CNN Anchor Lou Dobbs.
CNN Anchor Lou Dobbs.

WASHINGTON (CNN) – Move over Michael Bloomberg. Another famous figure is the subject of a presidential draft movement: CNN's own Lou Dobbs.

Americans for Legal Immigration PAC — a group, according to its Web site, that supports candidates "who make illegal immigration reduction a top priority" — launched a campaign Wednesday designed to convince the CNN anchor to enter the presidential race if a so-called "pro-amnesty" candidate wins the Republican presidential nomination. According to the group, John McCain, Mike Huckabee, and Rudy Giuliani all fall into that category.

William Gheen, the president of ALIPAC, said the group has over 25,000 active supporters spread across all 50 states and an overwhelming majority of them are ready to support a Dobbs presidential bid. Gheen also expressed confidence in Dobbs' wide electoral appeal.

"Lou Dobbs could run and win because he could easily raise the funds and grassroots support he needs to be a historic and viable candidate quickly," he said. The public is eager to rebuke the DC status quo and would quickly rally to Dobbs."

The group has launched an official Web site and is already using it to solicit fundraising pledges for the potential run and showcase Dobbs anti-illegal immigration stance.

Buzz has long surrounded a Lou Dobbs presidential bid in the blogosphere — even more so after Dobbs wrote a column for CNN.com last November in which he hypothesized an "Independent populist" would win the White House. (The Wall Street Journal published a piece soon after that claimed Dobbs was "seriously contemplating" a bid.)

"I can't imagine any one of the current candidates for their party's nomination being chosen by the American people to lead this nation for the next four years," Dobbs wrote in his column. "I believe the person elected a year from now will be an Independent populist, a man or woman who understands the genius of this country lies in the hearts and minds of its people and not in the prerogatives and power of its elites."

"I believe next November's surprise will be the election of a man or woman of great character, vision and accomplishment, a candidate who has not yet entered the race," he wrote.

Dobbs has repeatedly said he has no plans to run for president. But speaking with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer last week, he refused to rule it out. (Watch Dobbs on a potential presidential bid)

"You never say never, but the fact of the matter is, my commitment, my interest lies in being — doing what I do, which is that of an advocacy journalist on this great network," he said, adding "I'm very flattered by the thoughts."

Gheen acknowledged Dobbs' entrance into the race was unlikely, but said his group is ready to "camp outside his office" should McCain, Huckabee, or Guilaini win the GOP nomination.

I am a big Lou Dobbs fan. He is saying all the stuff we americans are saying in private.

However, I have a question or two.

Lou gets mad about a lot of things, but doesnt ever suggest what he would do about it.

Take immigration. He is mad (and rightfully so) that we havent protected the borders and have 20million illegal aliens roaring around. We all would like to protect the border. And that isnt being done.

But he fails to mention what the heck we are supposed to DO about the 20mil illegals alreay here. How does one propose to get the resources to BOOT them all out?

The damage is done, and all the whining and complaining about it doesnt solve the issue.

Either we bring the entire army home and go on a witch hunt to round them all up and boot them out.

Or we give them a form or amnesty.

If lou can tell us how he would round them all up, Im all ears.

But I wish he would stop complaing about something we cant do much about (the illegals that are already here) and start to MOVE FORWARD about making them legal so they can pay taxes.

Dobbs has been a little too full of himself these last couple of years. I'm getting tired of him.

Lee Egg Harbor NJ   January 16th, 2008 6:03 pm ET

mike kaplan   January 16th, 2008 6:04 pm ET

Is this a joke?

James   January 16th, 2008 6:05 pm ET

Lou Dobbs has taken his viewers to heart and is entertaining running for president. He has railed how all the candidates are just speaking pablum for the masses. But there is one person who Mr. Dobbs knows isn't just saying what voters want to hear but Mr. Dobbs never mention this. Ron Paul has answers to hard questions. You may not like the answers but he says them. He is backed by a voting record clean of the graft common in the house of prostitution known as Washington DC. He cannot be bought. I have listened to Mr. Dobbs repeatedly rail on how all the candidates are the same. Lou, this just isn't so. We have the neocons, Romney, McCain, Huckabee, and Thompson. Liberals turned conservative. then we have the true conservative, Ron Paul. Mr. Dobbs, you have had many opportunities to make mention of this difference, but have done what all the media have done and that is to ignore an honorable man who lives by his integrity. Just this slight alone in my humble estimation would eliminate you for consideration for president. You have already been bought and payed for by not pointing out Ron Paul as singular in voting record and ethics.

Eric, Chicago,IL   January 16th, 2008 6:07 pm ET

Lou Dobbs is a media tool.

He is always quick to complain about the problems in this country, but never one to offer up solutions.

He also inevitably will join any bandwagon so long as it is a bandwagon rolling against the democratic or republican parties.

PRG Fishers, IN   January 16th, 2008 6:11 pm ET

Lou,

It is amazing to me that you can twist records so much so that people are blinded by hate. I don't know one Presidential candidate that has endorsed amnesty. Yet, you continue to post viewpoints of extremist as if they are mainstream to feed you own ego. Perhaps the reason why you list those Republican candidates is because know they will give a Democrat the biggest challenge. It's no secret that CNN favors Democratic views and while you claim independence, your record on views is more Democratic. While I agree with you on some of your views, it is disappointing that you would post something like this!

Dan   January 16th, 2008 6:11 pm ET

CNN should be ashamed.

The "most trusted name in news" has a well-known anchor with a considerable axe to grind, who's using his show to sell his book, and potentially launch a political career.

He may have a legitimate point, but if he wants to make it this way, he should get out of the news business. America should demand better, and CNN should too, to avoid earning the same label as that "fake" news station.

rick   January 16th, 2008 6:14 pm ET

who cares..americans are too stupid to agree on an intelligent president.

Jacik form WV   January 16th, 2008 6:18 pm ET

Lou Dobbs yes! He has the education and he knows the difference between right and wrong something our politicians have forgotten or never knew. He has no special interest groups to give back positions in the government. I would be willing to bet that all of those who are running for President are hoping he will not run. He has been very vocal about over spending, illegals, open borders, and lets not forget those border patrol agents still in prison while drug dealears are getting pardoned. None of the candidates running so far have mentioned in detail at all their position on any of this wonder why that is. Lou Dobbs has nothing to gain but "we the people" have much to gain with Lou Dobbs. None of those running for President excite me, Lou Dobbs , now that's excieting, finally a choice that I can vote for and live with rather than the old picking the lesser of two evils!!!! Go Lou Dobbs

Laurinda   January 16th, 2008 6:19 pm ET

I would like to make a comment if I may. If Lou Dobbs decided to run he would certainly get my vote. As far as Lou getting angry that does not bother me in the least. There are alot of angry Americans and we have reasons to be after eight years of having a moron as president. Also there is no reason why people can't get angry, are we suppose to walk around with a smile on our faces when this country is falling apart. Bush always has a smile on his face because he has no idea what he is doing. I personally would like to twist his lips 180 degrees right into a frown.

Matt   January 16th, 2008 6:22 pm ET

Dobbs has it very easy criticizing every candidate from the safety of his show. He's a populist and pretends to speak for the people. He acts like the typical politicians he claims to despise so much.

I also like how he will never talk to anyone who disagrees with him and all the emails to the show seem to honor his greatness. Dobbs, Cafferty, Beck- all are on CNN for one reason- ratings. These people have no business being on a news station as they do not report, they complain about America and try to make stupid jokes in the vein of John Stewart.

