The conservative congressman is backing Huckabee.
The conservative congressman is backing Huckabee.

WASHINGTON (CNN) — California Rep. Duncan Hunter, a former presidential candidate, announced Wednesday he is endorsing Mike Huckabee's White House bid.

“I got to know Governor Huckabee well on the campaign trail,” Hunter said in a statement. “Of the remaining candidates I feel that he is strongly committed to strengthening national defense, constructing the border fence and meeting the challenge of China’s emergence as a military superpower that is taking large portions of America’s industrial base.

"Along with these issues of national security, border enforcement and protecting the U.S. industrial base, I see another quality of Mike Huckabee’s candidacy that compels my endorsement," he added. "Mike Huckabee is a man of outstanding character and integrity. I saw that character over the last year of campaigning and was greatly impressed. The other Republican candidates have many strengths and I wish them all well."

Mccain or Romney will get destroyed by Clinton or Obama….. Im tired of this Republican GOP being a popularity contest…… if anyone really cared these days and actually watched the debates, there would be no question as to who they would vote for….. I am a young man who is extremely interested politics and researching politics, and the answer is clear to me: Mike Huckabee….. The only Non-Flip Flopping True Conservative!!… If people truely cared about the race and didn't vote for a guy because he's the same religion as the, or because they know his name……. Then they would see that Mike Huckabee is the man… He sticks to his guns… and I believe that he would step across party lines and shake hands… and Republicans….. He's all we got come november, so give him your vote!

Billy   February 4th, 2008 7:55 pm ET

Mr Huckabee says all the things I have been waiting to hear for a long time and he makes me belive in this great country once again! You go Mr Huckabee help us all to belive that we are once again that shinning city on a hillside.

The Coach   February 4th, 2008 5:04 am ET

Huckabee along with Edwards and Obama are the only two candidates who seem to really care about people. Everyone else seems pre-occupied with being in charge. I am a democrate but I wouldnt be all that upset If Huckabee won!

calling all conservatives……….. pay attention ….. get out the vote for mike huckabee or lose the election………

The Fair Tax results in the BIGGEST transfer of power from the government to the people. Surely, the government (both parties) will not want that, or let you know about it.

With Fair Tax the people control their hard-earned money, there will be no more: tedious and ridiculous tax forms and time every year, government control of your life, and sky-high cost to maintain the current extremely complex tax system. No more heavy tax attracts more businesses (thus jobs), saved government money can be spent more meaningfully.

It is vitally important to get the facts from the source like “The Fair Tax Book”; and its sequel, which is coming out on Feb 12. Do not take them elsewhere, because the objection is more than likely base on pure ignorance (not reading and studying it from the source), misunderstanding, or hidden political agenda.

All the candidates from both parties is dealing with the tax system by ‘making it more fair’ (still controlling you), except one, Mike Huckabee. Only he is supporting Fair Tax.

He also gets the resolution of other issues pretty well, why not go to his web site and take a look.

I like Mike Huckabee before I knew anything about the man. He seemed genuine. I didn't know he was a Baptist Minister. He talks common sence. I hope he make it to the White House.

paula   January 27th, 2008 4:03 pm ET

So thankful to know whom Congressman Hunter supports. Certainly Americans should appreciate the input of this man of unwavering conviction and unfaltering commitment to his country.

Thoughtful in Washington   January 27th, 2008 3:11 am ET

I am sorry to see Duncan Hunter exit the race; I have the utmost respect for him. Several months ago I started researching conservative candidates, and was so excited to read his statements. He is a true conservative and man of integrity. He was my choice for president.

Thank you, Mr. Hunter, for expressing your support for Mike Huckabee.

Huckabee is the last candidate left for a true conservative. The other three GOP candidates have records that speak for themselves about true conservative values. As I read and reserch, McCain and Giuliani appear to be good men, but are not strong across the board when it comes to conservative foundation issues, Romney comes across as flip-flop and arrogant. His record is not true to conservative values. In addition, his condescending attitude in the debates turned me off as did his "half-truths" that are worse than lies. I know I don't want that type of behavior in the White House!

I admire Huckabee for his positive attitude, commitment to conservative values, and for being in touch with "real" people – people just like you and me. When you look into his record, it is strongly conservative–even fiscally. He balanced his budget (something we wish all our governors would do)!!! The people of Arkansas must have liked him to keep him in office ten years.

So my vote is with Huckabee now–all the way to the White House.

Kristen   January 26th, 2008 3:00 pm ET

Huckabee is a good guy, but I feel that his view on illegal immigrants is really unorganized. He thinks that families that are already in the United States should go back to their real home, which is a good idea, but he also believes that the children who are in school deserve the right to stay here in the United States. That to me makes no sence and is completely unorganized. What are the children going to do?? They don't want to stay here alone without their parents and families. But then again, Huckabee is a real conservative and he has really firm stands on gun control, which I like. I am totally pro-guns.
I love the fact that Huckabee has a love for his religious beliefs, but I feel that it is immature to bring up other candidates beliefs. Example: Romney being a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. It seems that Huckabee always has to bring that up, and to me, it really does not matter. Whatever religion a candidate IS, should really not matter. But having a belief in God is important.
All I can say is that our government needs change, and I know that Mitt Romney would provide that change for our country!!!
GO MITT '08!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

David   January 26th, 2008 1:18 pm ET

He is right on! Not only is he quick on his feet but the only one who did and will beat the Clintons. The other GOP candidates I like but they are too old, too stiff, and too slow. If you want the a GOP white house, Huckabee is the man of the hour.

Mike-Ohio   January 25th, 2008 10:41 pm ET

Mike Huckabee is the first candidate in many years that we can truly believe in. The republican country club elite does not back him. That’s fairly obvious if you listen at all to Hannity and Rush.

Mike doesn’t have the lobbyist advisors or financial backing of Mitt, Rudy or either of the two leading democrats. We need to remember, with that money come expectations. Washington insiders have been taking care of themselves for decades.

It’s time we take the white house back!

John   January 25th, 2008 8:19 pm ET

I notice most of the comments are from the other party of pantywaist liberals. Their problem is they don't has any deserving candidate for the highest office in the world and the Repulicans have many great candidates!

Ken   January 25th, 2008 1:56 am ET

Hunter joins Tancredo as just another GOP-establishment lapdog.Excepting Dr.
Paul, they're all a bunch of hucksters.

mark bowling   January 25th, 2008 12:02 am ET

Good for Huckabee. Too bad Hunter couldn't make a better showing. I like Romney a lot, but I like my keeping guns more (not to mention protecting my values of pro-life / pro-Boy Scouts freedom). I trust Giuliani with guns and abortion more because he’s unapologetic and honest about his views and maintains that he will respect the views of conservatives.

ATTENTION — Regarding the comment about Republicans are just as socialistic as Democrats (And those babies who say they will stay home if their candidate loses):

I agree that our country is in extreme danger of irreparable damage by the crazy people who choose to disgorge the values/policies that made us the greatest nation on earth – We need to get the most effective candidate possible. HOWEVER – when your life boat is sinking, DRILLING HOLES IN THE BOTTOM ISN'T A SOLUTION!!!!! Rally around the Republican nominee (the lesser of two evils) and VOTE and defeat the Marxist Liberals who are bent on destroying the most decent Nation on earth! As long as we are in the process of choosing the nominee, I will not give up having my values represented. I will not bow to Hugh Hewitt’s ridicule of my candidate (if Hugh picks nominees like he picks sports teams, we’re screwed…). You can ridicule my candidate, but I will continue to fight to be represented. I don’t think my outsider, non-flip flopper candidate will not lose, but if he does, I will support the nominee of my party. Don’t be a baby – vote for 50% of what you wish for, don’t let somebody else force upon you 99.9% of what you don’t want…

I believe Mike Huckabee has the vision to get us a Fair Tax policy. Mitt is an impressive bloke, but he had the all the support from birth. Mike came from nothing and has become a great leader. That says a lot about Mike’s character, tenacity and ability to reach the people. He is somebody who can reawaken the “great silent majority” (we still are a conservative nation, but one that is asleep). Can we for once get a down to earth person into office and let the Country Club Republicans take a break the next two presidential terms? All of our candidates can beat the shallow rooted democrat candidates – what we need is a good communicator to go past the campaign and reach for the “impossible”.

SGT VET   January 24th, 2008 10:51 pm ET

4 times now I have tried to post a comment on here and not one has shown up. Guess CNN has a specific agenda that they will follow to the end. Typical media. I really hope that people take the time to personally look into each and every candidate, check out their websites, watch their videos (not the attack adds, they tell you nothing but lies), and make an educated decision in this race. Now more than ever our country needs the right leader in office. You will not find the truth about the candidates by reading or watching CNN or Fox News or any other sources with their own agenda. This message comes with upmost respect for all the candidates, even though I do not believe they are all qualified for the presidency.

God Bless

Troy Brown   January 24th, 2008 10:30 pm ET

Notice how little is reported about Huckabee the last two weeks. This is due to the mostly left media being scared of this guy. If he gets nominated for the republican party, the dems don't have a chance against him. Huckabee rocks. Best…candidate…ever…

Greg   January 24th, 2008 9:42 pm ET

I notice that most everyone on this blog who opposes Huckabee either distorts the facts or thinks he holds positions that he really does not. I urge everyone to do some research and find out what Huckabee stands for. You will be pleasantly surprised (unless you are an anti-Christian bigot).

Ann Darling   January 24th, 2008 8:49 pm ET

I hate to see Hunter leaving the race but very glad to see him supporting Huckabee. When will people see that the guys without all the money and media behind them are the ones we should elect.

Bud   January 24th, 2008 8:30 pm ET

Go Huck – You stand for what most people want but don't know how to get there. Most have never read what you have posted on your site or have studied any of the issuse. Most people in America mark their balot with little info other than what they hear others complaining about. Most that vote at the balot box are blind as many issues they vote on they have never seen prior to voting. Some will always vote absente as they have time to resurch the issues. We need a change in the way we all vote.

why do so many comments at these mainstream media site go down the memory hole. why will my prior comments related to this article never see the light of day. doesn't suprise me. at these "free press" media sites they throw away any meaningful comments a person makes but post your complaint so it will appear as though they haven't done anything wrong.

great. a guy that doesn't support the constitution just supported another guy who doesn't support the constitution. as for the other side the same can be said. …..in the end who cares about his endorsement.

which group of socialist will win. will it be the republican socialists or the democratic socialists.

don't worry about terrorists. your elected socialist minded big spending representatives will destroy the United States.

Mike-Ohio   January 24th, 2008 6:45 pm ET

I’m mystified at some of the opinions I see and hear being expressed.

1.)Huckabee isn’t a conservative, he raised taxes in Arkansas!

Yes he did, but the governor of a state, especially one as poor as Arkansas can’t spend money they don’t have. Arkansas was in desperate need of road and education repair. He accomplished both admirably. He also cut taxes several times during his administration. Unfortunately, our current president, congress and senate have spent money like drunken sailors; their answer is heck we’ll just print more. Guess what, when that happens the dollar’s value goes down the tube, and imported items cost us more. They may as well of raised our taxes! The end result is you now have less buying ability.

2.) Mike Huckabee is a religious zealot and he is shoving that religion down out throats!

Yes, he is a very religious man, and unlike many of the other candidates he does allow his religious beliefs to guide him in his decisions.

That’s what he’s supposed to do!

He has not tried to push his religion on Arkansas nor will he push it on the American public. He will however, push forward those morals that this country was founded on.

SP, IL   January 24th, 2008 6:30 pm ET

Forget about universal health care and freebies, they are for buying votes from people that rely on government for everything. There is no free lunch, all burdens eventually comes back to regular tax-payer like you and me. We need small government, border security, FAIR trade (not 'free'ly trade), 'the Fair Tax' (not flat tax), voter identification. Any candidate who can deliver these worth our consideration…and therefore…all democratic candidate are not qualified. Educate ourselves (especially from opposite side whatever that is) to be an informed voter, don't vote by party or emotion, the vote DO affect you and other people.

Mike D   January 24th, 2008 6:14 pm ET

My choice for president…I'm sad to see him go. Americans can't handle leaders with integrity and personal courage. I came to that conlusion upon observing the adversity the current administration has to endure and the treasonist acts and deceit of the Moveon.org (I mean democrat) party.

Jeff AL   January 24th, 2008 5:27 pm ET

Mike S…..the poor aren't taxed…that is the problem… they run the country through their democratic representatives but dont pay any of the bills. I am also an advocate of the FairTax…if for nothing more than it will make the illegals pay taxes to cover the expense of educating their kids, giving them foodstamps, paying for their housing, and wiping their noses when they are sick.
Jackie…do you think Huck is a woman hater because he cares more for that innocent child you are carrying then he does for you? what is it about you democrats?…you whine about war yet have no problem terminating the lives of 7000 children each and every day.

Bill   January 24th, 2008 4:32 pm ET

This is awesome news!!! This will definitely boost Mike's Campaign, and for those people that think Huckabee scares them, they just need to give the guy a chance, because here's a guy who grew up somewhat poor and had to actually work for a living so he knows and has more experience in the business world better than romney does.

Rexis   January 24th, 2008 3:46 pm ET

This just in: Duncan Hunter (America runs from Duncan) endorses Larry the Cable Guy. Unfortunately, a significant number of posts are directed at Doug, all of them arguing with him for defending the SCIENTIFIC FACT of EVOLUTION by creationist loons who do not know the difference between fact and theory. But this represents the intellect of the America who cares about Huckabee or Hunter.

Betty   January 24th, 2008 2:27 pm ET

Jackie   January 24th, 2008 2:16 pm ET

As a woman, Huckabee is one of the most frightening, misogynist men ever to run for office. I think I will vote Democrat as I don't believe in compulsory pregnancy and outlawing contraception.

Jeff AL   January 24th, 2008 2:07 pm ET

If you want to give away our country to the illegals then vote for McCain or a democrat…your children and grandchildren will be ever so grateful to you that they have to live your mistake.
If you want the government to take your hard earned money to pay for someone else's healthcare then vote democrat.
If you want government spending to increase another 800 billion (which will come directly out of your pocket) then vote democrat.
Otherwise vote for Huckabee. I for one will be. I was a Hunter supporter until he pulled out. When it gets right down to it they let common sense guide their thinking.
And one more thing…the bottom 50 percent of the wage earners in the US pay less than 4 percent of the taxes. Since these are the people that vote democratic (which means they want the gov to take complete care of them) I think it is high time they began paying their fair share and quit sponging off the rest of us.

