Obama has raised over $30 million in January.
Obama has raised over $30 million in January.

LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) - Democrat Barack Obama raised $32 million in the month of January alone for his presidential bid, CNN's Candy Crowley confirms.

That total roughly equals his previous best three-month fundraising haul.

The campaign would not divulge how much money it has on hand - a more accurate measure of a campaign's financial health going forward.

A campaign source also tells CNN the Illinois senator received contributions from 170,000 new donors in January.

The Clinton campaign would not indicate how much money it had raised in the same time period.

I am contributing $25 more this month! I have NEVER considered giving to a political campaign, but I believe that Senator Obama will bring this country together to do what is right and not what advances their party.

If you want a Huge "Nanny Government ", Vote for Hilliary and Obahma, I'm sure "The Powers That Be ", have already decided on the ticket for the Democrats. If the Democrat ic ticket wins , it will be more of the same ,corporate America contolling our government. They will tax us into oblivion, and then make us come to their governent run charity programs, to be able to survive. We'll have to forget all about the promised "American Dream "obtainable and paid for with the blood , and peril of our fore-fathers, and mothers, and brave soldiers of today. Let's not let corporate America steal our "American Dream". Vote for someone who is honorable, intelligent, trustworthy, and knows how to lead usin– in the right path, to give us back our stolen freedoms, and honor as a country ,"that does not start unpravoked wars , and is a friend to other nations, He can help us repair our broken economy, and let us keep much more of our hard earned wages. WE ARE HEADED FOR A DEPRESSION", if we don't get Ron Pauls' help. "Don't Blow iT ," VOTE FOR RON PAUL, for President."

Obama shows his true colors!!! Go Hillary.... he is visably upset regarding the comment and the response from the audience that "It may take another Clinton to clean up the 2nd Bush. He is not keeping ground with Hillary.

LisaMpls   January 31st, 2008 7:36 pm ET

Those who claim that Hillary and Bill are racist MAKE ME SICK!!!! You should be ashamed of yourselves. We ALL know that is not true. Your dearly beloved Obama even knows that is not true.

Oi have just tried to donate 200$ more to Obama but the servers are too busy will donate tomorrow.
He was supposed to be blown away by the lean mean Clinton machine by now ,but it looks like hes gaining momentum and winning the hearts and minds of Americans from all walks of life. The more people hear about him the more they like him.
I was a cynic till he won Iowa.
He's right he has showed so much courage, just having the audacity of hope.
Suddenly HRC's win doesn't seem so inevitable, with Boratgate and Clinton the movie playing in a theater near you, i don't think she'll come out looking so hot.
Meanwhile he is energizing the youth and redefining the political landscape, the reason why all the polls are misleading is because he pulls in more first time voters and independents.
Hate him or love him, hes running a great campaign, and i am honored to donate the little i have to someone like him who has the courage to stand up for us.

Ah, the glorious sounds of ignorant Americans dragging their knuckles and parroting the same verbal diarrhea as their favorite political pundits. Truly this is the greatest nation in the world...that is, if you consider widespread inanity to be "great." The greatest failing of this once-great experiment is the fact that it now relies on a stupid, lazy, uninformed electorate that believes in magical sky fairies versus observable scientific fact. Here's a thought, perhaps this country should require an IQ test before you are granted the right to vote. Maybe then the people with a fully-functional brain and the ability to read can ensure that the slack-jawed yokels who voted for Bush twice are never allowed to see the inside of a voting booth again.

Jacob   January 31st, 2008 5:50 pm ET

Go Obama!

Does America really need 24 years of the Bush's & Clinton's? And McCain and Romney is more of the same...

America needs change and we are going to get it!

It's the 32% that still support Bush that are living in a dream world my friend.

john v   January 31st, 2008 5:46 pm ET

I would just be nice if he had some real experience. Talk is nice but he has shown in his Senate votes to not ever take on the tough decision votes.

Dan, TX   January 31st, 2008 5:45 pm ET

Obama vs. McCain. Either way it's better than Hillary. So, if the Hillary supporters vote for McCain. GREAT!!!!!!

But McCain can only win with Hillary's support.

Pam   January 31st, 2008 5:43 pm ET

Hey David the Blackman, this is Pam the white lady.

