Shame on CNN and Anderson Cooper. There are 4 people on stage, not 2 candidates. I'd like the opportunity to hear from ALL of them – the media should not be in a position to make my decision for me.

curttwo   February 2nd, 2008 11:59 am ET

Go ahead and keep on ignoring Ron Paul.
Rudy snickered at him and look where he is now.
It will be too late when the "sheeple" of America realize how right Ron was.
Just like when Ross Perot talked about NAFTA back in the '90's.
Will we wake up before it's too late?

Chris   February 1st, 2008 10:51 am ET

Please. Don't try to insult us with your farce of "letting Ron Paul speak". We know it was not aired to people who need to see it. You, instead, spoke to the choir and made yourself look even more like a farce and a joke.

I hope you enjoy the U.S. you leave to your family, children and loved ones. The one man with true integrity, honor, and an answer to the problems we are facing..you black-out.

Thank you so much for sensoring our comments. I am very happy to know we still have a First Amendment. Enjoy the world you have helped create.

jimmy   January 31st, 2008 5:51 pm ET

yeah CNN deleted alot of my comments…like the one about why so many people on here are for RP…they are the only citizens out there that are smart enough to see through the sleaze presented to us by the puppet lapdog media and know who is best for American Freedom and the ending of the deceit required to bring on the NWO!

drew   January 31st, 2008 3:43 pm ET

let paul speak

Kit Maira   January 31st, 2008 12:47 pm ET

We have seen some terrible debates, but the CNN debate last night was by far the most worthless. Anderson Cooper was about the worst "moderator" I have seen. He was especially rude to Ron Paul, cutting him off on several occasions, then promising that he would get time to talk about the issues "in two minutes, no two question" that never came. Meanwhile he allowed McCain and Romney to dominate the whole 90 minutes with meaningless drivel. Huckabee actually came off the best I have seen him, yet Cooper purposely excluded him from most of the debate as well. I don't see why Anderson Cooper even has a job on CNN, he is that bad.

Ray   January 31st, 2008 12:43 pm ET

Disgusting display of bias journalism. "I promise" huh Anderson, I never thought CNN could be worse than Faux, but I guess I can always be wrong. Poor sheeple, they will get what they deserve.

Creampuff   January 31st, 2008 12:41 pm ET

It was a charade and showed just who they want people to vote for. It was unfair and not very professional. I will boycott CNN if they don't get more equal in it's coverage of ALL candidates.

They removed my previous identical post, they must hate the Constitution just like Bush does.

[What's the matter free speech, not in your vocabulary?]

nancy   January 31st, 2008 12:33 pm ET

I am disgusted and appauled at the way Ron Paul was ignored. He is a man among arrogant boys!!!

RAY RHODES   January 31st, 2008 12:33 pm ET

I can sum it up in one word ! Pathetic.

Vicki   January 31st, 2008 12:25 pm ET

I am flabbergasted at the blatant censoring of and straight out rudeness to Ron Paul. The man has more guts for tolerating that kind of treatment than any other candidate could possibly endure. Yet, he continues to be a gentleman, never attacking, and never changing his stance on the issues instead of saying what he thinks people want to hear as all the others do.

Adam   January 31st, 2008 12:23 pm ET

I was very disappointed with CNN last night. Anderson Cooper was extremely disrespectful towards Dr. Ron Paul by repeatedly cutting him off. I used to think CNN was more fair than stations like FOX News, but I see now that I was wrong. Looks like I'll be watching Super Tuesday results on MSNBC.

Daughter of the American Revolution   January 31st, 2008 12:06 pm ET

Wake up AMERICA> Think about what kind of world we are creating for our children and grandchildren. Pray about the candigates and vote your conscience. McCain is just like our current president. War and more War 100 years…..

Eric, Los Angeles   January 31st, 2008 11:50 am ET

Obviously, whichever candidate the media ignores the most is going to be the BEST candidate for America.

That means Ron Paul is the best man for the job, hands down.

Is this CNN or is this FOX? I cant tell with the way they anointed McRomCainney.

Dano   January 31st, 2008 11:43 am ET

If the American people do not see that therring media is steering us to 2 candidates then I am ashamed to be American. Wake up Sheeple.

Dano   January 31st, 2008 11:40 am ET

VOTE AGAINST THE MEDIA. VOTE RON PAUL

Liz   January 31st, 2008 11:40 am ET

I thought there was supposed to be 4 candidates in this debate? I pretty much only saw 2. The 2 that like to sling mud. So when will the other 2 get their debate? You know the 2 that care about the issues not just who they can beat on.

Joy   January 31st, 2008 11:33 am ET

Are you still moderating my comments from last night? And why? Approx. 9:30 P.M. I see you allowed my smaller comment and the longer one wasn't nearly as long as some you have posted. This happened the last time I wrote.

Dano   January 31st, 2008 11:33 am ET

CNN is censoring our comments now too.

earl   January 31st, 2008 11:05 am ET

what a farce, anderson cooper promised paul a response, and never gave it..
why cant all canidates have equal time? isnt that what a debate is?

Snippy   January 31st, 2008 10:42 am ET

I agree with the majority of comments on here…Anderson Cooper did a "P" poor job…and I thought FAUX NEWS was bad…The rudemess shown to Dr. Ron Paul was disgusting to say the least…..thank goodness Huck spoke up or I think that end of the stage would have been forgotten completely…I do hope people get a clue and see whats going on here…by the response on here I sure hope so…you don't have to vote for Ron Paul but for goodness sake lets hear what the man has to say so we can make up our own minds…

Josh   January 31st, 2008 10:40 am ET

Im tired of this bullcrap, Romney blows, Huckabee is a great a powerful wizard who wants you to pay no attention to that man behind the curtain, Mcaine, honestly do i need to say anything about him? Im tired of hearing the same crap from the same people, LET RON PAUL SPEAK!!!! VOTE RON PAUL!!!!!

Allan   January 31st, 2008 10:33 am ET

Worst debate ever. I am surprised Anderson Cooper receives a salary for what he does. Pathetic.

Tim G   January 31st, 2008 10:30 am ET

For shame Anderson Cooper, for shame. I have often thought that CNN was aligned with the Democratic Party, as many others also believe, and I think it was solidified in last night's debate. Let's face the facts here. Does anyone actually think McCain or Romney would be able to snag many Independent or Democratic votes when either Hillary or Obama finalize their role in the Presidential election? Of course they cannot. Does anyone think Ron Paul might be able to do just that? I believe so.

What happened at last night's debate was CNN wanted to poke McCain and Romney to get them to fight like two brothers not wanting to sit in the middle seat for a long family trip. It would benefit Democrats greatly to see McCain or Romney in the final election bid.

Ron Paul is a threat to the Republicans spend thrift attitude and war mongering as well as being a threat to the Democrats ideas on the welfare system. Ron Paul is the only fiscally conservative government representative we have up in the GOP, the only candidate that will focus on the people's right and not on the governments.

We cannot expect the media to be fair and balanced as they all have their own agendas. Shame on you Anderson. I used to look up to you.

katie   January 31st, 2008 10:09 am ET

I am really disappointed in last nights debate. As a first time voter, I need these debates and I need information so I can make a clear decision. It is very clear to me that your program is not for fairness and equality. My mom and dad have always liked Anderson and watch his news show constantly, but after last night, they are both disgusted and do not trust his comments or judgments anymore.
I would like to see Anderson offer an apology to Ron Paul and also to Huckabee and until he does that, he is off our screen and out of our house along with all
those advertisements that support the show.

Victoria   January 31st, 2008 10:07 am ET

I was sickened by this so called "debate" last night. I can't stand Romney and his "rich kid" attitude. I can't stand McCain and his plea to make him president because he was a POW….he's doing exactly what Giuliani did by crying 9-11! Huckabee sounded OK. BUT, Ron Paul was the only candidate on that stage with any sense. How can people say that he can't be president? He understands what needs to be done and he isn't afaid to say so. He isn't overbearing like Romney and isn't full of himself like McCain. He's a man with principles and integrity. THAT is what I want in a president. CNN is a joke, along with all the other media out there. Anderson is pathetic…go back to hosting stupid "Mole" shows! I am sick of how we are being treated in this country by forcing the president on us….choose Ron Paul. At least he will stand up for you.

RE:Paul from Louisiana   January 31st, 2008 10:04 am ET

Paul is sincere and correct. Anderson Cooper has shown his true colors. The networks are all the same..puppets.. all the strings leading to the same military industrial complex corporations who profit from war presidents. And so they give time to only the two candidates who pledge war forever and more of them. Also, notice who the sponsors were during the break..there were only two.. Cisco Systems and natural coal – ask yourself why.

This debate like all you will see on mainstream media are a sham. Putin must be blushing with admiration.

Last man standing   January 31st, 2008 9:41 am ET

TURN OFF THE TV PEOPLE! I can't believe the American public actually buy into this MSM censorship! If you want to learn about the candidates use the internet. We are living in the "Information Age" and still we rate and select our leaders base on information spoon fed to us from "News Professionals" with corporate interests. ARRGGHHH!

Jeshua   January 31st, 2008 8:09 am ET

The only one who made sense was Ron Paul. Too bad, he didn't get as much air time as the rest. I would like to hear more about this man.
There seem to be a bit of bias against this man – he seems to have the balls to stand up for what he believes in, the others seem like clone politicians to me.

Chris   January 31st, 2008 1:26 am ET

How about giving equal time for ALL Candidates??? AC – Show some courtesy to Ron Paul!!!

Bill   January 31st, 2008 1:14 am ET

The american people should be up in arms but they never seem to be. Again the rich and the media will force us to choose between the lesser of two evils.

FirstCasualty   January 31st, 2008 1:14 am ET

Stop watching the idiot box. CNN MSNBC FOX ABC. They are all the same. They didn't let Huck debate and they never will. How do you defeat networks that will not listen? Turn the idiot box off and go watch the debates on Livevideo or Youtube. They cannot broadcast if no one's watching.

Chris   January 31st, 2008 1:14 am ET

Being well versed in monetary policy, I found the discussion highly disappointing. I like both Paul and Huck – Paul has better ideas and Huck is a better speaker. I am very afraid of the country we are leaving for our children after this debate. The problems in the country have only grown over the last 60 years. No one is actually doing anything but providing gibber gabber explanations. I pay enough taxes for 4 median income families. I don’t mind paying my fair share. However, what does Iraq have to gain for us except make me money on my BP stock? Especially when those profits I make are going to be drained at 90% to pay my lack of Social Security in 30 years or the debt we owe China and other neighbors. If you are not scared then you are in for a serious wake up call. But… the sub primes should teach all of us of American ignorance in finance and our willingness to borrow.

James Moore   January 31st, 2008 1:13 am ET

Equal Time – Your kidding me.
C'mon – I'll get back with you in a couple of minutes.
What was that about.

CNN – I thought that I saw four people running for president.

I think that you only saw two.

I think that the we are starting to understand what is really happening.
The jig is up!

Paul from Louisiana   January 31st, 2008 1:13 am ET

Mr. Cooper should be ashamed of himself. Go read the transcript if you missed the debate.

He "promised" TWICE to let Dr. Paul respond in TWO minutes or TWO questions, which he did not, simply ignored him. Even tho Dr. Paul did not get to respond to the previous question and had only spoken for a few seconds before getting cut off.

He called on Dr. Paul to respond to another question, then let Romney continue then ignored him after.

Both Mike Huckabee and Ron Paul got robbed in this debate. I will not watch another debate on CNN ever with Mr. Cooper as moderator. I'm very saddened by his performance tonight, I used to look up to him for how he handled himself during Katrina here in Louisiana. Why is it SO difficult for these guys just to be fair and balanced? That's all we want.

Good job, this makes it official. CNN has dropped to dirty levels of FOX.

Great day for democracy. What ever happen to all Candidates should get EQUAL air time? And if there was no rules to time limits as he pointed out why was Dr. Paul cut off over and over, yet the others were allowed to babble on for minutes?

I've also copy and paste this answer and if you "moderate" my comment out i'll keep reposting it till it goes through. Last time I came to post a comment on your blogs I had to post twice… It's annoying…

Adam   January 31st, 2008 12:36 am ET

I'm really disappointed in CNNs inability to host a fair debate. Why were Huckabee and Paul totally excluded tonight? Did CNN decide that either McCain or Romney is going to be the Republican nominee?

timone   January 31st, 2008 12:35 am ET

Coverage was fair.
Needed coverage of other issues "housing crisis".
Not really interested in the Supreme Court

Could have asked more on the economy
Everyone seemed informed
Nice debate format
Should have given Huckabee more time
On Iraq they should have gone more into their plans
Rebuilding the Military etc.
Each candidate should have had a tough question for the others
Don't Really think much of McCains 100 years in Iraq

Please don't let the candidates ramble
Anderson should have stopped Romney a couple of times
Unless they answered the question they should not get more time.
Loved the debate overall!!!!

jerry   January 31st, 2008 12:35 am ET

This had to be one of the worst debates I have ever seen, I thought their were suppose to be four people running for President, instead CNN acted as if their were only two. Those two acted like children, Ron Paul makes the most sense, I will vote for him, and how about Mike H. for V.P. The news media is beyond comment, no words to describe how bias they are, I hope people go to ronpaul2008.com to find out his views and how much we need him.

Mark   January 30th, 2008 11:22 pm ET

Moderation was extremely poor. Huck and Ron Paul were virtually ignored. I'm including CNN in with my "Fox News" category of journalists.

Where's the objectivity? Don't journalists have some code you are supposed to follow, or are you working for someone else?

Alejandro   January 30th, 2008 11:19 pm ET

Rommey and McCain fought unprofessionally… Paul a craying baby… Was Huckabee the most centered at the dabate?

What Debate TOM   January 30th, 2008 11:12 pm ET

What debate All I saw was a pathetic attempt at a PR campaign for Romney and MCCain. Shouldn't CNN have to report this as a political contribution to MCain and Romney. Go Dr. Paul. People are waking up.

Eric   January 30th, 2008 11:12 pm ET

When did Murdoch buy CNN???

njz   January 30th, 2008 11:07 pm ET

McCain is bumbling and fumbling.
how did he get to be a front runner?
hard to imagine that Schwarzenegger might endorse him…talk about jumping on the band wagon!
this is sad.
is this the best the GOP has to offer? no wonder the Republicans aren't united on a candidate.

Dave   January 30th, 2008 10:47 pm ET

Come on Anderson, your performance was terrible. Dr. Paul called it silly, I call it criminal. I, like many Americans were looking forward to a good debate, there where 4 canidates but you only wanted to listen to 2. Shame on you for cheating the american people by not allowing Dr. Paul or Huckabee have equal time. I think both men should have walked out on you.

Jane   January 30th, 2008 10:47 pm ET

I can't believe how incredibly rude Anderson Cooper and the rest were to Dr. Ron Paul during the California debate tonight. It was so childish and glaringly obvious.

First, Mr. Cooper and company blatantly ignore Paul (one question in the first half hour). Then, when Paul finally had a chance to talk, he politely called Cooper out for skipping him. (Justifiably so.) Then, Cooper rudely cuts off Dr. Paul and skips over him yet again without even giving him a chance to answer the original question he was asked!

For shame, CNN, for shame.

The rest of the candidates get to blab and bicker all they want (and what a fine job they did!), and Dr. Paul was censored so unfairly. I would have loved to have heard him. What a sham of a debate. Oh well, I'll just stick to getting my news from those who aren't in the pocket of big business and the powers that be.

Here's to the Ron Paul R[ ƎVO˩ ]UTION!

Greg   January 30th, 2008 10:47 pm ET

It's time for a tea party with our mainstream media. My stomach is literally upset over the treatment of Paul and Huckabee.

redpillawake   January 30th, 2008 10:25 pm ET

Google RON PAUL!!!! Ron Paul 2008

jANIE   January 30th, 2008 10:25 pm ET

It's clear that CNN and the rest of the MSM has "annointed" who we will have as our candidates. Pravda – here we come!

Brad P.   January 30th, 2008 10:24 pm ET

Well it amazing how a multi millionaire, a 72 year old vet., and a southern baptist preacher can all act like spoiled little babies. Huckabee prefaced every response with a childish complaint about not getting a lot of time. McCain should rename his campaign "The Double Talk Express". Romney just can't control himself from laughing at Ron Paul for no good reason. Also why did Anderson Cooper cut Ron Paul off twice, when Paul barely spoke for 20 seconds after watching the other 3 candidates give very long stuttering diatribes? Ron Paul was the clear winner when he was afforded the time to speak. I do have a problem with the way all of the networks divide theh time up in these debates. McCain and Romney are allowed to have a 3rd grade back and forth argument all the while a true policy guru is out there in the wilderness.

avis   January 30th, 2008 10:24 pm ET

CNN should be ashamed of how unfair this debate was handled. Ron Paul and Mike Huckabee were given very little time to answer questions. Anderson Cooper was clearly favoring McCain and Romney. Also, do most people know that Juan Hernandez, who has dual citizenship in both Mexico and US, is McCains senior advisor? If McCain becomes president it will be amnesty for all ILLEGALS. Why is the media, CNN, so afraid to give ROn Paul equal time. Could it be because he speaks the truth???

Disgruntled   January 30th, 2008 10:22 pm ET

With All Do respect to Senator McCain and his military record…do the Republicans want every question answered with a summary of support from Iraq! Better yet, must we continue the push of the Iraq war down our throats as the center piece for his presidential campaign bid…There are other pressing things to discuss/debate and resolve for the betterment of this country and I would like to hear about something else from McCain other than IRAQ.

Perry Shaw, Porter, Texas   January 30th, 2008 10:22 pm ET

CNN – your discrimination against Dr. Ron Paul is becoming more and more evident as the field of candidates narrow. Do the American people a service and allow Dr. Paul's positions some daylight and broaden the debate beyond the petty "who said what when" poking between McCain and Romney.

Patty   January 30th, 2008 10:22 pm ET

I've heard it said that the media elects the next president. By tonight's debate I'm beginning to think this is true. It looked to me like there were 4 candidates that were ready and eager to respond to the questions. Shame on you for allowing McCain and Romney to dominate the debate. What an insult to Ron Paul and Mike Huckabee. McCain and Romney did nothing but waste valuable time arguing about nothing. McCain was so busy dancing around the questions he never did answer anything directly. In my opinion, Mike Huckabee is not afraid to answer directly and gets right to the point. I sure wish you would have given him more opportunity to share his ideas. You (the panel) did a great injustice tonight to all of us who were waiting to hear what the candidates had to say.

John Camarillo   January 30th, 2008 10:13 pm ET

Can someone please tell me at what peace table will the US sit, where a peace treaty will be signed, and with whom to demonstrate that all is safe in Iraq? Because it ain't going to happen!

Angie   January 30th, 2008 10:13 pm ET

My Grandfather was a war hero, that doesn't mean he should be President!!

libby   January 30th, 2008 10:13 pm ET

I feel John McCain acted very unpresidental as he listened, if he did, to others opinions and answers. I feel his temper started to come through during the interchange between him and Romney. I disliked tonight, the pompous attitude and smurk on his face. Being a war hero, and we is, does not transilate into a president. His temper could be a real problem for our country.

Anonymous   January 30th, 2008 10:07 pm ET

Diogenes was looking for Ron Paul and never found him; he was right in front of you and you didn't see him!
You performed disgracefully and are a discredit to your profession. My view of the questioners has been forever sullied.
Since nothing was addressed substantively, you have added to the further decline of our culture by continuing the "dumbing down"of the citizenry!

Michael   January 30th, 2008 10:07 pm ET

McCain is the ONLY Republican who can beat Clinton or Obama in November. All the polling data in head-to-head match-ups show that McCain is the ONLY candidate who can beat the Democrats. It's not surprising. He also appeals to Independents and Reagan Democrats. Even political analyst Dick Morris says that McCain CAN win in November, and he (Morris) also says that there is no way Romney can win.

Caroline   January 30th, 2008 10:07 pm ET

Would it really have been that hard to give all the candidates the same amount of time to answer the same questions? Ron Paul was seriously shafted tonight, but he STILL makes more sense in 30 seconds than McCain and Romney make with their 10 minutes of scripted drivel.

Dr. Paul has the cure for what's killing this country.

Covelo   January 30th, 2008 10:07 pm ET

Oh, and one more thing: I note CNN is not offering a text-message vote on who won tonight's debate. Is that perhaps because Dr. Ron Paul has won all the previous debates?

Mike   January 30th, 2008 10:07 pm ET

It is becoming clear that the Republican faithful have decided to support McCain. All of these well timed endorsements from popular Republicans smack of a Republican party strategy session where deals have been struck. It is also clear that the Democrats and the liberal press (which includes CNN) have also decided to support McCain, probably because they think that he is the most beatable in the general election. I have finally gotten to the point where I feel the Republican party is hopeless. If they are stupid enough to try and get John McCain elected, they will not get my support any longer . If Romney is not the candidate, then I will write in my vote for Ron Paul in the general election.

PJ   January 30th, 2008 10:07 pm ET

Things you won't hear tonight:
Mortgage crisis:
It's not just bad lending, it's about the thousand of jobs that went overseas and the current 'American" corporations that have employees in other countries so they reap larger profits.

Illegal Immigration:
lets speak the truth..these people are not 'immigrant's…they are foreign nationals who have breached our borders. They do not have the same rights citizens do.
Just when did politicians become exempt from obeying American Laws?

National Security:
It's not about a wall. It's about our government turning their backs on the welfare of the American people so their friends can have more money.
Notice that no one ever mentions our ports and airways.

Trade:
What comes in is equal to, or less than, what goes out.

A New President:
The person who stands up and says, " If I'm elected I will lead and represent the American People…and ONLY the American People" gets my vote.

Brandon Lamm   January 30th, 2008 10:06 pm ET

I completely called it, and they did it several times. They ask McCain a question about Romney JUST so they can ask Romney for a response. Then they ask Romney a question about McCain JUST so they can ask McCain for a response.

Barry   January 30th, 2008 10:06 pm ET

WE WANT HUCK!! We love Huckabee!!!

Jared   January 30th, 2008 10:06 pm ET

Paul,

Great post. Look at all the support for Ron Paul in this Thread.

I really despise McCain. I don't hear anything of substance coming out of his mouth. All I hear is fear and warmongering

Dan   January 30th, 2008 10:05 pm ET

People, please listen: HUCKABEE CANT WIN!! On the news the other day, they even stated that the reason Huckabee is still in the race is so that he can snatch votes from Romney. What McCain did tonight was ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING!! He kept laughing over and over and was arguing about semantics. Please, if you don't want John McLame in office, vote for Mitt Romney!!!

mike watkins   January 30th, 2008 10:05 pm ET

what do mean votes are being wasted evan who is your man

gail   January 30th, 2008 10:05 pm ET

I found McCain and Romney both arrogant, Bush is arrogant, we don't need that type of attitude in the White House anymore. They reminded me of two teenagers with the smirks they diplayed on their faces when Ron Paul was talking, he may be a bit radical but he was right about alot of the things he said. When it came to issues they were all about the same. But Huckabee is by far the best republican running

Lyn Kristesen   January 30th, 2008 10:05 pm ET

I am an American living in Europe. Without doubt McLain is the best qualified of these four. contenders. Huckabee also appeals but was given little chance to prove his worth. The only contender I actually fear is Mitt Romney- he is a politcal
turncoat as well as in truth a champion of the rich.
In our opinion McCain is without doubt the best Rebuplican representative.
He can also heal the sores of the last eight years.
Good Luck
Sicerely Lyn Kristensen

Mark   January 30th, 2008 10:05 pm ET

These debates are simply typical. The moderators need to ask substantive questions and stop asking questions, which degrade the process. I am less interested in what the candidate thinks about each other than I am about particular issues.

We need to know (in no particular order and certainly not inclusive):

1. What are they specifically going to do about crime?
2. What do they think about the North American Union?
3. Are they going to protect our sovereignty?
4. What do they think about the proposed Amero?
5. Specifically how are they going to deal with illegal aliens?
6. What is their position concerning Israel?
7. What is their position concerning abortion?
8. Specifically what are they going to do about the economy?

Stop asking softball questions. Get specific and demand specific answers and when it is not answered, ask it again. We want a real debate and want specific and honest answers, not political rhetoric.

Be fair; ask questions concerning all candidates and not just the ones, which you think we want to hear from. Do not try to make our decision of whom we are going to elect for President.

Vincent Lee   January 30th, 2008 10:04 pm ET

Thanks cnn for censoring my comment, mine was right after a comment BY Walter Sobchak, but for some odd reason mine was left out, there was no cursing or slander!!!! Boycott Main Stream Media

Fiza Yusufzai   January 30th, 2008 10:04 pm ET

McCain needs to stop reading his scripts or cue cards. doesn't he know what he believes in? Is he not clear of his own plans? what a puppet!

Mark- Texas   January 30th, 2008 10:04 pm ET

Anderson Cooper and CNN, Why bother to invite Ron Paul to the Romney and McCain Show? You didn't allow him time to speak. Your blatant bias and propaganda is repulsive! Your new motto, "CNN…the spin starts here!"

Ivan Sanzana   January 30th, 2008 10:04 pm ET

When voting next fall, Think of Uncle Paul !

Nancy   January 30th, 2008 10:04 pm ET

I realize Romney & McCain are leading this race, but I would have liked hearing more from Mr. Huckabee & Mr Paul more. I have listened to every debate by both the Republicans & the Democrats and I truly believe it doesn't matter who becomes President my needs won't be met. I am a senior citizen with a teenage son and I haven't heard many say anything about me. Mr. Huckabee has made more since to me than a lot of them but I also liked Mr. Edwards views and look where he is now. If Clinton becomes our President Bill Clinton becomes our President too and that will be a terrible disaster. This year I feel the true candidate for the President of the United States won't be elected anyway.

Randy   January 30th, 2008 10:04 pm ET

If we cannot trust CNN or other news agencies to properly conduct debates, how can we expect them to report any news in a trust-worthy manner? That is, if CNN is not willing to provide a fair and balanced environment for debates, what makes anyone think that the election numbers they report are accurate? If a news agency can sway a debate without question or repercussion, what guarantees that they will convey truthful election outcomes? Let's face it: everyone needs to do more research on their own to ensure we aren't being spoon-fed biased information… about everything. How else will you know if you don't do your own research? Without your own information, how will you make your own decision? Or, do you want the biased corporate media to decide for you?

Simon   January 30th, 2008 10:04 pm ET

Ron Paul is right about SOUND MONEY.
Read GATA's advertisement in The Wall Street Journal tomorrow.

Mark   January 30th, 2008 10:04 pm ET

RON PAUL is Simply The Best !!!!

To bad that interview online wasn't on regular TV. He would have WON a bunch of Votes with that interview. He is the best on the issues… Iraq, Economics, Policing of the World.

Bill   January 30th, 2008 10:04 pm ET

Shame on CNN and Anderson Cooper. There were 4, repeat 4, candidates on stage. Cooper and the other newsies seemed to avoid 2 of them – Paul and Huckabee – at every opportunity. If you were going to host a 4-candidate debate, they should all have been involved. Cooper allowed it to be the 'McCain and Romney' show.

HPPYGRL7   January 30th, 2008 10:04 pm ET

This debate was very poorly run. We want to hear all the candidates. This program made CNN look extremely angled and dishonest in their approach and I will not bother watching this station again. Run a debate that appeals to the American public's wishes, not your own political interests.

Andrew   January 30th, 2008 10:04 pm ET

CNN manipulators,

I agree, I have a hard time just getting my comments asking for more time to be given to Ron Paul. Huckabee deserved more time too. Problem is Ron Paul is so polite the moderators take advantage of him. I can't believe we had to spend time listening to McCain make innuendo insults. It reminded me of what I couldn't stand about McCain in 2000 when he ran against Bush. Bush and McCain both acted like childish school girls. 8 years later, it is McCain and Romney acting like childish school girls.

Delimar   January 30th, 2008 10:04 pm ET

I've left 5 comments and none have been posted. What should I say that is politically correct enough for you to post it? Should I endorse McCain?