NILESD   January 24th, 2008 1:26 pm ET

Duncan Hunter is a true American and it's a shame that 'real' Americans didn't see him for what he is. He is a Great American and puts the rest of them to shame.

Bob Pfalzgraf   January 24th, 2008 1:01 pm ET

Besides being a man of integrity, I am voting for him solely for his support of the
Fair Tax bill and the elimination of the IRS. That will be the biggest boost for our economy.

hensa pargul   January 24th, 2008 12:59 pm ET

I like all negative comments against Huck.
Those are coming from the super negative person who have no cahracter at all.
Huck, those comments make you sharper, right?

jyfranca   January 24th, 2008 11:56 am ET

I cant laugh no more, its like taxi driver endorsing president.Hunter didnt get any votes in primary i do not how he could influence non existent people.Maybe he could convince me if he could say huckabee endorsing him.

Mike S Orlando Fl   January 24th, 2008 11:24 am ET

Duncan Hunter is a good man with excellent character; therefore his endorsement should be respected no matter who he endorses. I’m sure all candidates would accept his endorsement.

Looking at this primary, we must be honest with ourselves and admit that a ‘perfect’ candidate does not exist. In light if that, if voters truly understood how destructive our current 95-year-old federal income tax system is to our personal freedoms, economy, & global competition AND truly understood HR25 (aka Fairtax), only candidates that support the Fairtax should be considered.

Due to our global economy -which is here to stay- our current income tax system will destroy our country. Choosing a candidate that supports the status quo is suicidal. God bless Mike Huckabee for being the only candidate willing to emancipate us, un-tax the poor, stimulate the economy, lead global economies, and fix social security (just to name a few).

Fanta   January 24th, 2008 11:08 am ET

Who is Duncan Hunter? Wasn't he running for President? A lot of good this endorsement is going to do for Huckabee. Maybe Hunter will give Hucakbee his leftover campaign funding also.

Steve Keller   January 24th, 2008 11:08 am ET

The economy seems to be the most important issue among Americans. Flip-flopper Romney is trying to make voters believe he is the one to do this because he knows how to become a millionaire, McCain is going to fix the economy by cutting taxes and reducing spending. This is the same old political speech that politicians have been using since the beginning of time. Huckabee has the only real cure for our economy and that is to replace all federal taxes with a consumption tax. I wish Huckabee would spend more time on this issue during his campaign. If every voter was fully informed on the FairTax, Huckabee would receive 90% of the votes. Let Mike save our economy.

David Klepinger   January 24th, 2008 10:53 am ET

As much as I like Mike and still plan to vote for him in the Georgia primary on Super Tuesday (Go FairTax!), I think his candidacy is on the wane. The elitist, establishment types in D.C. and in the media (including Rush) are coming out very strongly against Mike, so I see either Rudy or McCain going up against Hillary, and SHE could be the next president. Just remember, you get the government that you ask for.

Steve Keller   January 24th, 2008 10:48 am ET

It kills me when critics knock Huckabee’s record as a governor of Arkansas. If he did such a bad job, why to the polls in Arkansas show him with almost 60% of the votes. This is much higher than any other candidate's approval rating in any of their home states.

ted   January 24th, 2008 10:44 am ET

Jim you don't want a candidate taking pot shots at his opponents and you are supporting the Huckster. He call Romney dishonest when Romney runs contrast ads, his surrogates threatenen to knock his teeth out and choke him out, he also has repeatedly attacked him for being rich. His b-movie star sidekick says McCain is too old. Neither Romney or McCain have taken personal pot shots like the Huckster.

Nancy   January 24th, 2008 10:40 am ET

Romney looks like the poster boy for a politician. He doesn't look like a real person. He seems to change his focus and sometimes his stand based on the polls.
McCain is like a liberal Democrat that believes in winning the war in Iraq. He doesn't believe in protecting our borders or enforcing the law to get the illegals out. His voting record in Congress has not been conservative.
Guiliani was great on 911. His greatest moment was when he told the Saudi prince to keep his millions. He also implemented some great ideas while mayor of NY, but he has very liberal views on social issues. While I admire him for sticking to his views, I feel very stongly about the border and illegal alien issue and want the border secured with the illegals deported or forced out by implementing the law and putting pressure on companies that hired them. Per the 1986 agreement, that was to be the last amnesty.
Huckabee looks & sounds good now but his prior record does not back up his stand now.
Paul has some good ideas but is pretty weird.

Not much to pick from.

Canton 4 Huckabee   January 24th, 2008 10:38 am ET

All you Romney supporters calling Mike the Tax Hike Mike, what? You talk about getting the facts right on tax hikes, you better check your candidates record because he taxed people twice as Much as Huckabee did in his state. Also his nickname could be slim shady, you look at him and you can see he is a snake oil salesmen, I don't want what he's selling. Go Huckabee, the only candidate in this campaign worth casting a vote for

AJ, Iowa City, IA   January 24th, 2008 10:35 am ET

maj   January 24th, 2008 10:18 am ET

This endorsement by Mr. Hunter is welcomed! When I read all the negative comments posted, it just confirms that there are thousands that just want to make sure whoever gets in office doesn't try to influence their lifestyle. They only know how to post cruel, hateful remarks. Why aren't you working? What have you contributed to this nation beside dirty it up with your foul language and low-life values.

S.B. Stein E.B. NJ   January 24th, 2008 10:10 am ET

I can't believe that Hunter stayed in as long as he did. Those few people that supported Hunter won't do much to support Huckabee. They can't make the Huckabee campaign get any better. Did McCain pick up a big boost when Brownback endorsed him? I don't think so and the same will happen here.

Jeff, IN   January 24th, 2008 10:07 am ET

Mike Huckabee's core values are what this Great Country was founded on! Who cares if he believes in evolution. Our country needs help…face it! A president can't do anything without the support of a united congress…Huckabee has what it takes to pull that off. I can only hope that he does include Hunter Duncan on his team. It would be nice to see some government officials with the same ideas!

Thanks Con. Duncan…Good luck Gov. Huckabee!

Alice L.   January 24th, 2008 9:54 am ET

Sandy, from Arkansas   January 24th, 2008 9:46 am ET

Huckabee is not beholding to creditors and knows how to balance a budget. He did it well in Arkansas. He is a man of integrity and will serve our nation well as President. He also has true graditude with no airs. That is very refreshing!

Jenny, Worcester MA   January 24th, 2008 9:16 am ET

I guess the other gop candidates said NO THANK YOU FOR YOUR ENDORSEMENT to hunter the bigot. Huckabee's gonna need any and all scraps available for his hodge podge pile of incongruous notions, to keep on going with some semblance of a campaign.

Mike Huckabee is the only candidate running, from either party, that will place people above politics. Neither do I want my candidate having a short fuse while focusing on long term solutions and goals for the Country.

Jim, SC   January 24th, 2008 8:35 am ET

Thank you Duncan Hunter for your insight, you too are a man of distinction and integrity. Mike Huckabee is the only candidate that has a chance in the General Election. Mike Huckabee inherited a fiscal nightmare in Arkansas; the infrastructure was on the verge of collapse. Let us not forget, "read my lips, no new taxes" after which was that largest tax increase in history. The American people have to realize that in order to recover from the last 7 years that sacrifice will be mandatory. The difference will be that Mike Huckabee will be honest and straight forward with the American people, which is what we expect from our President.

Fred Thompson took the SC Primary from Mike Huckabee and gave it to his friend John McCain. While the field is shrinking, it's important to realize one very important thing. We have not elected a President in recent history that held a seat in the Senate, the last was Kennedy.

I like Mike. I am a Catholic in Wisconsin. I really think Mike would be great as President, Hunter as VP, McCain as Secretary of Defense, Ron Paul Secretary of the Treasury, Thompson at Att General. Not sure where Romney would fit or Rudy – but they all have good qualities. I think Mike Huckabee and Duncan Hunter are the best ticket if you really see what they bring to the table. Too bad Wisconsin didn't get to have a real impact in the primaries this year.

Mark, Boston MA   January 24th, 2008 6:46 am ET

TIME magazine runs a pro-McCain article again. Another shocker! I can't tell if TIME is so in love with McCain because they actually like him, or because they think his winning the Republican nomination would guarantee the Dems the White House. It's most likely the latter. McCain is a fossil, a relic from some former time. All the man does is talk about national security, while missing the point. McCain views strength the old way: bombs and guns. Romney views national security in the 21st century view: dollars. Vote for the economy in 2008 and give America a chance to lead once again in the global marketplace: vote Romney.

How in the world can so many people on here actually in their right mind call Mike Huckabee a the only true conservative left? The ONLY thing he is conservative on is abortion and some other social issues. His positions fiscally (tax hikes) and illegal immigration (touchback amnesty where illegal immigrants leave for one day, then come back and get their citizenship is just a plain dangerous form of amnesty. Of course now he tries to become tough on illegal immigration. People are starting to see right through Mr. Huckabee, he has had a recent change of position on many issues to pander to voters.

The most true conservative candidates in the race were Hunter and Fred Thompson. Now that both are gone, Dr. Ron Paul is definitely the most conservative candidate remaining. Anyone who disagrees, just look at it rationally and actually look at the definition of conservatism.

John   January 24th, 2008 1:52 am ET

Look what Mike Huckabee has done on a mere fraction of his competitors…If that doesn't prove his fiscal abilities, what does?

tino malauulu,california   January 24th, 2008 1:51 am ET

Honorable ,Understanding,Character,Knowledgeable….. HUCK ,in'08

Kathy Ray   January 24th, 2008 1:20 am ET

WHAT !!! Was he Thinking, when he endorsed Huckabee ???

It is CLEAR, Duncan didn't do his Homework….

Glen, Boston, MA   January 24th, 2008 12:59 am ET

Wasn't there a time Republicans stood for tearing walls between people down?

What happened to that party? A wall won't solve problems – it's a childish, near-sighted solution. Not to mention, an ecological disaster separating critical habitats. But, when was the last time conservatives actually conserved anything? Teddy Roosevelt? I think so.

RG Riley, Pittsburgh   January 24th, 2008 12:26 am ET

honestly, i've heard and read that Huckabee is a great governor of Arkansas and a hell of a guy. However, with the nation nearing recession, what this country needs is a fiscal conservative who knows what he's doing and that man is Romney. If McCain or Huckabee got the nomination I would support either candidate but the man for the job is Mitt. Besides, I know im from the east coast but Duncan who? I only recognized this name as the guy in last place in the election. This country must thrive financially and Huckabee is a little too liberal with some of his policies for my taste.
Romney 08′

Tom   January 24th, 2008 12:25 am ET

If Huckleberry is the gop nominee, I'll sit home and watch Hilly win.

Anonymous   January 24th, 2008 12:24 am ET

Who cares what you endorse. Just go home!

Reagan Fan   January 24th, 2008 12:14 am ET

Before this endorsement, I liked Duncan Hunter very much. With his endorsement of Huckabee, I respect him even more because it really shows that he is willing to stand-up and not follow the NeoCon conservatives who trash Huckabee at every turn. Duncan Hunter is a true conservative who is faithful to the Reagan legacy and is not afraid to speak on behalf of a fellow conservative. This action is one of an honest man who will no doubte suffer the same fate as Huckabee as the attack dogs of conservative talk radio will surely go after another true conservative.

Davis   January 24th, 2008 12:03 am ET

How can the person who said they are a christian conservative say they won't vote for Huckabee..? So you are going to vote for someone that is for partial birth abortion or against the values that you are taught every sunday? Maybe you need to dig deeper into that prayer life and do some more research, consider the source when you hear negative things about ANY candidate.

so… with that being said…
youtube.com search words Romney Lying
and you'll see endless videos in context of him lying on manyyyyyyyyyyy many many many occasions… please don't fall for this garbage. He is suave to the eye but deceptive and probably more like a wolf in sheeps closing then Hilary.
Besides the fact that every interview and debate he says the same stinkin thing!! Washington is broken, were going to fix it. I turned around companies and fixed them. blah blah… yeah basically doing deals with the devil overseas and firing hundreds of people that had been working for years and years like you did at those companies. Its all in your own words…. mr mitt.

If you watch video after video of Mike's Interviews … he is consistent, honest, and genuine and candid. You won't see him posing w/ people just for the photo shot like other candidates. You take him how you get him. He is the REAL DEAL!

Some of you may doubt, but just wait and see what a great nation we have.
No harm meant… do the research w/ an open mind and heart over a period of time and the TRUTH always comes out….

ps. … dog hanging, letting criminals go… etc.. look deeper then the anti' ads.
and remember we are voting for a human not a perfect statue … .the difference is at least HUCKABEE will own up to his wrongs as he has already mentioned if you have been watching his speeches.

No matter who you are leaning towards… just please do the leg work before you cast this all important United States changing vote.

peace to all.

joe watkins   January 23rd, 2008 11:56 pm ET

its tim e for the republicans to pull together behind Huckabee. the hatred, bickering, senseless chatter, wasteful energy spent, etc, etc, does nothing but give the democrats a big laugh. We should all be very fearful of what could happen if they get in full power. I know it must be very difficult for many to accept the honest, straightforward candidacy of Huckabee because of so many dishonest choices we have had for decades. But folks, we absolutely must pull together for the good of our country. Check the record out thoroughly as I have tried to do. Read his books. And 1 last thing …….'BUY AMERICAN, THE COUNTRY YOU SAVE, MIGHT BE OURS"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

David, Oregon City   January 23rd, 2008 11:52 pm ET

Overwhelmed by their access to voters, the elite media talk show hosts are unknowing splitting the conservative vote, as they did with Gerald Ford, Bob Dole and Ross Perot, rather than allowing conservatives and moderates to naturally come together and elect a conservative candidate without the brain washing and negative slandering from the elite media talk show hosts.

As the talk hosts continue to mislead and split the conservative party votes the liberal candidates prepare to win.

Wake up conservatives; ignore “Rush” and the other “Rush” want-a-bees. Support Mike Huckabee for President and send a message that you have a brain, by saying no thanks to their propaganda.

Dennis   January 23rd, 2008 11:49 pm ET

Thank you to Mr Hunter. I believes he knows as I do that Mike Huckabee is the man for this job. Isn't it time that we had a Good Person as President? No one has ever done so much with so little money as Governor Huckabee has. You could tell that during the debates that Mr Hunter was also a good man who cares about America.

Judi A. Nickels   January 23rd, 2008 11:46 pm ET

I find it interesting that the comment I previously left was one that was deleted. So, what was the cause of deletion? Considering the types of things that have been posted, I am quite confused. Is it something against the opinion of a rationalist opposed to having religion forced down one's throat?

