Top Giuliani staffers are going without a salary in January, CNN has learned.

MYRTLE BEACH, South Carolina (CNN) — CNN has learned that top staff members of Rudy Giuliani's presidential campaign were asked to work without pay for the month of January, and perhaps longer, so that campaign resources could be focused on the Florida Republican presidential primary.

Two sources in the campaign, speaking on condition of anonymity, insisted the campaign was not in dire financial straits. A third campaign source, however, said "things are starting to get tight" and that "it was more telling than asking" the senior staff to forgo paychecks beginning the first of the year.

Another source disagreed, saying it was a "voluntary" move by senior staff members "so all of our resources could be targeted toward Florida…Our campaign is not living hand to mouth right now…"

The officials did not immediately provide a number of staffers who were subject to the new policy. Nor would campaign officials disclose the amount of money the campaign had in the bank.

UPDATE: The Giuliani campaign reports as of December 31 it has $12.7 million cash on hand, of which over $7 million can be used for the primary contests.

Rudy's response:

"Remember 9/11."

Moses Adelante, NYC   January 11th, 2008 9:36 am ET

The only reason why this would pose a problem is if people working understood they would be paid.

People volunteer behind their candadite all the time. Or at least they should.

I know I have!!

Tim, Minnesota   January 11th, 2008 9:39 am ET

Rudy will somehow take credit for this. Watch.

javon   January 11th, 2008 9:43 am ET

that's a great way to keep up staff morale. Go Rudy! Didn't you make millions off your 9/11 fame? Spend your own cash if you wanna be president so bad, why don't you?

Seam, Philly PA   January 11th, 2008 9:45 am ET

Giuliani has no chance of winning. He's broke. He's wasting all his time and resources in Florida.

Martin J. Stab   January 11th, 2008 9:49 am ET

Fool!

green   January 11th, 2008 9:58 am ET

Huckabee was on CNN this morning and said he didn't release that convicted serial rapist- he just paroled him. Parole and release many the same thing! And of course the CNN lady just sat there and didn't call him on it. What sorority did you get her from???

Christopher   January 11th, 2008 10:00 am ET

Your done Rudy…your strategy is helping both John McCain and Mike Huckabee. My opinion is Ruby and Romney are finished in this race. Thompson and Huckabee may stick it out for a while but will eventually fade and drop out. Who wins the nomination and presidency? John McCain and Joe Lieberman will beat Obama and hjis running mate Edwards handily.

rll   January 11th, 2008 10:01 am ET

So how do we know that CNN isn't lying again ??????

Nine Eleven   January 11th, 2008 10:02 am ET

This can't be real. 9/11 hasn't been brought into it.

Key   January 11th, 2008 10:04 am ET

And who is going to win?

Huck, the Christian pacifist socialist nannystater?
McCain, the grumpy old RINO?
Mitt, the flip-flopper?

Rudy isn't doing well, but he towers over those guys

If you are a suppporter, send him cash!

Christopher   January 11th, 2008 10:07 am ET

McCain, the grumpy old RINO is a much better chose than that crooked womanizing Giuliani!!

jth   January 11th, 2008 10:08 am ET

If you can give me Barack Oboma vs. either Giuliani or Fred Thompson, I will not care about the election this year. Oboma is a bad ass and so is Giuliani and Fred. If you have liberal view vote Giuliani and if you have conservative views then vote Fred… McCain is not a badass and ran very divisive campaigns when he ran for senate. Huckabee is like a republican version of Howard Dean (He says stupid things). Ron Paul is just planning on running as a third party and probably gets money from MoveOn.soros and other extreme organizations (even if he is serious he does not represent the ideas of democrats enough for me to vote for him.).

Ann   January 11th, 2008 10:11 am ET

Gee–Rudy asks staff to work without pay–Romney pull ads from South Carolina and Florida–Obama pull in 8 million dollars in 8 days—Rove attacks Obama and praises Hillary!

RUDY …RUDY…RUDY …….to all those doubters, be gone after Feb 5th …out best overall Rep candidate ; McCain (conservative fraud) and Huckabee (Ronald Reagan, you ain't) will not win in Nov against any Dem candidate…wake up ! RUDY CAN AND WILL BEAT HILLARY !

