simply not presidential, and I cannot imagine his horrorble operation against his enemies if he gets elected as president.

Romney everytime you open your pie hole you dig yourself a bigger hole. All along I have been saying "Anyone but Hillary" and everything I read about you makes me reconsider that comment. It may very well be that if she is the Democrat nominee, she will win because she is the Anti Romney.

Perhaps you don't deserve a roundhouse punch, but you very much deserve a swift kick in the pants.

RCG   January 2nd, 2008 3:17 pm ET

How in the world is Romney justifying his use of Chuck Norris in an ad? If I were Chuck Norris, I would be offended that someone was putting words in my mouth and using my image against my consent like that. Romney always seems to be attacking someone, as if vilifying the opponent will make him look less evil. I think Romney would be a horrible president because if a problem occurred, he'd just blame some other leader instead of focusing on fixing it.

Jim   January 2nd, 2008 3:05 pm ET

What is Mr. Huckabee trying to do? while Romney is getting endorsements from the leading republican in Iowa, Huckabee has Chuck as his side kick? I guess it takes one to know one and being an evangelist he probably knows what will convince them to chose him first. What Iowa doesn't realize is (those voting for Huck) is that Mike H. is running a negative campaign in front of them over and over again. "I don't kick I choke"? isn't calling someone dishonest and a liar an insult? is this not negative? Mike H. just keeps proving that he is so ill equipped for the office that its embarrassing. I want to know why did Mike H. pardon 12 murderers where at least one of them got out and raped and murder again? why doesn't he respond to that? he calls it dishonest to bring this up what part exactly. Answer the question!

Everybody looking at Mr. Huckabee please look past religion and look at track record and potential.

Is the picture above with Chuck Norris the leader we want to guide us though these very important next years? I think NOT!

Answer the question Mike H.

Romney is a decent guy, but recently, I see fear in his eyes. He seems to support Bush's policy, and attack those who disapprove of Bush's policy. He has been getting defensive about it.

Huckabee has also been attacked, but I like the way he handled it. Just answer the question, and let the American people makes the decision.

It's good that he takes away the attack ads, because this is not him and he would loses not only votes but sleep over it as well. Good for you, Huckabee.

Enjoy yourself, Huckabee. Tell the American people about you and let them decide.
