Romney, McCain, and Huckabee are in a tight race in Michigan.
Romney, McCain, and Huckabee are in a tight race in Michigan.

WASHINGTON (CNN) — Republicans John McCain, Mitt Romney, and Mike Huckabee are in a three-way battle for the top spot in Michigan, two new polls out Saturday suggest.

According to a just released Detroit News poll, McCain holds a statistically insignificant 1 point lead over Mitt Romney there, 27 percent to 26 percent. Huckabee is close behind with 19 percent.

Meanwhile, a new American Research Group poll shows McCain with a 7 point lead over Romney, 34 percent to 27 percent. Huckabee stands at 15 percent in that poll.

Both polls carry a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.

After much study, Mitt Romney is the best for illegal immigration along with Fred Thompson. Tancredo gave his endorcement to Mitt as the best on this issue.

Mitt has a great health plan that will be from $zero to not over $180 per month for those making largest incomes. He has excellent economic strength and record, and this is what we need, not a political Washington thinker/not doer. If Perot had been elected, his economic strength would have been good for our country, he would have got a lot done. I heard on Fox and Cnn that Mitt has "all the right policies on issues". I believe he will get many things accomplished and will be very good for America! Remember, he is a great family man and has 5 sons who are outstanding….a difficult accomplishment these days.

Chris Harrison   January 14th, 2008 9:42 pm ET

I have only one motive in mind by righting about Mr. Romney. My hope is to leave a better future and country to my family than what we started with.
I think this is our last chance to choose a president that has the intelligence to make a difference with our energy and domestic policies. I think Mitt is the only person that has the smarts to carry the ball on something this big and important. God help us if we get another George Bush or the likes of the other simple minded candidates such as the guitar playing preacher or the old war hero fossil not mention Barack or Hillary.
Look what the candidates are fighting about it makes me sick. This isn't about our future it's about their egos.
I can understand what the younger people see in Obama. It's his vitality and his message of change without substance. He promises everybody everything without a way to pay for it. Like Clinton he identifies with the young people and says “I feel your pain”. I can see right through Barack's message of HOPE. The problem is Barack's message is flawed, Barack doesn't see our pain he doesn't understand the word pain he is a product of the system of handouts. Barack hasn't done anything in his life but serve himself with handouts from you and me. Obama is like Frankenstein built with spare parts paid for by the taxpayer. This man knows how to play the system like a finely tuned musical instrument. One thing I do know for sure is nothing is free and at some point we will have to pay for Barack's promises.

Mitt is the real deal.
Go Mitt

To Walt in TX:

The scandals, frauds and misappropriation of funds during the Olympics you refer to happened before Mitt came in. He was brought in to clean house, and he did. Read his book "Turnaround, Crisis, Leadership and the Olympic Games". He has the integrity to fix broken Washington.

And to Charles in Salt Lake City:

When a buisness in a competitive economy is run efficently, then not only are profits up, but so is tax revenue to the government, and prices to customers are down. Profits are reinvested into new lines of business, governments operate within budget limits (hopefully), and customers have more money to spend on different things, thus the standard of living goes up as jobs in new industries are created. Therefore, there is no need to ship the surplus population to Canada or Mexico. I work for the government and I can tell you there is a need to trim a lot in Washington. Mitt has the skill to find waste and cut it.

Go Mitt!!!

Maybe people need to learn how to spell… what is "gun hoe"?

Jason, Bedford MA   January 13th, 2008 8:43 pm ET

McCain is as arrogant as politicians come, right in the mold of George W. He'd lose in a landslide to any Democrat currently up for the nomination. He is too close to the Iraq war and far too close to the military. The guy can be rather correctly seen as an outright warmonger. And if anyone looks into his personal life, be prepared for some shockers. How can you govern a country if you can't govern your own home? Romney is one of the very few Republicans who've actually shown he can get things done. The man can help the economy - McCain and Huckabee are complete dumbells when compared to him. Anybody worried about the economy out there? Then vote Romney.

almanojodo   January 13th, 2008 6:20 pm ET

I RESENT HUCKABEE CALLING HIMSELF THE "CHRISTIAN CANDIDATE." EVERY RUPUBLICAN CANDIDATE IS A CHRISTIAN. HE IS NO MORE CHRISTIAN THAN THE REST. THEY ALL BELIEVE THE BIBLE TO BE THE WORD OF GOD. HUCKABEE & ROMNEY PERHAPS BELIEVE THE BIBLE MOST ABSOLUTELY. OTHERS MAY READ IT MORE FIGURATIVELY. NEVER THE LESS, EVERY CANDIDATE IS EQUALLY CHRISTIAN. I THINK HUCKABEE'S TRYING TO CLAIM THE CHRISTIAN LABEL ALL FOR HIMSELF IS A VERY UNCHRISTIAN ACTION.

Mechelle   January 13th, 2008 5:47 pm ET

The educated and business savvy in American can clearly see that Mitt is the man for this job.

Too bad religious bigotry is alive and well in America. There isn't a religion on this earth that doesn't put down another. Those who praise Hucklebee have no political sense at all. They are blinded by this "Christian" thing. What goes around comes around. Hucklebee is not even good for the Christians with his bigotry!

McCain is not a true republican.

Guiliani needs to step it up with his strong points and not throw radical ideas on the plate to get attention.

Thompson is a great actor…we'll just leave it at that.

Michigan, vote with your common sense. Don't let your vote be manipulated by the media.

Huckabee is a great evangelical leader, but that does not qualify one to run for president.