If you have seen the online donation form for Barack's campaign it clearly indicates the limit on donations is $2300 per person and you are required to attest that you are not representing ANY institution and that you are not donating on behalf of another. I can be cynical at times but I can not imagine that a Christian Church is going to cross those lines. Call me naive, you won't be the first. Call me a white lady with hope for the good of all people and you will be right on.

Obama Mama   January 31st, 2008 5:32 pm ET

For the very first time I have donated to a political candidate. I have made three small donations, and will hopefully make another soon. This is because for the first time in my adult life, I have been inspired in a way that makes me believe we can become the country and people of our ideals. He gives us something to live up to, not to settle for.

I truly pray we elect him to lead our nation.

AJ, IL   January 31st, 2008 5:21 pm ET

Hillary Clinton is not presidential without Bill Clinton at her side. Plain and Simple. All this B.S. about Hillary being EXPERIENCED or having 35 years experience makes me wanna hurl. So Hillary is claiming that since she was 25 years old (coming out of law school) she gained experienced? At What? Being a corporate lawyer for the largest law firm in Arkansas from her time out of law school to the time Bill Clinton ran for the President in 1991. Granted Hillary did a lot of women and children advocate work as First Lady of Arkansas and the US, and still manage to make over $200,000 a year back in the 1980s. That is admirable but not publicly elected office experience.

dee   January 31st, 2008 5:21 pm ET

Obama

your experience. The experience they are talking about is not by definition. They are talking about a Bush period of bitterness, partisan politics. The Bush years have made people bitter to the point of saying you are not experienced / (Bitter) enough because you are not expressing partisan bitterness. Mrs. Maxine Waters said it was Hillary’s policy as to why she endorsed Hillary Clinton. I thought your recent economic stimulus proposal was more on point than any other proposed stimulus plan presented. Representative Walters has had many problems in congress with the GOP and with the Bush administration. Some may vote Hillary because they believe Hillary will be a Bush (Partisan President) for Democrats, in only helping Democrats. As Democrats, we always had a long history of reconciliatory gestures towards the other political parties, building lasting relationships, as a model for governments around the world. It will not be fruitful at this stage for congress and others to back a partisanship government for any reason, especially not for revenge. Democratic Party truly represents the teaching of Christ Jesus. Grace runneth over in paying our debts, as we rightly see the only man. As we remove that beam out of our way, calling itself bitterness, resentment and condemnation. That is not about the American Dream. People want Change that includes all. Now, is the time for courageous thinkers! Many of our Washington Status quo representatives fear a change. Most of their courageous constituents want change that blesses all America. This movement is about healing a nation. With your message, people are starting to see the possibilities that were thought to be impossible.

Change we can believe in

What truly makes me laugh are the posts that compare Obama to the late JFK and how he will magically, through his words of hope and change (an no detailed plans or solutions), transform the nation into Camelot. (LOL)

No one is ever ready to be President. A real leader surrounds himself with experts on each issue he faces. He then listens to the people he represents along with the experts and brings the final decision makers together to work toward appropriate change. If you can not inspire your people and their representatives, you end up a leader like George W. Bush, less of a leader and more like a dictator. Obama can lead and Obama can inspire. What a fabulous combination. He doesn't need a spouce to shape him, he doesn't need a dynasty to unite people. He is ready. Yes we can!!

Let's ask him how he could afford to live in the house he currently owns for 1.6m when even his real estate agent said he couldn't afford it. Oh that's right Mrs. Rescko bought the lot next to him for 650k on the same day. I have nothing to do with Rescko I'm an agent of change "wink wink"…

Brian   January 31st, 2008 5:08 pm ET

Well let's see, where does Obama get his money?

Judicial Watch 10 Most Corrupt Politicians 2007.. Senator Barack Obama (D-IL): A "Dishonorable Mention" last year, Senator Obama moves onto the "ten most wanted" list in 2007. In 2006, it was discovered that Obama was involved in a suspicious real estate deal with an indicted political fundraiser, Antoin "Tony" Rezko. In 2007, more reports surfaced of deeper and suspicious business and political connections It was reported that just two months after he joined the Senate, Obama purchased $50,000 worth of stock in speculative companies whose major investors were his biggest campaign contributors. One of the companies was a biotech concern that benefited from legislation Obama pushed just two weeks after the senator purchased $5,000 of the company's shares. Obama was also nabbed conducting campaign business in his Senate office, a violation of federal law.

