Obama has raised over $30 million in January.
Obama has raised over $30 million in January.

LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) — Democrat Barack Obama raised $32 million in the month of January alone for his presidential bid, CNN's Candy Crowley confirms.

That total roughly equals his previous best three-month fundraising haul.

The campaign would not divulge how much money it has on hand — a more accurate measure of a campaign's financial health going forward.

A campaign source also tells CNN the Illinois senator received contributions from 170,000 new donors in January.

The Clinton campaign would not indicate how much money it had raised in the same time period.

I am contributing $25 more this month! I have NEVER considered giving to a political campaign, but I believe that Senator Obama will bring this country together to do what is right and not what advances their party.

If you want a Huge "Nanny Government ", Vote for Hilliary and Obahma, I'm sure "The Powers That Be ", have already decided on the ticket for the Democrats. If the Democrat ic ticket wins , it will be more of the same ,corporate America contolling our government. They will tax us into oblivion, and then make us come to their governent run charity programs, to be able to survive. We'll have to forget all about the promised "American Dream "obtainable and paid for with the blood , and peril of our fore-fathers, and mothers, and brave soldiers of today. Let's not let corporate America steal our "American Dream". Vote for someone who is honorable, intelligent, trustworthy, and knows how to lead usin– in the right path, to give us back our stolen freedoms, and honor as a country ,"that does not start unpravoked wars , and is a friend to other nations, He can help us repair our broken economy, and let us keep much more of our hard earned wages. WE ARE HEADED FOR A DEPRESSION", if we don't get Ron Pauls' help. "Don't Blow iT ," VOTE FOR RON PAUL, for President."

Obama shows his true colors!!! Go Hillary…. he is visably upset regarding the comment and the response from the audience that "It may take another Clinton to clean up the 2nd Bush. He is not keeping ground with Hillary.

LisaMpls   January 31st, 2008 7:36 pm ET

Those who claim that Hillary and Bill are racist MAKE ME SICK!!!! You should be ashamed of yourselves. We ALL know that is not true. Your dearly beloved Obama even knows that is not true.

Oi have just tried to donate 200$ more to Obama but the servers are too busy will donate tomorrow.
He was supposed to be blown away by the lean mean Clinton machine by now ,but it looks like hes gaining momentum and winning the hearts and minds of Americans from all walks of life. The more people hear about him the more they like him.
I was a cynic till he won Iowa.
He's right he has showed so much courage, just having the audacity of hope.
Suddenly HRC's win doesn't seem so inevitable, with Boratgate and Clinton the movie playing in a theater near you, i don't think she'll come out looking so hot.
Meanwhile he is energizing the youth and redefining the political landscape, the reason why all the polls are misleading is because he pulls in more first time voters and independents.
Hate him or love him, hes running a great campaign, and i am honored to donate the little i have to someone like him who has the courage to stand up for us.

come on guys! Don't make this a boring Hillary-McCain general. The whole world is is sitting and noticing whats happening. Those guys are not gonna make the world like and support americans. And america needs the support and goodwill given the terrible mess that you guys are in right now.

Ah, the glorious sounds of ignorant Americans dragging their knuckles and parroting the same verbal diarrhea as their favorite political pundits. Truly this is the greatest nation in the world…that is, if you consider widespread inanity to be "great." The greatest failing of this once-great experiment is the fact that it now relies on a stupid, lazy, uninformed electorate that believes in magical sky fairies versus observable scientific fact. Here's a thought, perhaps this country should require an IQ test before you are granted the right to vote. Maybe then the people with a fully-functional brain and the ability to read can ensure that the slack-jawed yokels who voted for Bush twice are never allowed to see the inside of a voting booth again.

Jacob   January 31st, 2008 5:50 pm ET

Go Obama!

Does America really need 24 years of the Bush's & Clinton's? And McCain and Romney is more of the same…

America needs change and we are going to get it!

It's the 32% that still support Bush that are living in a dream world my friend.

john v   January 31st, 2008 5:46 pm ET

I would just be nice if he had some real experience. Talk is nice but he has shown in his Senate votes to not ever take on the tough decision votes.

Dan, TX   January 31st, 2008 5:45 pm ET

Obama vs. McCain. Either way it's better than Hillary. So, if the Hillary supporters vote for McCain. GREAT!!!!!!

