Obama hits Clinton back in new radio ad

The Obama campaign is debuting an attack radio ad of its own.
The Obama campaign is debuting an attack radio ad of its own.

DILLON, South Carolina (CNN) - Hours afterDemocrat Hillary Clinton launched a radio ad throughout South Carolina criticizing chief rival Barack Obama for comments he made in reference to the Republican party, the Illinois senator's campaign announced they'll be launching their own ad in response.

Clinton's spot highlights a portion of Obama's recent interview with the Reno Journal-Gazette in which the Illinois senator said in part, "The Republicans were the party of ideas for a pretty long chunk of time there over the last 10, 15 years."

"Really? Aren’t those the ideas that got us into the economic mess we’re in today?" a narrator asks.

Though not yet on the air, Obama's radio ad includes the claim that the New York senator is the bearer of "false attacks" and "will say anything to get elected."

"Obama 'did not say that he liked the ideas of Republicans," the announcer continues. "But it was Hillary Clinton, in an interview with Tom Brokaw, who quote 'paid tribute' to Ronald Reagan’s economic and foreign policy."

"She championed NAFTA – even though it has cost South Carolina thousands of jobs. And worst of all, it was Hillary Clinton who voted for George Bush’s war in Iraq."

The ad closes with the announcer saying, "She'll say anything and change nothing. It's time to turn the page."

The campaign said the spot will begin airing "in the next 24 hours" depending on how quickly media markets are able to add it to their rotation of advertisements.

Sigh: I gues the candidate of "change" isn't so much about change as about playing the usual political games.

But seriously people, this is politics. They are both going to do whatever they can to get elected. If you think Obama is some paragon of virtue that won't stoop to the same political maneuvers as others, then you are sadly mistaken. This man is from IL, known for it's nasty politics.

Well said Canada eh! You have echoed what the world feels about the American electorate.

And just so you know...over here we all live in one-roomed thatched cottages with a herd of cattle at one end to keep us warm and a colony of leprechauns at the bottom of the garden. No electric, never heard of the internet... **LOL**

Senator Obama has been calling Senator Clinton names from the beginning.

His negative campaigning has been a mainstay for him. Politics of HOPE, what a joke!

I wish she hadn't gotten down in the gutter with him, but I guess that is still what politics in America is all about.

As one pundit said recently "pot meet kettle".

These are the politics of change and hope?
This is the way Obama brings people together?
This man is a dispicable human being. It is Obama who will do and say anything to get elected.

Barack Obama ia an honorable man. When the Clintons attacked he stayed above it as long as possible. The attacks kept coming. I live in NH and right before the primary I received (along with every other Democrat and Independent in NH) absolutely false information on a flyer in the mail from the Hillary Clinton campaign about Barack Obama. It was signed by 3 female members of the NH House of Representatives. These 3 women are now saying that they never should have signed the flyer because the information was false. (If you don't believe me check it out for yourself at WMUR.com) Barack Obama has no choice but to defend himself. Is Hillary Clinton the kind of person you want to be running this country? Don't you think we've had enough of this "George W. Bush" behavior? I think so. Barack Obama has my vote.

The Clintons need to stop causing trouble and if Obama don't respond the people will think it to be true. The Clintons plays unfair I wish Obama would not respond to the Clintons's attacks. and on the other hand if Obams doesn't respond the voter will think it is the truth. The Clintons want to be elected so bad untill they will stop at nothing.

Obamas has been crying since he lost every primary since Iowa, where 17yr olds ( who cant vote in general election) and Bill Richardson supporters put him over the top, otherwise he would have lost there too. The media has told the country that SC is a racist black only vote. So why would anyone other than the only 1/2 black candidate stay there. John Edwards is wasting his time in SC per the media. I don't think that ALL SC voters are as racist and nieve as the media wants to portray them. Its an attempt to help Obama because his camp has made fools of the media. It took voters and an ex-president to bring his terrible senste record, bush/chaney backing, republican lovin, lack of good judgement and inexperience out in the open when the media tried to hide it. Frankly we are tired of obama crying! If he crashes so quickly becuase hes getting caught with corrupt campagining funds with Rezko etc... what would he do when foriegn leaders come at him? run crying too, or call oprah for help? ...Just what we cannot afford to take a chance on. Giving pre-written church speechs does not make a President. and having his wife, Michelle Obama stumping throwing out racial comments is disgusting! No one sees her as first lady material, we dont even see her as a lady! No one was crying when obama camp was attacking Hillary? and ALL the media treating her unfairly. She has proven that she is a strong leader after all the attacks she has endured and over come. Thank God the voters are smarter than the media and obama give them credit for. DONT WASTE VOTES ON OBAMAS, WE DONT NEED A RACIST IN THE WHITE HOUSE

Hillary Clinton is such a fraud. Thank God Obama is standing up to the Queen of Mean. She's just mad because the nomination wasn't handed to her. Obama has to fight both the Clintons and that is NOT FAIR! They want to be co-president...Is it never about Bill? Hillary supporters if you don't get that..you truly are blind.

