The bill gives a subsdy to poor people to pay the tax. Seriously, that sounds like the worst big government welfare ever. What&#039;s their incentive to get out of poverty? 

I see in the text that one of the reasons for the bill was that income tax discourages economic growth. Hello, taxing everything that moves for 23% would be beneficial? Remember, I believe they mean services too. 

People would consume less (not an economic boon), producers produce less and finally tax revenues fall as fewer pople buy things.  

While arguably giving massive subsidies to the poor is progressive (an odd position for self-reliant Republicans), this bill would decimate the middle class. 

Of course, there is a group of very wealthy people behind this. Nothing wrong with that, this is a free country and they can push their agenda. But this isn&#039;t good for Middle America. 

Obviously, Huckabee is just after the financial support of the Americans for Fair Taxation and there is no almost no chance of such an idea ever happening. 

The point is to get these debates away from Who Loves God More to something more substantive. 

I already have a pastor and a church. We&#039;re hiring a president here.</description>

I need supporters of this idea to say why:

1) This tax is not regressive
2) Why this tax wouldn&#039;t stop many products from being put out of the reach of people with modest means. 
3) Why you think this idea wouldn&#039;t get Huckabee crushed in a general election
4) Why this wouldn&#039;t destroy our consumer-led economy. Which is especially important given the looming downturn.

What is it supposed to do? Soak the rich? Make sure peasants don&#039;t get their hands on things we&#039;ve decided they don&#039;t need? Stifle the economy? Is it a puritannical need to punish people for consuming? Make sure people don&#039;t buy anything other than lentils ever again? Destroy small business in America? 

Someone gave an example about a $100 shirt wouldn&#039;t cost $123 under this system. Why? Is all clothing exempt? Even fancy clothing? A $100 shirt is certainly not a basic necessary at all. W

With all the thousands of goods and services available in this country, how are you going to keep track of what to charge? Here&#039;s an idea: with a tax bureau of some kind. There certainly will be a tax bureaucracy under this scenario. 

Huckabee is the only politician that makes me write on message boards. Sheesh.</description>

Replacing the sales tax with an income tax, theoretically, is actually a proposal meant to aid the poor, not the elite.  It&#039;s the rich who spend the most, and the tax would be imposed on the rich to a greater degree than the poor.  One of the problems with the idea is that the tax will be evaded by a majority of the people and chaos will probably be the result.  There are many other problems with the Fair Tax idea, more than can be discussed in a single blog post.

There are few credible economists who would support  the implementation of this plan in America today, and our government wouldn&#039;t survive after eliminating the income teax totally.  If Mike Huckabee were to become president, he wouldn&#039;t spend the time or the capital on the issue, and even if he did, there would be no way for him to get Congress to pass such a ludicrous bill.  

Even though I like Huckabee (but I won&#039;t be voting for him), I see this as his greatest weakness.  Nevertheless, the next president will not be eliminating the income tax and replacing it with a sales tax.  We&#039;re blessed with a great political system that won&#039;t allow a single person to destroy the nation.

P.S.  For those of you who are complaining about Dobson, Huckabee and the religious right, remember that Dobson has not endorsed Huckabee and that he was just talking about the energy and influence of the voting block.</description>

		<description>Being a spiritual person who believes in God and that he created everything and also being a lesbian I would like to ask the christians who have posted above saying that being gay is an abomination, how can it be if we are born this way.  Which means God created us just like he created you.  I say this not only because I believe it but because there is proof.  God created everyone right? God is intolerant of sin because He is holy, good and just.  You missed the part of love the sinner, hate the sin, very conveniently.  God loves all the people He created, including you, even if you don&#039;t believe He exists.  What He doesn&#039;t like is the sin we all commit daily.  Feel free to toss your Bible in the fire, you have that freedom in this country. 

On another note, I do believe people can be Christians and be liberal Democrats.  No one but God can judge the heart of another person.  I personally know Christians from many different denominations that range the spectrum from liberal to conservative, they just emphasize different aspects of God.  Instead of focusing on the differences it would be better if Christians could focus on common ground.  We are members of one body, different parts with different roles, but serve the same God. 