Come on folks, this guy is SHADY. Don't jump on the Obama bandwagon when you had never even HEARD of Barack Obama four months ago. Read and learn about the candidates before making your decisions; there is a lot more about Obama that will be coming out in the coming months, for sure.

Come on people, this is too important of an election for now and for our collective future to turn over to an inexperienced freshman senator who has extraordinary talent at inspiring others (you can insert the nouns preacher of cheerleader if you like). He hasn't arrived yet. We need a person of substance to take on our enormous challenges, someone who is solid, cerebral, credentialed, and yes, EXPERIENCED, who can and will restore our nation's policies here at home, as well as our reputation globally as the leader of the free world. This is the kind of CHANGE we need now and in the future.

When will people wake up that we are being spoon fed, from the media, Obama because the Republicans can and will beat him. Just take a little bit of time and see who owns the news stations. You may be amazed at what you find.

So, this is no different and NO CHANGE since the last elections.

I agree with you 100%. If republicans are willing to vote against their party and vice versa THOSE are the people to be concerned about. Don't praise them for seeing "the light" and voting your way, be concerned...VERY CONCERNED!!!

If they will turn on their own party what do you think will happen once they no longer agree with what's being said on the other side? And has anyone thought that republicans voting for Obama is to help him get the mod so they can then jump BACK to the republican side and vote McCain????

Think about it. Obama isn't inspiring anymore hope than the next man or woman. I am very proud of a black man making these strides but that doesn't mean I'll vote black just because. I am a woman also and Hillary's running is just as much hope and inspiration for me as a woman knowing that in corporate politics women (white or black) will face sexism every day of the week FAR WORSE than a black man will face racism...That's the way the world has turned.

Obama is the only hope for this country. Hillary is always talking about her 30 years of experience as a public servant, yet no one can tell me what she actually did besides being married to the former president. First Lady IS NOT A GOVERNMENT OFFICE, it is a social title given to the wife of a president as a form of respect. I don't dislike Hillary, but I like Barack better. I feel that he has the vison and the respect to not only unite the country, but to bring back America's status throughout the world. The world is watching us, they want to see that it's citizens are tired of the status quo and desire real change. Hillary is apart of the old establishment!!! VOTE FOR OBAMA!!!!!

I will believe that white America is ready for a biracial candidate when I see the number on February 6, 2008. I am still not convinced. I would love to see it happen, but I am around several whites who hate the Clintons but do not intend on voting for Obama. ... so my concern is this. .. Are the Republicans pushing Obama to simply line up behind the Republican candidate if Obama gets the Democractice nod. ... I remember all the Carl Rove tricks of the past eight years. ... I also remember the "Willie Horton" ads during the 80s. Like him or not, Bill Clinton made a great deal of sense when he stated that Jesse Jackson won SC in 84 and 88. I remember both years, I voted for Jesse in 84, but did not in 88 because of how white America just off the wagon when they thought a black candidate might get the nomination in 84. Maybe this is different, maybe Jesse Jackson was too black (if there is such a measurement), Maybe because Obama is half white, he is not so intimidating to white America. ... who knows. .. Hopefully the picuture will be much clearer on February 6. ... maybe then my faith in the growth of white America will have different. ... until then. ... I am tired of losing to the Republicans. ... so I am leaning toward Clinton. ... why you may ask? They have never lost a Presidential election and I made more money during the Clinton years than I did during the run of Bush 1 and Bush 2. I am just a afraid that Obama will be another Jimmy Carter. .. a real nice person with some real inspirational words. ... but just like Carter had to to learn. ... Obama will also learn the people in the Senate and House waiting for the new president did not run on his platform of Change. ...

Here's a very scary announcement;
Obama was just rated the most liberal senator of 2007, moving up 9 spots from last year. Hello higher taxes and more government control!! Oh yeah, he's supports increase in taxes! Put someone in office who wants to increase taxes, the economy will tank for sure. Here's another interesting fact, Obama and Hillary only voted different from each other 10 times out of 267 votes last year and yet they can still do nothing but fight about how much better one is than the other. This shows their political maturity level. Not sure how either one of them voted 267 times when they haven't been doing their job for over a year now. Neither one of them would get anything done if they became president because all they want to do is make people think they are always right and nobody else is unless they agree with them. That will help our already 'do nothing' congress and senate get anything done.