It's now official. CNN has lowered itself to the level of FOX News and Bill O'Reilly. This is not news, only the shameless promotion of Dobbs. I'm tired of seeing his egocentric diatribes listed alongside actual news stories on cnn.com. Now he's invaded the "ticker" as well. That's it for me — I'm moving to google news.

Sean McM   January 16th, 2008 6:36 pm ET

Terrific news…..shall visit the web site, and if he elects to run I will certainly contribute! Truth is, we cannot afford INCOMPETENCE and or INEXPERIENCE in the Presidency.

Grace, Overland Park, Kansas   January 16th, 2008 6:36 pm ET

"Dobbs has been a little too full of himself these last couple of years. I'm getting tired of him"

"His considerable ego just got bigger."

amen to that. he's a pompous windbag who is so repetitive. how egotistical of him to think that he can go from being a talking head to the President without having one iota of political experience. granted, experience isn't that important for being the President but still, he won't be able to raise any money if donors have no idea about whether or not he is electable since he has never ran for nor won public office. I don't think people want to throw money down a worthless cause. and do we really want a xenophobic man for President? he'll isolate America from the rest of the world in no time.

and stop plugging your book lou. please, you are becoming annoying. your drivel is hardly based on fact. you know what? go ahead and run for President. maybe that way i won't have to see your plastic surgery enhanced face babbling on and on. oh yeah, and take that blathering loser glenn beck with you too. maybe the both of you can run together. that would be fun.

rick smith   January 16th, 2008 6:43 pm ET

I've just voted in the past, but if LOU runs, I will give money, make phone calls, go door to door, stand out on the street with a sign, what ever it takes, to help LOU DOBBS be the next president of the United States, it would only take him a year, to fix this mess we are in, then it would be 7 years, to make this country, what our four fathers only dreamed, what it could be, after 8 years we make him KING,

howard   January 16th, 2008 6:52 pm ET

Americans are kind of stupid when it comes to keeping track of what is going on in DC, and DC knows it. That is how certain agendas are taken care of. Just like the amnesty this summer, everyone thought it was for the illegals, wrong. It was design to get DC off the hook of non-enforcement and to legitimize a illegal workforce. The politicians tried to bring it up before but it didn't seem to popular. That is why a few chosen people got together behind close doors to solve the issue, imagine if they discussed it out in public. You can still see some of the amnesty beast in the new bill although it is disguised somewhat. The new SAVE act pushes border security and ID verification but leaves emplyers up to four years to verify employees. So who is this bill really taking care of? Businesses emplying illegals. And we thought it was for us.

Judy   January 16th, 2008 6:55 pm ET

People think Lou Dobbs is a leader? Say it ain't so. I liked Lou Dobbs back in the day when he was a financial reporter. Now, he has lost his mind! Why does anyone give a rat's haunches what this reporter thinks. He needs to stick to reporting the news. . .not making the news.

Citizen For Better America   January 16th, 2008 6:56 pm ET

Lou for president?

What a joke.

Lou is full of it. An anti globalization person with a bag full of ego. He probably does not even know that the tie he is wearing probably comes from some other part of the world.

If he get elected we will see global trade in shambles with extreme tariffs among countries that would drive us to pre Bretton Woods.

GOOD LUCK

Darth Vadik, CA   January 16th, 2008 6:56 pm ET

Anonymous   January 16th, 2008 6:58 pm ET

PRG Fishers, IN wrote…

——————————————————————————————-

You've got to be kidding right?

All three democratic candidates supported the amnesty legislation that was defeated in June. McCain had a big part in writing and pushing the legislation. Huckabee wanted to grant illegal aliens in state tuition, something I, a lifelong U.S. citizen wouldn't be eligible for. Guiliani ran the largest sanctuary city in the nation.

The democratic candidates still favor amnesty. Huckabee and Guiliani are pretending to tough on illegal immigration for campaign reasons only. McCain is still stuck on amnesty but refuses to call it amnesty. Anything that doesn't require illegal aliens to leave and get in the back of the line is amnesty, plain and simple.

The best candidate on illegal immigration, Tom Tancredo, is out of the race but endorses Romney who has a record of actually doing something about it. Thompson seems committed to fighting illegal immigration as well. The others, with the exception of Paul, in my opinion, are just jumping on the bandwagon to get elected. Once elected it will be business as usual on this issue.

As evidenced by the largest grassroots movement in recent history defeating the establishment (congress, lobbyist and big business in their quest for the amnesty legislation), Lou's views are not extremist and are in fact truly mainstream. But not in the MSM sense of the word.

stan pitts pa   January 16th, 2008 6:58 pm ET

i love lou dobbs show, i have got the utmost respect for him as he is very clear on issues and has most Americans on his side. my only issue with him is that he comes across as a little, anti-obama! i dont want him to be for any candidate but please continue to remain fair and balanced!

Joe   January 16th, 2008 7:07 pm ET

Lou Dobbs is the biggest Jack Ass I have ever met!!! If you disagree with him you are wrong or stupid. I've seen this first hand and behind the scenes of his tv show. I doubt this will get posted, but he has no ideas of his own to solve anything but rants about whats wrong with america. Thats why he wont run, because people would rant about the way he "ran" america. he's a jerk!!! I hope you read this Lou Dobbs!! follow my lead america, draft Brad Pitt for president!!! What a joke!

Bart   January 16th, 2008 7:07 pm ET

More than anyone in America, Lou gets it when it comes to understanding the forces that are threatening to ruin the American middle class. When the middle class goes, there goes the country. He understands about unfair global labor competition, dirty dealing by corporations, opportunistic illegal aliens elbowing the American working poor out of jobs, the whole 9 yards.

Duncan, Richmond, VA   January 16th, 2008 7:10 pm ET

I read an article today from him that he complained that none of the candidates are committing to bringing the troops home and they are just throwing earlier dates to get votes.. Does he not know that Ron Paul is also running and intends to bring the troops home from day 1? I don't want someone like Lou running who is so ignorant.

Ed,Ellenville,New York   January 16th, 2008 7:11 pm ET

Dobb's should jump in and immediately quit CNN where his foolishness is ruining CNN's good name. He's way too senile to report objectively anymore. If he wants to captain his ship of fools, then by all means let him go.

Ulf Janson   January 16th, 2008 7:12 pm ET

If Lou Dobbs by any chance would become president of this great country, I will, at my advanced age of 73, immediately emigrate back to my country of origin Sweden and apply for restitution of my Swedish citizenship.
Enough is enough!!!!!
P.S. Is Lou an original American Indian???????

Jim   January 16th, 2008 7:13 pm ET

Lou Dobbs is a legend in his own mind. He never has any constructive ideas, always is distorting anyone trying to solve problems to sell his book and it has seemed for the pasy 2 years launch some sort of political campaign. I have to change the channel whenever his hate filled show is on. I had to wait for his drivel to get over so I could see the MI results, bbecause I refuse to watch him.
CNN is losing their "most trusted name in news" reputation by allowing Dobbs to use their airwaves in promoting his book and his own hate filled idealogy.
I think CNN should remove Dobbs from the air, then Dobbs could see how few people really follow his idas by running for office.

john   January 16th, 2008 7:15 pm ET

Dobbs!!! you have got to be kidding. This guy is as much of a whack job as Hillary , Edwards and Kucinich. Almost as crazy as Huckabee as well.!!!

