Impeachment is necessary to refute the Administration's "Unitary Executive" theories before that dictatorial philosophy is allowed to be adopted by a future Administration. But, the national Democratic leadership apparently wants that power for themselfves and grassroots Republicans are too f&$#ing stupid to understand that. If a Democrat had committed the same litany of abuses against the Constitution that Cheney and Bush have, they'd be screaming for impeachment. But, they're too blinded by their irrational partisan loyalties to stand up for the Constitution. It's disgusting.

It's about time that CNN started reporting on this issue. More and more prominent and level headed people are calling for impeachment hearings on both Bush and Cheney. The voices have been growing louder and louder every day yet CNN and the other main stream media organizations have continued to try and bury this story.

Everyone seems to have their excuses for why there shouldn't be impeachment hearings or how it is futile to even attempt it. However, what it comes down to is protecting our Constitution and the rule of law in our country. The President and Vice-President have broken the law. And they continue to do so every day. It is the sworn responsibility of Congress to hold them accountable and show the citizens (and the world) that the United States is still a republic that is ruled by law and not a monarcy (or a dictatorship) that is ruled by G W Bush.

Actually, it being too late for impeachment, they should be frog-marched out of the oval office in handcuffs and into the international court at the Hague to be tried as war criminals, a fate they richly deserve.
I wrote (by snail mail) to all my current (and former) representatives and senators on impeachment and only got a response from Henry Waxman . . . so apparently it's not even worthy of response from one's elected representatives.

If you claim oil was the reason for Iraq, please turn off your computer and power in your house. Stop driving your car as you are contributing to the cause of the blame.
It is our government's job to secure energy resources for its people so you can't blame G.W. Bush for doing his job. His methods can be debated and made impeachable if you wish. However, if he is impeachable, it would have been done long ago. There are lots of loud people who want to take him down if they can. There are also the quiet people who will speak with their votes. Vote your conscience!

It is, it seems, a little late in the day for Mr.
McGovern to be calling for impeachment of
Bush and Cheney. And, he is being a little political
in attributing the failure of the democrats to act on
impeaching these two criminals by attributing their
failure to "a lack of courage and statesmanship...."
Only a former politician would be so kind; the
Democrats have SOLD OUT! End of story!

A belated comment re: why won't congress impeach Bush/Cheney. These two and their cronies represent a "political moffia" in the US!!!!!! They have used any tactic available to achieve their objectives and to make themselves and their buddies richer! They are a disgrace and yet they wield such power that the woosie Democrates are afraid of them. It's a DISGRACE. The governing body of our great nation are a bunch of CHICKEN S----. I hated Nixion and what he stood for but I would take Tricky Dickie back in a minute when I look at what this country has become. I LOVE my country and I cry everyday when I look at what we have become thanks to BUSH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can only say, I'm glad I'm old and won't have to live with the consequences of what the last eight years has wrought for too much longer. I feel our only hope is Hillary-----she's a smart, real person who has her feet firmly planted in reality.
Thank you,

I bet that Mr. McGovern remembers 2002, when the PATRIOT Act was being passed and the executive branch was threatening Iraq with war over WMDs that were clearly not even proven to exist. I bet he was asking the same kinds of questions as me: "How is this happening? How on earth does 9/11 justify this kind of knee-jerk response, throwing our civil liberties out the window and threatening an apparently peaceful country with war?"

But guess what? The Congress totally went along with it. They either didn't ask those questions, or gave the wrong answers.

So who has clean hands to impeach the president? Ron Paul and Dennis Kucinich (who as it has already been mentioned, would like to impeach Cheney), and probably some others, but probably not enough to make it anything other than the ridiculous partisan farce that the Clinton impeachment was.

This whole problem, alright at least half this problem wouldn't have posibly happened had we decided to recount the votes whenever voter counting disaster took place in florida. Instead Gov. Bush helped his bro out and got him in (it woulden't have hurt had kerry stood his ground) but you get my drift. The war might not have been over by now had Kerry won, but we might have been a step closer to the right direction.