Mitt is too conservative…

McCain can stand in a general election, because this country is very disilusioned with conservative ideology. McCain will get the independent vote. And he actually has experience.

And, Ms. Janine Lindenm…., fair trade is a good thing. Check human rights documents/organizations. And go to college.

Steve   January 13th, 2008 2:16 pm ET

Romney is the most qualified and the most real candidate. McCain is a Hypocrite. He is in no position to call Romney a 'flip-flop'. Romney has a record to prove his position changes are genuine. McCain has not only flip-flopped on gay marriage and roe v wade, he also flip-flopped on his first wife. We need someone with personal integrity and intelligence. Romney is that person!

Tom Masters   January 13th, 2008 2:09 pm ET

I fought via the internet and phone to get Ron Paul included in the debates,as many people did, and we made a difference. Now I'm asking for help for Dennis Kucinich, they are trying to exclude him in Las Vegas after inviting him to debate. I am encourged by what I'm reading, the american people are not just going to lay down this time. It is no longer a party thing it's an American thing. American's are not STUPID, we just thought elected officals had our best interest at heart after all we support them. We work long hours so they can have the best of everything! Surely we can still call freedom of speach one of our rights. Want your country back! Vote Dennis Kucinich! PAY ATTN TO THE RECOUNT OF NEW HAMPSHIRE'S VOTE!!!

Steve in NH   January 13th, 2008 12:30 pm ET

I don't understand how Republicans can throw there support towards McCain and Huckabee. They both have records of high taxes and sympathy towards illegal immigrants, both of which are the opposite of what conservatives believe. And then there's McCain-Feingold ! How can these guys get away with calling themselves true conservative candidates ? Wake up. Pay attention.

The best Repubican candidate is Mitt Romney. He is the most intelligent and has what it takes to lead this country during trying times. He'll tackle the tough issues just as he has in his past business practices. He has demonstarted leadership in his businesses and the Olympics, which will translate nicely to the White House.

Michigan voters…………..if you don't believe me, go see him speak and/or go to his website. Listen to him. He will help your economic issues. Vote for Mitt.

Jimmy   January 13th, 2008 12:15 pm ET

While Obama is kissing the back side of the Republican's, Senator Clinton is working to bring about true change. She has introduced a stimulus package for congressional consideration, while Obama is out promising unity with words, but no Action. He still has alot to learn. One being multi-tasking. Not only is he running for President, but he is still a Senator, does he not have to earn his money. We are still paying him and since running for President he has not introduced nothing. Not even showing up for important votes.

He will say what you want to hear, but has proven NOT the ABILITY to deleiver. Clinton still has several more fellow Senator endorsments then Obama. That is the ability to unite. When you do it within the area you work and with the people you work with. Obama has failed at this too. Also an area that Kerry showed weakness in, getting his fellow Senator's behind him.

SENATOR HILLARY CLINTON FOR PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES!!

I don't care how great McCain is, he is TOO OLD for 4 years, let alone 8 years of this grueling job of President. He falls asleep in important meetings for crying out loud!!!!!

McCain also has an extremely liberal agenda with the exception of keeping us in the war in Iraq.

Mitt Romney HAS the whole package. For those few of you above posters who haven't learned anything about this race, wake up! Leave a candidates personal faith out of it, unless that's the topic they're running on. Only Huckabee is fool enough to continually splatter the appropriately chosen airwaves with his hypocritical faith, hoping it wins him votes. btw, it is against our country's mission to choose our President by the candidates' faith.

John McCain is a cut and run Republican when it comes to bringing jobs back to Michigan. Michigan has the highest unemployment rate in our whole nation.

McCain: Great man. honest. I don;t believe he has the physical ability or the psychological patience to handle the rigors of office. He sometimes can not stay awake. I guess translated that means he is a little too much the "grumpy old man".

Oh, and not that he has a chance, but Ron Paul supporters please quit crying foul. His organization has always been racist and while we need out fo the box ideas, many of his are off the planet crazy.

Phil Memphis, TN   January 13th, 2008 9:57 am ET

Phil (the other Phil, not me), great post. I believe Edwards is the best candidate available right now but I do not know if he can offset the media attention that has been given to Obama, Clinton, Romney, Huckabee, McCain. Speaking of some of them:

Obama: Not as different as he claims to be if you look at his record. Is not present or votes "present " to avoid taking a stand and slings mud just like any other politician. Now his camp is making thinly veiled accusations that Clinton is racist? and he is supposed to be a uniter? We have not seen the real Obama yet, and until I do I can not give him a vote.

Clinton: I don't understand why she is so polarizing, as I am not sure what she has ever done to deserve it other than hold her head high while others around her were losing theirs. But for some reason… oh.. i think that is called hate and bigotry.

Huckabee: Sorry, but he never seems to have a clue what is going on in the world around him and always gets his facts wrong. I am also a little worried about his religious zeal. I certainly have no opposition to a Baptist (or Jewish or Catholic or etc.) President but it seems his entire decision making process wil be based on his theocratic beliefs.

Jack K.   January 13th, 2008 8:57 am ET

Nice to see the GOP is still keeping their "top-3″ in the fold.

The DEM party has dropped John Edwards completely. Once the lobbyists and special interest groups realized when he said: " I won't accept money from any lobbyists or special interests, and his vote could not be bouth–that he wasn't just talkiing about the finacier's, energy, or pharmaceutical industries—he also meant the NEA, AARP, ACLU, ASLPCA, AND UNIONS–the party leadership began a massive campaign against John Edwards.

