President Bush and Schwarzenegger this morning in California.
President Bush and Schwarzenegger this morning in California.

TORRANCE, California (CNN) — Touring a helicopter plant here with President Bush on Wednesday, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger decided to show off some of his best Hollywood lines. But it was Bush who got the last laugh.

Speaking to employees of the Robinson Helicopter Company, the "Governator" joked about the previous time he had been to the factory. "I said I'll … be … baaaack," Schwarzenegger said, rattling off his famous line from the 1984 flick "The Terminator."

Schwarzenegger again recalled his days as an Action Hero by offering to give Bush a ride on one of the massive helicopters surrounding the two men. "Mr. President, if you want me to take you for a spin in one of these helicopters, I'm happy to," the governor said, noting he had "flown them in the movies."

The crowd was loving it, so Schwarzenegger could not resist touting the $150 billion economic stimulus plan floating through Congress with a reference to that old "Saturday Night Live" skit about the body-builder-turned-actor-turned-governor. He urged the Senate to complete action on the plan, saying with a smile that it will "pump up the housing market."

Bush was laughing throughout the monologue, though when it was his turn to speak he tried to focus on the serious topic of the shaky economy. The president said he came to visit the largest helicopter company in the world to tout the benefits of free trade, prodding Congress to approve pending agreements with Colombia, Panama, and South Korea. He also once again prodded the Senate to finish the stimulus package as soon as possible.

But then Bush couldn't resist wrapping up with a friendly poke at the governor, saying the leader of the free world doesn't need a lift.

"Governor," Bush quipped, "I've got my own helicopter driver, thank you."

Dear Paul in Kissimmee: I wasn't particularly fond of Kerry as the Democratic candidate, but at least he wasn't a war dodging coward! George Bush used his daddy's influence to stay out of Vietnam. If anyone is spineless, it's George W. Bush and that weasel Karl Rove, who is the very definition of a coward and pure EVIL. How dare he insult the United States military by claiming that a Silver Star (or was it a bronze star?) recipient was a coward, and don't hand me that Swift Boat crap…those men were paid off by the Republican party.

The Republican party somehow convinced the American voter that if the Democrats got into office, they would just open our doors and throw out the welcome mat for the terrorists. Who was in charge on 9/11? A Republican who was warned by the previous administration that al Qaida was a serious threat but failed to do anything until AFTER we were attacked. Now, after 7 years of Bush rule, the whole world is our enemy, and our economy and our Constitution are in shambles. Well, no more of that…the Democrats are back now that America has finally awakened from this Republican nightmare.

"All the Bush bashers. I guess being safe is not good enough for you idiots. Just imagine if that spineless Kerry was in office. We wouldn't be disliked, we'd be invaded. But maybe that's ok with you as long as Iran and other evil countries like us. I don't get you people."

but…but…but…clinton!..but…but…but…kerry!

that is the best you remaining 20 percenters can muster.

HEY MP

January 30, 2008 7:28 pm ET

For what it's worth F-15 pilots call themselves "Eagle drivers", F-16 pilots call themselves "Viper drivers" . Lighten up guys, you sound a little foolish when you start talking about things that are outside of your experience.

YOU sound even MORE foolish berateing people when it is CLEAR YOU are NOT a Pilot or Aviator. It seems it is YOU who doesn't understand that there is a difference between what you DO and what you do it with.

So by your logic my cousin isn't a TRUCK Driver hes a Kenworth?? LOL

FYI there were NO PILOTS I ever knew who called themselves DRIVERS and since I flew with them for 4 years as a member of the 101st Airborne I think I am INSIDE my experience when I say that.

Go back to the Video games and let the grown-ups talk now MMMKAY??

Mike Allen   January 30th, 2008 7:38 pm ET

Ummm mp, the F16 is the FALCON. Not the VIPER.

Ralph Nader and everyone who voted for him share equally in the absurdity of the last eight years the country has endured under Bush and his neo conservative henchmen.Bush has already cemented his legacy, over 4,000 dead Americans, and countless Iraqui citizens. If McCain or Rommney are elected because of Nader, how long before we invade Iran.

Eric, Los Angeles   January 30th, 2008 6:33 pm ET

Attention, Bush: its a PILOT, not a driver. Sheesh.

Nando, Florida   January 30th, 2008 6:29 pm ET

If we're going to make English the official language of the United States, then Bush ought to be able to master it, given enough time.

Frank   January 30th, 2008 5:57 pm ET

"Helicopter Driver"!!!!!? Since when do they "drive" helicopters?! But again, coming from Bush, not that big of a deal!!! He has made bigger mistakes before in speaking English, which is similar to a foreign language to him.

Anthony Vaughn   January 30th, 2008 5:51 pm ET

Governor,
Will you have your 38 MILLION dollar per year security detail with you? You
kept that little tid bit on the down low. Well now we know. You should be ashamed.
The man you replaced, who was slightly less imposing than you (and hated way
more) spent a third of this amount. I haven't heard of any attempts to harm you.
And I haven't heard you discount the amount reported. You "Terminator" facade
looks to be just that, a facade. That's $ 38,000,000.00 per year. Taxpayer money.
WHAT IS UP WITH THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dennis   January 30th, 2008 5:47 pm ET

Good ole Arnie. At least he is doing what is best for his constituency in this case.

Darth Vadik, CA   January 30th, 2008 5:40 pm ET

Arnold,

You remember what happened to you last time you said you like Bush, your ratings were lower than his, just continue to call yourself a Republican, govern like a Democrat and everything will be cool.

OK buddy.

Amy, Kazoo   January 30th, 2008 5:39 pm ET

PILOT, bush, they call themselves PILOTS.

stan pitts pa   January 30th, 2008 5:38 pm ET

who cares, CNN lets talk about the issues, bush is the past!

mike   January 30th, 2008 5:34 pm ET

Bush needed to travel across the entire country to find one example of how free trade has resulted in a company possibly hiring more Americans. I'm still not convinced that any extra job growth for this company didn't happen overseas. Nah, Bush wouldn't hide the truth…..everything must be great with the economy.

VONNIE   January 30th, 2008 5:33 pm ET

I cannot believe all suppossed "sniping" that is going on. Michelle OBama made a comment, that was as generic as can be and "poof" she is sniping the Clintons. Media "Shut UP, Please we are on to you.
