Sen. Clinton seems to be getting endorsements of black voters mostly from the old guard and the well -to-do . I think most of these are more interested in self reservation and are not keen to see a young black newcomer overtake them; otherwise they will become irrelevant!

stan pitts pa:

We've made some progress in race relations and discrimination, but race is still an issue in many parts of our country. Have you been living in a cave or do you not want to admit to yourself tht race and discrimination still exists? Do you not read the paper and/or listen to the news? Hate crimes still occur! I guess you've never been to SC, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia. Racial issues in these states are out in the open. In so many other states discimination against African Americans, Hispanics and gays exist. Right now, immigration has fuled another a new wave of discrimination and hatered. Women are also still dicriminated against. It's happening right now with this election.

Don't use the Clintons as a scapegoat. People want to accuse the Clintons of a "race war" but that is very unfair. It's the people. It's out there and the Clintons did not cause it. The race issue was bound to come out because it's there and has never really gone away. Obama is playing it in a subtle way--drawing the White & Republican vote as not to appear pulling only the African American. People do not always want to admit they are one way. They may say they have no problem voting for an African American, but in reality they will not admit aloud that they will not vote for one. I believe some people also want to be looked at like the person who is willing to go beyond racial barriers and vote for an African American because they think it's impressive or attractive.

I'm a minority so I know what it's like. I'm not supporting Obama because I don't want to vote for an African American--I'm not supporting Obama for many reasons. I don't believe he is qualified, experienced and I don't agree on his views and solutions to our problems. Also, because he never has convinced me of what work he has done in his polticial life to qualify him for the presidency. Besides, I honestly don't get a good feeling from him.

Dick Morris may be known for his influence in President Clinton's presidency, but in my opinon what he says has about as much influence as Rove. Remember, he resigned from the Clinton campaign after reports surfaced about this involvement with a prostitute. Enough said.

As an African American...I am offended by most comments on this board. To think many americans think that African American will vote for Barack just because he is half African American. This is the problem with America and this is why many African Americans are always bothered when it comes down to race. Race doesn't tell you how you think, how you choose and how definitly how you vote.

Wake up People.........!!!!!

I feel Bill Clinton a very competent politician. His record as our 42nd President speaks for itself, as do the beliefs and practices of the Clinton family. I feel Hillary will make a strong president. I have heard the remarks about having Hillary as president and Bill back in the White House. This same situation is very similar to our 41st & 43rd presidents. However, you don't hear any reporting on that. Why the media is so obsessed with discrediting the Clinton's is a mystery to me. The constant attacks and probing continued throughout Bill Clinton's presidency, and are focused on Hillary now. A perfect example of this is last night CNN showed the vehicles driven by the democratic candidates, and Hillary happened to be driving the most efficient one. The reporter could not resist himself in making the statement "wonder when the last time was she actually drove it." My question is, why single out Hillary? I feel if CNN is going to cover this election, they should be focusing on the issues and leaving their personal preferences and dislikes out of their reporting. I find the entire issue being reported that Bill Clinton is making this campaign about race to be absurd, of course Bill & Hillary Clinton, and only Bill & Hillary Clinton, again one-sided reporting. With that being said, I believe race will make a difference with the african-american vote in South Carolina. I found the responses from some of the african-american women interviewed at the beauty salon about race and gender very interesting. During that segment, one women interviewed stated that she is an african-american and a women, however, she is african-american first. I noticed that statement only ran one evening on CNN, and I have not seen it since. The polls being reported on CNN in South Carolina clearly show the majority of the african-american vote, going to the african-american candiate. I also find it interesting that Oprah is backing the only african-american candidate. If the polls in South Carolina showed a more divided vote, then I would feel South Carolina's african-americans were voting on the issues and experience of the candidates.

Why would Race Cost Hiliary the Race in South Carolina? Because Bill Clinton is playing the race card against the African -American people? Race is not the issue here Bill, it what the American people want and that is CHANGE. So lets run a clean campaign and wait for all the dog fighting when Hiliary gets in the pen with the big dogs whether it is Obama or Edwards. Let Hiliary be a big girl and fight for herself. Did she play dirty when you were trying to get the chance to be President?
Stop the maddeness and let the American decide for themselves, that is what the campaign is about YOU DECIDE 2008.