BigMofo   January 11th, 2008 10:15 am ET

JDel   January 11th, 2008 10:18 am ET

Have you wonder why Giuliani lost to Clinton FOR .the senate? … In New York. No less.!
Most new Yorkers know Giuiliani for his dictator mentality.. thinks like HUGO CHAVEZ.

Jim   January 11th, 2008 10:18 am ET

Why is this being raised negatively ….it is actually a great demonstration of his fiscal conservatism and his abilities to manage and lead a campaign trading off various options to win the Rep nomination.Don't let his Rep competitors fool you along with most of all, the liberal media who know that Rudy would be a formidable candidate against Hillary or Obama ie especially Hillary. They are trying to stop him anyway they can !

Newzaroo Fargo, ND   January 11th, 2008 10:18 am ET

The Daily Kos calls for Michigan democrats to cross-over and vote for Mitt Romney in their GOP primary.

Alan   January 11th, 2008 10:19 am ET

CNN is not going to question Hillary and her no women is illgal statement of yesterday in Nevada.

Is CNN going to an analysis of the economic policies of the D front runners to show the American people just how much of their money is going to dissappear. They calim to be for the middle class, but all of us in the middle are going to have less to spend when they get done giving everything to everybody.

Wayne, Greenville TX   January 11th, 2008 10:19 am ET

With all the millions of dollars Rudy made by cashing on on 9/11, you'd think he'd be able to pay his people. If this is an indicator of his financial abilities, then no one should vote for Rudy for ANY office - even dog catcher….

Paul, Tampa, FL   January 11th, 2008 10:20 am ET

What??? If it doesn't pay to support pure evil, WTH is this world coming to?

Alex   January 11th, 2008 10:20 am ET

Rudy is the only republican candidate who has a chance in heck to beat a democrat in 2008. Nothing more to be said.

Chris, Middletown, CT   January 11th, 2008 10:20 am ET

He runs his campaign fiscally conservative….and his policies are socially liberal….smells like a moderate to me….hey….doesn't 70% of the country describe themselves that way too?? 70% of us are moderates….regardless of which party you below to….and he's the only moderate running….

Mike, NJ   January 11th, 2008 10:27 am ET

Rudy said that the coffers were filled to the nine. Eleven days later al Qaeda may have transferred the money out of the account.

Bob M   January 11th, 2008 10:30 am ET

JDel: Giuliani dropped out of the Senate race due to his prostate cancer. He would have beaten the snot out of Hilary in the election. Believe it or not, but there's MORE to New York STATE than just NYC. Upstate loves Rudy.

Mike, NJ   January 11th, 2008 10:30 am ET

Rudy will do well to make this race go to convention. Ron Paul is still growing exponentially, he should peak for super Tuesday, be a delegate.

Rudy   January 11th, 2008 10:30 am ET

But my city was attacked… I can be a good president, really.

Joe   January 11th, 2008 10:31 am ET

Agreed, Jim at 10:13am. Rudy is our best shot to keep the White House.

Vin   January 11th, 2008 10:34 am ET

This is the Rudy that New Yorkers know about and have been waiting to surface - behind the press events and prepared speeches is a guy who expects his staff to sacrifice everthing, including their own livelihoods, for his needs, and expects total loyalty and fielty without giving any to the people who walk through fire for him.

You can be sure that this is how a President Rudy will act, filling government with sycophantic yes-men and (maybe) women who will be expected to do little else but take his phone calls and implement his edicts.

Scott   January 11th, 2008 10:36 am ET

In other words, the money's drying up.

Jack K.   January 11th, 2008 10:38 am ET

I wouldn't work for him even if he paid me.

Wonder what's in it for them if he gets the nod from the GOP and gets elected?

Felix   January 11th, 2008 10:39 am ET

Rudy's campaign is beginning to look amateurish!

snakesup   January 11th, 2008 10:42 am ET

Rudy is a great movie about a walk-on football player at Notre Dame.

…nothing else………

Steve   January 11th, 2008 10:42 am ET

Lets set things straight from the start, I voted for George Bush. ….What Republicans fail to notice is that over 70% of the nation wants the war over. 5 out of the 6 candidates support continuing the war. If you elect any of these candidates, the republicans will not win, plain and simple. You have one choice if you want a true republican in the white house and i will not mention his name in fear of being censored.