Bobby   January 23rd, 2008 11:38 pm ET

Agree, Larry. I wouldn't vote for John, "Americans wouldn't pick lettuce for fifty dollars an hour " Mccain, for dogcatcher. I'm also getting quite sick of his forty year old P.O.W. whining. A lot of folks suffered more than he did, even losing their lives, and it's still happening. Get over it McCain!! and go party with your friend Teddy Kennedy.

cary henderson   January 23rd, 2008 11:38 pm ET

> It bothers me that so many people are anti America here. Mike Huckabee is just pro-American and wants this country to suceed in it's efforts in the world.

Diane from WI   January 23rd, 2008 11:38 pm ET

Is this not the information age?

There was a time in this country where just about all we had on which to base our voting decision was the media (what THEY decided to report.) And, of course, those annoying campaign ads! It was helpful when concerned organizations would put together voter decision guides that gave side-by-side comparisons. Even though the mainstream media still attempts to sway our decisions by trying to ignore candidates they do not wish to promote… we now have the internet!

If you want to know more about someone (i.e., Duncan Hunter, Mike Huckabee, etc.), the internet makes it so much faster and easier!! Just enter the name that interests you into a search engine! Chances are that in the case of a candidate, one of the first choices that comes up will be that candidate's website!! How easy to see his or her "resume!"

If we compare voting for our next president to hiring a job candidate, wouldn't we want to compare resumes and conduct interviews with the most qualified candidates that meet our pre-determined criteria? What are YOU looking for in a president?

Usually, an employer likes to hire someone who has experience performing the same or similar duties as the open job position. We don't have a candidate with experience handling the presidential duties, but the governor of a state will have had similar duties.

We would not want to overlook character or judgement since we would not want to hire someone who was very skilled and intelligent, but was willing to trade away our liberties for their own personal gain or through poor judgement.

We would not want to hire someone who said one thing one day, but changed his or her views the next. So we would want to hire someone who was strong in their beliefs, even if they did not completely align with our own.

We would want to hire someone who has demonstrated success in areas that are the same or similar to those areas where we need success in the future.

We would want to hire someone who would work well with people even if their viewpoints and culture are dramatically different.

Hmmm… Do we have such a candidate in Mike Huckabee?

Educate yourself!! Then vote!

jeffrey   January 23rd, 2008 11:24 pm ET

Go Mike! We support you all the way.

Paul   January 23rd, 2008 11:14 pm ET

Huckabee doesn't stand a chance, with or without Hunter's endorsement. There just aren't enough Evangelical votes in America to secure the nomination, let alone beat Clinton or Obama.

chukmaty   January 23rd, 2008 11:09 pm ET

A great man endorsing a great man.

People who say Huckabee is a liberal need to get away from statements made from Romney payments and Ron Paul tin foil hat wearers. Huckabee's record is conservative by any account from a federalist perspective, especially when one realizes he had to make things work with a congress that was 90% Democratic.

Larry Mac   January 23rd, 2008 11:07 pm ET

Nothing like an Obama or Hillary supporter taking shots at Huckabee. It's the same as a Stalinist taking a swipe at a patriotic American.

Hillary is a Socialist.
Obama is a Socialist.

"Change" darn straight Comrade. You can keep your "Change" and your nifty red berets.

Huckabee will get my primary vote but any Patriot will get my vote in the general election. Heck, John Edwards would get my vote ahead of those two throwbacks.

Landon, The Woodlands, Tx   January 23rd, 2008 10:54 pm ET

Okay, I loved Hunter, but still distrust Huckabee. I still don't think Huckabee is the right choice, but I don't like the rest of my choices. Thank you media for ignoring Hunter until now!

Mike-Ohio   January 23rd, 2008 10:44 pm ET

Hunter’s endorsement is I’m sure appreciated. You have to wonder how Mike Huckabee would be doing at this point in the election had it not been for the concentrated effort by many in the republican party to keep him out. Fred Thompson only stayed long enough to insure Huckabee didn’t garner the lion’s share of delegates in South Carolina.

Allen Fuller   January 23rd, 2008 10:42 pm ET

By the way, I supported Duncan and donated to his campaign long ago. It took me a while to come around to Huckabee, what with all the nasty misinformation about him.

It also took me a while to see that his rhetoric and his way of talking was not liberal, but merely designed to appeal to people who react negatively to the usual Republican lingo.

Mike   January 23rd, 2008 10:40 pm ET

Seems that the elite´s dont want a Huckabee´s victory. But elites sometimes lose, and Huckabee knows the way to go. This guy is the only one who can defeat democrats, and thats the reason why they´re so nervous.

Allen Fuller   January 23rd, 2008 10:38 pm ET

Duncan Hunter, Mr. Border Fence himself, endorses Huckabee, who is purported by many to be "Mr. Open Borders."

This is more proof that the conservative punditocracy, and their well-meaning followers who have not been paying attention for themselves, have been ALL WRONG on Huckabee.

The conventional wisdom is now firmly entrenched. Huckabee is a "liberal" or even a "socialist." People I trust (or used to trust) have latched onto this and have ceased to think further about it.

I hope Duncan Hunter's endorsement will cause people to take a second look at Huckabee with an OPEN MIND.

Start with independent sources, not the usual opinionated sources you may consult. For example, OnTheIssues.org, which, although it doesn't make Huckabee look good on every point, it places Huckabee SQUARELY in the conservative camp. This is just based on his record and statements on the issues, not on hearsay and attacks.

If a close examination shows he's conservative, many will still say "So what? I still don't see why I should support him over any other."

Here are some great reasons to support Huckabee:
- He is inspiring and positive
- He has BOLD ideas– not just more of the same
- He is a great communicator
- He reaches the Reagan Democrats
- He can expand the Party
- He has good leadership skills
- He knows how to get people to work together on a common solution

These are all personal qualities which are hard to come by. If we don't nominate Huckabee, we will be missing a once-in-20-years chance.

Steve   January 23rd, 2008 10:38 pm ET

I said earlier that Chuck Norris brought more votes with him than Hunter will. Sad that CNN censored it earlier. Real sad when comparing the other posts that obviously are slanted to other extremes.

Robert   January 23rd, 2008 10:36 pm ET

I am a Californian and I like each of the Republican candidates (well there is one I can't think of anything I like about but I won't mention the name). Having said this I like Huckabee best. He has the most executive branch experience. 10.5 years Governor and 3.5 years Lt. Gov.

His fiscal record in Arkansas is fine. I know people throw around all kinds of "info", but I ran it down and saw that it was supporters of other candidates who were misrepresenting the situation. He started there with a 200 million deficit and left the state with an 800 million surplus. The budget was balanced every year he was in office (I wish that were true in California). He left the roads, the education, and the healthcare system better than he found them. Anyway… as a fiscal conservative I am good with him.

On social issues he is great.

On economics he is great. The FairTax is a great idea (for those who say it is impossible we have the "impossible" Prop. 13 protecting homeowners from runaway prop. taxes here in Ca. I wish all Americans had this it would really help).

I really like his energy independence thrust.

I think his grasp of the war with Islamic terrorists is the best as well. It is clearly a war of beliefs and ideals and it is a WAR! The terrorists are deadly serious and it is nothing short of miraculous that we haven't had another 911 like event.

On immigration he is great… I've researched this and so has the Minutemen founder Jim Gilchrist.

Finally, he has people getting involved in government like nobody else since Ronald Reagan.

I think the attacks are because he frightens the establishment… they are afraid the common man will have more influence with him then they will and they are right on this. After all, the country does belong to the people and not Wall Street or other elitists and power brokers.

I like Huckabee and the more you get to know him I think you will too.

Check him out! I would not give money to someone I did not believe in. I stopped trusting the party to represent me quite a while ago.

All I can say is support Huck… you won't regret it!

cjstoltzfus   January 23rd, 2008 10:34 pm ET

If not for Mike Huckabee, I would have supported Duncan Hunter. I agree with his policies and his stand on issues, and I agree with his endorsement of Huckabee! Thank you Duncan Hunter… I have much respect for you! Go Huckabee!

Jarryd Tschoerner   January 23rd, 2008 10:28 pm ET

Gezz guys quit leaving these crazy comments, I'ts good for Huckabee's campaign and lets leave it at that.

Bonnie Oregon   January 23rd, 2008 10:23 pm ET

Mike has more chief-executive experience than ANY OTHER candidate. He turned the economy around in spite of bucking the Clinton Machine's vicious propaganda. That is exactly what Romney latched on to and everyone has copied without doint any research of their own.!
I wish I had money to give!

Fox has ignored or actively opposed him all the way which is hard to understand!
He won the first debate and Sean H ignored it–then he won the 2nd one and still it was ignored. Truly, he has 12 years of solving problems for his state to the praise of Time Magazine–brought his state's horrible education rating–Hilary said she had helped education in AR so much, but it was still 49th out of 50 when she moved on!
Mike was able to bring it up to 8th! Incredible.

Michael Medved, talk show host on at 12pm EST, did a two-hour biography on Ronald Reagan and it was amazing how similar so many things were in Mike,s life!
He has the deep convictions, the quick thinking and wit of Reagan and the outstanding ability to communicate to the people! Go, Mike!

Lindsey Brutus, Lake Worth, Fl   January 23rd, 2008 10:23 pm ET

I now call on Duncan Hunter's friend Lou Dobbs to endorse Mike!!!!! Huckabee is the right man for the difficult job of getting something done in Washington. Even Bill Clinton said of Huckabee at the ML King service Monday that although he doesn't agree with Huckabee's positions on a lot of issues he thinks he is a relly nice man. Does anyone else know of a Republican that can get a compliment from Bill Clinton? This country will miss the chance of a lifetime if they don't elect Mike to unify this great nation!! Please! Please! Will all you voters consider electing Mike and putting a president in the oval office that we can be proud of and that foreign leaders will respect and admire?

Dale Davis, Glendora, California   January 23rd, 2008 10:18 pm ET

How sad. I used to like Duncan. But now that he is endorsing the anti-Mormon version of the anti-Semitic David Duke, in the form of Mike Huckabee, I am sure his many Latter-Day Saint constituents in San Diego County are deeply disappointed too. This Mike Huckabee was a keynote speaker in an anti-Mormon rally in Salt Lake City, in 1998, under the auspices of the Southern Baptist Convention. Just like my Jewish brother-in law, and his fellow Jewish relatives, I too, as a Mormon, feel deeply disenfranchised by the many bigots within the Republican Party. That is why so many Jews are Democrats. I may follow suit. At least the Dems don't have a person who is openly anti-Mormon. Mike Huckabee is a liar, if he tells you he isn't anti-Mormon. This alone should nullify his candidacy.

Kailijiu   January 23rd, 2008 10:12 pm ET

For any person who has really taken a deep look at the remaining Republican candidates as well as the Dems, they would have figured out – as did Mr. Hunter – that Huckabee is by far the best person for this countries President. Being from Arkansas, I believe it is true that Mike Huckabee has more true inner character than do all the others. Regardless of past preferences, a person would be foolish to cast their vote with any of the other candidates, either Republican or Democrat.
Cast your vote with Mike Huckabee for true leadership.

Duncan Hunter's support is a confirmation of what alot of people around this country are seeing in Gov. Huckabee. I am so PROUD in the best sense of that word to be a Mikc Huckabee supporter. He truly is the best candidate with the best ideas — across the board.

I've been looking for a person I could really trust to be our President. That whatever the situation or issue that he faced– he would seriously weigh ALL of the information that would be at his disposal (which is far more than any of us are privy to) and with a strength of character together with strong, solid principles, and courage based in the Judeo- Christian ethic — would make decisions that would take all Americans up – vertically as he says. More than anyone I've ever seen run for office, I trust that Mike Huckabee IS THAT MAN> One who would listen to but not necessarily be swayed by special interest groups and polls and would have the discernment to pick strong, talented, knowledgeable, and experienced advisors.

I believe I have found– we have found- and hopefully America will find that – that man is Mike Huckabee. Let the "Prairie Fire" of support spread across this nation for the NEXT president of the United States.

Larry   January 23rd, 2008 9:59 pm ET

ANYBODY but McCain. McCain has never met a war or illegal alien he didn't like!

Cindy, Iowa   January 23rd, 2008 9:57 pm ET

Those that are confused how Hunter could endorse Huckabee need to consider that getting more information on Huckabee. (Real information, not Romney mistruths) He is very much conservative and the closest to Hunter and Thompson of all the options. The fact that he is a man of sterling character doesn't hurt either. He vastly improved the lives and the finances of the everyday citizens during the time he governed Arkansas. He not only improved education, roads and other quality of life issues, he also greatly increased the discretionary income in the pockets of his citizens. (at all levels) Big business in Arkansas loves him and the regular guy on the street there loves him too.

john stiles, texas   January 23rd, 2008 9:47 pm ET

Jim in Orlando, FL   January 23rd, 2008 9:38 pm ET

Hunter is a good and decent man. Huck may get not my vote, but it does not diminish Hunter's integrity or character to endorse him.

Betty   January 23rd, 2008 9:37 pm ET

Hunter is a moron who obviously doesn't know what real conservatives are — and doesn't know that respecting the Constitution is something they MUST uphold above all else. Why on earth would he send his supporters to Huckabee, who wants to Christianize the Constitution in DIRECT violation of the First Amendment? Huckabee also has ZERO character — his numerous ethical violations and instances of cronyism during his tenure as Governor attest to that.

Ron Paul is the only real conservative left. He's the only one who understands anything about integrity, fiscal responsibility, and independence. The others can't seem to see past the wads of money being dangled in front of their noses by big business and foreign companies.

Ruffedge   January 23rd, 2008 9:16 pm ET

Dixie McKie, you have to figure that maybe Duncan Hunter and Jim Gilchrist don't get their info from the talk radio propaganda and spin. They must be going directly to the source. I don't even think that lies and distortions that spew out of talk radio can even compare to the muck that you're pushing out.

Ron Greer   January 23rd, 2008 9:15 pm ET

No more Arkansas Governors. No more Southern Baptist Preachers. Sent you money, Hunter, but no votes to the huckster.

Bill, Covington,LA   January 23rd, 2008 9:12 pm ET

Duncan Hunter was my pick from day one but the news media and the operatives at the debates always made sure to disregard him. Now that he has abandon his bid for the presidency I trust the nomine will have the good judgement to offer him the VP slot. you can not find a better pick.