Best Hillary quote to date..the Obama campaign has filed a complaint against the Clintons' campaign in the Nevada primary. Her advice to her campaign workers,

"It's not illegal unless they tell you so." – Hillary Rodham Clinton

Priceless...and a preview of things to come in ANOTHER Clinton White House.

Obama, the great uniter, say what? I am glad these types of ads come out because people can see that Obama is just like the Washingtion establishment he claims he wants to change. He is a politician, no better than Hillary. Now we are all seeing the truth, finally. Yet, the media will try to help Obama spin it into the notion that he has to do this because Hillary is such a bad woman.

If everyone is realistic, they can go back to the beginning of the campaign and see that Obama or his supporters started all of the name calling. Hillary has the right to defend herself; and now Obama is out in the open instead of being covert as he tried to be in the beginning.

I love this political season. One of the best in a long time.

The Media support the CLINTONS and ask the CLINTONS to critisize them. As if nobody will understand. All substantive things go the CLINTONS' way and the others the Obama's way.

Hillary (and Bill's) recent antics are the exact reason we need real change in Washington. It's obvious she has no substance and vision to offer the American people, otherwise we'd be hearing about it. Go Obama!

This could have been a fairly reasonable election cycle if dah dude dat speaks in paragraphs, I'm sorry, books, would have bothered to get some experience before he decided to further divide America along racial lines...

My theory: I believe the Clintons had this whole Presidential race planned before Pres. Clinton left office. In his disgraceful moment with that White House Aide, he lost it. He lost the power to think for himself as soon as he got caught. No woman in her right mind would stand by her man without some sort of retribution! Hillary Clinton got hers. She must have told him that since he wanted to act like a man of dishonor he should use his talents to work for her! So what did she do? She established herself a seat in Washington. She sent Bill out to the area that would do her the most good and get the votes she needs….Harlem. What better way to work up some votes than to put him to work for her and gather as much African American votes as possible! Next, she decides to run for the Presidency. Mystery is solved. I think not. Plan is more like it. Of course he does care about getting out there and campaigning for her. He had better. He owes her big time. I call it shrewd and cunning on her part. Is she really willing to work for the people like she says? I think not. It is all about power. Here is a woman scorned in front of all the world to see. She needs to get her dignity back and what better way than to make him work for her. One problem came up. Barack Obama. She did not count on an African American running against her. So what does she do?She pulls the race card on Obama that way the eyes are off of what she really did….put the former president of the US out on front street.

I find it sad that Obama has to spend his time refuting the Clinton lies rather than talking about the issues that concern America. The two parties in Washington have spent the past 15 years (hmmm...who was president then?) fighting against each other rather than working together to get things done. It's time for the people of this country to wake up and elect a president who can do away with the US vs THEM mentality of our government. And that candidate certainly isn't the one who repeatedly states "I am most qualified to fight the Republicans".

Obama is like any other person running for office, I remember when he was behind, all the pundid kept saying he had to go negative- why is it ok for him but not the Clintons, seems like a double standard to me. All the media act if we have to treat him with kid gloves because he black, everything is always turns into race. Sorry I vote for the best person that has experience. He is just to thin skin. What is he going to do when the the other side start attacking him, They are really going to tear him apart and he will be crying like a baby. Go Hillary!

As I said many times, dont generalize people. I am voting for Hillary not Bill!. So no matter how much you hate Bill, it doesnt matter, Hillary is running. Who's to say Bill was a president and Hillary was behind the whole thing telling Bill what to do or the other way around.. Stop with the stupid conspiracy theories you Pro-Obama-ers have towards the Clintons.

And for James and all Republicans out there, whoever gets the nomination of the 3 Democratic candidates, they will kick any of the Republican candidates easily, whoever it is. and FYI, Bush didnt get popular votes in 2004, but he won. And as far as I know, Bill is a former president when you claim he didn't get as much vote as Al Gore or Kerry. And apparently they both didnt get a chance to be a president unline Bill... so i think the record speak for itself...
