WASHINGTON (CNN) - A third straight poll shows Republicans Mitt Romney and John McCain neck-and-neck in the Florida primary race, with Rudy Giuliani in the third spot.

In a just released MSNBC/McClatchey/Mason Dixon poll, Romney drew 30 percent of support among likely Republican Primary voters while John McCain drew 26 percent. Given the poll’s 5 point margin of error, the two candidates are statistically tied ahead of the state's vot next Tuesday.

Rudy Giuliani, who has focused almost entirely on Florida for the past few weeks, is at 18 percent, and Mike Huckabee has 13 percent.

The poll surveyed 400 likely Republican voters and was conducted January 22-23.

Mac,I agree!!! I still hang there,it isn't over yet!!! We NEED Rudy!!!!

Jan   January 29th, 2008 12:17 am ET

I love Guiliani and plan to vote for him. I am very disapointed in his campaign because he should be a front runner. I am voting for him and hope he will make a come back.

Mac   January 26th, 2008 12:59 pm ET

If Rudy drops out of the race after florida, the GOP is doomed for in November. Romney and Mccain will be chewed up and spit out by the Clintons. Romney stands on a very fragile foundation with not much to rely on as real positive changes and experience. Mccain has no issues to contrast Hillary with but Iraq and with Economic being the hot topic of the day, Mccain will surely loose against Hillary. The Dems are already winning their greatest general election battle...and that is to eliminate Rudy. Rudy is the only real threat..why? he is the only candidate who have run one of the largest governement/city in the world using concrete, consistent conversative principles and produced great results. The clintons ideology fight will not stand against Rudy because he can wave the conservative principles as the foundation for his leadership to show how great the results were. Hillary has nothing that can match that sort of claim. I have not lived this long to be fooled by soundbites and media coverage. Rudy is the obvious smart candidate and I am rooting for him next week. God Bless.

Roger from MA   January 24th, 2008 11:47 pm ET

Actually, Todd, given the margin of error in this poll, they are neck-and-neck. Don't let facts get in the way of your argument, though.

Joseph Moss   January 24th, 2008 8:32 pm ET

GO ROMNEY!!!!

JB   January 24th, 2008 7:56 pm ET

Lots of New Yorkers come to Florida at this time of year. I don't vote for any of them, either. Go Romney.

FLORIDA – YOU'RE NEXT!!!

Rick Miami, FL   January 24th, 2008 7:20 pm ET

Ron Paul 2nd in Nevada, and what an amazing person, Everyone should browse his name under wikipedia, just to read about his family, education and early life. They don' t make individuals like him anymore. He saw patients without cost, because he doesnt believe in government subsidized care. He gives back part of his salary every year, He was a physician in the MILITARY also VETS. He wants to bring troops around the world back to America to cut costs and start putting money back where it belongs in America. HE WANTS TO TAKE CARE OF OUR OWN HERE IN AMERICA, its about time we start cleaning up our own house before we go messing up other countries.

I THINK AMERICA WILL START PAYING ATTENTION TO RON PAUL. I HOPE MY FELLOW FLORIDIANS ALREADY DO.

Jared C.- in Korea   January 24th, 2008 7:04 pm ET

Romney is pulling ahead in Florida in the polls... he will continue to do so and will win Florida. He will be the nominee! We support you overseas.

He has the experience, leadership, and morals we need to lead us.

Mitt is the man!

Romney 2008!

McKay   January 24th, 2008 6:49 pm ET

Our country has two main problems right now that are critical – a mismanaged war and a mismanaged economy. While Romney can handle the economy and McCain can handle the war, all Guiliani has shown is that he can clean up the mess after the destruction. While that is an admirable skill, let's face it – we all want to turn it around BEFORE the crisis. The war in Iraq isn't critical because there was no military expertise – America has an abundance of military knowledge – it is in the hole because of mismanagement of that power. America's economy is in the same hole because of mismanagement. What we need, before the dire crisis is a manager who is successful turning things around before the crash.

Wonder who can do that? Anyone see the Olympics????

Where management is the problem, ROMNEY is the only answer.

Jonathan   January 24th, 2008 6:48 pm ET

Actually, THREE polls were released today, all showing Mitt Romnsey on top.