Natalie   January 30th, 2008 10:04 pm ET

It's not just this debate. Ron Paul's picture was not included in the graphics that were flashed going to commercials. NH said he couldn't join the debate because of a poor showing in Iowa. Except they invited Guiliani who had a worse showing, so Jay Leno flew him out and had him on the Tonight Show. More importantly than McCain versus Romney versus Huckabee. You should all be frightened to death, literally, that the media, which is all corporately owned, decides who you get to see and hear and who you don't. It doesn't matter whether you like him or not. None of the candidates or your choices are as important as realizing that the airways which have a policy to report the news equally, flagrantly don't. There was a headline on cnn.com today about Guiliani and Edwards dropping out and at the bottom there were links to Guiliani, Romney, McCain. Now they are going to play "significant" parts of the debate in case you missed it. We can guess what they will show. I've always noticed CNN's bias. How's this? The Boston Globe endorses…, the New York Times endorse…the New Hampshire main paper endorses…why are "news" papers endorsing anyone ever? Doesn't something about that smell?

lynn   January 30th, 2008 10:04 pm ET

shame on you CNN

Shame., Shame, why not let all the canidates get equal time!!!

Now you truely are a liberal news station!!!!!!!!

SHAME ON CNN
SHAME ON CNN

by the way im voting for John McCain

Lyndsey   January 30th, 2008 10:04 pm ET

Endorsement, Schmendorsement. Does anyone realize all of the moderate conservatives that are endorsing McCain. Besides, any American who votes based on what a newspaper editorial board thinks, needs to do more homework.

JReitr   January 30th, 2008 10:04 pm ET

Although he was given the least amount of time to speak, I think Ron Paul articulated the most reasonable explainations for what is going on in the world.

Anderson Cooper did a good job allowing the other candidates try to explain their positions (even clarifying Romney's position for him), although I still do not have a grasp on what Romney or McCain vision(s?) for America are.

Phicrappazappa   January 30th, 2008 10:03 pm ET

Question:
What do you call B.H. Obamas' Presidency?
Answer:
An Obamanation!

Mary   January 30th, 2008 10:03 pm ET

McCain is a liar. He supported the Democratic senators last summer. Did no one watch the senate debates last summer. He will give every illegal amnesty as soon as Harry Reid reintroduces the bill. Did you hear how he tried to dodge the question. I am so mad. CNN would not make him answer the question. This country is in exponential population growth with low skill foreigners who are opeinging restaurants with illegals from their country. Illegals are getting 300 dollars a child because the government says they are orphans. They irony is that their parents are applying for the SSI payments. Of course, McCain wants to limit Social Security – he wants to get votes from the illegals.

kris   January 30th, 2008 10:03 pm ET

by the way – it kind of cracks me up that Arnold's endorsement is now breaking news – I'm sorry, but I just can't take him seriously.

Dale   January 30th, 2008 10:03 pm ET

There is NO significant different between the Democrats and Republicans. The only difference is the war, healthcare, and moral issues. The two parties will eventually merge into one and a new party will arise.

Fredy   January 30th, 2008 10:03 pm ET

Cooper "promised" to give Ron Paul a chance to speak about Liberalism and Conservatism, this comes to show that he has no integrity and is not fit to be a news reporter. CNN is adding fuel to the wave of angry Americans. Ron Paul did kept his cool and showed that he has true strength when it comes to making irrational decisions.

Stephen   January 30th, 2008 10:03 pm ET

This debate was a joke. CNN and Cooper should be ashamed of themselves.

The Democratic debates are just as bad.

Go Bloomberg!

Warren   January 30th, 2008 10:03 pm ET

I'm afraid of having this proud self deserving Jon McCain as President. On the other hand, although Huckabee and Romney have govenoring Experience I think Ron paul clearly showed who wasnt dillusional about our policies on monetary issues, foreign issues at home and abroad, and, he even had some simple solutions to very complex issues. Im a 28 year old black man and tonight I sat for a hour and a half and was genuinely interested in what 4 White men were saying at a national republican debate. In this debate, I seen a 1 man that would get into office and conform to the cycle of the Washington we now know; another man that would have goodwill in everything he would do but could not protect us; and a self deserving war monger who i personally think would start World War 3. Ron Paul is neither of these. I will let you tag the candidate with his rightful description.

Warren Guess

Pete   January 30th, 2008 10:03 pm ET

Substantive issues lacking out the woozoo.
– Can't we have some transparency on the economy,
– on immigration,
– on our existing failed market-led rapidly globalized supply-side agenda?
– Nothing on NAFTA,
– GATT,
– WTO,
– MFN(most favored nation/NTR) questions lacking,
– Suggestion of social services shifted to the states (Romney).
– Spending on fences while attempting to make tax breaks permanent? This sounds like tax cuts and spend. More debt folks. They will sacrifice entitilements to build a porous fence? Build it and they will clime. Come on, rediculous. We all know the failures of NAFTA; catering and promotion of illegal immigration via bilingualism.

This debate was just as bad as Paul getting snuffed by Anderson when trying to answer a previous question; however, McCain and Romney get all the time in the world to make their voice heard?

I can't wait until Diebold time; where's my receipt incase in case I ned to return something?

jason detrick   January 30th, 2008 10:03 pm ET

They should have cut MAC and MITT off when they went on and on and on about things that don't matter… Long winded and negitive… Huckabee is the only true conservitive and true republican… AMERICA WAKE UP AND CHOOSE HUCK!!!

Kristian Morey   January 30th, 2008 10:03 pm ET

I really hate McCain, he is open boarder all the way, Im ashamed that anyone would call him a republican…

Greg   January 30th, 2008 10:03 pm ET

Ron Paul is the only one who is telling us the truth. I am sick of the other politicians fighting over things that don't matter and the news media playing along with them. This country is about to go the way of the Soviet Union with a financial collapse if we don't act quickly to get things under control. Empires have always ended badly, and we are sure looking like one. Ron may be combative, but that is what we need right now.

KEM   January 30th, 2008 10:03 pm ET

CNN intentionally ignored Ron Paul?? They ignored Mike Huckabee?? What kind of debate is CNN carrying on.. The Black Caucus debate was a better debate. The candidates all had an opportunity to answer the questions asked. The Republican party is in trouble if MCCAIN AND ROMNEY are the best choices… I have never seen so much arrogant stupidity between two individuals. All three democratic candidates are better then those two delusional individuals. "MCCAIN is George Bush on steroids." some one stated. GOD help America if any one of those two are president. They are appropriate successors to the party that nominated George W Bush one of the worse presidents in the history of America.
Why do we care who Ronald Reagan would endorse hes dead??? Ronald Reagan would have wanted to change parties because those two are a disgrace just like the incumbent. Ron Paul is entirely too real for the Repulsive Republican debate. CNN just endorsed Mccain and Romney with their slanted and jaded questions. CNN please learn how to conduct an unbiased debate because the networks preferences showed with the question and was reflected in the time that they let the candidates speak. Could CNN not be so obvious in the way they went on that the news station has a preference in certain candidates.

WAKE UP AMERICANS!   January 30th, 2008 10:03 pm ET

America! Wake up! You are being led down the road to perdition! Don't let the MSM and the world globalists decide WHO it is YOU vote for! Ask yourself this question, why won't they give Ron Paul the SAME amount of time to answer the SAME questions given to the OTHER candidates? Because THEY DON'T want YOU
to know what RON has to say, BECAUSE, RON PAUL HAS THE ANSWERS!!!

AND the TRUTH HE POSSESSES THREATENS THEIR HOLD OVER YOU!!!

DO YOUR HOMEWORK AND RESEARCH RON PAUL BEFORE YOU CAST YOUR VOTE!!!

Marine Vet   January 30th, 2008 10:03 pm ET

You have got to be kidding me!! Cooper was a Joke, as was this debate. Almost makes me ashamed to have defended my country so these big media people could take the rights away from the American People. I'ts obvious who Daddy Warbucks is telling us to vote for, wake up people this is a joke. I had no clear cut candidate before tonight but after tonight I'm going with Paul or Huck, must be some reason they want to keep em quiet.

GEORGE KRAMER   January 30th, 2008 10:03 pm ET

I do not believe the moderator was controlling the debate. He was allowing Rommney & McCain argue about who said what like Ron Paul said. This is not what we wanted to hear. WE WANTED PLAIN COMMENTS ON WHAT AND HOW THEY WILL SOLVE OUR DOMESTIC PROBLEMS. Of course only a comment or two about the war.
INSUFFICENT TIME WAS GIVEN TO HUCKABEE AND PAUL.

I think it was a "bad" job of conducting a debate by the moderator.

michael   January 30th, 2008 10:03 pm ET

hey cooper what did the other 2 candidates say?

BJ Tyson   January 30th, 2008 10:03 pm ET

CNN, looks like Jay Leno will be tearing up another "fake" debate and network. Even a simple-minded adult with minimal intelligence is able to see that Dr. Ron Paul is a Patriot who KNOWS the Constitution IN and OUT and is an economic scholar…not a polished-tician who wants more power. He LOVES America and wants to help GUIDE her back to the Founding Fathers protective guidelines.
We cannot continue to finance wars that WE started with NO money and no more soldiers' lives. I WILL NOT allow my sons to go overseas for Romney, McCain, or Huckabee to fight for WHAT…..oil interests for the RICH INVESTORS?! The middle eastern countries are in a HOLY war and have been for over 2,000 years. We DO NOT have the REAL money, jobs, or people to FUND this unwinable war. This is NOT again TERRORISM….There is not country called Terror, There is no race called TERROR…… Any soldier knows you FIRST have to identify the enemy! Bin Laden IS the enemy, and HE is enjoying our spending our economy into the ground along with our wonderful serviceman. NO> NO>NO> THIS IS WRONG, and I just woke up to that fact about four months ago! NO MORE NEO-CONS! NO MORE DEMOCONS! No more big wasteful government.. and WHY do Congressmen NOT participate in Social Security, but WASTE the funds we have given?

bonniebleau   January 30th, 2008 10:03 pm ET

Another debate, another joke. Ron Paul has studied economics for 30 years, these people had better listen up. They will wish they'd of given Ron Paul a few more questions when they discover their 401K is gone and the money they've been saving is useless.

Go McCain…let's keep our grandchildrens' grandchildren in the middle east for 100 years. How prolife is that?

4cubsfans   January 30th, 2008 10:03 pm ET

Would Reagan endorse Ron Paul? The 'Taxpayer's Best Friend', he who has NEVER voted to raise taxes or for an unbalanced budget. Ron Paul is the only one Reagan would even see as Republican.

Tom   January 30th, 2008 10:03 pm ET

Where is the poll to see who won? Dr. Ron Paul has the cure for what ails us.

Clark Guelde   January 30th, 2008 10:02 pm ET

Paul, Does Dr Paul have wide spread support within the military??????

Lee   January 30th, 2008 10:02 pm ET

Integrity is exactly why Huckabee needs to remain in the race. We need people with integrity in the office. Now that's another word Romney knows little about.

Huckabee for President!

Freedom First   January 30th, 2008 10:02 pm ET

Give each candidate a fair share of the time… don't force a candidate on the people. Let them choose.

Paula   January 30th, 2008 10:02 pm ET

Thank you Ron Paul for sticking to what you believe in. I get such a feeling of encouragement when I here you speak, even though CNN was very unfair, and didn't give you much time to speak.

Paula   January 30th, 2008 10:02 pm ET

I think Anderson Cooper was rude to Ron Paul. This was not a real debate. Why not focus on the real issues facing our country.

Denis   January 30th, 2008 10:02 pm ET

Except Mr. "flip-flop" Romney, good debate.

Jason   January 30th, 2008 10:02 pm ET

i was not a Ron Paul supporter but after tonight.. i am.

By the way.. Cnn you make me sick to my Stomache.

John   January 30th, 2008 10:02 pm ET

So will we get anything like an answer about the why there was such a question and time disparity between the candidates? Ron Paul did better than McCain in Nevada and still gets no respect from the mainstream media. I hope enough people out there are not controlled by CNN and Fox news and will use youtube and other internet resources to hear about all the candidates.

ben   January 30th, 2008 10:02 pm ET

wow, what a fixed debate. Let McCain and Romney bicker at each other for hours, don't let Paul or Huckabee speak, then when Paul does try to speak Cooper cuts him off and promises to get back to him on that question but never does.

What a joke of a debate that was. Just like all people should be treated equal-all candidates should be too, and that means equal air time for each politician

Kate   January 30th, 2008 10:02 pm ET

Ron Paul and Mike Huckabee had great things to say. I wish we only could have heard more.

Gabriel   January 30th, 2008 10:02 pm ET

I believe that the debate has gone well overall. Romney's views on immigration are insane, he is taking it a little too far. Immigrants are how this country was built. Immigrants that are already here and are not criminals should be able to stay. Why would you send someone back when they have established a position and a family in the United States? They are contributors to our economy. I thought Romney was Mr. Economy!!!

Walter Cheeks   January 30th, 2008 10:02 pm ET

If Ron Paul runs as a 3rd party candidate and gets Colin Powell to run as his VP, there would be no way that we could lose.

Cameron   January 30th, 2008 10:02 pm ET

Shame on you CNN! To tell Dr. Paul that you would get back to him on the topic of Iraq in a couple minutes and then to ignore him for 15 minutes before asking him an unrelated question is pathetic and shows how little journalistic integrity you have left, let alone common courtesy.

Louise   January 30th, 2008 10:02 pm ET

Not enough time about REAL ISSUES
What about this NORTH AMERICAN UNION—-that we are know connected to
Canada & Mexico??????
No One Talked about that?????
RON PAUL knows about this.

Bill   January 30th, 2008 10:02 pm ET

Ron Paul came in 2nd in Nevada!

Ron Paul won Louisiana, but the GOP will not release the results with the provisional ballots counted!

Where is the real news coverage?

Charles   January 30th, 2008 10:02 pm ET

I am going to Ron Pauls site and make a contribution to his campaign!

Kraig Vardaman   January 30th, 2008 10:02 pm ET

oh my gosh…they're playing over the drama fest…Mitt vs. Mac. Sheesh! Can we just talk about what really matters? Who cares what paper endorses you? Who cares about the arguement on timetables or how one candidate is trying to paint the other? What the heck does any of that matter?

What matters is what each and every candidate thinks – on their own – with an open ended question – and no 'hey what do you think about what he said?' – that stuff starts arguements that nobody wants to see.

Can we ask Mitt, "Exactly how do you propose to 'fix' Washington? What's your specific plan?" Can we ask Ron Paul, "Explain to us how borrowing kills the economy and how to specifically get back on the gold standard?" Can we ask Huck, "Explain how we can build our infrastructure without borrowing?" THESE ARE THE QUESTIONS THAT MATTER!! Can we let them answer without interrupting and without what the other guy thinks about what the other guy thinks?

This debate was despicable due to CNN's control over it! However, it was great because of what Huck and Paul said. It was boring because of Mitt vs Mac – blah blah blah. It became even more boring because of the continuous replay of Mitt vs Mac. Bleah!

Keith   January 30th, 2008 10:02 pm ET

Ron Paul and Mike Huckabee were the only candidates who truly demonstrated real leadership.

Both McCain and Romney have proven that they are out of touch with the American people.

jordan   January 30th, 2008 10:02 pm ET

Gary,

it's hard to take you seriously when you cant even spell 'wasting'. Please place your head back in the sand.

Jeffrey   January 30th, 2008 10:02 pm ET

CNN disgusts me. Thank you for the unbiased debate! (For those of you who couldn't tell, the second sentence is sarcasm.)

joe lomonaco   January 30th, 2008 10:02 pm ET

First I just want tosay that this was the worse managed debate I have ever watched. It was clear that questions were targeted to the front runners and the choice of questions…"looking into Putin's eyes..what do you see is so very presidential"; Unlimited response time made sure that all candidates wouldn't be able to share their thoughts. The moderator..allowing the 10 minute rambling of Mccain and Romney was sickening…a waste of precious time for voters to learn about the candidates.
The questions were too generic and without substance. They may have been questions voted on by the viewres, but having those as a choice of questions says reams about CNN. CNN should have thrown them out and really asked the hard questions.
thanks for taking the time to read this.
joe

Tim   January 30th, 2008 10:02 pm ET

Ron Paul is truely an Independent American running as a Repulican only so he can get some traction in the media. And they still ignor him. Hopefully American's can see through this.

Kyle   January 30th, 2008 10:02 pm ET

I am not a Ron Paul supporter, but you people who talk about Ron Paul being out of touch with the times sound like programmed "BIG Government" robots. It seems as if the idea of the people being empowered to the point of dictating government policy is an obsolete idea and that is a tragedy. It is the nature of our Government to grow, unless we the people keep it in check.

Matt   January 30th, 2008 10:01 pm ET

Mr. Cooper and his producers have done a terrible job with this "sham" of a debate. I was hoping they would be different than FOX & MSNBC – a futile hope, I guess. The media *should* be asking all cadidates the same questions and allowing for an equal amount of face time, to present the candidates to the American people in the same light. The media *should not* be rationing time between the candidates in the same ratio showing up in the polls. As Mike Church likes to say, that's what makes them the Parrot Press: they repeat, they don't report. Alas, they have the right to conduct the debates the way they seem fit. I surely will use my right not to watch CNN anymore.

Clark Guelde   January 30th, 2008 10:01 pm ET

I dont think the Republican party has a clue how much trouble they are in!!!!!!

Wayne M. Davies   January 30th, 2008 10:01 pm ET

I watched tonight's debate with the hopes that it would be a fairly moderated debate that allowed equal time for all candidates. My hopes were quashed with Anderson Cooper's first interruption of Ron Paul. When he did it again I was dismayed! What a blatant disregard of one of our finest congressman. I'm sick of this kind of treatment towards Ron Paul! Then to allow Sen. McCain and Gov. Romney to carry on, taking up most of the debate time with a fruitless argument; utterly disgusting! Why is CNN, MSNBC, and FOX so afraid of what congressman Paul has to say? Why won't you cover his campaign and allow him to participate as much as the other candidates in the debates? How is the American public supposed to an informed decision when CNN and others won't allow Ron Paul's views to be heard?

Maria   January 30th, 2008 10:01 pm ET

I would have liked to hear more of what Ron Paul had to say. He is the only one that made any sense this evening and acted mature.

Kevin   January 30th, 2008 10:00 pm ET

Despite what the media believes, the AMERICAN CITIZENS choose their president. Be an INFOMRED voter. Research the candidates on your own. Go to Ronpaul2008.com for more information on Ron Paul.

Sam   January 30th, 2008 10:00 pm ET

This "debate" was a mockery. Like others have said before me, CNN – Censored News Network. All candidates deserve equal time! Huckabee and Paul a running for president as well, but the way CNN covered it, one would never know.

Gary   January 30th, 2008 10:00 pm ET

If you thought the crash of "29 was bad, it will be nothing compared too the next one. Romney and McCain dont have a clue about true economics. Kill a countrys money and you dont even have to fire a bullet! Ask Soros, he shorted the dollar and then tells the world on national tv the Americans are a bunch of crap! Theres only 1 man that tells the REAL truth and Joe-Blow doesnt understand it because he's too busy watching The World According Too Jim. Like the Govt. says "just keep 'em stupid" These top four will forsake America for there own personal gain. My vote is for RON Paul without question. Isnt it funny Paul has talked about the real issues and now all the rest follow after they grind up the other 'fluff' issues. Because of the Hardee's crowd you mite see a One World Government yet!!!!

Ron Wendoloski   January 30th, 2008 10:00 pm ET

To ALL THOSE WHO SAY "Time for Ron Paul to Go Away – He has only a tiny percent of voter support"

We all know how smart the general public is. That's why morons have been elected to office, and why we are in the mess we are in now. Elections are won simply by name recognition / popoularity / money spent on advertising. In terms of truly understanding the problems this nation faces and how to begin working toward solutions, Congressman Paul is far, far above all other candidates. He is also the most honest.

Yes, Paul has little or no chance of winning, and Mr John Q Public wants to "go with a winner" and "not wastehis vote". But if we were voting for the man who truly reoresents America's ideals and who could do the most good for the country, then we would vote for Congressman Paul. That is, of course, if you were smart enough to. But then again, we all know John Q Public isn't too smart!!!!

If Congressman Paul would run as an Independent, I'd vote for him and thus take away a vote from the other clowns running. But then, Ron Paul is probably too smart to run to waste money on a campaign he won't win. Of course, it would be nice to see him run to make point – i.e. how many people (popular vote) actually support true conservative / libertarian principles and true ideals of our American nation.

brandon   January 30th, 2008 10:00 pm ET

I am heartbroken…… almost to tears……. I can not believe the obvious level of discrepency when it comes down to talk time…… Ron Paul has such a greater understanding of the economy and what makes it fail…..This two hour debate was consumed by babbling. This is crazy to watch Romney and Mccain argue like children….. Those men are clear supporters of war which is obviously the main cause of our nations Bankruptcy threat….. Mccain says we need up to one hundred years in Iraq if need be……. my god….. help us America, vote for the man that will stop this non-sense. Ron Paul is the only one that swears to bring us home immediatly and MAN enough to admit this countries mistakes. HELP US PLEASE…… Ron Paul for president… no room for mistakes….

kathleen   January 30th, 2008 10:00 pm ET

in case I wasn't clear, I think Ron Paul is the only man (or woman) in this election cycle (or any other I can recall) who actually makes any sense. He is a voice asking the people of this country to take stock, refocus, and get our priorities in order. Pres. Eisenhower first warned about the dangers of the military industrial complex, which now owns and operates this country. Ron Paul is the only person out there with enough objectivity to see how far we have gone and supports moving us away from our dangerous ways. He is the only one who understands basic monetary policy.

and to kris, long term, yes infrastructure projects would do all those things unless we let the big developers undercut living wages for American workers by hiring illegals and whoever will work for the least amount of money.

Bill   January 30th, 2008 10:00 pm ET

Gov. Huckabee said more in the limited time he was allotted than both McCaine and Romney put together. Anderson should have had more control and balanced the time between all the candidates.

Patricia   January 30th, 2008 10:00 pm ET

I am disapointed in the debate, dominated and controlled by "ron" McCain and Mit "ronny" . I want to hear more from Huckabee and Paul.

Johnster   January 30th, 2008 10:00 pm ET

Well, the debate was most obviously won by Dr. Ron Paul. He is the only one who speaks the truth and even LOOKS like he is speaking the truth.

Tony D Miami   January 30th, 2008 10:00 pm ET

This is nothing but a McCain-Romney interview!!! Ridiculous. How can Huckabee and Paul be ignored for so long- I caught Paul looking over at Huckabee and both shaking their heads when talking-head Anderson brushed off their responses to ask McCain more questions. This has truly been a very disgusting event, it makes the Fox News debates actually seem "Fair and Balanced".

Joshua V   January 30th, 2008 10:00 pm ET

I don't think many know enough about our government and it's intended role for anything said by Paul to make much sense. As for the other candidates, talk about 'change', and 'progress', and 'leadership' has really hit home with those who love single words. Multiple words in a string can carry a logic, which if understood, can take further logical thought to come to a point, counter-point, objection, explanation, rebuttal, expounding, etc… Those are words we could share with Anderson Cooper or the brains behind this fraud.

youtubeRon   January 30th, 2008 10:00 pm ET

Clearly this debate was biased and unfair. They gave McCain and Romney more time and all they did was dance around the question and brag about how great they would be. Ron Paul answered every question straight forward with reasoning and logic. Dont let CNN decide who you should vote for, they have there own political agendas.

CNN, FOX NEWS < think for yourself.

PDC   January 30th, 2008 10:00 pm ET

The thought of McCain as President is terrifying. The only thing that he brings to the table is his military experience. He is not equip to lead this country through our ecomomic challenges, immigration problems, and the war against terrorism.

Here he goes again…..when asked why he is a more qualified leader, the only thing that he can talk about is military service. Isn't he a Senator….I am sure that the people of Arizona wanted him to be a leader….apparently, he has not been a good leader during his time as Senator, or he would have given that as an example.

Fiza Yusufzai   January 30th, 2008 9:59 pm ET

Paul President, Obama Vice President. The world would be like heaven on earth. :)

Get bulk copies for a buck twenty five each at freedomtofascism.com, and get them into the hands of the baby boomers who don't go on the internet.
I guarantee they will be leaving the dark side of ignorance and be rallying around Dr. Paul.

Mike C.   January 30th, 2008 9:59 pm ET

Mike Huckabee won this debate, hands down!

R Wing   January 30th, 2008 9:59 pm ET

Shame on you, CNN!
Very disappointed in your debate.
I am a Republican (at this time considering switching sides) who is very interested in what ALL have to say during a debate. The smartest guy on the panel, who may have no chance to win, still adds huge value in bringing an enlightened point of view to be discussed!! Ron Paul is certainly unelectable but I grew frustrated watching your host "go for the ratings of a good fight" rather than an intelligent discussion. I think Huckabee is scary as hell, but I still wanted to hear what he had to say.

redpillawake   January 30th, 2008 9:59 pm ET

The BIOmetri's comments of McCain only made me cringe. Google Aaron Russo's interview regarding Nick Rockefeller telling him the elites wish to give us all the chip, so they can control everyones lives

Ronald Reagan   January 30th, 2008 9:59 pm ET

Noooooooo! Get these guys out of my library!

Paul O   January 30th, 2008 9:59 pm ET

This wasn't a debate. CNN should be required to charge McCain/Romney for airing their infomercial…otherwise, this should have been subject to FEC campaign finance contribution limits.

Joe   January 30th, 2008 9:59 pm ET

What a sorry excuse for a debate. The media have hand-picked their favorites. What a joke.

kristine   January 30th, 2008 9:59 pm ET

CNN you should be ashamed. You completely shut Ron Paul out. What a tragedy.

renee   January 30th, 2008 9:59 pm ET

I thought the debate….was a joke!! This wasn't a debate amongst 4 runners it was a childish argument between 2 so called grown men about who was the better "man". Ron Paul nor Mike Huckabee really got a chance to speak and I am seriously irrate that Ron Paul was interrupted mid sentence and cut off more than once, was not allowed to really speak and what happened to the promise we will come back to you in 2 questions to answer that question he wanted to speak up on….I applaud Huckabee for saying what he did about he wasn't there to ref a ballgame.

Dianne   January 30th, 2008 9:59 pm ET

I admit I came in late…but I agree that they seemed to ignore Huckabee & Paul.
Again…I won't vote for either McCain or Romney.

Rick   January 30th, 2008 9:59 pm ET

There is no doubt that Mitt Romney has the vision, the leadership abilities, the values, the brains, and the demonstrated track record of success to be our next President. The slimy way that McCain tries to mis-state his positions is pathetic. He tried to jab at Romney every chance he got, rather than emphasize his own positions… a sign of his own weakness. Vote for Mitt Romney, the man that has the experience and track record of success to lead our country.

Did you notice from the audience meter that Mitt's scores always shot up into the 80's, while McCain's nose dived under 50? People know a liar when they see one.

Wade   January 30th, 2008 9:59 pm ET

QUESTION….
Who is more likely to steer the debates?FOX or CNN?
Thanks for the invite atleast CNN, You do not speak for the people, you exist to inform the people of every opinion of each candidate equally….

So I thought… FAILED

Evan   January 30th, 2008 9:59 pm ET

Huckabee needs to exit the race with the sliver of integrity he has left. Votes are being wasted!

RonP Fan   January 30th, 2008 9:59 pm ET

Notice how Ron Paul is the only guy who got cheers and claps??

Dee   January 30th, 2008 9:58 pm ET

It would be nice that each candidate had equal time to respond to the questions and not be rushed in their comments. Just watch the other candidates with smirks
when they have to let someone else talk. Why does the camera pan to them
when the other candidate is talking?

Ed   January 30th, 2008 9:58 pm ET

Fire Anderson, we deserve better, someone that is more fair on conducting a debate. We want to hear ALL of them not just two candidates.

Carmella   January 30th, 2008 9:58 pm ET

I was very upset with the way the debate was handled. The only thing I was hearing was McCain and Romney argueing about who was better than the other and there sat Ron Paul and Mike Huckabee not being given the courtesy of hearing what they had to say. Paul and Huckabee were the only two who had anything good to say WHEN they were allowed to speak. Out of the hour and a half Paul and Huckabee only got about 10 total of air time. I think it is absolutely absurd the way McCain and Romney kept whining about nothing instead of addressing the issues at hand. I don't think either one of them should be elected President since they can't even answer a simple question with a straight answer.

