As a European from Germany I´m truly interested in the presidential election campaigns in the US. The reason is obvious: The outcome of the US presidential election has consequences for the rest of the world - as your nation is among the most influential and powerful ones on the globe.
I saw the image of the USA step-by-step deterior after 9/11. I don´t understand the stubborn political approach towards Iraq. The gap between the poor and the rich seems to get wider and wider, and a "green conciousness" in terms of resources and nature still seems to be a hobby for well-educated DINKs.
What I hope for is Change. Although this word seems to be attached to the Obama team I believe that every democratic candidate could represent change - most likely not to the same extend, but change nonetheless. I hope that there will be a change in Amercan politics next year, because your nation always inspired dreams of better life - and you can resume to be this source of inspiration again.
I´ll keep watching your campaign and election process....

It's amazing how Obama has taken over. His roll might extend into the larger states. I have a feeling though it will be a lot tougher in California, Florida and especially New York to run against Hillary.

who cares about Oprah? I guess millions of stupid fat people do. People can't you think for yourselves??? you need Oprah to tell you how to live your life?
please wake up, exercise, lose some weight and look at how the rest of the civilized world is leaving their lives. America is heading in the wrong direction at the speed of life. people live their lives stuck to their television sets and allow the television and media to dictate their lives.
Oprah is an idiot who forgot how hard it was for a woman to get to the power. I have no respect for her anylonger since she turned her back on Hillary. she should have sided with the women. but she is such a typical stupid woman, she sides with the men, typical women. instead of us smart women to unite together and be strong and unite against the hurt we got from men, we turn against each other and kiss us the guys who hurt us. or maybe Oprah couldn't stand the fact that there might be a woman out there more powerful than she is. I have no respect for Oprah what's so ever. she is an big time idiot.
Obama stole all Hillary ideas and now he is turning into a major jerk. let's not forget that he put her down on national television many times. I don't like him and I don’t trust him. Hillary will make one good president, but I guess this country is way behind the rest of the world to allow a woman to lead. This country is pretty sexist so I am not surprised you will vote for a black guy who is inexperienced rather than vote for a perfectly good experienced candidate who is a woman. Well, I think you guys are making a big mistake for voting for Obama. On the day when you will have to vote for your president, the majority of people will vote for the white republican guy, and hence one more time there will be 8 years of long recession and republican, conservative and narrow-minded era.
wake up and smell the coffee and vote for the right candidate who can bring the country back to the glory days of Clinton when the economy was booming and things were good.
and one more thing, so what Bill cheated on Hilary, how many men out there cheat on their wives on daily basis? or how many physically abuse their wives? please wake up to reality. what's worse cheating on your wife or abusing her physically or emotionally??? please there is at least one case of abuse in every single relationship in this country. but how do you go on with your relationships?? you forgive and learn and go on, because you need each other for different reasons, money, children etc. so think straight before you vote for the wrong candidate just because stupid Oprah said so. Oprah please.. I have no respect for her what's so ever and I am a smart engineer and very educated and well traveled woman. but I know how this world turns and I hate to see smart women turning against themselves just because of jealousy. shame on Oprah. have no respect for her.

PRESIDENTIAL RACE 2008
Something really is wrong in this country! Why? Let's get serious! I am in shock to see Iowa and New Hampshire citizens think this country is better off in the hands of a candidate who has little to no experience with making changes for this country and says nothing about how he thinks he is going to make any changes. He keeps talking about this country's need for change but doesn't seem to have any comments on what change or changes he's talking about. To vague for my thoughts about change. The young are all excited when they talk about Barack
Obama but they don't talk about what kind of changes Obama is promising them that their getting excited about. I guess it's good enough to just say the word change to excite the young at heart. I say that's not good enough for me. I say this country does need a big change and the best person for that job is someone tried and true. Someone who can really make a difference someone with experience to make changes, someone not afraid to make changes, someone who doesn't just talk about change but has a real vision and plan about change. This country is in serious trouble - This is not the time to play babe's in toy land. Let's get serious, let's get real, vote Hillary Rodham Clinton - She really can make the difference. GET SERIOUS NOW BEFORE IT'S TO LATE. DON'T MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE IN 2008 AS THIS COUNTRY MADE IN 2000 AND 2004. SAY NO TO PROMISES SAY YES TO TRIED AND TRUE! OUR COUNTRY BECAME GREAT ON THE TRIED AND TRUE.