Rasmussen 1/23/08 Guiliani 20 Huckabee15 McCain 23 Paul 4 Romney 27
InsiderAdvantage 1/23/08 Guiliani18 Huckabee16 McCain22 Paul 4Romney 23
Mason-Dixon 1/21-23/08 Guiliani18 Huckabee13 McCain26 Paul 3 Romney 30

Thank you Florida!
Go MITT!

rat8cat   January 24th, 2008 6:39 pm ET

I think Ron Paul would be our best bet. However, that isn't going to happen. Everyone ignores him. The media, the other candidates. Never saw such disrespect shown a person like they (media & candidates) did Mr. Paul during the Fox debate. All these candidates promise, promise promise. What I want to know is how as President will they get anything done with the lousy Congress we have. That is where the problems are. Seems to me the President (whomever he/she is) it's the Congress that has to make the changes needed in this country.
Ron Paul gets my vote in the primary. Wouldn't vote for Hillary if she were the only person running. Obama isn't going to change anything. He hasn't the political power to do anything. He will just be a stooge for the Democrats in Congress Wouldn't vote for anyone with a name of Obama anyway.

Ian   January 24th, 2008 6:28 pm ET

Have you seen the Daily Show clip of Rudy incorporating 9-11 into his speach on the economy? Check it out on Youtube, it's pretty funny.

Nick from Nashville   January 24th, 2008 5:08 pm ET

It is a real shame how cnn and other news channels discredit ron paul. I guarantee you if ron paul had received equal coverage throughout the whole campaign he would be winning these polls.

And to all of you republicans who hate democrats just because that's what you've been taught your whole life and you haven't been properly educated due to a serious education problem that we have in this country...Ron Paul is the only republican that will be able to defeat the democrats this year.

I hate you CNN. you're no better than faux or any other news channel.

Todd   January 24th, 2008 5:05 pm ET

Typical of CNN to use old, out-dated polling data–especially when it is in favor of CNN's favorite for the Republican nomination: McCain. This even though current polling data shows McCain behind Romney in the Florida race:
Florida: Romney 27% McCain 23%
Source: Rasmussen Reports, 01/24/08
CNN always uses old poll data as supposedly current news.

Cedie   January 24th, 2008 5:05 pm ET

Perhaps Rudy will now spend some time dealing with what, for him, is a larger issue than politics of any kind: healing the hurt he has caused to his ex-wife and children. Since Republicans are so stuck to moralistic platitudes I have a question and a staement mayor rude should consider. The Question, "(Genesis 44:34) How can I go back to my father if the boy is not with me? No! Do not let me see the misery that would come upon my father.” The statement, (Genesis 33:13) But Jacob said to him, “My lord knows that the children are tender and that I must care for the ... young. If they are driven hard just one day, all ... will die." Since he has always place his own selfish ambitions before anything or anyone else Rudy has blood on his hands that he has to account for.

Jeff, Huntington Beach, CA   January 24th, 2008 5:00 pm ET

Thank God Rudy's going down in flames. Now we just have to do away with Mitt (look at that hair) Romney. He is about as slimy and shallow as they come.
survey says...?

Farrell, Houston, Tx   January 24th, 2008 4:57 pm ET

Chris, Middletown, CT   January 24th, 2008 4:54 pm ET

Funny....he is the only moderate running....and yet....not doing well....people are even considering voting for a mandated healthcare socialist

Cyrus Z   January 24th, 2008 4:50 pm ET

Giuliani should be ashamed for invoking 9/11 in every political comment. Did 9/11 define him as a leader or was he a leader before that? What kind of leader was he? Don't listen to polls and lobbyists, just ask New Yorkers and you will see how they feel about him.

If Florida elects another fear-mongering pseudo-leader, we are going to hand it over to the Cubans.

Todd   January 24th, 2008 4:48 pm ET

Oh come on CNN. 30% for Romney and 26% McCain is not 'neck-and-neck'. Why doesn't CNN just admit it, CNN likes McCain because he is a liberal. Romney is kicking but, he has the most delegates, and RNC delegates are not about to vote for liberal McCain.

CC   January 24th, 2008 4:00 pm ET

I'm Republican and conservative, but I can see excellent qualities/points in all of the candidates–both Rep and Dem. (Yes, I can see some negative qualities/points in each as well!) I've decided there is NO perfect candidate, so we will have to find the BEST....whichever party.... to HELP this country.

There is a WHOLE list of situations in our country which need to be addressed. We NEED someone who can handle a multiplicity of concerns. It's not just about abortion or Iraq, about gay rights or 9/11, about race, sex, religion or the economy. It's about all of those PLUS much more.