Hey I have a great idea PAUL AND HUCKABEE IN 2008!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tom Miller   January 30th, 2008 9:58 pm ET

very well run debate. thanks cnn

Jeff   January 30th, 2008 9:58 pm ET

Ron Paul is the only true conservative running. I don't understand why THE conservative talk show host, Rush Limbaugh doesn't give him the time of day. I'm absolutely more of a Ron Paul supporter now than before the debate tonight

Thom   January 30th, 2008 9:58 pm ET

Not much of a debate. Huckabee and Paul were left on the outside…unfortunate. Now CNN will continue to run and re-run snippets of the Mcwar/SlickRomney.

Huckabee has the vote!

mot   January 30th, 2008 9:58 pm ET

Hey CNN, next time why don't you skip the guest question askers and Anerson (CIA boy) Cooper and just let Paul and Huckabee ask the questions?

John Camarillo   January 30th, 2008 9:58 pm ET

I would like very much for CNN to read and respond to the comments may by the viewers. Without a doubt 8 out of 10 comments feel CNN screwed up this debate… intentionally!

Eric, IN   January 30th, 2008 9:58 pm ET

I have trouble trusting the candidates that threw sticks at each other. I found tonight that my top candidate fell tonight while Huckabee rose to the top. I know that the petty fights are the norm for politics but I believe to get to the top you must be firm in your beliefs and use that to gain not putting people down to gain. Yet I don't believe that there are any candidates strong enough to stand up next to the Democratic Candidates.

Dale   January 30th, 2008 9:58 pm ET

CNN=puppets
Fox=puppets
MSNBC=puppets

biased fools. wake up America, you are being brainwashed and manipulated.

RON PAUL 2008

Scott from ZOregon   January 30th, 2008 9:58 pm ET

Anderson Cooper did a good job shilling for his masters.

I wanna know, how much money was backhanded?

First Fox, and now CNN. There is little integrity left in the "news" business.

As an AMerican, I am disgraced by this fiasco.

Fair?

Sick.

Nicole   January 30th, 2008 9:58 pm ET

Answer time

Romney: 26:51
McCain: 22:29
Huck: 15:46
Paul: 7:07

Renee   January 30th, 2008 9:58 pm ET

I think the biggest threat to our freedom and way of life is not Iran or Al-Queda but the America press. Was it impossible for Anderson Cooper to ask a question and let everyone answer and then ask another? There were only four candidates!
I'm wondering why have an election and spend so much money? Let's just let Fox News, CNN, MSNBC and the rest of the press decide who should be president because that's just what the press is doing anyway. There is no way you can say the CNN debate was fair to either Ron Paul or Mike Huckabee. The American press is not the free press we are led to believe but big business with their own agenda.

Tim   January 30th, 2008 9:58 pm ET

Well, It seems as though our hopes have been dashed again! This debate was also a travesty of justice. It appears as though not receiving equal time in discussions was not good enough for the neo-facist jerks that run our media in this country. Anderson Cooper and his panel of floozies just ignored the last 2 members of the debates tonite, so the voters of this country had to sit silently and watch 2 grown men act like children on a playground. It became increasingly obvious that John McCain was not well prepared with facts, so he continued his personal attacks on Romney. While Romney was continually forced to defend himself against those attacks. In neither case did we, the voters (remember us?), get to hear more in-depth discussions of their positions. All the while this charade was going on, Ron Paul and Huckaby had to sit by and listen to a bunch of crap. I think that there were 2 good comments made tonite…One by Huckaby, and one by Ron Paul. Paul asked why we weren't discussing real issues! and Huckaby expressed disgust at having to listen to the other 2 rant at each other! Again CNN has shown itself to be a biased organization in favor of the status quo, and business as usual. The sad part is that if they had actually cared, this could have been a great debate; with a chance for the voters to actually know where each candidate stands on some very fundamental issues! I am deeply saddened by this farce! And, I hope that someone, somewhere at CNN has seen this and is as deeply offended as I am!
Tim Guiney,
An American Voter
Go Lou Dobbs!

Mitch   January 30th, 2008 9:58 pm ET

Since they were in Reagan's library, why didn't they ask the candidates whether it was a good thing that Reagan gave nerve gas to Saddam, provided military training to Bin Laden, and sold stinger missles to Iran?

Paul   January 30th, 2008 9:58 pm ET

I'm Active Duty Navy and have been "boots on the ground" in Iraq. (twice). I support Ron Paul. I admire Mccain's service, but not the man or his policies. Supporting the troops does not mean keeping them in harms way endlessly.

Kim   January 30th, 2008 9:58 pm ET

I think it was a great debate run well by Andersen, which revealed well the candidates personalities. I enjoyed the more relaxed style. Lets be honest, Ron Paul shouldn't be getting all of the questions, and Huckabee is far behind.

I think the debate highlighted the fact that although McCain has wonderful military service, he lacks leadership qualities like an even temper, and lacks a certain amount of intelligence. He has schmoozed a lot, I hope people can see through that.

I enjoyed Romney's discussion of his leadership qualifications, and challenges for international policy. He is a very good communicator, Reagan would be proud. He just has to work on his schmoozing.

Will Stewart   January 30th, 2008 9:58 pm ET

If I was at this debate I would have gotten thrown out from booing about the injustice going on.

Bryan   January 30th, 2008 9:58 pm ET

Ron Paul won the debate tonight. Huck said some nice things but his past actions don't back up his glad tidings. GO RON!!!!

ana   January 30th, 2008 9:58 pm ET

The people want to hear Ron Paul. Apparently CNN does not.

Build a wall? Umm interesting, we the United States played a major role in knocking down the wall in E. Berlin.
Now we want to build a wall South of us, against our Mexican neighbors. Was there a lesson there? Did we miss it?

How about instead of fighting in other countries and then spending our money there rebuilding, we help Mexico. Imagine that. We can share our expertise in teaching, agriculture, business, manufacturing and much more.

Wake up America they certainly would be our greatest ally! Both countries would definately benefit!

Imagine, we would not have to spend billions building a wall and we would not have to worry about hungry people coming here due to the fact they would have jobs in their own country! Wow!

Exura   January 30th, 2008 9:57 pm ET

This is one of the first few debates i've seen, and i have to say it is pretty upsetting how they are cutting off and not allowing Ron Paul any meaningful amount of time to talk. Fairness please.

Craig D   January 30th, 2008 9:57 pm ET

This debate is a perfect example of how a media dominated two party system is the downfall of our country. We should elect officials based on ideas, belief, and policy not how much they match Ronald Regan or the republican cookie cutter. I am a democrat and I would swing to a more conservative view if I could hear more options other than McCain's warlord talk and Romney's capitalist greed speech. Ron Paul has new ideas that are based on the reason why this nation has lasted this long and been a great country. Lets reformat the system and allow people to see the whole spectrum of views social liberal to centrist to libertarian.

michelle   January 30th, 2008 9:57 pm ET

why aren't any of my comments posted? Scared of what I say, just like CNN and other media outlets are scared of what Ron Paul says

Anonymous   January 30th, 2008 9:57 pm ET

CNN NEEDS TO APPOLOGIZE TO THE "OTHER 2 CANNIDATES"

Michael   January 30th, 2008 9:57 pm ET

I'm a Democrat. As much as I prefer McCain over Romney, I'm ALL for Ron Paul as the GOP candidate. The man's got a pair of stones and could go toe-to-toe with Hillary or Barack.

Maynard   January 30th, 2008 9:57 pm ET

I would have liked to get less bickering and more sustance.
CNN allows this conduct to go on….take control of the debate!
I really think people are most ready for real answers and a fair reply from all candidates regarding face-up questions without leading the candidate. Anything else is frankly insulting to our intelligence.

Thanks to CNN for airing the debate, as it is one of the few times that we get information live as it happens without someone elses slant or interpretation and we also receive exposure to the candidates that I believe Americans are most interested in….to get a sense of the candidates speaking for themselves….very important to them and to us as viewers/voters.

Poopfaceone   January 30th, 2008 9:57 pm ET

I would say that Ron Paul was mistreated early in this debate, but when he was allowed to speak he made specific points about the necessary changes in policy that will need to be made. Short and to the point, not rambling and petty trying to grab face-time. You have my vote Dr. Paul, I hope America votes with their heads.

cody   January 30th, 2008 9:57 pm ET

WOW this debate was a joke !!!! WOW !!!!!!!!!
Look at them blow off Ron Paul, four people
and look at the talk time for Paul! Is this really a debate?
I mean damm what is going on here ??? I mean, I guess CNN
really really likes Mccain and Romney Wow thanks for picking our
Candidate for us ! MSM is a joke I'll be getting my News from
Real sources "The Internet" !! Four people, Everyone should have
the same talk time for every question .. Done

Thanks Cnn for making Ron Paul stand up there
wasting his time! FUNNY FUNNY FUNNY A joke a best

Krayon   January 30th, 2008 9:57 pm ET

Ron Paul isn't generating the money & publicity….WE THE PEOPLE are.

When you deny him press coverage, you deny WE THE PEOPLE press coverage.

When you ignore him, you ignore WE THE PEOPLE.

Thank you Melisa…that was a very nice little interview.

Jimmy   January 30th, 2008 9:57 pm ET

The only man that made any sense at all is Dr. Ron Paul.
This is complete and utter nonsense.
Welcome to the McCain-Romney Show.

Maria   January 30th, 2008 9:57 pm ET

I am convinced more than ever that Ron Paul is the ONLY one who CAN make a difference,

Joseph   January 30th, 2008 9:57 pm ET

Clearly Ron Paul was the best candidate, mitt and McCain blew it fighting..

V. Swanson   January 30th, 2008 9:57 pm ET

The only gentleman worthy of the title President is Ron Paul.
The others were intent on talking, beyond the moderator's cut off.

CNN is clearly biased in presenting a fair debate. Anderson Cooper should be ashamed in letting this happen.

There are still four candidates and BBC is probably a better news source to report on all four.

Todd Wilson   January 30th, 2008 9:57 pm ET

This is still going the aftermath is still just about McCain and Romney and very little about Huckabee and nothing yet about Paul not one post debate word. CNN is way to one sided.

Collin   January 30th, 2008 9:57 pm ET

don't know if this will get posted or not if maybe there is a better place, but referring to Ron Paul running as a 3rd party: Bob, do you really think it will happen and do you really think there is any chance he will win running as 3rd party? I am afraid what will happen if he does is he will just draw votes away from the Republican Can. and the democrat will win. Any thoughts?

Wayne   January 30th, 2008 9:57 pm ET

can you at least pretend to be unbiased.

Give Dr. Paul time to speak, and don't cut him off while he's speaking

You are no better than Fox News

Me   January 30th, 2008 9:56 pm ET

RON PAUL REVOLUTION!!!!

BobbyD   January 30th, 2008 9:56 pm ET

THEN we need to DEMAND hand counted paper ballots!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! so they cant steal it as usual!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Karie   January 30th, 2008 9:56 pm ET

This is the most biased debate I have ever seen. I have lost all faith in the integrity of the journalists involved. It would be nice to see all candidates getting equal time. But since Ron Paul has yet to be asked a direct questing, and when he does try to answer he is RUDELY interupted, I doubt we'll even see the debate get better. Its time to hold the people involved with the debates accountable for their lack of integrity.

Clark Guelde   January 30th, 2008 9:56 pm ET

I hope Dr Paul runs 3rd party, I will at least feel really good about my vote!!!!

Dawn   January 30th, 2008 9:56 pm ET

Before you call Romney a flip flopper LOOK UP HIS RECORD, don't just listen to mainstream media….believe it or not, they LIE all the time.

As for McCain, he can't even answer a question about his own bill???? What does that tell you? Plus he says he never voted against the tax cuts???? Check out his record, you will certainly see HE DID!

Ron Paul, come on folks……..you can't really think this crazy man is going to be good for the country?

I do like Huckabee but he just doesn't have the Presidential stature that you need to be the President of the US.

Milty   January 30th, 2008 9:56 pm ET

First, that was the best example of an unfair and under-moderated debate, I have ever seen. Who were the two guys on the left side of the table?

Secondly, all I got out of that "debate" was McCain and Romney arguing over who is better than the other, who's a liar, who started it first.. I had to moderate that kind of "debate" between my 9 year old daughter and 7 year old son just last night.

Lastly, I definitely know who I'm NOT voting for now.

Thank you CNN. I think.

Your debate tonight   January 30th, 2008 9:56 pm ET

Was quite disturbing. You didn't let Ron Paul speak AT ALL and the American people have the right to HEAR ALL CANDIDATES! You did an awful–awful job tonight. I tuned in to hear Ron Paul and heard everything but what he had to say. You let McCain and Romney go on and on and on….that is WRONG!!!! Nothing fair and balanced about your debate tonight.

AMERIANS!

Vote–RON PAUL, RON PAUL, RON PAUL, RON PAUL–GO VOTE FOR RON PAUL! Read about him on the Wikipedia….go to his website….do whatever you need to so you can hear him talk since CNN "Shut him out"!

Your program stunk tonight.

Hercules   January 30th, 2008 9:56 pm ET

I don't think I need to really reinforce the fact that two candidates were ignored and, surprise, surprise, they made the most sense and should be considered the top two winners of this debate.

I just think it's funny that a lot of people here say "I really do like Ron Paul, but let's face it, he won't win the nomination, so I'm going to vote for someone else."

How does that make any sense? If you agree with him, VOTE for him. Obviously he's not going to get the nomination if everyone has that mindset. Plus, if you think the candidate has already been decided, why bother voting at all? This is democracy at its worst.

Tom   January 30th, 2008 9:56 pm ET

A president swears an oath to uphold the U.S. Constitution. Only Ron Paul has a record of doing so. Paul is great on immigration, economics, foreign policy, as well as any other issue.

Vote Ron Paul

Susan   January 30th, 2008 9:56 pm ET

I am shocked at the blatant ignoring of Ron Paul. Anderson Cooper, arguably the best reporter in this decade is doing a horrible job of fairly asking questions and leading the debate. Shame on CNN and Cooper and the "reporters". Give Ron Paul a chance to show us who he is and what he stands for.

Nancy   January 30th, 2008 9:56 pm ET

I tuned in to get educated on all four of the candidates. Unfortunately only two of them where allowed to speak for any length of time. And speak they did, Romney and McCain wouldn't shut-up. I kept track of the questions they were allowed to answer. Romney – 15, McCain – 13, Huckabee – 10, and Ron Paul -7.
Romney and McCain babbled back and forth so much, the other two hardly got a chance to speak.

Ken   January 30th, 2008 9:56 pm ET

I think this debate was a joke. It seems that CNN was no different to Dr. Paul that all the other debates. He was shut out from most of the discussion and it to have Anderson cut him off in the middle of one of his answers was down right rude! CNN must have a hidden agenda like all the other debate sponsors.

Obama Mama   January 30th, 2008 9:56 pm ET

I'm a registered independent and I've been following all the debates very closely.

Dear Republicans, here is why I can't vote for any of your candidates this year:

–Huckabee: I'd love to live next door to this guy. He's clever and funny and I'm sure he's a good person. The religious rhetoric, however, scares me for a million different reasons. I'm happy to hear that he's a man of faith, but that's all I need to know and I don't need him making decisions and representing our nation from the pulpit.

–Ron Paul: I agree with Lisa that he's a 'bit of a nutter', but I like his direct, thoughtful approach and the fact that his ideas are getting airtime. I'm glad I don't live next door to him though, and I can't exactly seeing him negotiating with Putin, if you know what I mean.

–John McCain: I live in AZ, and he's notorious here for not getting along with others. Haven't seen him down in Tucson for ages either. I voted for him years ago, but I think he has burned too many bridges in Washington at this point to be an effective president. Plus–what's with the smug and incredibly disrespectful look on his face anytime Ron Paul is speaking? What a turn-off!

–Mitt Romney: The Republican John Kerry. Seriously –don't tell me you don't see it too! Be honest. He also isn't doing himself any favors when he sports a smarmy look through every debate.

sweetjanenc   January 30th, 2008 9:56 pm ET

MIKE HUCKABEE………….TRUE TO OUR COUNTRY!!

zack   January 30th, 2008 9:56 pm ET

Shame on you CNN, you let McCain and Romney flap their gums about nothing for 75% of the time while almost ignoring Huckabee and Paul. You owe both of these men an apology and free airtime over this blatant disrespect.

Lori   January 30th, 2008 9:54 pm ET

Ron Paul is America's only hope. Everyone else on both sides is More Of The Same. The establishment likes keeping us in our place and deciding who we should vote for, which is why they don't let anyone but their Chosen Candidates speak.

We need "None of the Above" as an option on November's ballot. If our choice turns out to be between McCain/Romney and Clinton/Obama, I'm sure "None" would win.

This whole campaign makes me want to throw up.

Elijah   January 30th, 2008 9:54 pm ET

Anderson Cooper,
I read your book, I am… was… a big fan. With all due respect, that was the most unbalanced debate I have ever seen. This was the Romney/McCain show. I would have expected that from Fox News, but not CNN. In all honesty, you should feel embarressed. Shame on you Anderson for perpetuating such a biased debate.

Jim Guenther   January 30th, 2008 9:54 pm ET

Congressman Paul is the only "REAL" conservative left. Let us hear more from him.

Joey   January 30th, 2008 9:54 pm ET

CNN, the American people would like a fair debate, with debate time distributed equally among the candidates. Both Huckabee and Paul were given less time to speak than McCain and Romney individually. We don't want you to coerce the American people to vote for who you think is best for us. Let the people decide.

S,Michele Brown   January 30th, 2008 9:54 pm ET

I thought this debate was a farce. I am proud to support Ron Paul. He is a candidate on equal ground with the others. Why isn't he given equal time and respect? At least Huckabee had the intestinal fortitude to tell Anderson that he was being treated unfairly and wanted the opportunity to express his views. CNN – you should all be ashamed! I should be able to hear the points ALL OF THE CANDIDATES want to make and make an informed choice with my vote! You have no right to censor these debates!

Renee   January 30th, 2008 9:54 pm ET

Once again, CNN looks for good news clips. Once again CNN wants to tell US who the front runners are. Huck and Paul were not given equal time. This is totally ridiculous. I can accept that mccain and romney get a little more time. BUT PLEASE. I think Ron Paul got less time in the debate then the last one. Huckabee was totally screwed by Cooper and his cronies. The poor guy is being eliminated by the media because they view it as his fault mccain wil be elected. At least he can feel Ron Pauls pain again.

CNN,
Stop trying to tell us who we want. Show us all of the candidates equally and LET US DECIDE FOR OURSELVES. This is disgraceful journalism.

Robert   January 30th, 2008 9:54 pm ET

Now even after the debate is over the only canidates getting any face time are Romney and McCain. Clearly CNN wants the Democrats to take over the country!

Carolyn R. Beever   January 30th, 2008 9:54 pm ET

You were very bias in giving time to candidates. You should give equal time to all. Ron Paul and Huckabee should have been given more time. Shame on you for deciding who is the most important.

V   January 30th, 2008 9:54 pm ET

I saw 23 Ron Paul signs all around Seattle today. I haven't seen a single Mcain, Romney, or Huckabee sign in weeks. WT(C)F

1kim   January 30th, 2008 9:54 pm ET

I am primarly a democrate. Watched to see what was said. Thought CNN was totally unfair in the balance and format of the debate. Equal time and Equal say. I was really disappointed. If you are not going to let them talk why invite them or better yet why have it as a debate. Invite them to Larry's show for 2 hours……..
I think you own Huckabee an Paul an " I am sorry PUBLICLY!!!!!!

Michael   January 30th, 2008 9:54 pm ET

I am very disappointed and disgusted at CNN and Anderson Cooper. I don't know what others saw, but i didn't see a debate. Only two candidates were involved in this, and that is extremely unfair. A debate with four viable candidates left in the race should feature equal time for all four, not questions for only two candidates. Even when Dr. Paul and Mike Huckabee attempted to answer questions, their responses were cut short, cut off, or they were not even allowed to respond. I am sick and tired of the bias and unfair version our news media gives us. Dr. Paul and Huckabee probably had very good answers to the questions, but were left out. CNN chose to show bickering and bias instead. CNN has lost a viewer now because of this. I no longer view them as the "most trusted name in news", I no longer view them as fair, and I will no longer watch this station.

By the way, Ronald Reagan would endorse Ron Paul. He supported Ron Paul in 1978, and he sure as hell would support him in this election if he was alive.

Greg   January 30th, 2008 9:54 pm ET

ronpaul2008.com Donate February 1st money bomb!!! Lets get him on top! He deserves it

Drew S.   January 30th, 2008 9:54 pm ET

CNN, your blatant snubbing of Ron Paul was disgusting. Maybe you disagree with what he has to say, but you invited him to the debate and you should have let him speak.

frances beal   January 30th, 2008 9:53 pm ET

Want to delete my comment from the blog for a second time? I will repeat, this debate was a sham and a disgrace. The fact that you focus on those two clowns and not give any time at all to Ron Paul makes you the MOST ILLEGITIMATE news channel on the air!

Richard Stevens   January 30th, 2008 9:53 pm ET

Lets define conservitive at the convention. Romney and Paul. The power of Money or the power of the PEOPLE.. The bill of rights, the foundation of our country was about the people. freedom .our economic system is SLAVERY.

Would have liked to hear a lot more Ron Paul and a lot less McCain and Romney sparring. I would have liked to have seen more health care questions directed to the only M.D. present. A lot of time was wasted on who exactly said what – not relevant.

sara   January 30th, 2008 9:53 pm ET

It would be preferrable if the journalists did more than 'stir it up' and were informed enough to ask pointed follow up questions. For example- Romney pronounces a healthcare plan in which "if you can afford insurance you have to buy it or pay for your care- no freeloaders."
This is nonsense since few ordinary folk could afford to pay for serious acute care as in a car accident, heart attack, schizophrenia or renal failure. medical bills for these problems can be $100,000. Ordinary folks WITH insurance are facing bankruptcy in record numbers right now.
A useful debate requires an informed questioner.

Springer   January 30th, 2008 9:53 pm ET

Anderson lied to Ron Paul. I heard it, you heard it, we all heard it. Anderson promised Ron Paul two questions that would come right after he interrupted Ron Paul from trying to add his thoughts on the two4+ previous debaters comments. That is an insult. CNN owes Ron Paul TV time to tell the American people his thoughts about what the next president should be thinking about, preparing to do to keep our country from being another Rome.

Candi   January 30th, 2008 9:53 pm ET

Hear from Huckbee!!!!!!

JW   January 30th, 2008 9:53 pm ET

How about letting Huckabee and Paul speak and not cutting them off? Not a very democratic debate. Poor handling.

Art   January 30th, 2008 9:53 pm ET

Ron Paul seemed mighty presidential tonight. I wish he would have had time to speak. More Media Bias toward the establishment Globalist . Way to go CNN nice work.

ALE   January 30th, 2008 9:53 pm ET

That was a debate? As far as I could tell it was just Romney and McCain squabbling about nonsense. The two other candidates were overlooked and in some cases completely disregarded. If CNN wants to conduct a serious debate then they have to give fair amounts of time to all candidates. Otherwise all they're doing is perpetuating this mockery of our political system.

This was a bad joke, not a debate.

Richard   January 30th, 2008 9:53 pm ET

It ain't the "Best Political Team" and this debate just proved it!!!

Molde42   January 30th, 2008 9:53 pm ET

SOOOO… disappointed in Anderson Cooper who cut off RON PAUL at least twice!!! How unprofessional! When Ron Paul was able to answer, he spoke in such a hurried manner that I think he was being shuffled along by the CNN people. I guess the media already has their "pick" for the American sheeple, shame on you!!

BOB   January 30th, 2008 9:53 pm ET

Ron Paul is going to run 3rd party he just didnt want to announce it because on super tuesday.

Clark Guelde   January 30th, 2008 9:53 pm ET

I suspect McCain and Romney are secret lovers?????

BobbyD   January 30th, 2008 9:53 pm ET

I guess McCain supporters love his comment of the US needing Biometric ID's. He wants the chip in ALL OF YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL!
Hes a NWO puppet!!!!!!!!!!!!
Funny how the ONLY NON NWO person got ignored.
GO RON PAUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

dave nicholson   January 30th, 2008 9:53 pm ET

What debate? You made it the chosen two show. You helped me decide for Ron Paul.

Terry   January 30th, 2008 9:53 pm ET

RON PAUL 2008.

Ruth   January 30th, 2008 9:53 pm ET

McCain is just a mean person and he just wants to argue, not answer the questions. I always enjoy hearing what Huckabee has to say. He's a true republican and I am disappointed that CNN allowed so much air time to McCain and Romney

Steve   January 30th, 2008 9:52 pm ET

I can't believe you out-foxed Fox! Don't be afraid of Ron Paul's popularity. Stop being the puppets of the establishment. Ron Paul has an important message and the American people are intelligent enough to make their own choices. Given equal media coverage the Ron Paul campaign could be soaring, especially after the results from the Nevada and Louisiana caucuses. You know, the ones you don't talk about. Your treatment of Ron Paul tonight was beyond disappointing. I can't believe you out-foxed Fox. Anderson Cooper makes me loathe Hannity a little less….

CNN manipulators   January 30th, 2008 9:52 pm ET

Romney was asked, oh, around 35 questions.
McCain…about 35 too.

Huckabee…14.
Paul…8.

Was this a bias, manipulated debate? Let me try and guess…

Jerry   January 30th, 2008 9:52 pm ET

Yea that would be great.. Ron as an independent. Works for me.

Jordan   January 30th, 2008 9:52 pm ET

I thought the debate was miserably done. The hosts totally ignored Ron Paul and Mike Huckabee. Ron Paul was was cut off in some of his questions with less than a few seconds of speaking time, while John McCain was allowed to ramble on about a list of people who support him for minutes. Ronald Reagan would be ashamed at the poor state of politics today…

Darryl   January 30th, 2008 9:52 pm ET

oh, it's time for the best of the McCain Romney Show. Paul's name will not even be mentioned.

Wade   January 30th, 2008 9:52 pm ET

OUT OF 10

Mccain = 0
Huckabee = 1
Romney = 3
Paul = 6

Mccain could not answer a question(beating around the bush)
Romney sounds intelligent but not to run the country
Paul is staight to the point and has actual answers(if only he had more air time)
Huckabee sounds a lil scripted

ByeByeRudy   January 30th, 2008 9:52 pm ET

The only two honest people left up there were Ron Paul and Mike Huckabee.

The ONLY one that Ronald Reagan would have endorsed is Ron Paul. Reagan had already spoke praise for Paul and what he stood for.

Does anyone honestly think that Hillary or Obama will not shred McCain to bits in a debate? He does nothing but name drop. And this is the front runner??? What a sad state of affairs. The media machine has shown its hand in destroying this country.

I was for Giulliani….I am now 100% for Ron Paul.

ca cookie   January 30th, 2008 9:52 pm ET

Mc Cain's smirks and body language really tell me he's a lying ___ of a _____! I really like Romney's ideals and goals. I must honor his service, but he reminds us all the time of his service – much like John Kerry did. I'd rather hear more from Romney who offers up ideas and solutions.

Adam   January 30th, 2008 9:52 pm ET

The behavior of McCain was reprehensible. He came across as a complete slimeball, Romney however was not much better. Huck and Paul came across as by for the most well spoken candidates when the actually were given time. They both actually answered the questions they were asked instead of just attacking other candidates.

The disparity in time allotted to the candidates was disgusting. CNN, it is not your job to pick the frontrunners, it is your job to present them all with equal time and allow the people to decide.

erb   January 30th, 2008 9:52 pm ET

Anderson Cooper did an extremely poor job and certainly and unfair job of moderating the debate. In consisted of two candidates arguing against each other. What do they really plan to do if elected?

Who can beat the Dems?   January 30th, 2008 9:52 pm ET

Only one candidate on either side voted against the "war" on Iraq.

Tech   January 30th, 2008 9:52 pm ET

Romney turned thumbs down on Social Security. According to Mitt, the U.S. citizen can pay for war, foreign aid, congressional benefits, but don't expect any help in financing your old age. Boy, is he a typical CEO. This attitude is exactly why the U.S. is in the shape it is now. Hold no one at the top responsible, continue those big bonuses, ignore the working stiff.