Beginning with Kerry (lead pimp and wimp)…and now every Senator or Congressman they can arm twist to come out for Obama or Clinton. The DNC leadership is on a jihad to eliminate Edwards. Why….because if he stays the lobbyists and special interest money fueling the DEM party (in record amounts I might add) may dry up.

Why else would the DNC distance itself from Edwards when:
1. He was #2 in Iowa—against the Hillary (Bill Clinton) machine!
2. In all polls, he stands a good chance of beating ANY of the GOP candidates in the General election.

It's sad–the DNC leadership has been seeking a candidate with the vision and electability of John Kennedy–when one finally shows up, they're too afraid of the "loss of big money" to embrace him.

Go figure.

Guess I'll be voting for McCain–or getting drunk on election day. Because as a lifelong Democrat–I refuse to vote for Clinton or Obama–and will register as an independent again. After seeing what the DNC is doing, I'm disgusted and disillusioned.

Sure hope the people in the real world…the American voters…take a second look at John Edwards. And I'll continue to send him my checks and offer support to the bitter end. Then, I'm done with politics.

What does all this say about McCain's character? These blurbs are from goggling his wives…. Carol, Cindy… wow…

According to the newspaper, McCain returned to Jacksonville in 1973 after more than five years as a prisoner of war to find that his wife was a different person. Carol McCain, once a model, had been badly injured in a car wreck in 1969. The article recounts that her injuries "left her 4 inches shorter and on crutches, and she gained a good deal of weight."
By 1979, McCain was concerned that his Naval career was not advancing and pondering his future. He met Cindy Hensley, an attractive 25-year-old woman from a wealthy Arizona family. McCain courted her and married her in May 1980 — a month after getting a divorce.
Carol McCain waited for the return of her husband from his Vietnamese captivity for five and a half long years; as McCain idolator David Grann put it in the New Republic, she was "a kind of modern-day Penelope to McCain's Odysseus." She carried her burden with nobility, and resolve, staying faithful to the man she refused to believe she had lost – even in the face of her own tragedy. It was Christmas Eve, 1969, while driving along a snowbound street, that she went crashing into a telephone pole: the impact hurled her through the windshield. She lost her left leg, ruptured her spleen, and went through a long series of agonizingly painful operations. Before the accident, she had been a statuesque beauty who worked as a model; she came out of it with four inches subtracted from her height, broken in body – but not in spirit. Her love for her war hero husband forbade her from letting him know anything of her condition: he knew nothing of the accident, and she refused to write him about it since it would only make his burden heavier.

From Justin's website;
THE RETURN OF THE INGRATE
Any man would be lucky to have such a fierce, unbending love: she stuck by him, agitating for his release, and living for the day of his return. Her devotion was repaid with rejection. He learned of her accident on the plane home, and wasted no time in getting rid of her. He was soon back to his old tricks of playing the field – "just as he had at the Naval Academy," says Grann – and soon sought a divorce. He openly acknowledges that his behavior was solely responsible for the break-up of his marriage, and seems to glory in the macho role while simultaneously professing at least some sense of remorse: "I think she has reason to be bitter," McCain told one interviewer.

I think this is going to be a problem again for Him, plus the Keating Five

Well, Google the names of the two ladies and see for yourself.

Does anybody remember McCain last year in the following:

Illegal Aliens do the jobs Americans won't do. McCain had the nerve to challenge the American people that he would pay $50 an hour to anyone who would come to his ranch and work the fields the way the Illegal Aliens do.

Remember the phrase "JOBS AMERICANS WON'T DO?"

HE'S NOT TALKING ABOUT ILLEGALS BUT HE STILL WANTS TO DO IT. IF HE IS ELECTED, HE WILL WORK WITH KENNEDY AND THE REST OF THE CROWD TO MAKE IT HAPPEN. REMEMBER LINDSEY GRAHAM ALSO SUPPORTED THE AMNESTY BILL, FOLKS.

CAN SOMEBODY PLEASE PUT McCAIN ON THE SPOT AND MAKE HIM TAKE A STAND ON ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION? THE AMERICAN PEOPLE DESERVE TO KNOW JUST WHERE THAT MAN STANDS.

I THOUGHT MITT ROMNEY WAS GOING TO DO IT BUT HE IS NOT TAKING THE FIGHT TO McCAIN. AND FRED THOMPSON IS ONLY INTERESTED IN THUMPING HUCKABEE BECAUSE McCAIN IS HIS FRIEND.

I read a great book authored by Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins entitled "Left Behind". The book introduces a great man by the name of Nicoloae Carpathia Which ended up to be the Antichrist. This man described as the new Romanian ambassador to the U.N. He was young, dashing, charming, persuasive, well dressed, well spoken, and no blemishes on his record. This man was very popular with his colleagues and the people. He was in the lower house of deputies and rose to the occasion from nowhere to unseat the President of Romania without an election. Everyone become under the man's hypnotic power. Now the story goes on in the next books -Tribulation Force and of course, Nicolae. The Barrack Obahma story–in most respects, paints the same story.

I love you Oprah for supporting this brother, but my gut tells me these are the years before the coming of Christ. Proceed with Caution!

What is so amazing to me is that Mitt Romney is in a very strong first place position with 30 Delegates; compared to Huckabee's 18 Delegates and McCain's measley 10 Delegates!!!!

Mitt Romney won 8 Delegates in just Wyoming alone, compared to "McCain's New Hampshire news media frenzy victory" (McCain received only 7 Delegates for his effort).