Now the 'best' Democratic candidate has just quit. Edwards is probably the only Democrat that would have gotten anything done. Democrats are going to keep themselves out of office because most people are going to get tired of listening to the two of them argue all the time instead of actually trying to make a case on what they will do to fix it.

Go anyone other than Obama or Hillary '08!!!

Scott, Atlanta   January 31st, 2008 3:34 pm ET

I think the debate tonight will clearly show who our next President will be. One on one, Barack won't be able to hide behind "Yes We Cans" all night.

Senator Clinton has put forth real solutions to the country's problems, put forth plans to pay for them, and how she plans to get them accomplished. Mr. Obama hasn't answered a single question straight forward in a debate without changing the subject.

We all saw first hand how voting for "likable" but inexperienced George Bush turned out. Which is all the more amazing that all those calling for change want to repeat another 8 years of a President-in-Training.

Obama may have charisma but I need much more substance in a President. All you see in every post from any Obama supporter is “...but he’s gonna bring us change and unite the country.” Not one can say how Obama plans to do this because they don’t know. They just know he promises to bring it and if we just believe, it’ll happen. While Mr. Obama runs through the flowers in Hopeland, I’ll be voting for someone who can get the job done as President, not Motivational Speaker. This is our economy, our welfare, our national security, and our future we are voting for – not Prom King.

Can't wait until Hillary runs the board on Super Tuesady!

Dem08   January 31st, 2008 3:33 pm ET

Republicans are voting for Obama because they are scared of Hillary. I have several friends who admitted they voted in our democratic primary for that reason. They feel Obama is easier to beat.

Money can not buy and election. If it could Mitt would be the front-runner.

Jay   January 31st, 2008 3:33 pm ET

"Why are people saying they don't want any Clintons in the White House? Have you forgotten what life was like before Bush?? The "Clintons" balanced the budget people! HELLO!!"

NO, the taxes from dot.coms balanced the budget (Cisco, 3Com, Intel, etc.), Clinton just road its coat tails...

Did Delko give poor little Obama some money for MUCH MORE in return????

B.K.Armstrong   January 31st, 2008 3:32 pm ET

Ok people-the media bias against Hillary Clinton argument has REALLY gotten old! All the comments like "affirmative action money","quota system" calling him by his middle name, all of that stuff that you Hillary supporters are doing is the main reason people such as myself are donating to this campaign. People who think like you are dinosaurs. Make way for the Obama train!!!! By the way can someone tell Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton there is no room on the bandwagon!! As an African-American man I thank you for your fight in the civil rights movement and beyond but it's a new day!! We don't need "black leaders". We need someone who can lead this country so that our children can have a share of the American Dream and what better example than Sen.Obama.
YES WE CAN!!!!!!!!

Wow Tony Rezko really does have deep pockets doesn't he?

Hillary fan in California   January 31st, 2008 3:30 pm ET

CNN, you are so biased! When was the last time you had a positive article on anyone but Obama? I am so sick of your one-sided reporting! You people who think that charisma will run the country had better think again! It will take more than that!

I am black and will NOT vote for Obama – he is not ready for this huge role, but there are so many black people who will vote for him just because he is black. Give me a break! All of you need to wake up and smell something!

And CNN, do not leave my comment in moderation as you've done so many times before! Learn to take criticism!

Lucas, Nashville TN   January 31st, 2008 3:30 pm ET

CHA-CHING!

Now let's turn that into some Clinton-trouncing in these next weeks!

Cheyanne   January 31st, 2008 3:29 pm ET

I have never been involved in the political process before but, Senator Obama has ignited the fire in me to get involved! I have visited/researched each candidate's website and looked at the issues and their proposals. What I am realistic about is that no matter who becomes president, change will not come overnight. No one can fix in 1-2 years what President Bush has made a mess of in his 8 years in office. I urge all voters to research each candidate's records to see where they stand on the issues to make a determination. The internet has a wealth of information i.e, factcheck.org and I urge you to think critically befor you vote on February 5th. Do not let the media elect the next president of the United States.