Interesting comment by McGovern and nice to hear somebody with some experience have an opinion about the highly questionable conduct of the republic's dynamic duo, even if he is a democrat. We have seen a president without real moral issues for quite some time. It would be refreshing to a new president with some moral fiber!

The Bush presidency is the direct fault of the Democratic party. There is no way either election should have been so close as to allow a few votes to even matter.
Al Gore lost because he was too close to Bill Clinton, and he didn't know how to behave in public (something he has worked on and I believe learned from) Kerry lost because from a field of better candidates, the Democratic leadership allowed him to buy his way into the nomination.

Both elections were a case of who do I dislike least and compared to Gore and Kerry, the voters were split down the middle allowing the "creative" votes to matter.

W won two elections where it was the Presidency was the Democrats to lose, and they did so in a fine manner. You want to see the Republican's keep control of the White House? Pick Hillary as the Democrat's nominee and you will guarantee it.

This is all about the War in Iraq, Afganistan, and Terror from "Wimp" who could not fight his way through wet toilet paper. What Bush and Cheney are guilty of is not fighting to "WIN" which is better than McGovern who with the help of the Media and US Government and the American People, not the US Military, lose the war in Viet Nam. The dems know they are still the Post Viet Nam Democratic Party and they are afraid to let the AMerican People know they still are weak on securtiy and defense and believe terrorism is for law enforcement to fight since it is not a war.

To Renee,
Thanks for your service. I believe that you deserve the same level of benefits that WWII vets got: housing loans, education grants, superb health care, rehabilitiation if needed, and disability compensation if rehab isn't possible. And first class all the way. You and I might disagree on whether you should be in Iraq, but we can certainly agree that you deserve the best when you get back home.

Renee says, "All of you call yourself Americans!!! HOW DARE YOU!!!! Have you forgotten what happend September 11th, 2001! "

We well remember what happened on September 11. Osams bin Laden arranged for some Saudi Arabians to drive airplanes into three buildings, killing 3500 Americans. We invaded Afghanistan and replaced the Taliban with an elected government which we hope will survive, despite the growing strength of the Taliban. Osama bin Ladin, though, is having a nice dinner right now and making a new videotape ridiculing us.

Then, we attacked Iraq for reasons that had nothing to do with 9-11. It was because we wrongly believed that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction. Our government was either lying to us about WMDs or was just stupid - take your pick. I choose stupid myself, since the former head of the CIA now says in his book that the "slam dunk" comment was the worst mistake of his life.

The war in Iraq has cost another 3500 lives and no WMDs have been found.

During the War on Terror, terrorists and Iraqi insurgents have killed about 7,000 Americans. During that time aspirin has killed 5 times as many Americans and tobacco killed 50 times as many.

Confronting fundamentalists who would set up theocratic totalitiarian nations is important, but it is not the only problem in the world.

7 years of economic expansion, longest in US history.
Tax cuts for all taxpayers, total taxes paid by the top 1% UP, highest ever.
Two new democratic country's and 63 million newly freed people.
No Child Left Behind
911 stewardship, followed by the highest ranking by any President.
National debt down to less than 1% of budget, ahead of schedule, and in the face of a spend/spend liberal congress.

Can you hear that lame duck quaking??

Make accusations and compaints AFTER the fact and not offer any incite to who he would like to see from his own party win the Presidency and what route to "make things better" for the Dems other than impeach a lame duck Pres. Maybe he has no clue, like the rest of them, of what to do other than accuse and name call.

Mark Ruffalo- Bob in Frankfort??? Really?

Do you really think that the end-all decision to impeach Bush is legit because Mark Ruffalo supports it?

Isn't his wife named Sunshine??? Wasn't he in the movie, "13 Going On 30?"

I rest my case.