Brian   January 16th, 2008 7:16 pm ET

What does Lou have against Ron Paul's positions? They seem to be inline with a lot of Lou's opinions on matters of the economy, the border, foriegn policy, etc. I wish he would get all of his viewers to support Ron if he doesn't run himself. Thanks Lou!

Karen   January 16th, 2008 7:20 pm ET

I like Lou. The fact that someone yells out a Clinton campaign "Do you have to be a US citizen to caucus?" In other words do you need to be a citizen to vote… Good Grief. You actually watch his show and have no idea how he would solve an issue. An economist with no concept or understanding of economic issues? I don't have an issue with numbers, but then I have a degree in Finance.

Some of the ideas expressed on the show to encourage attrition would be to eliminate the incentives. Secure the border (also a security issue), enforce the law that it is illegal to employ an illegal, apply penalties to employers who do break the law, no benefits, increase penalties for identity theft, when arrested-hold illegals until deported, could even end the anchor baby manipulation of the law. Stop forcing me to subsidize cheap labor and pad the profits of the corps.

I'm sick of social welfare and corporate welfare. I think Lou and his guests have had some legitimate solutions. But then I don't drink from the liberal kool-aid cup.

Bella   January 16th, 2008 7:26 pm ET

Lou, instead of running of president why don't you just write a book and tell us all how to live and think. Seeing as how you know everything and all.

C.Lo   January 16th, 2008 7:28 pm ET

Lou you complain too much - I'd like to hear you talk about the positive accomplishments. Also, corect me if I am wrong but I am sensing you have something against Obama and I just do not know why

s.positive   January 16th, 2008 7:29 pm ET

Where is my post CNN?

John   January 16th, 2008 7:30 pm ET

I hope Dobbs runs and gets humiliated. That won't shut his mouth, but hopefully it will deflate his gargantuan egocentrism. This guy has totally lost his mind; he thinks the country revolves around him and his pipe dream issue of illegal immigration. If he believes that so much, he should go for it. By all means Mr. Dobbs, please give us something to laugh at.

JK Ashburn, VA   January 16th, 2008 7:33 pm ET

Pompous ass. The only good news is that if he's a real candidate, he has to come off CNN.

frank   January 16th, 2008 7:37 pm ET

Lou Dobbs, you are a great reporter, stick with it. Michael Bloomberg? Give me a break!

Why dont you guys ever talk about Ron Paul???

He will probably not get the republican nomination because he doesnt get media coverage and it seems to be a popularity contest, not a contest based on principles.

He is against pro amnesty, against the war, against the federal reserve, against the IRS, against the real id, against the patriot act, and against the no child left behind act, which you were talking about the other day!!

Open you eyes Lou. Your candidate is right in front of you!!!!!

Richie   January 16th, 2008 7:37 pm ET

I love it when CNN promotes any activity regarding one of their analysts, correspondents, or anchors as if it is news rather than self-promotion. Although, this is the same news site that can't decide if it is a tabloid or a respectable institution. - I vote tabloid.

Minor celebrities have egos too.   January 16th, 2008 7:41 pm ET

I feel a little sorry for him; in the video clip, he really seems to take this all very seriously. Hopefully he'll read these comments and see that the majority of people think this is a huge joke.

Sandy, St. Paul, MN   January 16th, 2008 7:43 pm ET

We have a 'Lou Dobbs for President' sign in our front window. We'd vote for him in a second, but unfortunately, he's way to smart to dive into the cesspool of liars and corrupt cretins that dwell in DC.

Aaron Smithsburg, Maryland   January 16th, 2008 7:43 pm ET

If their is anybody out there that thinks that illegal immigration is what is causing America's woes your completely a warped excuse for a human being. It's the oldest story in the book: The patricians get the finest things wealth can offer because their special and elite, the rest of us slaves get table scraps. Now when their are enough rest of us' out their begging for scraps, we are stronger than the scrap tossers. So what the scrap tossers like to do is cause infighting amongst us so we can lose focus on them. Religion, race, sexuality, commerce, politics are all the same; scaring you into thinking that we need to fight for scraps in the first place. All these super influential families need to be knocked down a peg or two, and I mean all over the world not just here in America, and I think you'll see world peace and prosperity. Until the sheeple wake up from their slumped biases and blind altruism, we as a species can expect more of the same things that we've seen throughout history. Snake-charmers and wise-men will keep rehashing the same dubious plots to keep us entertained but not too happy, efficient but not too healthy, enlightened but not too the truth of our own self worth. Stop hating, we are each others best hope.
P.S If a mexican immigrant that has a fifth grade education, that can't speak english has taken your job, your probably an idiot. Quit crying and become useful.

Paul C, Palmetto Bay, FL   January 16th, 2008 7:45 pm ET

I don't see the person Lou is talking about but I know that Lou would be a better president than anyone running.
I am convinced that we would be better off if we selected our leaders by lottery. Pure chance would be better than the political hacks we have running.

I see no reason to "lose it" and/or get totally upset about this. Lou Dobbs is just not someone who should be President. Nor should he be doing the news on CNN. When I began watching CNN 17 years ago (1st Iraq War), it was AMAZING. Just the best. For all these years, I have been a CNN-aholic. I cannot start or end my day without CNN. Recently? It's gotten out of hand. It's not news anymore. It's a crock of stuff. Last night all Wolf Blitzer did was politics (Michigan), while on CNN Headline News we had Erica Hill following the live news conference with the Marines at Camp LeJeune with concern for Lauterbach, etc. A LIVE news conference, and we were subjected to the same old, same old with Wolf. There IS other news in the world besides the presidential race. And, I am a news/political junkie….it was too much. Lou Dobbs? He constantly complains, whines, gets this god-awful ugly look on his face and goes off on tangents. I feel SO sorry for the news people that have to chat it up with him across the desk - he uses them blatantly - they barely finish their reports before he is attacking - interrupts continually any guest who is on the program, rarely, if ever listens to anyone's answers after he asks a question, and THE BEST ONE: it takes him 10 minutes to get to the point and ask the question because he's throwing his own opinion into the first half of the question…Donna Brazille looked like she was falling asleep last night, waiting for the darn question.

Please, make Kitty Pilgrim the host. She asks intelligent questions, and waits and listens for the answers (surprise, surprise) - then responds to their answers.

Andy in ATL   January 16th, 2008 8:07 pm ET

I hate CNN with a passion but watch Dobbs and/or Beck nightly.

That said, I'd vote for a Dobbs/Beck (I just nominated Beck as VP myself) ticket but the problem is if he enters as an independent he'll screw the election up and let Hillary and Bill in just like Perot did in 1992.

Matt   January 16th, 2008 8:10 pm ET

I say go for it. This is the best year for just about anybody who meets the requirements to be president to run. So long as you are over 40 and were born in the United States then Run for president. You are automatically as experienced as half the field running right now. And probably would do a better job then half of them anyway if elected.

It will be exactly what we all were told growing up that one day you too may be the president.

Right now I would take an average citizen over career politicians.

aj huntington ny   January 16th, 2008 8:15 pm ET

isn't he a bit old to run? must be in upper 60s

Leah DiMarco, TX   January 16th, 2008 8:16 pm ET

Lou Dobbs and Bill O'reily should report the news and not try to 'become' the news. Someone that has a daily TVshow and has access to daily free TV time to spout off about their opinions shouldn't be allowed to run for any office.