It is necessary for us to find someone who is the BEST qualified....regardless of party lines....to handle the issues in a CREATIVE, NEW and HONEST way. This person must not be concerned with his OWN EGO more than the BEST way for ALL. This person must be intelligent enough to pull together teams that while voicing differing views can work for the COMMON GOOD of all of us. I love the common sense statement: "We cannot solve current problems by using the same level of thinking that created them." We need someone with FRESH and new ideas.

Let's all put egos, prejudices and partisianship aside and look for the BEST–not perfect, but BEST- that can bring a NEW LEVEL of problem solving to lead our country!

W B in Las Vegas   January 24th, 2008 3:53 pm ET

I think the "Driving Ms. Judy" scandal did serious harm to Rudy's campaigne esp with "Moral Majority" voters that already did not trust him on other "conservative" issues. a multimillionair Mayor using public funds to chauffeur around the woman that he was cheating on his second wife with was probably the last straw for then and many others in the Republican party. it showed his total arrogance and lack of both ethics and morals.

Renaisauce   January 24th, 2008 3:53 pm ET

My question is, after Romney wins the presidency, will McCain run again in 8 years, when he's 80? They do say that third time's the charm. Eventually] you'd think he'd get it down pat.

Darth Vadik, CA   January 24th, 2008 3:49 pm ET

This is great news.

Giuliani is a part of the Norman Podhoretz neocon team.
Podhoretz type people should not be allowed within 2000 miles of Washington, some really scary stuff.

With a tyrannt type personality of Giuliani and the ideas of Norman Podhoretz, this world would be scarier than 1984.

Patty D.   January 24th, 2008 3:35 pm ET

Rudy has no chance because all he is riding on is fear. And the commercial with the 911 images was low. It is either McCain and Romney. Kind of sad aint it?

Gordo   January 24th, 2008 3:33 pm ET

You won't be missed by many when you go Rudy. Have a nice (after)life. Now, if only the media would open up to the fact that REAL Republicans (read conservative base) are supporting Mitt Romney, they could stop annointing Sen. McCain as the greatest thing the GOP has ever seen. This is LUDICROUS!!!! Sen. McCain is many things, sincere, caring and a true hero, but he is not a REPUBLICAN despite the appearance of the ( R ) after his name every time I see it. Ditto for Gov. Huckabee. Now that Fred and Rudy are gone, that really only leaves 2 choices for REPUBLICANS, Mitt Romney and Ron Paul. I really don't think either one would be a bad choice. Funny how the cream will rise to the top, don't you think? What a GREAT COUNTRY we live in where we get to make the choices. We decide what issues are important to us and how we will best be represented. AMERICA ROCKS!!!!

AR1LY   January 24th, 2008 3:26 pm ET

One of these men (woman) is going to be elected this year to be the President of the United States. Should we really be calling them all these names? Is there any respect left in this country?

I prefer President Obama – and according to the polls, so do more Americans.

VOTE DEMOCRATIC!!!

AJ, IL   January 24th, 2008 2:56 pm ET

You are wrong jose botelho....

The Republicans fear Obama and Edwards the most with the emphasis on Obama. The Republicans know that they can rally its party around the IDEA of rejecting Hillary (and Bill) Clinton. The Republicans know what dirt they can use against Hillary because she and bill have have 25 years of it. What this does is push the general election into a more even split of 43% Republican vote to 43% Democratic vote with the Independents deciding who will the general election. McCain has already demostrated in the past 4 contests that he can pull in Independent voters. In a McCain vs Hillary contest, McCain has the advantage if he can stay healthy long enough.

On the other hand, an Obama candidacy forces the Republican Party to rethink its campaign tactics. It they go all out and attack Obama like a Clinton, they know it could backfire and more Independents would flock to Obama, especially with Obama's stump speech emphasizing change, unity, and solidarity as a country.

Glen, Boston, MA   January 24th, 2008 2:50 pm ET

He could always physically attack his rival candidates. That seems to be his solution to everything.

Of course, all attacks are driven by fear – and Rudy wallows in it.

Say what you will about the electoral process, it goes on long enough to really see who these people are.

That's why McCain and Obama are rising. That would be a great match up, indeed.

Rexis   January 24th, 2008 2:41 pm ET

I think Rudy Giuliani should drop out after Florida if he does not succed (and he likely will not). Then he should play the Joker in the new Batman movie.

AJ, Iowa City, IA   January 24th, 2008 2:39 pm ET

Mitt Romney '08!!! Economic savior!!