Tim   January 30th, 2008 9:52 pm ET

What a bogus BIASED debate.
What would it take to get a FAIR debate where each candidate gets "equal time"??
I am very disappointed with CNN, I felt like I was watching FOX.
Blahhhhh. 5 thumbs DOWN.

Jeremy Meldrum   January 30th, 2008 9:52 pm ET

Romney is so much better than these other guys. Why does McCain think that being in a cage for 6 years and then having bills shot down in the senate qualify him to lead? McCain wouldn't be anywhere in this race if the media didn't love him so much.

John   January 30th, 2008 9:52 pm ET

These are the most ridiculous debates i have ever seen. Let’s let Dr. Ron Paul speak without being interrupted. The media is trying silence his hope for freedom and peace. There is only one candidate that has a real plan to get this country and its failing economy back on their feet. He is prepared to show us they way but he must be allowed to be heard.

Elgan   January 30th, 2008 9:52 pm ET

Hey Anderson did you hear of Ron Paul he is at your school yard debate and so is Huckabee. Go back to the show The Mole!

Ken2   January 30th, 2008 9:52 pm ET

Huckabee wants to amend the Constitution and insert God everywhere. I don't want to live in a theocracy just as I don't want our interference in the middle east to keep us in perpetual wars that are masked in religion but actually about power and control of people and resources.

Go Ron Paul!!!!!

Ed   January 30th, 2008 9:52 pm ET

I am too disgusted about the amount of time each candidate gets. Ron Paul hardly get any chance to speak. Even your video on the debate highlight you only have Romney and McCain.

Come on CNN you can do better or is there any special interest involved here???

rebecca   January 30th, 2008 9:52 pm ET

I SERIOUSLY HATE MCCAIN AFTER THAT DEBATE.

DJ   January 30th, 2008 9:52 pm ET

The way that is looks to me from reading the comments is that RON PAUL is the clear WINNER tonight – OUR UNHEARD HERO. INTELLIGENT people are going to vote for RON PAUL the one's that have woken up. Unfortunately when we go to vote for RON PAUL the votes will be rigged as usual. DONATE TO blackboxvoting.org who are one of the watchdog groups trying to prevent the fraud going on in the voting process. Demand paper ballots. Vote: RON PAUL – he is our last hope.

Eric   January 30th, 2008 9:52 pm ET

Is Anderson or anyone at CNN seeing these comments, or are they ALL "Awaiting Moderation"?

America first   January 30th, 2008 9:52 pm ET

Why did CNN limit the time for Ron Paul while allowing all the others to blather on? Why did AC repeatedly cut of Ron Paul while allowing the others to blather on? What a joke of a debate. It should have been called the Romney/McCain show.

EPMims   January 30th, 2008 9:52 pm ET

First of all, you again were very disrespectful to Dr. Paul, in that you ignored him most of the debate, almost every single time he did get a chance to speak, you interupted him and didn't allow him to finish, but allowed all the other candidates to talk as long as they wanted to without respect to any time limits. All of your ignoring and allowing only the ones you want to speak does not do anything but show people who are really watching, that there is something very special about the very distinguished congressman and doctor, Dr. Ron Paul. Why else would you be so afraid of him? You know he speaks the truth! America is sleeping, but when they do wake up I hope it's not too late.

John Barja   January 30th, 2008 9:52 pm ET

In only a few minutes, Ron Paul was able to resounding WIN another otherwise boring debate. McCain and Romney was like watching high school girls fight.
too bad for america.

johnfsalo   January 30th, 2008 9:52 pm ET

I really think the debate was poorly run. Not all the candidates had equal time to express their views.
This is typical of our system to only allow the front runners to talk. Only the same old political choices exist.

We need to change our country.

Beverly Thomas   January 30th, 2008 9:52 pm ET

McCain is a whiner. In my view, Romney was much clearer. It was totally unfair that Ron Paul had almost NO VOICE in the debate, however he was the most clear on what the role of the Federal Government is supposed to be.

This discussion (it was NOT a true debate) was scued toward McCain and certainly was not fair and equal.

Peter   January 30th, 2008 9:52 pm ET

Way to go, CNN. You just created more Ron Paul fans.

mark   January 30th, 2008 9:52 pm ET

I'm literally sickened by the very obvious candidate-backing that CNN is doing! I expected them to actually be fair and balanced. I am so disappointed in both CNN and Anderson Cooper. Huckabee and Paul are running for the presidency of the United States of America, for pete's sake! Show some respect to them, and show some respect to the American people. We can actually make up our own minds, without any "guidance" from the media.

loosejoint   January 30th, 2008 9:52 pm ET

It was lame but almost worth it to hear Paul break up the show.It was shot goofy too.i liked nothing about it.peace

Donna Thayer   January 30th, 2008 9:51 pm ET

I thought Huckabee and Romney made the strongest case for who should be our next President. I favor Romney but was very impressed with Huckabee's stand on the issues.

McCain spent most of the debate skirting the issues. He didn't seem to ever really answer the questions posed to him. He also misquoted and quoted out of context. I also don't think being in the military qualifies a candidate for the office of the President.

I am a lifetime Democrat who changed to the Republican party but if McCain is nominated and runs against Obama I will vote Democratic.

Adam   January 30th, 2008 9:51 pm ET

As usual, Ron Paul was barely given enough time. Thank you for talking to him in the Spin Room as I see you're doing right now.

He is the only candidate that makes any sense at this point, no wonder Huckabee is stealing his ideas.

Bob   January 30th, 2008 9:51 pm ET

I just erased CNN from the channel lineup on my television set.

stupid   January 30th, 2008 9:51 pm ET

This "debate" was a farce. Anderson, you're the worst of them all.

Numinous   January 30th, 2008 9:51 pm ET

Has Anderson Cooper and his employer no shame? The EXTREME bias demonstrated against Ron Paul by ABSOLUTELY REFUSING to let him finish his responses to what few questions he was allowed to address was nothing short of despicable. Interesting to hear how the library erupted in applause when Dr.Paul correctly took McCain & Romney to task for arguing about "…who said what, when."

Ron Paul's eloquent response to the question of whether our country is better off today than 8 years ago was surely this evening's highlight moment.

Jeanne H   January 30th, 2008 9:51 pm ET

I think it was very unfair that this debate was between Romney and McCain. There were two other candidates who had worthwhile things to say and all you could do was focus on two men who only wanted to blow their own horn.

Ron Paul is the only candidate who had anything substantial to say. It's too bad CNN can't run a fair debate where all candidates have a chance to talk. Why did CNN cut off McCain and Romney like they did Ron Paul. They weren't saying anything worthwhile anyway.

Marjorie Miller   January 30th, 2008 9:51 pm ET

Here's a question for the candidates:

What do you think about the media censorship by the corporate-owned government? What does it mean when the only congressman who impeaches the President is excluded from media debates, and the only congressman who is opposed to the robbery of American's by the privately owned Federal Reserve Bank thru the IRS "bank fees",is almost totally blacked-out of the media, though he wins all the internet and debate polls, and has gotten 2nd place in a couple of elections already? Do you think that maybe the government and the media have the same boss? And the fact that a bank gets audited, and lost money is found, and people are charged with crimes. But when people lose votes, it's just called an unfortunate mistake, and no one goes to jail for it. Why is there no Vote audit trail? if someone does not want to get caught stealing, they don't leave fingerprints. Only the guilty need to hide. Which is what they do with the vote count. Not a single question from the media about the vote count. The vote is the last chance for a non-bloody revolution. If you take the vote away from the people, you leave them no other choice.

Jeff Hagen   January 30th, 2008 9:51 pm ET

Anderson Cooper is the wrong moderator. How about giving Ron Paul equal time? Talk about unfair and a stacked deck. No time rules? This is biased and unfair.

Lori   January 30th, 2008 9:51 pm ET

Romney was very rude interrupting everyone he could to get more than his fair share of time. We don't want another pushy arrogant prez. What we need is someone who takes the time to listen and reason with people, like Mike Huckabee.

Frank   January 30th, 2008 9:51 pm ET

Why did CNN invite Ron Paul to the debate? Is it because they would be left with an "odd" number of candidates.

Walt, AZ   January 30th, 2008 9:51 pm ET

Go Ron. That's straight talk!

Barb   January 30th, 2008 9:51 pm ET

I just want to say that I am on to CNN's agenda.
I sent two entries to this blog, written respectfully and clearly. They were both 'moderated' and removed from the blog. Was it because my blog entries questioned McCain's honesty regarding illegal immigration, and his fuzzy thoughts on Gov. Romney's comments regarding the timeline/surge?

smellytuna   January 30th, 2008 9:51 pm ET

This is pure NLP. Neuro Linguistic Programming.

As soon as the debate is over, they get some PUNDIT to come on and espouse his views.

Want to know what that does? It gives the average viewer at home – one who may not be up to speed on the policies being debated or the details involved in the discussion – a viewpoint to call his own.

Imagine this for a minute. Put a BIG SMILE on your face.

I bet you dollars to doughnuts, you started to smile as you read that line.

It is the same thing. Pundits have NO place in politics. They skew the minds of the American People and spoon feed them disinformation mixed with unimportant emotions.

I mean, who really cares that Romney and McCain "duked" it out? They only did because the moderator, who was less than stellar, couldn't keep the little boys in line.

Vote Ron Paul

Andrew   January 30th, 2008 9:51 pm ET

This debate was a joke. Ron Paul and Mike Huckabee were both incredibly well spoken and pointed in their arguments, whereas the other two tended to ramble and throw elbows. This was ridiculous! And with all do respect Garry, Ron Paul is wasting no one's time – he is conveying a message that many Americans believe, as you said yourself, he has good points and it is necessary that those concerns are given a voice. Additionally, he can't be "wasting everyones time" because CNN and much of the media in general does not GIVE him any time in the first place.

RON PAUL 08   January 30th, 2008 9:51 pm ET

Oh yeah, and Reagan actually did support RON PAUL.

Paul   January 30th, 2008 9:50 pm ET

This "debate" was a joke. Anderson Cooper is a terrible moderator. He completely lost any semblence of control. How about some equal (or at least fair) time for the candidates to speak. Terrible! Horrible. Mccain looked like an ignorant and arrogant child. Romney should have set the record straight then moved on. He looked desparate. Ron Paul should have taken his shoe off and thrown it at Anderson Cooper. Huckabee was funny and beginning to feel Ron Paul's MSM pain.

RP2008 !!!

judith   January 30th, 2008 9:50 pm ET

I was surprised that my comment was prefaced with a statement " waiting for moderation"

and then another person said lots of their comments were deleted…..
this is concerning

michael   January 30th, 2008 9:50 pm ET

ron paul and huckabee were on the stage too, why dont these people discect whay they said…oh wait CNN didnt let them talk

Melissa   January 30th, 2008 9:50 pm ET

Thank God the debate is over. I couldn't stand listening to Romney/McCain bicker anymore. Terrible debate.

Alanna   January 30th, 2008 9:50 pm ET

Ron Paul should get PROPS for not subcumming to CNN's IMMATURITY!

Dave Millon   January 30th, 2008 9:50 pm ET

I'm a Romney supporter. But no matter who is in what place in the polls, everyone should get equal time.

I don't know who choses the questions, or who choses who gets how much time. But YOU were the moderator Anderson Cooper, and the fault WILL be placed on you. You have disgraced yourself and have disgraced the name of cnn by rudely cutting of Dr. Ron Paul off twice and giving Paul and Huckabee very little time.

Nobody will watch you anymore because it is obvious you are unfair, or it is obvious that someone is paying you to give the questions to the others and the chances to mccain and romney.

Anderson, if you didn't like the way the debate was going, you should have stepped up and changed the format. You are a disgrace to America because Americans watch your show to find out about the candidates and 2 of the candidates did not get shown enough.

bobbi   January 30th, 2008 9:50 pm ET

i am sure glad that mccain had his notes with him, so he could remember what his positions were . as it stands now, i definately will not vote for him, I think romney did quite well tonight, and think he knows what is expected of him about the economy and wish Ron Paul was also given the time like all the others had.

Richard Snow   January 30th, 2008 9:50 pm ET

What a poorly facilitated debate! Anderson, where were you? We got the message after the first round of questions about difference in the Iraq withdrawal timetable. Even Ron Paul got it and so did your larger audience!

There really are three viable candidates in the run for the Republican nomination but you denied us the opportunity to actually hear the candidates dive deeper into the actual issues. Why couldn't the panelist guide the discussion so that we were able to hear their responses.

Your choice of questions and your management of the debaters lacked insight into the needs of the electorate to walk away with a clear understanding of the candidates positions and the depth of their knowledge and the details of their plans to move the economy and foreign policy forward.

You're asking the same questions over and over. Really guys. We get it. Now you're re-runing the same information again in your summaries. Stop the rehashes.

Sheri   January 30th, 2008 9:50 pm ET

Well this was one of the worst debates I have watched so far with the one on MSNBC being a close 2nd. I don't understand why the media has already determined that its a 2 man race when there were 4 candidates sitting on that stage. Now I remember why I watch Foxnews all the time. At least they gave all the candidates fair time.

Sam   January 30th, 2008 9:50 pm ET

To Anthony who says we need to get over this Ron Paul Stuff. This Ron Paul "stuff" is the Constitution!

Charles   January 30th, 2008 9:50 pm ET

Thanks CNN for giving Paul some time at the end!

Brian   January 30th, 2008 9:50 pm ET

To Loopster,
name calling is unnecessary.
We who are educated are listening to Ron Paul are not seeing "UFOs"
We are seeing an America that is spending too much of our money on a failed foreign policy.
Calling Ron Paul supporters names and crazy in my opinion shows just how despirate the other camaigns are getting.
But , then again why else would Republicans be so afraid of a Ron Paul 3rd party ticket.
So go ahead and call us names instead of debating points.
It shows your real position of despiration

RON PAUL 08   January 30th, 2008 9:50 pm ET

Haha well at least they gave Paul some time now. GO RON PAUL!!!

Jarmey   January 30th, 2008 9:50 pm ET

I hope Ron Runs 3rd party because I cant vote for any of these jokers

democrat   January 30th, 2008 9:50 pm ET

The format of this debate was the worst one of all the debates!!!

Nathan   January 30th, 2008 9:50 pm ET

I am very ashamed that the "news leader" (CNN) only gave Huckabee a few minutes to answer questions while McCain and Romney took they're time with a bunch of pointless arguing!

DRC   January 30th, 2008 9:50 pm ET

It sounds like these gentlemen are asking America for four more years of what we had the past seven years. No thank you!

Joey   January 30th, 2008 9:50 pm ET

McCain did horrible. The Romney / McCain exchanges frankly sucked, not worth the time they were liberally given. More evenly spread time honestly would have made the debate a lot better. Blatantly facilitating the promotion of the conflict between two candidates when there are two others still in the race is kind of…blatant.

carlos   January 30th, 2008 9:50 pm ET

well if McCain or Romney wins the nomination I will offically vote for someone other than a "Republican" *or this version of republicanism*

jimbo   January 30th, 2008 9:49 pm ET

I'm a DTS voter in CA. I'll vote for any of these jokers before I vote for Clinton. Romney looked good tonight- first time I started thinking about voting for him. GOP: don't be afraid of Ron Paul, he's much better for the party than you obviously think.

ilikefreedom   January 30th, 2008 9:49 pm ET

gerardo i would normally agree being a dem myself but when you have a great man like paul in the conservative party you have to consider them.

Hakeem   January 30th, 2008 9:49 pm ET

I thought this was to be a debate between the canidates (4), but Anderson Cooper and panel felt that only two exist. Where is the fairness, somethings never change. That's why the American people are disgusted with politics.

Rebekah (GO HUCKABEE)   January 30th, 2008 9:49 pm ET

Go Huck! You did awesome!

Oh now Arnold is endorsing McCain – wow, not good in Cali right now, Arnold is NOT too popular in my state at the moment.

LG   January 30th, 2008 9:49 pm ET

Thanks again MSM for wasting the intelligent people's time.
Do you honestly think we don't know your dirty tricks. Put YOUR chosen two candidates next to each other so they have the most face time on camera.
Let's ask them the most questions and let them blabber ad nauseum.

And don't get me started on your after debate analysis.

PS.: Who got the most applause? Dr.Paul baby.

Walkingstick   January 30th, 2008 9:49 pm ET

As Lou Dobbs stated tonight Romney and Huckabee are the only two of both parties who will handle the immigration problem and the finance problem. I am personally apathetic to the McCain-Clinton same old – same old staus quoe; and the Obama "let me help heal your wounds as long as you vote for me" politics. I wish there was a real leader we could trust. "Hey, is there one out there?"

Krayon   January 30th, 2008 9:49 pm ET

Why do we have to hold Republicans & Democrats separate in debates until after primaries? I hate that.

maggieb   January 30th, 2008 9:49 pm ET

I thought Mccain looked Smug , and wore out, he constantly leaned on the table , Paul & Huckabee were the best , they At least answered the questions asked, and didn't keep on with the Time table or the war in there answer. Ha

Gigi   January 30th, 2008 9:49 pm ET

This was by far the worst debate yet. No real issues became the topic of interest. Just one candidate trying to attack the other one. It was like there were only two candidates left! Very unproffesional for both the two "front runners" and CNN.

~Vote Ron Paul~

redpillawake   January 30th, 2008 9:49 pm ET

Romney has worn out his "Flip-Flop" shoes. He doesn't even remember how he's voted on things in the past. He has openly supported gun bans.

David   January 30th, 2008 9:49 pm ET

Anderson Cooper still owes Ron Paul a chance to answer the question. He did not keep his promise. Not only that, he was totally unfair with regards to speaking time. Paul and Huckabee got the short end of the stick.

andre   January 30th, 2008 9:49 pm ET

Ron Paul lacks the Presidential stature, McCain smirked too much, Romney or Huckabee looks very impressive.

Diane   January 30th, 2008 9:49 pm ET

Current events, and problems that Americans face, yet we hear so much about a former President.

Mitt Romney would represent this country well and Ron Paul would be an excellent Vice President.

maxine   January 30th, 2008 9:49 pm ET

Ron Paul was the winner of this debate hands down! None of the others have a clue as to what is wrong with our economy nor how to make it better. They don't even understand (or care about ) the constitution. People better wake up!

Tim Barron   January 30th, 2008 9:48 pm ET

Any bets on whether they will replay ANY of Dr.Paul's answers??????

Patriot   January 30th, 2008 9:48 pm ET

I was eager to see this debate, especially when Mr. Cooper said there would be no rules. I anticipated an open and lively debate. How disappointed I was when Mr. Cooper, more than once, cut off delegates and refused to let Con. Paul and Gov. Huckabee respond to important issues. So much for a free forum debate and "no rules"! Gov. Huckabee looked and acted the most presidential. Unfortunately, his strong showing will split votes with Gov. Romney effectively giving Sen. McCain the nomination; that will be a sad day for the Republican party.

johny   January 30th, 2008 9:48 pm ET

I truly think that Mcain will be another bush, he practically talks like him, and he seems as if he were his twin or something. I think ron paul is the best here, but if i were republican i would vote for mitt romney because ron paul doens't stand a chance.

As for democrats, its going to be either hillary or obama who gets to be president, whoever is the democrat candidate, they will destroy the republican candidate.

quote   January 30th, 2008 9:48 pm ET

Laura January 30, 2008 9:43 pm ET

Ron Paul was the only one up there that acted like a man and not a 2 year old.

Duck   January 30th, 2008 9:48 pm ET

Don't know why they had Ron Paul or Huckabee at the debate? Never got to talk. No matter whos elected 4 yrs from now we'll still be in the same boat just a different Captain.

mac   January 30th, 2008 9:48 pm ET

It is quite unfortunate that the moderator as well as the two individuals asking questions could not spread the questions asked among all candidates. The moderator did a very poor job of monitoring time for question responses and not permitting all the candidates to provide answers.

All in all a very poor ran "debate" and the bias towards certain candidates is quite obvious. I would hope the Reagan Library is ashamed for allowing such a thing to take place in their facility.

Holly   January 30th, 2008 9:48 pm ET

What is this the McCain/Romney show? It would be nice to give everyone equal time or close to equal time. I am tired of hearing the same stuff from McCain and Romney. What about Paul and Huckabee? How nice of Anderson to cut off Paul when he lets McCain and Rmney argue for minutes on end. It's ridiculous.

Pat   January 30th, 2008 9:48 pm ET

Romney is the winner and gets my vote.

Mike   January 30th, 2008 9:48 pm ET

What a useless debate. I like Anderson Cooper on CNN, but I felt like he didn't ask enough follow up questions to both McCain and Romney. For example, on the immigration issue, Romney keeps saying that the so called 12 million illegals people go back to their home country voluntarily. Voluntarily, my butt. How many illegal immigrants have been issued deportation orders, and have not voluntarily left for their home country. Wake up, illegals making dollars in america are not going to back to mexico to earn pesos.

Nobody has a solution to that issue. Are they going to round up all 12 million illegals? First of all, the man power is no there and neither are the resources.
Again, no of these candidates have seriously addressed the issue. Romney keeps saying NO to amnesty, but he has not offered a solution.

Repubilicans are so pathetic. McCain keps saying the same old stuff. I haven't learned anything new from any of these candidates but Ron Paul. Sure he might seem a little weird but he tells the truth.

He knows how the economy works. America wake up. We are broke and can't pay our bills = the war in Iraq, national debt, social security.

Everyone is saying that we should stay in Iraq, but how are we going to pay for the war. We are in a recession (no one in the media or the feds want to admit it). Giving tax cuts is not going to help. Do the feds really think that getiing an extra $600 will help revive the economy? This is just ridiculous.

Wake up America. I hope none of these jokers become the next president.

Bob Dunlap   January 30th, 2008 9:48 pm ET

Romney won!

Tom Pugh   January 30th, 2008 9:48 pm ET

So Schwartzenegger(sic) is going to endorse McCain? In my opinion, people like this are crypto-democrats hoping that McCain will be the Republican candidate and thus, so much easier to beat. Remember, he is married to a part of the Kennedy family, Maria Shriver. Anyone who saw this debate and can still support McCain must be named Rudman, Gramm, Kemp or some other pre-historic name.

Dear Anderson Cooper   January 30th, 2008 9:48 pm ET

CNN: You can try to avoid Ron Paul's existence of you want, just as FOX tried to, but the people will speak and THEN you will have a REAL story to tell.

Rachel W.   January 30th, 2008 9:48 pm ET

Why does Anderson Cooper keeping cutting off Ron Paul? That is incredibly disrespectful. It doesn't really matter what you personally think of a candidate or how many votes they are likely to get; to blatantly disrespect someone like that when they are merely attempting to give the same length of answer everyone else is allowed is unprofessional and downright low.

Keller Davis   January 30th, 2008 9:48 pm ET

I'm extremely disappointed in tonight's debate. It was just disgust how McCain and Romney were apparently the only two candidates CNN cares about. Ron Paul was the only one who made any sense, especially when expressing his amusement in how McCain and Romney battled over the most pointless debate ever concerning Iraq.

RON PAUL 2008
Return to the Constitution, America…

Daphne   January 30th, 2008 9:47 pm ET

If I wanted to hear more from McCain or Romney I would change the channel to any of the major media channels and there it is. I don't care how many time the media tells me McCain will be the Republican nominee….(WHATEVER!!!) If he call us his "friends" one more time I'll puck! Let me spell it out for you since you seemed to have missed it. It's I-M-M-I-G-R-A-T-I-O-N!!!!! Okay, was that slow enough!!!! No "friend" of my family. GO HUCKABEE!!!!

dave nelson   January 30th, 2008 9:47 pm ET

huckabee for president
level head on all issues

Bob D.   January 30th, 2008 9:47 pm ET

DRAFT AL GORE NOW!!!!

Jenn   January 30th, 2008 9:47 pm ET

The debate would have been much better and the people better served if each candidate had been given equal time. If Ron Paul and Mike Huckabee are still in the race they have as much of a right to have their positions heard as the other two. I would have liked to have heard more from the other two. I was very frustrated just listeing to the other two say the same thing over and over… just bickering. Not helpful to voters.

DK   January 30th, 2008 9:47 pm ET

I think that regardless of who you came into this debate backing – Mitt R won the debate. Maybe it is time foe someone outside of teh rank and file of Washington to take the lead. And I am very disappointed of the way McCain behaved and address the issues and the spin and shots he took. I was undecided going in into this – however after this debate I am supporting Mitt R…..

JamesM76   January 30th, 2008 9:47 pm ET

For now on, let Cafferty do the debates. He is at least fair and won't let McRomney run the show.

John Elmer Engel   January 30th, 2008 9:47 pm ET

Paul answered the Sandra Day Oconnor question.
The others did not.

Paul answered the ronald reagan question the others did not.

Paul answereed Iraq question. The others did not.

Stephen   January 30th, 2008 9:47 pm ET

I'm so confused as to why CNN doesn't want people to hear from Ron Paul? You constantly cut him off and won't let him finish, and give the lion's share of time to two candidates, McCain and Romney, both of whose campaign can't raise enough money. If you're not going to give Ron Paul actual questions, STOP inviting him to these debates.

Larry   January 30th, 2008 9:47 pm ET

I wonder why CNN wouldn't let Lou Dobbs be the moderator? Think about it..

Tim McD   January 30th, 2008 9:47 pm ET

We need to keep him fighting for our country." – Ronald Reagan

dave nicholson   January 30th, 2008 9:47 pm ET

What debate, you made it the chosen two show. I
can see why CNN doesn't use the fair and balanced line like the other corporate owned network!! You helped me decide for Ron Paul

Joseph   January 30th, 2008 9:47 pm ET

Was this the Romney and McCain show? What great job moderating CNN. There were two others at this debate that should be heard. Anders0n C00per should never moderate again.

Ryan, NJ   January 30th, 2008 9:46 pm ET

Notice how McCain completely ignored the economy leadership question and just rehashed his military experience answer. How the heck is this guy going to lead the country? Every debate question he ever gets about the economy, he totally ignores it and then rambles on about something else.

I was undecided up until this point, but I am going to have to go with Ron Paul. I think he is the only shot we have to get a Republican in office, and at least he will be a conservative.

Mark   January 30th, 2008 9:46 pm ET

just 2 words: Ron Paul

Ken   January 30th, 2008 9:46 pm ET

I am watching the debate on a 30minute delay, but it already seems to me that Ron Paul is being purposely slighted once again. There is no fairness in this debate unless all candidates are allowed to fully answer each question in turn. It becomes far too obvious when you do not allow Dr. Paul to answer questions that you do not want the American people to hear what he has to say.

Anson Chi   January 30th, 2008 9:46 pm ET

It was one of the worst debates I have ever had the displeasure of viewing—nearly 2 hours of McRomney fighting like little children over a lollipop. The highlight was Huckabee calling out CNN on the unfair and inequitable treatment of him and Ron Paul. CNN = Censored News Network

Karen from WV   January 30th, 2008 9:46 pm ET

Fighting tremendous odds to get his message out and not be ignored entirely, Mike Huckabee still prevailed and I think actually won the debate today.

Jeff   January 30th, 2008 9:46 pm ET

I find CNN's silly questions such a disservice to proper debate.
People clearly want a debate on the issues but that is impossible when the questions just try to make controversy and acusation.

Shame on you. We deserve better!

Tom   January 30th, 2008 9:46 pm ET

I thought it was appalling how little time/questions you allowed Ron Paul. This is not hyperbole. I am not even a Paul supporter. I just think this was completely ridiculous – why have a debate if you don't let everybody actually speak?!?

Kramer   January 30th, 2008 9:46 pm ET

Anderson, Anderson, Anderson…normally I'm a fan but tonight you are losing my respect. Can you be any more disrespectful to Ron Paul? Or Mike Huckabee for that matter? I know McCain and Romney are leading…but as you conduct yourself tonight…check your own role in that. There are four candidates on the stage…and American is interested in hearing more about ALL of them. Why did you bother asking Huckabee and Paul to sit at the table if you were going to purposefully cut them off and not let them speak? No, then may not be the most popular, but they bring interesting ideas to these debates that ALL of the candidates could benefit from, as well as the rest of America.