A Boomer for Obama   January 16th, 2008 8:22 pm ET

Lou Dobbs has become an arrogant man who doesn't listen to his guests but talks over them in a demeaning fashion. His show has beconme a slanted, bombastic series of subjective editorials and like Eric wrote earlier has a liany of complaints with few realistic solutions.

This "draft" will make him even more insufferable…in fact I have turned his election coverage off.

REvans   January 16th, 2008 8:22 pm ET

Save us Jesus save us from the likes of Hollywood Lou. If Dobbs tries to parley his show into a campaign just as Pat Buchanan did and he too will suffer a fate like Idiot Buchanan. If ol' Lou Boy decides to run he will suddenly find out that viewers and votes are two different things. Like all news personalities (journalism being a missing commodity on Lou's show and 85% of the rest of CNN as well as 99.9% at Fox) Lou thinks his diatribes are thought provoking, but when critics think about his nonsense and labels it as such he lashes out at them as being elitists. His rants against the Los Angeles Time's media critic is a case in point.

He harps, complains, attacks, but at the end of it all, Lou is a dilettante.

Steve, Texas   January 16th, 2008 8:25 pm ET

A Dobbs-O'Reilly ticket is just what America needs - that way, all we will see on TV are their 2 heads - both too big to fit on a single screen. I will need to buy another TV. Or better, just watch something else.

MS Johnson City, TN   January 16th, 2008 8:30 pm ET

Running for the President of the United States is not a joke. They know very well that it is much easier to sit in a chair, look in the camera and complain.

Raising money for election and convincing voters to vote for them is entirely a different ballgame. A game they don't play because they don't know how to. That is the reason no TV journalist has ever become a successful politician. Lou Dobbs is no exception.

Evan Tribley Columbus, OH   January 16th, 2008 8:30 pm ET

Lou Dobbs is almost as narrow minded as Bill O'Reilly. Maybe Bill can be his VP.

Lee - Houston, Tx.   January 16th, 2008 8:35 pm ET

But "Leah DMarco", is there a law against a tv reporter or news anchor running for office? Should there be a law?If so, what other people would you prohibit from entering political races? Priests? Movie stars? Illegal aliens? Newspaper columnists? Can they run for office?

Jeff Spangler, Arlington, VA   January 16th, 2008 8:37 pm ET

I agree with Lou on shipping all illegals back to the third-world hellholes they came from, but to hear him blather on about it every night, you'd think there were no other issues in the news. He is a blowhard who has been given an "anchor" platform by CNN to bore us to death, and cannot be taken seriously as a journalist.

ben carling   January 16th, 2008 8:38 pm ET

If you remove the names of the candidates that the anti-imigration group doesn't like from the front runners, that only leaves Mitt Romney. However Mitt Romney wasn't mentioned in the article. If people want a president that will be fair but tough on illegal imigration, they should vote for Romney. He's already running, he's got experience beyond the other candidates, and he apparently doesn't wear as much tv makeup as Lou Dobbs.

Anthony   January 16th, 2008 8:39 pm ET

Gag me. If we want a xenophobic who majored in economics in the 1960s (it's true… read his bio; it explains his complete misunderstanding of free trade) running our country - Lou is our man! Just be prepared to pay at least five times what we pay now for food and basic services!

John   January 16th, 2008 8:41 pm ET

If a B movie actor with Altzheimers can make it to the Whitehouse so can a popular common sense News anchor man run Lou run.

william   January 16th, 2008 8:45 pm ET

Well, Tom. Yes, round them all up and boot them if they are illegal. The money men with their signs in Spanish and their pandering to foreigners with cash money to spend is the only enemy you would probably have. and that includes employers looking for no-cost labor. Illegal alien money talks, too. They don't care who you are, just give them the money. I told a merchant the other day that the sign in the window in Spanish didn't get my money. I couldn't read it and don't expect to make anything but English my native language at any time.
If Lou Dobbs just reports the news, then we've lost another person who tells it like it is. What's wrong with someone telling it like it is instead of playing the "puppet" card. A Republican might get "beaten in the election by an independent with a stand?"Lou Dobbs for President

Mike   January 16th, 2008 8:47 pm ET

Dobbs would not have a chance (no money for a Third Party run) and he already has a format to voice his opinion. Why run? This will probably lead to more books from Dobbs and Cafferty…and for us to have to tolerate Blitzer shamelessly promoting them (as well as his own show). Come on guys, you need to stop leverging your 'unbiased' CNN programs to self promote. Otherwise, your viewers will start to tune out.

Daniel   January 16th, 2008 8:51 pm ET

I think Lou Dobbs running for president would be a very bad move for our country. I think someone running solely on the issue of immigration would have problems in an actual campaign. Does anyone remember Tancredo?

David, CA   January 16th, 2008 8:52 pm ET

Shameless. We've got the "These candidates don't cut it" editorial by Dobbs on the front page, the "Do you think any of the candidates are qualified for the job of president?" poll also on the front page, and then conveniently a "Draft Dobbs group emerges" headline on the Ticker. The only people interested in "drafting Dobbs" are Lou himself and his CNN associates. Of course Lou is probably the only one delusional enough to think he's a viable candidate; CNN is just hoping to drive some traffic to their site by pulling in some naive bloggers to report on the "story."

Say NO to Lou Dobbs   January 16th, 2008 8:55 pm ET

Did you say Lou Dobbs running for President? The last thing we want in the white house is arrogant journalist

Madtown John   January 16th, 2008 8:56 pm ET

This "article" reads like an article from "The Onion," especially Mr. Gheen's comments about Lou Dobb's being able to raise funds and grassroots support quickly. This is satire right?

Ann   January 16th, 2008 9:01 pm ET

Years ago I enjoyed listening to Lou Dobbs. Of late however, he has become a consumate narcissist. His love of self is so blatent one feels they have witnessed an orgy after watching his nightly show.

john williams san diego, ca.   January 16th, 2008 9:02 pm ET

under a democrat president, dobbs should be named homeland security chief to stop the mexican invasion ..McCain will never do it.

David   January 16th, 2008 9:06 pm ET

I for one wont be voting for this angry, arrogant, snobby blowhard. Shame on you CNN!

steve wilmington   January 16th, 2008 9:09 pm ET

Lou,
You should run…not sure what all of the above negative posters are thinking about. You have correctly pointed out the key issues over the last decade. There are many supporters of your views. I am unclear as to why someone would want arrogant politicians instead of someone who has been listening to the public sentiment more closely. If you do run, remember to stick to your guns. Do not hold back.

Steve, Chappaqua, N.Y.   January 16th, 2008 9:13 pm ET

I think Lou should go home tonight and have a scotch, a pork chop, and a cigar, and give this some serious thought.

Boca   January 16th, 2008 9:14 pm ET

lou dobbs for president? ahahahhahahahha. no way. this guy is the worst personality on cnn. Wolff Blitzer 08 is more like it.

Anita   January 16th, 2008 9:23 pm ET

I think Lou would make a great President. He makes more sense in one sentence than all these other candidates' campaign speeches put together. Lou is smart and he's aware of what it would take to get this country back in shape. I guess all the negative responders here don't want somebody who actually sticks up for the American people, and somebody who would straighten this economy out.. So, go ahead, vote for one of those empty promises people and that way you can enjoy complaining about the state of this country for another four years.