Independent in IA   January 11th, 2008 10:44 am ET

He probably spent all the funds to buy gifts for both his wife and his current girl friend. They're both very high-maintenance, ya know.

S.B. Stein E.B. NJ   January 11th, 2008 10:44 am ET

With this revelation, it really should make supporters wonder if Rudy will have enough money to make it to Super Dooper Tuesday in February. Rudy should be talking more about his previous experience as a U.S. Attorney; who did he prosecute and his successes and failures there. What specifically did Rudy do in New York that made it better? How was it recieved by those that live and work there? Did he work with the city council to get it done in a bipartisan fashion? If not, then how does he expect to work with Congress?

If all Rudy talks about is September of 2001, then he is flogging a dead horse. He did an okay job that day and for the weeks after, but nothing he did really got the city ready for an attack like that. Forsight is something the next president should have. If he keeps say that we need to be on the "offense in the war on terror," then he needs to relook at "the war." It will need more than just soldiers and marines to go and fight large battles just in one country. There needs to be other aspects that support our friends and changes minds.

Bob   January 11th, 2008 10:50 am ET

Rudy was done form the start, He did not seam to want to want hard enough to win. His idea of missing in Iowa and NH was a terribe idea for someone that wanted to become President.

phil   January 11th, 2008 10:52 am ET

Rudy, there will be parting gifts at the door. Thanks for participating.

Jim   January 11th, 2008 10:53 am ET

So McCain is broke, Rudy, Huckabee and Thompson are all almost broke and Romney has $500M left to spend. The advantage here is clearly to Romney, but Paul still has a lot of that $20M left and that allows him to stay on the air when the others (except Romney) are silenced and fighting each other for free media. This is going to the convention and I think it will be pretty darn ugly. What fun!

ron   January 11th, 2008 10:53 am ET

Rudy was hated in NYC before 9/11. Got a bump from the attack. Hey wasn't that Hillary Clinton walking beside him with a face mask on trudging through the muck and sadness of Ground Zero? I think so! I say Hillary is the real New Yorker in race. Let Rudy and his trophy wife and his butt-buddy Kerik go and make their millions overseas. HILLARY IN 2008!!!!

Jeff   January 11th, 2008 10:56 am ET

Rudy will be fine; his finance problems aren't nearly as bad as 9/11 was. Boy, 9/11 was a tough day. But this? This is nothing. Not compared to 9/11.

To reiterate: 9/11.

mike   January 11th, 2008 10:56 am ET

That would help free up some resources!

i had great regard for the likes of pres. clinton until he unjustly and ignorantly uttered some unfounded claim that sen. barack obama's judgements are a fairy tale. i urge him not to tarnish his own image because his wife is running for the oval office.

Joshua   January 11th, 2008 11:03 am ET

Why doesn't Rudy use some of that money he has made over the years exploiting 9/11 to cover his staff?

chris   January 11th, 2008 11:04 am ET

I think that either Rudy or Huck are our best chance to KILL the Hajis and that is what I want to do..So who ever gets the nod is who I will vote for…I cant believe the stupidity of of all the weak sisters in America who have no constitution for war..It is never chosen but in the end very needed..Not to sure about Iraq, (or Bush for that matter)..For the reasons of 1) Bush is a turd and 2) We should have KILLED every living thing in Afghanistan several times over and then began working our way carpet bombing the border zones of Pakistan. We should have also Killed Mushareff as well. Then lastly told the Saudi Royal family they had 2 hours to pack their s..t and get out because the palace walls were about to become fill dirt.

Jim   January 11th, 2008 11:09 am ET

OK, so you're protecting him. I get it. I expected it. Everyone knows you like him and that affects how you cover him. But hey, a lot of people in AZ and NV know about McCain's gambling problems. It will come out in the general election whether you like it or not. Deleting my comment doesn't make it any less true, folks. Have a nice day.

Dumbo   January 11th, 2008 11:16 am ET

Who was Rudy Juliani on September 10th?

He was a has been mayor, getting his second divorce (first wife was a cousin), and was no where in the ratings - and he was full of hatred. Look at his side kick Kerick - how could someone so sleazy be so close to Juliani, and him not know it?

September 11 - He suddenly became a hero - and I will admit, he did a good job of keeping NYC together, although it was not just him, but he was the face.