But McCain can only win with Hillary's support.

Pam   January 31st, 2008 5:43 pm ET

Hey David the Blackman, this is Pam the white lady.

If you have seen the online donation form for Barack's campaign it clearly indicates the limit on donations is $2300 per person and you are required to attest that you are not representing ANY institution and that you are not donating on behalf of another. I can be cynical at times but I can not imagine that a Christian Church is going to cross those lines. Call me naive, you won't be the first. Call me a white lady with hope for the good of all people and you will be right on.

Obama Mama   January 31st, 2008 5:32 pm ET

For the very first time I have donated to a political candidate. I have made three small donations, and will hopefully make another soon. This is because for the first time in my adult life, I have been inspired in a way that makes me believe we can become the country and people of our ideals. He gives us something to live up to, not to settle for.

I truly pray we elect him to lead our nation.

AJ, IL   January 31st, 2008 5:21 pm ET

Hillary Clinton is not presidential without Bill Clinton at her side. Plain and Simple. All this B.S. about Hillary being EXPERIENCED or having 35 years experience makes me wanna hurl. So Hillary is claiming that since she was 25 years old (coming out of law school) she gained experienced? At What? Being a corporate lawyer for the largest law firm in Arkansas from her time out of law school to the time Bill Clinton ran for the President in 1991. Granted Hillary did a lot of women and children advocate work as First Lady of Arkansas and the US, and still manage to make over $200,000 a year back in the 1980s. That is admirable but not publicly elected office experience.

dee   January 31st, 2008 5:21 pm ET

Obama

your experience. The experience they are talking about is not by definition. They are talking about a Bush period of bitterness, partisan politics. The Bush years have made people bitter to the point of saying you are not experienced / (Bitter) enough because you are not expressing partisan bitterness. Mrs. Maxine Waters said it was Hillary’s policy as to why she endorsed Hillary Clinton. I thought your recent economic stimulus proposal was more on point than any other proposed stimulus plan presented. Representative Walters has had many problems in congress with the GOP and with the Bush administration. Some may vote Hillary because they believe Hillary will be a Bush (Partisan President) for Democrats, in only helping Democrats. As Democrats, we always had a long history of reconciliatory gestures towards the other political parties, building lasting relationships, as a model for governments around the world. It will not be fruitful at this stage for congress and others to back a partisanship government for any reason, especially not for revenge. Democratic Party truly represents the teaching of Christ Jesus. Grace runneth over in paying our debts, as we rightly see the only man. As we remove that beam out of our way, calling itself bitterness, resentment and condemnation. That is not about the American Dream. People want Change that includes all. Now, is the time for courageous thinkers! Many of our Washington Status quo representatives fear a change. Most of their courageous constituents want change that blesses all America. This movement is about healing a nation. With your message, people are starting to see the possibilities that were thought to be impossible.

Change we can believe in

What truly makes me laugh are the posts that compare Obama to the late JFK and how he will magically, through his words of hope and change (an no detailed plans or solutions), transform the nation into Camelot. (LOL)

No one is ever ready to be President. A real leader surrounds himself with experts on each issue he faces. He then listens to the people he represents along with the experts and brings the final decision makers together to work toward appropriate change. If you can not inspire your people and their representatives, you end up a leader like George W. Bush, less of a leader and more like a dictator. Obama can lead and Obama can inspire. What a fabulous combination. He doesn't need a spouce to shape him, he doesn't need a dynasty to unite people. He is ready. Yes we can!!

Let's ask him how he could afford to live in the house he currently owns for 1.6m when even his real estate agent said he couldn't afford it. Oh that's right Mrs. Rescko bought the lot next to him for 650k on the same day. I have nothing to do with Rescko I'm an agent of change "wink wink"…

Brian   January 31st, 2008 5:08 pm ET

Well let's see, where does Obama get his money?