The bottom line is our country is more divided now than ever, and if Hilary is the nominee or even president we will be even more divided. I'm not one for caring about what Republicans think on anything, but I really don't want to spend the next four years listening to them bash her. The truth is Republicans want Hilary to win because they think they can beat her. We cannot allow them to have what they want. Obama is what our country needs now more than ever. If we elect Obama it would send a clear message across the world that Americans are as fed up with our Government as they are. The days of cowboy diplomacy is over. Obama can and will bring our country back together again. Not pitting Red states against Blue states, but once again making us the UNITED STATES of AMERICA.

The three front runners on the Dem's side have the same platform. The difference is Hillary says she's an insider and can get things done, being the leader in pac money she probably can. But who writes the bills? Obama wants to get everyone together and sing kumbaya and then we will all resolve are problems. Edwards says Washington is broke blow it up and start over. What a choice?

Let's all be honest for one second. I'm starting to wonder how gullable our people really are, and if we're past the point of no return in terms of common sense.

All of these polls are ridiculous. It doesn't matter who votes in the elections, but what really matters is who counts the votes. We've all seen what happened in OH and FL during the last election. We all witnessed electronic voting fraud, and the evidence is there for you to see for yourself. Feel free to search it on Youtube.

Just remember that their is no difference between 99% of the candidates in terms of Democrate or Republican, and that they are all working for the international bankers, and private corporations (the same ones who own the Federal Reserve Bank). We are in a nation that keeps barrowing money from the Fed to pay for wars and other special interest projects, and we're paying for these things by printing more money. Why do you think we're experienceing hyperinflation right now? If you keep printing money then you devalue the money at the same time. That's why each one of us in the middle and lower classes is pyaing more and more for the same goods each year. The squeeze is for real.

I'm not going to tell you that Ron Paul is the only one you can vote for, but please research his message. He makes excellent points on monetary policy, foriegn policy, and wants to restore our freedoms and liberties. He will reverse the Patriot Act, the Military Commission Act, and all the other Acts that Bush has installed to strip us of our freedoms. Next topic....take away our guns, regulate the internet to control free speach, and slowly we're transitioning from employees to slaves.

I pray for all of us that we stand up and stop the elitist from slowly but surely creating a North American Union, and finally to a one world government. Think of it this way....is there anything good that comes from a Monopoly? You end up losing competitoin which lowers costs, and increases the amount of services and amenities we recieve (or have to CHOOSE from).

Vote Ron Paul in 2008. Save our country and our constitution!

Edwards won the Saturday night debate - both Obama and Hillary are celebrities, and thoughtful most of all of their rivalry. Only Edwards, of the top three, showed appropriate "I want to do the work; I believe I can do the work" of the presidency type motivation. Edwards, the non-professional politician, doesn't take this as a feather for his cap (as do Obama and Hillary). For Edwards, the U.S. o f A. is in deep trouble, and he sees we can't get down any road with the corporate powers setting down boulders / blockades. We need to get our legislators back to working for us, the people. Edwards will make that happen.

Edwards won the Saturday night debate – both Obama and Hillary are celebrities, and thoughtful most of all of their rivalry. Edwards, the non-professional politician, doesn't take this as a feather for his cap (as do Obama and Hillary).
The CNN poll is correct.

Hillary and Obama are tied among DEMOCRATIC voters - the ones who will actually vote in the primaries.

Yes, when you add independent voters to the picture, Obama has a 10 point lead - but independents will NOT be voting in the primaries.

Herold (writing as "anonymous" and as "K")

What do you mean by "balancing the budget"?

Clinton never presented a balanced budget to congress. He produced a lot of propaganda to support it though, but he didn't do it.

As for calling me a Republican, what a silly contemptuous thing to say after I spread the love.

Silly. Let's unite. Our country needs us.

All best!

One more thing...and its worth mentioning...because Hillary supporters seem to forget...