Most of these people who keep bringing up the affair Clinton had probally wishes they were the ones who could have an affair, or they think their marriage is perfect.
I bet if you had an affair and then try to save your marriage and everyone keeps reminding you about your past affair, Don't you think that is ridicilous to keep on the only thing you can find wrong with Mr. Clinton. I wish that was the only thing wrong in my life. If i only made one mistake in my life i would feel fortunate.
God is the one who will judge him and have the final say not you or me.
I know someone who had an affair and he was so sorry and apologized to his spouse for it and did try to save the marriage. The spouse would not forgive him and she now sits and cries about the marriage they could have had. Maybe if she had been a more forgiving person she could have had the husband and the life the wanted.

I voted Democratic all my life. However, if Hillary wins the nomination, I will have an extremely difficult time voting for her. Not because Obama lost, but because her campaign has complete manipulated the American people and played dirty to get the nomination. And if you play dirty to win, what are you going to do once you get in office.

I respect the election process in our country. And if Hillary run based off of her own platform, she would get my respect and my vote. But she attempting to win the nomination by tearing down another viable and promising candidate and destroying the democratic party in the process.

My prayer is that America wakes up, opens her eyes, and see what the Clintons are doing.

martin curavuer January 23, 2008 5:25 pm ET

Dick Morris wrote about this yesterday (Monday?) He said the Clintons would set up a race war before SC, they needed to win Nevada to make it look legit. Then they could blame a loss in SC on BLACKS! WHICH, they hope, would then draw out a WHITE vote, on Feb. 5th, to retaliate. The Clintons are reviving race problems in America so they can ride the animosity to POWER. Let's ALL show them!!! Let's bring the WHITE, BLACK, ASIAN, LATINO, INDIAN…ALL RACES together, MEN and WOMEN…a UNITED AMERICA under BARACK OBAMA!!

RIGHT, Martin!

Let's start a race war!

I'm a Proud Republican and I have to say that I find your ill-informed comments, as an Obama supporter, racist, ignorant and arrogant!

With Obama and supporters like you we will surely send race relations back at least 100 years.

It was not Bill clinton who brought the race card, it was Obama, his campaign people and supporters. Hillary stated a fact, it took LBJ to sign the CIVIL RIGHTS ACT of MLK that started from JFK. By signing into LAW the Civl Rights Act, the democratic party lost the south to the republicans. Obama took responsibility for the actions of his campaign people who blame for race baiting when they were the one doing it.

Anyone who question what Obama stands for is accuse of bigotry or racist. Maybe we can say that's the reason journalists are not vetting Obama or they'll be called racist. Obama and his people brought this primary down to race which totally goes against the teachings of Martin Luther King. I have a lot of respect for African-Americans, like other voters, they'll base their vote on ISSUES, maybe some will cast their vote based on race or gender. If we really take a closer look where this race issue started, it begun with OPRAH WINFREY when she delivered her speech in South Carolina introducing Obama; when she said, " this is our time." I knew right away what she was talking about, she wanted black community to vote for Obama because of his skin color no more no less.

Bush was a "uniter" too; look where we are now as a nation. Real hopes and dream, takes a lot of work, it requires planning, it requires dedication, whoever wanted that dream and hopes realized must show a track record to back it up. Talk is cheap, it is ACTION that counts.

Dick Morris? What a nasty little man.

If you must listen to someone else in order to form your views about a political candidate, at least try to find someone more objective. Dick Morris hates the Clintons, so anything he says is suspect.

And, you people don't think Obama is fueling the race issue?

Suggesting AA are "good dancers" and referring to them as "Brothers" during the debate was in very poor taste.

That's right Bill. People better realize your attack dog mentality is only a repayment to Hillary after you cheated on her and lied to all of us. While you play the psycho cop, she gets to act like she is a caring compasionate person. If elected she then goes to the White House while you become the first ladies man chasing skirts. Myself, I'm independent because of people like the Clintons that took over the Democratic party for themselves. Hillary, there will be millions of us independents voting agianst you if you get the nomination. You are not Presidential material and if it weren't for Bill's big mouth, you would not even be a Senator. Get real.

If Obama and Michelle hadn't been playing the race card everywhere, including South Carolina, we might have a fair and just election; one where the candidate is selected by qualifications not skin color. It's sickening to watch as the Obamas taint this political season with their childish behavior.

