Obama praised Edwards in a statement Wednesday.

WASHINGTON (CNN) – Democrat Barack Obama praised John Edwards and his wife Elizabeth Wednesday, in a statement issued shortly after news surfaced the former North Carolina senator plans to drop his presidential bid.

“John Edwards has spent a lifetime fighting to give voice to the voiceless and hope to the struggling, even when it wasn’t popular to do or covered in the news," he said. "At a time when our politics is too focused on who’s up and who’s down, he made a nation focus again on who matters – the New Orleans child without a home, the West Virginia miner without a job, the families who live in that other America that is not seen or heard or talked about by our leaders in Washington."

"John and Elizabeth Edwards have always believed deeply that we can change this – that two Americans can become one, and that our country can rally around this common purpose," Obama continued. "So while his campaign may end today, the cause of their lives endures for all of us who still believe that we can achieve that dream of one America."

I'M SO SICK OF OBAMA. WAKE UP EVERYONE! NOW THAT EDWARDS IS OUT OF THE RACE, OBAMA IS KISSING UP TO HIM TRYING TO WIN HIS SUPPORTERS.

John G-- Brooklyn   January 30th, 2008 7:58 pm ET

Rafi68- actually i dont remember him saying that. They do have a different approach to universal healthcare but thats just one issue. I would say that Edwards and Clinton disagree on the issues more than he and Obama overall, including in regard to campaign financing/lobbiests and trade, 2 of edwards biggest issues.

And this ur an idot thing from a lot of clinton supporters toward obama supporters (goes the other way to). Give it a rest. Some of the smartest people in this country support obama and one of obamas biggest bases of support is people with advanced degrees. Maybe the reason they support obama is beyond ur comprehension, but many/most of hissupporters are not idiots and are thinking very clearly. Also for all the woman who desire to see a woman in the white house, which is totally understandable, take solace in some of obama's biggest supporters like senator clair mckaskil, governer kathy sebelius and gov janet napolitano who are all rissing stars in the party and may be excellent candites in the near future.

I am a VERY disappointed in the Republican party. I am a converted Republican planning on voting for Sen. Obama because he has the ability to build a coalition, appeal to other parties outside of his own, which will translate in getting a majority in Washington to actually get things done. I have several Republican friends who feel the same way and are supporting Sen. Obama. .

However, if it were a Clinton vs. McCain in the general, they had indicated that they will stick with the party so that the Clintons don't get back into the White House. Personally, I don't know what I would do yet.

If Hillary Clinton is the Democratic nominee – I have the feeling the Republicans will regain the White House. McCain can get the Independent votes and possibly diehard Obama supporters who would never vote for Hillary because of some of the campaign tactics played the past month against Sen. Obama.

So, I am scared that if Hillary is the Democratic nominee, we are back to nothing getting done in Washington for another 4 years. We will be back to the partisanship and gridlock we see in Washington for the past 10 or so years.

It takes TIME to do that job and if you keep sniveling they might take this away from us. It is EXPENSIVE to do this and I like it that we get a chance to speak out.

At a time when our country is at a HUGE turning point, at a time when our country is suffering, at a time when our men and women are risking their life on the line, it is not the time for a HUGE change. We need someone who can make a difference yes, and change is good, but experiance leads change, and Obama has none.

Well, well, well… There is a female, and male, and then there is just JOHN, but today just JOHN may help you, so today you praise him and laude him with accolades…how nice, praise when convienient, when you need the people. YOU are a hypocrit OBAMA.

Why don't people see the obvious when its so obvious…

obama/edwards has potential to be the greatest ticket in history. Things will get done in washington, and our image will be greatly restored around the world, but like john said, when the agents of change stand up the voices of status quo will shout. Please people, I know we all have our disagreements, but the obvious is in our face, and we may not get another chance at something like this…

vote obama, and you'll most likely get the son of the south John edwards

America is in trouble. American have made a lot of mistakes in the last 8 years, they can not afford another mistake. People were easily cornered by propaganda and media bias. It is sad people don't learn from lesson. Obama is out of the league, although he is a good public speaker.

Hillary is not about the past, she is the one who has fighted with the Republican right wings from the begining. She is tough and has experience. People like or dislike her, but it is time for American to make right choice.

I have discussed you ( yes you) with a few of my friends frm both sides of the isle and it is funny.. they ALL know your posts and agree on one thing. You MUST work for Hillary. WHY? you ask. Your statements are almost always empty of actual reasoning but ALWAYS say the same thing HILLARY HILLARY even on threads that have NOTHING to do with her.

NOW you say Edwards should be Hillarys VP… Why is that..because they LOOK the same…it is clear ( if you pay ANY attention) that he has been against her all along..SHE is not CHANGE. I don't know the man personally but I don't think even HE wants the heat of Turning to the Darkside JUST to get a job. He seems too image aware to do that. Go back to your $8.00hr and hour Blog for Hillary Job and work on your technique. You are too transparent.

Bruce Johnson   January 30th, 2008 4:43 pm ET

John Edwards ran an honorable campaign and succeeded in shaping the agenda for all Democratic candidates and I hope for the general election.
As John acknowledged in the last debate, he and Obama are the real candidates standing for change against the status quo represented by the Clintons.
Where I see Edwards and Obama differing is in their approach to how that change can come about… perhaps not so much a difference as that Obama's message is clearer that really achieving the changes so badly needed in this country and the world requires an active, mobilized and united citizenry. That's not just about changing faces in the White House, but a fundamental change in the way politics is conducted. Whoever is in the White House can 'fight' and 'take on' the lobbyists and special interests and corporations, but as the Clinton's failed effort for Healthcare Reform years ago illustrates, they can't win by themselves or by forming alliances of the powerful through muddy compromises. To win, we need an inspired and mobilized citizenry — then we can't lose.

The CNN should have included Hillary's comment regarding John's getting out of the race. CNN and the press should start asking hard questions about Obama. This is becoming one-sided. Even when Senator Kennedy endorsed Obama, CNN carried it for over thirty minutes and any time Hillary is speaking, it is hardly covered for twenty minutes.

Eric   January 30th, 2008 4:25 pm ET

I think that the Clinton supporters got so used to Hillary being the ordained frontrunner that they just can't stand to see anyone else get any press. I find it funny because CNN = The Clinton News Network for almost 10 months on this ticker…

The fact of the matter is no one likes reading positive stories about the other candidate. Grow up!

John Edwards hasn't yet given his speech to leave the race and Obama is now fishing for Edwards supporters to support him.

A top Edwards aide said the former senator contacted Obama and Clinton on Tuesday, telling them he was considering dropping out of the race and asking them to make poverty a top issue of their campaigns and — if either reaches the White House — a central part of their administration.

Both candidates agreed, the aide said.

Obama is just living up to his word AS USUAL

I have a been a great fan of CNN as an independent news channel (not like FOX news) but since last couple of weeks, I am disappointed (and am sure there are may others) as CNN has become an OBAMA campaign resource. Obama’s comment about Edward gets published on CNN web site but not Hillary’s. Obama’s speach on Edwards gets coverage on CNN channel while Clinton’s comments did not even get read (even by the news caster). What is going on? How much is Obama paying CNN?

Brian   January 30th, 2008 3:53 pm ET

You have to be kidding, he praises John Edwards to save grace and you, CNN, will air anything about Obama, what you failed to do is air Clintons remarks that outreached more support for Edwards than Obama's. Get off the ban wagon and treat all the canidates with equality across the boards.
It is clear to see that CNN has a hight level CO that is a Obama supporter because that is all CNN talks about. It is sad that we have these issues in American Politics. Be fair in your reporting will you.

it seems that democrats are just as fond of categories as the republicans. if we dont get past this, we will lose. Obama is a post-demographic candidate…he is black AND white, therefore scary for those who cling to racial "definitions". As far as experience, he has dedicated his adult life to public service. back in 92, bill was the bright young hope and bush was "experience". the point is, "experience" can lead to cronyism and cynicism just as much as it can help understand the workings of govt. Obama is perfectly qualified to be President. It's time to let the Clintons go…

The Constitution permits Bill Clinton to be elected vice-president, and if necessary to ascend for a third time to the presidency as careful attention to the language of the 12th and 22nd Amendments shows.

The 12th Amendment would allow a Clinton vice-presidency. Its language only bars from the vice-presidency those persons who are "ineligible to the office" of President. Clinton is not ineligible to the office of president, however. He is only disqualified (by the 22nd Amendment) from being elected to that office

Article II of the Constitution carefully defines exactly who is "eligible to the Office of President": anyone who is a natural born citizen, at least 35 years old, and has been a U.S. resident for at least 14 years.

bp   January 30th, 2008 3:36 pm ET

I am a conservative – so I don't have a dog in the Obama / Clinton fight. It amazes me to see the Clintons accusing the media of bias. No one controls the media like they do. But if the media does not buy their spin, they are so quick to whine about bias.

What amazes me even more is to read the posts from the Clinton supporters accusing CNN and the media of bias. I don't see it. CNN is just as tough on Obama as Clinton. One week it is better for one, and then the next week is better for the other. You can't always get what you want. When the Clintons fumble, somehow it's always someone else's fault – never theirs. If they don't get the spin they want, then that's their fault. They need to suck it up and try harder – not whine. It is hard to respect that kind of behavior.

I think the whining comes from the Clintons' incredible sense of entitlement. No one has the right to control the media. That is what scares me about the Clintons – their insatiable desire for power. Hilliary Clinton reminds me so much of Richard Nixon, and although I am a conservative, even I know better than to want another Nixon.

Obama seems different. I could never vote for such a liberal candidate, but I believe that he could work well with conservatives and help get our nation back on track. If Hilliary Clinton wins, the rift in Congress and in our nation will widen. A lot of conservatives want her to win at least the nomination because they believe it will lead to a conservative groundswell and revitalization. But I am not so Machiavellian. I would like to get a peacemaker for our next president – preferably from the right, but from the left if necessary. Hilliary Clinton is the candidate of bitterness. Obama seems to be the peacemaker who can unite us rather than divide us.

Edwards Supporter   January 30th, 2008 3:35 pm ET

SS: Edwards' supporters were already in Obama's camp, he doesn't need to covet us. A lot of us went with Edwards because he's run before and he's from the south. They're otherwise virtually identical on issues and principles. Obama has proven he's our best hope and the best choice for both national and party solidarity.

Susan, MI   January 30th, 2008 3:31 pm ET

Hey CNN, I know Obama is your darling, but do you think you could post this?

If Edwards endorses Obama, I'll be even more disgusted with the obvious 'old boys network.'

And, although 'political pundits' say that 60% of those voters who would have voted for Edwards will now go for Obama (according to CNN), I have read elsewhere that the exact opposite will occur (NY Times recent national poll (Jan 24, 2008) showing that Clinton will gain more of Edward's votes should he drop out). I bet, especially in the South, that votes among white voters that would have gone to Edwards will now go to Hillary. In support of this, an MSNBC poll showed a 10-point decline for Obama among whites in just one week in South Carolina and a second poll showed an 18-point decline among whites a day before the primary was held.

It's all going to be over after Tuesday, Obama. We're going to finally get a thick cross-section of America, and we're going to see a majority of states going to Clinton. Hope you enjoyed your 15 minutes of fame.

tim   January 30th, 2008 3:30 pm ET

Sam   January 30th, 2008 3:29 pm ET

Hillary is a farce. Bill was elected promising universal health care. The Congress was democratic. Eighty percent of the public was behind it. The economy could easily support it. Yet her program was 100% failure. She had another 6 years to try to revive it. Let's hear the excuse for 8 years of failure on her supposed pet program – when her husband was the president no less.

Now there's an election, she's promising you healthcare again just like Bill did – with an unworkable mandatory plan.

The theory is that if you can fool them once, you can always fool them. As Geffen says, "the Clintons lie with such ease, it's troubling". and the NY Times' William Safire called her a "congenital liar". Hillary flunked healthcare. She flunked Iraq. She flunked Iran. She even flunked the Washington bar exam twice. That's her record – her so-called experience. Vote Obama to get the job done.

Its a shame people on this page also can't get past the black vs. white support, who cares if wealthy blacks support the black candidate, I'm sure there are plenty of wealthy whites supporting the white candidate. And yes, obviously Obama is going to congratulate Edwards on running a great campaign, and then immediately go after his supporters, it's called strategy, it's the only thing that has won campaigns in the past and it's the only way to win them in the future. I guess we'll all see the real truth when we find out who Edwards endorses, which will clearly swing the public one way or the other.

Hillary did not campaign in Florida. Both Hillary and Obama held fundraisers closed to the public and press……these were allowed under the no campaigning rules…but…..Obama ran ads off of CNN which were shown in Florida…so who broke the rules????

joy   January 30th, 2008 3:09 pm ET

OBAMA stop running you big mouth and focus on the positive campaign you preach about. l am tired of your lying and manipulative ways. One day you are black and the next you act white, but when people say anything to you, it is a racial thing. l am a black woman and hate this silly race game you are playing. You want handout and every time l hear you been sooooooooooooo dramatic with speeches you did not even write and tele prompt, it makes me sick to the stomach because you are MLK wanna be and l can;'t stand for such bs. you talk about changing washington but kissing the kennedy's as* so you can get far. You make me sick to the stomach and stop attacking Hillary. l dont like her, but fair is fair and you should play by your rule. She stop attacking you after you were such a cry baby, you acted like a spoilt brat by snobbing her and then today you are talking crap again. everytime you open your mouth, crap comes out and l can't stand your games no more.you are just a politician like the rest and stop this silly speeches you did not even write. lf l want inspiration bs like you preaching, l will go to church and uplift my spirit. l want to hear you talk about how you are going to help the country and stop gearing so much of your energy towards the clintons. when u were in iowa, you where whiter than snow, in sc you were blacker than char coal, now super tuesday you busy showing pictures of you with your white grand parents. OBAMA what are you? a fake as* nigg* man up and stop acting like a brat.

Sharon   January 30th, 2008 3:07 pm ET

Get rid of the Bush/Clinton dynasty? You must be kidding, bro. Clinton left us with a record budget surplus. Bush is leaving us in the crapper. I was never unemployed when Clinton was President. I was laid off twice while Bush was in office, and my husband was laid off twice as well.

I say Clinton/Obama or Obama/Clinton. I'll vote for either.

pat   January 30th, 2008 3:07 pm ET

ive been saying for months how bias cnn is to the clintons thats because they answer to ted turner a republican who once ran for the presidency an lost. you may not like hillary but she is the only person who knows what she is doing an she will do it well after all she dosent want to go down in history as a baffon like george b. shes a wife , a mother, and aperson also an believe it or not she really cares. so vote for her or you might elect a republican. obama is not ready yet next time.

Sharon   January 30th, 2008 3:07 pm ET

I used to have great respect for Tim Russert…..but yesterday I heard him imply that Hillary Clinton won Florida bascially because she cheated and campaigned there…..I NEVER thought I'd hear him lie like that…..He has lost ALL my respect….along with the Today Show & MSNBC…..why don't journalists just speak the truth? From BOTH sides?
CNN, you also need to GET RID of Gloria, or whatever her name is….what a distraction to election coverage….she just fights with whoever spoke before her…..she really needs a new line of work………

dn   January 30th, 2008 3:07 pm ET

I second on that TJ. Only Republican who thinks about poor Americans.

pd   January 30th, 2008 3:07 pm ET

Let's try to get this posted again!
Actually, MSNBC is Obama's network. Indeed, Russert got really upset when the Clintons called him on the fact that he did not ask follow-up questions in the debate, like Charlie Gibson did. Since then, all the pundits on MSNBC have been anti-Hillary. Unfortunately, CNN has become so weak as a network, they just follow MSNBC's lead

charlotte   January 30th, 2008 3:06 pm ET

Sucking up big time? Is this picture from the white guy comment?

Gloria   January 30th, 2008 3:04 pm ET

Obama doesn't speak of the cause of more than half the american people who struggle. According to Obama there is not a rich america and a poor america, (along with- not a this america and a that america) there is only one america, according to Obama. So how can he work to acheive a one america when he already beleives we are a "one america"? His statement above doesn't work with his campaign speeches

melinda   January 30th, 2008 3:04 pm ET

Hello all you dems

Do you really think the Hillary will win a national election?? NO WAY !!
Barack Obamas time has come-lets stop all the pickering and win the white house. My children and grandchildren can't afford another republican!!!

LEIGH   January 30th, 2008 3:02 pm ET

I DON'T THINK THEY SHOULD ALLOW BILL CLINTON TO DO WHAT HE IS DOING. WE ALL KNOW THAT THE U.S LOVES HIM, BUT GIVE ME A BREAK. IT LOOKS LIKE HE IS RUNNING FOR A THIRD TERM AND HILLARY IS CAMPAINING FOR HIM. HE SHOULD STOP WHAT HE IS DOING AND LET HILLARY CAMPAIGN FOR HERSELF. YOU DON'T SEE ANYBODY ELSES SPOUSE DOING THAT, SO WHY SHOULD BILL CLINTON BE ALLOWED TO. THIS IS RIDECOLOUS. GO HOME BILL!

Cormac   January 30th, 2008 3:01 pm ET

For me Obama/Edwards would be the ideal ticket. Two idealists who are sincere in wishing to build a new future for this country. Very inspiring!

Annie   January 30th, 2008 3:01 pm ET

John Edwards, you are young enough to do eight years of Obama/Edwards and then do Edwards/jimwebb or edwards/other democrat.

How about it???

Sharon   January 30th, 2008 3:00 pm ET

Americans are so forgetful and/or naive. Don't you remember the last Presidential race? Kerry and Edwards worked very hard to discredit each other, trying to show America that THEY were the right man for the job. And when the bell rang, they shook hands and Edwards became Kerry's running mate.

It's all a big game, guys. It's just like the defense attorney and the prosecutor going out for a beer after the big case is over. Clinton doesn't hate Obama, and Obama doesn't hate Clinton.

Personally, I was all for Edwards the last time around until he made a comment to a Southern audience that reeked of "I hate Yankees." I don't want anyone for President who would favor one group over another. 9/11 should have taught us that we're not white/black, Southern/Northern, etc. We're all just Americans.