John   January 11th, 2008 11:17 am ET

Basically skipping the first races of the nominating process is a terrible insult to the people of those states and to the whole process. Talk about a cynical old-school politicians and you have to put Rudy on the list.

If I here him mention 9/11 as the reason for xyz once more I may puke.

Goodbye and goodnight Rudy. Thank you for your service, please go back to shaking down people, companies and countries with your consulting firm.

Mccain would be super as well. I am concerned that the stress of the job would be more than he can deal with at his age. I would be willing to vote for him depending on who he has for a vice president. Mccain is truly a GREAT American. I think Rudy would be a great war president due to the fact that this whole thing that the U.S is schlogging through will break wide open again if the Hajis see a weak pres take over..i.e Obama, or Hillary…I do not have anything negative to say about them except that we need to stay tough or all those American lives we have lost will be for not.

Mike Huckabee   January 11th, 2008 11:36 am ET

Florida is mine Rudy, your taunting of 9-11 do not help there, pack your bags and hit the road jack.

houstonray   January 11th, 2008 11:39 am ET

You have to remember, the 9/10 Rudy was not well liked, he was not very popular with most people in New York. Then 9/11 came along and he, rightfully at that point, enjoyed a huge upswing in popularity due to his actions. I always heard from friend in New York that 49 states know him mostly because of 9/11 but that as soon as America figured out what New York knew about him on 9/10, he wouldn't stand a chance of being elected.

DR   January 11th, 2008 11:39 am ET

Rudy will never be able to take away Florida's illegal alien vote from Liberal Democrat John McCain who has the backing of Ted Kennedy and Al Gore's running mate Joe Lieberman. Do you think the Clinton team is afraid of Rudy? They have faced him before, and they were pretty successful. I have to imagine they would love for that to happen again.

Sorry Rudy, the shelf life on your 9/11 song and dance has been long expired.

The intelligent and the informed won't let your presence in NYC during 9/11 make up for your corruption and ignorance.

If my golden retreiver had been at your desk during the attacks, he would be the "hero". -Only he wouldn't still be cashing in on it.

Back your bags, tough guy. And don't let the door hit you on the @ss on the way out.

Rudy did not lose to Hillary in the NY Senate race. She defeated Rick Lazio. Rudy was forced out for health reasons and some say by information that Hillary had on him. Most likely from the 900 files that she had in the White House illegally. Please get your facts straight before you run your mouth.

Yes! there it is. wait for it, it's coming, wait , wait, wait for it… Ronald Reagan! Yes! Aaaaaaah! One is never let down by Rudy. His message is consistent….. 9/11, Ronald Reagan.-

Why keep calling Rudy a "womanizer" his marriage was well over….his ex-wife couldn't find time when he was very sick & if you saw his swearing in to be Mayor of NYC she let her kid get away w/bad manners while Rudy was taking theoath…made no attempt to stop the boy I never saw any parent let a kid get away w/such antics!. Many of the guys running now have had girlfriends & will never marry them. His personal life should never be an issue because many of these same people who are trying to make an issue of it have private lives that would make you blush. Anyway, who is more qualified. A Senator does the least work! Let's face it…a Mayor or Govenor has a much harder job…that's why Senator's don't have to (& most don't if you checked the record)even show up half the time! Mayor's & Govenor's have to be on the front lines every day & work the hardest. Rudy has a great record in everything he did & that was before 911! Why shouldn't he bring 911 up! Which one of the Republican's/Democrat's would too if they could. The government # 1 priority before the economy, health care, & anything else is to PROTECT it's citizens!!! Afterthat, they can work on other important issues.People don't understand or forget that we were INVADED! We have let our guard down & it will happen again……I am a Democrat waiting for a TRUE Democrat to vote for! Why couldn't LIEBERMAN be in the running?