Bill Clinton had a Democrat controlled house and sentate - until Hillary tried to stuff socialized healthcare down our throats...the incredible tax increase that would of followed caused the control to shift - thus causing Bill Clinton's left wing stance to shift to a moderate....Republican controlled house and senate with a newly found "moderate" Bill Clinton...is what "balanced the budget" and no conflict in the world that we were willing to address (no 9/11) - although the trade center was bombed...and no reponse....and the USS Cole was bombed - with a single missile sent...and the embassy was bombed....with no retaliation....yeah..I guess we could go back to the Clinton days....weak defense....and if Hillary had he way....high taxes and a subpar health system (figure if the system she was proposing was so good...Canada and France would want more details....they don't....their citizens come here for good health care....at least...the wealthy ones do

There are people still voting for Hillary??

Ok...let break it down....

Hillary says "35 years political experience"

reality check - "6 years elected" experience - while Bill Clinton was governor of Arkansas....Hillary was a partner in the Rose Law Firm...and on the board of Directors for Walmart - unless she was counting sleeping next to him as "experience"

Hillary says "I authored the SCHIP (Childrens Health Care bill)" - not true - research this one....the concept was brought to the Republican congress and authored there....Hillarys name is not mentioned anywhere...nor did she author a word

bottom line...she's a liar

i fully agree with the thought that you have put in. the democrats should very carefully look into this aspect. I like Obama very much but belive it not republicans want him to come at first place so that they can again use there dirty tricks and win.therefore think before you vote just don't ride the change wave and get nowhere. Young voter need to be more careful, otherwise we will have repeat of 2004 results

Terence, yeah, the results of Iowa and New Hampshire CAN make or break a candidate. Like it or not, nothing succeeds like success, and wins in these early contests cause HUGE shifts in political tides. In 2004 when John Kerry beat Howard Dean in the Iowa caucuses it cause the total collapse of then front-runner Howard Dean's campaign, and launched Kerry, something of a collapsed second-tier candidate at the time, into the nomination. You're also fully incorrect about McCain beating Bush in Iowa in 2000. McCain skipped the Iowa caucuses in that year to campaign in New Hampshire, and the result of his win there catapulted him ahead of Steve Forbes and made him a major competitor in numerous other states. This is significant because McCain was a huge underdog. After winning New Hampshire he was a mortal threat to the Bush candidacy.

I would like to say that has anyone in the media, ever thought of the possability that those republicans that say they went democrat in Iowa to vote for obama, weren't doing it to get hillary to lose?than turn and vote republican in the actual election? This has been a trick of the republicans forever. when they saw a candiadte look like he was losing they voted nader to split the vote. Be very careful democrats on how you vote! When you get news media pundents speaking in raving reviews of obama, when they have never in there history said nice comments about democrats ever! it could be to manipulate the voting to get him elected in the primaries so he can lose in the election and then they win again. I have watched for years as a canadian, and am amazed at how your media is so easily led. for the media it is your job to find out if this is real or manipulation from the right karl rove and the white house has a mighty machine that has won many elections doing dirty tricks. I still think that Hillary would be a wonderful president .What about all the votes obama said present to? where was his value of right and wrong there? what was he hiding behind the present vote? was it to keep things off the record?if so why?

It seems Obamas support is coming from Republicans and Independents. I thought he was a Democrat. Is there a reason they are pushing him? The way some of these states vote is crazy.. Only Democrats should be able to vote for nominee. Republicans should not be able to pick Demcrat nominee. I also feel the states should all vote on same day that way know one state has mor influence.

If Hillary Clinton can not take the heat that was given to her last night by the other candidates without getting angry, how is she ever going to be able to be a diplomat for the United States to the world? I felt that she was lecturing me last night, not negotiating with me to understand why I should vote for her. We are both from the generation that has been trying to break the glass ceilings in all of business and in the Presidency, but she is not the women that we want to do that.

Again folks, Hillary has no REAL experience of her own. Possibly you could count her work on health care when she was the Presidents wife, but she failed miserably at that. She is too divisive and can not bring differing side together. She is a divider and her negatives are far too high. She can not win in a general election.

if you actually look over the poll there are a lot of inconsistencies. from edwards being more favorable than clinton, but having less people likely to vote for him, to the margin of error. if you take the poll as a whole, there should be three pictures at the head of this article not two.