John Allan   January 23rd, 2008 9:10 pm ET

Huckabee may be charismatic but he sure as heck is NOT "likable" and the people who keep saying that have not followed his campaign closely enough. Did you see that dirty trick he pulled on Mitt Romney, saying he wasn't going to air a negative ad, only to show it to the everyone in the mainstream media moments later. What a snake! That's the dirtiest political trick I've ever seen anybody pull.

John Allan   January 23rd, 2008 9:07 pm ET

Duncan who?

Sally   January 23rd, 2008 9:04 pm ET

Stop lying about Mike Huckabee.

Lying is a sin.

Your sham is falling apart at the seams. People see the truth for themselves once they dig deeper than Rush Limbaugh's lies.

JoelK   January 23rd, 2008 9:00 pm ET

A lot of commentators are hitting Huckabee hard for believing in Biblical creation. Well, he is in a lot of good company. Anyone who seriously and fairly looks at the issue realizes that evolution and creation both take faith to believe. Creationists like myself realize that the amazing design in creation had a Designer. I am a M.S. in Electrical Engineering, and I can attest to the fact that the most advanced supercomputer conceived by man can not compare to the logical/intelligence system found in even the most simple of creatures. Natural selection can't explain it. My brother is a PhD in EE and my father a PhD in organic chemistry. They, too, are creationists by faith and by intellectual conviction as well.

Jeanne   January 23rd, 2008 8:59 pm ET

In all this ping pong of who is the best conservative, who resembles Jimmy Carter, and who has the most money, we get to see the worst side of ourselves. We stomp around plugging our elephant ears and swishing our donkey tails when we have real problems to fix. We care more about positioning and parties than we do partnering to find honest solutions.

And because we aren't independent enough to get to know the candidates individually, we rely upon the media to spoon feed us their squash, cooked with controversy for ratings.

I'm republican but I care more about a president who can bring this country together, and the only one who talks, walks, lives, seeks, and believes "unity" is Huckabee. Overall impressions for me … Romney, too shiny; McCain mighty old; Edwards too narrow; Clinton too cold. Guiliani too city; Obama too vague; what does it matter – we'll find reasons to rag.

Huckabee may not be the wealthiest candidate, but I'm not the wealthiest voter. I don't sense that the others can really relate to the common person. I want goodness not greed, and sincerity not sin.

And the last time I checked, primates haven't become plastic surgeons – although unfortunately some politicians – female and male – are acting like primates.

Liz   January 23rd, 2008 8:57 pm ET

This is Great News. What a wonderful endorsement for HUCKABEE!! Also, Rep. John Linder (R-Duluth) wrote an article today stating that Huckabee was the Most Reagan Candidate in the GOP Primary. And, the MinuteMen Project supports Huckabee — as do the Fair Taxers. So, why is it that the Republican Elite & Conservative Media have their heads in the sand — Huckabee is going to be our Next President!!!! Go Huckabee:)

Kaylina   January 23rd, 2008 8:55 pm ET

I think Huckabee is a great choice! He's the only one on the campaign trail that makes sense when he talks. All of the others keep going back and explaining why they did or said something that contradicts what they say they'll do if they get elected. And he's definitely not "buying" the presidency.

isukusa   January 23rd, 2008 8:55 pm ET

Sounds like there's a bunch of jealous Ron Paulers out there taking it out on the Huck; I actually like Ron Paul but I like tweaking his supporters even better.

Bob C., California   January 23rd, 2008 8:48 pm ET

Gollllllleeeeee! It's interesting how RELIGION and the SAME religious affiliation is the only thing that motivates this endorsement. Mormons for Mitt, etc. Didn't we learn anything from the idiot currently in the White House? "God wants me to be President," he told us. And my God, look at the damage he's caused this country and how we are perceived in the world. Religion should NOT be considered one way or the other when running for the highest office in the land.

Rosalie Powell   January 23rd, 2008 8:44 pm ET

Go Huck, great endorsement from Hunter. Just one comment, hasn't anyone ever seen a misprint in a news account before? DUH!

Dwight   January 23rd, 2008 8:41 pm ET

Pleased to see Huckabee is finallly getting to know Huckabee. Wonder what Hunter said when he did the endorsement?

TSilo   January 23rd, 2008 8:36 pm ET

Well, that's stunning! Used to have a lot of respect for Duncan Hunter. The Huckster wants to give instate tuition to illegal kids. Duncan, what happened dude?

Mike   January 23rd, 2008 8:29 pm ET

Right Dixie…

And your sources would be??

Sarah   January 23rd, 2008 8:28 pm ET

Duncan Hunter is a man of principal and honor. He is honest and trustworthy. He has nothing to gain by endorsing Mike Huckabee. ( Look at all the condemnation heaped upon Hunter just from those making comments.)

I have watched all the Republican debates. Debate after debate I wondered why they didn't ask Hunter or Huckabee more questions. Their answers were intelligent, articulate, and true. I actually enjoyed hearing these two men speak.

Hunter stood by debate after debate watching, Gooliani, the Rominator, Mcboring, and Too-old Thompson answer question after question. Their answers were predictable, boring, and "canned." He knows a thing or two about all these men. I believe that he knows a thing or two about Mike Huckabee, and this "thing or two" led Hunter to endorse him.

Soldiergal   January 23rd, 2008 8:28 pm ET

As an active-duty Soldier and registered Democrat, I'm thrilled about this development. The endorsement of a fellow who thinks the residents of DC should be able to carry concealed weapons can only underscore the more troubling aspects of Huckabee's candidacy. I like Mike as a neighborhood-minister-type, but could never vote for him.

MyKisa   January 23rd, 2008 8:22 pm ET

Hunter was my first choice, but I knew Huckabee stood a better chance. I like Mike, but I LOVE Fair Tax, and so does Hunter.

Joyce Todd   January 23rd, 2008 8:17 pm ET

I am 69 years old and I have never felt so in tune with any candidate as I have Mike Huckabee.. and yes, I have donated and I intend to donate more. I am also not what you might be thinking…a "Bible thumper" but I truly and sincerely believe Mike Huckabee is honest, very able, and a once-in-a lifetime candidate who will unite America and mend fences with our neighbors…Also, I believe he will be strong and stand tall regardless of criticism and the negatives that he will surely have to withstand. He WILL BE the uniter; not the divider… Think about it America.. We need Mike Huckabee.

John   January 23rd, 2008 8:13 pm ET

Have any of you romney supporters read Ducan Hunters letter. How can we trust a person to lead us in a war against terrorism when he has financial connections to suspected terrorist orginizations? Sen. McCain he is going to protect our freedoms. Now how do we trust a man to protect the constitution when he has strongly influanced the abolishment of the first amendment to so many groups in this country. Can we say McCain-Feingold? And Ron who good luck to all of you who support him. I LIKIE MIKE. he is the best and only man for the job

David   January 23rd, 2008 8:11 pm ET

I don't think most people consider outstanding character and integrity as two negatives. These may be the two most important qualities even above party and politics.

Divot   January 23rd, 2008 8:09 pm ET

This is the most bizarre thing I have seen in a long time. This site is full of what appears to be blind devotion.

At the start I was equally interested in Brownback, Romney, Thompson, Hunter, Huckabee, Ron Paul and willing to consider Guliani and would never consider McCain. I realized I needed to get to know everyone and set out to get educated on everyone. I am sorry to say that after extensive review Huckabee has proven to be the WORST choice out of all these options except for McCain and Ron Paul.

How many of you on this thread are evangelicals who like Huckabee for that reason? Or because he has a good campaigning personality (I'll giveyou that).
But other than that, he is not strong on integrity, flip flops on his positions like anyone else inspite of accusing others of doing the same, and was the closest thing to a socialist in actual actions than anyone else BY FAR among the republican candidates.

It is puzzling to say the least to hear you all on here talk about his integrity, his conservatism, etc, etc, etc. People keep saying "get to know the real facts about Huckabee and you'll love him." I did get the facts and only McCain and Paul are worse.

HuckFan   January 23rd, 2008 8:06 pm ET

GO MIKE GO!!!

Huck is the ONLY one who can win against the liberals. He's right on all the issues. He is JUST what America needs. Beware of the MSM…get your info elsewhere.

Thank you Hunter! Go Huck!!!

Anonymous   January 23rd, 2008 7:56 pm ET

I like Mike's stances on the taxes. I believe that enacting a national sales tax would great for one reason: Folks who work under the table, will have to start paying. Finally we can even the playing field and get the folks who we support on health care, food stamps, social security to start paying into there own future. Look around and see how many people do a little woodworking, plumbing, or turning wrenches for a $100.00 handoff and don't report it. These folks couldn't get by the system when they try to purchase there next pair of pants. They would indeed, help pay for their future.

Furthermore, Mike has tried to dodge the religion questions and challenged the interviewers on these matters, but they still ask. And like any other question of any other candidate, he will respond.

There is one thing that is absolutely awe inspiring about his campaign as governor: handing the vote of an increased tax to "We The People". When was the last time any politician relinquished there right to vote or power to have the last say. MIKE DID IT.

That's is believing in the sovereignty of the nation.

Above all – MIKE stands beside what he says. No back peddling with him. He says what means, and means what he says.

Mary Lou   January 23rd, 2008 7:55 pm ET

Great news for Huckabee. Not surprised because Hunter seems like a man of character also. This leaves one principled, charismatic, social conservative in the race.
Republicans WAKE UP. Huckabee has the best chance to beat Hillary in the Fall, and he will make a great president.

David- California   January 23rd, 2008 7:54 pm ET

Hunter has no future in California after his stupid endorsement of the Liberal in preacher's clothing. Look up the Huckster's "real" record on the search machine and you will discover why Judicial Watch called him one of the most corrupt politicians in America. The records show that Mike Huckabee was charged with misusing state funds and accepting questionable gifts from the special interests and would have been promoted to the Big House, not the White House, if he hadn't had the evidence destroyed, Where is the character and integrity?

Anonymous   January 23rd, 2008 7:52 pm ET

LEGRE ZURC   January 23rd, 2008 7:52 pm ET

some of you guys are saying that you are conservative evangelical…..
yet your views and convictions are too wickedly liberal.

some of you says that Huckabee must believe in Evolution, if not he is a clown.
if we that do not believe in Evolution are clowns… it's okey.

but you, who do believe in Evolution came from a Gorilla

Eric   January 23rd, 2008 7:50 pm ET

You Huck supporters need to research his past record. He is fiscally not a conservative. He raised taxes many times as governor & expanded the state government by the thousands. He also supported illegal aliens every chance he could for the cheap labor it brought to the state's agricultural businesses. Socially he is a conservative, but fiscally he is as liberal as it gets.

Bill in Pennsylvania   January 23rd, 2008 7:50 pm ET

Hunter did not do that for the VP since he is not a logical choice being from an unwinable state for Repbulicans and, as a fellow conservative, would not be perceived as a "balancing" of the ticket. His endorsement is, I'm sure, genuine. I respect him for it and agree with his favorable statements about Gov. Huckabee. I am sickened by the establishment Republican machine (including talk radio) writing him off, and hope he wins if for no other reason.

TP   January 23rd, 2008 7:49 pm ET

I dont understand why people get on here and just bash a man for getting/giving support. Dang we are all Americans and we live in the best country on the planet….Huckabee wants to keep it up. Is that wrong?

He isnt forcing faith by the way….i dk where people are getting that idea. His Christianity can only help our country. Unless you are against the ten commandments and like to murder people, cheat on your wife, steal and so forth, then i can see why you dont want a Christian in office.

Chill out…he is human just like every other candidate….except Hillary. No one really knows what she is….

Huckabee actually reminds me of a more conservative TR…if anyone knows who he was. Probably not but oh well no one ever remembers the good anymore…thanks LIBERAL media

John F W   January 23rd, 2008 7:47 pm ET

Opinions based on no information or misinformation are not helpful to voters who want to make an informed decision about candidates. Hannity, Limbaugh, Coulter, Bauer the mainstream media (MSM), the Republican establishment, the conservative elite, the religious leadership, the talking heads, and the pundits can repeat the misrepresentation that Mr. Huckabee’s economic and foreign policy views are liberal from now until November but that won’t make it so. They can say Huckabee’s support is limited to evangelicals, but that is far from true. They can state that Huckabee is out of contention is Florida and perhaps nationally but that is absolutely not the case. Visit the web sites of the candidates and research them on the internet. Read articles written by them and about them. View videos of their speeches, interviews, and debates. After your research you may come to your own conclusion (not one fed to you by others) that Mr. Huckabee is by far the strongest advocate of faith and family values. He is very reasonable and logical in his economic policy, particularly regarding economic stimulus and job creation in the short term and the Fair Tax in the long term. Huckabee is a leader capable of putting together a formidable team of experts for foreign policy, defense, and security. He is very conservative regarding the size and scope of the federal government and states’ rights. Finally, Mike Huckabee enjoys widespread unwavering popular support. These are what make a candidate electable, not their “sound bites” in a debate or interview or their jabs at their opponents.

Dixie McKie   January 23rd, 2008 7:44 pm ET

Hunter's endorsement of Mike Huckabee makes as much sense as Minuteman Jim Gilchrist's endorsment of him. I am stunned.

The best predictor of future behavior is past behavior. Mike Huckabee's record on illegal aliens is abysmal, just ghastly. He's never met an illegal alien that he didn't want to give instant citizenship, a driver's license, free medical help, a free education, et cetera, ad naseum.

If I wanted to vote for an open borders candidate, I didn't think I'd have to look for one in the Republican party – although there at least two of them: Huckabee and McCain. But they are Democrats masquerading as Republicans. What a joke!

No thanks.

GaryO Virginia Beach   January 23rd, 2008 7:42 pm ET

If you Republicans really wanted to do what's best for our country, you would for the Democratic candidate in the general election.

Our country may not survive another Republican administration.

Jay   January 23rd, 2008 7:42 pm ET

It's funny to me how so many different people can claim so many different things. The process here is to find the candidate who most embodies your personal beliefs then support them for the nomination. All the candidates have good qualities as well as some questionable ones. There is no need to bash one candidate or their supporters for following what they believe.

I support Mike Huckabee because I like his Fair Tax proposal, I like his pro-life position, and I like the fact that he will allow the generals in the field to dictate how war is fought rather than those safe and sound in Congress. There are several other issues I support as well, just don't want to drag this on for forever.

I feel that John McCain is a very honorable patriot who has given the best years of his life to the defense of our country. I don't believe that he is the best person to lead the charge in reforming Washington DC.

Governor Mitt Romney is good man with strong family values, as many Mormons do. I disagree with his past positions on same sex marriages, not to mention that it is coming to light that one of his companies is hashing out a deal with the Chinese to manufacture our defense weapons.