Dave O.   January 30th, 2008 9:45 pm ET

I was totally offended by McCains comments. I have been a Republican all of my life but I am ashamed of being so after listening to McCain. I cannot believe the American people would allow this man to be the Republican nominee. The exchange of words between McCain and Romney was just stupid. The person who moved me was Huckabee. This man should be the nominee. He is the only one of the four who is not arrogant and conceited. If I had to choose between Romney and McCain it certainly would be Romney. IF McCain winds up being the nominee I will just not vote…period.

clytie   January 30th, 2008 9:45 pm ET

HUCKABEE WINS THIS DEBATE This candidate is authentic, articulate, and has a superior and global understanding of the key issues facing the nation and demonstrated again that he has the executive experience to lead our nation at a time when Washington is broken. Most of the candidates are ignoring the important issues we face, like immigration reform, long term improvement of the economy, and spending control of intitlement programs.

margaret   January 30th, 2008 9:45 pm ET

how sad that on the last debate we were unable to hear from Ron Paul and Mike Huckabee. As if the media has already decided who they have chosen. Romney and McCain are polished politicians who acted like 2 year olds. I'm so tired of hearing the same ol arguments and neither of them state their real views like Ron Paul and Mike Huckabee. It's as if CNN steered the debate to show how shallow Romney and McCain are (and that wasn't that hard to do) and didn't allow the best candidates to show how real they are. I think Ron Paul is well meaning, but is so combative that he would be divisive as President. Huckabee is a lot stronger than Romney or McCain because he knows what he believes and he doesn't depart from it. He's a man of principle. Something I haven't seen in politics in many years.

Danielle   January 30th, 2008 9:45 pm ET

It was downright rude to cut off Huckabee and Paul from responding. Why bother having a televised debate if you're not going to include all the candidates in equal discussion.

Michael Metti   January 30th, 2008 9:45 pm ET

Hurry up and finish the McCainRomney Show

maggieb   January 30th, 2008 9:45 pm ET

Steve I totally agree with you. Poor Mccan he was so stuck on a timetable and the war he couldn't answer a single question. Is that all he knows is War. ?

Knowone   January 30th, 2008 9:45 pm ET

Tony January 30, 2008 9:00 pm ET

What's up with the Ron Paul disrespect? I am NOT a Ron Paul supporter, however, I believe ALL the candidates should be given equal time and treated with respect.- well
@Well if you havent figured out by now take it from this "crazy" Paul supporter to tell you that you live in an dishonest country who constantley lies to its people over and over and over, if you do the research and read up about whats happining and for a moment stop letting money blind you with your ignorent greed then you will find out that the USA is being dismanteled and distroyed, After you connect all the dots in history then they will be calling you "crazy:.We cannot be free again with our political system, we need to stop supporting the Gov't (no Money) unanimously and awake the people that an enemy is in charge.

spencer   January 30th, 2008 9:45 pm ET

this program billed as a debate was a joke…..

ron paul for president

(i'm a democrat!)

Gerardo   January 30th, 2008 9:45 pm ET

OMG…are we seriously considering the Republicans…again. I swear, if another Republican gets into office I'm immigrating to Canada.

J Jones   January 30th, 2008 9:45 pm ET

Good old Arnie is married to a liberal Kennedy let him jump in bed with McCain ain't gonna do him any good.

BCOOL   January 30th, 2008 9:45 pm ET

If McCain an Romney are our future I think im going to move to another country.

Bill   January 30th, 2008 9:45 pm ET

Reagan actually supported one candidate.

Do some research and report the news…

thebevy   January 30th, 2008 9:45 pm ET

I was a Rudy girl. Upstate NY, now Florida.

Since he dropped, Romney makes sense!

Stock market and real estate values are wicked down. Maybe it's time we had a businessman run the white house.

Anderson Cooper, you are such a gift. Just as entertaining tonight as you were with New Year's Eve patter. Thank you for that~~b

Wes   January 30th, 2008 9:45 pm ET

What has happened to the people that wanted the US out of Iraq – the leading two republicans are pro-war? And McCain is also for amnesty??

Jeremy Whittaker   January 30th, 2008 9:45 pm ET

Who can truly win a debate against Hillary or Obama – Mitt Romney showed tonight that he can.

Timleibrand   January 30th, 2008 9:45 pm ET

I'm voting for the Paul/Huckabee ticket. They don't have the Media's endorsement it would seem – all the more reason to put your vote in one of their pockets.

bruce   January 30th, 2008 9:44 pm ET

You have got to be kidding…forget that the particpants in the "debate" did not equally share in the opportunity to answer questions. But the high school popularity contest between McCain and Romney over "who is cooler" was really pretty revolting…

Missourian   January 30th, 2008 9:44 pm ET

Wow! Our of an hour and a half debate, it seemed like a third of it was eaten up with useless bickering between McCain and Romney. BORING! You should have cut that and let the other two speak!

mike taheri   January 30th, 2008 9:44 pm ET

This was a very unfair debate and candidates were not given the same time or chance to respond to questions. I expected much more from CNN. It was like a FOX debate!!

candace   January 30th, 2008 9:44 pm ET

The splendor of the Reagan Republican Party will be demolished by the nomination of John McCain. How sad for so many of us who were Reagan youth…even we accept that the GOP must look to the future and to the next generation of voters.

Larry Anderson   January 30th, 2008 9:44 pm ET

Well after an hour plus of BS, Ron Paul has my vote. McCain is such a liar and hypocrit. He never votes for any of our veteran rights or searching for our missing POWs. He made it home and that is all he cares about…

Sean N   January 30th, 2008 9:44 pm ET

Ok, Romney came across as a total fraud in this debate. McCain represented the tried and true political line. Huckabee was totally lost, and Ron Paul was tried and true to his message. From that, it is no contest in the politician who I would trust.

sam   January 30th, 2008 9:44 pm ET

That was crap. I can't believe the censoring of the media. When the country goes to pot, we know who to blame… the Main Steam Media… ie FOX, CNN, NBC, ABC, CBS…. congrats… you got your goal and you were wrong.

Lorenz   January 30th, 2008 9:44 pm ET

Ok why did you not post my comments regarding Anderson Cooper standing on the necks of Americans for Liberty?

Go Ron Paul 2008!

Kevin Byers   January 30th, 2008 9:44 pm ET

McCain…. "Reagan Foot Soldier"……you've got to be KIDDING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

JP Huser   January 30th, 2008 9:44 pm ET

Ron Paul is the only clear Republican choice. But Obama is our only hope.

Brittney   January 30th, 2008 9:44 pm ET

All candidates should get equal time. CNN handled that debate very poorly. There should have been a time limit if they will only cut off Paul and Huckabee.

Trey   January 30th, 2008 9:44 pm ET

Cooper is stuck between a war between Romney and McCain. A Governer vs A Soldier. Right now we need a President who knows how to get the economy going. The generals will fight the war. You need the money to support them. Economy produces revenue. Let the soldier do his thing, on his own battle field while let the politicians do their thing.

Chase   January 30th, 2008 9:44 pm ET

This was not a debate. It was a joke.

They should have just called it the McNugget show!

Ken Kerckhoff   January 30th, 2008 9:44 pm ET

Ron Paul stole the show with one short commentary.
McCain is broke and finished. Huckabee is broke and ought to line up with Paul (V.P.?)
It should be Paul vs. Romney at the convention.

dropkix   January 30th, 2008 9:44 pm ET

CNN comments moderator is deleting comments from this list…my previous comment criticized CNN without foul language and has yet to be posted.

Kim from the Bronx.   January 30th, 2008 9:44 pm ET

Yes, Mike I actually agree with you, ANDERSON COOPER is a horrible moderator. I can't believe that they purposefully left Ron Paul out of the debate, knowing that he had some very good ideas and mentioned what the candidates such be talking about… The ECONOMY and not a war we should not be in.

Dan   January 30th, 2008 9:44 pm ET

Who cares who the front runner is or isn't…all candidates who are spending lots of money have the right to be heard…let common americans choose what to listen to…once again the media is deciding what we will think and talk about

Lawrence, Orange County, CA   January 30th, 2008 9:44 pm ET

As for Diane M.'s silly claim that Reagan's presidency was in any way "great," she needs a big ol' reality check. Reagan was a joke, a thief, a liar, and nothing short of a shill for special interests. The big old wet kiss that this debate gave him was pathetic.

As for the candidates, the only one of substance seems to be Ron Paul. He is fearless, and clearly unwilling to bow down to the media "gods" like McCain and Romney. All-in-all, a really lousy showing by all concerned.

RR   January 30th, 2008 9:44 pm ET

i agree w Lizbeth… McCain, Romney seem like same ol' stuff. I tuned into the debate and hoped they would be different tonight… I don't hear anything indicating "change". Huckabee, Paul are clearer, more focused on answers to the questions. Wouldn't a streamlined gov't provide clearer, direct responses?

JFH   January 30th, 2008 9:43 pm ET

Wow, I'm sick. When Barack Obama runs against John McCain, and wins (both are terrible choices), I hope you people will still be happy that you muzzled RON PAUL. To bad Al Gore was ripped off in 2000, maybe we wouldn't be this bad off. God Bless America, and may he have mercy on you all…

Gary   January 30th, 2008 9:43 pm ET

CNN is so far to the left democrat…… They push McCain because they know that either Hillary or Obama will DESTROY him in the elections.

Laura   January 30th, 2008 9:43 pm ET

Ron Paul was the only one up there that acted like a man and not a 2 year old.

Anna Johnson   January 30th, 2008 9:43 pm ET

CNN, I can't believe I'm about to say something positive about you, the Clinton News Network, but I'm glad you demonstrated to viewers that this is a 2-person race, despite what the Paul and Huckabee supporters would like to admit. Romney definitely came out on top.

Zach   January 30th, 2008 9:43 pm ET

Look at the picture you highlight at cnnpolitics.com – it tells you everything you need to know about this choice. Huckabee, Paul and Romney are all focused, looking at Anderson and the panelists as they ask questions, and McCain is looking down and out, as if he doesn't belong.

I have to think this debate was devastating for him, as he just doesn't appear presidential at all. He seems senile at best and not the person to lead this nation.

Romney was the clear winner tonight and should carry this momentum through next week.

Hugh Griffith   January 30th, 2008 9:43 pm ET

Thought that Anderson Cooper did a crappy job of allocating time among the candidates, Huckabee was on the money when He said that He was on the wrong end of the podium. Why did Cooper not monitor the conversations better? Huckabee's answers were more succinct than the arguing between McCain and Romney.

True Patriot   January 30th, 2008 9:43 pm ET

The only person that lost in this debate was the American people.

It was a scam. CNN is afarid of Ron Paul and the truth he speaks

Long live the Ron Paul Revolution

Nancy LaGrande   January 30th, 2008 9:43 pm ET

Compared to Romney's sterling credentials and his crackling intelligence, McCain slides by using evasive tactics. Compared to Romney's experience on the economy, McCain cites managers he might appoint. Compared to Romney's standing on his own, McCain relies on his endorsements. I ask you: Who is the better leader?

Janice Gammill   January 30th, 2008 9:43 pm ET

This debate was out of control! The terminator just endorsed johnny boy! Look out California!

OC   January 30th, 2008 9:43 pm ET

That's funny. Reagan DID support Ron Paul. The others had to make it up.

James A Brooks   January 30th, 2008 9:43 pm ET

This was the biggest joke of a debate ever. Anderson Cooper was disgraceful in the fact that he absolutly ignored two of the candidates and allowed John McCain run the debate. I believe that I will never watch another CNN debate unless Wolf Blitzer is the moderator.

Cheryl   January 30th, 2008 9:43 pm ET

I am so sick of people saying if you support the troops that means your really for the war. You are so wrong My husband served in the military for 22 years we are both against going into this war, but if was sent to Iraq I would deffinetly be pushing my Senators & congressman to support it.

Nick   January 30th, 2008 9:43 pm ET

Man, I'm glad the CNN sponsored fight between two school girls is finally over. I can't believe that I just sat through that. Sorry CNN, but that was a joke!

Jeff   January 30th, 2008 9:43 pm ET

Not for any of these guys – but McCain has some very good points on the environment. Let the states do what they want – they incubate the best of what we have if you leave them alone. I think he sincerely cares about the environment.

Huckabee – good grief I'm scard about what he will determine on social issues.
Again – the Republicans should leave all the social issues UP TO THE STATES.

If youre leaving the environment to the states – let the social issues reside at the state level as well.

intrernationalism is treason   January 30th, 2008 9:43 pm ET

I am tired of the mainstream establishment monopolising the scene.

I have had enough of the gay agenda being treated as if it were a real and important issue, it is not.

I have had enough of political correctness, it is B S !

I am sick of the federalreserve not being investigated and perhaps audited.

I am done with the internationalists meddling in the shadows with the mainstream press not only covering for them, but also branding anyone as looney, extreme , or a kook if we don't play along

I want english only in America

I want borders closed and benefits removed from illegals.

I want to buy gasoline at good prices. I don't care what the arabs are doing, I don;t care what the chinese are doing. Those peoples are not America's responsibility!

I am VERY OFFENDED AT HOW THINGS ARE AND HAVE BEEN BEING DONE.
I don't want CHANGE, i want RESULTS !

Ron Paul is the only realistic candidate, I think that is as clear as it can possibly be

sue   January 30th, 2008 9:43 pm ET

How can you people comment and not have the decency to spell President Reagan correctly.

Daniel   January 30th, 2008 9:43 pm ET

McCain, Romney… do we really need these two Bush clones? I'm sure our country feels we need a new president. Ron Paul might be our best candidate on the republican side. I feel Obama is the best democrat. Please LISTEN to what each candidate has to say and make your own decision. This is'nt your high school king and queen you are voting for (please CNN cut out all the "he said she said").. it is the next president of the United States. We need to become a great nation again.

morris eastham   January 30th, 2008 9:43 pm ET

I think you should have lou dobbs ask the questions. I was beginning to think that ronald regan was running. Whats the difference what he would think. The issues are now,not then. Was you trying to impress nancy? John McCain is a joke. He sounds like a broken record. As usual, you did not give the same time to ron paul or huckabee.. The questions were down right silly. Please, lets stick with the issues and not past presadents.

George Martin   January 30th, 2008 9:43 pm ET

Anderson:

Why did you only give 4/90 minutes to Ron Paul?

Once you cut him off, why did you break your promise to let him speak in two more minutes?

Do you really dare to answer these questions?

Casey   January 30th, 2008 9:42 pm ET

I think I'm going to have to move to some trailer in the woods, and Join some weird militia.

sturgis54   January 30th, 2008 9:42 pm ET

Hey everyone, have you heard…. McCain was a "foot soldier in the Reagan revolution." Wow! That's great, isn't it???

Rob   January 30th, 2008 9:42 pm ET

Mike Huckabee impressed the most of the four remaining candidates. He comes across as humble and sincere. I get the impression that he really cares about the country and isn't in this for his own personal interest.

mike f   January 30th, 2008 9:42 pm ET

CNN should bill the romney and mccain camps for the ad spots…i am sure both would GLADLY pay

J. Titor   January 30th, 2008 9:42 pm ET

I believe McCain will start World War Three.

Chris   January 30th, 2008 9:42 pm ET

Why was Anderson Cooper allowed to interrupt Ron Paul in the BEGINNING of him answering a question?

That is unprofessional and inappropriate. How can you tell all the candidates they can speak for as long as they want and then continually interrupt Ron Paul preventing him from finishing his answers?

No gun is put to your head Mr. Cooper. Grow a pair and stop being such a tool.

Paras   January 30th, 2008 9:42 pm ET

Next time LARRY KING should host instead of ANDRESON COOPER.

Joan   January 30th, 2008 9:42 pm ET

Wasn't the debate supposed to be between all four candidates? It sounded like a debate (na argument) was between McCain and Romney. I really felt that the debate should have been between ALL the candidates. Ron Paul was not afraid to speak his mind. I liked what he said it is too bad that he wasn't given the opportunity to speak more.

Alex Bernier   January 30th, 2008 9:42 pm ET

I think Mit Romney and John McCain argued about pointless things and Ron Paul was the only candidate talking about important issues, providing solutions and accurate facts

Connie   January 30th, 2008 9:42 pm ET

Why was President Reagan one of the best?

Brendo   January 30th, 2008 9:42 pm ET

Your debate sucked……

You were impolite to both Mr. Paul and Mr. Huckabee. You turned it into a two man discussion.

Also, McCain is a liar……and I wanted to smack that smirk of his face

Jerry   January 30th, 2008 9:42 pm ET

Diane M, I don't know if you are right or wrong. Remember he was the one who destroyed union significance in America when he fired the air traffic controllers. But he did do other positive things….

Kelly   January 30th, 2008 9:42 pm ET

Will the Huckabee and Paul camps complain about the way this debate was run? They should!!! Utterly disgusting…wake up and understand what fairness means. That is all I have to say.

Aaron   January 30th, 2008 9:42 pm ET

Why was Ron Paul even invited? He was the only one not laughing and all business up there. Or Huckabee for that matter? I don't think my views match up with Mike, but you'd hope to get some kind of fairness from a debate put on by the media. I must be dreaming.

Mindy Harrison   January 30th, 2008 9:42 pm ET

I was disappointed in the debate. I feel all candidates should get equal opportunity to speak.

Craig Orrell   January 30th, 2008 9:42 pm ET

Repub debate winners-Huck and Paul!!!!!

McCrapie McCrap Face and Flip Floppin Mitt-Losers!!!!!

Gail   January 30th, 2008 9:42 pm ET

I thought there were four Republican candidates, not two. I was disappointed to see that Ron Paul and Huckabee were not given as much time to speak as Romney and McCain. Ron Paul is the only one speaking out about the situation with the American dollar, the gold standard and the Federal Reserve. Ron Paul said "Let the People be Free". Those are great words. Words the other candidates should learn the meaning of.

Vicki   January 30th, 2008 9:42 pm ET

I don't see why you invited all 4 candidates when only the top 2 were getting the questions.

Jack McKone   January 30th, 2008 9:42 pm ET

Diane M. I believe Regan was a good President. But as a statment of fact what Susan said was true.

Chris   January 30th, 2008 9:42 pm ET

McCain and Romney were given WAY too much time vs. Paul and Huckabee. It's as i CNN wants to pre-determine the outcome of the primary election by not allowing Paul and Huckabee the fair amount of time to speak.

G2D2   January 30th, 2008 9:42 pm ET

Ron Paul was OBVIOUSLY marginalized and the "debate" turned into the Romney and McCain Show. CNN, hang your head in shame.

Chad   January 30th, 2008 9:42 pm ET

If anyone is interested. Ron Paul needs $5 million by Febuary 5th. Get over to his site and donate. Anything will help!

Jeremy   January 30th, 2008 9:42 pm ET

Worst debate ever why did i waste my life watching this stupidity. CNN's rep goes down everyday!

RANDY PINES   January 30th, 2008 9:42 pm ET

ANDERSON, YOU LOST ME!!!! LET RON PAUL AND GOV. HUCKABEE SPEAK!!!!!

Leo - Texas   January 30th, 2008 9:42 pm ET

Romney….. Creepy unsincere, Looks as if he wants to be President to bad. Why is that Mitt…Oh an by the way I thought Mormons were against War. Thats wy they send there kids on Mormon Missions.. To avoid conflict……You are not even true to your true Mormon Beliefs…You look like a kid who grew up with a silver spoon in your mouth. Rich never had to do much,.Amazing what Money can buy……..

McCain….. Tired looking, old ideas…100 Years in Iraq i tell you what .You seem to be no different that the current adminastration. OUT OF TOUCH…is what you are.

Paul…. You have great ideas. But for some strange reason people think you are
weak…. YOU ARE MORE REPUBLICAN THAN McCain or Romney. I Like your
ideas…Good Luck………. And i'm a Democrat………

Huckabee is the most sensable of the whole Republican field.. out there. Of the 4 of you. You my Friend are more presidental Than Romney or McCain
and i am a Proud Democrat. Don't quit the race.. If you did become president i
would'nt be angry at all. Good Luck. YOU SEEM TO BE IN TOUCH WITH AMERICA..

Will Janney   January 30th, 2008 9:42 pm ET

I hope CNN release a public apology for this ridiculous stunt before Super Tuesday. I can't believe they only let Ron speak for 5 mins and Huckabee for around 10.

If they don't I will never watch CNN again.

J R   January 30th, 2008 9:42 pm ET

Huckabee took the high ground tonight. Well done!

Guy Pinestra   January 30th, 2008 9:41 pm ET

To Anthony @ 9:34

'Getting over' the Ron Paul stuff isn't an option to those of us who understand his message. It's not OUR fault that the vast majority of the country doesn't get it yet.

The fact remains that a return to the Constitutional principles of sound monetary policy and humble foreign policy is the root cure to the myriad of problems that face this once-great nation.

Think about it…

John Walker   January 30th, 2008 9:41 pm ET

Huckaby and Paul take the awards for patience, focus, and wisdom in tonight's debate. Both McCain and Romney didn't seem to have any grasp of the moment at all.

The moderator should have been more equitable in allowing time for worthy ideas to surface and be discussed.

Santiago Chile

Anthony   January 30th, 2008 9:41 pm ET

Unfortunately, the majority of the voters do not spend there time on the internet blogging and Ron Paul speaks to younger people who are more likely to blohg thats why this discussion is favorable to Ron Paul and the polls arent

Heidijo   January 30th, 2008 9:41 pm ET

That again for all lot of it was a complete INSULT to the American people by main stream media. Our economy is going to COLLAPSE and we are stuck watching two candidates fight over stupid words. I wish we could have an entire debate about how every dime we pay the IRS goes towards interest on debt we owe, nothing else and the travesty that we have a private bank issuing our currency. Our dollar has lost sixty percent of it's value over a short period of time. SHAME ON YOU main stream media. All you give the American people anymore is your cheap corporate minded propaganda.

Jeanette   January 30th, 2008 9:41 pm ET

Gov Romney looked and talked just like a mini -me -Bush……smug and arrogant. I have the utmost respect for Sen McCain, for his intelligence and knowlegde in all ways important to Americans. Take the silver spoon out of your mouths for a nano second and listen to what the two contenders are truly saying.

I am a democrat, but hope Republicans will do the right thing. Just in case.

Diane M   January 30th, 2008 9:41 pm ET

Unions need to be broken!

CatTN   January 30th, 2008 9:41 pm ET

It seems the press has already made up their minds.. I wish CNN would allow all candidates equal time to speak so the rest of us can decide too!!

Paul   January 30th, 2008 9:41 pm ET

Well the Inteligencia lives on. Succcesfuly quelling the voice of reason
Ron Paul has it right the Private Federal Reserve runs our countries Finances .

j haigh   January 30th, 2008 9:40 pm ET

After listening to the debate and then hearing that the California governor will be endorsing McCain leads me to believe that most of the audience must have been sleeping. McCain and Romney are ignorant. Huckabee and Paul should be getting the endorsements. Additionally, my wife says she would like to smack the smirk off Mccain's face when other candidates were speaking.

gershon   January 30th, 2008 9:40 pm ET

Face it people, Ronald Reagan never recovered from the anesthesia he had for his gunshot wound. His alsheimers started while he was still in office. Nancy and his handlers propped him up and gave him scripts to read. And this is the great Republican icon?

Steve Nielsen   January 30th, 2008 9:40 pm ET

I can see it now. Populist Ron Paul and Mike Huckabee. A marriage of libertarian and christian fundamentals. Two men who both want to remove the irs from american life and enable the people to take more control of their own lives.

Sarina   January 30th, 2008 9:40 pm ET

Pitiful. Worse debate ever. Completely unfair.

c.n   January 30th, 2008 9:40 pm ET

as fro the last question, who would Ron Reagan endorse, Huckabee did a grand job on the answer and Paul nailed it on the head. two things 1st, Reagan Shot a robber from his apt window to save an older lady from being robbed. the right to bare arms. He did love this country and its base principals. 2nd the gold standard is a great issue. I hope everyone is aware the China and India are buying up all the gold and oil they can get there hands on tho increase their reserves. Something Paul is aware of.

michael flowers   January 30th, 2008 9:40 pm ET

I can't believe McCain's answer to the question about why he's qualified to lead the economy. He basically said it was because he was a military leader.

kris   January 30th, 2008 9:40 pm ET

with all due respect, while I agree that the infrastructure is in need of attention and funding, fixing roads and bridges will not boost the falling stock market, will not save the housing market, will not help cap inflation & certainly will not put food on the table.

TX Conservative   January 30th, 2008 9:40 pm ET

Schwarzenegger backing McCain….Arnie is HARDLY a conservative, so his backing of McCain is indicative of their being cut from the same cloth and should be a red flag to all conservative Republicans out there.

Patrick Esters   January 30th, 2008 9:40 pm ET

Wow!
Im a dem, but was blown away by Huckabee and Paul. They should be the front runners for you guys!! Great consise answers, sound policy ideas. Good stuff. McCain and Rommney blew it , fighting, and jousting at each other. Rommney knows nothing about the military and McCain konws nothing about handling finances (economy).

Patrick- Iowa

Alison   January 30th, 2008 9:39 pm ET

Okay, I can understand somewhat how Romney has a little bit of the untrustworthy feel about him, but please explain to me how McCain is trustworthy? I don't get it. He's claiming to be a staunch conservative while his record states differently. And, I know the "straight talk" is not a new idea for this campaign in '08 either, but if someone had to tell you he's giving you "straight talk" it almost makes you question how truthful he's been.

garry   January 30th, 2008 9:39 pm ET

Ron Paul has good ideas but is waisting everyones time.Sorry but That is the Truth

Luis   January 30th, 2008 9:39 pm ET

That was horrible. You got your little fight between Romney and Mc Cain but did nothing to inform the public with your lopsided allotment of time.

JamesLloyd   January 30th, 2008 9:39 pm ET

A talking head, polled position
An overzealous condescending military man
A doctor that is insulted more than reported
A self righteous proselytizer

At least I got Romney to YELL "I don't support torture" to a quiet room in Iowa
and shook a great man's in Ames over a hot dog. Thanks Doc

Scott   January 30th, 2008 9:39 pm ET

I like Ron Paul, I think he is a good person. I do however feel that his ideas would take us back to the early eighteen hundreds, and I think it is rather difficult to live in the world he would like to create for us. The cat is out of the bag so to speak, and he would like to catch it and put it back in, but in reality it is unrealistic and too late. Ron Paul would have a very difficult time as president, he would try and make changes only to be dismayed at just how impossible his visions are at this time. I do however believe that if we had an economic meltdown he might actually be able to change things back to what they should be like.
I don't like Huckabee, anyone who thinks we should change the constitution to include religion is an enemy of what the constitution was designed for.
Romney seems to be a good politician and I would vote for him over Hillary any day, but I think he flops on subjects alot, and I really don't know what he truly stands for.
Mc Cain is the best person for the job in my view. I truly think he has America's best interests at heart and has proven his abliity to work with varies viewpoints in acheiving goals for the American people.

freedom   January 30th, 2008 9:39 pm ET

this debate is very unfair. I hate where our country is going, the media and 2 political parties control and rule our country. there's a youtube video where former prime minister Benazir Bhutto said that bin laden had been killed. however it was edited out by the bbc and the us media never even mentioned it. our country is been taken from us bit by bit as we vote for "THEIR" next puppet president

Gerald Vencius   January 30th, 2008 9:39 pm ET

If McCain speaks to his principles and sticks with them, why doesn't he stick with his amnesty bill? He knows that he was wrong on it and is backpedalling and trying to say he is not for amnesty anymore, jsut to secure the fence and once that is done he will follow up with the amnesty he voted for before.
He changes what he is in favor for when he sees the polls are against him.

P Campbell   January 30th, 2008 9:39 pm ET

McWar is Bush on steroids. No thanks, not interested in any more of that. The idea that Romney is a Washington outsider is ridiculous, seeing as how he's been around politics all his life, through his father. He's also guaranteed to continue the gaming of the tax system.

I'll be voting for Ron Paul.

Pam   January 30th, 2008 9:39 pm ET

Huckaby was the best…too bad he can't win.

Allen   January 30th, 2008 9:39 pm ET

I wonder if they would break the unions and invade a tiny island like Granada….just like Ronny.

Earl E   January 30th, 2008 9:39 pm ET

Thanks for the debate, needed more Huck n'Paul, much less McCain.

Shanna   January 30th, 2008 9:39 pm ET

Could it be that it takes a liberal to know a liberal??

