Blitzer: What would you ask the Democrats in South Carolina?

Weigh in on the South Carolina Democratic debate.
Weigh in on the South Carolina Democratic debate.

WASHINGTON (CNN) - I am going to be hosting a Democratic presidential debate on Monday, January 21, in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The CNN debate will be co-sponsored with the Congressional Black Caucus Institute. Suzanne Malveaux and Joe Johns will be joining me in the questioning. All of us are really looking forward to this debate which coincides with Martin Luther King, Jr. Day in the United States.

It comes just before the Democratic primary in South Carolina on Saturday, January 26. Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama and John Edwards all have respective strengths and weaknesses in that state. Hopefully, we will be able to learn more about these three candidates during that forum, which airs at 8 p.m. ET on CNN. The two earlier Democratic debates I moderated – in New Hampshire in early June and in Nevada in November – included a lot more candidates. Several of them, as you know, have dropped out. This one should be more manageable.

There are so many questions all of us have about the candidates. I have my ideas, and am excited, but l really want to hear from you - I would love your input. Let me know what you would ask these Democratic candidates if you had the chance. This race for the White House is at a pivotal point for the Democrats and the Republicans. And the stakes for the nation are very high. Thanks in advance.

    Question for Edwards:
I am a small business employer of about 90 people. I used to participate in my employees health care costs 100%. Then we went down to 75%, now 50% and next month probably 0% participation. General liability insurance, garage keepers insurance and especially workers compensation insurance costs keep rising. Laywers file claims as soon as they see you have insurance. Insurance companies settle these claims whether they are false or not because it costs less to settle than defend, thus raising insurance premiums. We as business owners cut benefits. You are backed by lawyers in your campain. What would you do to control the ridiculous amount of lawsuits that the lawyers file?

If elected for two terms, by the time you leave office, Social Security will be a few years away from paying out more than it is taking in. When do you plan on fixing Social Security and how?

To all candidates: Explain in detail if you are for the proposal to merge Mexico, Canada and the US into one nation.

To all candidates: Everyone running for president claims to have "experience" but in my 50 years I see that the issues have not changed and nothing gets done.

To the media: Stop focusing on stupid stuff like Hilary crying and focus on the issues; exportation of jobs, government corruption, etc.

    1) Our electoral and legislative processes are arcane and byzantine. As president, you actually have little power-any and all CHANGE has to be enacted by the white house. What are your plans for making government more efficient and responsive.

    2) The Bush administration has frequently used a sort of "emergency cover letter" on laws to make legal things the broader US public would never agree with. Will you continue this tradition? Outlaw it?

A question to all candidates should be ,

How far will you go to uncover the truth and prosecute .

If an ongoing investigation uncovers wrong doing by the prior administration,

specifically in the area of purposely misleading the people, resulting in an abuse of

    office .

I would ask if they would pull out of Iraq even if it meant that Al Qaeda would be able to take over?

Ask all candidates how many al qaeda we have killed in Iraq and how many of the Iraqi civilian casualties were intentionally inflicted by al qaeda and its like minded organizations.

Sen. Clinton now claims to be the candidate for change. We see her very close with her family.
Yet Sen. Clinton supports the Cuban policy of President Bush that only permits Cuban Americans visiting their immediate family relatives in Cuba ONCE every THREE years. If your relative inCuba was a cousin, an aunt or an uncle you could never see them!
How can she claim to be for change and family yet support such a cruel policy?

After the last 7 years, the Patriot Act, and wiretapping controversies, I would ask all the candidates :

What will you do to restore and repair the breaches that now exist in our civil rights and to revitalize the intended system of checks and balances in our government?

WE HEAR ALL THE TIME ABOUT OTHER COUNTRIES GETTING AHEAD IN EDUCATION. HOW ARE WE GOING TO IMPROVE EDUCATION IN THIS COUNTRY? MOST COUNTRIES WHO HAVE HIGHER STANDARDS ALSO HAVE COMPETATIVE EXAMS AT EVERY LEVEL. iN USA THE STUDENTS GET HIGH SCHOOL DIPLAMO WITHOUT BASIC LEVELS OF SCIENCE, MATH AND LANGUAGE SKILLS.

CAN WE GIVE INCENTIVES TO CORPORATIONS TO PROMOTE EDUCATION
AT PRIMARY LEVEL AND INNER CITIES?

I AGREE WITH MANY WHO FEEL MEDIA IS GIVING A LIGHTER TREATMENT AND ALLOWS MR. BARACK OBAMA TO GENERALIZE ANSWERS IN FLOWERY LANGUAGE AND FRILLS. MRS. HILLARY CLINTON IS SUBJECTED TO TOUGH QUESTIONING AND SCRUTINY. I LIKE THE WAY SHE ANSWERS THOUGHTFULLY AND CAREFULLY. IT IS IRRESPONSIBLE FOR A POLITICIAN TO GLOSS OVER HARD ISSUES BY PLAY ON LANGUAGE.

MR. OBAMA IS YOUNG AND SHOULD ACCUMULATE EXPERIENCE WORKING IN THE SENATE AND ESTABLISH A RECORD OF ACCOMPLISHMENTS BEFORE HE STANDS FOR PRESIDENCY. I CANNOT MAKE A DECISION BASED ON HIS CURRENT TRACK RECORD.

A lot of attention has been placed on the dismal housing market, with some of you proposing bailout efforts to revive the economy... what I don't hear about is the issues surrounding the credit card debt in this country and how the credit card companies continue to change their policies of rates and monthly payment which results in people/families who previously budgeted for one rate now facing economic hardships or bankruptsy. Does any candidate have a plan to limit this issue?

    My question would be:

Are you prepared to increase the tax on fuel, and support the spread of high speed rail, for the benefit of both the environment and the economy?

Hi Wolf, I am totally bewildered at the way the neocons and the PNAC have NEVER been fully exposed to the American public! Even educated adults have NO IDEA of the ideological underpinnings of the present administration. Everybody laughed when Hillary Clinton talked of a "vast right-wing conspiracy," when, in fact, that was completely accurate! Since the 1960's at the University of Chicago, through the fall of the Iron Curtain, to Cheney, Wolfowitz, Rumsfeld, Kristol, Bolton, Jeb Bush et.al. and their "Rebuilding America's Defenses" document of September 2000, our so-called "liberal" media – CNN included – have done an excellent job of keeping our citizens in the dark about the cabal that has seized and infiltrated our democracy! When are Americans going to be told the truth about the holier than thou Republicans whose sole purpose is to control our government in perpetuity AND spread American imperialism through perpetual, unilateral warfare??????????????

  20. Fast Track

    Obama:

Do you think you've fast tracked your career?

And if poverty is your excuse for using drugs and being speculated to have sold drugs for the extra money, what does that tell the working people doing it the right way, albeit the slower way?

Why haven't you been present for more than 50% of the votes in the Senate?

    Thank You Wolfe:
I hope you would ask every candidate: You all talk about Change and that it is time for Change: IF you where elected President, What Changes would you Make to Better our Country? And Be More specific in Your Answers!

" The Statement we need a change " is not a policy its just a slogan!
