Hillary Clinton is campaigning in South Carolina Friday.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Hillary Clinton said Friday she must respond in kind to attacks from rival Barack Obama even though she'd rather keep the race for the Democratic presidential nomination focused on their differences on public policy issues.

"I try not to attack first, but I have to defend myself — I do have to counterpunch," Clinton told NBC's "Today Show."

"I took a lot of incoming fire for many, many months and I was happy to absorb it because obviously, you know, I felt that was part of my responsibility. But toward the end of a campaign you have to set the record straight," the New York senator and former first lady said.

Clinton, Obama and their campaigns have exchanged increasingly hard-hitting jabs in recent days over race, his relationship with a Chicago developer, her vote on the Iraq war, and other issues.

"I have tried to make it clear that this election has to be about the future," Clinton said. "It is perfectly legitimate to draw comparisons and contrasts. I think both Senator Obama and I have made it clear we do want to focus on what we each would do for our country. It has been obviously an incredibly intense campaign. … But I do want to make it clear that our campaigns have to stay focused on what you know the legitimate differences are so we can give voters information."

Senator Clinton showed the media yesterday that she can face challenges with courage and grace. She did not run blaming the other guy. We have given men enough opportunity in history to do the job. Now we need a woman, not any woman , but this one in particular. Ms. Clinton, intelligent and wise.

To those that are looking for that sense of beautiful words I remind you that words without actions mean nothing. All my admiration and respect for our next president:Hillary Clinton.

In reading these posts, I notice that approximately 70% of pro-Clinton comments are women. If you genuinely believe what you're saying, that's fine. You're entitled to vote however you please. However, I do hope that you aren't supporting Clinton because of her gender. As a young woman, that is offensive to me and I would like to think that we've moved beyond that.

**** YET 80% OF THE AFRICAN AMERICAN VOTERS IN SC CAST THEIR BALLOTS FOR BARACK OBAMA BECAUSE HE IS BLACK!! DO YOU FIND THAT OFFENSIVE AS WELL??

A very interesting news program discussed the racial and gender issue with a group of African American women in SC. One lady said, Obama has her heart, while Hillary has her head. AND they all agreed that if Obama were to be President they would be elated, and if Hillary were to win the Presidency they would be content.

Even the Rev. Jesse Jackson's wife, Jacqueline is supporting Hillary stating "Women are used to making difficult choices, but this is easy because it’s about what’s best for our families.”

Rep. James Clyburn noted that several Republican women had commented to him that they would vote for Hillary if she wins the nomination!

Caroline Kennedy has recently supported Obama - it would seem that he has her heart too as she was too young to remember much of her father's Presidency. JFK not only inspired but had the experience behind him after being a WWII Naval Commander, and serving in both the House and the Senate. Obama should stop distorting AND CHILDLISHLY MOCKING Hillary's experience. Her full quote was "I have 35 years of experience WORKING FOR CHANGE."

AND apparently she should start tooting her own horn louder than Barack honks his. After she graduated from law school, she joined the Children's Defense Fund and had devoted her life to the cause of children and womens' rights in America and around the world.

Carol Moseley Braun who ran for President in 2004, has been quoted as relating that she faced less prejudice because of her race than she did because of her gender :( Sexism is so insidious in America that most sheeple (even women themselves) don't even realize nor recognize the fact - they just accept it as a way of life… forever at the back of the line.

The South Carolina primary proved to be an overwhelming win for Senator Obama.
He has earned and received support from a broad demographic spectrum, not only in Iowa, New Hampshire, and Nevada, but in SouthCarolina as well.

Most Americans are too intelligent to buy into the racially infused nonsense that has been drugged into this campaign mostly by the Clintons, and prolonged by the media.
.
Thankfully, dirty political tactics have backfired. And, hundreds of thousands of people are seeing the Clintons for who and what they really are - power hungry, shameless Washingtonians

Senator Obama has won South Carolina, inspite of the hateful Clinton tactics. He currently holds the largest number of earned delagates and is leading, ahead of Clinton and Edwards. Senator Obama has recently won the support of of Caroline and Ted Kennedy, with more creditible endorsements to come.
He has earned my Vote-

Obama and Opera given a combination of a civil-rights and campaign rally , stacking the deck against Hillary in S. Carolina. Months before Hillary got to S. Caroline. Opera said. “ Dr. King dreamed a dream, now vote his dream” to thousands of African Americans. In fact, Hillary is the best chance they have for Dr. King dreams to come true, with her Big Club Bill at her side.

She is the one attacking Obama, and I hate being lied to.

QUIT Being so nasty Obama supporters! You are really sounding very childish and down right rude! Run for president if you think you can do better! AND if he gets the nomination….lets see how much he has changed in about 2 years?

Another bold-faced lie from McCain. Romney did not call for an immediate withdrawal from Iraq. As usual McCain does not listen. He just rambles on.

Well my post from 14 1/2 hours ago is still waiting Moderation! I wonder could it be that I wasn't singing praises for Obama? Let's be fair CNN. I took time and gave serious thought to my posting. I know I'm just a Canuck but aren't you interested in the opinions from other Nations? I tune you in on Cable which ups your ratings doesn't it?

And sometime those further away and neutral can see the situation more clearly than those who are up front and personal. But as you wish.

Allan Camden, SC   January 26th, 2008 2:15 pm ET

Sorry, Hillary. I follow this stuff closely, and there is no question you started the mud-slinging. There was a time when I would have voted enthusiastically for either you or Obama, but now, although I will vote for the Democratic Party no matter what, you are about to destroy any good-will there was between the candidates. You are running for the office, not Bill. So tell him to start acting like a statesman instead of a hatchet man.

Amy in Cincinnati   January 26th, 2008 1:45 pm ET

BILL IS NOT RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT!!