Ron Paul attacks debate. Ron Paul hits debate for 1,000,000 points. Debate was defeated by Ron Paul. Ron Paul levels to 100. Ron Paul earns 200 exp and gains new attack: Presidency.

Ryan Ruppert   January 30th, 2008 9:38 pm ET

Shame CNN, that was horrible moderation. There were 4 candidates on stage, not just 2 bickering wanabee Reganites.

KEITH   January 30th, 2008 9:38 pm ET

McCain is an idiot!

Paul has some good ideas.

Huckabee could be an ok VP.

g   January 30th, 2008 9:38 pm ET

HUCKABE!!!!!

Rodney   January 30th, 2008 9:38 pm ET

Ron Paul was head and shoulders above the child like meaningless he-said she-said stuff that Romney and McCain did. I'm also very proud of Mike Huckabee for speaking up against the media block thats going on. America is in bad shape and CNN and Fox are two of the main reasons why.

Ken   January 30th, 2008 9:38 pm ET

CNN has proven tonight that it not the Press but has turned into a Special Interest Group representing only itself.
and Mr.Romney's stupid smile when others are talking is not helping him one bit.

Stephanie Grilliot   January 30th, 2008 9:38 pm ET

I would like to see ALL the candidates get a chance to answer equally. I would like to hear more from Ron Paul, he seems to be getting cut off the FEW times questions have been directed his way!!

norm   January 30th, 2008 9:38 pm ET

cnn not fair to all, only Romney and McCain. Shame on CNN!!! I really don't care I am a democrat, but I do not like to see anyone treated unfair.

Christi   January 30th, 2008 9:38 pm ET

McCain is so caught up with Iraq and his military service, he can't let it go for 2 seconds to give any other answer about his policies. Why don't you let all four candidates speak to what they are about and how they will help our country? Be a good moderator, Anderson, and stop the petty bickering and childishness that seems to be the mainstream politics these past few weeks. Americans want a leader. I certainly want to know why I should vote for a candidate. I don't care about why they think the others are bad. We need change in our country, and right now Huckabee seems to be the only one with actual ideas and policies. Let everyone share their ideas and policies so we can make an informed decision. Debates aren't about good tv (i.e. pettiness), but they should be about the candidates and their qualifications for leading our great country.

Robert   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

The Republican Party better take Dr Paul Seriously because I can guarantee he will run as a 3rd party candidate and take the party down.

connie ordonez   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

I think Ron paul was not treated fairly in the denate with Rommy and Mccain, by Anderson Copper when asking questions of his own. He always seemed to cut Ron Paul short on his answers. This was not a fair debate by the media CNN, Huklebee and R.Paul sould have might as well not been there.

Monty   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

McCain is CFR. That's why they are pushing him. No one sneezes in high government without permission from the CFR.

Rev. Helen M. Moore   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

Actually my typical voting choice is Democratic, but it is my responsibility to listen to all perspectives. The media focused on Clinton and Obama, so Biden, Edwards, etc. dropped out. This current Republican debate has focused largely on Romney and McCain; now what? Is this the most "democratic" approach to informing American citizens? What happened to equal time?

Kraig Vardaman   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

I love Huck…he's got more balls than about anybody I've heard. Directly confronting Coop like that was awesome! Coop, ya gotta keep it fair, buddy!

Turtlejlw   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

Mitt Romney is an honest person. John McCain can attack him all he wants to. Romney will never bend for what he believes is right and true. McCain only says what he knows people want to hear. Will he really do all that he says he will do? I don't think so. Will Mitt Romney. Of course!!

Plus, if men would act like men and not babies maybe this country wouldn't have so many problems.

Darin   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

Huckabee! Huckabee! Genuine. A man of REAL convictions. The news media and talkshow hosts may have counted him out, but don't under estimate the American people.

Nick   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

It's not too late in the game, Vote Ron Paul or Huckabee on Super Tuesday.

What a joke!   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

I am extremely disappointed in your coverage. You didn't let Ron Paul talk and I wanted to hear him and I also voted for him. He is the only one who could and would turn this country around. He is the only one who says what he will do for OUR country. The rest are a bunch of war mongers. How much did you get paid off by McCain and Romney to only ask them questions I wonder?????

juli   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

Such an unfair bias tonight. Shame on you. We need to hear from all candidates, not the ones the media chooses for us.
Shame on you CNN.

Stefan Gaithersburg, MD   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

This debate was a disgrace. Ron Paul and Mike Huckabee were completely ignored.

Kellie   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

Lame ! This was not a fair debate to Mike and Ron .

Not equal at all

voter55   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

Solid performance by Ron Paul.

michael flowers   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

Mary, all the candidates believe in publically subsidized education for illegals up to grade 12. Is it really so abhorrent to you for Huckabee to have proposed that children of illegals who did well in school and applied for citizenship should be able to qualify for college scholarships?

CNNandtheCFRsuck!   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

What a horrible debate! No equal time. Obvious bias toward McCain and Romney. CNN sucks!

steve   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

Wow! the least of all won this thing. Way to Go Ron and Mike. What an amazing way to end Mike! Thank you for taking the high road again.

patrick   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

Reagan supported Ron Paul, the best Republican candidate

BCOOL   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

The real losers of this debate were the people who had to listen to Romney and McCain argue for most of the debate.

Joy   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

I agree, very poor moderating….I'm not a Ron Paul person, but if he is allowed to be there, then he should be given the opportunity to speak his view….and likewise, Huckabee, although I do like Huckabee, this was really pathetic that Huckabee and Paul were not treated equally…..Why the CNN love for McCain? Very poor job, CNN, sorry about that, but this wasn't a fair debate. Romney and Huckabee would be the only chance to beat the Democrats. McCain couldn't beat a Democrat under any circumstance.

Clif Henrichsen   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

Ron Paul by a landslide.

Phyllis   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

Iam disappointed in your lack of respect and time given to Mike Huckabee and Ron Paul . Some debate ! You should just call it an interview with McCain and Romney.

Eric   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

Is anyone actually Moderating these comments? My 9:05 comment is STILL awaiting moderation!

Barry   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

CNN Moderator:

In conclusion: Obviously the moderator of this chart line is a far-left liberal, typical of CNN .

Any conservative now knows that we "need not apply" since we make sense rather than preach socialism.

I presume that CNN is being paid as a communication arm of the Democrat Party.

Matt from Philly   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

If you want information about Ron Paul and:

Eliminating the income tax,
abolishing the IRS,
eliminating taxes on tips,
eliminating the Department of Education and restoring the rights of teachers, parents and municipalities in deciding the course to take in their childrens' education,
$3k tax credits for parents to create school choice,
and other information that CNN failed to give you the opportunity to hear……go to RONPAUL2008.COM

moon   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

Very disappointed in this debate. My candidate did not have fair air time–my voice ignored. A sad thing that there is contolled media. What is this country heading for?? I fear for my children's future.

Jessica Weaver   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

HUH?!??!?!?!

January 30, 2008 8:17 pm ET

I believe that Romney is far more intellectual than McCain. Sure the Arizona Senator is a war hero but aren't they all. Just because your a POW, does that make you a hero, maybe it does.

I am sorry maybe I missed the MENSA convention?!?!?!??! UMMMM do your research ROMNEY NEVER SERVED THE COUNTRY ONLY PROFITED OF IT<<

ANYONE THAT SURVIVED A POW CMAP FOR 5 YEARS IS A HERO——MAYBE YOU SHOULD GO TO IRAQ AND TRY IT!

Jill   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

McCain is freaky…. Look at how smug McCain looks every time he thinks he makes a good answer and how freaky he gets when he is angry. He reminds me of Bush… I'm for Romney (and I'm a moderate Democrat usually!)

Zacceus   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

OMFG… Arnold endorses McCain?!?!

Where are we going, and why are we in a handbasket?

Brandon   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

McCain and rich boy Romney need to wipe those smug looks off their faces. I'm never going to vote for a rude, cheap-shot taking, flip-flopping jerk. I want my president to be an intelligent and polite person. Ron Paul is the most intelligent man on that stage and he stands by what he says. I don't have to worry about him changing his story or verbally attacking another candidate like a hormonal teenager.

JP Huser   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

I am sick of hearing John McCain talk about 'radical Islamic extremism.' Everyone else is talking about change and McCain is talking the same old Republican politics of fear.

Tammy   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

What an incredible sham of a debate!

CNN and Fox are birds of a feather. I am finished with both.

Diane   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

I understand the need for interaction in debates, but what I would really like to see is the same question posed to every candidate (in isolation) and hear their answers to the questions instead of their slick slaps in the face at each other.

Matt   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

If any American took the time to read up on Ron Paul, his views, and his voting record, they would vote for him. And if they wouldn't vote for him, then hey, I guess they don't like silly things like liberty and the constitution.

Diane M   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

Susan, you are WAY WRONG, Regan was the one of the best presidents in history. This is a fact not an opinion!

Stolworthy   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

I do also agree with david. Huckabee needs to drop out, throw his support to romney and help him campaign. Romney has the resources to get Huckabee where he needs to camaign for Romney. Also, Romney seems to have been avoiding endorsements. Romney, its time to get connections. McCain is killing you with his many edorsements. Who says your endorsements have to be from washingtion? Get endorsements from each individual state or something. Romney, McCain has the press on his side, and for some reason, the press seems to hate you, especially Fox. So, reach out beyond the press, go to people who are important in politics, not in hollyood.

Kelle   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

YOU GUYS SUCK!

Angela   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

This was truly a content rich debate, a debate about ideas. That is, with the exclusion of John Mccain's participation.

Wesley   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

I think Ron Paul was the highlight of this debate.

David Blake   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

Ron Paul has won again and he didnt even speak.Watch the polls.CNN Shame on you.

JamesP   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

Bravo to Huckabee!! His answer on the "Reagan" question was right on target.

nh voter   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

what a sham.

They minimalized Ron Paul in Iowa, NH, Michigan, Nevada, stole his win in Louisiana, ignored him him Florida, now they ignore him, again in a debate.

I hope Fred, Rudy, and soon to be Huckabee enjoy their questions when Ron Paul is on the ballot in November.

Wake up America, wasteful spending and foolish policy is ruining America before your eyes.

Sean   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

The mainstream media is morally a traitor to the ideal of a free press. But what can we expect when all of their 'journalists' make a living by getting government officials to give them juicy bits of information. AC's handling of this debate is a twisted farce. He allows McCain and Romney to babble on while our country is falling apart, while our president is turning himself into the emperor, and while we are killing people right and left overseas in the name of freedom. AC needs to go back to college and aquire some virtue…perhaps his internship with the CIA knocked all of it out of him.

Rohit   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

I am going to donate some money to Ron Paul…simply so that he can get his voice out since media simply wont allow it.

RR   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

RR, yea you're right…You know, since Democrats want to cut government spending and lower taxes. Yea, I'm sure Ron Paul would vote Democrat. Where do some of you people get your ideas from??

Mark   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

Another CNN fiasco! You call this a debate? Why have 4 people on stage, when you're just asking questions of only 2???

Clark Guelde   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

Unless Hillary is the oponent I wont vote for anybody but Ron Paul!!!!!

Geoff   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

That had to be the worst moderated debate. CN.N should be embarrased on how they managed it.

Erin   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

Dr. Ron Paul is the man!!! He is our only hope! Vote Dr. Paul!

Will   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

Mike Huckabee sounds fake whenever he talks.
Romney and McCain are more of the same.
Paul needed to talk more.
Really balanced, CNN

twink   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

Ok, 1 1/2 hrs later. All I remember is mccain/romney talking about staying in iraq for 100 yrs. this didn't seem like much of a debate.

Very, Very, Said.

jla   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

Was this supposed to be a debate between the four candidates? Why don't you let them all speak?

Gary Lacroix   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

Boy Huckabee's final statement actually made me proud to be an American –
You go Girl!!!!

Justin M.   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

I got so tired of watching Romney and McCain smirking everytime Ron Paul spoke. Shame on CNN for not giving equal time to each candidate. I now understand what Ron Paul's supporters have been complaining about.

Bill   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

Why aren't you giving fair balance of time

jm   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

Wait Terra…

Ron Paul did come in Second in Nevada with 15%, McCain at 14%…

It was Romney that won 51% of the vote..

Chris   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

HOW CAN ANDERSON SAY THAT MCCAIN HAD A FULL HEAD OF STEAM? The man didn't SAY anything!!! He danced around nearly every question thrown at him or attacked Romney… either way, McCain's a freakin' joke.

Josh   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

I think that the debate hurt both McCain and Romney by showing how rude and combative they have been towards each other.

Larry   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

Huckabee had the best answer on the Reagan endorsement

Dave P   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

I like Paul, Huckabee and Romney. Huckabee is a little too populist for me as far as economics go and Ron Paul, let's face it, won't win the nomination. McCain had proved to be a liar…not the maverick straight-talker he used to be back in 2000. He has liberal economics and liberal stances on freedom of speech and immigration. I USED to like this guy but, I can't take it anymore. I just hope that none of these Super Tuesday states follow only previous state polls because on the issues, Romney is by far the better of the two. Tonight confirmed my vote…Romney in '08.

Anthony   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

I would like to thank the person who sits around censoring these comments, for you are truly a sellout-ZERO, and you know it.

Bob D   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

Your bias for McCain and Romney failed. The looked like arguing children.

Krayon   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

Ron Regan, best answer…..Ron Paul

lol…..I'm sorry….it's just true. You may get tired of hearing all the Ron Paul suppoorters, but he speaks to us like adults….what's NOT to love about that?

Frank   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

I would just like to congratulate you for this biased debate and remarkable disrespect for democracy. Great job all in all, our respect for the medias can go up a notch ;)

Jake   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

ROMNEY's got my VOTE, McCain distorts quotes and will do nething to get in, as a californian im voting for romney andyou should too

michael   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

when they let ron paul awnser he won the debate

Justin V   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

I believe a network that knows what "fair" is should host the next debate, where
everyone gets equal time

John   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

Romney is absolutely the best and only true candidate that can help return America to its prominence in the world.

Rocky2   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

Good Lord! McCain comes off as a fool, and Romney is far too slick and has no sense of international political realities. Huckabee, if elected, will undermine the freedom of religion in this country, the "Rev. Mr. President"? No way! Paul is elequent, but also seems to ignore the basic realities of defense and international realities. Where do we go?!?!?!?

Mike   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

Was that a reublican debate or a McCain vs. Romney match?

Sandy Barnes   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

I live in Arizona. John McCain is not that well liked by the people of Arizona, the Politicians maybe, not the people. Whose who have educated themselves know why McCain stayed as a "POW" for 5 years. He could have been released after two years, but chose to stay. to secure his POLITICAL FUTURE. Veterans against McCain know this for a fact.

Hillbilly   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

How many times will CNN focus on Romney and McCain and ignore Huckabee and Paul.

Arika   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

This is so much fun to watch Romney and McCain duke it out. Oh wait, are those other two figures John and Mitt's shadows or are they 2 other presidential candidates??? CNN, please!!! Why can't you give equal time to them all, especially Ron Paul!

Walter   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

How sheepishly will Anderson approach the next debate when Paul wins big on Super Tuesday and he must face Paul again in another debate! HA! Can't wait!

Ryan   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

DEAR BETH: were you sent here by the corporate minions?

CHECK YES!

Rebekah (GO HUCKABEE)   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

Even with limited time Huckabee did great and he will have my vote until the end! He's gonna make it I know it! He'll beat all the odds and amaze everyone!

iloveliberty   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

CNN simply tried to humiliate Gov. Huchabee and Congressman Ron Paul. This is unfair, unbalanced.

Deborah   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

Well, that was the most pathetic thing I've ever witnessed. I don't know why I expected impartiality. I really need to throw up from that Mitt Romney Grecian Formula smirk!!

Steven Brady   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

Pathetic.

courtney   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

If McCain says, "the foot soldier of the Regan Revolution" again, I may be sick.

Hope   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

Can our comment be posted ? You are doing the same to us that you are doing to RON PAUL ! VOTE RON PAUL!

cooper   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

Thanks for another find job of not allowing equal air time. Jerry Springer Show.

Ron   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

obvious winner again was ROMNEY!!

Evan   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

I think Mitt Romney won the debate

Ron   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

CN should be ashamed of themselves for the way they handled this extremely biased debate. I plan to email Anderson Cooper right now. Disgusting.

Linda   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

It shoudl be VERY clear that Romney is not a Bush… you just have to look at his success in business… not the same for Bush. Comparing those two is not comparing apples to apples. I think Bush went in with high ideals and I supported him totally and have been so let down by all the crap and that he basically let Cheney and Rumsfeld run him into the ground. VERY SAD!

apPAULed   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

stunned.

I can't believe what I just saw.
Who will cover Ron Paul?

Todd   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

RON PAUL RON PAUL RON PAUL RON PAUL RON PAUL RON PAUL RON PAUL RON PAUL RON PAUL RON PAUL RON PAUL RON PAUL RON PAUL RON PAUL RON PAUL RON PAUL RON PAUL RON PAUL RON PAUL RON PAUL RON PAUL RON PAUL RON PAUL RON PAUL RON PAUL RON PAUL RON PAUL RON PAUL RON PAUL RON PAUL RON PAUL RON PAUL RON PAUL RON PAUL RON PAUL RON PAUL RON PAUL RON PAUL RON PAUL RON PAUL RON PAUL RON PAUL RON PAUL RON PAUL RON PAUL RON PAUL RON PAUL RON PAUL RON PAUL RON PAUL RON PAUL RON PAUL RON PAUL RON PAUL RON PAUL RON PAUL RON PAUL RON PAUL RON PAUL RON PAUL

notadebate   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

WOW CNN. How much did McCain and Romney pay for that?

Vanessa Flor   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

RON PAUL

Gene   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

If we have any hope left to save this great country, all you super Tuesday states better vote Ron Paul or we will be deeper in trouble. Come on people get out and make a difference. Don't be tricked by the media. Vote from your hearts.

Daunish   January 30th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

I find it very disturbing as an independent voter that candidates are not given equal time. What is this Romney and McCain hour. It's a bunch of B.S. I used to respect Anderson Cooper, but cutting Ron Paul off when he is answering a question seems like CNN has sold out. I am angry and outraged, because now "The most trusted name in news" is no more than a Fox News Network. Worthless bias by the hosts, who feed the public what we are supposed to think. Since when as voters do we not get to hear all of what candidates say. After tonight, CNN has shown us that they are "The most useless and fraudulent name in news". I don't like any of the Republicans that are getting airtime, so now they have lost my vote and I will now vote for Ron Paul. My only hope for CNN, is that Lou Dobbs will stay true to delivering valuable news and information.

Donald   January 30th, 2008 9:36 pm ET

Ron Paul answered the questions most directly. Huckabee was honest in his answers. Romney and McCain are smirking goofballs

Lena B.   January 30th, 2008 9:36 pm ET

Most of my comments didn't make it on or were deleted. And I wasn't even swearing. Again, so much for this false freedom

Tyler   January 30th, 2008 9:36 pm ET

List from most dishonest to most honest: McCain, Romney, Huckabee, Paul. It appears the more dishonest you are, the more likely you are to get the Republican nomination.

CNN Hater   January 30th, 2008 9:36 pm ET

Ron Paul and Huckabee need to WALK OFF THE STAGE, they are both wasting their time listening to these blowhard fakes talk and talk and talk and give non-answers to Coopers softball questions with ZERO substance.

J Jones   January 30th, 2008 9:36 pm ET

I sure am glad the CNN supports John McCain to run against the liberal Democrat show is over!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

jgalt   January 30th, 2008 9:36 pm ET

Do you feel free?

If you are not capable of viewing this debate in an objective fashion, and cannot see that you are being spoon-fed your future president……

Simply put, you are very deserving of what you will get in return when you do not use your god-given logic and reason.

If that is considered a 'debate', I am dumbfounded.

Peggy   January 30th, 2008 9:36 pm ET

I won't vote for either McCain or Romney. Huckabee not too likely.

Andrew   January 30th, 2008 9:36 pm ET

Big win for Huckabee in my opinion. Good, sound arguments even when he didn't get much time to talk.

Will   January 30th, 2008 9:36 pm ET

Last question is funny. Here's a synopsis. "Would Reagan endorse you?"

Romney – Yes, I'm confident
McCain – Not Romney, he sucks
Paul – [Something logical that we ignored]
Huckabee – I am going to try to be less arrogant than Romney and McCain

Independent   January 30th, 2008 9:36 pm ET

Has King got the touch screen tonight?

Dave   January 30th, 2008 9:36 pm ET

So what have we learned…

Romney – lawyer
McCain – Army brat
Huckabee – zealot
Ron Paul – Dr.

Hmmmmm….

Who might make the best Republican candidate for bringing real change.

Marian   January 30th, 2008 9:36 pm ET

Best performances:

1. Romney
2. Huckabee
3 McCain
4. Paul

Matthew   January 30th, 2008 9:36 pm ET

I think it's a litle unfair that Dr. Paul has to signal to Anderson Cooper to get time to talk. I think tonight has been extremely awful for McCain… I loved when he could answer the direct question when asked Would you vote for your own immigration proposal bill? All he kept saying was IT WONT BE UP TO VOTE FOR… DUH not the question why don't you just answer the real question. Romney I think is having the most success tonight but I truly believe if given more air time Dr. Paul would easily win this debate. Anyways hes still got my vote …..

RON PAUL 08 <3

Kenneth   January 30th, 2008 9:36 pm ET

Ron Paul won he was the only candidate that had new ideas and a honest opinion about the current state of affairs.

Bobs   January 30th, 2008 9:36 pm ET

DEBATE? THIS WAS NOT A DEBATE! IT WAS A CAMPAIGN FOR ROMNEY AND MCCAIN!

Jeff Mobley   January 30th, 2008 9:36 pm ET

McCain was horrible. Huckabee was awesome.

BobM   January 30th, 2008 9:36 pm ET

Ask McCain what his plan is to get Bin Laden. If he has a plan, let's hear it now if he's such a great American. Sounds like Nixon in 1968. Ron Paul cannot be elected but he speaks for me on those few occasions when he is allowed in the debate. The war was totally wrong, it has been managed to allow Bush to be a war president and if the surge is working why did it take close to 4 years to figure that one out. I cannot stand Romney and Huckabee is naive. So let's get to November in a hurry, please, so we can begin to repair all the damage done during the past 7 years. I want a president who's smarter than I am. BTW is Reagan running for President this year?

Susan McHolland   January 30th, 2008 9:36 pm ET

Huckabee and Paul may have not been allowed to say much, but the little they were allowed to say was by far the best. And that is why they don't stand a chance.

Anon   January 30th, 2008 9:36 pm ET

It would be nice if Huckabee and Paul had more questions, watching a golf match is more exciting than watching Romney and McCain go back and forth. All of the candidates should have had equal time to speak.

rmg   January 30th, 2008 9:36 pm ET

McCain v. Romney is over. When do Huckabee and Paul debate?

Keith B. (Florida)   January 30th, 2008 9:36 pm ET

I really like some of the economic ideas that Ron Paul has, but how can he express them if the panel (who is doing a horribly inexcusable job of engaging ALL the candidates in the conversation)? This is a disservice to republican voters and independents alike. Democrats, get ready for one more vote from an independent who actually wants to hear a debate of ideas instead of foolishness between two of the four candidates.

Paul Witny   January 30th, 2008 9:36 pm ET

Huckabee & Paul did very well.

Lisa   January 30th, 2008 9:35 pm ET

I think letting these guys put words in Reagan's mouth was disrespectful.

Road Agent   January 30th, 2008 9:35 pm ET

BOO – McCain – What a slime ball!!!! His snide remarks are disgusting and TOTALLY uncalled for.

CONGRATULATIONS – Mitt Romney on keeping his cool and answering the questions profoundly.

Ron Paul – Too much like George Romney – He spoke the truth too and they crucified him over a war too.

Huckabee – A good man and would make a good VP to Romney -

Paul   January 30th, 2008 9:35 pm ET

Could we hear twelve more times about McCain being a foot soldier in the Reagan revolution? Shame we couldn't have spent that time allowing all to have equal time.

Richard   January 30th, 2008 9:35 pm ET

Alison, Do respect to you, but I do happen to agree that the infrastructure does need to be rebuilt. There are bridges and dams all over the Us that are close to failure. If we raise the money to fund the infrastructure through the sale of tax free bonds we are not only helping our economy, but we are also allowing incentive to invest. Let china invest in America not loan to it.

Dan   January 30th, 2008 9:35 pm ET

I sounds like the only candidate Reagan ever endorsed is Ron Paul.

Michael   January 30th, 2008 9:35 pm ET

Wow this debate was a J-O-K-E. I think if Ron Paul had been given equal time he would have CLOBBERED everyone else on the panel.

ANDERSON CORPORATE LAPDOG   January 30th, 2008 9:35 pm ET

PANDERING TO MCCAIN AND ROMNEY.

THE ONLY PERSON WHO SPEAKS CLEARLY AND HONESTLY IS

RON PAUL.

THE REST IS THE SAME OLD POLITICAL HACKS.

Gaius   January 30th, 2008 9:35 pm ET

Congratulations to Anderson Cooper! Way to go. You are sooo Awesome.

DJS   January 30th, 2008 9:35 pm ET

Romney =1, Huckabee=2, Paul=3, McCain=shady politician

Rex   January 30th, 2008 9:35 pm ET

Is America brain dead? Only one man up there speaks with any knowledge. I will let you guess who that is. America is finished! Why can't you talk about the 180 trillion in worthless derivatives there are floating around. The dollar is junk and the rest of the world is going to spit on the petrodollar.

WHAT?   January 30th, 2008 9:35 pm ET

This debate may have bee many things, but FAIR was not one of them.

How disappointing.

Lena B.   January 30th, 2008 9:35 pm ET

Thank God the Romney-McCain debate is over.

June Ellis   January 30th, 2008 9:35 pm ET

Ron Paul won this debate.

jaso   January 30th, 2008 9:35 pm ET

go huck

alan   January 30th, 2008 9:35 pm ET

Contrasting the two main candidates, Romney and McCain, Romney is answering more of the questions directly rather than returning to rhetoric about being a veteran and a "foot-soldier" for Reagan.

sue   January 30th, 2008 9:35 pm ET

What are McCain's principals? He only attacks others. I am impressed by Huckabee.

Angie   January 30th, 2008 9:35 pm ET

McCain looks like a fool. Talk about a liar! He makes me physically ill. Please people don't vote for such a dishonest person!

Joe Gru   January 30th, 2008 9:35 pm ET

I miss Regan. Would Nancy run?

Nobunny   January 30th, 2008 9:35 pm ET

There are many reasons I would never support McCain, but his presence on stage…the condescending looks he gives Ron Paul…is despicable.

Lynn   January 30th, 2008 9:35 pm ET

Great last words Mr. Huckabee!

gil hulse   January 30th, 2008 9:35 pm ET

I'm sick of hearing of "winning in Iraq". What is winning in Iraq? Sadaam is dead. They have never been a threat to the USA. We would be much better talking about Afghanistan and Pakistan as they are a very real problem for us.

Pakistan, Russia, North Korea, Isreal, India, France, England have Nuclear capability. Get real and soon.

RLS   January 30th, 2008 9:35 pm ET

Seriously, if Huckabee weren't so twisted on the "family values" issues. He would be one hell of a candidate that could get the moderates in his corner.

Huckabee is the most eloquent of all four of them up there, and really doesn't get into the mud like the rest of them.

Carlos   January 30th, 2008 9:35 pm ET

What a scinical individual McCain has become against Romney. Someone in his staff should tell him to get that smirk off his face every time Romney talks. Who annointed McCaim GOD that nothing he has done in government has been a wrong decision.

McCain critizes the democrats on flip-flopping, yet every state he has campaigned in he tells voters what they want to hear and not what he really stands for.

annoyed viewer   January 30th, 2008 9:35 pm ET

Ron Paul is the only conservative on the stage. I can't wait to hear all the 'brilliant analysts' tell us how fantastic romney and mccain did. Get real, all they did was argue with each other.

chad castellanos   January 30th, 2008 9:35 pm ET

great job CNN you now look so non biased…

loopster   January 30th, 2008 9:35 pm ET

OK, DEBATE IS ALMOST OVER. TIME FOR ALL THE RON PAUL FANS TO RETURN TO THEIR BACK YARDS AND SPOT FLYING SAUCERS!