KR   January 30th, 2008 2:59 pm ET

NEWS FLASH:
Obama is from a virgin birth, and as such, should be adored. What? Yes, Obama's mama was white, yet we speak of him, and some shy from him because they slot him as african american. That makes him a virgin birth and he should be adored as we adore any product of virgin birth.
On a more serious note, it's interesting what folks want to ignore in making their points. We speak of a slumlord without speaking of Obama's years of affordable housing activism. Ask those who worked with him in Chicago how he feels about slumlords. We speak of Bill and his cigar adventure without speaking of Rudy G's three (that we know of) adulterous situations. We speak of Bush being anti-terrorist when he fought the establishment of the 911 commission so we could see what was really behind the tower remodelings.
I think those so hateful towards any of the candidates now are really scared of change. It scares them to shut the TV off, go out the door and work for change starting in their own hoods. If you do nothing else, admire the traditionally discriminated against as they face many barbs and arrows for simply wanting to serve in what has become a very smarmy office. If you really want to count, help the elected stand up to the lobbyists tactics. Many complaining about lobbyists' influence have no qualms about pushing corporate money at the candidates in their own name to keep their jobs.

politicaltiger   January 30th, 2008 2:58 pm ET

If you pay attention, you'll see how Hillary's supporters are still trying to use race against Obama. By saying things like "What a 'Player' obama is. And then listing all the wealthy black supporters Obama has.

Should we also list all the White supporters Hillary has?

Hillary will lose simply because blacks wont vote for her in the General. You watch.

dn   January 30th, 2008 2:57 pm ET

Cathy, I guess you support Hillary. I understand but Kennedy's endorsement is a very big thing to any Democrats. So when you cry like that, I suggest you change the channel

Gerald C, Madison, WI   January 30th, 2008 2:54 pm ET

I have seen a number of endorsements for Hillary Clinton published on CNN, most recently a Californian Congressman's. The fact is, Obama's endorsements are sexier: Sens. Kennedy and Kerry topping an impressive list of political heavyweights. Were Edwards to endorse Sen. Clinton, I am quite sure CNN and other media outlets would cover it exhaustively, as they would if Al Gore did the same.

Regarding the "Rich blacks endorsing" Obama comment, I would caution you to research further the idea behind your remarks. The founder of BET is a vociferous supporter of Sen. Clinton's, and just recently made news for his disparaging remarks against. Sen. Obama. He is also far richer than any of the Blacks named on a list I have seen here — unless, of course, "Oprah Winfred" Is actually "Oprah Winfrey."

D-MT   January 30th, 2008 2:53 pm ET

Edwards moving aside shows Obama's arrogance at its finest! The audacity! Edwards hasn't even handed him his support yet, and already Obama has his hook out there fishing for Edwards votees, hiding in the one America cloak that Edwards referred to in his speech. Obama makes me sick. The man is all talk, excuses, whining, and evidently bad manners. How in the world can he unite party lines or make one America when he can't even greet Hillary, a fellow running mate of the same party? He shows loyalty so far to gaining endorsements and delegates over visiting states where he can't get delegates, because evidently the people there don't matter. It's a shame that politics are just a game now, for big money and big status, and that the little people of the country really don't seem to be that important, we just seem to be pieces in the game and they want to win. Obama though really scares me, when a guy like that has little experience, all too much talk, all the media coverage, all the top democrats backing him, you have to ask what are they getting out of it, and why are they trying to pump him up so quickly as if the race has already been won when it is so far from over? There's something fishy and he doesn't get my vote, anyone in my family's vote, and I can almost guarantee none of my neighbors' votes as far as I can tell from conversations in get togethers. We are in Texas, a red state usually, but we are blue for Hillary this year and plan to do what we can to keep Obama OUT, shame on the media for giving this guy so much credit when he hasn't done anything credit worthy.

lamar   January 30th, 2008 2:49 pm ET

Dave Stir, you took the words right out of my mouth. I usually vote Republican as well, but Obama has my vote. I'm so tired of the same old politics. It is refreshing to see a candidate that has the potential to bring about "CHANGE."

Petey   January 30th, 2008 2:49 pm ET

Sorry Deb, but Obama's supporters AREN'T mainly wealthy african americans. Nice try to be dismissive of change though!

not a secretary   January 30th, 2008 2:49 pm ET

People that support Hillary Clinton are typically uneducated women. Secretaries supporting secretaries. Clinton supporters believe that sitting beside a president as a secretary builds experience. The fact that Clinton sat on an environmental board for Walmart or could not get a Senate seat in Arkansas never resonate with these secretaries that flock to the polling booths. Clinton wants to build an administrative empire and she is doing it with her secretarial lemming supporters.

KR   January 30th, 2008 2:47 pm ET

I'm sorry, but a guy who gets a $400 haircut isn't the kind of guy who comes from a poor backround and cares about the poor. Those who knew him know that it wasn't true that they had almost nothing when he was a kid. The election is unfolding as it should. The right ones are dropping out daily.

Arizona Democrat!   January 30th, 2008 2:47 pm ET

Why are you puppets judging these candidates by who is supporting them, or how much money is behind them?. People, think for yourselves! Make a decision based on the individuals past accomplishments.
Clearly the candidates RECORDs speak for themselves. Ask yourselves, what did Hillary accomplish in her bid as a senator? Nothing stands out. Just as in her campaign for senate, her campaign for president is just a bunch of what she thinks you want to hear. She certainly is a good researcher and will say anything that the polls indicate what Americans want to hear. Ask anyone from Illinois or N.C. respectively, about Obama or Edwards and you will hear a list great things they accomplished for their state. Obama and Edwards surely can do for the USA what needs to be done!

Anonymous   January 30th, 2008 2:45 pm ET

Obama is so incredibly graciouse.
He is exactly wht this country needs.

TJ   January 30th, 2008 2:45 pm ET

Cathy45   January 30th, 2008 2:42 pm ET

I can't believe Hillary! Hillary keeps changing the rules and agreements. Is that the kind of President that America wants? She made an agreement to not to campaign in FL and MI. She knew that those delegates will not be counted. But she change again, just like the war. Again, she keeps acting so un-presidential. She would never win against John McCain.

John   January 30th, 2008 2:41 pm ET

3 days to NH primary obama was well ahead in nearly all the polls. Then CNN started showing events in Kenya including visits to obama's grandmother. 3 days later obama suprisingly lost NH. They tried it again 1 day to Nevada caucuses. It also worked. They tried it again before, SC's primary: this time it failed. Why?, Americans are smarter than that. We are a much better people than our critics over the world gives us credit for. We read the hand writing on the walls. We discerned the hypocricy of the CNN. CATHY, you see why I am surprised at your comment on CNN's biase. If any, CNN is for Hillary.
Still indoubt? Its CNN that is playing the race issue and they are the one blowing it out of proportion. CNN's thought is that SC will be the last victory for obama. Again, Americans are smarter than that. the 60 -100 years age group may be racist, but the 18 – 59 age group are not. For me, I will vote for the best candidate in November.

Medi Marah   January 30th, 2008 2:41 pm ET

Obama is a very fine, gifted and charismatic leader and I can see u put this in action once you are at the oval office….keep the good job and may God be with you!

Tom, San Diego   January 30th, 2008 2:41 pm ET

Obama and Edwards would be one of the best President/VP combos in the history of our country. Obama is a good human being that is getting unfairly labeled by Hilary supporters. Those that are judging him so harshly have probably done far less to help our country than he has done.

mjr17   January 30th, 2008 2:40 pm ET

where is hillary's statement? CNN stop giving Obama free press

Dave Stir, TX   January 30th, 2008 2:37 pm ET

Looks like CNN is afraid to publish my input !

I tend to vote Republican. Then a man came along who really was outside the fray, a man who had not been tarnished by DC, and had the correct upbringing to focus on people instead of money. A man who represents no single color, race, religion or creed. That man is Obama. I am proud to say that I am definitely voting for this well-deserving Democrat in 2008 ! Hopefully countless Republicans will join me in voting in their state's Democratic primary or caucus and ensure Obama leads us to unity as One United States again ! I implore Democrats to follow suite. I don't hate Hillary, it's just long overdue that we get rid of the Bush/Clinton Dynasty and bring-in someone who is fresh and new (by the way, Edwards would make a great VP for Obama if you want to beat the GOP in November ) !

Grayson   January 30th, 2008 2:36 pm ET

My Vote is for "Anyone in 2008 EXCEPT Obama!!!!"

"ANYONE" Sounds ridiculous, or is it just jealously? We see how productive we've been having "anyone" in office. Can you say George Bush? This is the type of thinking that Americans need to leave in the past, cutting off our noses to spite our faces. Instead find common bonds, hence the name "United" States. Just when we encounter the real possibility of positive change for all, the crab in the barrel syndrome kicks in. PREFERRING TO EXCERCISE YOUR VOTE AGAINST YOURSELF AND YOUR ECONOMIC AND CIVIL INTEREST IN ORDER TO HOLD BACK OR HARM ANOTHER GROUP OF PPL is STUPID. This country would be nothing without the efforts of ALL THE PEOPLE BLACK, LATINO, WHITE, INDIAN, ASIAN ETC. GET A GRIP AND EMBRACE A NEW WAY OF LIVING OR MOVE SOME PLACE ELSE WHERE EVERYONE IS JUST LIKE YOU. FEAR AND CONTROL WILL LEAD TO OUR NATIONS DOWN FALL AS IT HAS MANY OTHER NATIONS.

John   January 30th, 2008 2:35 pm ET

I believe John as a vice president and Obama as a president would be the best combination than Hillary/John. it seems Obama and John have more intention to make a difference in the country than running for just a sit to sit on it.
Also, Obama/ Ted Kennedy will work fine. experience and wisdom.

Art H   January 30th, 2008 2:27 pm ET

I think among the networks, CNN (except for extremely biased coverage leaning towards Obama from Suzanne Malveaux) has been pretty fair and balanced for the most part.

I could not believe it yesterday, when MSNBC completely blanked out the fact that 2 million American citizens (democrats) headed to the polls yesterday in Florida, and cast their preference for the democratic nominee and MSNBC did not even provide a small window on their screen to acknowledge that. Even Fox News (along with CNN) covered the republican and the democratic race, with the caveat that since there are no delegates for the democrats (based on the diktat from the DNC), this would not impact the delegate count. The Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews duo were constantly badgering Hillary and propping up Obama, as they have been doing these past several months. Another one of those biased newscasters is Norah O'Donnell, who was literally asked to tone down the rhetoric by California congresswoman Maxine Waters yesterday.

I think this extremely biased news coverage will have a severe backlash from the public, come Super Tuesday and beyond and will favor Hillary in a big way.

Cliff CA   January 30th, 2008 2:27 pm ET

That's an interesting photo of Obama patting John's arm in a friendly fashion. Anyone remember what Obama was saying? I do. He said, ". . .and John, you'll win the white male vote".

Eli Stone   January 30th, 2008 2:26 pm ET

One thing can unite the Republican party, to give them the cause they so desperately need right now—-Hillary/Bill Clinton. If Democrats put Hillary as the nominee, they will once again lose the Whitehouse. Republicans are foaming at the mouth with anticipation for this to occur. Obama is their only chance and the best hope to unite this country. But, as usual, Democrats are stuck in the past and will probably blow it again.

BTW–I am white, wealthy and support Obama. He isn't near the player that Bill and Hillary are. They are playing you right now.

Dona Slisky   January 30th, 2008 2:26 pm ET

Wish you the best John Edwards….Keep ONE AMERICA alive! Obama

Nicole   January 30th, 2008 2:26 pm ET

Why is it that Hillary supporters can be so dogmatic and complaining? Obama snubbed Hillary! Obama is a media hog! Obama is this and that!
Take a note from the Obama supporters and rise above the fray. At least Obama supporters are focusing on the positive potential of their candidate and that is their primary message.
It is so true, change is hard. There will be those who will be kicking and screaming all the way to the promiseland. Oh well. If that's the way they want it, so be it . But remember even if it does not come with a Obama victory, it is coming. Like it or not!

Natasha   January 30th, 2008 2:23 pm ET

CNN has always been my source source for political information, but as this 2008 primary season continues I am growing more and more frustrated with the kinds of articles and information that is being presented here and on television. I can handle the fact that Obama is doing a better job managing his campaign than Clinton right at the moment.

But, every single time CNN opens its gray-haired mouth it is to say something nice about Obama and every single time CNN discusses Clinton its in the darkest most obnoxious terms. Honestly, I don't know who's being more annoying right now – Clinton or the way CNN presents Clinton. You have to remember that when you throw your support behind a candidate you risk alienating other viewers that support an opposing candidate. If I thought CNN was even coming close to covering this election in an unbiased fashion I would continue to watch without reservation.

Who cares if you have the Kennedy's support if you have an entire media station devoted to presenting Obama in the best of terms? Let's hear a sarcastic round of applause for CNN! Those of you who mention Hillary's 3 minute conversation with Wolf last night are missing the greater picture – its how CNN reporters and anchors talk about Obama that is frustrating to those supporters from the Hillary campaign. Its like watching the World Series while broadcaster's repeatedly talk about the players on one team and say nothing good about players on the other team.

When Hillary won in Florida last night I looked all over the CNN page for a news link. But, guess what? There isn't one. Now why would that be? One could argue that it doesn't effect the race in terms of delegates, but as far as momentum her win in Florida is very significant. Hmmm… wonder why it wasn't reported? They spent all of 10 minutes covering it on television during the Floriday Primary. As a matter of discourse her face hasn't been on the Top Stories bar for at least a week, and when links have been there – they have been to discredit her. She has been slammed repeatedly by CNN for Bill Clinton's involvement in her campaign. Funny… but I went and checked out MSNBC last night to see how their reporting stands up and was surprised to discover videos relating to the increasing investigation of Obama and Rescoe. Wonder why CNN hasn't reported that? Hmmmm.

It might feel good to be winning on CNN, but isn't this the same type of manipulation and political dirty tricks that Obama promises he is going to put an end to? So much for change! Obama 0 for 1. Looks like he's the same as every other presidential candidate! What a surprise!

Stamford   January 30th, 2008 2:22 pm ET

Journalism at it's worst. CNN, cover the candidates with equal time. This is a disgrace.

Hate to say it, but Senator Obama is no different from any other politician.

If the presidential race comes down to Mr. McCain and Barack Obama, my vote will be for Mr. McCain. I've never voted Republican but in this case I will since Ms. Clinton is my first choice above any of the other canditates.

Ms. Clinton seems to have lost support of some of the most liberal politicians only because she is a woman and she is white. There goes the best and most qualified candidate this presidential race has.

Hillary's game of politics resembles what our current president did to Sen. McCain when they were both running for the Republican nomination. I realize politics can get dirty, but the nation is getting sick of that. We need to take this country in a new direction with a respectable, youthful leader like Obama to regain some respect internationally.

Casey   January 30th, 2008 2:17 pm ET

Hopefully this isn't a precurser. What is amazing is that it seems that of all the fantastic people who have supported/endorsed Obama- and some fantastic people have- Clinton is still so very strong.

Had a fifth of these endorsements gone the other way, Obama himself would be a non factor. Clinton's resilience is nothing short of amazing.

Benjamin   January 30th, 2008 2:14 pm ET

Oh sure, Clinton received plenty of coverage concerning her "win" in Florida, but every bit of it mocked and chastised her.

Martin got on to slam Clinton, and when other panelists tried to make any arguement that some of the numbers should be considered, Martin interrupted them and told them to be quiet so he could finish ripping Clinton. That's not the type of fair and balanced coverage Clinton deserves.

And Clinton made comments about Edwards a couple hours ago, but I STILL don't see a summary.

Melissa   January 30th, 2008 2:12 pm ET

I don't hate Hillary, it's just long overdue that we get rid of the Bush/Clinton Dynasty and bring-in someone who is fresh and new (by the way, Edwards would make a great VP fo Obama if you want to beat the GOP in November ) !

Carol's comment was so good I thought it should be repeated:

Carol January 30, 2008 11:45 am ET

Oh good grief, does this blowhard never shut-up. I am so sick of having him crammed down my throat by the media.

Thanks CNN for continuing promoting this guy. Is he just to cheap to pay for his own advertising? We all know the media loves their little darling… Ugh…. I think I just vomited a little. I can't wait to vote.

E in WI   January 30th, 2008 2:08 pm ET

Stop crying Cathy.

Jeff Schenkel   January 30th, 2008 2:08 pm ET

Many of the people posting here have no idea what they are talking about. Head over to MSNBC and they only have a link talking about Obama speaking kindly of Edwards.

Maybe, just maybe, Hillary hasn't had anything to say about Edwards and that is why it hasn't been reported.

EJ   January 30th, 2008 2:06 pm ET

Well, Cathy…..if you're sick of reading and listening to CNN, don't post here and go listen to Fox…….you know, the "fair and balanced" news coverage :)

Nick Ann Arbor, MI   January 30th, 2008 2:06 pm ET

Obama… take Edwards as your VP. You would be unstoppable.

TT   January 30th, 2008 2:06 pm ET

Way to go Obama, keep saying things you THINK people want to hear!! I am not listening, I think you are a weak candidate. Go Hillary!!!

Donna   January 30th, 2008 2:04 pm ET

Obama will make a GREAT president with John Edwards as the vice president. I'm hoping that Edwards will support Obama, put his bid in as vice president, and clean up this country together. Out with the old, in with the new. We need a CHANGE.

anthony   January 30th, 2008 2:03 pm ET

Dont worry Hillary and Bill supporters. Bill and Hillary will be back in the news again very very very very soon with all their scandals and dirty tricks again. I dont understand these two people dirt and scandals seems to follow them. They are too ambitious very power. They will sale their dignity and self respect to win. I use to be supporters of them but now I can see why the Republicans have so much comtempt towards them. If the Clintons win the nomination watch how all that dirt be brought back up again

Jeff the Black Guy   January 30th, 2008 2:02 pm ET

GK

You aren't very smart either. You and Deb should talk. Wealth pertains to "old money" from families who most Americans don't and won't ever hear about. Families whose wealth can be traced all the way back to the founding of this country. This lists of prominent black figures that you wrote is a group of "rich" black people whose lump sum of money doesn't equal the amount of money that a true wealthy individual has. Its people like you and Deb who are responsible for this America, an America that is run by a man who is an absolute joke. Get it together and get it right.

Scott, Royal Oak, MI   January 30th, 2008 2:02 pm ET

Cathy, perhaps that has something to do with the fact that Obama is racking up huge endorsements (i.e. the Kennedys). If the endorsements are from more influential people, they will get more press coverage. Period.

Anne-Los Angeles   January 30th, 2008 2:01 pm ET

Senator Clinton also made a statement…………CNN – were are her comments???

Maybe if everyone threatens to vote for anyone against the news media and the failed attempt at coverage…we would all win. This is sad!!!!!!!!!

This is truly just trying to feed the public what 'they' want us to hear or read. Thank goodness we all have a brain and can see through this mess.