It has probably been like "survivor Island" for Mitt Romney. Because you have all of the Republican candidates in an alliance against Mitt Romney trying to destroy his "strong and VERY POWERFUL presidential image". Even the news media and press are telling Mitt Romney to drop out of the race; that he is destroyed, finished!

Mitt Romney deals with adversity, because he really does care about the direction this country has taken. He has small meetings because Mitt likes the opportunity to listen/talk to people on a one-on-one basis. He wants to win this race and it shows!

All you hear about Mitt Romney is his executive business side: But do you have any idea what it took Mitt Romney to become Govenor of Mass and in the process be forced to take on Senator Ted Kennedy supporting the Democratic candidate? In the process Mitt Romney took apart Senator Ted Kennedy brilliantly! Afterwards Mitt Romney was then able to get Senator Ted Kennedy to then endorse his group health plan for Mass! Showing his strong ability in working with Democrats and Republicans alike in getting the job done! Do you have any idea how hard it is for a Republican to become govenor in a Democratic State like Mass??? And then anfterwards uniting the two parties in getting all of the changes for Mass???

Mitt Romney is presidential, he will also take apart any democrat placed in front of him! Anyone else will fall short!

THE DEMOCRATS WILL WIN: unless we all unite around the real front runner and next President Mitt Romney!

Most definitely, no Romney! Just won't vote for him, simply don't like him, even if it mean Dems will win in the end. As for McCain, won't vote for him, either. He should know Huckabee is the best one to lead. Once I know Huckabee won't be the nominee of the Republican party, when he clearly shows he has the quality to be a good leader of this country, I just want to be an independent. What difference does Republicans make anyway? They won't really uphold what's right anyway. Let this country's president be named Hussein Obama or Hillary, not much difference anyway. All the same.

chevos   January 13th, 2008 1:04 am ET

I get tired of John McCain saying that he doesn't want to call a soldier and tell him that his mother or wife is being deported. Anyone serving in the military is either a citizen or has the opportunity to become one. As a citizen, anyone over 18 can request legal residency for his/her parents or wife. Why would the parents or wives be deported? I feel he is trying to gloss over, or justify, his poor record on immigration.

Brian C   January 13th, 2008 12:41 am ET

McCain is a closet lib –immigration policies are a disaster. Look at his record. He is running on his opinion of the troop surge which was happening regardless of what McCain has to say. LOOK AT THE REST OF HIS HISTORY –not good. Huckabee seems a little sleazy… especially with his ill-informed remarks regarding Mitt's religion (odd coming from him), and other "liberal" views in certain areas. Guliani has simply screwed up his campaign with his lazy "stratagies." I like Thompson, but he decided to finally show up too late in the game. The national polls listed in an earlier post are a joke. Have we learned nothing from the primaries and caucuses?? What is the point of taking a poll that isn't going to take place for 10 months? Pollsters can't get it right the day before an election!! DO NOT let the national polls effect your decision. Who will be the best president? We need a manager, a guy who understands the economy, someone who will keep our nation safe from terrorism. I think the only reason Romney is not leading nationally is because much of the nation knows little about his views –only the sound bites of a screwed up media, who are constantly slanting things. With another 10 or so months to go to the election –and if he (Mitt) is Republican nominee, people would get to know him well –and would rally around this guy. I think he would match up well against any of the democrats. In the end, I think he would win comfortably because I think once republicans come to the realization of what would happen with Hillary or Obama at the helm –they will show up at the polls in droves and will win the presidency –way too much at stake this go around…

Pete, Denver, Colorado   January 13th, 2008 12:40 am ET

Stop the polling! Romney is from MI, McCain can't remember how to get their and it isn't religious enough for Huckabee. Pete's poll says Romney by 5%, +/-4%.

Ian   January 13th, 2008 12:33 am ET

Good for McCain for serving in the military (seriously), but tell me again how that makes him a good candidate for president? Just because he won one primary doesn't mean anything.

dolores   January 13th, 2008 12:08 am ET

Richard from Detroit, FYI- A LOT two separate words. That is why you will never control the White House, it requires a basal level of intelligence.

John S. Maine   January 13th, 2008 12:08 am ET

Mitt Romney will get my vote in 2008! I am tired of the straight talk detour on a one way street following Osama to the gates of Hell. You go getem McCain! Just dont fall asleep in anymore State of The Union addreses when President Romney is speaking.

Mitt Romney = Honest Leader with Ability to Unite and Reform Washington

John McCain = war hungry+divisive+grumpy old man+with no economic or executive ability

The Choice is clear Mitt Romney in 2008!

Karen   January 13th, 2008 12:05 am ET

Huckabee all the way!!! He is a real person from a working class family who
understands what so many of us go through in the real world! Also, he completely represents my values! I LIKE MIKE!!!

Rebecca, Michigan,

Considering the scandals, frauds and misappropriation of funds during the Olympics you're bragging about, I wouldn't call that a highlight of anyone's career.
He's just another sleazy politician from Massachusetts.

robert, pasadena, ca   January 12th, 2008 11:16 pm ET

Charles you sound like you've bought a little too much into the teachings of Karl Marx. He had some nice thoughts, like you do, but they ultimately don't make any sense. There is plenty of evidence to show that a solid business background prepares people very well to be successful government leaders. I've never heard Romney say that he plans to turn the government into a profit seeking business. I've only seen his ability to successfully manage large organizations be they public, private, or non-profit.

Marti San Diego, CA   January 12th, 2008 11:07 pm ET

MY FELLOW REPUBLICANS- PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING BEFORE VOTING FOR ANOTHER VETERAN JUST TO SAY THANK YOU (REMEMBER WHERE BOB DOLE GOT US?)

