McCain crossed party lines, the Grand Ole Party doesn't like that. McCain /Feingold, McCain/Kennedy.. need I say more.
The GOP is a, read my lips, not gonna happen party. Prime example: the current administration. At least McCain tried to get things done by reaching across the aisle.

Sorry to say but who gives a crap what she thinks? She is more then likely not completely in touch with reality on a day to day basis not to mention the fact that as a mother she is going to overlook the obvious reasons on why most Republicans cannot in good concious support a moderate/liberal Republican.

Now what is the point of having this guys mother on here? Am i supposed to be impressed by his mother? Lovely lady she may be, but doesnt everybody have a mother?

Is your mother a direct reflection of what kind of president you will be?

Where is everybody elses mother? Be fair now CNN. You have to do an article on every candidates mother so nobody will think you are bias.

I can never say anything bad about McCain's mom, she isn't running and she isn't an issue, she should support her son, I mean Bill supports his mom Hitlery!

mad insane McCain is not true conservative, he's baffon at best. He has served this country honorably in the military, but that is all I can give him.

He's a lib playing like he's a conservative. That is why he is a media darling becasue they love him for playing the part they want him to.

Even making a todo about how he and Hitlery are friends. Don't buy into that crap. If you vote for Hitlery or McCain, you deserve what is coming to you, more taxes, more orgies by Billy, policy mad by Billy, and another impeachment.

Hey didn't we do this already?

Obama 08!

Chris Fischahs-

Voting Democrat in protest is not the right thing to do. Obama and Hilary are worse than any of the Republican candidates. You really should stick to the Republicans and select the best candidate from our selection. Obama or Hilary will be a worse disaster than Bush ever was!

The difference between the Democrat debates and Republican debates should be a warning for what it will be like if Obama or Hilary wins. The Republicans were intelligent and spoke about the issues last night. The Democrats attack each other personally like a reality show. I felt like I was watching Jerry Springer.

Please reconsider voting Democrat in protest. It will be a HUGE mistake if one of those fools gets into office!

John McCain is a true american hero. In terms of honest service to the US, personal sacrifice and self giving; no other republican candidate comes close to the honorable senator. The rest of the candidates´ service record pale in comparison with McCain´s.
If you want a president that will stand up for the people and lead this country back to the road of success and pride, McCain is the one!
I feel compeled to praise Mike Huckabee too. He is a genuine gentleman and man of honor and true to his faith. I hope senator McCain chooses him as his running mate. That would be a mutual VERY hard to beat (even for Hillary!).

McCain - calling himself a conservative? LOL NOT!
Romney - calling himself a conservative? NOT! (He's phony.)

Fred Thompson - calling himself a conservative? True

The Republican Party has left it Reagan-coalition conservative base, as it panders to all... vice standing on principles.

I am voting Democrat for the first time ever this year, in protest.

Seekster Get a life.

If Bush is not the worst president, then he is definately in the bottom of the barrel. McCain is repulsive. We will be a third world country soon if we elect people like McCain. I wish America would wake up and think for themselves. Not because a republican said something or because a democrat said something. What do you think for yourself.

McCain is the only Republican I'd ever vote for, but he can forget about any gratitude from the GOP. They want a robot who hold the party line on every single issue, not a candidate who will think for himself.

*** He's 77…. and his mom is still around? ***

Uh, no. He's 71.

we as americans have to stop this bickering as to being loyal to your parties beliefs because if our politicians dont do whats right for us as a nation and remain loyal to their party, then the nation as a whole suffers. We will then slowly become a nation thats no different to other chaotic countries. John McCain has done that time after time he puts America first then his political party.

I agree with those of you who have said that electing McCain would be like re-electing Bush..... Why would anyone want to do that? Bush is clearly the worst President this country has ever seen, we here in the U.S. fear "radical" islams, but what about radical Americans? Shouldnt we fear those who are willing to destroy all civil liberty, and sacrifice thousands of human lives just for one sick perpetuated idea, that America is the absolute greatest country in the world.. This is obviously not true, wake up from the 1700's face the issues at hand, dont dwell on how great this country was 300 years ago, focus on the flaws now, and try to fix them.. Personally I think that the whole "America supperiority" idea is a mirror of the middle east... We are willing to do anything and everything to protect the idea of this country... Sometimes we need a change, sometimes what went on 300 years ago wasnt exactly right, lets not end u p like the middle east... Vote Obama

Mary,
Did you watch any of the other Republican debates? I hope you are not ignoring the confrontations that did occur between them. The 11th commandment is far from a principle of the modern party (example: Bush/Rove vs. McCain in 2000). It is another reason why I am proud to be a former Republican. I do not care for bashing from either party, but it is hardly an absolute for any one affiliation.