Forrest   January 30th, 2008 2:01 pm ET

Okay, so Edwards asks Clinton and Obama to talk more about poverty now that he's bowing out. Both candidates say yes. Obama follows through on his promise, and people attack him for it?

How DARE he keep his word!

who cares what black support Obama….who wrote that crap-the list? stupid…just stupid…..if white america is anything like what I've seen in the last 8yrs we are in trouble. The republican party should be our enemy not each other. regardless.of what we see on t.v we need to make up our own minds……who cares what cnn/msmbc/ruch limbaugh/oprah/ellen…pay attention to the issues and each candidate. I don't care who supports each one….I go in the booth alone …..ALSO, stop talking about unfair coverage…do you know how many compalints i could have about media coverage with minorities….welcome to the camp……I don't watch the crap anymore because I don't wanbt anyone to influence who I vote for …remember you go to the booth alone! stop complaining !

one opinion   January 30th, 2008 2:00 pm ET

me too.. cannot listen CNN coverage anymore. I stopped to watch CNN on tv, and soon it will be the political part of the site, unless they become fair to all.
They allow to put up all those nasty, name calling, insulting comments.

To Amy R.   January 30th, 2008 2:00 pm ET

Amy R. that is not true. a president can only serve two terms and there is a provision which states that if a president filled out his two terms, he or she cannot run for V.P Speaker or anything else. Besides neither the Supreme Court nor the Congress, or even the people would allow that to happen.

Paula in VA   January 30th, 2008 1:59 pm ET

Some of you are saying "Hillary is the best candidate" but you can't list anything She of her husband did while they were in office.

Barack was always civil and respectful towards Edwards. He is not being nice now to get his supporters votes, people.

C-dogg, CO   January 30th, 2008 1:59 pm ET

Thanks for the thoughts, LL. And seriously, everyone…. We are ALL (unless there are some Republican supporters out there trying to sabotage any democratic bid for the white house) Democrats from the sound of things, and thus we ALL have similar interests and ideas as to how to take control of our country and make it the place that it should be. Thus we should be working TOGETHER to determine who we think has the best policy, and stop this senseless ego-based form of argument that ultimately gets us nowhere.

If you think Hilary has a better plan for healthcare than Obama, then point that out and say why. The same goes for any issue. Let's shift our focus from "my candidate is better than yours, so there" to the real issues. We have got to come together–otherwise we won't get anywhere.

bobby   January 30th, 2008 1:58 pm ET

in the end, you will be reduced to voting for the same thing regardless of the name, race or gender that's attached to it. your choice will be between two indistinguishable politicos, whose only job is to effectively implement an agenda handed to them by big business. it's the american way.

Marie   January 30th, 2008 1:58 pm ET

Well — this is a sad day for me. I truly believe John Edwards was the best of the Democratic candidates, and the only one worth voting for.

I felt so strongly about it I was planning to do something unprecedented — go to my caucus and cast my vote for Edwards. I was even willing to stand as a delegate for Edwards, even though I would have been uncomfortable getting so involved in the caucus system. I don't like the caucus system, and I've never participated in a caucus before (though I always vote in the actual elections). Now I won't bother, because I can't in good conscience vote for either Clinton or Obama.

As for the presidential election — well, it's now for the Republicans to convince me which one of them I'll vote for, or if I'll write Ron Paul in on the ticket. Or if I'll just stay home in Nov. too.

Tony   January 30th, 2008 1:58 pm ET

Why don't CNN talk about HIL? His wrong doing with his his close friend? He always talk about judgement, then why can't he judge his close friend? Why does he use drug? I think it is very important for CNN to talk about issue. This is very important to American, and CNN should let the American decide who is the best candidate based on their plan and background.

Sudhir   January 30th, 2008 1:54 pm ET

I do not care who you are supporting, but vote against the Bush-Clinton era. Are we that short of leaders that we have to be continued to be ruled by these 2 families? Who next after Hillary? Jeb Bush or Chelsea Clinton?

IF WE DONT VOTE FOR OBAMA….ITS A RACE ISSUE

MAYBE OBAMA IS JUST NOT QUALIFIED…..YET….TO BE

PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES AND IT ENTAILS

REMEMBER THIS IS A ONE TERM SENATOR IN OFC FOR 2 YEARS SO FAR

BECUZ WE DONT VOTE FOR OBAMA ITS NOT RACE…OBAMA IS

NOT QUALIFIED AT THIS POINT…AND ITS A CRITICAL POINT FOR US!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Obama-President
Edwards-VP
Clinton-Secretary of State

I have never seen such a biased bunch of "Political Experts" in my life!!You people are for Obama and the general public sees it that way too. Just how much do you change in your other reporting? This will never be a level playing field with reporting such as yours…Go Hillary…all the way to the Whitehouse!!!

im still trying to figure out how 2 terms as first lady and a term as first lady of arkansas makes you extremely experienced to run the country???

David   January 30th, 2008 1:44 pm ET

To Jason in SC – knucklehead – Rezko is NOT a non-issue. He was accepting funds from him while he knew he had been indicted. He only gave the money back when he (Obama) was called on it. Not to mention that he was pushing bills that would be favorable to Rezko. As a senator he shouldn't be buying property 300K below the market value. He spent time in the state senate and has been in Washington DC for 3 years – where is the change? Also, Kerry and Kennedy his big supporters marked their personal earmarks towards small private airports that are situated near their personal vacation homes – smells like old politics if you ask me. Furthermore, if Clinton had called Obama the Senator from Punjab they would have asked for his head.

Then the pundits say the Kennedy vote will have impact on the latinos – seems to me that the latinos in Florida overwhelmingly voted for Hillary – don't say, 'oh, they don't know who Obama is' – check the facts – Obama advertised in Florida when the others didn't. He came up with a lame excuse that he had to because the company he purchased his ads from said it was a requirement. If Hillary had done that folks would have been screaming for her head.

Obama supporters are fools.

Whose had Enough   January 30th, 2008 1:40 pm ET

John Edwards made the right decision today. He ran the hardest and most honest campaign.

I'm still voting for John Edwards on Feb. 5th – Super Tuesday.

Peter   January 30th, 2008 1:40 pm ET

Okay. I really want to say one think here. If the democrat wants to win big comes November they have to join Hillary and Obama. These 2 have a lot of supporter and Edard can be their third person in the White House.

Remember what happened to Kerry Eward can't fight hard for vote as Vice President.
That is the truth guys .
Clinton maybe bad for the job, but she will be nice as a Vice to Obama. That way Bill will not have any change to become vice President .
Please think about this very seriously.

robert   January 30th, 2008 1:39 pm ET

Edwards went out respectfully…I can not say the same about how Obama has run his campaign….Edwards was change, Obama is rhetoric and lies.

Cathy   January 30th, 2008 1:38 pm ET

I must agree with many of the comments already posted. CNN's news coverage of this race is really bad. They do not print any Clinton or Edwards endorsements only Obama. When are they going to finally announce CNN endorses Obama. I am sick of reading and listening to CNN.

D. Morris, Calgary, Alberta   January 30th, 2008 1:38 pm ET

Hey – all you folks crying that Clinton has not had her Edwards response queried by CNN and that CNN is promoting Obama – GROWUP! CNN has been pretty good in general but if you missed it last night… Clinton received huge (undue) coverage for "winning" Florida. CNN shows Florida and Michigan as wins in her column and she gets coverage and credit for these non-things everytime you look to CNN. Clinton supporters are much too much like Clinton – if it's not ALL about them/Clinton then it's somehow wrong or stacked against them. OMG – why don't some of you engage your own critical thought process and realize that Clinton is a sure way to hand things back to the Republicans! Eventhough I am more naturally oriented to the Republican side I can see the need to take at least one 4-year cycle under the Democrats. However, with a legitimate leader like Obama. Clinton is capable and intelligent and has much to offer BUT NOT a viable presidential option. Try to suspend emotion for a moment and be a little brighter than Bush.

Mary Barbara   January 30th, 2008 1:37 pm ET

Will we ever get beyond the fact that some people are Black? That’s just the way it is; some are also tall, skinny or even fat, get over it. Obama for President, Edwards for Vice President, and Hillary for Secretary of State. I think that would be good for America, and it would make a great impact on the international community. "Yes We Can".

Hillary Clinton didn't know what else to do so her husband decided to start playing DIRTY politics, so disgusting to see that people in this day still cant' see the same. Hillary and Bill know there are ignorant people out there who still see color, so they played that card. The whole "I'd rather vote for a WHITE woman"I also wonder, who's running, Bill or Hillary. I'm hispanic btw.

I feel it's time for a Presidential Dream Team. Obama for President and Edward should be his Vice President Edwards. Togather they can focusing on the domestic rebuilding and restoring America's relationship abroad. Let put a ticket togather that can work for all America. Our former President Clintion was a good president for his time and Hillary is not the Hier to lead this country she is a nice lady with interresting qualities but Bill can't have a third term.

The only times she goes to a _ Church is when want the votes? Why don't she just go to church to praise God. I never her pray to God for leadership. America is in need of healing. I spent over 20 years in the United States Navy and served our country an I endorsing Obama. I am a true Navy Veteran and member of American Legion and I endorse Obama for President.

Michelle, AL   January 30th, 2008 1:32 pm ET

From Time magazine online.. CNN, are you going to moderate some of your own writers?

There's something peculiar going on with Matthews and this Democratic primary. A lot of people have said there's a sexist or misogynistic tone to his criticism of Hillary, and I do think Matthews' political views are colored by a very male-centric view of politics and personalities. (Is there a more male title on television than Hardball?) But for Matthews last night, it was not the boys against the girls. It was the Good Sixties versus the Bad Sixties. Mad Men versus The Wonder Years. It is probably true, as Andrew Sullivan says, that younger Obama voters want in part to reject a political dialogue dictated by the grievances of Baby Boomers. But Matthews is talking here about moving the dialogue even farther back, to the Sinatra-era Sixties, before everyone got smelly, let their hair go and listened to Joe Cocker.

To the punditocracy's credit, we haven't reached the heights of the post-Iowa swoon yet. Nobody's wondering how soon Hillary will drop out, and you have to imagine that the media haven't totally forgotten the lessons of New Hampshire already. Still, it's hard not to see that the punditocracy embraces bad news for Hillary and good news for Obama more eagerly than the opposite.

Call me cynical, but I wonder if the Obama campaign has thought about making this media dynamic part of their electability argument. The press has a famously contentious relationship with the Hillary Clinton campaign and a famously cozy one with John McCain, who has a good shot at being the Republican nominee. "Barack Obama: Because the press is even more in the tank for us than for John McCain!" Surely there's a way of making that into a catchy bumper sticker.

Al, Los Angeles, CA   January 30th, 2008 1:32 pm ET

Society Of Common Sense, take a pill. Not everything is about race. Anyone with common sense knows, every candidate will release a statement when a major candidate drops out.

Amy, your statement is based on nothing. Pound for pound their ideas are very close. Both are senators (though Obama has more experience as a senator). Both have never been the sr executive of a political branch (not mayor, not gov, not prez).

Hillary has been in politics longer, but that has no relation to running the country.

Bill Clinton said to George Bush Sr., "There is little value in old experience."

With a democratic Senate & Congress, Obama as president will have support to accomplish things for America.

Republicans are so jealous of Hillary, they will do anything to slow her down as president.

That's the difference that I see.

Barackthevote   January 30th, 2008 1:32 pm ET

President Obama and Vice President Edwards, and if John Edwards starts going to rally with Obama this Democratic race is over.

redneck in nyc   January 30th, 2008 1:32 pm ET

obama is a "blowhard"? compared to whom?…i'm a white guy from south carolina, and the turnout there proves that he inspires people who have never felt represented by thier own govt. i voted for bill twice, but this is 2008, and the clintons have had thier day. Sure, it would be great to have a woman in the white house, but no one wants 2 presidents. i agree with jimmy carter, that obama would have an instant, profound effect AROUND THE WORLD as a symbol of change. if you dont think the rest of the world is that important, then you should vote republican. edwards is a great guy, who should be the present vp, but he is right to drop out. the best thing the US can do is put our dirty, white-dominated past behind us.

VikingBerserker   January 30th, 2008 1:32 pm ET

Folks, I think we have just read the very first article put out by CNN that did not state Obama was Black.

I think Obama was just being sincere, and I honestly believe that if Edwards had stated he was supporting Hillary, he would have still said the same thing.

I'm a hardcore Republican, but I have to admit I have some admiration for him as I think he has been pretty honest. He stated he used drugs when he was younger. He did not say anything about not inhaling or not absorbing it into his blood stream. When asked about his faults he was again honest, though I did enjoy his comment that if he knew how he was supposed to have answered that question like the other candidates, he would have said helping old ladies crossing the street.

If McCain and Obama both get nominated, I think it's the first time in a LOOOOONG time that we get to pick the better of the 2 and not the lesser of 2 evils.

MJF   January 30th, 2008 1:32 pm ET

"In all fairness, did Cnn even bother to ask Hillary Clinton to comment on Edwards departure? "

That's hilarious! I can just picture the Hillary campaign machine sitting around patiently waiting for CNN to ask their opinion of Edwards departure. I'm pretty sure she get's to pump out comments on whatever she wants, whenever she wants to. And her shrillness will be heard.

michael   January 30th, 2008 1:32 pm ET

well american .wake up this country need change and face it obama 's our chance .this is your one chance in life so so get it right support obama

MarkieBee   January 30th, 2008 1:31 pm ET

To Deb…your ignorance is telling and reveals you to be the Hillary sock puppet you are. Obama's supporters are wealthy? Tell that to the small family farmer in Iowa, tell that to the struggling college student across this nation, tell that to the poor African American single mother in South Carolina. Tell that to the white people who voted for him living in rural Nevada. Tell that crap to more than 600,000 individual donors who have given his campaign $5, $10, $100. He has more individual donors than Hillary and Edwards combined. Wealthy supporters? You want to talk about wealthy supporters? How did Rupert Murdoch give money too? Which candidate has received the most money from lobbyists and special interest groups including Big Pharma, Big Insurance and defense contractors? None of those people are poor. Just an asinine comment Deb.

Michelle, AL   January 30th, 2008 1:31 pm ET

Does it bother any of you that Obama supports driver's licenses for illegal immigrants?

How will that fly in the election, since 75% of Americans disapprove of it? As NY Gov. Spitzer about how popular that idea is.

PJC   January 30th, 2008 1:29 pm ET

Many of the comments posted here are, I believe, examples of the political mindset and tone that so repulses many who are drawn to Sen. Obama's candidacy. Visceral, mean spirited and petty attacks on Obama's personal character, accusations of some sort of conspiracy to deny Sen. Clinton press coverage, attacks on the intelligence or ethics of Obama supporters; these are examples of the politics of personal destruction, in Bill Clinton's excellent phrase, that many feel are poisoning our politics. Postings attacking Clinton supporters for equally petty and mean spirited reasons are no better.

For a many of us, an important part of the appeal of Sen. Obama is that we believe he is may be more capable of rising above that type of dialogue, and can get us to a place where the vast majority of Americans can work together on common goals. For us, that is what we think the country needs now. It is a key part of the vision of our desired shared future. That Sen. Clinton may be less able to do that is a function of her history, her past practice and what appears to be her honest belief about what is needed to be President.

That doesn't have to mean that Sen. Clinton doesn't have the skills to be an effective leader. There are more than one kind of good and strong leader. The ability to inspire and carry out the necessary discussions of politics without falling into old traps of personal attacks on those that offer differing ideas; this is one sort of leader. Experience and competence in the ways of national government is a solid basis for another kind of leadership.

There is no logical reason to denigrate one kind of leader, or his or her supporters, simply because you may conclude that the times call for different type of leader.

Mike   January 30th, 2008 1:28 pm ET

I'm going to support Ron Paul to the end, but if he can't make it I sure as heck won't vote for "big business" Romney, "bomb bomb bomb" McCain, or "bomb their shrines" Huckabee.

I would definitely go for an Obama/Edwards ticket over "can't trust a word I say" Hillary.

The races are getting very narrow. I sure hope we don't end up with a "lesser of two evils" election again (ie: Hillary vs McCain).

My Opinion   January 30th, 2008 1:26 pm ET

People support the candidate that they think can do something for them, not you, you, or you, THEM. Did you ever think that those wealthy African Americans that are supporting Hillary think they have something to gain by supporting her? Nothing in life is free not even votes. Hell, Even the black minister from New York Rev. Dr. Calvin Butts that came out and endorsed Hillary on MLK weekend received 1 million dollars for a project. That's fact.

Cristina   January 30th, 2008 1:25 pm ET

Michiel   January 30th, 2008 1:24 pm ET

I just heard Hillary Clinton's comments with regard to John Edwards dropping out and I must say, she has also dropped a few notches in my esteem, although she didn't jump as quickly as Obama. I am still voting for John Edwards on Tuesday! We still haven't heard from him directly. I think the media and the other candidates have a lot of gall to make their comments before he has even spoken. I have to say most of my scorn goes to the media, since this is the most coverage they have given to John Edwards in the entire campaign.

Liz   January 30th, 2008 1:24 pm ET

The big message from the Obamba camp is change. He's the messager of hope for the regular guy/gal, the one that doesn't have a voice. He can move the country foward into the future. So now that there are two Democratic candidates left we have the choice of a canidate with ties to the 1990s Clinton presidency or one to the 1960s Kennedy/MLK years. Some choice, some change. You go Obamba.

KKH   January 30th, 2008 1:23 pm ET

I could not chose between Obama and Edwards… Now its Obama… Although Obama/Edwards ticket would be a dream come true…

T M   January 30th, 2008 1:21 pm ET

I am glad to see that we have candidates on both sides of the aisle that have energized people across the country to get more involved in the political process. Be it a desire to stop a given person from reaching the White House or a firm pro candidate view-I'm just excited by the heightened interest level. I believe that we are at a turning point in America and the direction we choose is critical. We need more of this type of spirited dialogue throughout the country.

Debi   January 30th, 2008 1:20 pm ET

I'm surprised how quickly the Clinton "dirty" politics have been forgotten. Even "powerful, old-school politicians" are behind Obama. Doesn't that say something to those of you supporting the Clintons. Maybe you should do some more research.

So you say Hillary Clinton is better? Anyone who makes this statement in my opinion has been out of touch with reality or is too young to remember the Clinton presidency. Scandals ranging from money to sex and there dealings with it that being Hillary and Bill is nothing that I would want to witness again or my children to witness in there life time. 1. Good leaders know themselves. 2. Good leaders know they don't know everything. 3. Good leaders are committed. 4. Good leaders are open to change. 5. Good leaders go the extra mile. Even though Hillary contains some of these traits, Obama has exhibited all of these and more. He is articulate, intelligent and an excellent communicator which we have not seen in the white house since John F Kennedy and Ronald Regan, who would think I would include those two names in the same sentence.