The Real McCain Record
Obstacles in the way of conservative support.

By Mark R. Levin (National Review)

There’s a reason some of John McCain's conservative supporters avoid discussing his record. They want to talk about his personal story, his position on the surge, his supposed electability. But whenever the rest of his career comes up, the knee-jerk reply is to characterize the inquiries as attacks.

The McCain domestic record is a disaster. To say he fought spending, most particularly earmarks, is to nibble around the edges and miss the heart of the matter. For starters, consider:

McCain-Feingold — the most brazen frontal assault on political speech since Buckley v. Valeo.

McCain-Kennedy — the most far-reaching amnesty program in American history.

McCain-Lieberman — the most onerous and intrusive attack on American industry — through reporting, regulating, and taxing authority of greenhouse gases — in American history.

McCain-Kennedy-Edwards — the biggest boon to the trial bar since the tobacco settlement, under the rubric of a patients’ bill of rights.

McCain-Reimportantion of Drugs — a significant blow to pharmaceutical research and development, not to mention consumer safety (hey Rudy, pay attention, see link).

And McCain’s stated opposition to the Bush 2001 and 2003 tax cuts was largely based on socialist, class-warfare rhetoric — tax cuts for the rich, not for the middle class. The public record is full of these statements. Today, he recalls only his insistence on accompanying spending cuts.

As chairman of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation, McCain was consistently hostile to American enterprise, from media and pharmaceutical companies to technology and energy companies.

McCain also led the Gang of 14, which prevented the Republican leadership in the Senate from mounting a rule change that would have ended the systematic use (actual and threatened) of the filibuster to prevent majority approval of judicial nominee.

Vote Romney - the candidate with a very impressive record of decades of achievements in business, as governor of MA, and with the SLC Olympics. Romney is a *proven* leader who has shown time and time again that he can actually get things done. Talk is cheap, accomplishments matter.

Rebecca, Michigan   January 12th, 2008 10:58 pm ET

Romney is the man to help Michigan get back on it's feet. It is clear. I will take Romney's optimism for a Michigan turn-around over the grumpy-old-man negativity of McCain any day. He turned the Olympics around, right? What if McCain had been asked to take over the Olympics, "Well, I'm going to do some straight-talkin' now….you are up the creek and you have no oars. Your luge track is gone and it's not comin' back. Sorry."

Steve   January 12th, 2008 10:56 pm ET

Dear Michigan,
If you have been partially awake for the past 8 years and have seen the deficit spending of John McCain and his sending jobs over seas … I am wondering how you can support this man besides his success as a hero. If you want more illegal workers, please vote for this man. He has been extremely successful in his mission to give away citizenship.

Erik   January 12th, 2008 10:54 pm ET

Having seen most of the candidates in my hometown (Manchester, NH) over & over for many months leading up to the primary - McCain one my vote. He was the consistent in his messaging - not changing his views based on public opinion, polls orwhat ses to be working for the other candidates. McCain is a genuine & honest person. For the first time I believe that a candidate is actually going to do what be says he is going to do. I also like that he works to reduce taxes yet he ensures that tax its are combined with spending cuts - that's a real fiscal conservative. Two times he actually went against tax cuts because they did not include spending cuts which was the right thing to do while risky as a person who wants to be presdent. Some cadidates try to make this out to be bad but I know that true conservatives an intelligent people will see through such desperate attempts.

McCain also puts realistic solutions together. He has a great plan for creating jobs and keeping America competitive - saving the jobs that can be saved and retraining workers for emerging markets while providing compensation to older workers to off set losses from forced late career moves. He will lead America to economic prosperity. McCain has actually made the effort to close the border and address all the illegals gwtting a free ride - getting rid of millions of criminals and getting tax revenue out of the rest. And, McMcain was the first to point out the flaws of Rumsfelds plan and call for the surge - in 2003/2004 and it is working.

Imagine howmuch better off our country would be if McCain had been elected in 2000. I am glad he is now the GOP front runner. McCain is the only GOP candidate with a chance of winning the general election so I hope he gets the nomination!

Check out the McCain website: http://www.johnmccain.com

Regardless of who you might vote for (hopefully John McCain) make sure you get out and vote. Senator McCain and so many others have fought to hard to give us the priveledge of voting - don't waste it!

Vote John McCain 2008!

Lorraine   January 12th, 2008 10:45 pm ET

Barack Obama is speaking the truth about “Change” and “Yes, we can” slogans because we need a new direction in United States for all people. Barback Obama voice is refreshing to those who are willing to take the steps to make the changes along with Barack Obama as our next President of United States. The reason why it is important to support Barack Obama, he wants to take the country into a new direction whereas Hillary Clinton wants the same Bill Clinton’s polices for another 12 years which will overwhelm us. A fresh start with Barack Obama leadership will diffuse the tension around the World allowing USA to speak to those countries that are skeptic of us. With his leadership, we will have better relationships with other countries throughout the World. For this reason, I support Barack Obama for our next President of United States 2008! Are you ready to give Barack Obama your support?

vicki in michigan   January 12th, 2008 10:39 pm ET

I think media is playing a part in people's voting. All are anti Hilary. Media is taking contents from her speeches and manipulating the people voting decisions. Obama and Edward had chance to be on ballets. they are the one who decided not to come to Michigan. It's not Democracy committee's fault. Obama and Edward just want to blame somebody not putting them on the ballets. Obama might be good talker. CHANGE is just a slogan. He can not do anything alone. It's big job and I don't think he is ready for it. He has been senator for only 2 years. I think Huckabee will be good.