Giuliani's plan is to increase the military in a time when our economy is suffering can be a devastating prospect. I have heard rumors (today again) of a potential second economic depression that could make the 1929's depression look like a walk in the park. Can you say 20% unemployement? Do you like eating cat food? No? So do your homework and vite wisely. We can't afford to live beyond our means anymore, people, we borrow, print and overtax to survive. Our federal government is killing us all. Giuliani (and most of the others) has no plan to achieve peace, or to ever stop spending billions of dollars on other countries. He has no plan, first of all, to stop sending billions of dollars to support the military dictator in Pakistan. We are internationally hated more than ever, only now we are also hated by non-Muslims countries, and Giuliani would make things worse for Americans. He also has absolutely no plans to stop borrowing money from China. England's standard of living is now higher than ours for the first time since the 19th Century, and Giuliani's dreams for military expansion would certainly place a huge financial burden on the tax payer. He also has no decent plan to balance the budget because you can't balance a budget when you are planning on a multi-billion-dollar military expansion, and we can't balance the budget until we stop borrowing money. We are not rich, we live on credit, and what will happen when we can no longer make those interest payments? Giuliani is not fiscally responsible and he could be the worst mistake we ever make. And he is NOT alone, it is time voters in this country to wake and do their homework.

Cory, Raleigh NC   January 11th, 2008 1:54 pm ET

hmmm Rudy, do you plan to pay the soldiers and government workers while you are president? This is just absurd.

I guess, technically, no person is illegal. She can say that and not be proven wrong. However there are many people commiting illegal acts and anyone that slipped across the border in the middle of the night is in the country illegally. No one will call her on that either. She continually get a free ride on any subject.

Just one problem with your strategy the American people are not going to vote for Bush part III. Everyone knows that Alf's dad…I mean Joe Lieberman is nothing more than a career politician. Examine the facts…once a so called democrat until the democrats figured him out…then he became "an independent" out of desperation, but with the help and money of the repuke party he got to sit in a tarnished seat a little longer. Joe was the demise of Al Gore and no repuke is going to vote for a go with the flow flip flopper like Alf's dad. Please people let's learn from the horrible last 7 years, grow up, think for yourselves and for God's sake see threw the scare tactics. Vote for the future of our country not your party.

Hey viv, I believe you meant "on paper" and did your mommy leave for work before she helped you spell democrat? More proof folks that the "No Child Left Behind" program is priceless. Remember Repukes stand for hidden taxes with everything on credit with commie countries like China, Russia and the fine country of Mexico (not commie but still crappy). Tax and spend works…only spend what you have in the bank. The days of the corporations and the 1% are over. Please change the Rudy channel before he starts drag for dollars again.

Does anybody find it concerning one of our presidential candidates (Obama) belongs to a church with a "non-negotiable commitment to Africa". The church is called' Trinity United Church of Christ, also you have to be of certain race to belong to this church. I find this disturbing shouldn't our president have a non-negotiable commitment to the US. If you would like to check out the church for yourself the website is http://www.tucc.org/about.htm

Rudy's reputation was mud before 9/11. New York would have risen following 9/11 with or without him. If he's turns out to be the Republican nominee watch the party split big time. The fireworks will be interesting!!!!

A simple solution…why doesn't Rudy simply put the unpaid staffers on the NYCPD payrolls and then pay them to drive him around on his "personal errands"?

Rudy for President…NOT!!!

Christopher, Madison, WI   January 11th, 2008 2:34 pm ET

McCain, the grumpy old RINO is a much better chose than that crooked womanizing Giuliani!!

I'm sure his trophy wife would agree! I think you meant "choice" not chose. Just goes to show if can't speak English don't write…in fact ,please don't express your opinion at all. You only look as ridiculous as the current unelected President. Leave the voting to those in the population that progressed past second grade. What color is the sky on your planet? If drag queen Rudy were so confident is his run he wouldn't be playing the match the money game with our tax dollars. BTW those little 8 points in the big scheme of things would mean nothing. It's the total count that cuts to the bottom line. Do you really understand this process? New to this country, or are you just joining the program already destroyed by Rove and his evil Diebold machine courtesy of Ken Blackwell? Can hardly wait to see how Rove will spin his attacks on Obama after he wins the nomination. Can everyone say racism? Of course it won't fly in the black districts of the south as the Klan is out numbered unlike Rove's chapter in Texas.

Only a neocon warmonger will be allowed to win this fraudulent election. If that was not the plan the states would not be using the voting machines. There is no substitute for paper ballots if the aim is accuracy. We must look very foolish to the rest of the world when we preach about democracy and fair elections.

Just checked a few minutes ago and here on planet Earth the sky is still blue, brother.