I can't believe you'd vote for Hillary because of what her husband did while he was in office. Unfortunately, I think you represent a very misguided but sizeable population of the US. God help us all.

Obamas camp underhandedly started the fight by letting loose with 14 page e-mails to the media which Obama stated he new nothing about it. During the early debates he had facial, under the belt ,sly comments about Hillary. They say all fair in love, war and politics. He now uses the sympathy card to have Aferican Americans vote for him. They both distort facts. One is no better then the other. Michelle Obama gives as well as Bill Clinton. The both stand up for their spouses. One has to look beyond the pettiness and judge them on experiences and how they will solve the issues facing all Americans.

Rose   January 26th, 2008 9:57 am ET

She has taken hits from Obama, Edwards, Dodd, Biden and their wives. Why is it OK for them to gang up on her, but, when she or Bill defend themselves it's not right. The pundits have a field day on Hillary and former President Clinton. He has done a great job bringing the truth to the American people but the Media would rather focus on Bill calling him an attack dog and disregard the truth. It's media and gender bias of which I have never seen the likes of. I say, keep the debates going and if fights bring forth the truth about someone we may never have known, it's worth it.

Christine, Burke, VA   January 26th, 2008 9:28 am ET

I detest this notion that Democrats should vote for Hillary only because she can win in November. This is a huge problem for the Democratic party, and it's why people like me have grown disgusted with it. In November, when faced with choosing between two evils (Clinton and Romney — oh my God, how bad can it get?), I will not vote at all rather than demean the only power I have in this very UNDEMOCRATIC process. This nation needs another revolution, not another election!

Spinmaster   January 26th, 2008 9:06 am ET

I have to agree with many on here.

The difference is that Clinton took several shots from the Republicans in their debate and didnt batt an eyelash. Obama whines and complains when Clinton and Clinton take jabs at him.

In fact, he has his democratic supporters Clyburn, Kerry and 3 others whine for him.

This is a real, tangible difference that people are not going to ignore.

Nation, please take a moment to view "THE VIDEO THAT HILLARY DOESN'T WANT YOU TO SEE" on the Internet, then draw your own conclusions. Every major news media aired this story for months, CNN, MSNBC, FOX, ABC,CBS, etc. because of the seriousness of the matter. The issue involved Hillary's Senate fundraising campaign and their relationship with promoter Peter Paul. The matter actually found itself in court where one of Clinton's people took the "fall" just to protect Hillary from jail for major election rules violations. Peter Paul, thought he was their "friend", but they decieved him and almost destroyed him. After all the damage was done the Clintons acted like he didn't exist. This 10-minute video does not seem to have any particular media bias since all the major stations reported it. How did we almost "forget" about this major Clintonian infraction? …Hmmmmm? Talk about ugly politics…Paul wasn't even running against anyone. Go figure.

All politicians tell lies the public needs to get over it….Vote Edwards or Clinton in the SC primary on 1-26-08 sent the cry baby back to IL>

The primary is not yet over, I'm already tired of Obama, waffling everytime he shoots off his mouth. Obama supposedly "intelligent," what I am seeing is a man running out of ideas, running out poetic verses. Not easy to run for nomination when the only thing you have are plain words, NOTHING to back it up, ZILCH! KAPUT! NADA!

Obama is like a Typhoon, it always change direction. Obama will say something today, in less than half day you asked him the same thing he'd give you a different answer

OBAMA, SAY WHAT YOU MEAN! AND MEAN WHAT YOU SAY!!!!!! EVEN DOPPLER RADAR CAN'T FOLLOW YOU!!!!!!

And yet people wonder why CNN continue to put up articles about the Clintons.

Its because of the republicans posing as democrats and Obama lovers on this blogg.

VOICE OF REASON From Canada

Americans if you want to witness America taking the final dive into the bottomless pit support Obama. Do you not see the writing on the wall? Republicans will be overjoyed. You'll be playing into their hands. They know Obama hasn't got a chance of winning against a Republican. Hence, the war in Iraq will continue, the Mid East will retalliate and another invasion will be orchestrated this time due to necessity not desire, the borders will remain open to all, it will take decades to restore the economy, and longer to restore America's image. Nato Allies will keep their distance for their own preservation and you will be one against the world.

Do not let this Administration pull your Nation further into the Abyss. I have nothing to gain or loose. I am not for or against any Candidate or Party. I say this out of concern as a Northern Friend and Allie.

old lady USA   January 26th, 2008 12:31 am ET

So, I really wish that my 20-year old niece’s future looked more hopeful than it does at this time.

However, her real future is damaged from:
- decades worth of big political machines' hold over the mouth of the US Citizen in the candidate selection and voting processes;
- followed by decades of Presidential Administrations' managing to personal greed and all the interests of its many peddlers;
- to wars, lies, secrets, and all sorts of shameful acts….

Sounds like there is no hope – but there is.

I am an Edwards supporter simply because he is the most specific of the Dems, and for the most part appears to be telling the truth – I trust that.

If Edwards cannot go on, then I favor Obama for his message of hope AND willingness to work both sides – I trust that.

I know one thing – as a woman of Hillary’s age, I have seen enough of her political behavior to know that she would keep the evils of our current political process going - and I do NOT trust that.

Hillary must be stopped and stopped now, before March 1st.

No More Clintons   January 26th, 2008 12:16 am ET

Choosing not to vote for Hillary is not a Republican trick or another VWRC. It's a statement that we will not support dirty politics. That is our choice and our right.

lynn   January 25th, 2008 11:56 pm ET

That's funny because after the blatant tatics of her and her husband I feel like I need to defend myself. THEY ARE PATHETIC. They have made a mockery of the Democratic Party and have demeaned the importance of blacks, hispanics, whites, and women; attempting to use all of us for their personal gain AND THE MEDIA HAS DEFINATELY GONE ALONG FOR THE RIDE.

