When you really observe hard enough, Fred Thompson is the only candidate that can beat Obama or Clinton on the Republican side. Fred is the true conservative and has a great record. He is genuine and sincere. He has the best experience among all candidates. I don't think he should be penalized just because he might be temperamentally unsuited to the campaign trail. We need to look deeper than that. This article by LAWRENCE B. LINDSEY in the Wall Street Journal says it all. http://www.opinionjournal.com/editorial/feature.html?id=110011069

Whether Thompson stays or goes IS important. Hey, I wouldn't vote for him, but if he drops out his supporters will have to choose someone else, which could tip the scales.

Just another media story to put Fred down. Fred is the most dangerous of candidates, thats why liberal CNN along with conservative FoxNews and all the rest are piling on. Both want their far sided views in the White House and in the news, and Fred just isn't a bow to the masses guy. He is neither a sexy news story, nor is he a far sided jerk like they all want. Fred is just your true, honest, level-headed American who would put this Country back to where it began, on strong foundations of God and Morals, and that just isn't sexy for BIG T.V. I believe Fred will have a tough time pulling through, because this nation has lost its way and has fallen to the satanic life style.

I agree with many that have responded - this man bears being heard. The race is very crowded and we have big names with big money - ON BOTH SIDES - saying the same old tag lines. As a country we have so many issues and need true reform and leadership in many areas. Regardless of your party, cross your fingers that we don't lose ONE SINGLE viable candidate after one round in Iowa. Yes, I respect Iowa and her citizens, but 49 other states deserve to hear what each of these candidates has to say and how they can impact, or not, the direction of this country. I for one hope they all stay in and we get a real presidential election for a change, not a battle for who has the best commercials and the most money.

To Frederick Paxson Benbrook, Tx. -

You're kidding, right? Regarding defending the Constitution, you wouldn't happen to mean the way the Bush administration has been defending it? I mean the warrantless surveillance, the refusal to extend the right of habeas corpus to the Gitmo detainees, or the Patriot Act, to name just a few of the many violations of said Constitution. Or have you ever even bothered to read the Constitution? Maybe if you had, you would recognize when your president has violated it.

Now about defending those Bush tax cuts - would you happen to be in the top two percent of the wealthiest people who were the main beneficiaries of this largesse? You would have to be, otherwise you would be a complete idiot to defend this blatant unfairness. The middle class needs tax relief, not the wealthiest.

Then there was the president's brainless idea to mess with social security, a program which has functioned just fine, thank you very much, until the Republicans decided to mess with it and came up with privatization. Yes, of course, that was the ingenious idea to allow us to invest our social security benefits in the stock market. Yes, the very stock market that has been up and down and all over the place in recent months. Great idea. So we can lose our shirts as the stock market tumbles.

Oh and then there is that great conservative principle of reducing spending. Have you checked the latest figures to see how high the deficit is these days? Just think of the money we are borrowing from the likes of China and Japan to prop up our government, while our president has us bogged down in Iraq to the tune of billions of dollars, while he vetoes bills that would provide additional health care for children.

This is what you want to vote for? No wonder you like Fred Thompson. He fits right in the mold. The only news this fool will make is when he does us all a favor and drops out of a race that he was never in to begin with. No, we won't get fooled again.

Aw, I was hoping that after Freddie got into the White House, it'd be free watermelon, grits and Blatz beer for everyone. But the way our economy is going, if the Republicans get in again, that's all the American people WILL be getting, since the 'conservatives' seem to be gobbling up every resource and dollar that they can.

Why would Fred be excited about a third place finish in a third rate state?

If Fred drops out before NH, then most of his supporters will likely go to Huckabee. Therefore, if Huck wins Iowa tonight over big money Mitt, Huck could very well be the Repub nominee by Feb 5th. Lots of fundamentalist Christians would be pleased to see that. Unfortunately, he'll lose a close one to Obama because Ron Paul will steal about 18% as an independent.

There you have it folks.

Fred Thompson was good in his role in Law & Order... but he has NO business even thinking he's presidential material. The thought of him in charge during a major crisis scares the bejeebers out of me. Didn't we learn anything from the goofus we've got in the White House today? Fred is just an older G-Dubya in many ways.