Wake up and smell the coffee, Chris! Rudy's got the juice in this campaign. Ya just won't see it until later this month. And do us all a favor and drop the nonsensical diatribe about Karl Rove and Ken Blackwell. Rove is the 800 pound guerilla in this campaign, particularly if he hooks up with Guiliani. Strategically and tactically, he runs a campaign like nobody's business. Race will not be an issue, at least it won't be in Guiliani's campaign. Blackwell? Well, all he did was conduct a full and impartial investigation of the voting results and machines used in Ohio in 2004. The machines were fine and Bush still won the state by 118,000 votes.

A quick math lesson for Chris. Of course the "total count" is the bottom line. No one would disagree. If 100 million votes are tabulated and Rudy wins by 8 pts., then guess what? It means he had a higher vote count than the other guy!!

Remember back in the '60s when most of the smart people seemed to be on the Left side of the ledger. Christopher is a fine example of why that intelligence seems to now lie on the Right……..Geez!

mmm Peanuts   January 11th, 2008 3:27 pm ET

This one time I went to NYC to see if I could score some sweet tickets to the monster truck fight in Chicago that weekend. I was walking down the street looking for the guy who sold me peanuts the last time I was in the city (I really liked peanuts with that special peanut sauce on them). Someone told me he had moved and that if I wanted peanuts then I'd have to go to the baseball park. Well, needless to say, the baseball park was blue. It was so crowded that I couldn't see the pidgeons that were going to buy me the peanuts. All of a sudden everyone started to leave the baseball park where they were playing the soccer game. Once everyone left and the music stopped there were lots of peanuts all over the place. None of them had the special peanut sauce on them. Stupid pidgeons.

GO RUDY!!

While I don't agree with neo-con more-war 9/11 Rudy, his staffers going without pay shows the importance of money. When competing with the likes of Mitt who funds his own campaign (so he needs zero grassroots support), the other candidates only continue campaigning by the grace of their grassroots.

JDel: Giuliani dropped out of the Senate race due to his prostate cancer. He would have beaten the snot out of Hilary in the election. Believe it or not, but there's MORE to New York STATE than just NYC. Upstate loves Rudy.

Well that's telling. People who didn't have to live with his decisions love him, while the people that do hate him. Hmmmm………

Also, I know with New Hampshire, polls are getting a bad rap, but Hillary was outpolling him. When she announced in February, early March figures had her down by 3 points. By early April, she was ahead by 8%. He dropped out at the end of the month, right after blowing off potential voters in Rochester to attend a Yankees game.

I might add that this was also right after the Clintons moved to New York, when voters were less likely to support her because they feared that she wasn't a New Yorker.

Finally people are waking up to the fact that most people in New York City already knows-that Guiliani is a bad candidate for office. Guiliani was not very well liked for the 7.5 years of the 8 years he was office, up until 9/11. The time between 9/11 and when he left office was just over 3 months, a very small fraction of the 96 months he was in office. He got re-elected because the democratic challenger was a terrible candidate, not because Guiliani was a good candidate. He exploits 9/11 at every moment for his own political gain which is despicable and shows how terrible a person he is that he would use the death of almost 3.000 people in order to further his career. I hope his campaign goes down the drain and that he goes back to private practice where we won't hear him exploiting 9/11 any more

Wow Rosemary, where I come from it takes 2 parents to blame for ill mannered children. Telling your wife that you are divorcing her on television is shameful. As far as Alf's dad (Joe Lieberman) I beg to differ. This man is not a republican or democrat. He is for sale to the highest bidder. He couldn't get the votes from the democrats in his last election so he went independent. This opened the door for Republicans to campaign and finance his election. He has sided with Bush all along. No real democrat would side with Bush. Now he is in bed with McCain aka Bush part III. We weren't invaded dear. That would be a military action from another country. We were attacked by terrorists or as we like to call them Bush's Saudi buddies. None of them from Afghanistan and none of them from Iraq. No more drag shows and no more mobsters in 2008. FauxNoise may have picked Rudy the drag queen for president but not the American people. This why I know you are not and never have been a democrat. Please blog back and tell me you are a Iraqi vet next. BTW the secret lives thing… are you the "some people say" from FauxNoise? Senators do less work? It seem Rudy the drag queen had plenty of extra time to commit adultery, you remember the same thing folks on the right wanted Clinton impeached for. You cannot and will not have it both ways!