Instead of letting this primary playout on the issues and the best person winning. They used their fear of losing to impose the one fear that has always polarized this country, RACE. With all of the experience she brags about one can't help but think she should know better.

I praised the Clintons for so many years I can barely look at my daughter now. For the first time in her 15 years I'm at a lost for words. I wish we could go back to the 90s just so I could change my vote.

She claims to be a work horse well I wish she would work herself up, put Bill on her back and gallop off into the sunset… That's the best contribution she could make to America.

Hillary Clinton has earned her place in this campaign and in history. From very early in her life she has been fighting for the children and underprivileged.

Has anyone thought about the fact that many many countries do not see women in the same way as we do in America? Most women do not hold the same rights as men in alot of the countries that we are at "war" with. As a women, i have seen countless times where my husbands opinion was taken more seriously, for example, the mechanic…so, do you think that these countries and their leaders and their terror organizations would maybe feel that as a country, we are less protected, more vulnerable, because a woman is in "power", considering they view women as "less" than men? I think its dangerous territory.

Obama received $86,000 in campaign donations from Rezko, his house was purchased for$300,000 under fair market value the same day Rezko's wife bought the lot joining his. A far cry from aPresident and First Lady taking hundred of thousands of pictures with people they don't even know. You can bet Hillary never got a dime of campaign money from Rezko and he is known to reward those who help him. Obama's response, as usual, my relationship with him was a mistake. Consider this.....   January 25th, 2008 9:28 pm ET

It is very possible that all of the media outlets and journalists are afraid of posting any "bad" media coverage about Obama, because they are afraid everybody will cry "no fair" and "racism"—–so they adopt a "hands off Obama" policy to "give him a chance" at the Presidency. Meanwhile, they can print negative stories about Hillary and Bill Clinton for days (they're white, of course), because "that's ok", they've been criticized by the Republicans, anyway. Double-standard based on race?

If Obama gets the Democratic nomination for President and runs against McCain or somebody, I can't wait to see if this obvious policy still holds true…….

Let's see if THIS gets posted.

Hillary is right! she should defend herself. It was Obama that threw the first punch. I say Senator Clinton "08″ and by the way I am a black person.

Obama handled this situation badly. He did not help the situation by trying to call-out Senator Clinton during the debate. He sound more like a cry baby. He did not even answer the question about the economy because he was so focused on Hillary. We all know that Politics is a very dirty game and anyone would be kidding themselves if they thought otherwise. Give me a break people, if Obama does not know how to play then he should get out of the game. He thinks this should be a walk in the park. Is Obama that cocky to think he resignate with the American people that we would accept him just for his pretty talk with no substance. Give me a break, I do not think so. However, he showed his true colors when he attacked Hillary. Obama is the one claiming to be the uniter, not Hillary.

DW   January 25th, 2008 7:40 pm ET

It is just incredulous how this whole feud thing has played out….I have watched the primaries closely since Iowa, and I remember EXACTLY when the whole "race" thing began. The day after New Hampshire when Hillary Clinton won, which left a lot of the media red faced from all of their inaccurate predictions, certain commentators began mentioning the "Bradley Effect". That is when race became an issue, and like a football, someone picked it up and ran with it. News people couldn't stand it when she won, and had to come up with some lame reason the polls were wrong. This is about the time every word that came out of Bill or HIllary's mouth began to be studied for "What can we make out of this sentence!" Anyone who has an open mind and bothered to take the time to listen to entire remarks, other than just soundbites, took the words at face value and didn't try to interpret what they really meant!!! Isn't that what Senator Obama claimed with his "party of ideas" remarks last week? By the way, I did listen to his complete remarks, and he did imply that President Reagan put the country on a new trajectory, but not President Clinton. This could have been interpreted either way, depending on who you supported ; I don't think that was by accident either. He obviously is courting independents and dissatisfied Republicans, and I don't blame him. But let's not have different rules depending on which side you are on. Everyone should investigate for themselves, and not believe inflammatory article headlines, because they are usually just used for bait for close minded people.

To Susan in Texas…you may be right about Chelsea having "a moment" and breaking down to a news person's comment.

They didn't just start using Chelsea to campaign for no reason. All the posts about sweet little Chelsea don't take into account she is 27 years old…works for a hedge fund in New York…and has been well coached by her mother and dad. She is hardly a child and yet couldn't handle that 9 year old little girls questions. Give me a break!

The Clintons have got to be the dirtiest politicians I've ever seen and unfortunately Texas has had some of our own. Those political favor debts the Clintons owe must be awful big to stoop as low as they have.

Sis O, IA   January 25th, 2008 6:16 pm ET

It was the Bill Clinton who brought race into the race. But Obama is a candidate of the people. Obama transcends race and party lines. (Obama won the majority of votes in Iowa.)

They are attempting to label Obama as the "African-American or Black candidate"….but he is not. Obama is the PEOPLE'S CANDIDATE. He is America's candidate.

And with bipartisan support, Obama WILL GET THINGS DONE in Washington. We can't afford to elect a President who will spend 4 whole years fighting with Republicans. Gridlock will not help Americans nor our economy. But Obama will help us. Obama hears us, understands us, and most of all, we can trust Obama will keep it honest and will work for us. Not special interests.

Anyone here that has made an entry supporting Clinton, do a goodge with her name and convicted felon Peter Paul. She is shady. But this is just one of the shady dealings she has been involved with. And FYI, there is a difference between fighting back and starting the fight. It's sad that there are actually women out there that look up to a woman like Hillary. She hasn't focused on her qualifications to get elected, but instead has went on a smear campaign. This is not what I'm trying to teach my young daughters. I don't want them to have to step on other people and to lie to reach a goal. If she becomes President I will tell them that she might be President, but she is a bad example of the kind of woman I want you to be.