I commented on this before. it went to moderation, then disappeared. what else is new? cnn suppresses opinions it doesn't like. just because it's trying as hard as possible to get obama the nomination (even though he'll never actually get elected), they slant the news and suppress comments. they put just enough through to pretend they're fair. baloney!

Gee.

None of you are talking about the HYPE OF HOPE anymore.

We live in a real world. We live in a world where people dont just roll over and do whatever we want.

Obama's campaign was to consider himself the NEW GUY . New and improved Obama. Not the STATUS QUO . Not like the others. He will bring people together.

This surely INSULTS every other candidate doesnt it?

Obama is the one to INSULT every other candidate by claiming he was ABOVE them all. Every candidate KNOWS Obama. They have all watched his career. They all know he is no different than they were when they started.

Well, guess what? All this mud slinging has proven he is just like everyone else.

I suspect most of us folks already knew this though. Where it hurts Obama is that when he speaks now, people are taking it with a GRAIN OF SALT more than some inspiring GOSPEL truth .

This is why Bill and Hillary Clinton have won every election they have entered since 1980. They are EXTREMELY intelligent.

Black people want to show solidarity. If this is what is important for them, more than jobs, and health care, and education, let them vote for their "brother". The race was brought into picture by Obama and his campaign. They thought it will be plenty of advantage, not just for SC, but overall, because so many white people are afraid not to be called racists. Well, racism is both way. I don't expect that black voters will be unbiased in SC..

Not to mention.... if he has so much else to do... GO DO IT!!!!

Get off the campaign trail and do your important business. Leave the American people in peace finally. If this is your idea of letting your wife campaign, you would appoint yourself King as soon as your wife was in office and take over the country.

Please, save some dignity and respect for our country.... we have lost enough the last 20 years, dont kill the last of it.

In New Hampshire we heard about how much Hilary was suffering before the polls, and that seemed to work. Why shouldn't Bill raise the same argument in Carolina. It will probably work again.

Bill and Hilary have gotten to where they are by relentlessly focusing on what works. It seems to be a theme with politicians who greatly succeed!

Hey, my family members and I use it when we play trading games at home--why should we be surprised when Hilary and Bill use these techniques when their greatest game ever is afoot.

If Hilary wins the presidency, they will go down as the most successful political couple at least our couple centuries have seen!

WHAT is the race problem?

We have a man running as a black man who apparently has forsaken his mother's caucasian blood.

So he is actually half black. Or is he half white?

So, just WHAT is the problem? Maybe Obama should answer this.

How does he make these comments about race and gender in one breath, and in the next turn around and tell a reporter that it's her fault people are talking about race and gender because the Obama campaign is spinning and she's just following along like a sheep? Clearly he has a short-term memory. I respect that reporter for holding her tongue, and it was probably the right thing to do, but I would have had to respond to him by quoting the same quotes from this story. Anyone who thinks the Clintons are being victimized by the media or the Obama camp is really misinformed about the political prowess of these people. Absolutely EVERYTHING they say is a calculated political manuveur. Nothing is by accident. They are not victims, they are very very good at playing political games. Regardless of whether or not I agree with "The Clintons" (who now appear to be running for office together, which is absolutely unconstitutional) on the issues, I cannot and will not vote for these power-hungry politicians. They had their 8 years in the white house. And while Bill Clinton's administration did some great things, they also did some really awful things and made huge mistakes. Sadly, people think of the 90's as the glory days because compared to these last 8 years of Bush, they were the glory days. But I refuse to lower my standards to measure anyone against George Bush. I don't want to repeat the Clinton administration because we can do a lot better.

Bill Clinton speaks with elegance. I hope that what he spoke about in this article is not taken out of context, and have some kind of racial spin put on it.

Obama said in the first debate, he would use Bill and look forward to Hillarys advice. My,my have things changed. Isn't that what he wants, change? Needless to say he got his wish. Politics makes strange bedfellows.

I simply cannot understand why so many voters don't see or understand the "Clinton tactics"... Does anyone for one single minute think Hillary and Bill did not sit down many, many years ago and form a "plan"... Why else would a President's wife run for Senator of New York? Why not Arkansas, their native state or Washington, D.C. or even Illinois..her native state. At least being the Senator from New York could and did elevate her status... What other experience does she have? And let's be truthful.. She is Bill Clinton's wife.... the only reason she is getting the recognizition she now enjoys... He was a good President but had he not shamed the Office of the Presidency he could have been a Great President... Think about it....