Judicial Watch 10 Most Corrupt Politicians 2007.. Senator Barack Obama (D-IL): A "Dishonorable Mention" last year, Senator Obama moves onto the "ten most wanted" list in 2007. In 2006, it was discovered that Obama was involved in a suspicious real estate deal with an indicted political fundraiser, Antoin "Tony" Rezko. In 2007, more reports surfaced of deeper and suspicious business and political connections It was reported that just two months after he joined the Senate, Obama purchased $50,000 worth of stock in speculative companies whose major investors were his biggest campaign contributors. One of the companies was a biotech concern that benefited from legislation Obama pushed just two weeks after the senator purchased $5,000 of the company's shares. Obama was also nabbed conducting campaign business in his Senate office, a violation of federal law.

Come on folks, this guy is SHADY. Don't jump on the Obama bandwagon when you had never even HEARD of Barack Obama four months ago. Read and learn about the candidates before making your decisions; there is a lot more about Obama that will be coming out in the coming months, for sure.

Come on people, this is too important of an election for now and for our collective future to turn over to an inexperienced freshman senator who has extraordinary talent at inspiring others (you can insert the nouns preacher of cheerleader if you like). He hasn't arrived yet. We need a person of substance to take on our enormous challenges, someone who is solid, cerebral, credentialed, and yes, EXPERIENCED, who can and will restore our nation's policies here at home, as well as our reputation globally as the leader of the free world. This is the kind of CHANGE we need now and in the future.

When will people wake up that we are being spoon fed, from the media, Obama because the Republicans can and will beat him. Just take a little bit of time and see who owns the news stations. You may be amazed at what you find.

So, this is no different and NO CHANGE since the last elections.

I agree with you 100%. If republicans are willing to vote against their party and vice versa THOSE are the people to be concerned about. Don't praise them for seeing "the light" and voting your way, be concerned…VERY CONCERNED!!!

If they will turn on their own party what do you think will happen once they no longer agree with what's being said on the other side? And has anyone thought that republicans voting for Obama is to help him get the mod so they can then jump BACK to the republican side and vote McCain????

Think about it. Obama isn't inspiring anymore hope than the next man or woman. I am very proud of a black man making these strides but that doesn't mean I'll vote black just because. I am a woman also and Hillary's running is just as much hope and inspiration for me as a woman knowing that in corporate politics women (white or black) will face sexism every day of the week FAR WORSE than a black man will face racism…That's the way the world has turned.

Obama is the only hope for this country. Hillary is always talking about her 30 years of experience as a public servant, yet no one can tell me what she actually did besides being married to the former president. First Lady IS NOT A GOVERNMENT OFFICE, it is a social title given to the wife of a president as a form of respect. I don't dislike Hillary, but I like Barack better. I feel that he has the vison and the respect to not only unite the country, but to bring back America's status throughout the world. The world is watching us, they want to see that it's citizens are tired of the status quo and desire real change. Hillary is apart of the old establishment!!! VOTE FOR OBAMA!!!!!

I will believe that white America is ready for a biracial candidate when I see the number on February 6, 2008. I am still not convinced. I would love to see it happen, but I am around several whites who hate the Clintons but do not intend on voting for Obama. … so my concern is this. .. Are the Republicans pushing Obama to simply line up behind the Republican candidate if Obama gets the Democractice nod. … I remember all the Carl Rove tricks of the past eight years. … I also remember the "Willie Horton" ads during the 80s. Like him or not, Bill Clinton made a great deal of sense when he stated that Jesse Jackson won SC in 84 and 88. I remember both years, I voted for Jesse in 84, but did not in 88 because of how white America just off the wagon when they thought a black candidate might get the nomination in 84. Maybe this is different, maybe Jesse Jackson was too black (if there is such a measurement), Maybe because Obama is half white, he is not so intimidating to white America. … who knows. .. Hopefully the picuture will be much clearer on February 6. … maybe then my faith in the growth of white America will have different. … until then. … I am tired of losing to the Republicans. … so I am leaning toward Clinton. … why you may ask? They have never lost a Presidential election and I made more money during the Clinton years than I did during the run of Bush 1 and Bush 2. I am just a afraid that Obama will be another Jimmy Carter. .. a real nice person with some real inspirational words. … but just like Carter had to to learn. … Obama will also learn the people in the Senate and House waiting for the new president did not run on his platform of Change. …

Here's a very scary announcement;
Obama was just rated the most liberal senator of 2007, moving up 9 spots from last year. Hello higher taxes and more government control!! Oh yeah, he's supports increase in taxes! Put someone in office who wants to increase taxes, the economy will tank for sure. Here's another interesting fact, Obama and Hillary only voted different from each other 10 times out of 267 votes last year and yet they can still do nothing but fight about how much better one is than the other. This shows their political maturity level. Not sure how either one of them voted 267 times when they haven't been doing their job for over a year now. Neither one of them would get anything done if they became president because all they want to do is make people think they are always right and nobody else is unless they agree with them. That will help our already 'do nothing' congress and senate get anything done.