And the other "candidate" that causes me to shake my head in worry.... Ron Paul. My gosh, you people supporting him, have you really THOUGHT about some of his preposterous proposals? Talk about the tail wagging the dog.

Go back to sleep, Fred. When you wake up, you'll be as surprised as all the other neo-cons when Dr. Paul is riding high in Iowa, then on to Super Tuesday! Oh, and Bunny, I'd rather get my news from youtube than the Clinton News Network or Faux News. Thanks for promoting our candidate though; every time you mention his name, we get more free press!

He's catchin' on, I'm tellin' ya!

There are Americans still looking for a big daddy to make them feel safe? When did it become normal to look to one man to provide for the security of all 300 million of us? Are we really supposed to be that fearful?

If you're honestly more concerned about a terrorist attack then the environment, the housing crisis, the credit crunch, how much debt we're in, the rising cost of oil, or our dwindling freedoms, I feel sorry for you. Your little Susie and Bobby are in much more danger of being hit by a car in a shopping center parking lot than they are in danger of being attacked by an "Islamofascist" (whatever THAT means anyway).

Grow a backbone, America. Vote your conscience, not your fears.

Jim Robinson Endorses Fred Thompson

Jim Robinson, founder of Free Republic has endorsed Fred. Here’s part of his endorsement:

With Fred, we know we’re getting a solid, no-nonsense, commonsense pro life and liberty conservative who will defend the nation, secure the borders, defend the constitution, appoint originalist judges, defend the Bush tax cuts, work to simplify and flatten the tax code, keep social security solvent while providing alternative private accounts, reduce government and spending, and work to return states issues to the states. Imagine that.

In fact, he comes closest to being the conservative leader I’ve been praying for all these years. I don’t know about you, but I think it would be great to be able to enthusiastically support and work for a true conservative candidate whose principles and convictions match so many of my own.

Fred as usual is going to do what's right even if the media doesn't like it. The story that he would resign is just a cheap political hit coming on the day of the first caucus. Any reporter should have seen it. By the way if you believe Fred might drop out, I understand Romney is going to drop if he does win 50% of the vote

Sorry, Dave from Mount Vernon NH, Dr. Paul is stirring no Kool-Aid--he's just telling it like it is, aka truth, and the others are telling it like they want you to hear it, aka lies. Your thoughts are kind of like you learning to spell-check: both off-base and not likely to become correct anytime soon.

As for Fred, if he dropped out, would anyone notice? Would anyone care?

Sorry, this is a 3 1/2 person race on the Democratic side (Obama, Hillary, Edwards, and the 1/2 is Richardson), and a 3 person race on the Republican side (Romney, Huckabee, Paul) and everyone else is a "Who Me?" also-ran.

Expect Hunter, Biden, Dodd, McCain, and Thompson to drop after this week. Huckabee should but won't; ditto Guliani, because neither of their egos will let them.

Sorry, Dave from Mount Vernon NH, Dr. Paul is stirring no Kool-Aid–he's just telling it like it is, aka truth, and the others are telling it like they want you to hear it, aka lies. Your thoughts are kind of like you learning to spell-check: both off-base and not likely to become correct anytime soon.

The majority of the previous comments are lacking in substance. Let's add some intelligence and integrity to our comments...

Fred Thompson is the only candidate to have offered white papers and/or plans of immigration reform, revitalizing America's armed forces, social security reform and tax relief. While Fred doesn't focus on negativity like many of the other candidates, he does not hesitate in pointing out his opponents' shortcomings. Fred has core values that are stable and do not change according to polls.

In my opinion, this is what makes Fred a great political choice for the Republican party.

Now, if we can just get him to support the Fair Tax with more vigor...

Alas, Mr. Thompson, the Spicoli of presidential campaigning.
No desire to lead, quick wit and one-liners won't get you to the WH in 2008.

When the USA is tested again and history tells us it will be - which candidate would you want in the situation room. I think about that every night when I tuck my 4 year old son and 2 year old daughter into bed. Reality check folks.