S Williams   January 16th, 2008 9:28 pm ET

I used to watch his show, then realized he's a one-trick pony.

Illegal aliens
Illegal aliens
Illegal aliens
Illegal aliens
Illegal aliens

oh, and then a noun and a verb.

His schtick as being a proponent of the middle-class is tainted by his constantly calling everyone else idiots and morons.

He's CNN's version of Bill O'Reilly.

Gerrit   January 16th, 2008 9:36 pm ET

Lou Dobbs for President? Have you watched this guy lately. He sometimes gets so angry I fear he will have a stroke or heart attack. Can you see him in charge of the US nuclear arsenal?
I have stopped watching him as he blasts everyone and never gives a solution to the many (and sometimes imaginary) problems he expounds.
He is also an egotistical, conceited man - posturing today that not one candidate on the GOP or Dem side is fit to be President and goes on to describe the savior that will enter the race when al seems lost:
"I can't imagine any one of the current candidates for their party's nomination being chosen by the American people to lead this nation for the next four years," Dobbs wrote in his column. "I believe the person elected a year from now will be an Independent populist, a man or woman who understands the genius of this country lies in the hearts and minds of its people and not in the prerogatives and power of its elites.""I believe next November's surprise will be the election of a man or woman of great character, vision and accomplishment, a candidate who has not yet entered the race," he wrote. - Nice try Lou, but most Americans do not see these qualities in you.

Mrs. America   January 16th, 2008 9:40 pm ET

Lou Dobbs would still be an obscure newsman if it weren't for illegal immigrants. He's living high because of them and should be thanking them rather than flapping his lips ad nauseum about the same thing.

At least his show doesn't interrupt the Situation Room anymore now that it's gone to three straight hours. Saves me from turning the tube off when Dobbs shows up and back on again to see the last hour of the Sit Room.

ALW   January 16th, 2008 9:52 pm ET

Lou Dobbs is CNN's Bill O' Riley. His reporting is just about as fair and balanced as O' Riley's and with about the same regard for the truth. There is no need for Lou to get into the race, if I wanted a candidate that only talked about illegal immigration I would be rooting for Hunter. I will give Lou one thing, when he can shut up about illegal immigration for thirty seconds and talks about public education he sounds almost half as smart as the rest of the people working for CNN.

Sean CA   January 16th, 2008 9:53 pm ET

Dobbs and Beck are the reason CNN no longer has any credibility, and on top of that the shows that do have some small amount of credibility, CNN now tries to push Dobbs and Beck into the conversation as if they are the subject expert on everything and anything. Ever since Turner sold CNN it's been down hill, and even Turner has says so.

Raquel   January 16th, 2008 9:58 pm ET

Nothing like a lame personal attack to make your point valid.

Lou Dobbs is a very intelligent man, that has a very impressive bio. He has spearheaded and founded many productive projects, and is owner of many successful business ventures. He has a very broad base of knowledge to bring to a the table, if he were a presidential candidate.

For the less informed, you should read his bio. Lou is not the talking head on the idiot box on a reality TV show. Some consider that quality television and worth wasting their time on. Instead, Mr. Dobbs is a man of substance with the background, intellect and reputation that would carry him into the White House.

GP   January 16th, 2008 9:58 pm ET

Just straight talk and clear views. Lou Dobbs is for America. He is about protecting American jobs and the American wage. Lou wants to stop the flood of jobs leaving America and to stop the unfair trade deals that corporate America continues to push in Washington. We are selling America to the highest bidders.

Lou wants to stop the flood of illegal aliens coming to America to obtain FREE services and benefits at the expense of the American taxpayers. He wants to see our borders and ports secured, to know who is coming to America and why they are coming.

Lou Dobbs is for a strong public education system to increase graduation rates and to give the poor and middle class a secure future.

Lou Dobbs tells it straight . Support Lou Dobbs.

Ryan, Baghdad   January 16th, 2008 10:14 pm ET

The first step at solving the problems of America is to recognize them and discuss them. Lou Dobbs is one of the few independent thinkers in the mainstream media who does this. I would also put Jack Cafferty, Keith Olbermann, and Glenn Beck into this category. I don't believe any of them should run for President, however. I believe they should publicly endorse RON PAUL for President in 2008! Independent thinkers of America: HE IS your candidate. Give him your full support and help restore the Republic.

David Allen Linkenheimer, East Brady, Pa.   January 16th, 2008 10:19 pm ET

I wonder where Lou stands on the Money Issue?

Is he status quo (keep quiet about the worthless federal reserve notes) or is he pro constitution and honest money?

We do not want to draft a person who will ignore the constitution on the Money Issue - Coin not Notes.

A Note is never the equivelent of payment.

Johann   January 16th, 2008 10:24 pm ET

I'd be as quick to vote for Lou Dobbs as I would be to vote for Rush Limbaugh. If you want the sorts of change he blusters, about without offering any viable solutions, then Lou Dobbs is your man. If you want the sorts of issues he talks about represented by a viable presidential candidate vote for Ron Paul.

Personally, I'll vote for John McCain.

Eric in Massachusetts   January 16th, 2008 10:30 pm ET

Lou Dobbs is an egomaniac. Sorry CNN, stick to real news please. Will Anderson Cooper be next?

Dave in New Mexico   January 16th, 2008 10:34 pm ET

If Walter Cronkite wasn't drafted as a presidnetial candidate I doubt Lou Dobbs will. However, I agree with much of what he says but ,he needs to encourage the country more and more to get out the vote and have our voices heard.

Independent Voter, TN   January 16th, 2008 10:34 pm ET

I used to have a lot of respect for Lou Dobbs back when he was a financial anchor on this network. Since his return to CNN, he has become a self-annointed "personality" and has subsequently lost all credibility with serious and objective viewers. His opinions are invariably angry and of little consequence. Get over yourself, Lou. I don't care for you at all, anymore.

Bruce Behrhorst   January 16th, 2008 10:35 pm ET

I don't think Lou Dobbs can make a difference I like him exactly were he is-at CNN. He points out problems with emotion-Americans need his energy but not on the campaign trail.

The problem in the United States lies in the winner-take-all, two party system of elections which the commitment to vote of the citizen is not mandatory. And the way elections are conducted, counted and monitored in the U.S.
America is still a small 'D' democracy. Until the major problems of election and elections execution are corrected. America will not have leaders that best represent the sentiment of the voter.

Wilbur Peters   January 16th, 2008 10:36 pm ET

I would tend to favor Lou over most of the bunch we have at this time.
How he would fix the mess our country is in?
What method he would use to do it?
Where would the money come from?
These questions have not been answered by any of those running now.
We need a successful plan, with a proper finish.
Go to it Lou, it can not hurt.

Dave McGrath   January 16th, 2008 10:41 pm ET

Give me a break - Lou is a looser. His comments are pure vitriol and make my stomach churn. Of course… a churning stomach is why I go to horror flicks… But that is all Lou is - a populist horror. A vote for Lou is like a vote for Rush. Ughh to both.

Becky   January 16th, 2008 10:48 pm ET

Lou Dobbs is the biggest blowhard on CNN….he is so one dimensional…immigration….amnesty….immigration…amnesty…..I wish he would just get cancelled but I guess he is one of the bosses at CNN….When it is time that his show is on CNN gets switched off…….Thank GOD Hardball is on at that time….and that picture doesn't even look like him!!!! Oh yeah…since he had his tonsils out his voice has changed, looks like he got new teeth too…..good…he needed them!!