Fan-o-huck   January 12th, 2008 10:37 pm ET

Mike Huckabee appears to be a refreshingly genuine, honest, and "unrehearsed" man–I am VERY supportive of his view on American policy and would be SO excited if the Fairtax could actually be passed!!! He has our vote….!!! :)

yusupha Abdoulie   January 12th, 2008 10:36 pm ET

I am a black democrat but it don't take me too long to realize John MacCain is a good candidate. He is very compassionate and he got what it takes to lead this country. His approach on the economy, foreign affairs and immigartion is a step in a right direction. A lot of people is hitting him on immigration but what they don't know he got the best solution to the issue. America needs to wake up and try to address this immigration issue with practicality and kindness. Lets not only talk about the negatives but start speaking about the positive contributions of these immigrants family. They are paying taxes, social security, workers compensation, etc all of which they will never draw the benefits. They are being under paids in jobs and other activities. What happen to justice and human dignity? Some comments on TVs are just terrible. We are all God children and should love and embrace each other. Most immigrants that come to America are only here to provide food for their family and to obtain education. Lets approach this issue with sense not with anger and frustration. Many immigrants are law biden only few wants to spoil their American dream.

America is greatest country in the world and its citizens are compassionate and kind. God will always protect our this land from domestic and foreign enemies. We will not let the enemies instill fear in us nor will it leads us to become anti-immigrants.

I will vote for Maccain if I have to vote for Republican . It is time for democrats to come in power or any good candidates who honestly is ready to lead us to a brighter future

Taufik in Jakarta   January 12th, 2008 10:29 pm ET

Hi, I'm from Indonesia. I think, either Obama or Hillary the President of US, it will give a new era of change in US.

John S. Maine   January 12th, 2008 10:29 pm ET

Do you remember watching John McCain sleeping through last years State of The Union Address. Wow what a great Senator sleeping on the job. We Americans are tired of Washington Insiders like McCain not getting the job done and passing the table scraps to the middle class!

John S. Maine   January 12th, 2008 10:26 pm ET

The Michigan Auto Industry will turn around under a Romney Adminastration. Go to Mitt Romney.Com and watch the Asian Tiger add under Mitt T.V. Mitt Romney understands the economic threat that China is to our jobs and National Security!
Mitt Romney is a great guy who cares about the Auto Workers in Michigan and it pains him to see John McCain write off the Auto Industry. It must be part of John McCains latest Amnesty Plan.

John S. Maine   January 12th, 2008 10:22 pm ET

The two Democrats running for Office have no executive experience as a Governor or Mayor. Neither of them have run a buisness either.

The clear choice for a president who understands how the economy works and who will save jobs in Michigan and around our Country is Governor Mitt Romney. With Mitt Romney you get expeience and honesty. Did you know he helped create Staples and rescued Dominoes Pizza. He turned around the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake and he turned around a staggering $3 billion dollar deficit as Governor in MA.

toospeed   January 12th, 2008 10:19 pm ET

I dont think we should pull out to quick from Iraq, because we let all americans that died over there down.I have at least 10 personal friends over there &unless you see things with your own eyes you dont know. They are there for all of us & if they tell me they see a change I beleive in there judgement because they are there everyday and if they see a change who am I to judge and say pull out it dont matter who died close to you.I thank them every chance I get, so please dont let people tell you this was a mistake.

John S. Maine   January 12th, 2008 10:19 pm ET

I will not support Reverend Huckabee becuase I think he might be mistaken, the White House is not a Church. Mike Huckabee is running as the "christian leader". He looks down on others who have differing religous beliefs. America is representitive of all religions Reverend Huckabee. I believe Jesus would be very upset with your Theocracy. I love America becuase we are a melting pot of many diverse religions. I have friends and familiy members who are Catholics, Mormons, Protestannts, Muslims, Born Agains, Agnositics, Jehovahs Witnesses and Athiests. The President of The United States of America represents every body and the Constitution is clear about that. Reverend Huckabe please stop your fear mongering towards people of other faiths and do America a favor by aplogizing for your divisive comments and campaign! I will say a prayer for you tonight to my God even though he is not approved by you the "Christian Leader".

AMEN!

Simon Nkongho   January 12th, 2008 9:51 pm ET

2008 presidential election is so important that voters should give second
thought to the issues and then choose rightly with America first in mind. I am not at war with color or gender, my choice is Clinton because she is the candidate to do the job right. Remember, America is called to vote for the President, Campaign talks could be colorful but weigh the substance and the possibilties of actualizing the promises being made, then cast a conscious vote for the President.

God Bless America.

Joe   January 12th, 2008 9:38 pm ET

Please support Romney!
We need his business savy. He is clearly the most capable of helping the US economy. The future of our children's livelhood is dependant on the strength of the economy. Also if the economy is strong it is much easier to maintain a strong miltary and a strong leadership role world wide.

Susan Mark   January 12th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

Mitt Romney you are a gem among the candidates….

You have been ignored by the media ( winning the Wyoming Caucas), taken to task by the media and religious persons who are bigoted against your religion…

you have high morals, you have been faithful to your only wife and stood by her side through sickness and health…

just read a blog talking about how McCain dumped his first wife for Cindy…. really a sad commentary on what this country will put up with in terms of our heroes,

same with Guiliani and what he did to his wife, making an announcement in public to the media that he was filing for divorce… what a bad example to all the young men in this country…..

Mitt you are a great example to young men and men everywhere of how one treats a woman you make wedding vows to.

