Another state weighs in tonight.
Another state weighs in tonight.

NEW YORK (CNN) - This is one of those days when an anchor (me) really appreciates his staff (mine).

We like to say that CNN has the best political team on television. And that is true. But I have to add that I have the best staff on television. They are hard-working, smart and determined to get the story right. And I am totally grateful.

I say this because I will be especially dependent on them when we have big election results to report. That will be the case tonight in Florida where the Republican presidential primary will be in the spotlight. I have to have total confidence in my team.

When I am told in my earpiece while anchoring our coverage on live television to report that CNN can project a winner – sometimes just based on the exit polls, but more often based on the exit polls and official votes that are tallied in key precincts – I have to be sure we are right. No doubt whatsoever. While it’s important for a journalist to get the story first, it is much more important to get it right.

We have an incredible team of polling experts, statisticians, producers and researchers who will get it right. You would be amazed to see the behind-the-scenes operation that is underway to make sure we are completely on top of the story. Even as I write these words, they are carefully and methodically going over the early exit poll numbers. They are, simply put, the best in the business.