He is articulate, intelligent and an excellent communicator which we have not seen in the white house since John F Kennedy and Ronald Regan, who would think I would include those two names in the same sentence.

Marly   January 30th, 2008 1:16 pm ET

Gina said it well. CNN does come across as having a bias. Just who agenda are were fulfillimg this election. Will electronic ballets be scewed for McCain too?

Jos   January 30th, 2008 1:16 pm ET

Obama/Edwards would be a perfect pair the US needs right now.
Go Obama/Edwards!!!

pete   January 30th, 2008 1:16 pm ET

no Amy I feel sorry for you …barrack offers hope to a hopeless person such as your self..and to the one who made the comment that wealthy blacks are supporting
Obama is false..last time I checked Bob Johnson(who is clearly in (Hillary Clintons pocket) is the wealthiest black man in the world. Its simple…the baby boomers have messed up this country and still want to continue doing so. Can you imagine that I will not be able to benefit from social security when I reach 62. So I you guys should just retire and allow for a new generation to lead this country and better yet the world.

AJ   January 30th, 2008 1:15 pm ET

wow you guys dont waste time … it seems like most folks that post seem to "know" the most but are the least informed… i prefered Edwards… Obama is my 2nd choice but no matter how it plays out i will most likely vote for the democratic candidate …some of you are a little too fanatic … both candidates have negatives… but i see more positive than negative in both of them

Patrick   January 30th, 2008 1:13 pm ET

I agree that CNN has a "romanticized fascination" with Obama and am increasingly angered over their bias. Clinton's many endorsements never get mentioned. Anderson Cooper and his pundits have a clear pro-Obama bias which is inappropriate and unfair. Last night they belittled her win in Florida adnauseum. If the results had been the other way around they would have been heralding an Obama victory in Florida, rather than dismissing the results as "laughable." Their dismissive attitude was an insult to all the democratic voters for all three candidates.

Vlad   January 30th, 2008 1:11 pm ET

I do hope Edwards is considered for VP, whoever the candidate. He's got the backbone and integrity and has his priorities straight. As for Obama praising his campaign – i see a lot of cynicism on this board. The man couldn't show appreciation for an honorable campaign and some universally accepted causes without being labeled a panderer.

I also think a lot of the Clinton/Obama war is media created. I believe Democrats are as unified this year as they have ever been and will come together and support the eventual nominee. Most understand the importance of this year's election.

Wally   January 30th, 2008 1:11 pm ET

Actually the move by Edwards will hurt Obama. Somehow, I feel Edwards has reached a VP deal with Clinton. Some of teh "White" democratic vote that was supposed to go to Edwards, will definitely go to Clinton.

Peter   January 30th, 2008 1:10 pm ET

Obama talking again and the media hanging on to his every word. Poll stats show 40% would go to Clinton and 25% (Fox) to Obama. Obama would need to pull over 60% of Edwards vote to have any impact on the trend in the popular vote. It is interesting to see Obama supporters denying the popular vote and celebrating the delegate vote when that is how they got screwed before. Some dems are going to be mad if the convention gives away their popular vote whoever it is.

LL Columbia, SC   January 30th, 2008 1:10 pm ET

If Democrats can't see that Obama is a much better candidate than Clinton, then I truly feel sorry for them.

Someone earlier wrote the same thing, but had Clinton and Obama reversed in the sentence's construction. That's what most of the posts here can be reduced to, platitudes and whining that can be about anyone in the race. You can just as easily substitute names and post the same comments if you happen to be for a different candidate.

Obama said some nice things that, from all indications, he actually meant. What is so wrong with that?

Zee   January 30th, 2008 1:09 pm ET

Why is everyone saying that CNN is biased towards Obama? When Hillary was ahead, everyone was saying that CNN was biased towards her. Obviously, CNN isnt biased towards anyone. Theyr'e the most fair news station out there.

Coby   January 30th, 2008 1:08 pm ET

TO ALL YOU PEOPLE WHO WONDER WHERE THE MEDIA COVERAGE OF THE CLINTONS ARE? THERE ISN'T ANY. THEY ARE OF NO INTEREST TO THE MEDIA. RATHER SYMBOLIC DONT YOU THINK. CLINTONS ARE PLAYED OUT. IF THE MEDIA WAS DOING NOTHING BUT COVERING THE CLINTONS THEN YOU WOULDN'T BE ASKING ABOUT OBAMA. STOP HATING AND BE HAPPY FOR HIM. I REPEAT THE CLINTONS ARE PLAYED OUT AND THE COUNTRY KNOWS IT. THEY'RE OLD NEWS. STOP HATING ON THE MAN BECAUSE HE BRINGS SOMETHING NEW TO THE TABLE. CLINTON SUPPORTERS ARE LOOKING FOR THE SAME OLE B.S. WE'VE HAD FOR THE LAST 16 YEARS. IM TYPING IN ALL CAPS BECAUSE I'M ELECTRONICALLY YELLING AT YOU IDIOTS.

Paullee357   January 30th, 2008 1:08 pm ET

murray   January 30th, 2008 1:08 pm ET

John and Elizabeth Edwards thank you for the message you have brought and the dignity with which you have delivered it. You have had and will continue to have my vote whatever you chose to do in the future.

AJ   January 30th, 2008 1:07 pm ET

Another flowery speech from the empty suit. How about telling us Obama just what exactly you intend to do for the poor? Obama is a sickening example of how an entire nation can get carried away by the words of a huckster. Who's bamboozled? Guess thats why the teenagers love him. They are the most gullable.

Beka   January 30th, 2008 1:06 pm ET

How many of you Hillary Supporters are actually GOPers in a pantsuit trying to trick poor innocent dems into Voting for Hillary so McCain can win?

This is genius! I think John Edwards is just as concerned about Hillary winning as the rest of us are and he is taking the sword! He is a real HERO! Do you think he would really support Hillary after she just stole the Florida Election? WHY DIDNT SHE ASK FOR THE DELEGATES TO BE SAT 6 MONTHS AGO???? How can you claim victory when you didnt compete? Especially in Michigan! She is no better than BUSH!

Besides if you add up all the non-HIllary votes she LOST by 20,000…BTW all the Edward Voters that will vote Dem will go to Barack and the rest that wont vote for Barack because of other reasons will go to McCain! They HATE HIllary more than Bill because of her role in Watergate and the Healthcare fiasco. Do NOT let them fool you!! Lets be smart like the Republicans are and VOTE for the one that WILL WIN!!!!

Trevor   January 30th, 2008 1:06 pm ET

YES WE CAN!!!!!!!! GO OBAMA.

A Soldier in GA   January 30th, 2008 1:06 pm ET

I get so tired of hearing this man's rhetoric and empty words. He reminds me of a Dave Chappelle comedy skit I saw one time where Dave Chappelle pretended he was the first black president and during a news conference just said a bunch of cliches and empty words that didn't make any sense.

I get that same feeling from Barrack Obama. I also have no respect for someone who, routinely, while making a speech, makes little to no eye contact with his audience. Instead he spends most of his time looking down at his speech. He comes across as being very fake.

I would love it if he could provide answers of substance, but instead he just shovels manure. He says a bunch of rhetoric to give people a warm fuzzy feeling and hopes that no one will actually take time to what he's not saying.

This speech, to me, is just more of the same. More of him rushing to get a sound bite, more of the media rushing to bow at his feet and throw rose petals under them.

I'm not impressed by him at all.

raouf   January 30th, 2008 1:06 pm ET

I've alaways admired Bill Clinton and could never understand the Republican antipathy for him but seeing how he and Hilary behaved on the campaigne trail has helped me to see the Republican's sentiment.

Toronto Girl   January 30th, 2008 1:05 pm ET

OBAMABOY stop kissing all these politician butts, and do what HILLARY is doing
which is paying attention to what is important to the American people.

Why do so many of you think that he's not sincere? Couldn't he be a breath of fresh air to the party? I can see it! Be positive.

John in Columbus, OH   January 30th, 2008 1:00 pm ET

I hope Obama finds a place for Edwards in his administration. He is a Champion of the people and doesn't sell out America by pandering to the Mexicans. The combo would be UNSTOPPABLE.

Former Clinton Supporter, now Obama Supporter.

Jeremiah Grant, Phoenix AZ   January 30th, 2008 1:00 pm ET

Obama might really bolster his support by reaching out to all of us disillusioned Conservatives who absolutely shudder at the thought of McCain carrying the mantle for our party.

We know he's not a Conservative either, but neither is McCain. At least with Obama we could vote for a new direction in Washington as opposed to more of the same.

Jen   January 30th, 2008 1:00 pm ET

Obama is playing the politics card. He did it to get Oprah, Ted Kennedy and John Kerry. He is trying it on John Edward. Oprah is not saying anything anymore – I think she realized the damage she has done to herself for campaigning for Obama.

lcb   January 30th, 2008 12:59 pm ET

Stephina, I couldn't agree with you more.

Every time I hear the code words, "uniter not a divider", I feel sick to my stomach. I will dare to say "hopefully" people will awaken from their deep sleep and seek substance, real solutions, experience, not just well written speeches. Another four years of an inexperience president I don't think we Americans can survive.

charlotte   January 30th, 2008 12:58 pm ET

Sucking up big time? Is this picture from the white guy comment?

RGV for Hillary   January 30th, 2008 12:58 pm ET

Once again, more face time for Obama. I was just watching CNN right now and they spent a lot more time on showing Obama in Kansas yesterday than they showed Hillary in Arkansas today. Why won't CNN just admit that they have endorsed Obama? And while they were showing Obama yesterday in Kansas, he was just talking about nonsense. Will he ever talk about the issues? Why can't people just see that he is just a preacher and motivational speaker? All he can talk about is change and hope. Give me a break Obama.

Jay   January 30th, 2008 12:58 pm ET

I feel sorry for you Amy.

JAM   January 30th, 2008 12:57 pm ET

Does this look like anything other than a "kiss up" by Obama? He sure didn't waste any time.

Obama may call himself an outsider, but he knows how to play the game. Make no mistake about it, he is just as slick as anyone else.

I wonder what the Edwards supporters think about this "speedy" move?

Edgar- Miami Beach   January 30th, 2008 12:57 pm ET

Why are we surprise about Obama's words, and soon Hillary's remarks? It is the same thing McCain is doing in the other side; now he is calling Giuliani "his best friend."

This is politics at it best, and all of them will say anything to get votes.

We, the voters, are the one who need to THINK, and do not follow the same story over and over.

When are we going to learn?

Concerned Voter   January 30th, 2008 12:56 pm ET

I hope that John Edwards changes his mind and stays in the race. If he does leave, we have all lost our best hope at getting something done in Washington. I for one hope he does NOT endorse Obama as I cannot get past the idea that CNN and all the other media focusing solely on Obama and not giving any attention to Edwards is the reason that Edwards cannot be heard.

Izu   January 30th, 2008 12:56 pm ET

Republicans can't wait to beat Hillary down. Democrats always nominate weak candidates. Look at the guys the Republicans might nominate.

Obama vs Mccain = Interesting campaign = hard choice for independents

Hillary vs any of the Republican candidates = Nasty campaign = Republicans back at the white house.

If the Democrats nominate Hillary it will proves the point that Democrats are weak weak party. They have no idea what they are doing.

And I can hear the Republican's name calling machine warming up. Kerry hasn't recovered. He's still flip flopping lol

Maggie   January 30th, 2008 12:55 pm ET

Obama is intellectual enough and strong enough to handle the White House. He has good ideas, and I believe he will stands by his words. That is not popular in Washington, after all Hilary has been tactless and disappointing. As a woman I was not happy with her taking jibes and taunting. If John Edwards chooses to endorse Obama, at least he will be endorsing someone who stands by his word.

Phyllis   January 30th, 2008 12:55 pm ET

If you are sick of the media shoving Senator Obama down your throat, turn off the TV. That's an easy fix. The fact remains that this man is trying to pull this country together, democratic and republican. Poor and wealthy. We have to get past our differences in order to move forward. We are never going to progress if we don't.

Here is a conspiracy theory for all of you….

Clinton was going to parade her win in Florida all the way to February 5 until Edwards dropped this bombshell…hmmm… just food for thought my friends

If you ask me…Obama is probably going to get slightly more than half of the Edward voters…but at the end…I think the split will be so close it won't make much of a difference….

…unless Edwards endorses Obama…

If you look back at the debates…I would say it is safe to say…no chance he'll endorse Clinton….if anything he may or may not endorse Obama…

GIVE OBAMA A BREAK YOU ALL ACT LIKE U FORGOT THAT OBAMA WAS THE LAUGHING STOCK TO WHITE AMERICA UNTIL HE PROVED YOU ALL WRONG NOBODY WANTS TO ADMIT THAT THE TRUE UNDERDOG REALLY OVERCAME, NOW YOU TRY TO INCLUDE HIM INTO THESE SUPREMACY WAYS, THIS MAN IS 50% BLACK & 50% WHITE. US BLACK PEOPLE CAN SEE THIS WHILE TO WHITE PEOPLE BECAUSE HE HAS A DROP OF AFRICAN BLOOD THAT JUST MAKES HIM AFRICAN AMERICAN, SHOWS YOU'RE TRUE THOUGH PROCESS AND DON'T FORGET THE CENSUS, THERES ONLY 34 MILLION BLACKS IN THIS COUNTRY COMPARED TO 211 MILLION WHITES.

LIKE TUPAC & DR.KING SAID THIS IS A COUNTRY FOUNDED BY WHITE PEOPLE FOR WHITE PEOPLE, SO IF OBAMA DOES WELL THEN GIVE HIM CREDIT AND HE INCLUDED EVERYONE FROM THE BEGINNING, HIS MESSAGE HASN'T CHANGED ONCE. YOU HAVE PEOPLE LIKE LOU DOBBS WHO WANTS SO BADLY TO OVERLOOK THIS WHEN THE TRUTH IS CLEAR, FURTHERMORE ALL OF THESE MEDIA PERSONNEL NEED TO SHOVE THEIR OPINIONS YOU KNOW WHERE, STOP BEING SO JEALOUS, YOU SHOULD'VE RAN FOR PRESIDENT IDIOT.

I am not American and my English is not thus so good, but he could not leave to express my opinion on the presidential elections in the United States of America. I so share the ideias of Senator Hillary Clinton and support its candidacy, because I find that it is a more-value for the American people whom she needs to leave it I suffocate the one that Bush put them. I believe that America is the biggest country of the world, but I am penalty that is dying in last the six years. Clinton senator is a cool air gust for the White House and the American people. Therefore I believe piously that it will be the nominated one of the democratical party for the presidential elections of this year.

Vote for
President = Hillary Clinton
VP = Obama
Secretary of State = Edwards

morgan k   January 30th, 2008 12:49 pm ET

Just imagine if people went against Sen. Obama in the coldblooded way they gang up on Sen. Clinton. People tried these tactics when she ran for Senator in New York, and then they grudgingly admitted that she is doing a very good job for this state, as shown by her being reelected in 2006.

Sen. Obama is indeed inspirational, but lacks any real experience to run the country with all its problems. No one would dare to criticize him, fearing a backlash tinging on accusations of racism. How sad for us as a country to have no problem fighting dirty against a woman who does not merit this, but fearing a negative response by making any comments against a man who's father happens to be African.

Unlike the media, I have great respect for both of these individuals, and would be proud to see either win the white house.

Why reduce oneself to be a bigot in any way?

John Edwards hasn't yet given his speech to leave the race and Obama is now fishing for Edwards supporters to support him.

A top Edwards aide said the former senator contacted Obama and Clinton on Tuesday, telling them he was considering dropping out of the race and asking them to make poverty a top issue of their campaigns and — if either reaches the White House — a central part of their administration.

Both candidates agreed, the aide said.

Obama is just living up to his word AS USUAL

Candi   January 30th, 2008 12:49 pm ET

Now it starts. Those who support the Clintons as the next president will now go into attack mode. This country has had enough of th Clinton B.S. A vote for the Clintons now is a vote for the Repuiblicans later. We cannot afford a continuation of this. Move foreward not backward. Anyone but Clintons.

Sunny   January 30th, 2008 12:49 pm ET

There appears to be a guy named Joe on these comments who is very much out of touch with the world as it is in 2008…enough of the Bush's and Clintons's. America: lets move on…support Obama..

Trish   January 30th, 2008 12:48 pm ET

My question to all you democrats that don't like Obama.. If Obama wins are you voting Republican or just not going to vote at all? If Hillary was never a "Clinton" do you think she would have got this far?

And for the record Deb, the Clintons have endorsements from many wealthy African American's (Magic Johnson, Will & Jada Smith and many more) as well as many African American Politicians.

Give Obama a break, you guys are mad because this is nomination is not going to come easy for Hill & Bill. IF Hill & Bill win, let them earn it……………………

Steve   January 30th, 2008 12:47 pm ET

I wonder how much money he spent on the campaign. The total amount probably could have served a better purpose, like giving him some more of those $400 haircuts.

We live in Two Americas: One that supports John Edwards, and one that lives in reality.

bernard, macon   January 30th, 2008 12:47 pm ET

Has anyone stopped to consider that if the Clintons are back in the White House then that means that this country will has been and will be, under the presidential rule of two families for 24 years? Is this where our country is right now? And the fact that they can convince some to think that there is nothing wrong with that, shows just how dumbed down this country has become. A vote for Hillary is no more than a vote for Bill. A vote for Obama is a vote for change. Not only here in our country, but a change around the world. Of course if you think I'm wrong, you can always wait for 2012 and vote for another Bush and hope to see different results!!!

DR. JEWELL   January 30th, 2008 12:47 pm ET

Stephina, AMY, HEY MAYBE YOU LADIES SHOULD VOTE FOR BILLARY. T LEAST THAT WAY YOU CCAN LET GO SOME OF THAT NASTY FRUSTRATION YOU GUYS HAVE FOR MEN.

Vince Los Angeles, CA   January 30th, 2008 12:47 pm ET

You know…I really wish some of you Hillary supporters could explain to me all this animosity you have against Obama. He's a very decent man….You have to believe that all the high powered names that have come out to endorse him have investigated any skeletons in his closet THOUROUGHLY…the worst thing that has come out is this Resko thing and there has been NOTHING illegal that he's done. I can't realistically imagine ANYONE in American politics being able to spend any time in it and come away with clean hands. Obama has done nothing but speak about unity and oneness and healing America. I would think it difficult to argue with those ideals. As Americans we ALL desire these things! SO WHY THE ANIMOSITY??? I can only imagine that Obama is viewed as a serious threat to your desire to see Hillary as President which makes your attacks on him seem so incredbly childish!