Obama seems to be winning support based on the promise of change. But what exactly does Obama need to change about experienced Democrats. What was so wrong with the Bill Clinton years that we feel a major change is necessary? It has been the failed policies of the republican party that has taken us to our current situations, not established democrats. If any party should be running on the platform of change it should be the republicans. The simple act of putting a democrat in office with a democrat congress will account for the overwhelming majority of any change that will take place during a democratic presidency. I'm gonna hold off on the Obama band wagon until I get to hear more about these "changes". Especially after watching the New Hampshire debates last night. Obamas foreign policy on Pakastan sounded eirely like Bushs on Iraq. Just barely left of the neocons is not the change I am looking for in a democrat pres.

I disagree with Herold. I suport Obama and believe that its impossible to pick up where Bill left because its been years since he was in office, times have changed and so has America. We are at a different state than we were then. Obama has the potential to changed America and I believe he will do so. Hillary dosen't believe in comprimise, she seems to feel that what she says go and its AMERICA and our goverment is based on democracy. Thats wht Edwards and Obama seem to get along well, they both are able to use there ideas to come to a conclusion about what to do with certain subjects. I wouln't mind seeing the Obama/ Edwards president/vice president in the genaral elections!

Hilary has a lot of experience, should she become President of the U.S she will have to lead the most difficult America of all times, that means she will have lead this great Country according to those good leadership principles our founding Fathers built this great nation on.

Herold, Obama has no problems concerning his electability. Do see the results of the Iowa caucuses.

Let's vote for some real change and not more of the same. Obama 08!

Could someone please give Obama's background, substance, political leanings three years ago? I see a celebrity catapulted into stardom on nothing but a speech about healing this country. While I want change from the Bush administration, any of the candidates can provide that, thank goodness. However, I keep hearing that Obama is going to "heal" this nation. Correct me if I'm wrong, but we didn't suffer a civil war. We have had no race riots. We are not lining up at the soup kitchens because of a depression. Why can't he talk about issues in a substantive way instead of spewing this warm fuzzy nonsense about healing?

HIllary Clinton, no matter what you think of her politics, has gotten a raw deal from the press. They have printed nothing but negatives since she began to run. All her issues are issues she has been dealing with for years and Obama just took on, using the old Clinton crew to form his platform. Rarely an original thought there.

We elected someone without substance and intellectually-challenged eight years ago. Now we are going to put our eggs in an unknown's basket when we are facing real issues globally and at home.

It's sad to think Democrats are rallying round a flag of nothingness. Hope is nice but action is better.

Congratulations Senator Clinton! As our friends, my wife and I watched you in the NH Debate we were appalled at the way you became negative towards the fellow Democrats, upset in what was being said about you, and angry when confronted with issues regarding past challenges you may have endured. We were strong Clinton supporters of both you and Bill, but after seeing that you cannot keep your composure with a simple debate, we feel worried of what could happen with world leaders who are not of sound mind. We do not need a President with a huge head or on a power trip, to lead this country any farther down hill. We are now along with 11 of our 15 friends (who were also dissapointed as we watched together) going to vote Democrat,, and right now, it appears not for you. Unless something you can do to change our mind this will be our decision. Im sure you do not care as we are just a small percentage of a California vote anyways. Thats too bad.

I can't believe how much weight is being given to these two tiny states that happen to hold their primaries/caucuses first. Is the news media really trying to sell me on the notion that Iowa & New Hampshire are a barometer for the rest of the nation? That the results in IA & NH make or break a candidate's bid for the presidency? I haven't decided who I will vote for, but I get the sense that the media wants to limit my choices by essentially saying that winning in Iowa virtually locks the nomination for one candidate, and is a devastating loss for another. Are you kidding?? Are you serious??! It's IOWA!!!!!! I'm not certain of this, but didn't McCain beat Bush in Iowa? Didn't Paul Tsongas beat Clinton in New Hampshire? How did that all work out for Tsongas and McCain over the long haul? I really wish we would adopt a national primary election day- say, sometime in May- when every state votes, and thus, has an equal voice in determining the Democrat and Republican nominees for President, leaving 6 months for those two to make their cases for the general election in November.

