MYRTLE BEACH, South Carolina (CNN) - CNN has learned that top staff members of Rudy Giuliani's presidential campaign were asked to work without pay for the month of January, and perhaps longer, so that campaign resources could be focused on the Florida Republican presidential primary.
Two sources in the campaign, speaking on condition of anonymity, insisted the campaign was not in dire financial straits. A third campaign source, however, said "things are starting to get tight" and that "it was more telling than asking" the senior staff to forgo paychecks beginning the first of the year.
Another source disagreed, saying it was a "voluntary" move by senior staff members "so all of our resources could be targeted toward Florida...Our campaign is not living hand to mouth right now…"
The officials did not immediately provide a number of staffers who were subject to the new policy. Nor would campaign officials disclose the amount of money the campaign had in the bank.
UPDATE: The Giuliani campaign reports as of December 31 it has $12.7 million cash on hand, of which over $7 million can be used for the primary contests.

Lets set things straight from the start, I voted for George Bush. ....What Republicans fail to notice is that over 70% of the nation wants the war over. 5 out of the 6 candidates support continuing the war. If you elect any of these candidates, the republicans will not win, plain and simple. You have one choice if you want a true republican in the white house and i will not mention his name in fear of being censored.
He probably spent all the funds to buy gifts for both his wife and his current girl friend. They're both very high-maintenance, ya know.
With this revelation, it really should make supporters wonder if Rudy will have enough money to make it to Super Dooper Tuesday in February. Rudy should be talking more about his previous experience as a U.S. Attorney; who did he prosecute and his successes and failures there. What specifically did Rudy do in New York that made it better? How was it recieved by those that live and work there? Did he work with the city council to get it done in a bipartisan fashion? If not, then how does he expect to work with Congress?
If all Rudy talks about is September of 2001, then he is flogging a dead horse. He did an okay job that day and for the weeks after, but nothing he did really got the city ready for an attack like that. Forsight is something the next president should have. If he keeps say that we need to be on the "offense in the war on terror," then he needs to relook at "the war." It will need more than just soldiers and marines to go and fight large battles just in one country. There needs to be other aspects that support our friends and changes minds.
Rudy was done form the start, He did not seam to want to want hard enough to win. His idea of missing in Iowa and NH was a terribe idea for someone that wanted to become President.

Giuliani's plan is to increase the military in a time when our economy is suffering can be a devastating prospect. I have heard rumors (today again) of a potential second economic depression that could make the 1929's depression look like a walk in the park. Can you say 20% unemployement? Do you like eating cat food? No? So do your homework and vite wisely. We can't afford to live beyond our means anymore, people, we borrow, print and overtax to survive. Our federal government is killing us all. Giuliani (and most of the others) has no plan to achieve peace, or to ever stop spending billions of dollars on other countries. He has no plan, first of all, to stop sending billions of dollars to support the military dictator in Pakistan. We are internationally hated more than ever, only now we are also hated by non-Muslims countries, and Giuliani would make things worse for Americans. He also has absolutely no plans to stop borrowing money from China. England's standard of living is now higher than ours for the first time since the 19th Century, and Giuliani's dreams for military expansion would certainly place a huge financial burden on the tax payer. He also has no decent plan to balance the budget because you can't balance a budget when you are planning on a multi-billion-dollar military expansion, and we can't balance the budget until we stop borrowing money. We are not rich, we live on credit, and what will happen when we can no longer make those interest payments? Giuliani is not fiscally responsible and he could be the worst mistake we ever make. And he is NOT alone, it is time voters in this country to wake and do their homework.

Just one problem with your strategy the American people are not going to vote for Bush part III. Everyone knows that Alf's dad...I mean Joe Lieberman is nothing more than a career politician. Examine the facts...once a so called democrat until the democrats figured him out...then he became "an independent" out of desperation, but with the help and money of the repuke party he got to sit in a tarnished seat a little longer. Wake up and smell the coffee, Chris! Rudy's got the juice in this campaign. Ya just won't see it until later this month. And do us all a favor and drop the nonsensical diatribe about Karl Rove and Ken Blackwell. Rove is the 800 pound guerilla in this campaign, particularly if he hooks up with Guiliani. Strategically and tactically, he runs a campaign like nobody's business. Race will not be an issue, at least it won't be in Guiliani's campaign. Blackwell? Well, all he did was conduct a full and impartial investigation of the voting results and machines used in Ohio in 2004. The machines were fine and Bush still won the state by 118,000 votes.
A quick math lesson for Chris. Of course the "total count" is the bottom line. No one would disagree. If 100 million votes are tabulated and Rudy wins by 8 pts., then guess what? It means he had a higher vote count than the other guy!!

This one time I went to NYC to see if I could score some sweet tickets to the monster truck fight in Chicago that weekend. I was walking down the street looking for the guy who sold me peanuts the last time I was in the city (I really liked peanuts with that special peanut sauce on them). Someone told me he had moved and that if I wanted peanuts then I'd have to go to the baseball park. Well, needless to say, the baseball park was blue. It was so crowded that I couldn't see the pidgeons that were going to buy me the peanuts. All of a sudden everyone started to leave the baseball park where they were playing the soccer game. Once everyone left and the music stopped there were lots of peanuts all over the place. None of them had the special peanut sauce on them. Stupid pidgeons.