Donald   January 30th, 2008 9:35 pm ET

Every time McCain says, "radical muslim extremists" we all take a drink.

Amber   January 30th, 2008 9:35 pm ET

I wish that McCain would wipe that smirk off his face. He is trying to make the others look unexperienced. It is obvious, right or wrong, that Huckabee, Paul, and Romney speak from their hearts. McCain looks very foolish.

Rodel   January 30th, 2008 9:35 pm ET

worse moderator ever

woopie.   January 30th, 2008 9:35 pm ET

GREAT ANSWER HUCKABEE! he has my vote.
i think he has a better chace for beating either HIllary or Obama..

Sue Null   January 30th, 2008 9:35 pm ET

Several comments after watching for the past 30 minutes:
1) Senator McCain's demeanor while other candidates are speaking is very disrespectful and disdainful. He seems very smug.
2) Senator McCain turns every question back to his military experience. He refuses to speak to the economy.
3) The moderators were not effective in granting equal time and questions to the candidates. Senator Paul and Governor Huckabee were treated like step-children. It's obvious they believe that McCain and Romney are the only viable candidates and don't want to "waste time" on the others.

Jim   January 30th, 2008 9:34 pm ET

Romney and McCain are starting to make Huckabee and Paul look like much better choices. It's disappointing that Dr Paul has not only been asked few questions but has been clearly cut off when when he has had a chance. At least Huckabee is pointing out that he's being slanted.

I'm really sick of hearing about Reagan. What I remember from those years is the beginning of runaway spending and rapid deficit spending growth, the Iran-Contra hearings, and an administration that had more people indicted than any other. Why in the world does everyone want to emulate the guy?

Laurel   January 30th, 2008 9:34 pm ET

I've decided my vote……I'm voting for Barak Obama…..he makes more sense than any of these jokers or Hillary. I'm just sorry that Ron Paul has not been given a chance in any of these debates.

Dawn Kinateder   January 30th, 2008 9:34 pm ET

What do I think of tonight's GOP debate? Horrible. Unfair. Joke.
Get over yourselves.

This is officially the LAST time I EVER turn on CNN.

smellytuna   January 30th, 2008 9:34 pm ET

If there was a debate drinking game, you'd get right sloshed if you drank each time Romney or McCain was asked to speak either in response to a question or in response to a remark another candidate makes.

David Pope   January 30th, 2008 9:34 pm ET

W.W.R.R.D.?

TXCon1   January 30th, 2008 9:34 pm ET

John McShame has spirit….mean, lying spirit!

Lauren   January 30th, 2008 9:34 pm ET

Ron Paul is right on. He seems to be the only candidate that doesn't drop his name every chance he gets, and actually answers the questions that he is asked. And Its absurd that hes continues to get cut off, while these other candidates get to blabber on about nothing.

And you know what seems strange to me?… Is that the polls say that Ron Paul has been doing terribly in the polls, but I see the majority of these comments are supporting him.

Rusty   January 30th, 2008 9:34 pm ET

Thank U CNN, you have given us two very easy choices in Ron Paul and Huckabee, due to the fact that you have let the two "Front Runners" speak so much, they have really showed how silly and arrogant and not President material!!!!

Uomo Del Ghiaccio   January 30th, 2008 9:34 pm ET

Huckabee got the answer correct that he should not presume who Regan would vote for. Now Jesus that's another issue.

SGS   January 30th, 2008 9:34 pm ET

McCain seems dazed and confused.

Daniel   January 30th, 2008 9:34 pm ET

Ron Paul is the most considerable republican to vote for.

Phil   January 30th, 2008 9:34 pm ET

why do we want presidential canidates who instead of answering the questions just argue with each other i.e.mccain and romney? huckabee and paul actually give answers

Anthony   January 30th, 2008 9:34 pm ET

I hate to say it but you have to get over the Ron Paul stuff, the republican party has made it clear he is not going anywhere and I don't think he going to turn it around this late in the game. Sorry

Vince Young   January 30th, 2008 9:34 pm ET

I'm disgusted with the amount of time your are giving to McCain. I find rude, aggressive and a bare faced liar.

Why don't you give some time to Ron Paul and Mile Hucklebee?

McCain is a little man, overly confident and arrogant in his demeanor. I grow tired of his reminding us that he was a P.O.W.; so were hundreds of other men.
I do not consider him a Republican. He votes with the liberal Democrats at least half of the time. He considered running with John Kerry as his V.P.
"He was not a foot soldier in the Reagan era" as he has reminded us only five times tonight. He was a foot dragger during the Reagan administration.

Susan   January 30th, 2008 9:34 pm ET

I'm sick of hearing about Reganomics. Reagan only benefitted the rich. Much like the last 8 years.

CHRIS S   January 30th, 2008 9:34 pm ET

SLICK WILLEY ROMNEY NEEDS TO SPEND LESS TIME IN THE TANNING BOOTH!!!!!! THIS GUY IS "PRESIDENTIAL"…..NOT EVEN CLOSE!!!!!!!

Mike   January 30th, 2008 9:34 pm ET

McCain is a real STRAIGHT talker…..WHATEVER he is so walking AROUND evey question….give us a strainght anwser

Anonymous   January 30th, 2008 9:32 pm ET

Heidi,
I agree, this will favor Romney. Now that McCain is not using his cue cards he is putting his foot in his mouth. He is just making Romney and the others look better. Can you imagine McCain going to other countries representing the USA. They will be wondering where the President or our leader went. They will have no idea what McCain would be saying. He is all over the board and they would fall asleep.

Manny   January 30th, 2008 9:32 pm ET

Who cares if Ronald Reagan would vote for any of these knuckleheads. How is that gonna help a single mom with 2 pay her mortgage or a elderly woman pay for her prescriptions that are already high. How is that gonna help a failing education system in America, or a economy that is reliant of loans from countries who would rather see us all dead. Can someone tell me.

Daniel   January 30th, 2008 9:32 pm ET

Reagon would only endorse Ron Paul

Steve   January 30th, 2008 9:32 pm ET

McCain's a liberal and will lose the nomination because of his consistent lying about the facts. Romney makes him look like an idiot.

Liz   January 30th, 2008 9:32 pm ET

Please give all candidates equal time. Republicans deserve the opportunity for comprehensive debate from ALL candidates. Thank you.

Ryan, Seattle   January 30th, 2008 9:32 pm ET

McCain is an angry old curmudgeon who will no doubt get us into more wars over pride, rather than purpose. Goodbye freedom of speech. Hello draft and recession.

john   January 30th, 2008 9:32 pm ET

Im sorry but HILLARY IS GOING TO DESTROY MCCAIN IN THE GENERAL ELECTION.

Travis   January 30th, 2008 9:32 pm ET

Long live The Constitution!

We need someone in the White House who will fulfil his or her oath to uphold the greatest document in the world.

Can any of you guess which of the four up there would do so?

Gina Walding   January 30th, 2008 9:32 pm ET

Romney is not a Ronald Reagan!!!!!!!!

Amen McCain!!!!! Ronald Reagan had principles!!!!!!!!

GREAT ANSWER!!!

JULI   January 30th, 2008 9:32 pm ET

Ronald Reagan is my husband's hero…..and my husband will never vote for mCCAIN!

Matt   January 30th, 2008 9:32 pm ET

Mitt Romney is buddy-buddy with alot of Washington insiders… my local representative Allan Bense is a good example.
Don't let him fool you.

Randy   January 30th, 2008 9:32 pm ET

Ronald Reagan would say, "Mitt, read my lips…SHUT UP!"

Stephen Waits   January 30th, 2008 9:32 pm ET

Equal time for all candidates! CNN is UNFAIR and UNBALANCED. You are actually WORSE than Faux News Channel!!!

Beth   January 30th, 2008 9:32 pm ET

I was hoping to watch the debate to become more familiar with each candidate. I have been extremely disappointed with the allocation of time given to Huckabee and Paul. This was simply a McCain/Romney debate.

Lizbeth   January 30th, 2008 9:32 pm ET

All I hear from Romney and McCain is same ole… they spew at each other, flip flop, and fuss between themselves. What they're saying is what they think we want to hear for the most part, with a few exceptions but why is it they are made out to be the ONLY ones to listen to. Frankly I was thinking of voting for Romney but now I'm pretty sure I'll change my vote to Huckabee or Paul. I'm TIRED OF THE SAME OLE…!!!!

Paul Barber   January 30th, 2008 9:32 pm ET

Huckabee is leading in polls in Alabama, Georgia, Missouri, Tennessee, Arkansas, Texas, and is close in Oklahoma.

This is not a two man race and CNN should be ashamed for the way they moderated this debate.

Marc   January 30th, 2008 9:31 pm ET

"CNN's Best Political Team"
hehehehehehehehe…
What a poorly led debate.

jon - CT   January 30th, 2008 9:31 pm ET

There are other questions that need to be asked:

Selective Service Draft: Yes or No

Tax Code: What changes?

Energy: Drill in ANWAR and the eAST cOAST aTLANTIC

dona   January 30th, 2008 9:31 pm ET

The debate is unfair in that CNN & Anderson Copper is not allowing the FOUR candidates to answer. CNN has already called the race between Romney and Mc Cain. I think we should forget the debates in the future because theyr'e not balanced!!!!!!!!!

RR   January 30th, 2008 9:31 pm ET

What have we learned…. Ronnie would vote democratic!

Mary   January 30th, 2008 9:31 pm ET

That's right Huckabee. You will run the US like you did Arkansas. You tried to give all illegals free tuition to colleges. The state legislature stopped you. Ed Rollins can dress you up as against illegal immigration but I do not for a moment think you will stand against illegals.

JamesLloyd   January 30th, 2008 9:31 pm ET

Who would Ronald Reagan endorse? HaHaHA Hmmm?

tase   January 30th, 2008 9:31 pm ET

Huckabee has my vote now…I don't want to spend the next four years listening to the same "crap" as I have tonight from McCain & Romney.

N. Wood   January 30th, 2008 9:31 pm ET

Your right Kim, I so looked forward to this debate because there'd be more equal time. Anderson Cooper is uncooth and slanted. Jack!! If you have any pull, do something.

Sue   January 30th, 2008 9:31 pm ET

In a previous debate, Senator McCain said he knows where Bin Laden is and when he is President he would go get him. If he knows where Bin Laden is, why as a present sitting Senator isn't he sharing that information with the rest of the Congress and the President so we can get him now.

Nick M.   January 30th, 2008 9:31 pm ET

America, watch! You are watching your election being decided for you….

Leigh   January 30th, 2008 9:31 pm ET

A minute to answer, huh? Who thinks that's gonna happen? More like Romney will get 3 minutes and McCain will get the other 1.

Joseph   January 30th, 2008 9:31 pm ET

Who is Nacy Reagan backing??

Kevin   January 30th, 2008 9:31 pm ET

GO MIKE GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Finally some quality time for Mike.

Hey Mitt, Reagan would only vote for you becasue of your hair. hehe I had to get one in there somehow. :-)

VOTE FOR HUCKABEE   January 30th, 2008 9:31 pm ET

MIKE HUCKABEE IS THE ONLY CANDIDATE WHO SUPPORTS A HUMAN LIFE AMENDMENT.

Patrick   January 30th, 2008 9:31 pm ET

Someone knock AC out already…
Romney "Reagan……Reagan….Reagan…….I am like you….Reagan…..Change…..Reagan Change? …..Reagan…..Change……Reagan

Roland   January 30th, 2008 9:31 pm ET

Great answer by Hucklebee. WOW! He made the rest of them look like they don't belong on the stage!

coni   January 30th, 2008 9:31 pm ET

Mccain needs to understand that the V N war is over. Quit looking back to that era, get with today. that's the only thing he brings to the table.Ron Paul has so much to say if Coop would just listen. If mccain is on the ballot with hilary, as a conservative, i'll go with hilary just so mccain doesn't get near pennsylvania ave and ruin it for the conservative republicans in 2010.

Mark   January 30th, 2008 9:31 pm ET

Mc Cain looked like he was falling asleep about a 1/2 hour ago !! He kept closing his eyes. Time for bed!!

JP Huser   January 30th, 2008 9:30 pm ET

Does anyone else wonder how many times McCain will use the term "radical Islamic extremist" before his campaign is over? Everyone else is talking about change and he is talking the same old Republican politics of fear. It's obvious he has a clear misunderstanding of the role of our President; we do not need a powerful military dictator John.

Biff   January 30th, 2008 9:30 pm ET

Great smurk McCain……..That builds confidence

Como   January 30th, 2008 9:30 pm ET

McCain ~ he has served our country and of course we are all thankful – but that does not mean that we should bow before him or that he is fit to be our president. Just the sight of him makes me sick to my stomach. He wont stop smirking lol it is driving me nuts!

Kraig Vardaman   January 30th, 2008 9:30 pm ET

Huck's got it figured. I hope if he doesn't get the nom, that he'll be Mac's Veep.

Landon   January 30th, 2008 9:30 pm ET

do we need a president that's going to take us into more war? mccain seems like he's stuck in 2001 when we thought a war with iraq and afghanistan was a good thing.

Pete Walmsley   January 30th, 2008 9:30 pm ET

Senator McCain is too negative, directive, and disrespectful to Gov. Romney. My support will not go to McCain.

Gov. Romney is better tempered and more mature with his responses to McCain.

CNN should be giving more "equal" time to Huckabee and Paul.

My support will be for the Republican ticket – I like Huckabee, Paul and Romney. I feel like Romney will get the nomination.

Huckabee and Paul both give better explainations and talk "with" the average American's langauage and lingo.

I respect McCain, but he has a chip on his shoulder.

Gina Walding   January 30th, 2008 9:30 pm ET

Huckabee is the more intelligent of these four candidates and he's funny. He has not stumbled on one question!!!!!! McCain VP 2nd choice. Romney, no way not trust worthy.

Good response to Anderson!

Stolworthy   January 30th, 2008 9:30 pm ET

Let me tell you something, people are not giving Ron Paul questions because a large majority of his ideas are ludicrous. I am not saying that they should not give equal time to each person, I do however believe that there is not a chance in the world, no, in this univierse, that Ron Paul will get the presidency. I know that, you know that, that is that.

Independent Thinker   January 30th, 2008 9:30 pm ET

This is ridiculous! We hash and re-hash past actions/statements and don't talk about the future and what can be done to correct the challenges we face as a nation.
- Sending jobs to other countries is far more damaging to our country than illegal immigrants.
- Corporate greed (Enron, sub-prime mortgage mess and other coroporate boards that put short term profit ahead of the people that actually do the work) are much more damaging to our economy than taxes – look at the HUGE stock options and other compensation that high level managers get – corporate taxes PALE in comparison – some of these hooligans are getting hundreds of millions of dollars while the average "Joe" gets gyped out of health care, a reasonable standard of living and retirement.
Throw out the lot of them and get some new thinking.

Elise   January 30th, 2008 9:30 pm ET

This is the worst debate I have seen this entire election. Anderson Cooper wants to let "McCain and Romney get a minute to comment on this…" They are the ONLY ones who are getting any airtime and it is a blatant attempt by the media to sway the people to what the media wants. Let Ron Paul speak, let Huckabee speak! The other two get plenty of coverage and they are not even worth listening to. They do not have answers to problems, only personal attacks and unfounded claims that they can "manage" this and that. They are not offering solutions! Shame on you, CNN, for letting all of this nit-picking continue! Let's discuss issues and policies!

Jeff   January 30th, 2008 9:29 pm ET

PLEASE, make an effort, no matter how much you believe Huckabee and Paul to be outside the process, to give equal time to all. The rest of us labor under the delusion that everyone should be heard on each of the issues. The post debate CNN analysis will verify that Huckabee and Paul are out of the race but give the rest of us a chance to believe that everybody has a shot.

Susan M.   January 30th, 2008 9:29 pm ET

This debate has focused too many questions on McCain and Romney. Seems like you are deciding this is only a two man race, but as an undecided Republican, I would like to make my own decision and would like to see ALL FOUR candidates equal opportunity to respond! You have not allowed us to hear Ron Paul or Mike Huckabee respond to many questions. This is very poor moderating….

jon   January 30th, 2008 9:29 pm ET

Duplicate comment detected; it looks as though you've already said that!
This is a mcain romney debate …

Lee R.   January 30th, 2008 9:29 pm ET

Ron Paul Is by far the best canidate. I will do everything in my power to get him elected

Donn   January 30th, 2008 9:29 pm ET

I fell like we're listening to two "Chatty Kathy's" who, whatever the question, pull the string and out comes an answer. It probably doesn't answer the question that was asked, but they can keep on talking!

Alison   January 30th, 2008 9:29 pm ET

Huckabee needs to pack up and go home. He's a liberal in policy. He wants to create gov't jobs in order to fuel the economy. He wants redistribution of wealth. He wants the Democratic platform – & in fairness, except when it comes to social policy.

Tife   January 30th, 2008 9:29 pm ET

CNN loves to listen to crap. Thats why they ONLY speak to McCain and Romney. What about the HONEST one …Ron Paul?! God forbid the media gives this deserving candidate t.v. time. VOTE RON PAUL!

RabidSkeptic   January 30th, 2008 9:29 pm ET

hear hear! For the CONSTITUTION. lets re-instate the RULE of LAW!!

terra   January 30th, 2008 9:29 pm ET

For those of you that didn't know much about Ron Paul he came in 2nd in Nevada and Louisiana, but the media never covered it. These news corporations will not benefit from Paul being president. His 50 year anniversary is also tomorrow. You want a truthful president, he is your man!

David Smith   January 30th, 2008 9:29 pm ET

Huckabee gave another good answer. I just wish that with his lower showings, he would drop out and endorse Romney, who has a much better chance.

bob   January 30th, 2008 9:29 pm ET

Are there not four people on the stage. Since I have watched this it has been mostly McCain-Romney talking and not giving the other two canidates a chance.

cynthia Frego   January 30th, 2008 9:29 pm ET

Anderson,
I sat and listened to the debate and was appalled at how you didn't
include Hucabee or Paul. At this point it is a four way race still not
just a race between Romney and McCain. I think the media thinks
they control who is already winning the race and it is wrong.
Give them a chance.
Thank you,
Cynthia Frego

Pat   January 30th, 2008 9:29 pm ET

Pon Raul. to your question, yes probably

Jeff Daniels   January 30th, 2008 9:29 pm ET

I wish I could smack the grins off of McCain and Romney! RP speaks logic and they act as if he is speaking chinese.

Michael   January 30th, 2008 9:29 pm ET

Wow! The ONLY guy up there who seems to make any sense IS Ron Paul. And I'm a Democrat! Forget the Romney-McCain free-for-all!

kathy m.   January 30th, 2008 9:29 pm ET

This "debate" was a joke! No equal time. If Huckabee and Paul got near the time or questions of the other two, we might get a chance to see if we have a real choice other than media fed frenzy for McCainism.

rudy   January 30th, 2008 9:29 pm ET

ANDREW, You are aboutsly correct

Jim   January 30th, 2008 9:29 pm ET

Why is Anderson continually ignoring Ron Paul?

I am not a Ron Paul supporter. But I feel he should still be allowed to say his peace.

Anderson I am disappointed in you and you obvious bias against Ron Paul. You have been a terrible representative of CNN.

Ron   January 30th, 2008 9:29 pm ET

Look, we cannot have a strong Military without having a strong economy. In my opinion, John McCain is all Military and as such, he will and we will fail.

Mitt Romney can creat a strong economy and thus a strong Military.

When is John McCain going back to college to study economy???????? He is not worthy because of his limited knowledge.

America is like a light bulb and if we are not careful, the light can and will go out!!!!! Vote Mitt Romney!!!

jordan   January 30th, 2008 9:29 pm ET

I LOVE PAUL I LOVE HIM! look at romney and mccain laughing at him. they are idiots! he is speaking the truth and they are too pompous and arrogant to acknowledge it!

scarlet   January 30th, 2008 9:29 pm ET

WHO IS GOING TO HAVE WHO FOR VICE PRESIDENT..THE AMERICAN PEOPLE HAVE A RIGHT TO KNOW AHEAD OF TIME….

sastre   January 30th, 2008 9:29 pm ET

Why can't McCaine once and for all stop talking about the "timetable"-issue. Romney has clarified and explained his position many times now. It is really cumbersome McCaine, like a stubborn man, coming back again and again on this subject. Romney's position is clear.

Elaine   January 30th, 2008 9:29 pm ET

TROY:

"Ron Paul is really a democrat"

Wow. I would love to hear what a democrat would think of your accusation! Ron Paul is the only truly conservative person up there who actually represents what the Republican party stands for. Perhaps you should do your homework because either you have no clue what Paul's position is on the issues or you have no clue what the Rep party stands for.

UndecidedSTILL   January 30th, 2008 9:29 pm ET

While I am a still undecided CALIFORNIA VOTER, I am extremely steamed that Mr. Huckabee and Mr. Paul are not given the same amount of time and questions with rebuttal as Mr. Romney and Mr. McCain.

Also, Mr. Romney and Mr. McCain are bickering over small potatoes. I am so tired of the backbiting comments and finger pointing. It's oh so boring and such a waste of valuable undecided voter information time.

Get real.

Darcy   January 30th, 2008 9:28 pm ET

Can someone tell me why McCain grins like the joker every time Paul speaks?

chad   January 30th, 2008 9:28 pm ET

Amen Mike!!!

Matt H.   January 30th, 2008 9:28 pm ET

McCain and Romney act like Paul is a crazy man because he's the only one that is has a legitimate message. He's the only candidate…republican or democrat that is a threat to Washington politics.

Rebekah   January 30th, 2008 9:28 pm ET

I love how Huck is standing up to the panel!

McCain is SSSOOOOOOOO B-O-R-I-N-G!!!!!! ZZZZZZZzzzzzzzz

amy   January 30th, 2008 9:28 pm ET

It is sad that the media decides or candidates for us. I believe if Ron Paul shared the spotlight like romney or clinton/obama fiasco he would be a leading front runner.

Isaiah Shultz   January 30th, 2008 9:28 pm ET

What candidates Romney and McCain have to say is all fine and well, but I would like to hear Huckabees and Ron Pauls opinions on the subjects of the war on terror and our homefront.

John   January 30th, 2008 9:28 pm ET

Wouldn't you like to smack the smirks off of McCain and Romney's faces when Paul speaks? They know he's right!

wally   January 30th, 2008 9:28 pm ET

well enough is enough – im out of here – boring as hell and totally one sided for mccaine – and turning off cnn – later folks

Valerie   January 30th, 2008 9:28 pm ET

I want to hear more from HUCKABEE and PAUL!!!!!!! I wish this was a timed debate with each question being answered by EACH candidate!!!

Go HUCKABEE!!!

Krayon   January 30th, 2008 9:28 pm ET

Ron Paul still has more military donations than any of the others, which means that the soldiers support him more than they do McCain.

That's undisputed.

You can't claim to support the troops and yet not support their candidate. I don't get it.

Cheryl Hankosky   January 30th, 2008 9:28 pm ET

Wasted time with the McCain,Romney situation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I pray some BIG Liberals will really see the light, these days ahead you media need to STOP,STOP slanting everything said.

Iam sick of it and really of Bill Clinton and Hillary, they appaul me!!!!!

Dirty politics are what you love.

Thanks for giving me a chance to say what I have said,I hope something will CHANGE!!!!!!!

Cheryl Hankosky

Jason   January 30th, 2008 9:28 pm ET

Huckabee reminds me of Dr. Phil with his analogies…they crak me up

Sunny in NC   January 30th, 2008 9:28 pm ET

Enough with Romny and McCain, really. ther are 4 candidates up there. and for the love of God, can someone cut McCain off? You seem to have no problem cutting Ron Paul and Gov Huckabee off. Anderson Cooper, what has happened to you! Or are you falling to sleep during McCain's repetative answers. I actually like McCain until tonight. So, thanks for that…I guess.

SHANNON   January 30th, 2008 9:27 pm ET

RON PAUL IS VERY INTELIGENT….HE WOULD MAKE A GOOD VICE PRESIDENT.

Terry   January 30th, 2008 9:27 pm ET

McCain is losing it big. Mitt finally found his strong voice. More applause for Mitt and a couple of boo for McCain.

Dayton   January 30th, 2008 9:27 pm ET

I wish John McCain would wipe that smirk off his face. One smirking president in my lifetime is enough. Romney and Huckaby are the only two on stage that strike me as being Presidential.

Ana   January 30th, 2008 9:27 pm ET

McCain certainly knows how to beat around the bush. He really hasn't answered a single question directly. His answers are broad and he has no presence. He's not calm – he's weak and lacks life and conviction when he speaks. He doesn't know what to do on his own. He has to "hire management."

Huckabee, on the other hand, can introduce ideas which seem good, but are not the most practical in order to bring about the quick, positive change we need.

Ron Paul stands no chance and will continue to get little air time, despite how unfair that is.

We must VOTE ROMNEY! He backs up what he says with facts and his actions. He is a leader.

Brian Harris   January 30th, 2008 9:27 pm ET

What are these candidates talking about? The only one that seems to care about financial responsibilities to our country's future isn't getting asked any questions. Stay in Iraq until when? Where is the money coming from? It is being diverted from somewhere. We have created an upside down economy, no healthcare for millions, no future social security for our elders and we are killing the environment. But Reagan would be happy; i guess we should thank God for that!

Aaron in AZ   January 30th, 2008 9:27 pm ET

To Lisa:
Romney is our only hope.

Pkg   January 30th, 2008 9:27 pm ET

Addressing the housing market, Mr. McCain stated that we would need to look to see if there are individuals who should be punished for the part they played in the crisis. To what extent does he feel that the loosening of constraints on the credit industry by the Republican Party is responsible for creating an environment in which this type of behavior was both encouraged and legitimized? Has George Bush’s changes to regulatory policies created an environment in which the cards are “stacked” against marginal borrowers by higher penalties, more strict bankruptcy laws, and unchecked sales practices by the industry, creating what amounts to a new “penalties” profit point for the industry?

jaso   January 30th, 2008 9:27 pm ET

dOUG HOW ABOUT A ROMNEY HUCKABEE TEAM

Richard P   January 30th, 2008 9:27 pm ET

You don't have to have cancer to be a cancer surgeon. You don't have to have been in the military to be an effective commander -in-chief.

Rick Ragaller   January 30th, 2008 9:27 pm ET

Hey Cooper, there are more candidates than Romney and McCain! Get the other two candidates involved!

Keith Bright   January 30th, 2008 9:27 pm ET

Please keep this a 4 person debate. It is so obvious that Cooper is driving focus on Romney and McCain. Ask them all about their opinion of replacing the IRS with something else. Let all four participate equally. Please!!

NF   January 30th, 2008 9:26 pm ET

Finally, AC giving Ron Paul time. HOORAY!

InTroy   January 30th, 2008 9:26 pm ET

I think that debates should be governed like the press is managed with fair time. It is amazing that Ron Paul and Mike Huckabee have had less than 1/8th of the alloted time and Ron Paul has had less than 1% of the overall time.

Barbara Schulz   January 30th, 2008 9:26 pm ET

Where is your fairnessto all canadates? It's just been a debate betwwen
McCain and Rommney and not the other two been given a chance to speak
but cut off. Why didn't you let Ron Paul talk? It's easy to see who you are
trying to elect.

Pon Raul   January 30th, 2008 9:25 pm ET

So if it comes down to McCain and Paul (just for arguments sake) they would ask McCain all the questions?

JP Morgan   January 30th, 2008 9:25 pm ET

Romney is a rich guy from old money I do not trust that type great ideas ,problems with execution (Bush Jr). McCain has to win and kept on a tight leash Limbaugh will do that . We are not true enough to ourselves to hear Ron P.

Toota   January 30th, 2008 9:25 pm ET

Thanks CNN for turning this into the McCain/Romney Debate!!!!

For crying out loud, we're down to four candidates, but you'd never know it!

Andrew Huffman   January 30th, 2008 9:25 pm ET

I economy is hurting because of one reason, gas prices. Is our economy better off today compared to eight years ago? How much did gas cost eight years ago? Not 3 dollars a gallon. People have a hard time paying their morgage because they are paying between 100 and 200 dollars more a month just to get places. Not to mention the prices of goods rise as transportation costs rise. Milk costs 4 dollars a gallon. That's rediculous.

htxns   January 30th, 2008 9:25 pm ET

There's a name for people like you, McCain….Clinton.