I know how excited everyone is about Iowa, and how jazzed everyone is for New Hampshire, but excuse me, 48 other states have something to say about all this, and most of them have way bigger populations...

It's time the government is given back to the people. I don't believe that Mrs. Clinton would do that. People have to realize that just because she was married to Bill doesn't mean that she is Bill Clinton. It's true that Bill Clinton was a decent president, but Hilaary will divide the country more than ever. We need someone who can bring us together. I'm looking forward to SUper Tuesday when Obama will win.

The polls I see this morning broken down reflected a great interest in Obama, by younger people, who typically do not vote in great numbers. The over fifty crowd is solidly for Hillary - they say. But then again, - according to CNN she and Obama were to win Iowa. I otoh knew instinctively that Edwards would come in either first or second. We have issues that are not being confronted by the entrenched politicians - Obama and Hillary. I think Edwards will get rid of the paid lobbyists who are really running America into the ground. It takes a lot more than "hope" and talking about "hope" to get things accomplished. John Edwards does get things accomplished. And he will continue to accomplish great things as president. If I really thought anyone could straighten out the mess we are in, I'd put my money on John Edwards. Unfortunately...we are on a downhill slide, and I fear no-one can undo Bush's mess.

It is my feeling that expirence is what counts in a presidential election...and i beleive that hillary has that expirence....obama would be at the mercy of his advisors...and we see what that can lead to in the way the bush presidency was handled..by handlers. i thin k tht hillary would be able to put together a better group of tried advisors that would have th einterest of the country at heart....

as for obama...he claims that he did not vote for the war ..of course he did not...he was not in the position to vote for the war ...he was in the ill. congress at the time....but he did support the votes for funding....and was not present for the last few funding votes...he did not want to go on record as not funding the troops...

hillary is the best bet for lthe hard row of the presidency...she is tough and compasionate.....
new hampshire voters will come out for hjillary unlike those in iowa...who just went along with the flow of those that pushed them forward

Clinton will lose, thank goodness for that! She is a loser, always has been, Tim Russert proeved that on national television. We already knew that, but she just helped her own cause for defeat. Sick Billhasn't helped her either, but what do you expect from a womanizer. Go Obuma! Go Mitt!

Not sure why people keep conceding that Hilary Clinton has the most experience. Besides the ‘one’ election she won in New York, what other office has she been elected to? Being an assistant to a former President makes her the most experienced? The same President that was impeached. Do the people forget all the monthly scandals during the (Bill) Clinton Presidency?

I agree about the Clinton administration but that was Bill and not Hillary. Also I just do not think that Hillary is electable.
My vote is for Edwards.

First and foremost, I want to say that I support Hilary and I like the idea that we can get two for one in the Whitehouse. She will be able to start making the major changes a whole lot faster than Obama could ever think of. His lack of experience, and not really knowing how Washington works, he is totally wrong if he thinks that he will be able to make any changes really fast.

Obama, I believe that he thinks that he is the next "Martin Luther"! He is so wrong for becoming President for so many reasons. The major lack of experience will be the down fall if he gets the nomination. Please people, WAKE-UP AND LET US BRING HILARY INTO THE WHITEHOUSE!

Hillary is NOT Bill, and Barack Obama is the change this country hungers for. The good-old-boys (and girls) type of politics is OVER. Barack Obama beats all Republican contenders in the polls. All the HRC supporters need to get on board and let's bring America back! I'm so tired of reading comments from the Hillary supporters that she is the only candidate who can win in November.
A friend of mine sent a fake headline this morning that said Deanna Favre was going to start for the Packers in the playoffs because she's been married to Brett for the 16 years he's been a quarterback.
Hillary was the First Lady of the Country- her HUSBAND was President. He has the credentials- she DOESN'T! The analogy was perfect- Obama 08!

Obama is a breath of fresh air. His election would do wonders for the U.S. image in other countries and move America forward in countless ways. Hillary thought she would be crowned Queen but that isn't happening yet. She will get down and act like a street fighter but that is an image that Americans shouldn't want projected throughout the world. Bush has done enough damage, I hope the American voters don't let Hillary do more harm. Obama and Edwards would make a great one two combination in that order.