I don't support Hillary because I do not believe she can reach across the aisle and get anything done. SHE HERSELF HAS MADE THIS APPARENT!! She constantly talks about "FIGHTING" the Republicans…..HONESTLY PEOPLE…WHERE HAS THIS GOTTEN US??? We have been fighting the Republicans for years now…HAS IT GOTTEN US ANY CLOSER TO UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE? LOWER TAXES?? STRONGER GOVERNMENT? GREENER ENVIRONMENT? MORE JOBS? LOWER GAS PRICES??? MORE SECURE BORDERS??

WHAT HAS FIGHTING THE REPUBLICANS TOE TO TOE GOTTEN THIS COUNTRY????

Hillary Clinton is a VERY divisive figure and will mobilize Republicans AGAINST her in the general election…I believe the movement AGAINST her will be strong enough to put a Republican back in the White House…

The only solution to Americas problems is a leader that will work TOGETHER with Republicans, Democrats and Independants to hash out plans to get these things done!! THIS IS COMMON SENSE!!

If the Democratic party throws common sense to the wind and nominates Hillary Clinton I CANNOT support the party…I will change my affiliation to Independent. And I am NOT the only person who feels this way!! THINK ABOUT IT AMERICA!

Some of you people need to go read about these two candidates. Before you sit here and talk crap about what you think you know, Go search the net and do some reading. Stop and think, Stop listening to the BS about change. I'm not sure about Obama, He's new to all this and riding his slim win in 04. That's only reason he's running today, Way to much TV time on his slim win. I liked Edwards myself, But he didn't have a chance this year. As for Hilary, Stop using Bill as an excuse to trash her. He's her Husband and supports her. I'd do the same. And for those of you the forgot, He brought America out of the red. Like I said you need to go read on the net. And not they're web sites, They only tell you what you want to hear.
Knowledge is the key to voting……

Lisa   January 30th, 2008 12:46 pm ET

Why do we have to bash on each other. If you need to know why H. Clinton is not talk about as much with CNN Blogger is because they don't want to. That is why Obama is talk about all the time, the people that want him to win and they will continue to talk about him. If you want to talk about Clinton then do so and stop bashing other people because they support Obama. Obama 2008.

cinco   January 30th, 2008 12:46 pm ET

No one thought Obama could come this far. Congrats to him. Even if he doesn't make it to the 'grand' prize he has made a difference in the entire process. He's given hope to some people; he's allowed us to believe in the goals of democracy!

Alethea Fletcher Hampton   January 30th, 2008 12:46 pm ET

Senator Obama and Senator Edwards are similar in that they both care about the American people and seeing us all united. Senator Edwards please allow Senator Obama to keep your message and vision alive by endorsing him. I do agree with so many that have posted a message that I would like to see Obama and Edwards on a ticket together. I think that the two of them could offer strength and hope to those who have been otherwise dislillusioned and somewhat forgotten. May the torch for the disenfranchised continue to burn brightly.

May each of us as American citizens remember to do our parts. Not only must we vote for a leader that is going to transcend this great nation to higher heights, but we must also remember to forever be cognizant of how our very actions affect others. Truly if we live by the golden rule the future would be much brighter for all of us. Treat everyone the way that you would want to be treated.

Justice   January 30th, 2008 12:46 pm ET

i absolutely love the anti-Obama comments. I think some of the viewers on here are just sore because Obama is giving the Clinton's a run for their money. They thought it was going to be a cake-walk to the White House and it isn't. The femi-nazis are slamming Sen. Kennedy because he is endorsing Obama, what a joke. So if he endorsed Clinton, is that because he was a racist??? I am a young african-american law student who actually supported John Edwards. But now that he is out I am now supporting Obama because Clinton started to get salty when she figured the "black guy" isn't going away easily.

Todd   January 30th, 2008 12:45 pm ET

Obama wants change but he goes after all the old farts in office. When he debates, he is the first to trash talk. Hillary is the only one in the media that they say bad comments about. Obama is a god to CNN. He is a puppet!!! They show all Obamas backers but none of Clintons. They say Obama has the Kennedy family but it doesn't have all of them. Maybe if Hillary goes to the debate and never answer a question more people will like her. It works for Obama!! Know all Edwards ideas are his also, know that he wants his endorsement!!

Michiel   January 30th, 2008 12:45 pm ET

Obama jumping ahead of the announcement by John Edwards is just another example of his ambition and lack of integrity. Does not even have the grace to wait for John to make his speech! Anyone who believes Barack Obama is not a political opportunist is really living in a dream world. If and when John Edwards makes his announcement that he is exiting the race, the American people are the real losers! We will have lost our real best hope for the future of this country. I am still voting for John Edwards on super Tuesday.

John   January 30th, 2008 12:45 pm ET

Gina….
The media is just as overly fascinated with Hilliary Clinton, her name is posted on every politcal headline as well, and CNN did ask her opinion about Edwards in case you missed it….sounds like you are rather biased yourself, dont vote if you have a small-minded, biased attitude, this is what is infecting the country now….

Alfredo   January 30th, 2008 12:44 pm ET

I always watch CNN and I believe in CNN. However, when I watched the way they handled the South Carolina caucus when Barack won and when Hillary won the votes (even without delegates) in Florida you could see the bias they did to Hillary. They even commented that it is only a beauty contest and laughable since there were no campaign and no delegates to be awarded. They also said that Hillary only got the bragging right. How can CNN say that when it fact Hillary's votes are even more than what McCain got. Also, Florida is one of the state the the democrats need to win in November. I lost respect to CNN. I guess they are right when they show on the screen that CNN=Politics; this means CNN is also bias. I also lost respect to the commentors. CNN should hire new commentors. WHEN I WAS WATCHING CNN LAST NIGHT IT THOUGH I WAS WATCHING FOX CHANNEL, A BIAS CHANNEL.

Don, Rochester, NY   January 30th, 2008 12:44 pm ET

Obama, give his supporters a break. Your attempt to sway voters was premature and disingenuous. Typical.

Undecided   January 30th, 2008 12:43 pm ET

The makeup of men and women are totally different. I want to see what a woman president is capable of when given the opportunity at this level. My experience has been what woman wants woman gets?

NC dem   January 30th, 2008 12:43 pm ET

Media Bias – again!!!
Seriously, this is getting ridiculous…

Della   January 30th, 2008 12:43 pm ET

NO his supporters are not only wealthy African Americans. They are the poor and forgotten, and those of us who dare to hope that our voice in all of this can make a difference.

MIke   January 30th, 2008 12:42 pm ET

The slum lord charges don't even dignify a response. And Bill had drug use too, if I remember correctly. Honestly, it sounds like some people are taking any chance to snipe at the 'opposing' candidate as possible. Politics is politics, but Obama and Clinton also have kind words for Edwards because he deserves them. After a certain point, everyone knew he was a 'message' candidate, and to keep campaigning to have that message heard is laudable. Get over it, Hillary fans, there's nothing to roast here, and Obama is a solid, if not more qualified candidate who embodies leadership and change in the white house.

Jeff   January 30th, 2008 12:42 pm ET

Yes we can!

Joseph   January 30th, 2008 12:42 pm ET

Obama/Edwards '08!

Make it happen.

Glad to see that the anti-Clinton vote won't be split any longer.

tom from california   January 30th, 2008 12:42 pm ET

Edwards is more than likely to endorse Clinton according to Time. His issues coincide a lot more than Clintons and Edwards is against old politics.

EDWARDS WILL ENDORSE OBAMA

This is big for the Obama campaign if and when it happens

and Hillary's downward slide continues…

FirstTimeVoter   January 30th, 2008 12:42 pm ET

The media bias in this campaign is ridiculous. I am sick and tired of hearing Obam talking, talking, talking about uniting the country, healing the country, ending bipartisanship…all of these things sound great, but when is he actually going to DO something that shows us he can accomplish anything as president?

Actions speak louder than words. The media should be ashamed of itself for elevating Obama to the extent that it has, when the only positive quality he's shown so far is the ability to make good speeches.

IlliniGirl   January 30th, 2008 12:41 pm ET

Women can't do a Presidents job….Clinton might break a nail
Vote Obama

Angelo Workings   January 30th, 2008 12:40 pm ET

Although I have been an Obama supporter from the beginning, I have always been impressed with the dignity in which John Edwards conducted his campaign. He was always sincere in his message which made him extremely trustworthy, in my opinion. In a way, it's sad to see him depart from the race. I will miss his warm smile and hopeful message. At this point, nothing would please me more than to see an Obama – Edwards ticket in the general election. I believe that would be the best ticket for bringing real change to our country. They would make an excellent team.

RaQuel   January 30th, 2008 12:40 pm ET

Also….I 100% coincide with Amy R.

The Clintons are fooling no one but themselves (and the other Americans who seem brainwashed). I'd vote for Romney before I'd vote for either one of them.

SJ   January 30th, 2008 12:40 pm ET

That's Nice, Obama, can't you wait until AFTER Edwards makes HIS ANNOUNCEMENT?????????
Inexperience at it's best…………….Didn't you learn anything after snubbing Hillary???? You have sooooo much to learn!

Kathleen   January 30th, 2008 12:40 pm ET

Edwards stands for a very good cause. Only Obama has the freedom to perpetuate Edwards' noble cause. Hillary's hands are tied.

Obama is America!! He embodies every precious paradox, which comprises our Nation.

Amy   January 30th, 2008 12:40 pm ET

If Democrats can't see that Hillary Clinton is a much better candidate than Obama, then I truly feel sorry for them.

Michael, CA   January 30th, 2008 12:40 pm ET

I am an Obama supporter and I am really proud of how Sen. Edwards ran his campaign. He never took special interest money, he championed the causes of the poor, and this guy really believes in fighting for them.
He also drew distinctions but he never attacked personally. Attorney General is good, but I think he should be VP. I really do pray that he supports Obama and that Obama agrees to give him the V.P. position. He can really help in that spot. He will also be an excellent Attorney General.
Please Sen. Edwards, please, please, please endorse Obama. Obama/Edwards '08. What a team that will be. Wow, a leadership team that I can truly be proud of. Those two people will make me want to do more than ever for this country because I believe they will work the hardest for America and to unite this country. Hillary is a good leader, but she doesn't inspire me in the same way. I think she can be effective in her current role and perhaps end up being Speaker. She is just a bit too divisive to bring us all together. If she is the nominee, I would seriously consider someone like John McCain, who has way more experience. For me it's not just about experience, but if that's her argument, McCain has way more experience than she does.

Lesa Strange   January 30th, 2008 12:40 pm ET

Please just listen to each person talk about the problems in our world and 'how" they plan to make a change. I think if anyone would just take the time to do this…………..they would see that Clinton is our best bet! Don't get me wrong…….Obama can talk about the problems and about change, but I've yet to hear the man talk about how he is going to make that change!!! We need someone who knows their way around Washington……plain and simple. If you are making a choice on first impressions…………….I suppose Obama is your man………..but if you are "really" going deeper than first impressions………….you'll discover that he doesn't really have a plan for all of that change that he talks about!
Just listen to Clinton and how she is going to make that change and you will see that she is trying to help those of us that need and want it most!

Amy   January 30th, 2008 12:39 pm ET

If Democrats can't see that Hillary Clinton is a much better candidate than Obamaq, then I truly feel sorry for them.

Traci   January 30th, 2008 12:39 pm ET

past vs future, come on edwards, give it to barrack obama who will continue ur fight 4change.

Chris   January 30th, 2008 12:38 pm ET

Didn't Obama outright say that he did use drugs. I'm sure Hillary never touched drugs in her life. If they both used them back in the day does that affect what they are doing now? Only if they are still on the dope. People do grow up, you know.

Ack, ack, ack.

Scott   January 30th, 2008 12:38 pm ET

Hillary supporters – google the name Norman Hsu. Then you will not be so gung-ho about this Rezko business. You can fill a cemetary with all the skeletons in the Clintons' closet.

John Knight   January 30th, 2008 12:38 pm ET

Oh Amy…really….a reference to the fact that he tried an illegal substance. WOW, what an admission. Beats the "I didn't inhale" comment by a mile….and of course the "gentleman" in the White House the last 7 years..and the people around him…did their best to cover up his alcoholism in the 2000 election cycle..and only NOW is he talking in public about it. Pick pick pick.

And lest you pounce on me…..I am an happy UNDECIDED ILLINOIS voter. But one who is sick and tired of this stupid and petty bickering over who did what growing up–a time when we all do dumb things. Get to the REAL issues and lets have THAT discussion. I mean of course, if you're adult enough to have it.

Liz W   January 30th, 2008 12:38 pm ET

Clearly there are certain people watching this election who aren't able to understand or grasp the power of the Obama movement. They attribute in his popularity up to conspiracy theories about him being a media darling and other such nonsense. What they are not admitting is that actually in spite of his race, people from all across the spectrum of American life are resonating with his vision, and are feeling empowered and enfranchised. This is a huge accomplishment for the Democratic party.

sunlight   January 30th, 2008 12:38 pm ET

OK I have had enough of this LEAVE CNN ALONE. Dont make me turn Hillary Clinton and Bill Clinton over to GLENN BECK. Beck is my boy and he will tell the truth on them.

Will   January 30th, 2008 12:37 pm ET

I'm an Edwards supporter but even if Edwards endorses Obama my primary vote will still go to Hillary.

Obama can talk a good game but that's about it IMO. Like that old saying goes… "Where's the beef?"

Clinton / Edwards '08

Monte   January 30th, 2008 12:37 pm ET

CNN…enough kissing up to Obama…let him pay for his ads!!! Your reporters, especially Lee Cowan is so much in Obama's camp, he doesn't even bother to hide it.
You are so petty and holding grudges against Bill Clinton, you are trying your best to cram Obama down our throats….stop acting like 2 year olds.

kay   January 30th, 2008 12:37 pm ET

If McCain is president, God help us all!! He will be just as bad as Bush…
I appreciate Obama's open book about his life and his drug use, if his experiences as a teenager is why you would not vote for him, then you are not intelligent enough to vote, your rights should be stripped. Clinton is getting just as much free press as any other candidate, and we all know her and her husbands hands are not clean. Women talk about Clinton as if she is a savior, when she is just as slippery as any of the republican candidates.
Obama '08!!!

nb   January 30th, 2008 12:37 pm ET

Obama's comments were right on target concerning Edwards. I hope he(Edwards) wil endorse Obama. Edwards would make an excellent Atty. General once Obama is elected President!!!!

Shawn P   January 30th, 2008 12:36 pm ET

I don't think Edwards will endorse either candidate. He knows his endorsement wouldn't matter in the first place. Plus, he is a short-list contender for either Obama or Hillary for VP. Why ruffle feathers. There is a reason that Joe Biden, Chris Dodd, and Bill Richardson haven't endorsed anyone yet. Edwards will follow suit.

And we can obviously see all the feminists coming out in support of Hillary. I don't think there should be any Obama or Hillary bashing…the GOP feed off of it.

Eric   January 30th, 2008 12:36 pm ET

I can't believe all the negatives I'm reading. It's like your bitter because someone is being FORMAL! This really is the Clinton News Network cuz u all seem to be so far up her dress it's a little uncomfortable.

letmetellyouthetruth   January 30th, 2008 12:36 pm ET

What qualifications does Hillery have?she ever run a company, met a payroll? Has she been a mayor, a governor, a company CEO, a CFO??? NO she hasn't. She does know how to expand big government, increase your taxes and whittle away at our ever decreasing freedoms. Electing her would be electing Bill again and if that happens, God help us all.

Matthew   January 30th, 2008 12:35 pm ET

I do agree with Gina. It does seem like CNN likes Obama more than Clinton. I remember watching CNN during the New Hampshire primary, and it was- "Obama this" and "Obama that." "Look, Hillary is crying." "Obama has gotten people to come out and vote again!"

In the end, Clinton won. Making it seem like Clinton was the one getting people to come out and vote, but no mention of that. Unless, they didn't want to protray a negative spin on- "People are coming out to vote against Obama."

I'm undecided on a democratic candidate, but I know listening to CNN about who I should choose is about as objective, in the presidential race, as Fox News.

Missy   January 30th, 2008 12:35 pm ET

I would vote for trash like Detroit's Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick before even thinking to vote for Hillbilly Clinton. Lets not forget how the Hillbillys left the white house at the end of there term while tax payers foot the bill..
Go Obama Go!!!!

Katy Hill Prescott Az.   January 30th, 2008 12:35 pm ET

Obama shows again what a gracious individual he is. This is the kind of healing balm the nation needs not a mean spirited harpy like Clinton. The way she mtook credit for a win in Florida after going along with the rest of the candidates in avoiding it was beyond sleazy. She has shown herself to be a back stabbing hypocrite as well.

The Other Katherine Harris   January 30th, 2008 12:34 pm ET

Boy, do I hope Barack means this. There's way too much Wall Street money in his campaign to suit me, but I certainly can't believe Hillary would govern any differently than did her husband, who slit our throats with media conglomeration, NAFTA, PNTR with China and everything else the plutocrats wanted.

I'd planned to vote for John next Tuesday in New Mexico, but now I'll vote for Barack. What a shame the corporate media succeeded in marginalizing and trivializing him; he was the candidate they really needed to stop, and they've done it.

mike, il   January 30th, 2008 12:34 pm ET

Amy – they already have, talked about Obama's drug use, he wrote a book talking about it, OBAMA AND DRUGS DOES NOT = SECRET. And for what we know about Rezko they have reported, God help us if people start committing suicide and disappearing like those involved with the clinton scandals…

Cnn is not going to post that because we don't want to talk about those missing people anymore…..

OBAMA/EDWARDS 08

RaQuel   January 30th, 2008 12:34 pm ET

Great move by Obama! Wouldnt call it a chess move, but a predictable one. Let's see what happens. He's definitely playing this political game well. Hillary could learn from him.

Kim4Obama   January 30th, 2008 12:33 pm ET

I would love to see an Obama/Edwards ticket. I will vote republican or not at all if Hillary is my only choice.

Ray   January 30th, 2008 12:32 pm ET

I guess anti-Obama remarks just don't make the board do they!

Varney   January 30th, 2008 12:32 pm ET

John Edwards will surely endorse Obama, they agree on many things compare to Hillary Clinton ; just wait and see what will happen in the next days.