Now the 'best' Democratic candidate has just quit. Edwards is probably the only Democrat that would have gotten anything done. Democrats are going to keep themselves out of office because most people are going to get tired of listening to the two of them argue all the time instead of actually trying to make a case on what they will do to fix it.

Go anyone other than Obama or Hillary '08!!!

Scott, Atlanta   January 31st, 2008 3:34 pm ET

I think the debate tonight will clearly show who our next President will be. One on one, Barack won't be able to hide behind "Yes We Cans" all night.

Senator Clinton has put forth real solutions to the country's problems, put forth plans to pay for them, and how she plans to get them accomplished. Mr. Obama hasn't answered a single question straight forward in a debate without changing the subject.

We all saw first hand how voting for "likable" but inexperienced George Bush turned out. Which is all the more amazing that all those calling for change want to repeat another 8 years of a President-in-Training.

Obama may have charisma but I need much more substance in a President. All you see in every post from any Obama supporter is “…but he’s gonna bring us change and unite the country.” Not one can say how Obama plans to do this because they don’t know. They just know he promises to bring it and if we just believe, it’ll happen. While Mr. Obama runs through the flowers in Hopeland, I’ll be voting for someone who can get the job done as President, not Motivational Speaker. This is our economy, our welfare, our national security, and our future we are voting for - not Prom King.

Can't wait until Hillary runs the board on Super Tuesady!

Dem08   January 31st, 2008 3:33 pm ET

Republicans are voting for Obama because they are scared of Hillary. I have several friends who admitted they voted in our democratic primary for that reason. They feel Obama is easier to beat.

Money can not buy and election. If it could Mitt would be the front-runner.

Jay   January 31st, 2008 3:33 pm ET

"Why are people saying they don't want any Clintons in the White House? Have you forgotten what life was like before Bush?? The "Clintons" balanced the budget people! HELLO!!"

NO, the taxes from dot.coms balanced the budget (Cisco, 3Com, Intel, etc.), Clinton just road its coat tails…

Did Delko give poor little Obama some money for MUCH MORE in return????

B.K.Armstrong   January 31st, 2008 3:32 pm ET

Ok people-the media bias against Hillary Clinton argument has REALLY gotten old! All the comments like "affirmative action money","quota system" calling him by his middle name, all of that stuff that you Hillary supporters are doing is the main reason people such as myself are donating to this campaign. People who think like you are dinosaurs. Make way for the Obama train!!!! By the way can someone tell Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton there is no room on the bandwagon!! As an African-American man I thank you for your fight in the civil rights movement and beyond but it's a new day!! We don't need "black leaders". We need someone who can lead this country so that our children can have a share of the American Dream and what better example than Sen.Obama.
YES WE CAN!!!!!!!!

Bob   January 31st, 2008 3:32 pm ET

Wow Tony Rezko really does have deep pockets doesn't he?

Hillary fan in California   January 31st, 2008 3:30 pm ET

CNN, you are so biased! When was the last time you had a positive article on anyone but Obama? I am so sick of your one-sided reporting! You people who think that charisma will run the country had better think again! It will take more than that!

I am black and will NOT vote for Obama - he is not ready for this huge role, but there are so many black people who will vote for him just because he is black. Give me a break! All of you need to wake up and smell something!

And CNN, do not leave my comment in moderation as you've done so many times before! Learn to take criticism!

Lucas, Nashville TN   January 31st, 2008 3:30 pm ET

CHA-CHING!

Now let's turn that into some Clinton-trouncing in these next weeks!