Daniel   January 16th, 2008 10:50 pm ET

How a serious netork could have such a person like Mr. Dobbs?
In think people deserve news an information delivered fearly and
trustworthy. Not xenophofic or false data about a problem not
created yesterday. big problems will not be solved with anger or
frustation. Leadership is required in order to listen to ALL and
Mr.Independent is not a viable one.
CNN please do something!

John S. Maine   January 16th, 2008 11:08 pm ET

This article must be spoof, right?

mike, dallas, TX   January 16th, 2008 11:08 pm ET

Lou Dobbs for president? That is insane.
Anybody running for president needs a healthy dose of ego. But Lou Dobbs' talk of running for president is a result of a disproportionate size of megalomania. Just because a bunch of immigrant hater sympatheizers send you e mails that soothe your ego does not mean your leadership is needed and you should run for the presidency. Who is next? Glenn Beck? Bill O'Reiley? Give me a break!

At the start of the Iraq war Lou Dobbs stopped becoming a business news anchor and became a cheer leader inviting retired Generals and defense secretaries on his show adding another coverage to the already nauseating 24 hr cable coverage of the war. At that time I e mailed him posing a question whether he was acting as an anchor or if he was using the program as a platform to run for office. He replied it was none of my businness and he will run the show what ever way he likes. I guess my instinct was right.

But it bothers me a great deal when news personalities use the mass media given to them to inform the public end up using it to advance their own political future and ambition. I don't think that is fair. Can you imagine one of the presidential candidates having the opportunity to build his platform for 4 years on a daily TV program for free before announcing to run while others spend millions of dollars to get a one or two minute spot to get their message through? If Lou Dobbs really cares for the middle income family and for America why doesn't he quit his job at CNN and serve as a council man, a mayor or even a lecturer in a university for few years and then run like anybody else at a level field? That will tell us if Lou dobbs cares more about middle income America or about Lou Dobbs himself.

jay   January 16th, 2008 11:12 pm ET

Oooh! Do I get to call Dobbs a right-wing "moonbat"?

Bryan, Illinois   January 16th, 2008 11:24 pm ET

No matter where you fall on immigration, all parties can agree that the current "system" is essentially broken and unimplemented by the current government. We must make progress on immigration. However, to consider a single issue candidate for the presidency is awfully myopic. There are other things going on in the world besides the US southern border.

Walt, Belton, TX   January 16th, 2008 11:27 pm ET

This is a group that believes in political correctness. This is a definition of political corretness.

"Political Correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical, liberal minority and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end."

halcyon24   January 16th, 2008 11:30 pm ET

Don't listen to the negativity Lou. I watch you consistently and agree with you about 95% of the time. The ones on here bashing either 1 - don't watch you and just think of you as a reporter (Judy) or 2 - afraid you would shake things up for their candidate.
Let's hear some serious plans and you got my vote!
Now I'm going to go find out where to sign up!

Dobbs/Anderson 08

swissdiver   January 16th, 2008 11:46 pm ET

Lou Dobbs's demonizing of immigrants is all he knows to do day in and day out. He cannot be a president of an immigrant nation. There is too much racist blood running through his vains. I'm sick and tired of him talking about his anti-llegal immigration stance a million times a day like it is the only major issue facing America. His so called "concern" for the middle class is all a pretext for his opportunistic ambitions. To me he's worst than Sean Hannity, Bill O'reilly, Anne Coulter and Michelle Malkin. He's a good-for-nothing halfwit nincompoop and no way Jose, I am going to vote for this unhooded opportunist.

Scott Alexander   January 16th, 2008 11:49 pm ET

Ahhh..Lou Dobbs for President? Who next? Mr. Pat "Electric fence for a border" Buchanan? David Dukes? You're pretty much headed down that slippery slope if you think that Dobbs is a good candidate. Then again, the group pushing for his "drafting" isn't really known to be a group that cares about treating people humanely. Please don't post stories like this CNN, its depressing enough that you even allow his hateful views on the air (and Glenn Beck's too).

ash   January 17th, 2008 12:02 am ET

NO COMMENTS. It is waste of time and energies. Nothing like this will happen.
One comment though I intend to agree. Why are we not giving much attention to Ron Paul? He has different views and economy centred from the beginning, at least he shall get equal weightage and coverage on all channels and comments so that even if he does not win primaries or nominated, his views can enlighten more among us and the candidates and force them to commit what is good for the nation.

Teacher   January 17th, 2008 12:16 am ET

First of all,he didnt say he would run and I doubt he ever would.Secondly the people in both parties are going to get exactly what they deserve, someone that will divid the country even more and sell us out to the One World Government Elites.Good luck you brainless morons.

ERNIE   January 17th, 2008 12:17 am ET

LOU DOBBS IS A RACIST.

Buzz, Idaho   January 17th, 2008 12:34 am ET

I wrote Lou a E-mail months ago and said that he was my first choice if he was to run for President. He says things like they are and stands up for our rights. Thats more than we are seeing from our bought and payed for candidates on both sides of the fence.

ERNIE   January 17th, 2008 12:37 am ET

LOU DOBBS IS A RACIST CAUSE, HE ALL FOR THE REPUBLCAN SIDE
PUTTING THE DEMOCRATS DOWN. I USE SEE HIM EVERY DAY,NO MORE.
LOU DOBBS STICK TO NEWS. HE USE TO WORK IN CITRUS COMPANY WHERE A LOT OF I LLEGALS WORK HE DID'NT TURN THEM IN. WHY?

LOU DOBBS IS NOT AN AMERICAN CITZEN . HE ALSO CAME AS A IMMIGRANT.

Jeremiah Grant, Phoenix, AZ   January 17th, 2008 1:15 am ET

Notice which candidates this group considers pro-amnesty candidates - John McAmnesty, Mike "Liberal Sanctuary State" Huckabee, and Rudy "Sanctuary City" Giuliani.

Kay   January 17th, 2008 1:54 am ET

Most people I know would vote for Lou in a heartbeat. He is smart and understands the frustrations of most citizens. Lou has a right to be arrogant–he's a lot smarted than Bush–you know, the one who is the king of arrogance.

zero   January 17th, 2008 2:32 am ET

Who he's describing as an 'independant populist' is basically Barack O.

JR   January 17th, 2008 2:40 am ET

Lou Dobbs would make a great president.

Another Steve   January 17th, 2008 2:42 am ET

I don't believe Lou has any plans to run . Others are merely trying to draft him.. He is far better doing what he does, which to my mind has never been the nightly news. He is bringing up problems that we American citizens and legal residents share that politicians aren't answering and just plain ignoring. It isn't Lou's job to come up with the answers, that's what we have elected legislators for . Well, I don't know about all you folks, but I'm thankful for someone like Lou doing this as we Americans are pretty regularly blown off by our representatives, and they ARE selling us down the river to special interests.