Congressman Ron Paul is a zealot when it comes to fiscal issues. And he is correct, I think we spend way too much money protecting other countries at the expense of our own. However, I do not think he is going to support our allies if, God forbid, the situation ever arises. Isolationism is good to an extent, but too much will hurt us.

I believe that Duncan Hunter's endorsement of Mike Huckabee is a good thing. I think that his support will help the Huckabee campaign with a new influx of support, however small it may be. But that's all it takes, 1 voter at a time.

Pete   January 23rd, 2008 7:41 pm ET

Now that the news is out that Rudy is low on money, Mitt is the only candidate that can go the distance and win in November. If the people of Florida do not wake up and give Mitt a win that would make the dems and the media very happy indeed. A vote for McCain or the Huckster is a vote for the Democrats and economic & international failure the next four years.
The Huckster will be out after getting 3rd/4th in Florida so why waste a vote.

Thomas   January 23rd, 2008 7:33 pm ET

I think this is a geat endorsement coming from a geat man. "Way to go Duncan!" "Kick butt Huckster!"

Tim, Minnesota   January 23rd, 2008 7:32 pm ET

Texarkana   January 23rd, 2008 7:26 pm ET

Mr. Huckabee needs all you Fred Thompson supporters on his side. In reality, Mr. Thompson and Mr. Huckabee have very similar views on alot of issues in this country….Thompson supporters please get behind Huckabee!!

Brant   January 23rd, 2008 7:21 pm ET

I don't believe Huckabee is a bigot or religous nutcake.

I think before people judge the Huckster they need to take a look at themselves.

GO HUCK!!!

sammo93   January 23rd, 2008 7:18 pm ET

I was a Hunter supporter and I am astounded that he endorsed the Huckster whose record in Arkansas was that he was an ILLEGAL Aliens very best friend. And was still able to raise taxes at the same time.

I am amazed at people who totally buy his Elmer Gantry engaging personality and appearance of sincerity. Check his record because that tells the truth. He said anything to get elected in AR and then did the exact opposite of what he had promised. But, like Clinton, all the complaints were handled with "you must have misunderstood what I said".

For all our sakes, do not select a candidate on a smile, snake oil, and personality. Judge every one of them on their proven record of their actions, NOT on the flimsy promises they make. Bush promised a small government, fiscal responsibility, no empire building. Does that sound familiar? Wake up and check the facts….not the fairy tale.

J, El Cajon,CA   January 23rd, 2008 7:15 pm ET

Thank you Mr. Hunter…you are my Rep. here in CA and are highly regarded. This is awesome!! For those of you who don't know Huckabee, check out mikehuckabee.com and fairtax.org you'll quickly learn WHY HUCKABEE!!

Sebastian , Germany   January 23rd, 2008 7:15 pm ET

Yup that´s it! Better a president Huckabee, than two democrates who can´t behave themselves in public and by the way support the murder of innocent unborn babies.

Nate   January 23rd, 2008 7:14 pm ET

Ted, all of those ethics violation accusations were investigated and found to be frivolous. They were all dirty partisan attempts to discredit the republican governor that was reelected twice in what was previously a democratic controlled state. Many pull articles from the Arkansas Times as if they are news articles. Little do they know that the Arkansas Times is not a newspaper it is a left wing opinion based "alternative news source" (tabloid). The fact that his opponents are deciding to rehash accusations that were already investigated and found frivolous shows they are as foolish and petty as those who original concocted the fictional tales.

Texarkana   January 23rd, 2008 7:11 pm ET

You know what, Huckabee can win the election, and I am very glad that Duncan Hunter endorsed him. He is the best conservative candidate in the field, and has great moral values to boot. He has been totally undermined by the conservative talk media (that I normally like and agree with), but in this case they are way off target. I am from Arkansas and have zero complaints about this man. He has improved the schools and the roads as he said. As for the evolution comments made above by Doug……so you believe in evolution, huh? How can you look at this earth and every living thing in it, on it and above it and not believe this was all created by God the Father? Clown? Doug, your public school system has made you the Clown.

B. Payne   January 23rd, 2008 7:09 pm ET

With Thompson out and Hunter endorsing Mike, there's only one true conservative left in the race: Mike Huckabee. This more than compensates for the South Carolina loss, and puts Huckabee in perfect position to win the solid South, since he's the only mainstream candidate who's both conservative and Southern (Ron Paul is from Texas, but he's an isolationist conspiracy theorist radical with approximately NO CHANCE of winning). Whoever thinks Huckabee is dead needs to look at his website: since Thompson and Hunter dropped out, his donations are picking up. Don't be surprised if he does better than expected in Florida and takes more than a little of the South! He may not be able to get a majority of delegates, but he could get a plurality, or at least enough to get himself a veep spot. It's not over yet.

Ron   January 23rd, 2008 7:07 pm ET

Just wanted you to know that I support Mitt Romney. I wouldn't care whether he was a evangelical (what does that mean?) or a Mormon. I've known alot of good Mormon people, and Romney doesn't appear to be any different from them. Go Mitt!

Joseph H   January 23rd, 2008 6:59 pm ET

Duncan Hunter's endorsement of conservative candidate Mike Huckabee is nothing, because Hunter was polling marginal numbers anyways.
Huckabee's senior level staff are working without pay, just like Giuliani's.
Both will be out soon enough, don't fret none.
That will leave Ron Paul, Mitt Romney and John McCain.
Ron Paul is the only candidate who can beat Hillary, the likely Democratic party nominee. No one was even talking about the Constitution and preserving its intent and principles in the GOP debates until he brought it up.
Mitt Romney won't attract the evangelical vote- this is an important voter segment for any GOP candidate.
John McCain would be annihilated by Hillary- he's already stated that this country could be in Iraq for another century, although he didn't say how he would pay for it. Put Romney or McCain in front of the voters, and you will guarantee a Democratic president in 2008, regardless of who the Dems have on their ticket.
America is tired of the Iraq War and while our country slides further into economic hardship, the so-called GOP "front runners" have no idea of what Americans want.
By the way…"Roe" from Roe v. Wade this week has endorsed Ron Paul for president.

Jim   January 23rd, 2008 6:58 pm ET

Tell Huckabee to go Suckabee….

I will actively campaign against any candidate such as Huckabee who "wants to preach his crap" to everyone in the country and believes that is a legitimate mean for even amending the constitution.

People should fear this guy.

Go Everyone Else!

Aiken, S.C.   January 23rd, 2008 6:56 pm ET

What an honor to gain Rep. Hunter's endorsement. He is a fine American who also has alot of integrity. As someone who was so strong on border security for the state of California, and on national defense, I think it speaks volumes that he would support Governor Huckabee. Like many of us, when you take the time to really hear what Mike has to say about all the issues, you learn what a bright mind he has. I believe he is the only one of all the candidates, Dems or Reps.who can bring opposing sides together. He listens to the other person's veiwpoint and comes up with a third alternative that both sides can live with. That is why he was able to accomplish so many positive things for his own state. It takes a former governor to have the necessary experience to run the country. The Senators in Washington haven't been able to get anything done. They are too out of touch with the average citizen in the rest of the country, and all they want is to keep getting re-elected for all the perks – the salaries and pensions.
Many thanks to Rep. Hunter. Excellent choice! Please just take a look at Gov. Huckabee's website and learn more about him before you count him out. I am proud to support such an outstanding leader.

Bill, Arkansas   January 23rd, 2008 6:52 pm ET

Gov. Huckabee will be good for America like he was for Arkansas. I drive AR roads every day. I see the improvements. I didn't notice a tax increase. The roads were paid for through a fuel tax that wasn't that much. Our gas was still cheaper than surrounding states. He had enemies in AR (Democrats) that tried to smear his record every time he was up for election / re-election. It didn't work. The voters got to know him, and trust him.

Nathan AK   January 23rd, 2008 6:51 pm ET

Very graciously put, Mr. Hunter.
Despite the misleading comments from the opposition, Huckabee is in a close race, with some gallup poles showing him in first place nationally. He is in second place as far as delegates, and each state from this point on in the race has the potential to rearrange the standings. Mike is poised to take Florida, and is dominating local support in many other states already. I anticipate by the weekend, Mike will be in first place nationally as well as in the gallup poles. It is ludicrous to start calling the winner 10% into the race as some would do, but I DO look forward to Mike's nomination and am working toward that goal! Way to go Huckabee, and thank you Duncan Hunter!

K. Wilkinson   January 23rd, 2008 6:49 pm ET

Way to go Duncan, endorse Mr. Congeniality instead of a candidate who is worthwhile. How bout that character. Huckabee the bigot, Huckabee the flip flopper, Huckabee the panderer, Huckabee the best friend to illegals until it didn’t set well with his campaign when he did an about face. That would make him Huckabee the liar. Huckabee Mr.,” Here are the negative campaign adds that I won’t show cause I’m running a clean campaign”.

Duncan Hunter-What an idiot!

Chris   January 23rd, 2008 6:46 pm ET

Well I've been reading these comments and it seems to be many of you don't understand, you can't say someone is the wrong candidate or the right candidate because that is your opinion and thank God we live in a country where you can have your own opinion. Now your opinion is just as important as any other's so you can't just immiedietly say you're right. I am not endorsing anyone at the current moment for many reasons. I don't like Huckabee's tax plan, I don't like Romney because I don't believe in the fact of having multiple wives I consider that cheating, Giuliani has some Democratic views, if McCain were elected he will have been our oldest president so its more based on who he chooses as a vice president if you catch my drift, and democrats are pro abortion I mean come on, you never know who that baby could grow up to be or what that baby could do for the world so yeah that's my opiniong and I'm not instanly right.

Mary   January 23rd, 2008 6:46 pm ET

Mike Huckabee is the man for the job! Thanks to Duncan Hunter for supporting Mike Huckabee.

John   January 23rd, 2008 6:41 pm ET

For Doug

Natural selection is fact. Conclusive proof exists to prove it. Evolution is pure theory. No conclusive proof exists to prove it and the lack of specific evidence that should exist strongly disprove it. Do you know what a transitional species is and do you understand why even Darwin said the lack of them (even to this day) makes the THEORY of evolution highly suspect. Their are over 100 scientific indicators that the earth is young (less than 100,000 years). Their are 5 scientific indicators that the earth is old (billions of years). Look up uniformitarinism, study a little palentology, do a little (or lot) of true "scientific" research and then make intelligent statements about evolution and natural selection not clownish ones like a person with a Bachelors degree in political science.

Dennis   January 23rd, 2008 6:37 pm ET

EXCELLENT ENDORSEMENT – My two choices from the very beginning have been Mike Huckabee and Duncan Hunter. They both completely understand the seriousness of the problems we face, and Duncan Hunter understands that of the candidates remaining in the race, Mike Huckabee has the most Comprehensive, well thought out plans and ideas for dealing with those issues. Not to mention…as he said…being the Man of Character and Integrity that Mike Huckabee is, makes him the right choice.
The Radio Talk Show talking heads and the mis-guided "talk show conservatives" need to give Mike Huckabee's record an HONEST look, rather than listening to the Blathering idiocy that comes from these guys. Once they do they will find that they've been mis-lead to believe that Huckabee is some kind of Moderate, etc., when in FACT Mike Huckabee is BY FAR the most Conservative candidate running in this race…and not just socially conservative. His Economic and Tax proposals are truly the only radical, TRULY Conservative, long term policies, that will help to avoid the financial disasters that are heading our way.
Personally I'm so conservative that I'd almost be considered Libertarian…in fact I call myself a Libertublican, so there's no way I would vote for John McCain, or any Democrat…..but with Mike Huckabee, Rush and others just plain HAVE IT WRONG!! I've listened to Rush Limbaugh for 18+ years and have agreed with him most of the time, but you only have to listen to him for a short time to hear that his opinions of Mike Huckabee are completely off base and biased. All you have to do is compare Mike Huckabee's 10+ years as Governor vs. Mitt Romney's 4 years as Governor, and you can clearly see who was the more conservative….or at BEST for Mitt Romney's sake…you'd have to say that it was fairly even. And YET Limbaugh spends 3 hour shows..day after day…week after week, completely trashing Mike Huckabee, using half truths or limited details to make sure his point is driven home. Unfortunately, I've lost alot of respect for Rush over the past few weeks, had he maintained an un-biased approach to ALL of the candidates until the field had been whittled down to the last 2 or 3, or even until the convention, the party and Rush himself would have been in a much better position, but Rush, Glenn Beck, and many of the other Bain Capital, Clear Channel, "Mitt Romney-ites" or "Giuliani'sts, have decided to play their hands and therefore may have caused the kind of rift in the Republican base that may cause us to lose the election in 2008….which would be a catastrophe.

A vote for McCain or the Huckster is a vote for the Democrats and economic & international failure the next four years.
Romney is a moderate conservative across the board. He is smart on the economy, opposes amnesty, is pro-family, and is intelligent enough to handle the war and not quickly leave after we have won.

Amy   January 23rd, 2008 6:34 pm ET

This is good news for Governor Huckabee, and makes me respect Duncan Hunter even more because he recognizes who is truly the strongest and most conservative candidate in this field. No one has put out a more comprehensive immigration plan than Huckabee has in his 9-point "Secure America Plan." Mike Huckabee also has the ability to be our most effective leader in the area of national security, because he has the communication abilities to explain to people the true theocratic nature of Islmic terrorism, and I believe will be able to bring people to understand why this issue is so important.

Thanks Congressman Hunter. Go Mike!!

As Conservatives in this country ( both Paleo and Social ), we must start looking at the past fruits of each candidates labor. It is easy to call oneself a " Conservative ", but it is a totally different story to actually vote and govern as a " Conservative ". Each of the Republican candidates calls themselves a conservative, but just saying it does not make it so. Ron Paul is the only true Conservative( both Paleo and social ) in this race. I am not saying this because of what I saw on a debate, a campaign commercial, or TV political commentary. I say this because of how Ron Paul has voted in Congress over the past years and on the legislation Dr. Paul has sponsored. This presidential race is far too important to make a decision based on punch lines and one- liners. We as freedom loving Conservatives and all voters for that matter, must do some research on these candidates before casting a vote. It is our responsibility as voters to be informed before pulling that lever. Our beloved Rebublic could be at stake. Her are four examples of legislation that Dr. Paul introduced during this past 110th congress ( 1. H.R. 1094 – Sanctity of Life Act of 2007 – , 2. H.R 1096 – Second Amendment Protection Act of 2007-, 3. H.R. 1146 – American Sovereignty Restoration Act of 2007(To end membership of the United States in the United Nations)). As conservatives we must research the issues for ourselves and not rely on talk show hosts and the news media. God Bless America.