Plus you are extremely motivated, smart, goal oriented, can put together large business plans that work., you saved the Olympics.. you can fix Broken Washington……

You have my vote.

Daniel, NY   January 12th, 2008 9:35 pm ET

A third poll was released tonight by the Detroit Free Press and shows Romney up big on McCain, a twist on the two other two polls here.

phil   January 12th, 2008 9:32 pm ET

Myself, leaning conservative Republican, “blue dog” Democrat, or right wing libertarian, I was bothered by the flip flops by Kerry the most in 2004, but more so this year I am bothered by 2 people just as greatly, but those flops aren’t the only negative spots I see on those candidates.

DO NOTS!!!
-1. Mitt Romney (R), who also makes for a bad president, since he brags about his business understanding and political background being the key to success in our economy, but not only has he outspend all his contenders in the 3 states which have taken place so far, but he has been showing us only one thing, he is not good with money. if his reason for being the best choice is his economic background, how is spending money unwisely a good choice?

-2. Obama (D), his flip flops are apparent as well, first the man ignores God, and religion from his life and shows it by ignoring the pledge, quoting scriptures without the full content within them and quoting them as someone else's ideas other than in the Bible, but now that he is struggling with Christian democrats he is claiming to be a church member, and opening his southern campaign to telling poor black and white churches that is is God's will to put him in office.

DO:
- If you are looking for a strong Christian leader, who has seen real life situations, unlike the average politician, vote Mike Huckabee (R).

- If you are looking for someone who will tell you how they see it, no matter the political pressure elsewhere, vote John McCain (R).

- If you are looking for someone who cares about the middleman and wants to run the country in both a liberal and balanced matter, vote John Edwards (D).

MAYBE:
- If you are a right wing libertarian, just wait till Ron Paul announces his 3rd party bid for the White “something” Libertarian Party, to see if he is your best choice.

But which ever way you do decided to vote, don't vote for who the media tells you to vote, or for who you think is already going to win, vote for who you honestly want in office, vote responsibly, and research your options.

Make sure you make an educated vote, because over the next 4 years, YOU will most likely be the one complaining about the president.

FAIR TAX,LA.   January 12th, 2008 9:26 pm ET

Rumana Khan   January 12th, 2008 9:10 pm ET

I live in Chappaqua New york, yes Hillary's home town. It is very interesting that Obama's supporters are distributing flyers at the Chappaqua train station.

Walt, TX   January 12th, 2008 9:02 pm ET

Neither the "Huckster" nor the Mormon is worthy of the Presidency. They lack a few values that I hold to be important, like love of Country, love of family, integrity, honesty, and last, but not least, good manners!

Lord knows, neither one even had the balls to truly serve their country in the military. They chose the road of living off the largess of the taxpaying public – no guts, no commitment!

John McCain, on the other hand, willingly and bravely, gave it everything he had and came home a hero! A Hero is a good thing!

Brandon Wabeke   January 12th, 2008 8:56 pm ET

My vote will go for Mike Huckabee, I attended a nearby rally that he hosted in Grand Rapids, MI, and he really electrified the crowd. A man that can run a budgeted campaign with a significantly lower amount financially, to becoming a top runner for the GOP, would obviously be a great president.

Allen Friedman--- Henderson, Nevada   January 12th, 2008 8:54 pm ET

I do not care who the Republican nominee is in the '08 election, if this country is dumb enough to even think about electing another Republican to the White House after the last seven years then we have to have the least intelligent people in the solar system! The whole Republican party is pro war and the country is anti war, so how can any Republican get elected? Wake up America!

Nate   January 12th, 2008 8:54 pm ET

Alex, I have to agree. Polls are passed off as objective scientific tests, but really depending on who you ask, how you ask them, who asks them, etc etc it becomes a completely subjective test. The cynical side of me always wants to question whether media tries to use slanted polls to force political momentum the way they want it to go. A lot of people will simply vote for whoever they think is the most popular. I don't exactly get why, but it does seem to be common. Maybe they are just too lazy to go look up stances and make a decision for themselves? I guess it would be like voting for someone just because a talk show radio host says so.

John Raiti   January 12th, 2008 8:50 pm ET

Mac is back, and he will win the White House!

Mcain - WAR MONGER   January 12th, 2008 8:47 pm ET

McCain is the best Rambo America has ever seen.

Lets call him if we need a Rambo.

Romney is about jobs.

Tim, Minnesota   January 12th, 2008 8:42 pm ET

I hope those auto worker's remember who voted and supported CAFTA and NAFTA when they decide who to vote for. Ron Paul voted against those managed trade scams. Ask McCain where he stood

Robet Derbez   January 12th, 2008 8:37 pm ET

I am Bob from Los Angeles, I believe economic fear of recession is making the balance tilt to Democrats, rather than stubborn Republicans. Clinton is right to mention to pull from Iraq and have more Diplomacy in all that region

Alex from A²   January 12th, 2008 8:33 pm ET

I have come to the conclusion that opinion polls mean nothing. The exit polls count except for when you have "the Bradley effect". I wish the media would stop focusing so much on these polls and let the voters come to their own conclusions! Report the issues, not the group consensus.

el slade o   January 12th, 2008 8:33 pm ET

personaly,I will souprt Mike Huckabee im struck by his amazing speech abilaty, his in deepth understanding of the economy. http://www.mikehuckabee.com

Jake, Las Vegas, Nevada   January 12th, 2008 8:29 pm ET

If there is a large democratic turnout for the republican primary you can bet McCain will win. He and Huckabee should be running on the other ticket.