Mike, Milwaukee, WI   January 17th, 2008 3:16 am ET

Dobbs is too angry all the time to run for President. The angry candidate always loses. (See Howard Dean 2004 and John McCain in 2000)

J   January 17th, 2008 3:45 am ET

Lou Dobbs is a reactionary conservative whom had no following until he decided to skew facts on immigration and now all of the sudden has a cult following, cnn only hired him because news is less important than ratings, thanks to O'Reilly of course. i remember when cnn was worth watching, now the top stories are Brittany Spears and immigrant bashing, that's not news, why doesn't he report out sourcing of rea; jobs not meager ones that Americans won't do anyways? Possibly because that doesn't bring in ratings and CNN sponsors wouldn't approve last time somebody tried to single out a minority for a countries financial woes it led a to a holocaust, so possibly he should leave the blame everyone first crowd and use reflection as a real way of solving problems and stop picking on those without a voice, he's a terrible human being and as a fellow journalist it makes me sick to share his profession.

Richard   January 17th, 2008 3:58 am ET

I would vote for lou dobbs in a second

Ken-Caldwell   January 17th, 2008 5:36 am ET

AFter reading these comments, I am so happy to see that I am not the only one that thinks Dobbs is nothing but a blowhard. CNN has started to annoy me over the last year. They are seemingly out of touch with what the viewers/readers really want to pay attention to, and scew the issues.

Dobbs, as it has already been stated numerous times, uses the stage of his show to tout his rants, and doesn't post any emails that conflict with his complaints. Sometimes I watch his show for entertainment value…..just like that O'Reilly character from the other fair balanced news network.

Lou, it is true that the two party system has failed America, But your one man parade is really just a reflection of your over-inflated ego. Personally I think your an idiot.

I also love your little polls at the end of your show. What a joke! CNN should be ashamed to allow this guy to continue to infect our airways, and if his supporters understood what he was really about, that would have a different view.

It is impossible to simply deport 20 million illegals. I'm ticked that they are here, and I am ticked at the Govt. for allowing it to happen. But the situation is much more complicated that Mr. Dobbs suggests. NOt to mention immoral. To suggest that hotel maids and spinach pickers are depleting American Jobs is a very very silly notion.

I am glad that immigration is not the forefront on voters minds, because it only fuels this idiot's mission for nothingness. Lou….please go back to reporting financial reports, and earn back the respect you once had. You have now become a circus act, and I personally feel sorry for you.

Politicians won't go on your show, because your acting like an idiot. For all of the Dobbs Cult….WAKE UP!!!! AND GET A LIFE

no one   January 17th, 2008 6:02 am ET

Does he ever talk about anything other than illegals? How can anyone be twisted enough to think the only problem with this country is the illegal alian problem? Why would anyone give this media hound so much attention? I don't get Americans but I guess that it makes sense, after all isn't American Idol in it's seventh season… pathetic.

Paul   January 17th, 2008 6:02 am ET

Rightly so! Lou is saying what we wish the social critics would have been saying for a long time. Yesterday he said the admiistration is doing nothing to curb the impending recession. The government is doing nothing to end the war and the government is doing nothing about stopping illegal immigration. He's right and it's about time. The journalists should be saying what we all say at the water cooler. It's about time. And I sure hope they're listening in Washington. America is a great country and yesterday Lou said Europe is more democratic than we are…he's right! Again, it's about time the media talks sensibly and honestly to us. If he runs for President, I hope he doesn't just become a spoiler, because the political parties are some pretty heavy duty well-oiled machines and these kind of political fairy tales just don't come true. Meanwhile, I hope he'll continue to inspire and raise hopes and say those remarkable things, which are really only things that Americans from many walks of life have been saying for about eight years now.

Robert   January 17th, 2008 6:15 am ET

I would vote for the guy.. He is a far better choice than what both parties are offering. I doubt though this would ever materialize

Beckster   January 17th, 2008 6:36 am ET

Lou is an entertainer, not a leader or statesman.

There is only one conservative out there who truly has the intellect and the ideas to save the Republican party and defeat the democratic nominee. Unfortunately he has chosen to stay out of the race. His name is NEWT. He has made some bad personal decisions (i.e., cheating on his spouse) and the fact that his first name is reptillian, will keep the best candidate from running. I dare say that half of the conservatives out there would vote for Newt if his name was on the ballot even if he never ran an ad or made a speech. I personally would pay top dollar to see him in a debate with Shrillary or Osama Bin Obama. It would be a massacre.

Ken   January 17th, 2008 7:33 am ET

Narcissistic. Nothing more and nothing less. This is the best description of Lou Dobbs. Well unless you want to mention racist, bigoted, insufferable ego-maniac. He doesn't represent the middle-class—–he represents his egomania.

I used to listen to his show. But listen here advertisers…I've no longer tune in and I suspect many others are tuning out also.

Independent in IA   January 17th, 2008 7:35 am ET

Talk about sending this nation "down the tube"….interesting idea but not too practical.

In order to lead, one must have followers….in this case, the Congress of the United States, the Judiciary Branch and the American populace. Well, okay, then, he's got a lot of the last group. Not enough by a long shot, but what the hey…

Unfortunately, he has spared no members of the other two groups and is equally detested by both. Meaning, of course, that they would block every idea and proposal he could possibly come up with….assuming of course he could even come up with any. As glib and forthright as he is about the issues concerning this nation, he has YET to come up with any form of viable solution.

Until he does, even though I'm a faithful viewer, my vote will go to the individual I feel will do the most adequate job, and not someone who may have a position on an issue (which can be adequately described as "outraged by…..") but no plans or contingencies to correct the faults.

Rob   January 17th, 2008 8:27 am ET

I live in Southern California and you have to "push 1 for English" everywhere now. It is like living in Mexico! I want an angry white man to step up and turn the clock back; make it safe for white America again, and if the ignorant, politically correct, head in the sand crowd wants to run around yelling "racism" or something equally banal… then let them. Fred Thompson, or Lou Dobbs.. I want my country back!!!

Ferlens   January 17th, 2008 8:53 am ET

Lou for President? What is an idea to ponder about…
Advantages:
• He understands and vocalizes the thoughts of the average citizen
• He is not under the spells of lobbyists
Disadvantages:
• True, after 8 years of a man in the white House who has no common sense, it seems like anyone else could do a better job.
• He has no propose solutions to the issues he is raising
The country is in a very bad shade and cannot afford any more years of crisis. On a lesser note, CNN will lose the great title “The Most Trusted Name in News” for it will lower itself to a propaganda machine like Fox News.

Melissa, Dallas, TX   January 17th, 2008 9:00 am ET

""I believe the person elected a year from now will be an Independent populist, a man or woman who understands the genius of this country lies in the hearts and minds of its people and not in the prerogatives and power of its elites.""

Ron Paul?

Justin, Atlanta, GA   January 17th, 2008 9:04 am ET

Come Dobbs. No wonder you will never mention Ron Paul's name. Just get behind him and stop with the theatrics. That kind of dishonesty is not going to win you votes.

Bill   January 17th, 2008 9:07 am ET

Once the borders are closed - shut tight - I see no problem in greatly reducing the
number of illegal aliens in this country; a huge fine and long prison term for anyone who hires an illegal - be it to pick your crops, work in your factory, make your bed, or cut your grass. Withdraw free health care, food stamps, free schooling and whatever other free benefits illegals are now receiving. What incentive would there now be for an illegal alien to remian in this country?

Lou Dobb is a wonderful man and would be a great president. How refreshing it would be to have a president who cares about America's middle class and listens to Americans. Those who are attack ing him are probably either illegal aliens or those who profit from illegal immigration. Thanks for standing up for the majority of Americans Lou!!!!