Finally people are waking up to the fact that most people in New York City already knows-that Guiliani is a bad candidate for office. Guiliani was not very well liked for the 7.5 years of the 8 years he was office, up until 9/11. The time between 9/11 and when he left office was just over 3 months, a very small fraction of the 96 months he was in office. He got re-elected because the democratic challenger was a terrible candidate, not because Guiliani was a good candidate. He exploits 9/11 at every moment for his own political gain which is despicable and shows how terrible a person he is that he would use the death of almost 3.000 people in order to further his career. I hope his campaign goes down the drain and that he goes back to private practice where we won't hear him exploiting 9/11 any more

Why keep calling Rudy a "womanizer" his marriage was well over….his ex-wife couldn't find time when he was very sick & if you saw his swearing in to be Mayor of NYC she let her kid get away w/bad manners while Rudy was taking theoath…made no attempt to stop the boy I never saw any parent let a kid get away w/such antics!. Many of the guys running now have had girlfriends & will never marry them. His personal life should never be an issue because many of these same people who are trying to make an issue of it have private lives that would make you blush. Anyway, who is more qualified. one thing i learned this year is that a candidate can opt to be paid using his campaign funds. i wasn't told if there is a limit on the pay he or she could give him or her self but i would guess there is not.
Unfortunately Rudy isn't going to get out of the race just yet. It was always his intent to take just enough of the major delegate states to corner the nomination. When Michael Mukasey was appointed as Attorney General, it became very clear that the Republican Convention would be a "coronation instead of a campaign." Rudy doesn't need to worry about campaign funds......he has Mitt who is actively participating in an "auction....not an election." While Romney is not viable as a presidential candidate, he can probably garner enough delegates to barter for the VP position at the convention.

Almost all the money he has made came from independent individuals who have donated to his site. Not from organizations or corporations and yes you are right about him running as a third party as time goes by.

A couple of corrections need to be applied to some of the comments above:
First, Rudy G. had an 18pt. lead over Hillary Clinton before he dropped out of the PRIMARY campaign. Had he gone head-to-head with her in the general election, he probably would have won by at least 20 pts.
Second, Rudy G. was very popular with the New York City electorate (go back and check the polls if you wish) prior to and after 9/11. Only the City Council and the local public safety unions were down on him at that time. The voters loved him!

He is in Florida drumming up support, eating at the finest restraunts, drinking wine while his staffers are eating McDonalds and NOW have to pay for their own gas and hotel rooms and stuff? Way to go Rudy. Is this how you will run the government like Sadam with his 7 palaces with meals made every night at each palace while his country men was starving?
I think it's time for Rudy to face the fact that he will not be able to take FL. His staffers are nuts for working without pay, but it's their choice.

Doesnt ANYONE remember on this lil blog we have here,..... how GOOD ole Rudy played right into the whole Bush agenda????? Rudy,...tried and tested,..as a previous person wrote,.... yes definatly tried and true!!!! Remember our last 2 terms of Presidency? If you can recall,... how Rudy was Bushs lil NYC backup? They both profited off of the 9-11 ordeal. THEY BOTH GOT SOMETHING from the victims of a horrible occasion,.... I quit listening to either one of them after that. So my opinion is still VERY clear as to what I felt was profiteering on the backs the dead.
DOES ANYONE remember what happened there? The speeches of Mr. Rudy,..and Bush,....... the support for eachother and the use of a public outcry? Remember the endorsment of Rudy towards Bush for the second term???
And you want to actually give credit to him as a choice for Presidential nomination??? Bush's third unnofficial term begins. Sigh,....... remember the past ladies n' gents,...remember the support between the two mentioned individuals. And think to yourself,....... Did rudy ride this one on the unfortunate? Or,....is he only a pawn to continue an agenda because law states only two terms are allowed in office.....
If I didnt remember them being so buddy buddy,..... I might also,... think him capable of concideration. Rudy's strategy is unconventional but I hope that it will work. I know that he's got my vote here in california. Why? he's the only candidate focusing on laying out all the changes/goals he has for this country covering economic, foreighn affairs, immigration and many other domestic policies. We need someone who is willing to burn the midnight candle to come up with real and good solutions for this country. While other candidates are depending on sound bites and likability....Rudy knows that this country is at a cross-road and americans can not live on sound bites and personalities alone. John Mccain is a good man but he has little economic, foreign relations and domestic experience. John will be good at setting the right battle strategy should we go into another war but Rudy is a well-rounded candidate who can bring this country out of recession and keep us strong to fight another day should we need to fight. The dems wants mccain to win the GOP primary because they know it will be easy for them to attack him for being top heavy in military with nothing else on economic and domestic policies. Wake up people...we need an academic and studious leader right now and Rudy is the right man to get this country back on track.
Rudy and his campaign are a sham. He's running on empty and so are his policies. He's the genious who located the emergency center in the trade towers in spite of all recommendations to the contrary. I don't trust the guy nor his motives, and exploiting his 9/11 "fame" for political gains is outrageous. Look into Rudy, his statements and policies and you begin to see the real him and he ain't as heroic as he makes himself out to be.
Rudy doesn't have a chance. Although, he is man enough to dress like a woman... maybe this is what America needs! Look up what firefighters think about Rudy. G O O G L E Stop Dreaming.