Mike Huckleberry   January 23rd, 2008 6:30 pm ET

Mike Huckabee is a disgrace and a step in the wrong direction for America. A vote for Huckabee is a vote for the unification of church and state. The United States of Iran.

Matt   January 23rd, 2008 6:29 pm ET

Why is it that Huckabee supporters call themselves conservatives.
Conservative bulwark Duncan Hunter calls Huckabee conservative.

But all these talk show hosts with a business relationship to Bain Capital call him liberal? And Duncan Hunter couldn't see that?

Talk radio fans, wake up, like I did. You are being fed a distorted version of reality!

Ron in Jax Fl   January 23rd, 2008 6:19 pm ET

I did not see the first comment that Duncan Hunter and Mike Huckabee both support and promote the Fair Tax. The Fair Tax would replace the Federal Income Tax meaning you would be taxed on what you spend on new goods and services and not on what you earn or invest. The federal government would no longer control how you spend, save or give away your money. Duncan Hunter's endorsement is appreciated. Mike Huckabee is a good candidate for President. If you go to mikehuckabee.com and actually look at where he stands on the issues, you will see what I mean. Fred Thompson gave him a bad rap in the SC debates when he jumped on the Gitmo issue, because the Chief of the Military Admiral Mike Mullen was saying we need to shut Guantanamo down because of negative publicity during the same time period. I still believe we should keep the prisoner in Gitmo isolated and not bring them to the states. Mike Huckabee is the best choice. What we need to do is enforce our current laws and replace the IRS with the Fair Tax.

Susan   January 23rd, 2008 6:09 pm ET

Hunter's endorsment seals the deal for me…..I LIKE MIKE.

Elizabeth McDonald   January 23rd, 2008 6:09 pm ET

I am in Florida and there is some definite support down here for Huckabee. I have to admit, I was concerned about a pastor running for president, but after looking into the facts, records, and watching debates I am very excited about Huckabee. GO MIKE!!

olga alarid   January 23rd, 2008 6:08 pm ET

Despite your negative blogs and media, Mike Huckabee still is a man of integrity, faith as he stands by principles such as opposing same sex marriage and abortion. He protects the unborn. This country is Godless and we know it. We are a arrogant people who think that all that we have is by the making of our own hands not realizing that it is God who first blessed this country and made it to be what it is. We ask where is God when Katrina hits and fires run rampant, men dropping their children off of bridges, incest, pornography etc. Well we also have to ask where are we when we want God out of our schools, public office and shame people (like Mike Huckabee) who stand by their faith. Yes God may have perhaps left us to our own arrogant devices so Godless we stand.

angelo   January 23rd, 2008 6:07 pm ET

Hell yes!!! I now wonder what all the conservative talk show hosts will have to say now? They all seemed to respect Duncan Hunter very much especially Laura Ingrahm but dissed Huckabee every chance she got. I hope this will shut them the hell up. Keep doing your think Huckabee!!!!

Susan   January 23rd, 2008 6:07 pm ET

It was a toss-up between Huckabee and Romney for me; Hunter's endorsment seals the deal…I LIKE MIKE.

deb   January 23rd, 2008 6:04 pm ET

Duncan Hunter is a good man and knows of what he speaks. I hope he runs for Governor. We would wholeheartedly support him too!

Mike Huckabee, is, as Duncan Hunter says, a man or character and integrity. Duncan sees it and knows it's true. And this is something we need in a president!

Thank you so much for supporting Governor Huckabee!

Dave T.   January 23rd, 2008 6:00 pm ET

All of these Huckabee supporters coming out of the woodwork… I wouldn't be surprised if they're a few people signing on with different names over and over again, or a blogging bee in the basement of some church. The voting numbers don't lie, though. Like Hunter, he, too, is going down.

Tyler   January 23rd, 2008 5:59 pm ET

Well Thompson is out, Hunter is out, now Paul needs to be out of there. The world would laugh at us if we elected someone like Ron Paul. He is so quirky.

don   January 23rd, 2008 5:58 pm ET

Great news for Gov. Huckabee !!!!!!!

Keep praying for Mike and this country. Please contribute to Huckabee so that we can spread the message to everyone. May God Bless his campaign and this country.

Ask the Real Mormon Questions?
1.) What do Mormons do in their "Highly Secret Temple" Ceremonies such as Weddings.

2.) Why are the "Ceremonies" so Secret that even blood Relatives not deemed "Worthy" by their local Bishops, (Lay Clergy Males) are not allowed to witness the event?

3.) What remotely mainstream Church does not Welcome Visitors of all faiths or no faith, to their celebrations?

4.) Do you want a President of the United States who subscribes to a creed whose dictates he can not share?
Are any of the other Candidates so Burdened?

Keith   January 23rd, 2008 5:55 pm ET

I hope Huckabee gets the nomination, because I think he would be easily beaten. The fundamentalist Christian thing makes lots of voters very uncomfortable. I mean, not believing in evolution! Weird! I think religion has no place in the White House. I am tired of the Christian far right dictating policy.

Bob   January 23rd, 2008 5:53 pm ET

I will say this to Hunter: he and Tancredo succeeded in making all the other candidates address the immigration issue.

I wish Ron Paul would have the same success with our ridiculously irresponsible monetary policy and our dangerous, wasteful and immoral foreign policy.

Matthew of Buies Creek   January 23rd, 2008 5:51 pm ET

Well if you ask me, Hunter was the most Reagan-esque candidate policy wise.

Kyle   January 23rd, 2008 5:51 pm ET

Hunter had 2% of the Republican vote, that translates into hundreds of thousands of votes (for people who are not only republicans but also would vote in the primaries) that could potentially go to Huckabee. So it is a big deal.

ridley   January 23rd, 2008 5:45 pm ET

well, not quite. we were staunch supporters of Hunter, incl. donations to his campaign, but we will not support Gov. Huckabee. and we are Baptists, as well. we are not convinced of his sincerity and plan to sit the presidential election out for the first time in our lives. at the polling booth, i will vote for other races, but when i look at the presidential boxes will pray, "Into Thy hands i commit this election, Father". may God save our country.

John   January 23rd, 2008 5:45 pm ET

This is great news! Thompson's out and now Duncan Hunter endorses Mike. I believe Mike will score a tremendous victory in the debate Thursday night become the winner in Florida.

He's the logical choice and everyone but the Washington insiders are starting to realize it.

Barbara Jones   January 23rd, 2008 5:45 pm ET

That is a great thing to do! Glad to see that Duncan Hunter recognizes the worth of Mike Huckabee. I am indeed pleased, and am honored to be behind Mike Huckabee for President. America, wake up and see that we ALL need to back Mike Huckabee.

Robert   January 23rd, 2008 5:32 pm ET

I supported Hunter. Huckabee has my vote for sure!

Anonymous   January 23rd, 2008 5:32 pm ET

“I got to know Governor Huckabee well on the campaign trail,” Huckabee said in a statement.
_____________

So why is it so newsworthy that Governor Huckabee endorses himself?

concerned american   January 23rd, 2008 5:25 pm ET

United States of American NEEDS Mike Huckabee even if for only one term!!!
to help restore and preserve what the founding fathers hopes and dreams were for a great nation. Duncan Hunter would be a great choice for Vice President.
Huckabee would make Hillary look like an idiot at any debate, his quick wit will out shine her arrogance…..GOP elites better wake up!!….Who was the last prez with that quick wit.?…..Ronald Reagan. He united our "United States" and brought hope and re kindled our dreams..

Anita in Florida   January 23rd, 2008 5:19 pm ET

I agree with most of what Canaan said , however, Huck's campaign is not faltering. The fella's a real marathon runner and understands the power of hitting the wall and getting a second wind.

He has folks who have never been involved in a campaign before but are compelled to throw our all into supporting Huckabee. All of us have different priorities, but he has touched the core of our soul and we really really believe he is the guy we need to lead this nation into a totally fresh new better path.
Everyone else on both sides is just more of the same old line of boloney.

So sad the Republican party wants the same old good-ole boys who only pay lip-service to the true concerns of "everyman".

With everything in me, I'm behind Gov H. I hope Fred T will have the wisdom to follow Hunters lead.

Vinnie   January 23rd, 2008 5:12 pm ET

I'm leary of Huckabee, but I supported Hunter and value his endorsement. I WILL NOT vote for Romney or McCain! So that leaves Huckabee. Sigh.

Jonathan, Florida   January 23rd, 2008 5:12 pm ET

Now if Fred Thompson will do the same! :o )

Can you say touchdown – slam dunk – grandslam and goal!

David Deering   January 23rd, 2008 5:12 pm ET

Duncan Hunter is not a man to say such things lightly.

Maybe this will at least convince some, who like me are concerned about following conservative solutions, to take a closer look at Mike Huckabee; instead of immediately believing the Romney spin machine.

gusspoon   January 23rd, 2008 5:11 pm ET

Mike Huckabee's politics are as conservative as anyone in the race……and the Democrats fear him….

I think the people who are against him must hate him for some other reason
besides politics?

If they come forward a say why they really do hate Mike I bet he could help sooth away their fears!

Bob   January 23rd, 2008 5:11 pm ET

Do you mean Hunter (not Huckabee)

Brian   January 23rd, 2008 5:06 pm ET

Hey Doug,

Evolution is a workable THEORY, hard to prove scientifically all the way through, with plenty of solid facts / clues therin as well to be sure. As a democrat and a Christian following Jesus, I find it illogical and useless to think of science and the theory of evolution as anything other than describing as best we can how God did it. God is not excluded by science, rather science explains in beautiful detail the supernatural / mostly unexplained creation (heard of metaphysics Doug?)- scientists agree there is more unknown than known. Next, if you care to do a literary analysis of the Bible, it is a love story, not a science explanation. Some parts of the Bible are trying to establish that God created the world using not-to-be literally understood, but to paint the picture for us to understand, not master scientifically.
Mike Huckabee might just get my vote- he may have weaknesses, but all those running do. We need a brave visionary executive, not a whiney, complainer. If Obama said something about abortion being wrong and here's how we're going to keep reducing the killing of innocent new human beings by actually telling the truth about how it's obviously wrong to not take responsibility for ones behavior (making babies, etc.) I might vote for him too. The others are same 'ol, Edwards is too angry and too liberal. Lets see what you got Mikey!

John TX   January 23rd, 2008 5:02 pm ET

Another great endorsment on top of a long list of great endorsments! This guy has my vote!!!

Jared   January 23rd, 2008 4:59 pm ET

A loser endorsing another loser.

Evergreen State   January 23rd, 2008 4:58 pm ET

Sorry, but Huckabee is not presidential in my view. Anyone who acts like a child the way he bashes candidates because of their religion or age does not deserve to hold the highest office in the nation. We need strong, consistent leaders who distinguish themselves as patriots. Not school yard bullies. Chuck Norris and Huck can have a nice career making "total gym" commercials.

Go Mitt…

Gil - California   January 23rd, 2008 4:57 pm ET

I am sorry to say this, but I believe the only way Huckabee would get a chance at getting elected is if Hillary is the Democrat's nominee, and that would only be due to the anti-Clinton feeling in many parts of this land.

Cydney   January 23rd, 2008 4:57 pm ET

I noticed a mistake in the article:

"I got to know Governor Huckabee well on the campaign trail,” Huckabee said in a statement.

I think you meant "Hunter". :)

Good news for Huckabee! I'm so stoked to see the results of this.

Todd   January 23rd, 2008 4:56 pm ET

Unless Hunter is going to donate millions of dollars to Huckabee's campaign, it won't matter. The Huckster is nothing more than an answer to a trivia question in the future. There is nothing more UN-Christian than an individual using Jesus for personal gain of power. (I am a born-again Christian, btw….)

GOP Gal   January 23rd, 2008 4:53 pm ET

I agree with Duncan Hunter on this one. Mike Huckabee's campaign has restored my optimism about my party and my hope in America. He's the most principled man in the conservative candidate field, by far. Thanks for recognizing it, Rep. Hunter!

Todd   January 23rd, 2008 4:52 pm ET

The "only true conservative" in the race is, has been, and will be the one and only Ron Paul from Texas.

Wake up, America. Before it is too late. Do not be fooled by Mike Huckabee or John McCain. We cannot afford another 4 years like the last 20. Vote for freedom, vote for the Constitution, vote Ron Paul in 08!

Many of us will support Paul all the way. If the Republicans want to insure another Clinton administration, just run a McCain or Huckabee in November. There are enough of us who are informed that used to vote for the lesser of two evils. No more. We will stand with Dr Paul and if that takes away votes from the establishment flunkie then so be it.

Tax cut schmax cut, its time to address the monetary issues, and restore real freedom. No more distractions abroad. We spend billions and billions defending everyone elses borders but not our own?

Stop the insanity.

Good day and God bless,

John in GA   January 23rd, 2008 4:49 pm ET

I remember when I used to be a faithless skeptical cynic too. Now I see that Huckabee is the last best hope for America to the dismay of the far right AND far left. Why some of you nayysayers are hung up on evolution here I'll never understand. You believe what you have been taught in public schools the past few decades as if it was the gospel truth and ignore what the Bible has claimed for centuries and in doing so fulfill the prophecy of God's Word! Huckabee has my vote and has inspired me to get off the sidelines and into the game like no one since JFK!

Wisconsin4Huckabee   January 23rd, 2008 4:48 pm ET

Duncan's endorsement is truly great for Huckabee. Now if we could get Ron Paul to do the same and throw in a few million dollars to boot, we'd be in good shape. Mike is the best candidate left. He was an outstanding governor…bringing Arkansas from near the bottom in school test scores to the top 10. He rebuilt his state's infrastructure and it now boasts some of the best interstate roads in the country. In 2005, Time Magazine named him one of the nation's top 5 governors. He has the administrative ability and common sense that we need. He is articulate, kind and deeply patriotic. If you like Mike, support him with your money as well as your words. GO MIKE GO!

Matthew Plummer   January 23rd, 2008 4:47 pm ET

Hunter had mostly Military Support but its comming Huckabee's way.

Shaun   January 23rd, 2008 4:47 pm ET

Way to GO Duncan Hunter!!! Mike Huckabee is your choice because consistent, unwavering character does matter. Unlike Flip-Flop-Flip-Flop-Flip-Flop Romney that has connections to Bain Capital Company that is buddy-buddy with a Chinese (People's Liberation Army) Company. The Chinese will steal 3COM's technology secrets just like they did with other U.S. secrets through their dummy companies in the last 10 years. Come on people wake up and smell the coffee!!!