Scandals   January 30th, 2008 12:32 pm ET

To Amy,

How many scandals were the Clinton involved in? Way too many… Hence, Hillary as a polarizing figure who has no chance of winning in November 08.

Anyone but Hillary!

mitesh   January 30th, 2008 12:32 pm ET

What is wrong with CNN & other media? How come they write always good about Obama and no news of Hillary? If one wants to criticize then criticize all candidates instead of only one…

Obama is Mr. Nice (or atleast he pretends), but that does not mean media should not criticize him. Mr. Nice needs some experience before leading a popular nation. He did not even vote in several importants bills in last two years. Why don't media talk about that?

Lisa - Ohio   January 30th, 2008 12:32 pm ET

I THINK OBAMA'S WORDS ARE GRACIOUS AND IT IS APPARENT THAT OBAMA AND EDWARDS HAVE BEEN "AGENTS OF CHANGE" FROM THE BEGINNING.
OBAMA FOR PRESIDENT…EDWARDS FOR VP! HOWEVER, IF OBAMA IS NOT THE NOMINEE, AS AN INDEPEDENT VOTER, I WILL VOTE REPUBLICAN.

Michael   January 30th, 2008 12:32 pm ET

GOD PLEASE HELP US if we have to have another Clinton in Office. We need an honest person in the office not one who is constantly lying.

Mohammad Siddiqui - IL   January 30th, 2008 12:32 pm ET

Way to go President Obama, Politics or not it was pleasant to see your comments on J. Edwards move. I admired him in the race to the white house and my admiration does not end with this campaign. Picking between the two of you and senator Obama was a hard pick but as they say, Change It Shall Be'

Farewell My Friend, Long live Our Nation and its Patriots.

Obama 08 ( VP John Edwards )

John   January 30th, 2008 12:32 pm ET

Wow, nice going CNN, praising Obama and nothing on Hillary's reaction.

I also noticed how in your main (not ticker) article, you cited 'pundits' who think 60% of Edwards' supporters will go to Obama, and conveniently doesn't mention a SURVEY conducted on this very senario where it was shown 4/10 Edwards' supporters will go to Clinton and only 2.5/10 will go to Obama.

Way to stay unbiased, CNN.

Hillary '08!

Surrealist, Fort Myers, FL   January 30th, 2008 12:32 pm ET

This may be "boot licking" for Edwards supporters, but I'm strongly considering him as my next option.

Like Edwards…theres a freshness of ideas…and a whole new cadre of NEW appointees and elected officials who'll follow in his wake. It's time to shake up Capital Hill as well as the White House.

Let's take the cronies out! (sorry Hillary, Bill, Kerry, and dozens of your tightest circle of friends– it's just good for America) and replace them with new visionary people who have ALL of Americans interests at heart!

Guess I'm on the Obama-wagon!

Jason, Columbia, SC   January 30th, 2008 12:31 pm ET

The Rezko story is a non-issue. Read up on it at factcheck.org

Honestly, if that's the worst scandal that can be tied to Obama, he's leagues ahead of the Clintons in that regard.

Pen   January 30th, 2008 12:31 pm ET

Amy, Obama is the best the liberals can produce, The media loves this type of person. They make their living interviewing and showing immoral people. The left praised Clinton, enough said.

Scott, Royal Oak, MI   January 30th, 2008 12:31 pm ET

Well, Amy, that's because both are old news. Obama admitted to experimenting with drugs as a teenager in his book, otherwise nobody would've known about it. Should we talk about Bill Clinton's drug use again? How about George W's?

As for the slum lord, it has been well known that he will stand trial in February.

Pay attention.

Yola   January 30th, 2008 12:31 pm ET

Just look what happened in Florida – Go and look – My vote is for Hillary

M J Love   January 30th, 2008 12:29 pm ET

Well said, Mr. Obama. The Republicans certainly aren't seeing, hearing or talking about the Americans John Edwards is speaking for.

Dan   January 30th, 2008 12:28 pm ET

Well, there is one thing for sure. If Edwards gives his votes to Obama, then we might have a chance in this upcoming election against the Republicans. That is, if our vote counts. I was always taught in school that the political process was for the people, by the people, of the people. Quite to the contrary when a committee tells the country that a state's votes will not matter or count for anything at the convention. Sad!

Sooner or later evereyone mighnt realie that the Clinton's are on a power binge and need that power to survive. What is going to happen when she looses?

Joe   January 30th, 2008 12:28 pm ET

I don't understand why Hillary supporters hate Obama so much. I think mostly they are women who wants to see a women in the white house. There is nothing wrong with that but please explain why you hate Obama so badly. People say he doesn't give specifics, go visit his website and find out where he stands on lot of issues facing America. I still think Hillary will be the nominee. If the Hillary supporters keep this tone they sure are going to lose lot of voters in general election.

Christian, Tampa FL   January 30th, 2008 12:28 pm ET

I'm surprised by how sad I feel that Edwards is dropping out. He's had a good run, and now it's just the two megastars. I hope that Edwards will consider endorsing Obama, in order to push forward a campaign that has spent a lot of time focusing on issues of poverty and foreign aid; the growing humanitarian organization ONE.org has given both of them high ratings for making poverty and the fight against AIDS paramount.

Dr. Phil   January 30th, 2008 12:28 pm ET

Obama, you are a smooth talker. You talk of great glory of what you will do, in theoretical terms of course. As President, you can't just make speeches and talk of nirvana. You MUST show us the way to nirvana. Stop talking about it and show us what you have actually done in the past to get us there. And I'm not just referring to the hundreds of votes you have skipped in illinois and in DC.

Rich In Seattle   January 30th, 2008 12:28 pm ET

Just remember, America voted for Bush twice. What makes you think they will vote any better this time around. Look for more years of fighting and division if Hillary wins. Just more of the same and we see where that has gotten us.

gary j   January 30th, 2008 12:27 pm ET

And then there were 2. Remember, the insurgents here are Obama, Richardson, Edwards. The primary and caucus process was set up to coronate the Billary campaign for the restoration of the Clinton White House. Edwards is dropping out because he is no longer viable and I hope he does endorse Obama, who is the best chance for the Dems to take the White House. Karl Rove and company on the Republican side are slathering with the idea to run against Billary. An Obama/Richardson ticket is the way to win. And it is about winning. Edwards would not have run if he simply wanted to support Hillary so while he cannot be a king maker, he can certainly help win in the fall by endorsing and working for Obama.

Fitz   January 30th, 2008 12:27 pm ET

Can Bill really become VP if Hillary becomes President. Bill can not be President for a third time, right or VP I need help please !

vijay kachru   January 30th, 2008 12:27 pm ET

Democrats now need to consider the McCain factor. Obama and Edward team would be the better option. Hilary and Edward would perhaps cap the generational Divide , but Obama and Edwards would bring forth the strong work team image ..out to make the change happen. Drum roll please the two samurai are on the way.

Amy   January 30th, 2008 12:27 pm ET

Matthew January 30, 2008 11:50 am ET

Nice to see women already bashing this."

Women will not only "bashing this", I hope women will understand what is going on and will reflect on what is happening to most of them (perhaps not to Caroline Kennedy) every day of their lives. Grotesque remarks and double standards. And all of you, all of you.. have/had mothers. But when it comes to women, you have no sense of fairness. Hillary was not treated fair and equal with the other candidates. Period.

Hillary'08!

If its about making poverty an issue and finding solutions to economic problems, it is Hillary who can be aggressive to have things done.

Dr. Sharif   January 30th, 2008 12:27 pm ET

There are some things I know and some things I believe. I know Hillary has been in politics longer than Obama. But I believe, Obama is a better leader. We can call eachother names and say the media is blowing him up. But no one needs to blow him, he makes us feel good about our country and where we can go. No belittling comment from any of you or the Clintons can change that. In fact, greater animosity towards him only makes the point more why we must change as a nation. We have become so negative and so demeaning to eachother just because our views are different, or our religions, or races. At the end of the day, the only thing that matters is how we have impacted eachother's lives.

Chris, Springfield MO   January 30th, 2008 12:27 pm ET

Obama is the right man to lead our country out of the stale mate it has inside itself. PLEASE John, help OUR COUNTRY and endorse Obama!!! Long live a free and strong United America!

I like how now Obama and Edwards belive in the same things. Obama Cult members have lost their mind!!!!!

I guess Obama needs all the backing he can get. Just because people back you, still dosen't make you ready to lead. Your are all talk and have nothing to show for it.

the future   January 30th, 2008 12:26 pm ET

OBAMA/EDWARDS 08!!!!!!!!! What a beautiful team that would be!

constant   January 30th, 2008 12:26 pm ET

I read the story on here and on "another" news web page. The other news said When contacted, the ClintonS campaign said "He called and told her he is dropping out." No comment.
When contacting Obama's campaign, Obama spoke himself, and gave Edwards redit and the mutual respect he deserves! The same as McCain did for Rudy. The message from these candidates? They don't always agree. They are inthralled in a fierce political battle on both sides, but they have mutual respect for each other. Isn't it nice to see and hear these candidates can be decent human beings? Maybe we could learn something from them…huh?
If we want change…from dirty politics…from corrupt Wahsington…from the division that has taken over our country in the past 15 or so years….I guess we can take theircomments as they are meant, as a compliment.

ao   January 30th, 2008 12:26 pm ET

so how did it go? ah, yes. "XXX will say or do anything to get the vote." What a double-standard.

Ross   January 30th, 2008 12:25 pm ET

I don't think Bill could be VP. VP and Prez have to be from different states

Jeff;South Carolina   January 30th, 2008 12:25 pm ET

yeah I saw both clintons in a picture smiling with that so called slum lord. Don't twist the truth or spew propaganda when you don't even know the details.

Jay   January 30th, 2008 12:25 pm ET

Obama definitely needs to do something to court more white voters. Many voters are saying they will go vote for Obama and end up voting for either Hillary or Edwards. It seems to me that this is going to be a race issue and for Obama to win the nomination he is going to have to get the support of white voters which is going to be difficult considering the shadow racism in this country.

Jason   January 30th, 2008 12:24 pm ET

Obama and Clinton are both tools of the establishment. The only candidate who actually cared about the average American just quit the race.

kevin from alaska   January 30th, 2008 12:24 pm ET

With Edwards gone (the Poor Candidate), now it's just down to the Me Candidate vs. the We Candidate.

Bryan from AR   January 30th, 2008 12:24 pm ET

We put our trust in the Clintons before and they shattered that trust. Bill looked us all striaght in the eye and told us a BOLD FACE LIE. We believed him and it turned out that he made a fool of us all. Now we're looking at giving him another chance to deceive us. They all may lie, cheat and still, but Bills lie cut pretty deep and it hurt. Fooled once, shame on them; fooled again shame on us.

btw, The answer is NO, he is not the first Black President.

ATexanForAUnitedAmerica   January 30th, 2008 12:24 pm ET

Beautiful message. I hope those who supported Edwards will place their faith in Obama. He can lead us "together" to make this a better country.

Edwards will be missed in this campaign and I wish him and his family the very best. Spend some time with Elizabeth John. God Bless you.

Ray   January 30th, 2008 12:23 pm ET

WOW, For Obama wanting all this change he sure is looking to get all of Washington to back him!!! How is that change?

John from CT   January 30th, 2008 12:23 pm ET

CNN why haven't you posted my latest (yesterday and this mornings) comments.

I am surprised that John Edwards dropped out today. He has been saying all along that he is going forward all the way to the convention. I really did not believe that but I thought he would still stay in thru the debate and wait to see the polling results next tuesday. Especially if the other 2 debaters bring their shameful acts to California.
Well I guess those powerful Democrats talked John into dropping out. So that's how you stand up to the old broken down Washington. So he will endorse Senator Obama – before next tuesday – and will be his running mate should he win the nomination. Good Luck.

Terry   January 30th, 2008 12:23 pm ET

Like Obama pointed out to Hillary and all of us, “All of our hands are dirty one way or another.” I will go with the lesser of two evils at least he tries to tell it like it is. Compared to the no experience George Bush had when he took office and now ending with the worst presidential legacy in history, Obama can do this job on day 1, Go Obama!!!!

John   January 30th, 2008 12:23 pm ET

Great Stephania…really mature….!! you guve yourself a lot of credibility…maybe next time instead of just speaking you will actually say something worthwhile hearing!

BTW: haven't seem Obama promise anything to anyone…at least not to Hillary's extent. (For the war against the war, for Bush, against Bush, for the PAtriot Act, against the Patriot Act, against change, for change…..COME ONE!!!)

d   January 30th, 2008 12:23 pm ET

Carter has a racist comment……. did the media pick up on this….. probably not.

According to the paper, Carter was particularly praiseworthy of the Illinois senator's rhetorical skills, comparing them to those of Martin Luther King, Jr.

joli from Chicago   January 30th, 2008 12:23 pm ET

Mike from Houston

I might remind you that taking a picture w/ and ex president vs taking over 100K in campaign contributions are 2 very different things. As a former first family the Clintons probably have pics with a few unseeming characters. but they never took money from this slum lord. All this talk about Obama staying away from special interests is so bogus Im in Chicago and we KNOW his connections … including big money and legislation connections to big energy companies like Excelon. You know it is very telling that he denies theses ties. They all have them stop denying you have them!

Wayne   January 30th, 2008 12:23 pm ET

Instead of praising Edwards, Obama should take the time to explain why his campaign had a late-night revelation last night: They are going to jettison tens of thousands in additional Rezko cash donations! Just how deep does this connection to Rezko go? Lets hear some answers Obama!

Aaron   January 30th, 2008 12:22 pm ET

Sad day, but I guess it was going to happen eventually. I'm just sad I won't get a chance to vote for him here in RI. I have to say though, if you Hillary fans think Edwards or his fans will ever endorse her, you're delusional. Judging by your posts, you guys are just like your canidate. You'll say anything to make her look good, regardless of how accurate is.

Amy, Kazoo   January 30th, 2008 12:22 pm ET

Heidi- I think you mean Edwards and Obama. Of course Obama and Obama agree on many issues LOL

Phyllis/ PA   January 30th, 2008 12:22 pm ET

If Edwards really cares about the poor, he should do his homework on the Obama/Rezko relationship. First their relationship is about 19 years old. Since Rezko has had a reputation for being undersirable all that time, I find it difficult to accept Obama's simple excuses like a " Bonehead decision".

In addition to his having received large sums of money from Rezko for each of his campaigns, The Chicago Sun has copies of letters that Obama wrote to recommend Rezko for goverment funds to build more of his "slum" housing.

Rezko has been building these for years. He collects his money and then lets them fall apart. Low income people live with no heat and all the other problem slum housing has.

Now the Rezko/Obama connection is starting to coming out. Will Edwards wait for this information to be investigated or will he prematurely endorse Obama?

If Edwards really does care about the poor, he sure would not want to endorse one who is involved with a slumlord.

Farrell, Houston, Tx   January 30th, 2008 12:22 pm ET

John Edwards is one of Americas most brightest. Remember, even though his numbers stayed low in the polls he didn't go to Florida against the DNC, he is a true democrat like Obama.

Bryan   January 30th, 2008 12:22 pm ET

Every one is waiting for Hillary's statement, but remember Hillary usually waits for Obama to move first befor she makes a move. She did that during the debates in the papers and now this. So stop bad mouthing CNN for not getting her statement. I'm sure she is writting it up right now as I speak now that Obama made his. LOL!

Will Women Bash this?

Bill Clinton had no washington experience. however, in 1992, he told Bush sr. The same old experience is irrelevant today. that would apply to Hillary Clinton

Edwards Dropping out of the presidential race.

Oh Yes!

This is big news!

Howard Dean has the Dem party at the breaking point.

Experince you may want more of ???

Hillary voted for war with Iraq
Hillary voted for war with Iran, 2007
Hillary Economic stimulus plan fell short, Her econ. adviser had to revise it to look like Obama.

CLM   January 30th, 2008 12:21 pm ET

Mike(Houston, TX),
The photograph you are referring to is just a ploy by the media to take attention off of serious issues. They(foxnews) will try anything to taint Hillary! GO HILLARY!

Amy, Kazoo   January 30th, 2008 12:21 pm ET

Interesting that he'll seize THIS opportunity, the chance for votes, but not just even look at Clinton at the SOTU. No, to look at her would have been dishonest and fake. But this is real? Gosh you guys are more snowed than I originally thought.

colene from new york   January 30th, 2008 12:21 pm ET

To deny that both Edwards and Obama are the REAL canditates of CHANGE is simply denying the facts.

Edwards said so himself.

Let's see if he sticks to his principles.

John in Charlotte   January 30th, 2008 12:21 pm ET

Edwards said it best, there are two candidates that stand for meaningful change in this election, Obama and Edwards. Welcome aboard Edwards supporters, if you want to see John's agenda on poverty moved forward, Obama is your candidate.

Yes we can
Obama '08

Wayne, Wentzville MO   January 30th, 2008 12:20 pm ET

Obama is right on target with his comments about Senator John Edwards. They both share the very same vision when it comes to poverty in America, and also as it relates to those without good jobs. Obama is one hundred percent committed to putting America back on track where it belongs.

Let's get behind this great man and support him, everyone! Thank you!

JF   January 30th, 2008 12:20 pm ET

Stephina -
Who cares??? You're kidding, right? I care. A heck of a lot of people care. And frankly, you should too. The "who cares" attitude is exactly what got this country and economy into the disgusting position it currently is in…..It's TIME for someone to start caring. How sad you criticize both Obama and the public for doing just that…..

Jessica, arlington, VA   January 30th, 2008 12:20 pm ET

lol..Clinton supporters are hilarious. They act JUST like her: they will say ANYTHING to get what they want!!!!

Obama/Edwards!!

Enrique   January 30th, 2008 12:19 pm ET

John Edwards had the courage to apologize for his vote to give George Bush authorization to invade Iraq. Hillary Clinton, on the other hand…

Mike   January 30th, 2008 12:19 pm ET

Amy R, Bill Clinton can never be Vice President because the requirements for VP are the same as they are for President. If you cannot be the President you cannot be the VP. However, I do agree that the Clintons are power hungry and just want to get back to the White House for themselves.

Henry n New York   January 30th, 2008 12:19 pm ET

My mother once told me when I was younger "don't be concerned when other people are noticing you – be concerned when they don't notice you and what you do – no one likes to be ignored". Unlike Gravel Obama is getting a lot of attention. It seems the Clinton slim machine has had a trickle down effect from top to bottom with some of the negative basless comment I see. President (soon to be) Obama – keep up the good work. YES WE CAN

AJ, IL   January 30th, 2008 12:19 pm ET

If Rudy Giuliani can endorse John McCain, then John Edwards can certainly endorse Barack Obama. If Edwards endorses Hillary Clinton, then I will use all respect for his campaign. As the most vocal opponent to Hillary on the Democratic campaign trail, his endorsement of her wouldn't make any sense.