Jay   January 30th, 2008 9:25 pm ET

Romney has beaten McCain tonight on Romneys record. McCain has looked a bit confused. I would like to see more questions to Huckabee. Huckabee is second on the amount of delgates. I wish they would talk less about their record. i want to hear more about what they would do.

Craig S   January 30th, 2008 9:24 pm ET

As far as debates go, this is a yawnfest. It seems more an informercial for the Reagan Library and less a debate. The reverence that Anderson Cooper had for Reagan's diary was a bit over the top. Regarding Ron Paul's participation…why is he there if the questioners won't ask him anything? If there are 4 people on the stage, all four should be asked questions.

As for the candidates:
Romney: Other than the first question, he's answering the questions asked, (as much as any politician)
McCain: Not so much. I think he gives the answers he wants to give, even if it has nothing to do with the question asked.
Paul: Who knows? He hasn't had a chance to speak
Huckabee: His zealotry is shining through.

Glenn   January 30th, 2008 9:24 pm ET

Huckabee and Paul should just get up and walk out. This is BS CNN

Lisa   January 30th, 2008 9:24 pm ET

McCain is currently my choice among the republican candidates, but if he keeps trying to push that "Romney wants time tables for withdrawal from Iraq" fable I'm going to have to re-think my decision. That issue has been clarified enough and MCain keeps trying to twist the truth. It's getting tiresome.

Bruce   January 30th, 2008 9:24 pm ET

I like the question about Putin. This debate (CNN) reminds me of Russia where the government decides who is the next president. I would like to hear from all the canidates. McCain and Romney have had their time.

JIM   January 30th, 2008 9:23 pm ET

You can surely see the corporate owned media and the powers that be in this country is scared to death of Ron Paul. I don't understand why CNN bothered to have Ron Paul in this debate, but I guess that's what happens when you decide to lick the boots of your masters. I like Ron Paul a lot. If he doesn't become president it's over for America. Ron Paul needs to start standing up for the people who are supporting him and start demanding to be heard.

Doug   January 30th, 2008 9:23 pm ET

While I have the utmost respect for John Mcain and his service to this country, I do not think he is the right guy to be the leader of our nation. I am torn between Huckabee, Romney and would mind hearing more from Paul.

dave   January 30th, 2008 9:23 pm ET

That's right. Romney is a better leader.

Mike   January 30th, 2008 9:23 pm ET

I was voting for Romney. I am now for McCain!! I am sick of hearing Romney complain. McCain will act in the best interest of the Country as our President.

Anonymous   January 30th, 2008 9:23 pm ET

McCain and Romney just don't do the trick for me. They are experienced in certain fields-not all areas-which is problematic. I like Huckabee. Ron Paul has good ideas. McCain doesn't speak well.

Justin   January 30th, 2008 9:23 pm ET

What have we learned? McCain is very proud of himself.

Bill   January 30th, 2008 9:23 pm ET

CNN come on hold McCain accountable to answer don't let him off the hook PLEASE……………………………….

Mark   January 30th, 2008 9:23 pm ET

I"m voting for Huckabee as well.

steve   January 30th, 2008 9:23 pm ET

I will be voting for HUCKABEE or Paul…. 25 years of buying companies and selling them to Foreign interest. Tell the truth Romney.

Kelly   January 30th, 2008 9:23 pm ET

As an American citizen, I'd like the right to select my own candidate. I'd prefer that you did not deprive me of this fundamental right in a free society. The debate this evening clearly demonstrates an attempt on the part of CNN to promote one or two candidates over an above any others. The vast majority of questions are asked of Sen. McCain and Gov. Romney. Very few questions have been asked directly to Congressman Paul and very few questions of Gov. Huckabee. In fact, the first direct question for Congressman Paul was asked a full hour and ten minutes into the debate. Either allow all of the candidates to participate equally in the debate, or simply go ahead and eliminate the two CNN isn't interested in hearing. Why humiliate Congressman Paul and Gov. Huckabee by having them sit quietly on stage, waiting a turn to speak – a turn that obviously isn't going to arrive? Let them go home or go to another network if you aren't interested in listening to their thoughts. Anderson Cooper completely cut off Congressman Paul on at least two occasions. Was he (Cooper) under orders from his superiors to deny Congressman Paul the chance to remark? It certainly smacked of that appearance.

I've never written to a network before, and I venture to say that I probably won't again. Tonight's "debate" simply irritated me so much that I felt it necessary to write you. The media – I thought – had the responsibility and obligation to present unbiased reporting. Contrary to what you may believe, American citizens are quite capable of selecting a qualified Presidential candidate. Please allow us that opportunity. Do not manipulate the public. And just so you know, I'm not a Paul or Huckabee supporter. I just would have liked to hear what they had to say. Thank you for taking my comments into consideration.

c'mon   January 30th, 2008 9:23 pm ET

How about this Question : How will any of them, as president, get the Congress move their "Blooming A__" and get the job done?

christy usilton   January 30th, 2008 9:23 pm ET

They never let Ron Paul talk…and yet, he is always a gentleman…

BobbyD   January 30th, 2008 9:23 pm ET

Ron Paul is the ONLY real choice to save this broken mess of America! Wake up! When media slants the debate this bad you have to realize you dont even have the right to pick your own candidate because they WONT ALLOW them all to speak! But I guess with all the vote fraud it probably wouldnt matter if they did! WAKE UP AMERICA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

alex   January 30th, 2008 9:23 pm ET

This is a debate? This is the worst I have ever seen. Let Ron Paul speak. Let me find out why I should not support him.

Steve   January 30th, 2008 9:23 pm ET

For those who believe that going to IRAQ was the right thing to do, who was scheduled to takeover the running of the country after we dealt with Suddam Hussein? Did it take an invasion of IRAQ to takeout Suddam Hussein?
What happen to covert operations? Will anyone admit that we invaded IRAQ for the oil and that is why we are still there? Does anyone really believe that we are there for the IRAQI people?? Will anyone admit that the actions by the U.S. were for power and monetary reasons? How many troops have we sent to Kenya? Oh, that right, they don't have any oil.

notadebate   January 30th, 2008 9:22 pm ET

I didn't realize Romney and McCain were the only candidates left…. Why not let the other 2 guys talk??

Logan   January 30th, 2008 9:22 pm ET

This is not the Romney Debate!!!! equal time!

Dan   January 30th, 2008 9:22 pm ET

Let Ron Paul and Huckabee in on the discussions.

Nobunny   January 30th, 2008 9:22 pm ET

Let Ron Paul talk about the economy. He's the ONLY economy expert on the stage!

Ron Rules!   January 30th, 2008 9:22 pm ET

What is this? The McCain -Romney debate? Or Republican debate? If you are going to vote, you need to ask yourself if you want to send your chikdren, relatives, or friends to war? Both Romney and McCain want to send 100,000 more troops! Where are they going to ge these young men and women? Sounds like a draft coming!
Ron Paul is the most intelligent candidate but he doenst get to speak! I will bet you $10 he wins this debate according to the people! 'We the People' will vote for Ron. Do you get it? The press and TV stations do not give him a fair shot! I am voting for Ron! Until the very end!!!

Sandi Harpring   January 30th, 2008 9:22 pm ET

John McCain could be Hilary Clintons running mate – Ask him how many times he voted in line with Clinton on issues.

Kyle   January 30th, 2008 9:22 pm ET

I am not the smartest man in the world but cutting Ron Paul off when he is really upholding the constitution and ansering the real questions is very inconsiderate and not fair to the American People.

Macy   January 30th, 2008 9:22 pm ET

Anyone else tired of McCain and Romney? Huckabee Paul 08′!

Beth   January 30th, 2008 9:22 pm ET

I think that it is a shame that the candidates do not get fair time discussing their views. Some voters are undecided and would like to hear what everyone has to say. It shouldn't be a two person debate, but let's be honest that's what is going on here. I would like to hear more from Ron Paul.

Candi   January 30th, 2008 9:22 pm ET

I don't know about all of ya's but I am tried of the fighting from Rommeny and Mccain

I want to hear from the other two Huckbee and Paul

P.S.   January 30th, 2008 9:22 pm ET

I agree with the poster who said McCain is putting you to sleep. Obama would vaporize this old man.

Gary   January 30th, 2008 9:22 pm ET

McCain has been in Washington for over 20 years……. If he is such a great leader, shouldn't he have something substantial to stand on. He cannot change anything in
Washington. He is part of the problem, not the solution!

Erick   January 30th, 2008 9:22 pm ET

McCain and Romney are acting like children. Ron Paul correctly pointed this out and brought out many salient points about the war that seem to reflect what the American people are thinking. Why are we still in this war? What are we going to "win".

JC   January 30th, 2008 9:22 pm ET

NOT ONE QUESTION ABOUT:
…THE DOLLAR,
…INFLATION,
..THE BOND MARKET, IN PARTICULAR ACKERS LETTER TODAY.
…FURTHER FOMC RATE CUTS NEEDED?
..SUPPORT STIMULUS PACKAGE?

HMMMMM.

Abel   January 30th, 2008 9:22 pm ET

I am not a radical Ron Paulite, though I do agree with him on many things.

Regardless of the candidate, I think they should all be given equal time to talk. Even Huckabee, who I'm not too fond of.

They need to put a stop to McCain and Romney's bickering and politispeak and ask more questions to the other two candidates, be they frontrunners or not.

twink   January 30th, 2008 9:22 pm ET

Here we go. They finially throw Ron and huck a bone. one question and back to the there 2. This is just not fair. CNN – I had hoped you would do a better job. You ask open ended questions to Mccain and Romney. Then you go back and forth w/ them and forget the others at the table.

You need to bounce questions back and forth between Ron and huck for a while.

Christian   January 30th, 2008 9:22 pm ET

McCain is a liar! His partial quote of Romney wanting a timetable and even Anderson calling him on it with the full quote of Romney is only an indication of how dishonest McCain is.

Of course McCain is going to lie and throw political sleaze like he's a clinton at Romney because he has to in order to continue his career – He is done if he doesn't win the race! Romney doesn't – he's already made and has no need to jeopardize his integrity in order to win a political race for a position that he doesn't need in order to continue his life.

David   January 30th, 2008 9:22 pm ET

As usual, this "debate" was McCain and Romney bickering about the same things and Ron Paul getting no time at all. It is disgusting how the media has given him no airtime what-so-ever. Why are they so afraid?

Jason   January 30th, 2008 9:22 pm ET

When you're the frontrunner, it says a lot about your character the way you deal with that, and McCain is being all smug and arrogant. I do not feel he's doing himself any good tonight.

He'll probably be leading in delegates after SuperTuesday, but Romney and Huckabee aren't out of this yet.

I find it so exciting that these two races each have the possibility of going on for months: it finally means that America is really looking hard and carefully this time. Hopefully we'll end up choosing wisely.

I believe all 4 candidates should get equal time. Given equal time, this would rightly be race between Huckabee and Paul, the two most interesting Republican candidates left.

mks   January 30th, 2008 9:22 pm ET

This is pathetic. Had to cough up some cash for Ron Paul. Hope it helps.

Judith   January 30th, 2008 9:22 pm ET

McCain is trying to control the debate….All he does is sideswipe the issues and pat himself on the back all the time…..What an ego….

Gerald Vencius   January 30th, 2008 9:22 pm ET

Senator Mccain, you can lead when people you are leading are "taking orders" but that has nothing to do with the economy and how to make it work.

And I AM TIRED OF HEARING HOW YOU WERE ONE OF THE FOOT SOLDIERS IN THE REGAN REVOLUTION.

Robert D. Richmond VA   January 30th, 2008 9:22 pm ET

"…..when people take actions that cause us to give concern to human rights violations, to opression……."
……..and what is your stance on gay rights mr. huckabee?

Anthony   January 30th, 2008 9:22 pm ET

can the hostess of the online monitoring email me? She's HOT.. loll

BH   January 30th, 2008 9:22 pm ET

CNN … get ready for a 3rd pary run

Frank Hawley   January 30th, 2008 9:22 pm ET

ROMNEY would'nt know how to answer just yes or no!

Heidi   January 30th, 2008 9:20 pm ET

Are any of you listening. McCain is scared and he is twisting Romney's words to try to make us question him. Romney is being unfairly attacked, but he is calling McCain out and McCain can't understand he is not the one. McCain. lead us out of this economy slump…. I doubt it. Romney has a proven recored take a look at what happend to the SLC Olympics when he stepped in. It was a bust till Romney saved it. He will do the same for this country.

TXCon1   January 30th, 2008 9:20 pm ET

Yeah, McShame can lead…lead us right down the path to apathy for all that wants to destroy the US of A!! Oh, and he's sooo full of himself!

KanYon   January 30th, 2008 9:20 pm ET

Ron Paul is the only candidate that speaks clear logic. This man need more speaking time!

Kristoffer Walker   January 30th, 2008 9:20 pm ET

The other candidates would have time to talk if McCain didn't speak so slowly.

ED   January 30th, 2008 9:20 pm ET

WHY ARE WE LIMITING THE QUESTION OF LEADERSHIP TO MCCAIN AND ROMNEY??????????????????????????????????????????

rhondabeaux   January 30th, 2008 9:20 pm ET

UNFAIR Debate.
Shame on CNN and Anderson Cooper.
There are 4 candidates on stage; NOT ONLY TWO!

Undecided   January 30th, 2008 9:20 pm ET

Wow, McCain is turning into Mr. 911 Rudy — that endorsement must've gone to his head. He's answering a question about the economy by talking about his status as a war hero?

Randy   January 30th, 2008 9:20 pm ET

How about equal time for each of the candidates? This is unbelievable!

F U CNN   January 30th, 2008 9:20 pm ET

CNN, your bias is disgusting. Never again will I watch your propaganda.

Dave   January 30th, 2008 9:20 pm ET

Mitt Romney is the most intelligent and inspiring candidate in the debate. Go Mitt!!

Dee   January 30th, 2008 9:20 pm ET

Why didn't you ask Ron Paul about Putin?

We want to hear from ALL of the candidates!

If we'd known this was just going to be the "John & Mitt Show" we might have thought twice.

Brent   January 30th, 2008 9:20 pm ET

I'm sure the largest squadron in the navy has a lot of economic considerations. Well, well … talking about Iraq again when asked a question about the economy. What do prison camps have to do with the economy?

Chris   January 30th, 2008 9:20 pm ET

HERE GOES MCCAIN AGAIN!!! HE IS SAYING THE SAME OLD CRAP ABOUT WHAT HE KNOWS HOW TO DO. HE KEEPS SAYING HE KNOWS, AND HE'S PROUD, WELL GOOD FOR HIM. GIVE A STRAIGHT ANSWER FOR ONCE. DID YOU HEAR THAT LINE ABOUT HIM BEING BETTER FOR THE ECONOMY THAN ROMNEY? IT'S THE SAME OLD CRAP.

Melissa   January 30th, 2008 9:20 pm ET

Give some air time to the left! I planned to watch this debate so that I could learn about all of the candidates… not just McCain and Romney. Why did they even invite the others if they won't let them talk?

Colleen Chapa   January 30th, 2008 9:20 pm ET

AND THEN THERE WERE FOUR. Should be plenty of time now to give the four remaining candidates equal time to speak for themselves and allow the American public to make an informed decision. Unfortunately, some things never change. Looks like you are still bent on keeping RON PAUL and even HUCKABEE now from getting fair air time and instead force-feed us your pre-chosen candidates. You are underestimating the will and spirit of the American People. We don't want you (CNN, FOXNEWS, etc.) pre-selecting our President for us. How insulting.

Parker   January 30th, 2008 9:20 pm ET

She asked McCain about the economy not national security

Justin   January 30th, 2008 9:20 pm ET

CNN is unfair and biased against DEMOCRACY! LET ALL THE CANDIDATES ANSWER! AND GIVE THEM FAIR TIME!!! WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE MEDIA! TRYING TO BRAINWASH THE PUBLIC INTO VOTING!

matt   January 30th, 2008 9:20 pm ET

There goes Mcain agian, that sucking sound is the economy going further down the toilet while he tells us about his military service !

jaso   January 30th, 2008 9:20 pm ET

hE KNOWS HOW TO LEAD OH MY GOSH………lmao

Don B   January 30th, 2008 9:20 pm ET

This is not a debate, it is a CNN commerical for McCain & Romney.

lillian rogers   January 30th, 2008 9:20 pm ET

mcCain will start the draft. all he talks about is how he lead in the war. Of course he is a hero but he will take us to all the hot spots. We need served in this country. Poor Ron Paul. He never gets a break.

tom   January 30th, 2008 9:20 pm ET

McCain has not lead anything in 30 years. He's falling asleep while he speaks.

Talbaine   January 30th, 2008 9:20 pm ET

energy as a way to take over the wolrd? lol! What about when Nikola Tesla's research for free energy was smashed by JP Morgan because there was no "profit" to be made.

Brandon   January 30th, 2008 9:20 pm ET

Anyone who calls Ron Paul crazy obviously does not understand his position. Too bad the media outlets do not provide an even stage for all candidates to layout their policies.

Jeremy   January 30th, 2008 9:20 pm ET

Wow that was a lot of questions to Huckabee, 1 question. Wow don't lie on national tv while hosting a debate.

Drew   January 30th, 2008 9:20 pm ET

This is a debate, not campaign ad! All candidates should get equal time and ANSWER THE QUESTION!! If i had to chose from this debate, McCain and Romney are out, Huckabee's a maybe and Paul is winning…HE (and Huckabee kinda) are the only two who have actually tried to answer the question and not changed it to fit their platforms

Sister James Ann Germuska   January 30th, 2008 9:19 pm ET

I think that gov. Romney is on target. In fact, I do not know how he is able to sit and listen to Sen. McCain go on and on and make no sense. I am a staunch Democrat but should my Dem. candidate not get the nomination I will only vote Rep. if Gov. Romney is the Republican Candidate. As I watch each Rep. debate I grow to respect Gov. Romney more and more and find Sen. McCain more and more disturbing. maybe Church Norris was right about his age!

Thank You,

Sister James Ann Germuska
Brownsville, PA

garry   January 30th, 2008 9:19 pm ET

Mccain good on military, Romney good at economics. Paul for peace. huck for god. what will we do?

Jim   January 30th, 2008 9:19 pm ET

Ok I was wrong, Ron doesn't have the nicest suit & haircut. He can drop out now.

Chad   January 30th, 2008 9:19 pm ET

I agree Penny!

Lets hear what those other jokers have to say on the North American Union eh? Of course they don't want to ask because again Paul would put them to shame.

Nick   January 30th, 2008 9:19 pm ET

so much for the issues, time for the fluff.

C Taylor   January 30th, 2008 9:19 pm ET

The media hogs controls the debates and I'm sick of it. Give equal time to ALL THE CANDIDATES. Quit ignoring RON PAUL. Maybe the MEDIA should pick the next president and leave the American People out of it. Or better yet who is best to pay their way to the presidency. Media hogs but out and let each one debate!!!!!

JW   January 30th, 2008 9:18 pm ET

LET RON PAUL TALK; STOP MUTING HIM!

Midon   January 30th, 2008 9:18 pm ET

For those of you that think we "Ron Paul" supporters are here just complaining about the air time this debate. Why do you think Ron Paul has had so little percentages in voting so far? they never let him speak on TV. He is always cut off. If he was ever aloud to really show his views and what he is going to do for this country, people will like him and will want to vote for him. The media has blacklisted him and never allow him to completely speak.
Heck, look at the Fox Debate! They completely cut him out of that debate and when he called to ask why he wasn't invited, they wouldn't speak to him or return his calls! At least give him fair time to speak. These debates aren't just about Romney and McCain!!!!!

Brad   January 30th, 2008 9:18 pm ET

Where is Ronald Reagan ? We really need him now.

Gina   January 30th, 2008 9:18 pm ET

Romney is clearly the the smartest, most eloquent and most inspiring candidate on that stage…His positions on the issues are stated clearly, and he has the facts to back them up. McCain looks like a fool spewing misinformation about Romney…he needs to get his facts straight…And McCain's policies make him a democrat in republican's clothing…Romney needs to be at the helm in the White House in the pivitol time. He has the most integrity, intelligence and is the most presidential candidate in the debate.

christy usilton   January 30th, 2008 9:18 pm ET

After voting for RP…I will never vote Republican again. These guys are Orcs.

Mary   January 30th, 2008 9:18 pm ET

Why do you let McCain dominate this debate? This is sickening. Why is the topic of illegal immigration being ingored?

Stuart   January 30th, 2008 9:18 pm ET

Here's how it's going to go down: McCain is getting all of the left-wing media love right now while they ignore his horrible voting record, flip-flops, etc. Then when he gets the nomination, they will turn on him like a pack of hungry wolves pointing out how he's not a conservative yada yada yada. McCain is being set up, but he's too blind to see it.

moose   January 30th, 2008 9:18 pm ET

what would the candidates do to cut spending, to scale back the federal gov't and give the freedoms and the choices back to the hands of the people of the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.

Joseph   January 30th, 2008 9:18 pm ET

They should only be able to respond either YES or NO.

Ruth   January 30th, 2008 9:18 pm ET

Senator McCain is once again avoiding directly answering many of the questions. For example, Former Governor Romney pointed out the specific reasons why the Republican conservative core base is unhappy with Senator McCain – Senator McCain did not address one of those carefully articulated concerns but side stepped them all. The moderators let him get away from it every time.

I have noticed in the debates that, typically, the moderators don't challenge Senator McCain. If he throws out a falsehood, it's let go. If he doesn't respond to the question he was asked, they let it slide. I am glad that Governor Romney spoke up tonight against McCain's mischaracterization of his views regarding withdrawal from Iraq, and, that he received some support from one of the moderators. I am disappointed however, that Senator McCain was allowed to have the last word. Governor Romney should have had the last word since the mischaracterization was against him.

Manny   January 30th, 2008 9:18 pm ET

Who cares about a country that cant afford to put a VW engine in a 15 million dollar plane. We need to concentrate on ourselves and our country.

J   January 30th, 2008 9:18 pm ET

I think it's a good idea to ask Ron Paul a question and even the "question field" so to speak.

deb   January 30th, 2008 9:18 pm ET

whether you let Ron Paul speak or not, he is the only honest man on that stage. Why are you afraid to give him credence? It is disgusting to me the way McCain and Romney grin and roll their eyes every time he speaks the truth! The thought of either McCain or Romney being elected scares the life out of me !

Candi   January 30th, 2008 9:18 pm ET

I am voting for Huckbee

Anonymous   January 30th, 2008 9:18 pm ET

there needs to be a time limit. McCain and Romney are having way to much time.

Debbie   January 30th, 2008 9:18 pm ET

Listen to Ron Paul folks. He's the best hope for America. CNN, we can sensor you as well by turning the channel.

leroy   January 30th, 2008 9:18 pm ET

Great HUCK, you said don't engage in the world like Reagan would do. Thanks thats what RON PAUL has said over and over.

Joan   January 30th, 2008 9:18 pm ET

McCain is dishonest, lying, blow hard. About time Romney was able to point out his lies.

Randy Alexis   January 30th, 2008 9:18 pm ET

I am a democrat, I would send my vote to ron right now, They all agree on these issues that are problems with this country but argue about how to fix it rather then discussing an solution.
as with most debates, what a waste.
and Give mike some more air time please.
Randy Alexis

Jonh   January 30th, 2008 9:18 pm ET

Myself and other americans like me, would like to make our own judgement on who the next president should be. Would the media please do their part in asking each candidate equal amount of questions, and also treat them all with the same respect. This is not a popularity contest , and Mc Cain and Romney are not only two people on stage.Anderson do your job .

Annie   January 30th, 2008 9:18 pm ET

I'd like to see everyone answer the questions with time allotted equally. It is only fair that the American people hear each of the candidates who are still in this race. Mr. Romney – you are full of malarky.

Patrick Hansen   January 30th, 2008 9:18 pm ET

Once again the media machine controls and manipulates.

Jenn   January 30th, 2008 9:18 pm ET

Ask real questions please. who comes up with these? what do you see in the russian president's eyes? come on. Romney has no clue about foreign policy. Ron Paul is the only one who can save AMERICA.

SD   January 30th, 2008 9:18 pm ET

I had enough of romney for a month. I wont vote for what the media want me to vote

Wade   January 30th, 2008 9:18 pm ET

"What do you see when you look into the eyes of the russian president?" WHAT KIND OF QUESTION IS THIS? WORRY ABOUT USA YOU YOU CHESS PIECES!!!

ozarkle   January 30th, 2008 9:18 pm ET

Ron Paul won the discusion about Iraq. Romney and Mcain arguing about who waid what when is indeed ridiculous. I have always been a republican but never agreed with the idea to enter Iraq. There was no threat, we had no business going there with our tropps.

Brenda   January 30th, 2008 9:18 pm ET

We need to go back to timed responses. This is rediculous. You just let McCain go on and on and on. Huckabee talks to slow, but at least he's saying something. Romney gives a nice paced well reasoned response. He needs more good questions.

Ron Paul barely got two words out before you skipped over to get more blubbering from McCain.

Bill   January 30th, 2008 9:18 pm ET

Whoever doesn't believe our troops could legitimately be there for 100 years is truly ignorant. We never leave countries. We have troops every where. Go read a book, or just find a way to educate yourself.

Dax   January 30th, 2008 9:18 pm ET

McCain is a lier

Chris   January 30th, 2008 9:18 pm ET

Romney=flipflop
McCain=warwarwar

Chris   January 30th, 2008 9:18 pm ET

I don't understand why McCain thinks that having US troops stationed all around the world is a good thing. We have had US soldiers in South Korea for 50 years… and that's a good thing?

Of course it is true that casualties are the ultimate tragedy, but how about the impact that having US troops in 135 countries on our $9 Trillion debt? It makes no sense!

Miguel   January 30th, 2008 9:18 pm ET

Ron Paul wins! CNN loses!

Alex   January 30th, 2008 9:18 pm ET

This debate should give more debate time to Ron Paul and Huckabee rather than leave McCain and Romney to lead the pack in the debate.

Brian   January 30th, 2008 9:18 pm ET

Thank God they finally let Ron Paul and Huckabee speak, oh boy they asked Romney another question there goes another 15 minutes of the debate!

Chris   January 30th, 2008 9:18 pm ET

ahhhh, see what happens CNN when you let Ron Paul talk? the people LOVE IT! and are you censoring blog entries? even though there are no poddy words being said? typical mainstream media for you!

Kenneth   January 30th, 2008 9:18 pm ET

I think McCrap got drain bamage in NAM….

Athena   January 30th, 2008 9:18 pm ET

Mccain thought Putin was the president of France! Look it up on youtube

Anonymous   January 30th, 2008 9:18 pm ET

Sen McCain and Gov Huckabee cannot even answer a direct question … all they have done is say that the "direct question.."IS NOT REALLY THE QUESTION" and then blow it off and promote their particular viewppoint and " sugarcoat" the subject

I WAS a McCain supporter .. BUT WHEN ROMNEY CHALLENGED MCCAIN ….all McCain did was whine about so-called Negative Ads from Romney ..

SEN. MCCAIN .. ANSWER THE QUESTION DIRECTLY

AND STOP COMPLAINING ..

Gov Romney and Ron Paul are the only two willing to answer question head on .. and Anderson Cooper .. STOP CUTTING OFF RONMEY AND PAUL…
AND STOP ALLOWING MCCAIN AND HUCKABEE OFF THE HOOK !!!

Michael   January 30th, 2008 9:18 pm ET

Good point, Huckbee! It's disgraceful that our National Guard is spending 3 out of 5 years deployment OVERSEAS when their PRIMARY duty is to protect our own soil right here in our borders!

Jerry   January 30th, 2008 9:18 pm ET

here, here.. Huckabee made a very good point.

VOTE RON PAUL 2008   January 30th, 2008 9:18 pm ET

BETTER ASK HUCKABEE AND PAUL ABOUT PUTIN,,,

glen   January 30th, 2008 9:18 pm ET

As a conservative, I will probably sit out the next election since there is not a true conservative in the mix. McCain is down right frightening!!!…tell us the truth about Juan Hernandez Senator?

Here we go again back to the McCain and Romney Show

Zacc
