LAS VEGAS, Nevada (CNN) – Hillary Clinton received an endorsement from the Las Vegas Sun on Friday, cutting short a sweep of Nevada’s major newspaper endorsements by Barack Obama.

The Sun's editorial praised Clinton for being strong on issues important to Nevadans, such as the Yucca Mountain nuclear waste depository and the economy. It sounded a nostalgic note, saying, “We need someone in the White House who can get our economy back to the way it was when Hillary’s husband, Bill, was president.”

Last year, the paper disclosed to readers that president and editor Brian Greenspun held a fundraiser for Hillary Clinton and is "a close friend of President Bill Clinton, the senator's husband." This week the longtime Democratic donor, who has also given to other candidates, wrote an op-ed in the paper personally endorsing Clinton’s candidacy.“Although Obama is likable, so was the inexperienced George W. Bush before he became president,” said the Sun's editorial board Friday, “and we know where that got us.”

“Clinton has a long and substantial record of leadership fighting on behalf of working Americans and children, and it is this experience and her passion for creating a better country that would serve this nation so well," they added. “Our country needs someone who can be president from Day One after taking the oath of office.”

Obama and Clinton are neck-and-neck in most recent surveys in Nevada, the third state in the Democrats’ presidential nomination process, after splitting the first two contests.

Hillary? Smart perhaps, calculating for sure. The clinton's have had their chance to run this country and Bill did great. However, new ideas don't come from old houses and change is never introduced by those who claim to have 35 years of experience in a system.

We have embraced a global market under the guidance of previous leadership, takin jobs from America. We have not been prepared to compete, you speak one language, I speak seven, the average world citizen speaks 2, the dollar is at 65% of the euro, countries no longer do business in dollars, they have given our students the option to do math and science the others force math and science.

O melhor representante dessas mudances eh Obama. Abraco e vote!

Sounds like Bill’s editor friend recycled Hilary’s stump speech… there goes authenticity and creativity for that matter.

Well said, Ginny. Go Hillary!

Michael   January 19th, 2008 10:40 am ET

I agree with Ginny. The moreI learn about Obama and study his actual connection to lobyists and special interest groups (unions, nuclear power, et. al) and the readiness with which he lowers himself to go negative against his opponents the less his "change mantra" seems to be about change viz. real issues than it does seem to be about his skin color - especially if you pay attention to his spiritual advisor and pastor.

Sorry Barack, you don't "dazzle" me...I saw MLK and Bobby Kennedy. I also read rather than solely rely on the glitz of TV personalities and you come up unsubstantial in my judgement no matter what spin you care to put on your positions. I am a Vietnam era veteran and a progressive: I find Hillary far more substantial on issues relevant for me. You are to young and inexperienced for me
and i won't be shoved along by your movements glitz.

I'll be happy to vote for you after Hillary's second term. However, I honestly believe the Republicans want you to be the nominee this time . The little senitive tiffs you've had with Hillary over inconsequential and fabricated slights your staff attributes to her will pale in signifigance in a general election once the Republicans go after you. if you don't understand that you don't deserve the presidency. Kerry was a war hero and they trashed him - you don't think they won't lay a very heavy glove on you? That shows a lack of judgement on your part and it is a guarantee of one more republican presidency. When Kerry endorsed you I "unsubscribed" from his mailing list. Hopefully, here in California we'll put an end to this foolishness and the party can and Hillary can finally go after real change and rid this country of Republican influence. You will only fracture and wound the Democratic party.

The Republicans 'act' like they want Hillary - the fact is she can beat them . Roves real hope is an Obama candidacy. You'll see.

I sincerely wish that people would understand that Hillary is not Bill and having Hillary in the Whitehouse will not bring us back to the 90's. The economic prosperity of the 90's was the result of several factors–including a president who could work across party lines. Hillary Clinton will not be able to accomplish this and people need to take the time and address that issue. Furthermore, the current economic problems aren't going to magically be fixed because there is another Clinton in the Whitehouse. There has been a Bush or Clinton in office for the last 20 years. America's problems didn't develop over the last 8 years alone.