Joe   January 23rd, 2008 4:47 pm ET

I originally wanted to back Duncan Hunter, but didn't see him heading to a viable campaign. I contacted his campaign directly and indirectly and could not see the burning desire. I think very highly of Rep. Hunter, and am glad he is backing Gov. Huckabee, my final choice.

leo66   January 23rd, 2008 4:44 pm ET

Mike; you call yourself a conservative christian evangelical, is not the root of christianity CHRIST? Reread everything you stand for and try to imagine CHRIST's position.

TexasTami   January 23rd, 2008 4:42 pm ET

To Mike: your post amused me, on a slow day for political news. Mike Huckabee cut taxes over 94 times. A "Jimmy Carter" would never have cut taxes, even once. The in-state tuition? You're wrong. He never wanted in-state tuition for children of illegals. He wanted scholarships for those children of illegals who had been through the school system, made excellent grades, and QUALIFIED for state scholarships. He didn't think the actions of their parents should keep these kids from becoming tax payers, instead of tax takers. Neither of his positions were mistakes. He helped move Arkansas schools (under a court order to increase spending $500 million) from #49 when he became governor to #8. That's very impressive.

ted   January 23rd, 2008 4:41 pm ET

How can anyone say the Huckster is a man of intergrity. He had numerous ethical violations in Arkansas. He took the state plane to private speeches that he received money for while gov. He destroyed goverment owned hardrives when leaving office. He has his surrogates attack fellow candidates while smiling and saying he is running a positve campaign. He is not a conservative look at his tax stances, look how he was for a national smoking ban until switching in S.C. He was also is favor of lifting the Cuba trade embargo until he switch when he realized that was a bad position to have in Florida.

Harvey   January 23rd, 2008 4:40 pm ET

Hunter knows the border situation better than any of the elite snobbish repubs. Go Mike!

Bryan   January 23rd, 2008 4:40 pm ET

Not sure why this is news. Maybe because he did register < 1% of the votes so far. Maybe that's why CNN thought we'd all be interested in his opinion.

Paul   January 23rd, 2008 4:40 pm ET

That shows that Mike Huckabee is the one conservative left! We need a President like our Founding Fathers–one who believes in the Creator and fears God, depending upon Him! My vote is for Mike Huckabee!

Samantha   January 23rd, 2008 4:39 pm ET

I agree Mike! It’s not a big surprise that Hunter has endorsed Huckabee and brought with it only a handful votes. Huckabee will most likely lose in Florida and if he's lucky he might pick up two or three states on Super Tuesday, but that's about it. Huckabee seems like a good man, but he opened his idiotic mouth too in South Carolina.

Anonymous   January 23rd, 2008 4:39 pm ET

Duncan Hunter is an honest, good man. I believe Huckabee is also. And those who know them more closely say the same thing. Zig Ziglar endorsed Huckabee with a video on YouTube. Same for Tim LeHay.

Huckabee's opponents say the same thing also – Democrat Sen. Bradley just commended him yesterday, Bill Clinton said at the MLK ceremony that there was "nothing on which we agree, but he's a good man". John McCain says the same thing, as does Giuliani.

The only exceptions seem to be Mitt Romney and his supporters (Rush Limbaugh, Matt Drudge, Sean Hannity, etc). Duncan Hunter rightly pointed out yesterday that he would NOT support Romney since one of Romney's companies is partnering with a Chinese company to take MILITARY production to China!

Fred Thompson was also in attack mode — also for obvious partisan reasons. He strongly supported McCain in 2000 and in effect did the same in South Carolina. Thompson's supporters are conservative, but I don't see that in Thompson's record of support for McCain-Feingold, opposition to tort reform, etc. It'll be interesting to see if he openly continues his support for McCain.

Huckabee, unlike McCain, Romney, Giuliani and Paul, is a committed social conservative on issues like life and marriage (Paul has always opposed doing anything top stop abortion other than funding – which is the failed GOP reaction for 35 years). He is also fiscally conservative, raising taxes 1/20 of what Reagan did and that was 10 years of Huckabee and compared to the first year of Reagan. No other executive has fought tax increases in a Democrat state as effectively and ingeniously – at one time creating a "tax me more" fund for those who thought taxes and government spending should be higher. Education went from 49th to 8th.

Josh Chancey   January 23rd, 2008 4:37 pm ET

It's funny that Mike Huckabee has all these supporters, yet he's going broke. This just shows how he will act in the white house. Overspending, and people who like him but don't trust him with their money.

Eric   January 23rd, 2008 4:36 pm ET

Doug…do you really believe in evolution? I guess you were there and must be a scientist. Actually you probably just believe whatever your teacher or your book told you! I guess that makes you smarter and wiser than anybody else out there. Open your eyes Doug.

Russ   January 23rd, 2008 4:35 pm ET

Huckabee is way too much of a Jesus freak for me. His lack of of a cooperation with Democrats will put us where we are right now with Dubbya. Shouldn't people who are smart enough to use a computer be smart enough to vote for someone who can help mend this nation, like Obama or McCain — true bipartisans?

Josh   January 23rd, 2008 4:35 pm ET

Huckabee is a a bible beater. He forces his views on others even if it contradicts the constitution. (for example, when he was asked a question in the recent debate about the war issues). I'm a Christian, and I know the only thing Huckabee is running on is his religion. He will raise taxes as president. Whether he raises sales tax and lowers some other tax, we will still be over taxed. And this war will keep going on. We will be doing "good" in other countries, while ours falls apart.

Doug Missouri   January 23rd, 2008 4:34 pm ET

I was one of the die-hard Hunter supporters. Too bad he was ignored by the Hollywood Media AND his party. I'm dissappointed that he didn't endorse McCain, another Viet Vet.

Janice J. SC   January 23rd, 2008 4:33 pm ET

Mike is the man! Simply the best candidate out there for the many reasons as Rep. Duncan Hunter stated. He can and will win this election and our country will be a better place for it!

Milton, Harrisburg, PA   January 23rd, 2008 4:32 pm ET

I hope Huckabee gets the Republican nomination. It is easier for the Democrats to win the white house when they are running against someone that is insane and regressive–fair tax, aligning the constitution with the word of God, keeping women subservient to their husbands, equating homosexuality with beastiality….take your pick. He's a nutter. It's hard to find someone more socially conservative than Huck that wasn't born in the 14th century.

john   January 23rd, 2008 4:32 pm ET

Duncan Hunter wants Hucksterby? What flavor Kool-Aid are you on, Dunc?

Cliff, Arkansas   January 23rd, 2008 4:31 pm ET

Mr. Hunter may not have had much support, but he has now proven he has great wisdom and insight. He is now endorsing the ONLY TRUE CONSERVATIVE in the race. Now if only Rush, Sean, Ann, and all the other Republican elites would wise up and be willing to admit they've been wrong (fat chance) they'd endorse Mike too.

Joan Cromer   January 23rd, 2008 4:31 pm ET

Thanks Duncan Hunter, you GET IT! GO MIKE GO!!!!!!

Harvey   January 23rd, 2008 4:29 pm ET

Hunter KNOWS the border situation better than the elite snobbish repubs. Go Mike!

Robert   January 23rd, 2008 4:29 pm ET

Hunter is such as respected man.

I talked with people this last week in some of the main camps and they all really liked Hunter and thought hightly of him. This endorsement could help Huckabee is California and along those who want to see the border secured and fair trade for America.

I expected this endorsement as Hunter and Huckabee are similar on almost every issue. They both support the FairTax as well.

AJ, Iowa City, IA   January 23rd, 2008 4:29 pm ET

Well this is just nuts! Why don't you endorse a stump in the ground.

I endorse Romney!!!! My endorsement makes sense, but Huckabee? Are you kidding me!

Nashville, TN   January 23rd, 2008 4:28 pm ET

Huckabee is a RINO and an advocate for scholarships for illegal aliens. He panders to social conservatives when his policies all indicate that he is left of moderate. His record as governor of Arkansas proves that Bill Clinton was for the most part more conservative than Huckabee… after all, Huckabee raised taxes by about 500 million without spending caps and continues to support a National ID card for illegal aliens… which further legitimizes them by using tax payer funds to grant ID cards to people who don't belong here in the first place.

I wonder what Hunter's angel is here.

I'm freaking voting for Ron Paul because he's the only candidate advocating the removal of illegal aliens from our welfare system! Approximately 338.3 billion dollars a year in welfare benefits to illegals must stop!!! Then they'll go back home! Plus Paul is pro-fence!

Rick   January 23rd, 2008 4:28 pm ET

I read many blogs when studying the candidates, and one thing I notice is how positive and courteous Huckabee supporters are, and how rude and negative Huckabee rejectors are. From that standpoint, I think I'm leaning towards Mike Huckabee. I suppose that makes me a target for rude and negative comments!

John   January 23rd, 2008 4:28 pm ET

Hillary Clinton is a POLARIZING FIGURE in America…and as such, there is no chance she can unite this country…Democrats need to bear that in mind…

Mike Huckabee is the one candidate who can pull our nation together…

You don't get change with someone moving from the capitol to the white house (McCain). Or the white house to the capitol and back to the white house…Hillary. Common sense I think.

MIKE HUCKABEE supports FAMILY RIGHTS!!!

Lou Dobbs on CNN was just talking about how the Elite Democrats and Republicans are essentially the same….why do you think the Dems mentioned McCain on the most viewed debate the other night? They WANT to run against McCain…not only do they know they'd beat McCain (Age issue, lack of charisma, etc.) But, they know that even if McCain did win, he wouldn't rock the liberal boat….BUSINESS AS USUAL!

McCain does NOT inspire….neither does Clinton…frankly, HUCK and Obama are the only real inspirational speakers with the charisma to sway millions…and HUCK is the man with the right messages….

MIKE HUCKABEE IN '08!!!!!!!!!

v   January 23rd, 2008 4:27 pm ET

this is why America is going to the dogs….a lot of people in this great nation prefer to value immorality and selfishness instead of driving this nation to be people-centered and Christ-centered. God never sleeps and He will judge all this people and throw them out into the lake of fire for all eternity….Go Mike! We will be praying for you.

Jason   January 23rd, 2008 4:25 pm ET

Duncan Hunter – Thank you for recognizing that Mike Huckabee is our best choice for President. With his communication skills and ability to connect with the common man, Huckabee is also our best choice to beat Hillary Clinton in November. Thanks again.

rs wood   January 23rd, 2008 4:24 pm ET

If Huckabee wasn't in the race, I and many others would have been Hunter supporters. He was a fine candidate but Huckabee shared many of his values and was just a much better communicator.

If all you know of Huckabee is what his opponents say about him (including so-called conservative talk radio) you owe it to yourself to check out the facts on your own. This man could easily be our next President, and if he continues being marginalized by the establishment of the GOP, the Republican party will lose this next election, guaranteed. There is a growing resentment by social conservatives that the GOP don't really care about these issues–that they will abandon millions of unborn children and marriage if it will save them a percent or two on their taxes.

The blinders are off now, and it changes everything.

Doug   January 23rd, 2008 4:23 pm ET

Mike Huckabee? You do realize this is the same guy who does NOT believe in evolution right? How in the world are any of you supporting this clown?

TexasTami   January 23rd, 2008 4:23 pm ET

No question, Mike Huckabee shines in this field of Republican candidates. His integrity, his wisdom, his vision for this country, his wit, his candor, his strength of character all make him a very compelling choice for president. Good choice, Mr. Hunter.

David   January 23rd, 2008 4:22 pm ET

what a loser!!!!!

Anonymous   January 23rd, 2008 4:20 pm ET

I believe the second line in paragraph 2 should read Hunter.

bobrocky   January 23rd, 2008 4:17 pm ET

This is great news for the Huckabee campaign. Hunter is widely admired and brings true conservative credentials in his support, especially on matters of trade, immigration and national defense. Huckabee is a great candidate, refreshing and a great conservative. He wants to abolish the IRS. You can't get more conservative than that!

Mike   January 23rd, 2008 4:17 pm ET

Huckabee will be gone after Super Tuesday. He has no chance.
I consider myself aconservative evangelical Christian.
I will not vote for Huckabee under any circumstances.
Actions speak louder than words.
He raised taxes in Arkansas and tried his best to give in state tuition to illegals.
He won't admit that either was a mistake, just evades the quiestion.
He's thin skinned and naive.
He's Jimmy Carter with pro life views.

Dale, Denver, CO   January 23rd, 2008 4:15 pm ET

If Duncan Hunter thinks Mike Huckabee will make such a good president, then I want a big ol' bowl of whatever Hunter's smokin'. Must be darn good stuff to get that kind of hallucination.

M Harris Florida   January 23rd, 2008 4:15 pm ET

Hooray for Huckabee!!!

Karen   January 23rd, 2008 4:15 pm ET

Duncan Hunter is a great man! I'll have to check out Mike Huckabee a little closer . . . I've heard good things about him!

Todd Wilmington, DE   January 23rd, 2008 4:14 pm ET

A complete nobody just endorsed a complete nobody.

VOTE DEM IN 08!!

DaveP   January 23rd, 2008 4:14 pm ET

What kind of license do you need to hunt duncans, anyway? Can you fry a duncan in a popcorn popper, like you can with squirrels?

MikeknaJ, Orange County CA   January 23rd, 2008 4:13 pm ET

Superb news for the Huckabee campaign. That and Thompson's exit from the race bode well for him, since McCain and Guliani will be splitting much of the same vote, and Romney is now aiming for the fiscal conservatives.

It's funny how people keep knocking Huckabee as pro-amnesty (something that is completely untrue), yet he's now scored endorsements from Jim Gilchrist, the creator of the Minuteman, and Duncan "Border Fence" Hunter. Clearly Huckabee's critics need to look closer at the facts and not just the spin if those two guys can endorse him:

Spencer   January 23rd, 2008 4:13 pm ET

Hunter and Huckabee are on opposite ends of the Republican spectrum, I am baffled by the endorsement.

Huckabee is charismatic and likable, but has made too many horrible decisions as Governor for me to support him. Also his 14 plus ethical investigations as Governor, and his covering up of his son hanging a dog incident, scream to me that the guy isn't to be trusted.

Kim   January 23rd, 2008 4:13 pm ET

So Cool—-President and Vice.