NYC Native   January 11th, 2008 4:03 pm ET

How many of you Rudy-boosters lived in NYC when he was Mayor? If you did, you'd know about Mr. Morality's marriage to his second cousin, later annulled because he claimed he didn't know she was a relative; you'd know about the 20+ civil liberties lawsuits taxpayers had to pay to defend his adminstration against - and lost nearly every one of them. You'd know that Big Daddy Who'll Protect Us built his emergency command center (natives called it his "'Bunker") at the WTC after it had already been attacked and after he had been warned not to do so. That oft-shown clip of him wandering around on 9/11 with a face mask? He had nowhere to go with his Bunker in the dust. 9/11 is all he has and he doesn't even really have that. Give me a break.

Tim   January 11th, 2008 4:04 pm ET

McCain - is about out of cash.
Huckabee - never had any.
Romney - is spending his own money.
Guiliani - is getting tight too.
Ron Paul - raised almost $20 million in the 4th quarter and broke records in the process.

The key to winning is to motivate your base and attract the independent vote.

Ron Paul's honest and proven support of the Constitution motivates the conservative base, his pro-Peace stance and defense of Civil Liberties attract independents.

Ron Paul is the only Republican that can win the general election.

Liberty Works!

His claims of Fixing NY are BS. As a frequent Business Traveler to NY I STILL have to get one of my White Employees to help me get a Cab even when dressed in business attire in front of the Best hotels in Mahatten.

Seriously though. The ONLY question I have for ole Rudy is since he has made an entire career off of 911 (like Bush) I would like to ask him this.

Can you name ONE Mayor of ANY city in the U.S. that you think would have Hidden under their desk crying on 911 if it had happenned in their Cities? If no,t then why do you think doing your job ONE day of the year make you able to run this country??

You are in charge of finances, crime,

your particular city.

If 3000 people get murdered in your

Poor judgment in sleepwalking through New Hampshire and SC. Trapped in Disney World??

Brian Myers, East Northport, NY   January 11th, 2008 4:19 pm ET

blah blah blah 9/11. blah blah blah Ronald Reagan. blah blah blah "Never ran a business…". blah blah blah

jay, Snellville, GA   January 11th, 2008 4:19 pm ET

Ron Paul is the only Republican Candidate that has supporter money on hand. He can attrack the independant voter.

Rudy? I'll say it again. I am a Republican. Always have been. Voted for GWB. I'll sit this one out if its Rudy.

Sideliner   January 11th, 2008 4:19 pm ET

…. yada yada yada ….. 9/11, yada yada yada ……..9/11 is all i hear.

Phil   January 11th, 2008 4:19 pm ET

I bet he could really go for a Ron Paul style money bomb right now.

Eric   January 11th, 2008 4:19 pm ET

That's quite ironic, because the Republicans will be asking the American people the same question — is it OK if we don't pay you the Social Security we owe you, because we need $1 TRILLION every decade to fight our little wars.

John   January 11th, 2008 4:20 pm ET

"The reality is…" all Rudy has to do is make up a lie about this, sell it as "reality" as he does with every other issue. The reality is he will spin anything in his favor to get ahaead in this race, including the deaths of over 3,000 of his fellow New Yorkers. "The reality is", he is a disgusting man and does not deserve the respect Americans place at his feet. He belongs in prison with his buddy Bernie Kerik.

Ticker Shock, Richmond, VA   January 11th, 2008 4:20 pm ET

Rudy Giuliani is a sleaze. I wish more people would pay attention and stop thinking he will be the one to 'save us.' All he is good for is probably hosting a conservative radio talk show.

AJ; Montpelier, VT   January 11th, 2008 4:22 pm ET

"top staff members of Rudy Giuliani's presidential campaign were asked to work without pay for the month of January, and perhaps longer, "

Maybe thats how he plans to make up for the taxes he plans to slash even more. Ask Federal Employees to work free. Just a thought………

J.Wheeler   January 11th, 2008 4:23 pm ET

Guiliani's tendency towards secrecy is a very disturbing foreshadowing of behaviour as President. I wouldn't trust this man at all!