"I don't know one Presidential candidate that has endorsed amnesty"

If you bothered to actually watch Lou's show - you would. For starters:

1) Hillary Clinton, along with governors of several states, said she was in favor of giving drivers licences to illegal aliens.

2) John McCain lives in Arizona, one of the states most affected by illegal immigration. Yet time and time again, he has fought any measures to secure the border.

3) Two US border patrol agents are currently in jail for doing their joband arresting a Mexican drug smuggler. The smuggler pulled a gun on them, and they were forced to use theirs. The US border patrol agents were fully prosecuted for doing ther job, and the drug smuggler was given amnesty to testify against them. That was about a year ago, and those guys are still in jail. Several Senators have petitioned Bush for a pardon, and he has refused to hear it.

Big business wants that border open so they can continue to get cheap labor, and your lawmakers and candidates are doing everything intheir power to make it and keep it that way.

I watch Lou from time to time, what bothers me the most about him is that he in closed minded toward anyone's views that differ from his, expecially on immigration. I feel strongly that people should not be in our country illegal but our government has allowed 12-20 million into this country illegally and I do not see how the US can send them back in a humane manner. I agree with closing off the border to stop the illegal's from entering but there needs to be a solution on what to do with the illegals that are here. The other problem that I have with Lou is that CNN pays him about 6 million a year & he lives on a 300 acre spread in NJ & he says that he speaks for the average american (us) how many of his viewers make that kind of money & live on 300 acres.

John   January 17th, 2008 9:31 am ET

I have watched CNN since the early days of The Capitol Gang. I watched Lou Dobbs regularly until his hours changed. I think Lou Dobbs should follow The Capitol Gang into history (and take Wolf with him.)
I read Lou's comments on the CNN web page yesterday and I can assure you when he repeatedly used all of us he was not speaking for me. Of course I am not "middle class" but an elite member of the lower income working class.
I like the views of David Grange and William Cohen when they are Lou's guests. I would take Lou's position on illegal immigration over McCain's but I would never vote for Lou Dobbs for president or vice president.

Lou Dobbs is a fraud…please do some research on this phony before you jump on his bandwagon……Not to mention he is a close-minded loser…..

Hey Bill, just because a segment of the population doesn't vote the same way you do doesn't mean they are stupid. Just so you know, I'm a northern liberal

Wolff Blitzer 08   January 17th, 2008 10:03 am ET

I will vote for Wolff Blitzer any day any time over all the Dem and Republican candidates. I love you Wolff. :)

Think maybe Lou has too high an opinion of himself, kind of like Hillary, etc..

Julie-Albuquerque   January 17th, 2008 10:26 am ET

Oh Lord, please don't let this man run for any political office - I love CNN, but have always switched the channel when his program comes on. He is biased, judgemental, and unflexible. Traits we certainly don't need for a President of this country.

John G, New York, NY   January 17th, 2008 10:30 am ET

Give me a break.

Lou Dobbs is an incurable narcissist who makes a living at inflaming non-issues for the purpose of pandering to his own self-importance.

When will CNN realize that this guy has no intention of reporting the news but, rather, is hell bent on BEING the news? He does no service to the reputation of CNN.

Nick, Texas   January 17th, 2008 10:32 am ET

Go ahead and run Lou. We need another fringe media darling candidate now that it's clear that Thompson and Paul are going nowhere in the polls.

Tolu, Minneapolis, MN   January 17th, 2008 10:41 am ET

Puhlease!!! Lou Dobbs is a populist idiot. Talk is cheap; getting stuff done is not. Don't wait our time with this lunatic who only cares about ratings.

I used to be a huge Dobbs fan, when he used to host Moneyline. Now, he's a crazy Xenophobe who thinks we are in the Guilded Age.

mike, dallas, TX   January 17th, 2008 10:48 am ET

That will tell us if Lou dobbs cares more about middle income America or about Lou Dobbs himself

Sensible Cape Coral Fl   January 17th, 2008 10:48 am ET

The acid test of genuine criticism is the ability to offer solutions. Sorry Lou. You are so full of yourself that you have no time for common snese.

George, Billerica, Mass.   January 17th, 2008 11:00 am ET

I understand Mr. Dobbs frustration with Washington on the issues he cares about. But all this nonsense about independent runs for President will accomplish nothing. The electoral process is fixed for the two major parties. I wish Mr. Dobbs would use his pulpit to go after this corrupt process with as much fervor as he did with illegal immigration. Let's talk about the restrictive ballot access rules, corporate influence, the idea that campaign money has been ruled to be free speech, that campaign funds can be used for other purposes, Congressional district gerrymandering, a plurality voting system that discourages having more than two candidates and encourages negative campaigning, allowing election without a majority, and especially this State by State winner-take-all Presidential election system. The bedrock democratic principle of elections by the people and by a majority are ignored in our system. Note how none of the candidates (one exception: Mike Gravel) ever talk about electoral reform, even after the 2000 debacle. Gee, wonder why that is…?

John, OH   January 17th, 2008 11:16 am ET

We all know he is against illegal immigration and few things he says make sense but this group is named Americans for Legal Immigration. Now correct me if I’m wrong but from his show I have not heard him supporting legal immigration either. He is against “immigration”, be it legal or illegal. He is against increasing visa number based on employment, against increasing temporary working visa numbers and that is legal immigration.

I am a lifelong Republican and I tell you that I will vote for Lou Dobbs (should he decide to run) no matter who the GOP nominee may be.

I love the thought of a Dobbs/Beck ticket!!!! I have recently started watching him and he seems to be standing up for the middle class (speaking out on the craziness coming out of Washigton with both parties) Why doesn't the media focus on that. Washington cronies are as crazy as Britney Spears-nothing makes sense.

One key point that Lou Dobbs doesn't get: Much of Central and South America poss the economic conditions that throughout history have produced violent cultures of opposition against the regional power. In this case, the regional power would be the US. This could be very dangerous. Chavez tries to stir up serious opposition against us -he even goes as far as establishing a close relationship with Iran so that he can advance anti-Americanism to increase his power- but his foolishness doesn't take root in Latin America. Why? Because good hard working people from Latin America come here, discover that Americans are not Satan, and send their hard earned money back home to their loving families. The result: they don't hate us or want to kill us. These remitences preserve peace and help build nice futures and market places in coutries that would otherwise be struggling much worse. Everyone wins. It's very effiecient. Such exchanges provide security for us and much needed foreign aid for them. I love immigrants, even illegal ones. I'd rather struggle with my terrible Spanish and patiently enjoy their terrible English than listen to that bore Dobbs. It makes me proud to help illegals in any way I can. They're some of the best Americans I've ever met.

Lou Dobbs needs to stay right where he is, on the air. He has done much good for the conservative values this country needs to get back to, AGAIN. Lou, Glenn Beck, Michael Savage and many more Independents and Conservatives need to pound American values on the air DAILY. God bless them and this great country.

Suzanne Malveaux will make a great vice president I hope Obama will pick her as his running mate.

Draft Lou Dobbs?

That's a FANTASTIC idea! Should have been done back in 2003! That is "right" on so many levels! It just …

Oh …

For President?!?"

I thought you meant for Iraq.

Never mind. ;-)

Lou Dobbs must control what gets on the ticker at CNN. Can't stand any other opinion but your own?

My earlier post disappeared almost before it showed up. We can only hope that any thoughts Lou Dobbs has of becomng President disappears as fast.

What an egomaniac he his.