Like all hate based diatribes, this one vibrates with vitriol and forgoes fact. There is a reason bi-partisan support is lacking and it has nothing to do with politics or courage. There is no fondation in fact for the impeachment of President Bush and Vice-president Chaney.
On the other hand, there is strong evidence that Senate Leader Reid and House Speaker Pelosi are completley incompetent and deserve to be ousted from their seats in congress.

National debt INCREASED 50%; Possibly the SEVEN largest deficits in U.S. history; Possibly?? -- possibly because he isn't finished yet. Historically, wars meant increased taxes and financial sacrifices while they are going on. (Talk to ANYONE who lived through World War II). Bush has given tax breaks instead and pushed this debt onto generations to come.
.
"Mission Accomplished" over 1,700 DAYS ago! We did topple Saddam's gov't.-- so why do we have 190,000 troops and thousands of paid guards still there?

Is reading "The Pet Goat" while Americans are dying in our cities ANYONE's idea of leadership?. Films show he was told about the second attack, but never asked ONE question or made any effort to contact the Pentagon or anyone else. As Karl Rove told ABC, Bush did this so that he wouldn't "disturb the children". Forget about the other 290 million Americans who were terrified and hoped for some message from "the commander guy".

4 days of misery on a bridge in a major U.S. city and the most powerful man in American can't take the time to make ONE CALL to the Pentagon to get help. While millions of Americans watched in horror day after day, almost any caring human being in the same all-powerful spot would have made one call to the Army, Navy, Marines, Coast Guard, or even Air Force and said "I WANT A HELICOPTER ON THAT BRIDGE NOW!!!". Don't pretend this so-called "compassionate conservative" commander-in-chief didn't have the power to do it.. He just didn't CARE enough, Americans looked so pathetic and helpless for so long that it gave Fidel Castro, of all people, a chance to offer aid.

"Rumfeld will stay"; Your point-- Bush LIED all the way to the end.

"We've never been 'stay the course"; Again, your point?-- another blatant LIE.

Intelligence community blamed for Iraq and Tenet given our highest possible civilian award; Do you even know why he got the award? -- George Tenet told Bush "slam dunk" and Bush did not fire, demote, or reprimand him, instead he gave him the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Zero minutes in prison for Libby CONVICTED of twice as many crimes as Clinton impeached for. Speaking of Clinton, how many people did he pardon on his way out?? -- Clinton pardoned several well-known people. The major difference is that they had COMPLETED THEIR JAIL TIME before being pardoned. The major exception was Mark Rich. Rich's defense lawyer personally went to Hillary Clinton and asked that she convince her husband to pardon Rich. Who was the lawyer that helped get him off? None other than Bush's buddy Scooter Libby.

“Hell of a job, Brownie”. So --- just another example that Bush didn't know what he was talking about.

Not ONE thing in the original statement that wasn't a FACT. So facts are "moronic"?

"I'll repeat what I said. I truly am not that concerned about (bin Laden)" -- George W. ("I'm a uniter") Bush

Bien,

How much of American history do you know? You belong with Rucker from WV. Neither one of you are apparently capable of calculating facts and coming to a logical conclusion.
Without W., we never would have had a 9/11 attack. They would not have dared attack a country run by Al Gore, and thousands of young Americans would still be around today to counteract votes from excuses from citizens like you 2.

How ridiculous! If President Bush was a democrat there would be no talk of impeachment. He has not lied, nor have they done anything worth impeaching anyone over. Look back at Clinton, the bulbous-nosed, car-salesman of a president who filthied the office by cheating on his wife, betrayed the country by handing over secrets to the chinese while that one asian guy took the fall, geee..... wake up America!
Stop calling good evil and evil good....

Unfortunately, W and his Dick are too powerful to allow impeachment to happen, even though they are undoubtedly guilty of treasonous activitivities against the United States and deserve the proper punishments for their activities.
Thankfully, we have constitutional protections to prevent them from continuing their evil regime.