Richard, Ewing NJ   January 12th, 2008 8:26 pm ET

Mitt Rommey will contribute more to US economy by pumping his own money into campaign. He should stay in the primary no matter he is going to lose. We need his money.

TJ   January 12th, 2008 8:25 pm ET

Romney is winning the Republican base. If anyone undecided will to listen with an open mind to Mitt speak, it will only take ten minutes to see that he is brilliant. The dems and media know that Mitt would crush anyone in a one on one debate. Thus the dems and media are still talking up Ron Paul, the Huckster and other losers.

McCain is just another who has no winning ideas like Bob Dole (Sr Senator veteran) in 1996. Obama/Oprah or the Clintons again would have a very big victory against McCain.

Now that the news is out that Rudy is low on money, Mitt is the only candidate that can go the distance and win in November.

If the people of Michigan do not wake up and give Mitt a win that would make the dems and the media very happy indeed.

Sue in Michigan   January 12th, 2008 8:03 pm ET

How interesting that when Obama showed a 7% lead over Hillary, she was headed for sure defeat, but a 7% lead over Huckabee means nothing? Guess it's all in who's reading the numbers.

Richard from Detroit   January 12th, 2008 8:01 pm ET

Well I live close to alot of surburbs near southwest Detroit and drive thru alot of them like Dearborn,Westland,Taylor,Wayne etc everyday and I haven,t seen many McCain signs, mostly Romney and Ron Paul.I have started to see Viva McCain bumper stickers for hispanics in the southwest Detroit area.No surprise to anybody given McCains views on illegal Immigrants.Alot of UAW workers live in those suburbs including many more.We don,t want a President that rights off auto manufacturing and toy making { Everybody remember Lionel? } and anything else that is an American Symbol, to foreign countries like China.McCain looks more like a Manchurian candidate.

USA   January 12th, 2008 7:40 pm ET

Intelligence wins over likeability anyday with me for a president.
Romney wins hands down.

Janine Lindenmulder   January 12th, 2008 7:39 pm ET

McCain is for free trade and amnesty for illegal aliens, that makes him a liberal just like Hillary Clinton. Wake up conservatives he is not on your side.

Charles in Salt Lake City, UT   January 12th, 2008 7:33 pm ET

Even those Republicans who have positive memories of Michigan’s Governor George Romney have more than ample reason to be wary of the motives and message of his self-absorbed son, Mitt.

Much has been said about Mitt Romney’s desperate attacks upon others in his own camp whenever his numbers show signs of falling, of his extravagant campaign expenditures that have proven to be less effective than simply connecting to the people, and of his unflattering inability to respond to even the most basic of issues without having to first carefully weigh his words in order to parse his position in terms that are designed to cloak their multiple meanings.

But the biggest problem with this man is the one that is actually being put forth as his most salient strength — his business success. People who know no better and apparently haven’t actually thought it through actually believe that a person who is able to build up successful businesses should somehow be capable of building up a successful nation or economy. Nothing is farther from the truth!
People of Michigan (and elsewhere), please ask yourselves: exactly what are the fundamental operating “business principles” that make a business successful — and people like Mitt Romney rich?

A business operates in order to make a profit for it’s owners/shareholders, period. It makes a profit by producing something that there is a demand for, and doing so at a cost that is competitive in the marketplace. If it doesn’t make a profit, it goes out of business. So in order to be competitive and produce this profit, it will not only build, develop, and hire — but whenever necessary it will scale down, replace, and lay off. Businesses, after all, have no obligation to its workforce beyond compensation for the benefit the workforce is able to provide to the business. And when workforce is scaled down or replaced to improve the business’ efficiency (and increase its profit), a portion of the workforce is simply “let go.” The business really doesn’t care where it goes; maybe it can be absorbed by other business. Too bad, so sad, but on to the profit, etc.

For those who would like to think a country can “cut the waste” the same way, just where the devil do you suppose the “waste” (people — citizens — other Americans) are supposed to go? Canada? Mexico? A government has to be able to provide a place for EVERY person within it, and with that place comes a guarantee that the government exists in order to preserve the people’s right to “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” You can’t just “eliminate” things that will affect a part of the citizenry unless you have someplace for them to go.

YOU CAN”T RUN A NATION THE SAME WAY YOU WOULD RUN A BUSINESS! You just can’t.

Mitt Romney is not a good fit for a Republican Presidential candidate. His own record shows he’s no true conservative and he is vulnerable on too many fronts; and while Mike Huckabee is a nice enough guy, he too has too much baggage and is basically unelectable in a general election. If you’re looking for a conservative you should put your support behind Fred Thompson. If you’re looking for a moderate you should consider John McCain or Rudi Giuliani. If you’re just looking for someone to beat whoever the Democratic party nominates, then go for any of those three above — any of them could actually do it.

But please reconsider your support of Mitt Romney. It just doesn’t make sense.

Ben   January 12th, 2008 7:27 pm ET

go Huckabee

someone   January 12th, 2008 7:19 pm ET

thats awesome, go Mccain

Jim   January 12th, 2008 7:17 pm ET

as I watched cnn today I noticed that a lot of time was spent on listening to the republican candidates in fla.carolina and mich. Then they went to Las vegas and I thought they would listen to Ron Paul as they gave all the other candidates equal time and exposure. Instead they just want to get some odds on the election like a bunch of gamblers.Cnn is no different than Fox. Even worse after what when on this last week with the Fox New Hampshire debate. There is no such thing as fair and balanced in any media news anymore.Just big business trying to run the country.I'll stick to the internet.