Cheyanne   January 31st, 2008 3:29 pm ET

I have never been involved in the political process before but, Senator Obama has ignited the fire in me to get involved! I have visited/researched each candidate's website and looked at the issues and their proposals. What I am realistic about is that no matter who becomes president, change will not come overnight. No one can fix in 1-2 years what President Bush has made a mess of in his 8 years in office. I urge all voters to research each candidate's records to see where they stand on the issues to make a determination. The internet has a wealth of information i.e, factcheck.org and I urge you to think critically befor you vote on February 5th. Do not let the media elect the next president of the United States.

Obama keeps touting that he has superior judgment but if that is the case then how can he explain the fact that HE GOT INVOLVED WITH REZKO WHEN HE KNEW REZKO WAS BEING INVESTIGATED??? Now he admits it was a "BONEHEADED MISTAKE"— so how can he say that he is the president who will get it right on DAY 1 when this clearly shows POOR JUDGMENT????

The hype will quickly die when he gets into office and has to deal with the war in Iraq, Afghanistan and possibly a war with Iran and N. Korea. He will have to deal with border security back home and struggling economy. He will also have to deal with healthcare and U.S. dependency on foreign oil amongst other things. And since he is a trainee on the job running the most powerful country in the world, we may be sorry.

Being a democrat it is amazing to see how the Obama supporters love to spin and hate yet wait for hope and change just like their all talk no action candidate does.He would be better off in the Illinois state house and they should send him back when he learns to accept responsibility of his votes, decides to actually cast votes or at least press the right buttons!Maybe old Teddy can help him with that.Obama is now happy to parade with someone whodefines status quo.
His campaign is as arrogant as the media is stupid in taking in every thing that they dish.I am a Hillary supporter going for McCain if this so called change agent gets our nomination.

$32 million in one month! that is awesome especially considering that it probably came from small donations from ordinary folks and not from a series of high powered, $3,000 a pop events ala the Clintons. This truly shows how Obama is able to bring new participants into the political process.

Hillary Clinton

Failed the BAR exam, not once, but twice

She tried to fix healthcare, with her husband in office and a Democratic Congress, it turned out to be a complete failure and it wasted millions and millions of taxpayer dollars.

HIllary takes more money from lobbyist than any other candidate. Hillary and Bill have been under criminal investigations numerous times.

Bill Clinton lied to every single American, under oath.

HIllary Clinton couldn't even keep her husband faithful, and this is the person who's supposed to unite the country?

He will, of course, lose the nomination because the only thing(s) he has going for him are: hope, change, unity… the man is a dime-a-dozen teenage preacher with absolutely no substance, experience or judgement…

I do hope that you folks realize that once he loses the nomination, the monies you folks gave him will all go to the Democratic Party - its a rule - and will then support Hillary Rodham Clinton in the General Election.

Please dig deep and give as much as you can, borrow on your next pay-check, morgage your home; I want to see a good fight between Clinton & McCain.

To all the Obama supporters thank you for all the insperation on this board today. The same happines that you feel by being part of that 170,000 people who donated to Obama, I want to have that same pride in my voice.

To all the Hilary supporters please dont say anything negative about Obama until you look into how your candidate raises her money. I really believe in this candidate and will not vote in the general election for president if Hillary is our nominee without Barack as VP! She does not inspire me and I don't feel McCain will be that bad, he is more desirable to me than the Clintons! My three college age children will caucus for the first time in their young lives! Lili   January 31st, 2008 2:09 pm ET

I hear the words "Hope" and "Change", but I still haven't heard any substance
from Obama. I cannot in good conscience give money to someone who has
nothing to say about what he is going to do when and/or if he should become
president. I personally find Obama to be arrogant and pompous and the direct
snub (and it was a snub no matter how he tries to say it wasn't) he gave to Hillary
at the State of the Union the other night let me know I did not want a person like this to be my president. To all those democrats who say they would vote for McCain over Hillary, you are not true to your Party. It would make more sense for
you to vote for no-one than to give your vote to another War Monger who will carry on the Bush Legacy of war, poverty, unemployment and recession. It is so easy for people to bash Hillary and Bill, but you can't deny the fact that this country was
in far better shape when Bill Clinton left than it will be when George Bush leaves office. Bill Clinton left with a huge surplus; George Bush will leave enough debt
for your childern's children's children to pay off.

My vote goes for Hillary…but if Obama gets the nod, I'll support him because I
am a true democrat, not a fly by night because I don't like him.