I’m at the point of being depressed! I think Bill and Hillary’s plan worked. Bill has turned the whites against Obama. This is bringing us back 70 years. These campaign tactics is working and it really sickens me!! At this point, I can’t believe Americans call him Mr. President. This isn’t a game; they are tearing communities and states apart. I use to support the Clintons “I will never” support them!! I can’t see how Clinton supporters don’t see this.

Andrea   January 25th, 2008 5:34 pm ET

Okay, folks. Are any of you tired of bashing the candidates? He said, she said. I sincerely hope that Mr Obama is not selected-he just simply does not have the wisdom or experience.

We are so quick to criticize and judge others. We are becoming hateful, mean people with no respect towards others.

No one individual is less than another.

The Clinton's marriage is none of our business.

The Obama's marriage is none of our business. (I am not an Obama supporter)

If you base your voting on petty things like that, you should NOT have the right to vote. That is why this country is in the mess it is today. We are responsible for electing people for the WRONG reasons.

Let's show some respect for these candidates.

Go Senator Clinton!

OUT W/ THE OLD   January 25th, 2008 5:29 pm ET

I am surprised that Hillary hasn't announced that she has 35 years of experience being black in order to get the South Carolina minority vote that makes up 50%!! Seriously, how do you have 35 years experience on everything! You can't take 1 year of doing this and one year of doing that and say you have two years of experience on both things! She doesn't have 35 years experience of being President, she doesn't have 35 years experience of being in the senate, she doesn't have 35 years experience on education, health, environment, the economy!!

It's hillarious how Hillary supporters buy into this 35 years experience factor! Do you honestly believe she has 35 years experience on everything?

IN ORDER TO MOVE FORWARD YOU DON'T LOOK BACK!!

Gary of LA   January 25th, 2008 5:25 pm ET

I admire Hillary for being tough and standing up for her convictions. Obama can be her VP, he needs to gain more experience to lead us. I want a president who is ready in Day One. I advise her to ignore the people who smear cheap tactics about her and Bill. Go Hillary, you deserve to be our next president!

Trannon   January 25th, 2008 5:06 pm ET

GO HILLARY!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't put up with Obamy's cry baby tactics.

Hey, Clyburn…SHUT UP.

Larry   January 25th, 2008 4:55 pm ET

Right now there is an English teacher reading these posts and having a stroke with all the bad grammer and spelling located within.. I must add that "You go girl" is not a complete sentence, its just barely a partial thought.

ACE   January 25th, 2008 4:50 pm ET

I believe Senator Hillary Clinton is smart and capable, and I voted for Bill Clinton and still believe he was a good President. However, watching the recent squabble I could not help but come to the sad conclusion that both the Clinton's represent the same old divisive politics that we must put behind us.

They served the country well in the past and can surely continue to contribute, but they do not deserve to be President now.

Times have changed, the world is moving on, we need a leader for today and tomorrow. Senator Obama is smart and capable and has the right experience; in my opinion he represents well the change our country needs.

If anything constructive came out of watching the squabble the last few days, it was that it helped me make my decision.

IA. Democrat   January 25th, 2008 4:50 pm ET

Senator Clinton and former president Clinton are guilty of using smear tactics
in an effort to diminish the reputation of a fine man, and a worthy opponant.
It appears that Senator Obama is working hard to run a forthright campaign, however he is distracted, and constantly needing to defend himself against the nonsense orchestrated by the Clinton machine.
As an american , I am angered because of the way in which they are running their campaign. They start the mud-fest, then dilute the truth. They behave in such a way that causes me to feel shame for the political party of which I belong. Such behavior detracts from the serious issues we as a nation are faced with.
Such tactics may backfire, creating an atmosphere of frustration within the party and beyond, causing many to simply "sit this one out' AND hand the white house back to the GOP.
It 's unfortunate but I have lost what little respect I once had for the former president and strongly believe that Hillary lacks the integrety necessary to lead our country in a positive way.

It's time for change.

GirlTalkInTexas   January 25th, 2008 4:45 pm ET

Where is my post from 12:20 today? Don't tell me it's still in moderation.

Tim   January 25th, 2008 4:39 pm ET

A few short weeks ago, HRC would have easily been my 2nd choice for POTUS, behind Sen. Obama. No longer… in my opinion, this competition has brought out the worst in Bill & Hillary… they will obviously stoop to any level for political gain. I find their behavior repulsive & pathetic. Not only has HRC lost my potential vote as a Democrat; no question, if she's nominated I will cast my vote for her Republican opponent…anyone but her in the White House.

Reid   January 25th, 2008 4:39 pm ET

How pathetic. Hillary loses Iowa and launches into a "Rovian" attack on Obama, and let us not forget the tearful moment, and then claims to "only be defending herself." Shameless hypocrisy. The Clinton team is also doing an incredible job of manipulating the media into defining Obama as the "Black" candidate. This way they get the white and Hispanic vote and win the nomination. And then lose to McCain in November when everyone remembers why they dislike her so much. Picture the Supreme Court in 4 years……….

Independent Observer   January 25th, 2008 4:36 pm ET

In response to Dee Ward Mena's post at 9:17 am. ET — I couldn't help noticing your consistent and correct application of capital beginning letters for Clinton, Hillary, Bill, Kerry and Clintons, all being proper nouns — even Presidency was capitalized, but for some reason Obama was not — not once, but twice. Is there a message that you are trying to convey under the guise of political discourse, or maybe I'm just too paranoid?

Alan   January 25th, 2008 4:35 pm ET

I don't see the reason why Bill Clinton should go after Obama if he wasn't afraid of him, to me, i think he's fighting against Obama because his wife stayed in their marriage after Bill committed adultery. His campaigning for her at an all cost fashion is a way of paying for not leaving the marriage. He truly owes her.
What amazes me is that, they call Clinton the first Black President because he is portrayed as a Black people lover, a black man shows up to run for Presidency and he is busy destroying his records. Oh how great his love is for Black people!

