WASHINGTON (CNN) - California Rep. Duncan Hunter, a former presidential candidate, announced Wednesday he is endorsing Mike Huckabee's White House bid.

“I got to know Governor Huckabee well on the campaign trail,” Hunter said in a statement. “Of the remaining candidates I feel that he is strongly committed to strengthening national defense, constructing the border fence and meeting the challenge of China’s emergence as a military superpower that is taking large portions of America’s industrial base.

"Along with these issues of national security, border enforcement and protecting the U.S. industrial base, I see another quality of Mike Huckabee’s candidacy that compels my endorsement," he added. "Mike Huckabee is a man of outstanding character and integrity. I saw that character over the last year of campaigning and was greatly impressed. The other Republican candidates have many strengths and I wish them all well."

well, not quite. we were staunch supporters of Hunter, incl. donations to his campaign, but we will not support Gov. Huckabee. and we are Baptists, as well. we are not convinced of his sincerity and plan to sit the presidential election out for the first time in our lives. at the polling booth, i will vote for other races, but when i look at the presidential boxes will pray, "Into Thy hands i commit this election, Father". may God save our country.

Hunter had 2% of the Republican vote, that translates into hundreds of thousands of votes (for people who are not only republicans but also would vote in the primaries) that could potentially go to Huckabee. So it is a big deal.

Well if you ask me, Hunter was the most Reagan-esque candidate policy wise.

I will say this to Hunter: he and Tancredo succeeded in making all the other candidates address the immigration issue.

I wish Ron Paul would have the same success with our ridiculously irresponsible monetary policy and our dangerous, wasteful and immoral foreign policy.

I hope Huckabee gets the nomination, because I think he would be easily beaten. The fundamentalist Christian thing makes lots of voters very uncomfortable. I mean, not believing in evolution! Weird! I think religion has no place in the White House. I am tired of the Christian far right dictating policy.

    Ask the Real Mormon Questions?
1.) What do Mormons do in their "Highly Secret Temple" Ceremonies such as Weddings.

2.) Why are the "Ceremonies" so Secret that even blood Relatives not deemed "Worthy" by their local Bishops, (Lay Clergy Males) are not allowed to witness the event?

3.) What remotely mainstream Church does not Welcome Visitors of all faiths or no faith, to their celebrations?

4.) Do you want a President of the United States who subscribes to a creed whose dictates he can not share?
Are any of the other Candidates so Burdened?

Well Thompson is out, Hunter is out, now Paul needs to be out of there. The world would laugh at us if we elected someone like Ron Paul. He is so quirky.

All of these Huckabee supporters coming out of the woodwork... I wouldn't be surprised if they're a few people signing on with different names over and over again, or a blogging bee in the basement of some church. The voting numbers don't lie, though. Like Hunter, he, too, is going down.

Duncan Hunter is a good man and knows of what he speaks. I hope he runs for Governor. We would wholeheartedly support him too!

Mike Huckabee, is, as Duncan Hunter says, a man or character and integrity. Duncan sees it and knows it's true. And this is something we need in a president!

Thank you so much for supporting Governor Huckabee!

Hell yes!!! I now wonder what all the conservative talk show hosts will have to say now? They all seemed to respect Duncan Hunter very much especially Laura Ingrahm but dissed Huckabee every chance she got. I hope this will shut them the hell up. Keep doing your think Huckabee!!!!

Despite your negative blogs and media, Mike Huckabee still is a man of integrity, faith as he stands by principles such as opposing same sex marriage and abortion. He protects the unborn. This country is Godless and we know it. We are a arrogant people who think that all that we have is by the making of our own hands not realizing that it is God who first blessed this country and made it to be what it is. We ask where is God when Katrina hits and fires run rampant, men dropping their children off of bridges, incest, pornography etc. Well we also have to ask where are we when we want God out of our schools, public office and shame people (like Mike Huckabee) who stand by their faith. Yes God may have perhaps left us to our own arrogant devices so Godless we stand.

I am in Florida and there is some definite support down here for Huckabee. I have to admit, I was concerned about a pastor running for president, but after looking into the facts, records, and watching debates I am very excited about Huckabee. GO MIKE!!

I did not see the first comment that Duncan Hunter and Mike Huckabee both support and promote the Fair Tax. The Fair Tax would replace the Federal Income Tax meaning you would be taxed on what you spend on new goods and services and not on what you earn or invest. The federal government would no longer control how you spend, save or give away your money. Duncan Hunter's endorsement is appreciated. Mike Huckabee is a good candidate for President. If you go to mikehuckabee.com and actually look at where he stands on the issues, you will see what I mean. Fred Thompson gave him a bad rap in the SC debates when he jumped on the Gitmo issue, because the Chief of the Military Admiral Mike Mullen was saying we need to shut Guantanamo down because of negative publicity during the same time period. I still believe we should keep the prisoner in Gitmo isolated and not bring them to the states. Mike Huckabee is the best choice. What we need to do is enforce our current laws and replace the IRS with the Fair Tax.

Why is it that Huckabee supporters call themselves conservatives.
Conservative bulwark Duncan Hunter calls Huckabee conservative.

But all these talk show hosts with a business relationship to Bain Capital call him liberal? And Duncan Hunter couldn't see that?

Talk radio fans, wake up, like I did. You are being fed a distorted version of reality!

Mike Huckabee is a disgrace and a step in the wrong direction for America. A vote for Huckabee is a vote for the unification of church and state. The United States of Iran.

As Conservatives in this country ( both Paleo and Social ), we must start looking at the past fruits of each candidates labor. It is easy to call oneself a " Conservative ", but it is a totally different story to actually vote and govern as a " Conservative ". Each of the Republican candidates calls themselves a conservative, but just saying it does not make it so. Ron Paul is the only true Conservative( both Paleo and social ) in this race. I am not saying this because of what I saw on a debate, a campaign commercial, or TV political commentary. I say this because of how Ron Paul has voted in Congress over the past years and on the legislation Dr. Paul has sponsored. This presidential race is far too important to make a decision based on punch lines and one- liners. We as freedom loving Conservatives and all voters for that matter, must do some research on these candidates before casting a vote. It is our responsibility as voters to be informed before pulling that lever. Our beloved Rebublic could be at stake. Her are four examples of legislation that Dr. Paul introduced during this past 110th congress ( 1. H.R. 1094 – Sanctity of Life Act of 2007 – , 2. H.R 1096 – Second Amendment Protection Act of 2007-, 3. H.R. 1146 – American Sovereignty Restoration Act of 2007(To end membership of the United States in the United Nations)). As conservatives we must research the issues for ourselves and not rely on talk show hosts and the news media. God Bless America.