I am 37 years old and a 5th generation of registered, voting Republicans in my family. I voted for (W) Bush twice and think Reagan was the best president of our time.

I just received my bumper stickers in the mail today and I am excited… they read:

REPUBLICANS FOR OBAMA

I am proud to have donated to this calling that we all should hear and heed well. I will certainly cross the aisle this election for President and vote Obama over any republican candidate. If Hillary wins, then I go back to my Republican roots.

Democrats… do yourselves a favor and guarantee our future by embracing Obama. I am one of thousands of Republicans that will vote for either Obama or Republican as second choice. That is because Obama is not the Democrat vote… he is the American vote!

I am in Florida and I am not complaining… it is our own fault for electing officials that made these decisions for us.

Before health care, ethics legislation, education and immigration, a President's job is to protect the American people, that is his/her MAIN job. Why would anyone risk putting a novice in the Oval Office (such as GWB) all because you like the way he speaks?

Go Obama! I have never made a contribution before but $100 is well spent. Lets have a change America. Bush Clinton Clinton Bush Bush ?Clinton + Clinton. What are you kidding! 35 years of experience including 10 married to the President. I can't name one issue that Hillary has led the charge and achieved anything for this country. Time for new blood and some drive. Go Obama!

Awesome!!! I think it this outpouring of support for Obama is due to his message of hope and change. The media and Hillarites are trying to paint him as a black candidate when it's not about that at all. I think he can engage on the issues as well as motivate people to change.

$32 million in one month, what does that mean?

It means there is going to be a whole lot of sore losers when Hillary wins.

GO HILLARY!!!

stop throwing away your money. most whites wont vote for Obama! if you waste your primary vote and vote for Obama and some how, though a dream, he is the nominee, then count on another for years of Republican rule. Hillary is the only fighter left…Hillary '08

Just imagine how much money would be raised for Obama if Black (leaders) politicians were supporting him. A grave shame.

I've never contributed to a Presidential campaign in my 50 years, until now. Despite being disabled and having a very limited income, I donated to Sen. Obama. I'm delighted to see so many of us putting our money where our hope is.

go Obama! You have my vote!

Chris   January 31st, 2008 1:30 pm ET

My own Chris is not same as the first one in these comments. It is the second one with the lengthier comment. I think I should start distinguishing by stating my name as Chris N. Folks please take note.

So what Obama raised 32 million…. Telling people how much money you have raised won't make a difference in who will win.. Mrs. Hillary Rodham Clinton will win the nomination… Sometimes I think the media is employed by the Obama camp… I think Obama have paid CNN and MSNBC most of that 32 million… The media needs to stop making Obama look like an angel… BECAUSE HE IS NOT…..

namata   January 31st, 2008 1:27 pm ET

Some one said "President Obama"???? NOT YET BUDDY. NOT EVEN THE MONEY IS GOING TO DO IT OR ELSE MITT ROMNEY WOULD NOT BE STRUGGLING IN THE REPUBLICAN RACE.

PLEASE WATCH THE DEBATES TONIGHT AND SEE WHO IS SMART, ARTICULATE, ON TOP OF THINGS BETWEEN THE TWO OF THEM.

SOMEONE IS GOING TO STRUTER ON TO THE STAGE AND START TALKING ABOUT STATUS QUO, HOPE, CHANGE , YES WE CAN, BLAH BLAH BLAH!!!!!!!!

LISTEN CAREFULLY

the coverage that CNN is giving to Obama is troublesome to me. I like both candiates, but CNN is unfairly giving positive news about Obama. It's not balanced and honestly CNN needs to just stick to the candidates positions and policies. This is a disturbing trend in the media. It's become like Fox News.

Kevin

I'm an oldie and am convincing other 'OLDIES' to go OBAMA. I saw his worth in 2004 at the Demo convention. He is our JFK RFK returned. Don't make it a race between the young and the old. United we stand

He's steamrollin! Obama certainly had the support of a good number of people here in Denver yesterday at his rally!

John S.   January 31st, 2008 1:25 pm ET

I'm really not much into polictics and I don't understand why many people are so anti Clinton. Many people say that if we vote for Hilary we are voting for Bill. Well things were pretty good for me in the 90's, what was it that Bill did that was so bad? Plus things can't get any worse that what Bush has done as far as I can see.