Hillary on the other hand is really tired, i hail her for running at all because it's not easy. But for her wanting to win at an all cost fashion is not honorable at all. A candidate turns me off once they begin to attack others, my head is screaming, 'i don't need these attacks, i just want to know how you are going to move America forward. Period!!! I am asking where are all the tears Hillary shed at New Hampshire? If something is not part of you, it is not part of you!

Democratic party has shown that there is problem within their house and it will be difficult for them to have a united front.

To all those people who are not blacks but voted for Obama because they believe in him, people like you are what America truly needs because your vision is clear.

As for me, I am a sideliner, i don't care about race or gender, i am just looking at who can deliver the most, their personality also will go a long way.

jordan blunt   January 25th, 2008 4:33 pm ET

It appears there is only one reason "you" who call yourselves non-racist are supporting Obama, and that is written all over his face. Sad, but popular opinion. An African - American president could give this country some respect in the world that we have lost, but is he the right one? His speeches are completely forgettable after you walk away . Put that aside and would you really vote for him, or is it that you want to bring your "lawn jockey " back outside again without shame. We are ready for a change, a positive one for truth to begin a new democracy with someone with experience and a backbone to support us to correct the mess that "dubya" has created.
That person is Hillery.

ENG   January 25th, 2008 4:33 pm ET

Didn't Bill and Hillary try to play victims of the press after Bill's infidelity when he was Governor of Arkansas and President came to light. They always play the victim role. Aren't people tired of there shenanigans.

Nobama No No No   January 25th, 2008 4:31 pm ET

Can Obama supporters please stop thinking your candidate is clean? He is NOT.

James Hilton   January 25th, 2008 4:30 pm ET

I am disappointed now that I supported John Kerry run for president. Where was Mr. Kerry when they were hitting Hillary with everything except the kitchen sink? He should have remember what happen to him. I do remember who started the negative campainging; try Edward and Obama. I would fight back if someone attacked me. Please tell me, why so much negative press on the Clintons everyday? Is the news media try to setup their contenders for the presidential race? Why is it so important what john Kerry said? What about the individual backing Hillary, where is their comments? We have been down this road before, the news media is trying to get Bill again? This is trully what's happening with the news media. Try doing your job and report all the facts for once.

AJ, IL   January 25th, 2008 4:30 pm ET

You die-hard Hillary supporters must be delusional. You think the Republican candidates in last night's debate were calling out Hillary's name in fear?! Romney said it best, he would love to run against Hillary (and Bill) if need be. The Republicans have plenty of dirt on Hillary and Bill from the 1980s, the 1990s, and 2000s. No one is the democratic party has dare to mention this because they known the Republicans will barrage America with this once Hillary is the nominee.

At the debate last night, Romney sounded more like a conservative version of Obama saying things like "Washington is broke" and "Washington can't change by sending the same ole people doing the same ole things".

If Hillary is nominee, Romney will claim the mantle of change from Obama and wear it as his own. With that mantle of change along with his successful business experience and time as Governor he would be difficult to beat because he would probably draw in more Independent voters than Hillary. Just my analysis.

Obama in '08!

Clintonhater   January 25th, 2008 4:29 pm ET

To all these Billary Twin supporters..wht the hell do you mean she is standing up for herself..she hasn't been doing anythng but lying since Iowa…she's a joke..your a fool if you vote for her..

Barrington Walter   January 25th, 2008 4:20 pm ET

Anonymous   January 25th, 2008 4:19 pm ET

It was Obama who started attacking both Edwards and Hillary at the last debate. He was trying to look tough, but instead got his behind kicked and walked away with his tail between his legs weeping. The guy needs to grow up, stop complaining, and take notice of his own actions. He's a got a big yap and little ears, which means he talks a lot BS, but doesn't listen.

stan pitts pa   January 25th, 2008 4:16 pm ET

Clinton will be very dangerous for our great country. I do not trust her. The Clintons have given away our good jobs for the blue color worker of America in their Nafta deal.

The Republicans wanted to get NAFTA through for many years then came along good 'ole Bill and Hillary and wham with a stroke of the pen away went our union jobs.

Obama or Edwards will be the only safe vote.

When is the love affair with Bill and Hill going to end with the very
biased media…? And when is someone going to give us the
$ amount on the Secret Service required to protect and defend
the former President and First Lady during their bid to be #1 and #2
again in the country. And let us not forget the SS for the First Daughter..
Might be able to build a few houses in New Orleans if they give the
money back???

Joseph   January 25th, 2008 4:12 pm ET

People…please be open and honest in your views. Hillary is nothing more than a wife of a former President, this lady has been involved in scandals (whether right or wrong) since she first became a lawyer. Her Husband has done nothing but the same.

Just for the sake of moving forward, lets find someone new. 20 yrs of the Clinton's and Bush's is more than enough for any country.

Lets move forward, and stop putting re-treads on for another 4 or 8 yrs.

Lets move forward and get the country going into the next decade with someone fresh and new.

PS… to all the people jumping on the CNN is pro Obama, were have you been for ten years, if it wasn't for CNN promoting every second of Hillary and Bill you would have forgotten about them, but no they cover every little step they take, and generally in a positive/ promotional type way.

Elizabeth   January 25th, 2008 4:12 pm ET

Kate. . .do you really think she will practice what she preaches. . . seems to me that in an effort to get her husband elected she said that she wasn't just standing by her man, she believed bill was faithful. .. do you believe that. … they'll say anything. . .anything.. .to get elected, how can you believe that she will actually practice what she preaches

Bernadette Wheeler   January 25th, 2008 4:08 pm ET

I am fairly new to the democratic party, having voted republican most of my adult life. I have been folowing the election closely and thrilled with the running of both Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama but am ashamed of their public bickering and how poorly representative it is of the democratic party. I am not naive and realize that a lot is at stake here, and in this election year, even more is at stake, but a phrase I live by is that "there is no game if you just don't play".