McGovern was the hand-picked candidate Nixon wanted to run against.

Muskie was comfortably ahead in all the polls and by precisely the same margins in all.

Enter clever Kenny Claussen, Deputy Communications Director at the White House, who, with Muskie stationery in hand, penned the Canuck Letter, which not only drove Muskie out of the presidential race but clean out of politics!

Nixon got the opponent he wanted.

AS AN AMERICAN CITIZEN, NOW IN MY 50'S, I AM SO DISAPPOINTED WITH HOW OUR POLITICAL SYSTEM HAS BEEN BOUGHT BY CORPORAE WEASELS, WITH THEIR OWN AGENDA. WHOEVER GETS INTO THE WHITE HOUSE THIS TIME, WILL EITHER PLAY BALL, OR GET BOUGHT OUT BY THESE SAME WEASELS. WE NEED A SERIOUS UNITED EFFORT ON THE PART OF ALL AMERICANS, BY MEANS OF A WORK STOPPAGE, TO COLLAPSE THIS ECONOMY, AND RESTART OUR COUNTRY. UNFORTUNATELY, MOST ARE AFRAID OF LOSING WHAT SCRAPS THEY HAVE, UNKNOWINGLY LOSING THE REST OF IT TO THE WEASELS, LITTLE BY LITTLE.

For those attacking the character or service of Senator George McGovern and asking what he has done for America -
Honored Service as a bomber pilot pilot in WWII with over 20 missions over Nazi occupied Germany.
Honored service as a Senator for three terms from South Dakota.
Service to the world's underprivileged and hungry with prolonged service to the World Food Program.
These are just a few of the many accomplishments and services of the esteemed Senator. As a person who has heard him speak on a few occasions and had to opportunity to meet him, he is one of the most intelligent people I have ever met and has vision and an acute sharpness for a man of his years. I am honored to have met him and any that attack him with baseless nonsense really do not know who he is. Thank you Senator McGovern for your selfless service and continued voice for Americans.

National debt INCREASED 50%; Yes, it's never increased before during a time of war, or any other time for that matter.
Possibly the SEVEN largest deficits in U.S. history; Possibly?? Nice fact. See above also.
"Mission Accomplished" over 1,700 DAYS ago! We did topple Saddam's gov't.
"The Pet Goat" while hundreds died in American cities; Yes, he should have been reading Playboy instead........ that would have prevented a catastrophe already underway that could not be stopped.
4 days of misery on a bridge in a major U.S. city and the most powerful man in American can't take the time to make ONE CALL to the Pentagon to get help; State's job- what would the Pentagon have done here.
"Rumfeld will stay"; Your point?
"We've never been 'stay the course"; Again, your point?
Intelligence community blamed for Iraq and Tenet given our highest possible civilian award; Do you even know why he got the award? Our intelligence was not the only country that reached the same conclusions
Zero minutes in prison for Libby CONVICTED of twice as many crimes as Clinton impeached for. Speaking of Clinton, how many people did he pardon on his way out?? Many pundits agree that Libby did not deserve jail time.
“Hell of a job, Brownie”. So............
“Childrens do learn”. "I did not have sexual relations with that woman". At least this is not a lie.

The late President Ronald Reagan once said,

" Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We must fight for and protect our freedoms or we will be telling our children and grandchildren what it was like to truly be a free United States citizen."

Americans today are facing the greatest challenge that our forefathers dreaded 230 years ago. It is time to face the challenge again and voice our opinions before its too late.

For those of you bemoaning the fact that it's too late to do anything about impeachment -

On October 8, 1998, Henry Hyde introduced a resolution to the Judiciary Committee to authorize an investigation as to whether or not there were sufficient grounds to impeach the president.

The trial started on January 7, 1999.

The trial ended on February 12, 1999.

Take heart! We may still have time to salvage what is left of "Our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honor"

But we'd better get busy.