RTM   January 23rd, 2008 4:12 pm ET

This is a great pickup for us Huckabee and Hunter people-way down here. A lot of these soul-less boobs out there in radioland are digging their own grave. The leftists have been trying to do Rush in for years. Funny how in the end Rush meets his own end in the hearts and minds of his former audience. Funny.

Conservative Joe, Tampa, FL   January 23rd, 2008 4:11 pm ET

Huckabee is a big government conservative who is soft on illegals.

Romney probably would have been endorsed by Hunter, but Romney's performance in Wyoming and Nevada basically derailed Hunter's strategy and knocked him out of the race, creating some jealousy.

Romney is now up 5% in Florida on the latest Insider Advantage Poll matching the 5% in the latest Rasmussen Poll. He is also now a close second in California taking away a great majority of the Conservative votes.

Go Romney in '08!

Andrew   January 23rd, 2008 4:11 pm ET

I met Duncan Hunter at the Texas Straw Poll in September. He is an honorable person with great integrity. His national security credentials cannot be questioned. If he thinks Mike Huckabee is the best out of the remaining candidates, that says something.

Vote Huckabee!

Debbie, Michigan   January 23rd, 2008 4:09 pm ET

Thank you Rep. Hunter! God bless you! It's unfortunate people didn't get to know what an outstanding candidate you are and how strong you are on defense and anti-terrorism . California has a border fence – everyone else is wondering why the fence hasn't been built. How is it that you were able to get the job done, but the other states are still scratching their heads!
Thanks for endorsing Gov. Huckabee – he is our last hope for a strong conservative president!

Natalee VA   January 23rd, 2008 4:09 pm ET

Gov. Huckabee and Rep. Hunter represent how our political leaders should be – straight talkers who don't change their core values and say anything just to get elected. Way to go, Gov. Huckabee!

CKing   January 23rd, 2008 4:08 pm ET

Mike Huckabee is the one that can pull people from the middle together to actually get something done in Washington. Anyone who knows anything about politics knows that a President can have has many ideas as there are grains of sand but if he can't pull people together in congress from both sides of the isle – his ideas are dead in the water and NOTHING gets done. Huckabee has proved in Arkansas an overwhelmingly democratic state that he can actually get things done against the tide. The liberals say he's a wacked out Christian conservative and too conservative for their taste and the die hard elitists of the GOP who care more about money that morals think Huckabee is too liberal. When both party extremeists think the opposite of Huckabee that tells me he is right on! Get over the bigotry against Christians, America, and look at your own history! Go Huckabee!!

Tom Masters   January 23rd, 2008 4:07 pm ET

This is sooo unimportant.

Interesting that 'African-American' church leaders are coming to his support in droves, what about the white ones?

This is a very dumb distinction.

Matthew   January 23rd, 2008 4:07 pm ET

Even if Duncan Hunter never got much support, everybody knows he is the real-deal when it comes to conservativism. He wouldn't sell out his values by giving an undeserved endorsement. This should put to rest all rumors that Huckabee isn't a "true conservative."

martino   January 23rd, 2008 4:07 pm ET

Rus ; Sean ; Bill; and Glen are fat cats who say that they are conservatives but keep harping on taxes. I wonder why? Mike is conservative and brings something else the oval office has not seen in years——DECENCY !!!

athiest   January 23rd, 2008 4:05 pm ET

im not a relgious guy…but this Huckabee does seem to have good character. and a good realistic pla….i normally vote democrat..but hey..who knows..this time huckabee has my vote..

Milton   January 23rd, 2008 4:04 pm ET

Huckabee is OK but there's a much better candidate they don't want you to talk about. Just don't say his name or your post will be trashed. I see mention of McCain, Giuliani and Romney got through.

Dean Clifford   January 23rd, 2008 4:03 pm ET

I see a lot of people posting how Huckabee will take Fla with Thompson gone and Guliani fading fast but what about a certain canidate that goes by Ron Paul. He is the best option in both parties. The man is a strict constitutionalist and has the right ideas on immigration, iraq(How many other candidates voted against the war from the outset??) and especially the economy. In this defining moment, our country desperately needs a man like Ron Paul in office. No longer should America police the world and spend money on a foreign policy that is way out of line and far too expensive. Our currency should have a backing instead of it just being paper that can easily be manipulated by the Fed and government. The economy is desperate for change and my man Ron Paul can do just that. He can change this nation back to what it was, when we were the envy of the world. Ron Paul '08!!!

Amy   January 23rd, 2008 4:02 pm ET

Some of you are so mean spirited. Huckabee is a great man who accomplished great things in Arkansas.

Eric, San Diego   January 23rd, 2008 4:02 pm ET

How can Huckabee endorse himself in the article?

Cantrell   January 23rd, 2008 4:02 pm ET

Only Huckabee can defeat Hiliary!

Mark -Florida   January 23rd, 2008 4:01 pm ET

Good news for Mike Huckabee. He is the most conservative candidate left in the race. With his great conservative platform and excellent communication skills, he should be our next president.

Ted   January 23rd, 2008 4:01 pm ET

Huckabee is undoubtedly the best thing to happen to his party and this country since Ronald Regan. Ed Rollins signed on as his campaign chairman; he advocates the Fair Tax; he has an immaculate sense of ethical character and fair social conservatism; he even has prior experience BEATING the Clinton campaign machine from his days as Governor of Arkansas. Huckabee is the answer to the GOP's prayers, and, as a party, they would be foolish to nominate anyone else.

Kimberly Saphonchak   January 23rd, 2008 3:59 pm ET

I have always admired Duncan Hunter and my opinion of him just shot through the roof. Mike Huckabee is a fine leader who listens to each side of an issue and makes sound judgements for the good of the people. He will make a fime President.

Jonathan   January 23rd, 2008 3:59 pm ET

I was supporting Hunter, but I will definitely vote for Huckabee.

Mike, Fredericksburg, VA   January 23rd, 2008 3:58 pm ET

To Moe:
Huckabee is running second in the national polls, out of 5 candidates. Would make no sense for him to drop out now.

ChrisSpring   January 23rd, 2008 3:58 pm ET

Huckabee is by far the most qualified of the GOP candidates. The big money prefers Romney because he will do their bidding. They do not like Huckabee because they know they cannot control him. Huckabee is our finest.

F Thigpen   January 23rd, 2008 3:58 pm ET

LOOK AT ROMNEY'S RECORD……….HE TALKS OF ADDING JOBS AND COULD NOT EVEN ADD JOBS IN HIS STATE AS GOV,, GIVE ME A BREAK…….HUCK IN 08!!!!!!!!!!

Robert   January 23rd, 2008 3:57 pm ET

Hunter didnt have any support anyways, so it doesnt matter. Romney is going to win the election. In a month people will be saying Mike, who?

Stanley Britt   January 23rd, 2008 3:57 pm ET

Thank You Mr. Duncan Hunter, all your support is welcome in Mike's campaign..I know you have more support than people think and you're very familiar with the illegal immigration problem..Please disregard the previous negative comments, I believe they were Romney supporters..We are needing some help in California, I hope your endorsement will energize your voters..If anybody believes you are soft on Iraq and the war, they're crazy..Again thank you..Mr Hunter

Claire   January 23rd, 2008 3:57 pm ET

Wonder what Ann Coulter will say about her best bud Hunter? She said he was the only true heir to the Reagan legacy…

Paul Thompson   January 23rd, 2008 3:56 pm ET

Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Duncan is the man….

Huckabee Gets It!!!

Chris   January 23rd, 2008 3:55 pm ET

Maybe this will make Limbaugh think twice about making his "Huckabee believes in open borders" accusations. Unbelievable to me that Limbaugh didn't know Huckabee was so strong on the immigration issue. Does this man do any reading on his own – or does he just listen the Romney's attacks? Thanks Duncan Hunter for giving your support to the only true conservative with a chance to take on the Democrat candidate. Great news!

F Thigpen   January 23rd, 2008 3:55 pm ET

HUCKABEE ALL THE WAY…..GREAT NEWS………LOOK AT THE ISSUES PEOPLE ………………….

Jason NYC   January 23rd, 2008 3:54 pm ET

Sure Eric, Huckabee will be President once the wormhole opens and takes him back to his alternate dimension: Where the earth is 6000 years old, the planet was populated by the incestuous decendents of the Adam and Eve and where America was founded as a christian nation.

Santosh-Phila   January 23rd, 2008 3:53 pm ET

The only quality that binds these 2 is protectionism. And the day the GOP becomes a protectionist party (as it was in the 1920's) is a sad day for America. It just seems that except for the educated folks like us that read and understand economics, a lot of Americans just don't understand the necessity of FREE TRADE and that all this talk about "fair trade" is really a sham.

Missmarple   January 23rd, 2008 3:52 pm ET

So Hunter is endorsing the candidate whose loyalty is not to the Consitution of the United States – but to the Consitution of God? Has he been promised the VP slot?

canaan   January 23rd, 2008 3:51 pm ET

Mike Huckabee is perhaps the most charismatic and likable politician America has seen for the last many years. He could easily win against Clinton or Obama in the general election. It is unfortunate for the Republican party, and perhaps for the country, that the elites are conspiring to undermine his candidacy.

Does the Republican establishment not recognize that Romney is unelectable: not only because most people in this country are deeply suspicious of Mormonism, but because he comes across as a flip-flopper and a phony? McCain is perhaps slightly more acceptable to the ruling powers than is Huckabee, but he is a pariah in the eyes of many conservatives, plus he is woefully uncharismatic. And of course, Ghoul-iani is perhaps even less electable than the others.

The best , perhaps the only, chance Republicans have to win the general election is to nominate Huckabee, whose charismatic style could easily convert some Democrats and independents to his cause. Already, African-American church leaders are coming to his support in droves. Duncan Hunter's endorsement should provide a much-needed shot in the arm for Huckabee's faltering campaign.

Scott W SD   January 23rd, 2008 3:48 pm ET

THE HUCKSTER aims to roll back societal values the 1950's. Oh wait – people knew about evolution even in the 50's. Maybe he just wants us to put our heads in the ground and pray!

B   January 23rd, 2008 3:47 pm ET

Curious to know whether those who call the Huckster a bigot or religous nutcase realize he was also just endorsed by various notable African-American leaders which included Rev. William Owens, president of the Coalition of African American Pastors. I think people shouldn't make quick judgments about this man.

The rock   January 23rd, 2008 3:47 pm ET

McCain and Huckabee do not have the credentials of Romney. Romney is the best educated and qualified, business savvy, and executive experienced candidate. Romney has won more states and delegates so far, this should be enough to lift him to national relevance in the polls. If Florida indeed goes for Romney, per the latest poll from Rasmussen, then he gets a nice shot at winning Super Tuesday. Hunter should have thought better about his alliance with Huckabee, for this country needs someone of Romney's caliber to take us out of the looming recession.

Tim - Florida   January 23rd, 2008 3:46 pm ET

Even though Hunter never made a serious dent in the GOP field he is admired by all Republicans because of his staunch Conservative credentials. Huckabee will pick up Hunter supporters (somewhat small), however, this will help bring those on the fence with the other candidates Huckabee's way. Huckabee continues to be the best politician in the GOP field. Nice work, Governor.

Scott W SDCA   January 23rd, 2008 3:46 pm ET

YAWN! Does Hunter think his endorsement means anything? I am not sure anyone knew he was running.

James Brown ( Independent )   January 23rd, 2008 3:45 pm ET

I would vote for Huckabee before i would vote for Clinton………..LOL.

Neil   January 23rd, 2008 3:45 pm ET

Hunter who?

Steve, NY   January 23rd, 2008 3:45 pm ET

Duncan Hunter is a man of unquestioned integrity…..if he thinks this highly of Mike Huckabee, there must be good reason

Moe, NY   January 23rd, 2008 3:44 pm ET

Oh, the Huckster is still in the running? Thought he might have enough common sense to drop out by this time. Oh well, just a matter of time….

Don H.   January 23rd, 2008 3:43 pm ET

Big pick up for Governor Huckabee. This will help him among conservatives. Huckabee seems to still have a very good chance at the nomination.

Bubba, Swainsboro GA   January 23rd, 2008 3:43 pm ET

Character? The character in question is Huckleberry Hound, right? We're trying to get rid of the character in the White House right now, so would we want another one? Face it, Huck & Chuck make a better comedy team than presidential candidates.

David, Oregon City   January 23rd, 2008 3:43 pm ET

Thank you California Rep. Duncan Hunter! You are a great American!

Steve   January 23rd, 2008 3:42 pm ET

Are you serious? Mike Huckabee? Are we talking about the same candidate?

Joelene Reno, Nevada   January 23rd, 2008 3:41 pm ET

WOPPPEEE, Big Deal.

David Price   January 23rd, 2008 3:41 pm ET

Huckabee is the man. With Thomspon gone and Rudy fading, he'll take Florida.
On top of the points, Hunter mentioned, Huckabee has got the best handle on health care issues.

Renaisauce   January 23rd, 2008 3:41 pm ET

What a wonderful and eloquent bid for the vice-presidency. It's unfortunate that he's bidding on a guy who won't ever be able to give him the job. Way to shoot at the wrong buck, Hunter.

Daniel   January 23rd, 2008 3:40 pm ET

this is good news.

Does it Matter?   January 23rd, 2008 3:36 pm ET

Wow! What a score!

Mike IL   January 23rd, 2008 3:35 pm ET

Well that gives Huckabee an extra dozen supporters. Way to go Huck!

Eric   January 23rd, 2008 3:34 pm ET

Joy,
No negatives were mentioned in the article. Come on over and support Huckabee. He's going to be the next president!

bd   January 23rd, 2008 3:34 pm ET

A McCain nomination would negate the largest issue that separates the two parties. It’s the Amnesty Bill of course. This issue will rally the Republican base, and divide the Democrats.

We know the Democrats desperately want the amnesty issue silenced in this election. It is their Achilles heel. John McCain marches in lockstep with the Democrats pushing for illegal alien amnesty. If McCain is the Republican nominee, that issue is null and void.

Huckabee is not even viable.

Lev Klinemann, CA   January 23rd, 2008 3:33 pm ET

I cant believe that there are Californians that voted for this character Hunter.

Dolie, Philadelphia Area   January 23rd, 2008 3:31 pm ET

There is a typo in the first paragraph. The first quoted comment was made by Hunter not by Huckabee, who of course, would not be talking about himself.

Anyway, Hunt-a Hucka whoever….

Barack Obama is the next president of the United States…period.

OBAMA '08!!!!

Joy Greer SC   January 23rd, 2008 3:30 pm ET

So, he thinks that two negatives will make a positive? Nope, still don’t care for the Huckster.