Carson   January 24th, 2008 2:38 pm ET

Ron Paul is the only candidate with enough integrity, experience, and economic knowledge to lead this country out of debt. Not to mention he is a physician who is all to familiar with the problems we face in health care. Two huge issues that the other candidates just don't have the background to solve.

PRESIDENT RON PAUL its coming on

jose botelho   January 24th, 2008 2:37 pm ET

I wonder why the republicants want Obama as the democratic designee.....here's the answer, untested, unproven and no one knows what he stands for.
Hillary, will be their worst nightmare.Remember Bill? here we come again!

rodlang   January 24th, 2008 2:26 pm ET

McCain would be the toughest republican to beat but the Limbaugh/Hannity types are too stupid to figure it out. They'll go with flip-flopper Mitt. They figure they can control him like they did with Dubya.

Jim in Orlando, FL   January 24th, 2008 2:23 pm ET

3rd straight .. 4th straight ... who's counting ? The final poll here on the 29th will show the obvious, that Rudy lost the big MO, all through fault of his own. Now he can consult on "How not to run a campaign."

G in Ohio   January 24th, 2008 2:20 pm ET

What is he doing? The only place he campaigns is in Florida? That is strange.

Chris   January 24th, 2008 2:20 pm ET

What these polls have been showing is that the Republican Party is split between two candidates Sen. McCain and Gov. Romney. Romney is trending up and with the focus on the economy tonight's debate is critical too who will be awarded Florida's 57 delegates. Romney is the one most Republican's seem to trust with their money. McCain seems to be trying to change his tune from the War surge to the economy. Will it be enough, Romney has the organization, money, delegate lead by 2 to 1 and is surging in FLORIDA. Only time will tell this is very interesting.

brian   January 24th, 2008 2:04 pm ET

Hey, Ron Paul is stil in the race, right? How high did he poll, CNN? I am a former Bill Richardson supporter, so I know what it is like to not get covered, but this is bordering on insanity? I would like to be able to follow ALL the candidates, not just the ones you choose. Especially when he just got the silver in NV and LA.

Nelson, Colorado Springs Co   January 24th, 2008 2:03 pm ET

Mr. Rudy Giuliani will lose in florida then he will give it up. I don't know but Mr Rumney will win Florida. But super tuesday mite be a difference story. America is looking for a man for President, if Mr Rumney was a christian religion faith not mormon christian faith he would win the president easy. this also a form of racism for religion. "Look at on your money It says In god we trust" it don't name a religion to trust in. Go Huckabee

T   January 24th, 2008 2:02 pm ET

Good! I'm glad Rudy is down in the polls, he's not a broad based Republican anyway. Think about it, he's more a liberal on social issues than some Dems, and social conservatives in the South and Mid-west won't even show up at the polls if this RHINO wins the nomination. Anyone but Hillary, I mean Rudy, wait, they're basically the same, right?

HT Springer   January 24th, 2008 2:02 pm ET

Romney is on a roll. McCain is a grumpy old "go-wth-the-flow" Washington beaurocrat. I can't wait to see McCain's concession on Jan. 29. I wonder what excuse he'll give this time.
Go, Mitt!

The NY Times wrote recently about Rudy Guliani. He is a total bully and sore loser when it come to anybody crossing him. He has not tried to work with anyone! He has wrecked sereal lives because somebody stood up to him. We don’t need bullying in Washington! If you think about it, he only has experience in being a Mayor. Is he really trying to jump up to being president?

McCain is not a Republican. There are reasons that the retirement age is 65. He will be seven years beyond that if he is elected. He was a courageous war hero, we all give him that. That doesn’t give him the qualifications to go and be president.

Romney is the canidate to vote for. He is organized, experienced, caring, family values, well balanced, and most importantly different from anything Washington has ever seen. He has the experience that is going to get our country out of this crisis we are in. In MA, he made it a priority to make sure that he fulfilled all of his campaign promises. He has done it before, he will do it again. Get behind the one canidate that can get it done... MITT ROMNEY!

Rick   January 24th, 2008 1:32 pm ET

The whole idea from Rudy was that Florida is so like New York. He has our number right? People from that state move here, like the Yankees and miss the snow right? It just isn't so anymore. While it is true many who now live in Florida are transplanted New Yorker's, like myself, we all remember how we were rolled over by the Republican machine in 2000 and 2004.

Florida isn't the south. It's Florida... a mix of everything from northerner's and natives. After 21 years of living here, I still laugh when I see the bumper sticker that reads, "We don't care how you do it up north!" ...with a directional arrow pointing to I-95 north. In other words, go back home Rudy.