We do not have a &quot;state&quot; sponsored religion in this country.  Separation of Church and State exists and anyone who doesn&#039;t understand that, doesn&#039;t understand what it really means.  When approx. 80% of the population claims to be Christian, it is no surprise that Christian values will be an important factor in the lives of the people, and thus influence gov&#039;t to some degree.  However, last I checked the gov&#039;t was not telling anyone they had to go to a particular church, or any church at all, so all the nonsense about keeping church and state separate is a bunch of hype.  If you are not a Christian, that is fine, you can still live in this country and enjoy the same freedoms as everyone else, so I don&#039;t understand what the problem is.  This country&#039;s laws were founded on Judeo-Christian values, but there is no gov&#039;t mandate forcing anyone to believe in God or go to church.  I don&#039;t know of any Christians that want the gov&#039;t to mandate what they should believe and practice.  We support the separation of church and state too.</description>

What will America look like 4 years from now what could change for the better with family values, such as no abortions, kids getting the proper mentoring, and character driven father and mother (he created them male and female it says in Genesis) in the forefront of leadership? These Evangelical (We are the only one&#039;s with the truth) Christians just simply have it out for Mitt Romney. Interesting thing about it is that Mitt Romney NEVER blasts back and attacks the Evangelicals about their faith.  He&#039;s bigger than that, he&#039;s got true Integrity, not shirt sleeve integrity (Huck makes the attack ad, then doesn&#039;t play it cuz he&#039;s too much a Christian, but shows it to the press, knowing it will be aired for free).  Plus Romney proves his belief that the candidates faith is NOT to be the issue for the President of the United States.

Mitt Romney can help our country be great once again.  He would NOT preach from the Oval Office.   Mitt states facts against his opponents, he doesn&#039;t ATTACK them.  The Evangelical Christians are subtley attacking Mitt&#039;s faith in their sneaky back door way.

The Evangelicals will hand the nation to the Democrats if that&#039;s what it takes to beat Mitt, solely based on their differences in faith.  OMG this is craziness!

Isn&#039;t that pathetic?  There isn&#039;t a single one of them that can convince me otherwise.  I&#039;ve heard their lies about Morman&#039;s for decades.   They are duped into believing they can judge a man (Commandment&#039;s instruct NOT to) as long as they all do it together - about his faith.  They do this same thing to the Catholics and the Muslim&#039;s and the Universalists and the list goes on and on and on and on. 

Mitt is a GOOD man and worthy of all people looking into what he can do to help our country.  Trust him with the USA, Huck should go back to church and ask for forgiveness, in my opinion.

 I&#039;m kind of Libertarian, and don&#039;t believe in legislating morality or immorality, except where we are talking of one party harmong another.    Again, to the naysayers,  I think Huckabee in many ways could be called a Christian centrist when it comes to his actual policies.   To highlight the stupidity of some of the above critics of the Christain right, and their statements that Huckabee places low without that vote, let me also point out that without the black vote, Lyndon Johnson would have been the last Democratic president, if even then.   Is it a stupid argument ... YES, on both counts.</description>

Whether the current ovation is from James Dobson for religious conservatives&#039; vote &#039;counting&#039; or from Jesse Jackson for African American&#039;s interests being highlighted or women aligning themselves with Hilary in hopes of femine interests being served, the reality is that our country is diversified in gender, ethnicity and values and these differences play a part in each vote that is cast behind the booth&#039;s curtain. 		<description>I, like many, have a strong conviction about these elections.  As we know, our country is in critical crisis on many fronts.  I will say up front that I support Mike Huckabee.  I realize that all the candidates have need of growth in all areas.  After the elections in Iowa I was praying about my concerns for the new president and this is what I heard from the Lord, &quot;Remember my King David? The Clintons did a Grande job of downsizing our NON DRAFTED/VOLUNTARY Military and letting the terrors training camps  flourish. You can bash Bush all you want but has 9/11 been so quickly forgotten?   What he walked into when he became President of our great nation.The Planned attacks that have been stopped. America has a much bigger problem  within  our borders. Are you watching out for your neighbors back? It doesn&#039;t matter to Islam what kind of Christian you call yourself. Doesn&#039;t anyone know World History.To them we are all  &#039;infidels&#039;. Read their Holy Book. America has in many was become TOO FREE. . Protecting animals and killing human babies in our country.What kind of stupidity is that?  A Legal system that too often doesn&#039;t protect the most vunerable part of our society.Tolerating evil,sin of all sortsOOPs excuse me evil,sin is politically incorrect. No, we cannot legislate Morality thus we make laws against Immorality. Wake up and understand why the terrorist are after our nation. 

After you complain, it would be a good idea to thank God, our provider  for  our brave men &amp; women who are protecting our freedom to sit in America and write these comments. As, for the Bible Belt comments...I&#039;ll not comment but I&#039;m glad to be living in the Bible Belt! Many who have made wild comments obviously haven&#039;t read a Bible seeking to find Truth.  Remember, Truth is not dependent on our beleiving it to be true. Truth is Truth. It&#039;s still Jan. 5th, 2008 whether you beieve it or not!