Cheryl   January 30th, 2008 12:19 pm ET

AMY R. What you post is not correct. Legally, BILL CLINTON cannot become HRC VP. If something were to happen to her, he would be President, which he cannot do, since he has served 2 terms. Get your facts straight.

david   January 30th, 2008 12:19 pm ET

keep the obama party train going edwards gone endorse him buddy we can use your support and votes and u would make a could VP edwards woo yeah!!

CNN headline for Obama: Edwards' cause goes on

CNN headline for Live Hillary Comment: Hillary talks about Edwards quitting.

Wow…CNN really DOES have biased views on the SAME thing.

Johnny   January 30th, 2008 12:18 pm ET

Obama, go all the way. Already i see you in the white house… with VP, John Edwards.

Jerry   January 30th, 2008 12:18 pm ET

If the Dems want the Presidency they will vote for Obama. As an Ind/Dem i would rather vote for McCain than Clinton.

Zach   January 30th, 2008 12:17 pm ET

Senator Obama is an opportunist establishment candidate. Recent endorsement testify to only one thing that is Obama is backed by the establishment. CNN and others should really investigate about the real estate deal that Obama signed on. Perhaps the media would only focus on that if the Clintons were involved. Those who support Obama should also support scrutiny of the candidates because come novermber the Republicans would do it for you.

Jim ( Independent )   January 30th, 2008 12:16 pm ET

I like John Edwards , he seems like a nice guy , but i really think he needs to be with his wife and family.

I really think that he will end up endorseing Obama , if he gets behind someone. If that is the case i think it will help Obama more then Clinton.

This thing really is about the "Past -vs- Future"…….Clinton would be a dream come true for the Republicans because , they have mountains of scandals and Clinton trash to use against Hillary and Bill.

I just don't see Hillary as being electable in the General Election , she is a lightening rod for all that is wrong with Washington and would bring with her a house divided , and another do nothing congress.

Obama really is the best chance for the Democrats to move forward for a better tomorrow.

Andrew   January 30th, 2008 12:16 pm ET

Well said by Obama. It is refreshing to see that politicians competing for the same thing can still have a great respect for the other's views.

To those that are wondering why CNN "didn't ask Hillary" do you realize that Obama issued a statement. CNN didn't ask him. The question you should be asking is "Why didn't Hillary say such nice things about Edwards?" or "Why didn't Hillray release a statement?"

Michael   January 30th, 2008 12:16 pm ET

"Deb January 30, 2008 11:32 am ET

What a player Obama is! His main supporters are wealthy African Americans.
What about that whole "slum lord" thing. Will Edwards endorse that?"

Please get you facts correct – he did no more than 5 hours of work with a law firm that happened to represent that so called slum lord. Did you notice that Hilary and Bill othe stood happily with the man in a picture that was shown on the Today show just last week.

Edwards, PLEASE support Obama and bring this country back together… I'm so tired of the lies and the do whatever and say whatever to get elected. "I did not have sexual relations with that women" Bill Clinton. I think we all know where Hillary is getting her lying techniques from.

JF   January 30th, 2008 12:16 pm ET

Obama had this speech ready because he knew Edwards was leaving the race….the two have been in talks after every debate and unlike Clinton, they are both excellent matches on their issues….I see clearly a planned "Obama/Edwards" ticket if Obama is able to nab the nomination. This is politics, people. There is no coincidence he dropped out before next Tuesdays primaries….the Dems need to see how Obama does without Edwards on the ballot before the true campaigning begins. I for one, am excited to watch….and ready to give my support to the one man I feel will TRULY make a difference in this country. May you go all the way, Barack. Thank you for making me believe again.

Terry   January 30th, 2008 12:16 pm ET

I would cross party lines and vote republican over Hillary Clinton for president. Placing a republican back in the white house will be a continuation of President Bush legacy in one form or another, but I cannot stomach a Clinton presidency. I now understand Obama and what he is trying to accomplish we need to feel good about ourselves and break down the walls of separation placed there by the past administrations. God speed Obama.

Bill Hendley   January 30th, 2008 12:15 pm ET

I am an Edwards supporter but I have no interest in supporting the other 2 candidates and their "mud-slinging". Looks like as much as I hate to, I'll be voting republican yet again because the Democrats are so wrapped up in sex & race issues to really put a candidate forward that has a chance. Maybe Huckabee & Edwards??????

CST   January 30th, 2008 12:15 pm ET

People in this country need to start doing their homework when it comes to these candidates. NONE of them have clean hands with regard to their previous dealings with questionable individuals.

Edwards should stay neutral until after super Tuesday and let the voters have their say without underhanded spiteful tricks. Americans are not stupid. We don't need anyone to tell us who the best person for the job is. We can figure that out on our own.

A. Harrison   January 30th, 2008 12:15 pm ET

M Walters   January 30th, 2008 12:15 pm ET

Of course he's remarkable !. Over here in old blighty, there is much talk that on his trip to the UK 5 years ago, he became a West Ham supporter. What a star !.
A down to earth bloke and a safe pair of hands. He probably likes a pint down his local and is not prone to excitement and hyperbole. Just what the U.S needs right now.

Diane   January 30th, 2008 12:15 pm ET

Oh give me a break! Obama is being decent. If you watched any of these last few months and debates, you would see Obama and Edwards have had a similiar message all along. I hope Edwards throws his votes to Obama. We've had enough of the Hillary/Bill idea of government.

SA   January 30th, 2008 12:15 pm ET

Perhaps he is courting those voters, but maybe, just maybe he is trying to show good sportsmanship and kindness as well.

Dave- Mankato, MN   January 30th, 2008 12:15 pm ET

John- Please endorse Obama, Hillary Clinton is a fraud and a rich elitist. Obama actually cares about this country, Clinton just is using this as a front to get her husband back in the White House. She says she cares about poor people; she has no idea what it's like to be poor because she has been well off her whole life. The corporate board of Wal Mart thing was great that Obama mentioned about her too.

joanna   January 30th, 2008 12:15 pm ET

Edward is just schmoozing so Obama can make him the Vice President, isn't this obvious to anybody?

SB   January 30th, 2008 12:14 pm ET

It's seems CNN is favouring Obama. I have been watching CNN since last week and everything and all sr. analyst favoring obama instead of being independant channel. CNN is losing it creditabily atleast with me.

Thanks

Roman, Philadelphia   January 30th, 2008 12:14 pm ET

Brilliant, go after Edwards's votes and go after them hard. I think Edwards and Obama similar populist outlooks, just different styles. It's a natural match, so make it happen!

Mary   January 30th, 2008 12:14 pm ET

Obama is a different kind of politician. Yeah right! He couldn't even wait till John Edwards made it official. Please give me a break. He's such a hypocrite. I hope Edwards will endorse Hillary for president, but if he doesn't, I hope his supporters will support her. Remember, John Kerry supported Obama over his own 2004 running mate, so let's show Obama how much we care about John Kerry. Go Hillary!!

v.ananthan   January 30th, 2008 12:14 pm ET

Edwards is a good guy..

BEST WISHES FROM HILLARY SUPPORTER.

Thierry   January 30th, 2008 12:14 pm ET

I knew this was Edward's last chance. Edwards and Obama share the same views on how to bring about one America. So Edwards should endorse Obama now, if he doesn't it will mean that he is considering to endorse Hillary.

Say no to the monarchy   January 30th, 2008 12:14 pm ET

Deb, maybe you should read up about the slum lord thing before you say something next time. That is another Clinton misinformation. She also failed to mention the picture of her with the same guy at a fund raiser for Old Bill. Funny how facts seem to be blurred with the Clintons.

VAF   January 30th, 2008 12:13 pm ET

Is Deb serious? Obama has support from all segments of American society. From the Kennedy's to the Kings. Just yesterday I overheard a conservative white male republican in dockers and loafers say he'd vote for Obama in a second. Wake up.

Tafoya A. Hubbard   January 30th, 2008 12:13 pm ET

Maybe they did ask Hillary and her camp has not gotten back with them just yet. Calm down people. Does it matter who CNN is "backing" you Hillary supporters will still vote for her as you should if thats your choice. If they liked Hillary I still would vote for Barack so please get over yourselves. Also to Deb Baracks supporters are NOT all wealthy African Americans.

B..   January 30th, 2008 12:13 pm ET

I am sure if Hillary wanted to get a statement like that out there she could have easily accomplished this .. OB .. seems to have his eye on the ball.. indeed. This is going to be an interesting race.

Carol   January 30th, 2008 12:13 pm ET

I was just on another political blog….

There was a picture of Edwards standing next to 'you know who.'

An Obama supporter wrote….. "Look at her.. Hillary's just gross."

Well, that's a venomous Obama supporter for you.

P.S. The person standing next Edwards was his wife Elizabeth….. Ha! Ha! Now THAT'S an Obama supporter. Hating just to hate…. Ha! Ha! Ha!

carmella   January 30th, 2008 12:12 pm ET

John Edwards has said he won't be Vice President. Best wishes to him and his loving family. I worked on the Kerry/Edwards campaign in 2004 and he is the only candidate I have ever donated money to.

What now? Although Senator Obama is a beautifully spoken and inspiring gentleman, I am inspired by the years of hard work and dedication that Senator Clinton brings to the table.

I see Hillary Clinton as a professional woman who is the more experienced, more qualified candidate who is being belittled and undermined while the articulate, under-qualified man is treated as more qualified for the job than she is. I’m an “experience is important” voter. With all of the economic, military, strategic and international problems we face, experience and a record of intelligent action is the most important quality I see in the next President.

If this woman is not qualified, then, no woman in my lifetime ever will be.

sabastian   January 30th, 2008 12:12 pm ET

John Edwards will do well by embracing the politics of real change in Washington, and endorse Obama. His long term legacy will be secured with the nomination of Obama vision than that of Hillary Clinton. Edwards core supporters will find that the Democratic establishment has been the very reason why Edwards message has not gotten the voice it deserves. Hillary Clinton, through no fault of her own, will inevitably reinforce the same status quo of the past and current Democratic establishment. That's not what John Edwards saw or wanted for Ameirca. He wanted a new Ameirca, one America that not only promised, but actually cares for the most vulnerable in our society. Let's break down this wall, together! Join us and win the nonimation for Obama, and reclaim our country for ordinary Americans.

dennie   January 30th, 2008 12:11 pm ET

Jeez folks…..what a bunch of cynics. Would you really expect either candidate to have something negative to say about Edwards? Obama and Edwards have always been very civil towards one another. I'm an independent and I'm still undecided about this election. I don't agree with the bickering but I'm happy that Obama decided to stand up for himself and not let the Clinton train run all over him.

Bij- New York   January 30th, 2008 12:11 pm ET

CNN is the most trusted name in news…if there was something to report, they would report it despite the claims made by some of these post…if you think you can do a better job, start your own nes network!

Mike   January 30th, 2008 12:11 pm ET

The Twelfth Amendment to the United States Constitution requires the vice president to meet the same eligibility requirements as the president. That is, the vice president must be at least 35 years of age, have been born a citizen of the United States, and have been a resident of the U.S. for at least the 14 years preceding election.

In addition, the Twelfth Amendment to the United States Constitution states that "no person constitutionally ineligible to the office of President shall be eligible to that of Vice-President of the United States." This applies to the above criteria and to the removal of eligibility afforded by the Presidential term limits defined in the Twenty-second Amendment to the United States Constitution. In other words, if one cannot be elected President, one cannot be elected Vice President. No President who has served for two terms (or one term and more than two years of a second), can be elected Vice President.

Amy   January 30th, 2008 12:11 pm ET

The natural choice for Edwards' supporters is to come on over to the Obama campaign. Hillary will never make Poverty a real issue because she profits too much from it.

I am a lifetime Democrat but the only way I would vote for Hillary would be as an alternative to Mitt Romney. ( The devil you know versus the one don't)

seektruth   January 30th, 2008 12:11 pm ET

You talk about respect around the world…

That would be a Dream Team!

Both of these guys truly put Americans first.

Obama/Edwards 2008!

Michiel   January 30th, 2008 12:09 pm ET

So far, John Edwards has not yet made the announcement that he is "ending his presidential bid" as the headline states. Just the speculation has provided him with more media coverage than he has received to date! The media is finally reporting that John Edwards was the first to offer a plan for universal health care, first to call on Congress to stop funding the war, the first to call for CHANGE is Washington with regard to lobbyists and the power they have. The other two eventually adopted these ideas. If he does eixt now, I for one hope he does not endorse another candidate right now. I will still cast my vote for John Edwards on super Tuesday. If all other Edwards supporters do the same, who knows what may happen.

Kyle Columbia SC   January 30th, 2008 12:08 pm ET

Maybe she has yet ti make a statement yet JR!! Let's not be cynical here I'm sure CNN would much had release both statements jointly but Barack prepared one before his rally and sent it out. Hillary is at a rally now. GOOD JOB BARACK!!

Democrat (MO)   January 30th, 2008 12:08 pm ET

My daughter and I spoke to OBAMA yesterday in Kansas City … he is one of the few individuals in our time that have the energy and the spirit to break the mold and open a new, better chapter in our country's history.

Barack Obama is one of the leaders that we meet once in every other generation. He will unite this country and we'll work together even on issues we disagree on. We cannot afford another polarizing president who says whatever it takes to get elected. We cannot afford another Congress that is devided and distrustful of the executive branch and the American People !

Too many great leaders have been shot in this country … we should stand up and fight for a person like them whenever we have the chance. The time has come ! The time for change has come !

Barack Obama is the only one of the two Democrats who can win the White House. Billary Clinton would break the Democratic base, drive away the Independents, the new voters and yes – I don't think that our African-American neighboors and friends will forget that 'race' was used by Billary in order to 'devalue' her opponent. The 'back to the future' hardcore would stick with Billary .. but even women who vote for women only would find a reason to vote Republican : Condoleezza Rice.

Billary spells D-E-F-E-A-T !!!

OBAMA'08

Ken   January 30th, 2008 12:08 pm ET

John Edwards has always struck me as a man of high morals and have run a brilliantly clean and honest campaign. I absolutely cannot see him backing Hillary Clinton whose campaign has been a polar opposite to that of Edwards'. At the same time, I realize that POLITICIANS make strategic alliances for reasons unknown to all of us. So, anything is to be expected.

Rivergull   January 30th, 2008 12:07 pm ET

OBAMA/EDWARDS….. sounds like a great ticket, to me!!

Blizzard   January 30th, 2008 12:07 pm ET

Edwards quits, CNN writes a story about Obama's nice words about Edwards (that's what Obama has going for him – nice words). I'm sure Clinton said nice things about Edwards, too. Where's that story? Of course, if they even write it, they'll use slanted language like "Clinton, angling for votes, speaks about Edwards."

Bruno   January 30th, 2008 12:06 pm ET

Hillary's statemant is pathetic, there is no reason to post it on CNN, ok Jr?

Mia, Stafford, VA   January 30th, 2008 12:05 pm ET

Deb -Because HRC called Reszko a slumlord doesn't make it true. Her and her husband are a little loose with the truth, feel free to check fact checker on the washington post website.

EJ   January 30th, 2008 12:05 pm ET

First of all, Mr. Obama acknowledges the guys departure and we find something wrong with it. It case everyone just tuned in, it is a race…..and races are meant to be won. I think he accomplished two goals in accepting an opponents departure and trying to redirect that opponents core audience in his direction. Is that bad? Absolutely not.

Second, this whole "slum lord" thing is ridiculous. Mr. Obama worked for a firm and represented this guy, and the guy gave him money for a campaign. Are politicians suppossed to screen individuals and do background checks on everyone that gives them campaign money. Much ado about nothing. Is anyone saying anything about Halliburton getting all the contracts in Iraq while a former high ranking member of their company sits in the Whitehouse? No. Let it go and move on.

Third, it remains to be seen who I will vote for, but what I do know is that I live in a divided country along every line you can think of. The country is only as strong as its weakest link. Our current state of politics is comparable to be in a gang. The Red people will not listen to the Blue people because they're Blue and vice versa. Nevermind if the ideas are good and can help the country as a whole. Yet we expect the Shiites and Sunnis to get along? Please. The pot cannot call the kettle black.

gene   January 30th, 2008 12:05 pm ET

To all of you Obama supporters who claim that if Hillary wins you are going to vote republican. Please list your second choice, so we can get some idea to your state of mind. If you are liberal democrats, as many of you claim to be, your choices are somewhat limited. Maybe you could do a write in vote and find one of your kind to vote for. Now I am a Hillary supporter and a real liberal democrat. If Hillary fails to win the nomination, I will cast my ballot for Obama.

Cate Keating   January 30th, 2008 12:03 pm ET

What an opportunist and hypocrite – but then so it seems is the majority of the media – NBC (New Barack Channel) and CNN have continually overhyped Obama and undermined Sen. Clinton – shame on all of the policitcal pundits and so-called journalists. What a load of huey. I started out liking Obama but I'm afraid that this continued pontification on his behalf has driven me away. He is much too arrogant but the most disturbing point is the hypocrisy. He touts all of these big name politico endorsements, but continues to "distance" himself from the Washington insiders – are the American people that blind – I guess so!

"What a player Obama is! His main supporters are wealthy African Americans".

Can you prove that ? Do you have any names to provide us ?
This election is not abour wealthy agianst poor, not about whites against blacks, or latinos… It's about putting an end to the same divisions, the same false policies, and above all solving the same problems, that no President (Rep or Dem President) has solved for the past years: Health Care, just as an example.

So wealthy or poor is not the subject, but giving people a job, so that they can live a decent live, with respect.

And I think Barack Obama is the only one who provide this to America, and don't tell me that He doesn't have experience for that, when Bill Clinton was elected he wasn't better or more experienced that Barck Obama (and we all know the story, what happened during his mandate…)

Sounds like Obama begging for Edwards endorcement.
I am so tired of hearing/seeing Obama. Nothing negative ever said about this man. How fair is this? Give me a break.

ATX   January 30th, 2008 12:01 pm ET

As was pretty clear in the final New Hampshire debate, Edwards has no problem siding with Obama against Clinton. I find it unlikely that he would endorse Clinton when his chances of getting on her ticket are so low.

Obama and Edwards vs. Clinton and Richardson?