Don't either of these candidates realize that at least one of them has to be the bigger person and they are doing a disservice to themself and their country?

Bernadette

amy   January 25th, 2008 4:08 pm ET

It's around and around in circles with the Clinton's and the press buys is hook line and sinker…Billary attacks and then when the candidate that has been attacked responds to the lies, the Clinton's recoil and play the victim. It's happened at least 4 times now since Jan 3rd. It's so obvious and detrimental to the health of this election process that it must be called out. The media will not so it's up to the American voters to not cast their votes for these people. Please say no to the Clinton's dirty politics!

American's please!!! Do not let yourselves be bullied by the Clinton's and their strong arming in this election. Let's vote with our hearts and minds not old allegiances!

I think that Hillary would have made a good president.
Sadly the way she is letting her campaign be run at the moment is putting the women's movement back about 100 years. She's a strong, independent woman and yet "her man" is continually bailing her out!! This is what we women have been accused of for years. We're not strong enough on our own — we need that strong man to "take care of us" and "fight our battles for us". If, and that's a big if, she manages to get the nomination it will always follow her that Bill got it for her! HIllary stand up now and put a muzzle on your husband!! I'll be supporting Obama!

jgindler   January 25th, 2008 3:52 pm ET

As a woman I was highly displeased with Hilary 's behavior in the last debate and in her comments since that time. She sounded shrewish and has taken to spreading untruths. It was apparent that she was the one on the attack during the debate not Senator Obama.
I wish she would stick to the issues. Bill seems to have fallen into the muck again. He needes to act like a former president not a hit man.
I intend to vote democratic but if she is the nonimee ???????

stan pitts pa   January 25th, 2008 3:52 pm ET

The Think-Tank is playing a pivotal role in advancing the Race card.Moral virtue only existed in opinion, where it served the purpose of controlling the unintellingent majority. The Clinton's political concept is to have President Clinton to attach Barac Obama hoping that he will respond so Hillary Clinton can attach and not be accured of starting the attach. The Clinton's thinks that continuing guarrel between Barac and Hillery will set the stage for the relevant point to be developed at the National Convention. That she will not have to answer the question why not when she does not pick him for her running mate.Reason being the Think-Tank "endless discusion".

Obama is crying that Clintons are picking on him, one can only imagine what would republicans do to him if he became the nominee. Republicans would dig out his past few generations all the way to Kenya and expose him like he can't even imagine and he will regret ever running for president. Clintons are just trying to protect him from being thrashed by republicans and protect Democrats from losing another election. Lets just accept the fact, Obama will never win the electoral even he becomes the official nominee and the Democrats will lose another election and the White House. Unfortunate, but that's the reality in my opinion.

With all the confirmed facts that we have to prove that "Clinton" is another word for "liar" I wonder why we still have people supporting her! Obviously a lot of people are just as shameless and hypocritical as she is! Or maybe they just don't like this Country, because if they do, they will desire a change, for real!

Pedro   January 25th, 2008 3:29 pm ET

I guess Hillary thinks her trying to keep her husband Bill from bedding down every female he met as experience. She couldn't make the decision to divorce Bill, so how will she be able to make critical decisions as president?

there is alot of evidence. i tried to post a link of Hillary and Bill possing for a picture with Tony Rizko but CNN (Clinton News Network) didn't want to post it as they promote pretty much the clintons.
you can check for yourself at the foxnews website and then decide.
knowledge is power my friend.

Doug, DC   January 25th, 2008 3:20 pm ET

Eddie, you must don't know politics. The Republicans are licking their chops at an opportunity to take on the Clintons in November. Their party is extremely divided right now and they know Clintons is the only thing that will unite and energize their base. Couple that with the fact that the Clintons are dividing the Democratic base and guess what we'll get in November: 4 more years of a Republican as Preseident. Thanks alot Clintons!!

Doug, DC   January 25th, 2008 3:17 pm ET

It amazes me how many people are blinded by their love and affection for the Clintons. They are going to drag down the Democratic party. I believe Obama did make the first attack during the last debate BUT it was in response to the numerous attacks the BILLARY camp had been making since IOWA. I just pray and hope that this negative campaigning initiated by the Billary camp doesn't divide our party but I'm afraid it will because I for one will not vote for Billary if they keep this up and win the nomination!! In fact, I hope Obama runs as an independent!!

Janel, Indianapolis, Indiana   January 25th, 2008 3:17 pm ET

I found that Hillary's haters post negative ads again and again, but no evidence. From yesterday night's republican debt. You can feel that they are feared of Hillary. They feel that If Hillary is nominated, they will lose general election.

anyone realize Hillary seems to say the exact same thing Obama said less than a week ago?
this week it was " But toward the end of a campaign you have to set the record straight,"–
exact same thing Obama was trying to do after the Clinton's were saying things that boarder on Outrageous lies.
I would like to know where Obama has ever said anything factually incorrect about hillary? As far as i know, everything that obama has attacked Hillary with has been correct.

You can bet that there will be allot more Senators coming out to endorse Barack Obama , because they remember the scandal's , white water , legal investigation , and SHAME the Clinton's brought to the "PEOPLES WHITE HOUSE".

They also know that Hillary Clinton is a sure loss for the Democratic party in the General Election because , the Clinton's have more trash in there back yard then anyone in American politics today.

Bill Clinton out there in the lime light has reminded the American people of just the kind of people the Clinton's are , and there realizing that a vote for Clinton is , a vote for another Republican in office.

" WE" The American people want our country and White House Back !

NO MORE CLINTON'S !

Eddie   January 25th, 2008 3:02 pm ET

Moreover, I think that Obama does need more experiences.