The political coverage from the media this year has turned into American Idol!
I guess the public isn't going to hear anything about candidates unless they are
in the first two runner up positions in the polls,People need to go to the candidate's websites and find out what their positions are because we sure aren't
getting it from the media.

JUST SAY NO TO BUBBA. AS MIKE BARNICLE SAID "THERE IS NO DOUBT THE CLINTONS WILL DO ANYTHING TO WIN THE WHITE HOUSE; THEY WILL SAY AND DO ANYTHING FOR THE POWER OF THE WHITE HOUSE."

PLEASE FOLKS, VOTE FOR EITHER JOHN EDWARDS IF YOU CAN'T VOTE FOR BARACK OBAMA.

PLEASE DO NOT LET THE CLINTONS RETURN TO THE WHITE HOUSE.

I HAVE VOTED FOR DEMOCRATS ALL OF MY SIXTY-FIVE YEARS BUT I WILL STAY AT HOME AND ENCOURAGE MY FRIENDS TO DO THE SAME IF THAT WOMAN AND HER NASTY HUSBAND WIN THE NOMINATION.

Yes and that is the message of division !

Stacy   January 19th, 2008 9:46 am ET

It would be nice to see that the candidates all get equal coverage by the media! The democrats have been in a two candidate raise since Iowa with them! It is not fair to give equal time to each candidate!!! I fankly am tired of hearing about Barrack and Hillary!! They don't realize how they actually effect the voting!!! If you look at the issues John Edwards has a plan and experience to change things but the media never gives him a chance!!! COME ON!! LETS MAKE OUR COVERAGE FAIR AND NOT DISMISS ONE CANDIDATE FROM THE OTHERS....REMEMBER JOHN IS THE ONE WHO GOT 2ND IN IOWA...NOT HILLARY!!!And he still was blind sided by the media!Give him the chance he deserves. I also think the bickering between Hillary and Obama shows exactly what kind of people we don't need in the White House....we need someone for the people.

Hi!
My nanes is john and after looking and listening to all the hype from all the Candidates for the Presidency of the US, one thing is quite clear to me;
Senator Obama is a good guy, but, the US is not yet ready for a Black man to be its President, however good he is:
he just wont get there I am afraid, because in the real world that the US people live in, a black President is just not on.

Hillary will win the day; sad to say, but thats reality.
By the way I am a black guy.
Best regards,
John.

Go Hillary!!!!

AnnAloha, PA Independent Thinker   January 19th, 2008 7:23 am ET

I wonder why this article is at the bottom of this CNN Ticker?
When Senator Obama gets an endorsement it's front and center, and CNN wonders why, undecideds are complaining of media subjectiveness.

Rus, Whitburn   January 19th, 2008 5:34 am ET

I remember Bobby Kennedy. He was a new voice whom I found quite inspiring. I hear some of that in Obama, for the first time since then. But good Lord no, Obama is no George W. Bush! I don't think that Bush will ever have the depth and sound judgement based on life experience that Obama has even now.

DJ   January 19th, 2008 3:22 am ET

With less than 10 hours to go before the Nevada caucus. I have this great vision. I might be wrong but I see this happening. Obama is going to win Nevada, it’s not going to be because of the powerful union, although that will help. It’s going to be a win because Independents and republicans’ are going to cross party lines which will tilt this in Osama’s favor. It is same day registration and too many people dislike here than like her. I know Hilary might be winning among old school democrats, but the independent factor and the republications might give Obama the edge he needs. I feel this is my heart. I might be wrong but I give it a 99.9% chance. I being study politics here lately and I think I might got this one right. Let's hope and pray I'm Right.

Also Note, most polls only focus likely democrat votes, not the other parties.

Does anyone remember this story from Hilary.....