Nelson, Colorado Springs Co   January 11th, 2008 4:27 pm ET

Bad sign

maggie   January 11th, 2008 4:29 pm ET

Rudy's response:

"Remember 9/11."
Yes, remember that if he'd put his disaster headquarters in a reasonable place, you would NEVER have seen hide nor hair of him on the streets, rescue would have been better organized, communications more effective, more lives saved, more information gathered. Remember that over 300 heroes died that day because they didn't get the message to evacuate on the broke radios that Rudy failed to address and were STILL not working after 9 years (since 93 attacks on WTC when they found out firefighter radios didn't work in the towers). Remember that he KNEW bldg 7 was coming down, said so on camera and now denies it at every single turn. remember

Tommy Tiger   January 11th, 2008 4:29 pm ET

He can blow his wad in FLorida if he wants, but I'll never vote for him. He and politicians like him are the problem, not part of the solution.

"McCain - is about out of cash.
Huckabee - never had any.
Romney - is spending his own money.
Guiliani - is getting tight too.
Ron Paul - raised almost $20 million in the 4th quarter and broke records in the process."

True, but we can't stop now, he needs another 23 million to get to the other end, so don't forget to donate and don't forget that we are doing a $10.00 or better per person funding drive on January 21st…BE THERE. GIVE AS GENEROUSLY AS YOU CAN. and in between drives too y'all…are we out here or NOT? ;-)

Steven   January 11th, 2008 4:32 pm ET

Hope this is the end of dear Rudy, he shall go down for the attacks against Dr.Ron Paul. Useless, and pointless. Rudy needs to educate himself on many issues. I am voting with my brains, so their is only one choice, Dr. Ron Paul.

Ron Drioane   January 11th, 2008 4:33 pm ET

Rudy is paying staffers??

I'm working for Ron Paul here in California for free. The cause of true freedom and and an end to government tyrany is pay enough.

benny   January 11th, 2008 4:34 pm ET

Look all you people who claim that Rudy,HILLARY,Obama,McCain,is going to take care of this great country is a joke any one of these guys become president you all will be crying and complaing about being DRAFTED to fight for the oil companys you can mark my word so shut the hell up and vote for RON PAUL like him or love but at least you want have to worry about taxes that pay for these WARS or laying in a hospital bed without arms or legs go visit Walter Reed sometimes. GO RP.

Rudy Tootie   January 11th, 2008 4:34 pm ET

I hate see him go, The montages of him saying 9/11 have always been a bright spot on the web. I wonder if this policy of not paying people that work hard for you will continue if he were to become president? Oh wait. Ron Paul would do it, he has returned his paycheck since his inauguration for Congress. RP isn't even the multi millionaire that Rufy Tootie is, but he put 300 kids up in Iowa on his own ticket. Good stuff, too bad candidates are allowed to spend their own money on elections…Bet that would shrink the pool down.

Jether J.   January 11th, 2008 4:40 pm ET

For people who are supposed to Republicam or Conserviative, you all sure do talk a lot of junk about you Presidential Candidates.

Why does Obama have to equal wildcard, unknown and cocaine? That is just very nasty to say about someone but I guess that's the game of politics. That's there will not be a Republican President in the White House come January 2009!

Gary Walden   January 11th, 2008 4:41 pm ET

Is Rudy not going to pay his country club dues in January?

Is a potential future president going to ask Americans to go without paying their bills?

That suit doesn't look like it came from Stein-Mart.

Perhaps we can chip in and buy him a subway token. OOOps. Wait ! Rudy only goes in limos and aircraft. Hmmmm. Just another example of some people who can't be bothered with the rabble in order to maintain their lifestyle.

Rudy: Am I wrong? Am I?

(No!)

Well, let's see you take the subway until those people who work for YOU YOU YOU can have a life, too.

Really Rudy, is this setting a good example? Maybe you can sell North Dakota as president to Iran to raise cash for some really swingin' NYC style parties for your wealthy friends. I understand that the Iranians need a new site to build a reactor.

This is where we get the phrase "Dropping out of the election!"

Just retreat to your estate and blame us.

Steven   January 11th, 2008 4:45 pm ET

How any skirts does Rudy wear in a given year,… quite a few. Look online under Rudy Guilanni Drag, he loves to dress up like a woman and show off. GROSS! He makes one ugly woman—even if its not real.

gmajlo   January 11th, 2008 4:51 pm ET

And he wants to be President? I don't think so. What's to stop him from asking the same of the American people?? Think about it.

This is why democrats should not vote. We cannot get through a primary now without democrats crying over the results.