Felly   January 25th, 2008 2:57 pm ET

Hillary is a great pretender. She and Bill have succeeded in diving the Democratic party. Now that SC primary is almost over, she is trying to clean up her dirty laundry so as to win come Super Tuesday. Shame on you! for you will reap what you sow.

Gobama is crying and complaining that Clintons are picking on him. Thank goodness they are picking on you so people will take a real look on Gobama's past and protect him from being thrashed by republicans. He is crying now, imagine what republicans would do to him, they will dig out his great grandparents history from their graves and pick on them. Lets be honest folks, even if he becomes the nominee, he will never win the electoral college and it will only ruin democrats chances of winning the white house…..

Mauri   January 25th, 2008 2:50 pm ET

In the Republican debate last night, Mitt Romney has succeeded in cloning himself into Obama. He's going to be the president of "change." He can't imagine Bill Clinton being on the loose again in the White House. On and on with one lie about Hillary after another. Hillary will mow him down just as she's doing Obama. So to all the Repub AND Demo candidates, it's not nice to attack a real lady who has kept herself above the fray of all the trashy accusations the losers are making.

As for the Rezko photograph, there's a lot of difference between posing with a sleazy someone than being involved in financial deals with them. Just ask George W. about his photos with Abramson, the Washington lobbyist who bilked the Indian casino owners out of millions and is now serving prison time.

Cheers from NY   January 25th, 2008 2:50 pm ET

This morning on CNN they finaly tried to find who is Tony REZKO and what is the link with Barack Obama.

NEWS NEWS….

TONY REZKO, Obama's budy is the Abramoff of Chicago/Illinois.
No wonder he doesn't need a lobyist in Washington. He has one at home in Illinois.

I wonder how many people like us can buy a mansion in Chicago at 1/2 asking price.

That looks very dirty to me.

Tlc   January 25th, 2008 2:48 pm ET

I think it is important to recall that it was Senator Clinton who, after Iowa, gleefully anticipated dirty campaigning. She referred to it as the fun part. While I respect her right to defend herself against accusations, I do think that she should do so truthfully. Lying doesn't make her or her husband look anything other than desperate.

As Hillary says, this is a contest and I don't think it's wrong to play stategy to win, nor do I think it's wrong to try to win "at all costs". That's what we do in America - the contest is very important and very central to us as a society. Obama's just mad because she's one upped him continuously. But she's right - he started it and she's gone after him with everything she's got. Good for her.

But ultimately, the New York Times said it best as to why she and not Obama should be president: "Hearing her talk about the presidency, her policies and answers for America's big problems, we are hugely impressed by the depth of her knowledge, by the force of her intellect and by the breadth of, yes, her experience."

No one can deny the incoming fire Hillary took when she was the front runner. No one complained about anyone attacking her, and viciously I might add. As soon as she tries to answer those attacks, she's shot down by her opponents supporters and the media magnifies the situation to incredibly deafining levels.

I recall one vicious attack from the Obama camp (D. Punjab). It was inappropriate, and Obama himself said so. Any "attacks" since then have been as a result of misleading provocations. If you have quotes or video to refute this, please post them.

Jayjay   January 25th, 2008 2:34 pm ET

Ms. Clinton is absolutely in the right! Obama is the biggest political crybaby I've seen on the national scene for a long time. He attacks and then seems offended when his opponent strikes back. He should go home to Illinois and get some experience under his belt.

Shawn B (Canada)   January 25th, 2008 2:33 pm ET

A large number of people in Canada would love to have another Clinton in the White House . Our relationship will suffer if the other party is elected. When President Clinton comes to Canada on his speaking tour he sells out in a matter of minutes at $250.00 a seat. Although Canada doesn't effect most Americans your Country has a very tremendous effect on our larger country to the north.I am very pro American and would love to have Mrs. Clinton as the next President

John   January 25th, 2008 2:29 pm ET

Whenever Obama is question about something the Clinton's are going negitive. That's part of of the process. What will Sen Obama do in Nov if he gets the nomination? Don't you think the Republicans will question "his book", his "voting record" and every move he ever made. So stop the nonsense and let the Campaign go on. Hillary plays hard but fair

I see a lot of people on this post who support Senator Hillary Clinton, so please help me understand were does her 35 years of experience come from. To my knowledge she has only held one position as a publicly elected official and that is as a New York State Senator for the last 8 years. Is she counting her years as first lady of Arkansas and first lady in the White House? I don't see how she can say that she has more experience than Senator Barack Obama who served in the Illinois State Senate from 1997 to 2004 and in the US Senate from 2004 to Present which equals 11 years of experience in public office. She has been talking about a Universal Health Care plan every since her husband was elected president in 1992 and she still has not been able to get it done. After watching the debate on Monday night I don't think she or John Edwards would be able to ever get it done because of the way their plans are structured. She and John Edwards said that their Universal Health Care plans would MANDATE that all US citizens get health care. I don't think the US government has the right to MANDATE that people get health insurance because some people don't get their health care from traditional doctors. I don't think that most republicans and some democrats in the House and Senate would vote for a plan that MANDATED all US citizens get health insurance. What ever happened to the freedom of choice? Because I use to sale health insurance I agree with Senator Obama that the best way to offer health insurance to people who want it but don't currently have it is to make health insurance more affordable for the uninsured through a government program and not through MANDATED legislation. Also, when I listen to Senator Clinton and John Edwards talk about the war in Iraq (both of whom voted to authorize the war) they sound like the two candidates with the least amount of experience. If anyone thinks that we are going to be able to just pull our troops out of Iraq within the next 90 days as John Edwards says or within the next year as Hillary Clinton says they're crazy. If you vote for either one of them you will be sorely disappointed when ours troops are still in Iraq next year. We have the destroyed the Iraqi government and the country, so how can we just pack our bags and leave now. I did not agree with this war in the beginning, but I have enough sense to know that after going into Iraq and destroying the societal structure as we have we can't just pull out without careful planning and working with the UN to help build the country back up. We destroyed this country and now it is our responsible to make sure this country is able to stand on its own. Every time I hear Senator Clinton and John Edwards talk able how fast they would pull the troops out of Iraq I see just how they ended up voting to authorize this war in the first place because they don't think things through. It appears to me that Senator Clinton is just going with what is popular and John Edwards really regrets that he voted to authorize this war, so if he can get the troops out fast enough it will all go away. They're not acting like experienced politicians to me. Senator Obama on the other hand has said repeatedly that we need to be just as careful getting out of Iraq as we were careless getting in. I use to be a democrat now I am a registered independent who normally votes for the democratic candidate, but if Senator Obama doesn't win the democratic nomination I will be voting republican this time around because the democratic party would prove to me that they don't mine being lied to as long as it is coming from one of there own.