The New York Democrat made the remark at a fund-raiser Saturday. During an event here for Senate candidate Nancy Farmer, Clinton introduced a quote from Gandhi by saying, "He ran a gas station down in St. Louis."

After laughter from many in the crowd of at least 200 subsided, the former first lady continued, "No, Mahatma Gandhi was a great leader of the 20th century." In a nod to Farmer's underdog status against Republican Sen. Kit Bond, Clinton quoted the Indian independence leader as saying: "First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win."

The director of a U.S. center devoted to Gandhi's teachings called the remarks stereotypical and racially insensitive, while an educator said the flap underscored the need for politicians to be cautious when trying to get laughs.

"Political speeches can't be like episodes of The Simpsons," said David Robertson, a University of Missouri-St. Louis political science professor.

After being approached by The Associated Press to clarify the remarks, Clinton suggested in a statement sent late Monday that she never meant to fuel any stereotype - often used as a comedic punch line - that certain ethnic groups were synonymous with operating America's gas stations.

"I have admired the work and life of Mahatma Gandhi and have spoken publicly about that many times," Clinton said in a two-sentence statement. "I truly regret if a lame attempt at humor suggested otherwise."

( this is what 35 years of experience will bring you)

Go Barack Obama!!!!!

PulSamsara   January 19th, 2008 1:51 am ET

Barack Obama for President of the UNITED States of America.

Salida   January 19th, 2008 12:46 am ET

Thank you. I know people will gradually see that being a likeable person is not going to do it for this country. The time is crucial, decisions on who the next president becomes could mean the restoration of the country's image or further plunge into more troubles on the political, economic or International fronts.

BILL5321   January 19th, 2008 12:34 am ET

Clinton(SHOULD READ BILL CLINTON) has a long and substantial record of leadership fighting on behalf of working Americans.

Had any of these people from the Las Vegas Sun taken the time to look at NBC or CBS Clinton's timeline posted on the web – they would be shocked as I was.

Most of the timelines about Hillary involves the travel agency mishandling, or her questionable investments(turn$1000 in $100000 in one year) or her going to court.

Lookup on Google the words " clinton timeline" – you will be shocked. The record she is running on is Bills.

Yesterday, Bill Clinton's former economic advisor said Hillary's plan was a very bad plan. If one of her own experts thinks it stupid why is the paper saying she should be president .

Obama 2008

I think the folks in Nevada are smart enough to realize that Clinton is a divider.

OBAMA 08

Zach   January 19th, 2008 12:21 am ET

WHY ISN'T CNN COVERING THE OBAMA NEGATIVE AD CAMPAIGN IN SPANISH AGAINST CLINTON IN NEVADA? WHY ISN'T HE HELD ACCOUNTABLE AS CLINTON HAS BEEN IN THE PAST FEW WEEKS? DOUBLE STANDARDS WILL ONLY FOOL THE SIMPLE MINDED.

Ann   January 19th, 2008 12:17 am ET

Toilet paper to clean up her act?

ron   January 19th, 2008 12:17 am ET

Hillary opposes the Yucca Mountain repository (not "depository") this year, but last year she cosponsored a bill (S. 81) that directs the Dept. of Energy to move high level radioactive waste from New York to a federally operated waste repository. As the only federal waste repository under consideration in this country is Yucca Mountain, it seems as though that's where she wants the NY waste to go!

Except when she's campaigning in Nevada.

Tom, Boston MA   January 18th, 2008 11:50 pm ET

i will vote for Hillary, if she gets nomination and if she secretly assures me that she is indeed a liar who had to lie to get the necessary votes (of the majority who voted for Bush/Cheney twice and would do again and again if they could) so as to furtively try with all her might to change the course of this nation all under cover... otherwise we're doomed!

Ginny CA   January 18th, 2008 11:07 pm ET

A very nice endorsement for Hillary. I'll be proud to cast my vote for such a smart, experienced, hard-working candidate.

Stay strong, Hillary. Keep getting your message out loud and clear. HILLARY '08!