Clearly Obama/Edwards.

kathe Oakland Ca   January 30th, 2008 12:01 pm ET

To all of you who are ALREADY critizing Obama before Edwards has announced, you know nothing about politics, you know nothing about professionalism, you know nothing about being a well-rounded individual. Why do I say this? And I know you don't care, but because instead of Hillary acknowledging a fellow democrat is leaving the race, she is focused on Florida – how shallow she is. I would have a bit of respect for her if instead she too, after hearing word that Edwards was leaving the race, had stepped up-to-the-plate and said something positive anything. But, this is the character of candidate all you Hillary fans want as our President – same old politics, same old cut throats, same old go for the win, rather than act as a human being.

John, N.H   January 30th, 2008 12:01 pm ET

why did CNN change the title of this piece from "OBAMA PRAISES EDWARDS" to " OBAMA: EDWARDS' CAUSE GOES ON"? We need an honest answer

Nick   January 30th, 2008 12:01 pm ET

I am sad to see Edwards leave, he brought clarity to a lot of the people of this great country. Though I am an Obama supporter, I hope the strong supporters of John Edwards realize that we truly do need change.

I want to thank every single one of you who decide to join with the movement to help Obama change this great nation in the eyes of this world, and its own citizens.

A vote for Hilary is not a vote against your country.

A vote for Obama is vote for changing YOUR country

Sharon   January 30th, 2008 12:00 pm ET

The only way his cause goes on is if HILLARY gets to the White House…..

I don't think Obama's "GOOD JUDGEMENT" befriending Rezko helped any of the poor people of Chicago…..

Beans   January 30th, 2008 12:00 pm ET

Barack, I think you should ask him about vp! Edwards is also awesome, just not as awesome as you. And you cannot afford to let Hillary get him.

rf   January 30th, 2008 11:59 am ET

Edwards please endorse Hillary. We are ready for someone that can walk the talk…not just talk the talk. We need real change not rhetorics.

PJ   January 30th, 2008 11:59 am ET

Amy I like your analogy of the Clintons, makes you say hummmmm.

That is one to think on….

BeyondtheMedia   January 30th, 2008 11:59 am ET

Deb-

Look Beyond what the media tells you and do some research on the facts. This statement, "His main supporters are wealthy African Americans.
What about that whole "slum lord" thing. Will Edwards endorse that?" has no merit. There are millions of african americans voting for Obama who are not wealthy who are voting for Obama and the "slum lord" statement is a fabrication by the Clinton campaign to cloud your impression of Obama's character and tie him with unsavory african american stereotypes… DON'T FALL FOR IT!!! Don't forget that Obama is partially african not african american he is also of european decent. Bill Clinton has lost the respect of many americans by his statements to support his wife's anything to win campaign even sacrificing the loyalty of the african american community to do so. My vote has now gone to Obama because of the FACTS!!!! Change = Obama

Mimi   January 30th, 2008 11:59 am ET

This comment space seems to have become just another negative conduit for the Clinton campaign. Are there any actual Americans out there with real opinions? Or just more nasty Clinton-Drudge style slime?

Brad J   January 30th, 2008 11:59 am ET

Edwards or Hillary for VP.

Nextprez   January 30th, 2008 11:58 am ET

To Amy R. No he is just campaiging for his wife. And yes if my wife would be running for Prez i would campaign for her too. His comments are more flared by the media because he is one of our past presidents and by the way there was 3 trillian dollars surplus economy when he left office. You can vote for a republican if you want to but just think that the republican government has put our country into a deficit and economy into recession in the last 7 years.

And no I don't believe Prez Clinton will become the VP but he sure will be in the supreme court. I think it would be a Clinton/Obama ticket if Hillary wins the democratic nomination!

Bukky   January 30th, 2008 11:58 am ET

Deb January 30, 2008 11:32 am ET

What a player Obama is! His main supporters are wealthy African Americans.
What about that whole "slum lord" thing. Will Edwards endorse that?

Oh Please lady, have you looked into the "slum lord thing" done any due diligence on Obama at all? The Kenedys are "wealthy African Americans". The only "wealthy African Americans" endorsing Obama is Oprah. Hillary has more "wealthy African Americans" endorsing him Obama…I.E Robert Johnson.

Do some research lady and stop speaking with thinking

Jonathan Reilly   January 30th, 2008 11:58 am ET

Obama needs to tap Edwards for VP. If that happens, Hillary doesn't stand a chance. Though to be honest, I'm still secretly hoping for the elusive Obama/McCain ticket…

T   January 30th, 2008 11:58 am ET

Edwards called both candidates and asked them to take up his fight. He's really just honoring a request, which is a solid thing to do for a friend.

Darth Vadik   January 30th, 2008 11:58 am ET

Seeing Edards go makes me very sad, I hope that Obama and Clinton do take up Edwardses cause.

I now support Attorney General Edwards, he might be able to do a lot more for our justice system as a attorney General, although it would take a long time to clean up the place after Alberto Gonzales and even this freak Mukasey.

Scott, Royal Oak, MI   January 30th, 2008 11:57 am ET

Deb – your statement is simply untrue. Obama's main supporters are not wealthy African Americans. He has built his campaign on small donations from a multitude of ordinary Americans.

You can't just make stuff up.

STEVE   January 30th, 2008 11:57 am ET

OBAMA YOU COULD HAVE WAITED FOR EDWARDS TO GIVE THE SPEECH

SAME ARROGANCE AS WHEN YOU TURNED YOUR BACK TO HILLARY

GREEDY AND ARROGANT….OBAMA

Inexperience at it's best…………….

my vote is for Obama now not hilary

Kevin, Illinois   January 30th, 2008 11:55 am ET

John and Elizabeth Edwards are great Americans. I hope that Barack Obama is given a chance to heal our Nation. I love Hillary Rodam Clinton, and believe that she should be the Vice President under Barack for his two terms, and then move into the White House as a single mother for her two terms. Democrats have a chance to hold the White House for 16 years with Barack and Hillary. But it is time now for Barack.

DB   January 30th, 2008 11:54 am ET

Edwards issued a statement and this is just another statement inn response. Edwards did help put the issues in focus, and I do believe that he helped Obama and maybe Clinton get back on track after the bickering.

shamous mc   January 30th, 2008 11:54 am ET

Has Hillary chimed in yet too, to stake a claim to Edwards voters?
Just wondering how her pitch will be.

Mike   January 30th, 2008 11:54 am ET

"Legally Bill can be her VP."
—————————
No, he can't. The Constitution is explicitly clear on this. No person who has been president for 2 terms shall be president, or shall hold a position that could lead to the presidency.

It has been suggested that she might make him a Supreme Court Justice, though.
Wouldn't that be a travesty?

Disenfanchised   January 30th, 2008 11:53 am ET

Someone said that Obama's supporters are wealthy african-americans; after he got those 25 votes where did the other 2 million come from?

Brando   January 30th, 2008 11:53 am ET

GO JOHN!……..please! go for the VP spot. WITHOUT you Barack DOESN'T stand a chance against McCain and HE knows it. Omaba / Edwards '08 & 12 (CMON! you know they are gonna get re-elected)

Maggie   January 30th, 2008 11:53 am ET

Barack Obama is the most likely to carry on John Edwards' concern for poverty.

Paul in Alexandria, VA   January 30th, 2008 11:52 am ET

A poll today claims that 4 in 10 of Edwards backers are likely to support Hillary, while 3 in 10 would support Barack. It is really surprising because Edwards has frequently aligned his call for change with Barack's and Hillary is opposed to doing anything to restrain the power of lobbyists and their corporate backers in Washington, D.C.

Barack and John agree that corporate lobbyists are part of the problem. They use their campaign donations to influence legislators to give them secret tax breaks hidden in arcane language in bills that are ostensibly designed to solve real problems.

It is time for real change, change we can believe in – not shrug at in cynical acceptance of the sad reality that nothing will ever really change.

If you have been an Edwards supporter, as I was in '04, I hope you will get behind Barack. If nothing else, Barack offers a real chance to win, while Hillary is destined to lose to John McCain.

After all, John McCain can spend most of the campaign charging Hillary with waffling on the war while he can only respectfully disagree with Barack, since Barack has always opposed the war.

Moreover, McCain has never answered the question, knowing what we know now, was taking out Saddam worth the cost in lives and treasure given he didn't really have WMD?

He knows America would not have entered the war knowing what it knows now. We also know McCain would have entered the war anyway.

Moreover, on an edition of Hardball with Chris Matthews, McCain said that there would be no problems in Iraq and that the Sunnis and Shiites would not fight each other. Really! Some expert!

So, not only do Edwards and Obama share a common cause in ending the power of lobbyists but Obama is the only candidate left who can defeat McCain. So, please, get on board so we can move America forward in November.

Janet   January 30th, 2008 11:51 am ET

Hopefully John Edwards won't change his mind since Obama obviously couldn't wait for him to formally announce his decision. Had Hillary done this Obama's supporters would no doubt have claimed she was dancing on poor John's grave in an obvious attempt to draw his votes. But surely one can't say the same of the sainted Sen. Obama.

Dianna - Oklahoma   January 30th, 2008 11:51 am ET

I do hope this means Edwards is throwing his support towards Obama. Clinton and her Gutter Polotics need to be stopped she does not fill me with Pride for my party however both Edwards and Obama do.

Constitutional Law Professor   January 30th, 2008 11:51 am ET

yeah that was a brilliant move by Obama. if he keeps playing his cards right – all 3 of Edwards' supporters will move right on over!

Lila Mach   January 30th, 2008 11:48 am ET

I very much admire Sen. Edwards and all his efforts to talk about the poor, the voiceless, and those who just don't care about them. I do believe he is doing the right thing by dropping out of the race, and would hope, at some point soon, he will support Barack Obama — Sen. Obama believes as he does. Sen. Obama is inspirational and competent to lead this country. This country needs him so much! Down the line, I do believe Sen. Edwards warrants an Attorney General post in an Obama White House. President Carter — thanks for your comments … right on point!

ABC   January 30th, 2008 11:48 am ET

Yes We Can!

Here's hoping John Edwards will endorse Barack Obama.

HENRIETTA WARE   January 30th, 2008 11:48 am ET

I HOPE HE DOES NOT ENDORSE HILLARY CLINTON. WE CAN'T HAVE FOUR MORE YEARS OF BILL CLINTON IN OUR WHITE HOUSE.

Edwards has made a difference and has, hopefully, left the print of his message in our consciousness. It's the responsibility of the next president to carry on that message. I hope the remaining candidates and the media will not be like vultures swooping down to pick apart his supporters. Let them decide who to now support.

RXBRETT   January 30th, 2008 11:47 am ET

I donot understand why people still do not see the Clintons through….Democrats should realize that Obama has the best chance winning against any republicans…I donot have anything against Hillary. She would also be a very good president for USA. But, she has so much negetaivity..and definitely in a weaker position to beat a republican candidate (specially if it si Mccain).

Wake up democrats… Look at how the best democrats in our life times are supporting Obama for the same reason…

This subtlely shows that Obama is picking up the 'Edwards Ball' of poverty and 'The Two Americas' and ready to drive Edwards' message home. Watch for Edwards to make his Obama endorsement over the weekend, leading into Super Tuesday. Obama does a good job of holding onto endorsements and releasing them at the precise moment it is needed.

Edwards ran a superb campaign–and one that the other two Democrats should try and emulate..

Interesting photo of Obama patting John's arm in a friendly fashion. I remember exactly what Obama was saying: ". . .and John, you'll get the white male vote." Anyone else remember that?

brandie tampa fl   January 30th, 2008 11:43 am ET

It's a shame that America is so shallow. Obama & Edwards are the soulful candidates. The 2 people I see as young & fresh & genuine…

Edwards lost coverage in the media thanks to Hillary's whining and false accusations leaving Obama constantly forced to defend himself—taking away from BOTH Edwards & Obama.

I watched the debates, unbiased, & there was hillary, ready for a fight from the get go. I know NOTHING of what hillary is about. Therefore, the people that vote for her are only voting for her because she's a WOMAN. She has never presented anything she's done, only accusations of things she said Obama has done.

Hillary BROKE her pledge & campaigned in Florida. She's a lying cheat, JUST LIKE Bush. She's a shoo-in to win. Americans know NOTHING about honesty & pride & have NO IDEA what ethics & doing the RIGHT thing are—which is why this comment won't even be posted…all America wants is stupid gossip!!!!!!!

If they did——-Edwards would be in the top two, not dirty politician Hillary—who suddenly wants florida's votes to count since she sniffed out she had a win…..
Then, we have Obama, who has been on track, NOT slinging until he finally had to sink to her level.

Edwards has made this country clear—-that even being this huge figure in the competition for the highest position in the country—-NONE of OUR voices are truly heard. All we hear is ignorance & negativity in EVERY SINGLE thing the media focuses their attention on. CNN really does focus on Hillary & I'm starting to believe the crazies are right & they DO favor Hillary.

EDWARDS WAS SHORT-CHANGED IN THIS ELECTION.

Brad   January 30th, 2008 11:43 am ET

Obama,
PLEASE make Edwards your Vice President. It will be the smartest political move!

KeKe   January 30th, 2008 11:42 am ET

How much more admirable can Barack Obama be? He is truly a man of distinction from the rest of the political world! The kind words that he has spoken of John Edwards after he has decided to end his bid for president are a testament to the character of Barack Obama. I sure hope to see an Obama/ Edwards ticket in the future!!!!

obama gets high points for the way the people of Florida voted for him. He didn't even come to Florida. Just think what would have happened if he had set foot in Florida.
Hillary and Bill have showed a side of themselves thap people rarely get to see.
If she should get the nomination, many people will not vote or they will change their party to Independant.

Obama is a clean cut, well spoken candidate that really does inspire people and especially the young people. This is what our country need.

Pat   January 30th, 2008 11:40 am ET

I decided to vote for Obama on the day he announced his candidacy. He is the true blend of the American Dream! Amy R.   January 30th, 2008 11:32 am ET

How do the Clintons think they are fooling? This faux Hillary bid is just a front for a third term for Bill Clinton.

Remember Bill wanted to change the constitution to allow for a third term. Legally Bill can be her VP. So who is to say she would not do that? And if she resigns he can legally become our President for a third term. The way Bill has been campaigning this shows, he wants back in the White House for Bill. Vote for change people we can believe in. I am going with Obama. I would vote against Hillary, even vote republican, before I would vote Hillary.

gina   January 30th, 2008 11:32 am ET

In all fairness, did Cnn even bother to ask Hillary Clinton to comment on Edwards departure? Surely there are people supporting the Clinton campaign yet no endorsements ever show up on CNN. It's like your journalist have a media bias. John Edwards was the latest victim of your overzealous, romantic fascination with Obama. I hope John Edwards takes a pragmatic view about who can best solve America's problems. Many Americans supporting Edwards and Clinton are grossly underrepresented when it comes to media attention.

Endorsement   January 30th, 2008 11:26 am ET

Now, if that's not sign of an impending endorsement, i don't know what is…
If most of Ewards' votes do not go to Obama, then we would get a pretty clear indication of the percentage of latent racism existing in America…

Undeniably, Edwards and Obama would make one hell of a team… and would definitely defeat a McCain (Huckaby) coalition in November.

Kal   January 30th, 2008 11:26 am ET

I started out this race behind Edwards and I backed him in 2004. I believe in his message and his values. I hope he backs Obama because they have the same vision for our country. Hillary represents exactly what we would not want and that political gridlock and bitterness. She can't change the fact that half the country hates her no matter how nice she tries to be now. IF (and that is a big if versus McCain)she is elected she will losse us the Senate with the backlash. Can we say Attorney General John Edwards?

I bet he had that statement written up a long time ago – try to beat Hillary to the punch to "praise" him.

HILLARY CLINTON FOR PRESIDENT!!!!

checkthisout   January 30th, 2008 11:25 am ET

I HAVE A TECHNICAL DIFFICULTY WITH THIS SUBJECT.
( i have yet to hear obama speak about the poor and the forgotten )

SO, I SHALL VOTE "PRESENT".

Snicklefritz   January 30th, 2008 11:25 am ET

oops :) Obama/Edwards 08! even :)

Stacy Clarks, Texas   January 30th, 2008 11:25 am ET

OBAMA/EDWARDS 08!!!!

Greg, NY   January 30th, 2008 11:24 am ET

Carter Praises Obama, Obama Praises Edwards. So logically Carter Praises Edwards? Two Edwards' don't make a right? No no, two Americans… I'm getting confused.

Laura Gee   January 30th, 2008 11:24 am ET

Two outstanding gentlemen. Edwards deserves all of our commitments to end poverty and make America one nation again. It's a breadth of fresh air that Obama recognizes this and accepts taking over John's causes and issues. Maybe HRC is too busy patting herself on her back from her big win last night to notice the true civility here.

Snicklefritz   January 30th, 2008 11:24 am ET

Obaba/Edwards 08!!!!

betteryou   January 30th, 2008 11:23 am ET

If they would have worked hard in high school they could have gone to college and had a better life. Poverty is a product of the profound mental laziness that plagues our country. The Democratic party continously panders to this section of society and convinces them that they are vicitims of something other than their own devices.

Your country owes you nothing. You owe your country everything.

Rob   January 30th, 2008 11:23 am ET

God i hope him and Edwards are the on the ticket in November…those 2 are extactly what we need right now so the healing can begin in this country….why would anybody put The Billary Twins back in office for 4 more years of lies and deception is beyond me…they been caught lying even in this race and people still side with them…I don't understand it…

t. Walker   January 30th, 2008 11:23 am ET

The best possiable thing for this country now is a Obama/Edwards ticket. Our country is great and with these two we will let everyone in America know just how great we are!

S Williams   January 30th, 2008 11:23 am ET

Unless the Clintons get elected. Then it's impeachments, investigations, scandals, bickering, accusations and fights for the next four years.

David   January 30th, 2008 11:22 am ET

Wow wat a statement

Denis, NJ   January 30th, 2008 11:22 am ET

Obama is fishing for support of Edwards base…

d   January 30th, 2008 11:21 am ET

This Obama guy is a fake. Everyone is so scared to say anything negative about, his relationship to Reszo, 'no' votes, etc. because it would make them seem racist (Kennedy, Carter, blah blah.

Its so obvious that all of the media have done a bandwagon for Obama.

SB   January 30th, 2008 11:19 am ET

I like Edwards and I hope he becomes the Attorney General or a part of the Cival Rights Divisions…he's a real fighter.

Obamo08!

Dan, TX   January 30th, 2008 11:19 am ET

Edwards needs to play a big role in the next administration. If it is be an Obama administration, Edwards will have plenty of power on his own to excercise.

Jeanne   January 30th, 2008 11:19 am ET

Spoken like the true gentleman that he is…