Every hateful email out there is all about ignorance. You go Hillary IIIII

GiveMeABreakInTexas   January 25th, 2008 2:26 pm ET

Hillary…how stupid do you think we are?

Oh that's right, there are those robo-voters who just love you…think they "owe" you something…think it's you are entitled to be in office because you stood by your man Bill…and will vote for you now matter how low you go. They don't matter much anyway because you could put a cannon to their heads and they would still vote for you and ole" BillyBoy".

Good grief! How anyone can watch the Queen of Lies…Queen of Anger…Queen of Hate…Queen of Plastic and vote for her is just amazing to me. I just don't get it…but then I think for myself.

Yep I'm starting to think the only ones supporting you would be those good ole Yellow Dog Democrats and people who owe you and Bill political favors. They will work real hard to get you and Bill back in office so they can collect.

Wake up America….why would you want 4 more years of that….NO MORE CLINTONS.

Mr Barney   January 25th, 2008 2:25 pm ET

We had enough of the Clinton's. All they know how to do is distort the truth….NO TO HILARY

Kim Kelly   January 25th, 2008 2:25 pm ET

Is she on the same planet as the rest of us? When she thought she had the nomination locked up, she was real positive but when the voters let her know that this was not going to be a walk in the park, she had to change her tactics. I had not made up my mine on either candidate but after the last 2 weeks, I know who I will not be voting for and I had the upmost respect for Senator Clinton and Mr. Bill was my candidate. It is just disgusting to see how they distort the words of Senator Obama. I saw the interview and what they are spouting is not true. I have no problem with going after a person's record or what they actually said but this is ridiculous. Oh if only Edwards had a chance.

Concerned Citizen, IN   January 25th, 2008 2:24 pm ET

This is seriously laughable. There are so many people who point out that it shouldn't matter about race or gender, but then they close with "you go GIRL". Hillary has been courting the women vote the same way Barack has been courting the black vote. Get over it. She continually talks about making history, and I don't think she's talking about anything other than having the first female president.

As for the not attacking first, get real. If she doesn't do it, one of her minions does it for her. The Obama haters only mention the people that support him like Oprah or Clyburn, etc.

What about the founder of BET who started the ruckus about Obama's days at a community organizer.

What about the HRC supporter who started the hubub alleging Obama may have dealt drugs in his past.

And Oprah campaigned for Obama what, a few days? Bill is still out on the trail and the media hangs on his every word. I don't recall Oprah slinging mud at any other candidate the way former President Clinton has done. Get real.

No Trev, I don't remember when Senator Obama said he was going to take the gloves off. I do remember when Senator CLINTON said she was going to do so. I remember her saying that was the fun part of campaigning.

I'm so disappointed in my fellow Democrats. In fact, I intend to go up to the court house this afternoon and change my party to independent. Not that that matters to anyone here….but it is my intention.
Now, those of you who want to hate on Obama, it wouldn't make any difference what he said or says, or does, you're going to hate on him because he's running againest your 'girl'.
However, those of us you 'hate' on HRC, have a past record to fall back on. She's given us very good reason to not trust her….or her hubby, although that pains me to say it, I've always been a B. Clinton supporter. Until now. I now know how the Bush supporters must feel when the light finally comes on and you see clearly. That's what has happened with me and Bill. Sad, but true
I remember the first time I saw Obama in person here in Iowa. At the age of 54 it's pretty hard to impress. We've seen it all the past several years. But, here was a man who actually made me hope. Made me believe that just maybe something could be different. And of COURSE, the rest of the Dems would see it too! Of course they would. They've all lived through 7 years of Rove and Bush.
But, the game continues, with the masters at it taking the lead.

It really is disappointing to know that nothing is going to change. The same old same old is going to prevail. Maybe my republican son is right…..maybe we are better off when Washington is at each others throat and nothing gets done.

But what a cynical view. We get what we get.
And there's no one to blame but us. Not the media, not the candidates, just us.

Objective observer   January 25th, 2008 2:23 pm ET

To the supposed republican who said they are voting for Hilliary because if she could save her marriage she could save our country….quite frankly I'm frightened by that idiotic logic.

Ouch! such hateful comments.

While I President Clinton was in office, I never lost my job, and actually had a couple of raises. I finished college while he was in office. There were plenty of JOBS. He fought for folks like us.

With the Bush Administration, Many of us lost our jobs including myself-because of his cuts in programs, in addition, no raises in several years.

Texas ranks 48th in the Nation for Mental Health Care. That demonstrates where this present administrations priorities are. Texas is the most Punitive State in the Nation today. We have plenty of jails and prisons here. Instead of maintaining and opening facilities to provide much needed intervention to help those in desperate need, (so they don't end up in jail or prison), We are paying the taxes the wealthy are excused from, so they can reinvest and make even more money. Go figure…………

What a shame and disgrace to hardworking Americans.

Go Senator Clinton!