Someone else mentioned Condoleezza Rice as VP. It would be great to give her the nod so that Americans can finally ask her fairly and publicly about her position as National Security Advisor under Bush. What was she doing (or not doing) when the false claims were presented about yellow cake from Niger? She was to advise the president to ensure the claims were true before proceeding on the evidence. What happened to her responsibilities?

Regarding Roberta McCain's point, I used to like John McCain’s policies before he abandoned his centrist positions to become another Bush neoconservative. It is unfortunate for someone I used to admire as a politician.

As a soldier that's done my share of time away from home, I have to say that I would have no qualms with serving a hundred more years for my country. John McCain has what the other candidates don't....principles. He sticks by who he is, what he's done, and what he believes in. I can't help but question the Democrats agendas. Let's put the right person in office and select the person that won't crumble under political pressure. Vote McCain!!!

Holy moley!

This wonderful woman - 95 years old, still vital (you're right you posters, that's one reason McCain has his guts) speaks out on behalf of her son ... and y''all find a reason to criticize both the senator AND his mother!

Topanga Canyon - I cannot beleive that you said this! "Do Republicans really want someone that can't even comb their hair to try and run the country? "
The reason that Sen McCain "can't comb" his hair is that he was tortured so brutally as a POW of North Vietnam for 5+ years, resulting in a permanent loss of use.

I personally do not agree with several of his positions, most notably abortion. But, unlike 90% of the candidates on either side, he has been consistent - he supports the present position in Iraq (remember, he is a Naval Academy graduate and Vietman vet with two sons in the military, one on active duty in Iraq) .

I am so sick of those who obfuscate and lie their way to the Presidency - maybe this year there are two authentic candidates - John McCain and Barack Obama. And may the electorate consider each on their record, merits, plans and ideas for this country be our leader for the next four years.

The thing I loved about Sen. McCain, his independent thinking. He wasn't a slave to his party's ideology nor committed to towing the line of his party just because. some called him a marverick because of it I call it being principled. He could find common ground and work across the aisle. Then he is a Navy veteran as am I so naturally we brothers have to stand together. His mother however is right in that he's been treated shamefully by his party over the years. It is mind boggling to me that after what Bush and his machine did to him 2000 that he would then put himself on the line in such a huge effort to get him re-elected in 2004. But I supposed he did so with an eye toward 2008 with the hope that the same fervor he gave to Bush's re-election the party would reciprocate to him. As I watch him campaign this time he is not the John of old. He is much more cautious and yes panders more to his party and base. But undoubtedly he knows this is the last shot he will have at the white house and he is willing to compromise a few things to get there.

I know Sen. McCain is probably flinching a little bit, but such bluntness without regard to consequence or smarmy, back-handed attacks on any particular candidate is refreshing, to say the least.

Of course the base can't support McCain. After all, he teams up with Kennedy to promote the intrest of illegal aliens at the expense of the citizens of the US. I am sorry McCain had to spend 5 years as a POW, but now, he's just sold out to Mexico and the big buisness interest that want to destroy our nation. In fact, McCain is a traitor who puts the interests of other nations before that of his own country.

"Slams"? Saying something is non-existent is different from "slamming" it. Good spin though-- probably attracted a lot of readers.

I'm an independent and really want to vote Democratic this year, but if Hillary wins the nomination, it's likely I will vote for McCain if he's the nominee. Obama and McCain can go across party lines and actually get things done. People are going to have to realize you have to compromise a bit to get things done. I think John and Barack could do that. My first choice in the general election is Barack Obama, if he's not the nominee, I will vote for John McCain. Please, no Hillary for me. Who is running her campaign? Carl Rove?

To quote the woman: "I don't know what the base of the Repub–maybe I don't know enough about it"

Well, then maybe you shouldn't be speaking. Let's hear from the candidates, I'm tired/bored of McCain's Mom and Sly Stallone and Chuck Norris and Bill Clinton and the list goes on speaking for the candidates. At least Oprah stopped showing her face after just ONE weekend. If only the others could have the same sense as the queen of daytime talk.

His mom is sweet and loves her son. It's clear she doesn't realize that any support for Bush is the wrong approach. It's true that McCain doesn't have full support of his party, but none of them do. Unfortunately, I think he's a nice man, but don't see him as a President. Need to get out of this war. He has too many Bush ties. Barack Obama is intelligent and wants to head in a new direction. He has a vision.