Now he admits it was a "BONEHEADED MISTAKE"- so how can he say that he is the president who will get it right on DAY 1 when this clearly shows POOR JUDGMENT????

The hype will quickly die when he gets into office and has to deal with the war in Iraq, Afghanistan and possibly a war with Iran and N. Korea. He will have to deal with border security back home and struggling economy. He will also have to deal with healthcare and U.S. dependency on foreign oil amongst other things. And since he is a trainee on the job running the most powerful country in the world, we may be sorry.

Being a democrat it is amazing to see how the Obama supporters love to spin and hate yet wait for hope and change just like their all talk no action candidate does.He would be better off in the Illinois state house and they should send him back when he learns to accept responsibility of his votes, decides to actually cast votes or at least press the right buttons!Maybe old Teddy can help him with that.Obama is now happy to parade with someone whodefines status quo.
His campaign is as arrogant as the media is stupid in taking in every thing that they dish.I am a Hillary supporter going for McCain if this so called change agent gets our nomination.

$32 million in one month! that is awesome especially considering that it probably came from small donations from ordinary folks and not from a series of high powered, $3,000 a pop events ala the Clintons. This truly shows how Obama is able to bring new participants into the political process.

Hillary Clinton

Failed the BAR exam, not once, but twice

She tried to fix healthcare, with her husband in office and a Democratic Congress, it turned out to be a complete failure and it wasted millions and millions of taxpayer dollars.

HIllary takes more money from lobbyist than any other candidate. Hillary and Bill have been under criminal investigations numerous times.

Bill Clinton lied to every single American, under oath.

HIllary Clinton couldn't even keep her husband faithful, and this is the person who's supposed to unite the country?

He will, of course, lose the nomination because the only thing(s) he has going for him are: hope, change, unity... the man is a dime-a-dozen teenage preacher with absolutely no substance, experience or judgement...

I do hope that you folks realize that once he loses the nomination, the monies you folks gave him will all go to the Democratic Party – its a rule – and will then support Hillary Rodham Clinton in the General Election.

Please dig deep and give as much as you can, borrow on your next pay-check, morgage your home; I want to see a good fight between Clinton & McCain.

To all the Hilary supporters please dont say anything negative about Obama until you look into how your candidate raises her money. I really believe in this candidate and will not vote in the general election for president if Hillary is our nominee without Barack as VP! She does not inspire me and I don't feel McCain will be that bad, he is more desirable to me than the Clintons! My three college age children will caucus for the first time in their young lives! Lili   January 31st, 2008 2:09 pm ET

I hear the words "Hope" and "Change", but I still haven't heard any substance
from Obama. I cannot in good conscience give money to someone who has
nothing to say about what he is going to do when and/or if he should become
president. I personally find Obama to be arrogant and pompous and the direct
snub (and it was a snub no matter how he tries to say it wasn't) he gave to Hillary
at the State of the Union the other night let me know I did not want a person like this to be my president. To all those democrats who say they would vote for McCain over Hillary, you are not true to your Party. It would make more sense for
you to vote for no-one than to give your vote to another War Monger who will carry on the Bush Legacy of war, poverty, unemployment and recession. It is so easy for people to bash Hillary and Bill, but you can't deny the fact that this country was
in far better shape when Bill Clinton left than it will be when George Bush leaves office. Bill Clinton left with a huge surplus; George Bush will leave enough debt
for your childern's children's children to pay off.

My vote goes for Hillary...but if Obama gets the nod, I'll support him because I
am a true democrat, not a fly by night because I don't like him.

I am 37 years old and a 5th generation of registered, voting Republicans in my family. I voted for (W) Bush twice and think Reagan was the best president of our time.

I just received my bumper stickers in the mail today and I am excited... they read:

REPUBLICANS FOR OBAMA

I am proud to have donated to this calling that we all should hear and heed well. I will certainly cross the aisle this election for President and vote Obama over any republican candidate. If Hillary wins, then I go back to my Republican roots.

Democrats... do yourselves a favor and guarantee our future by embracing Obama. I am one of thousands of Republicans that will vote for either Obama or Republican as second choice. That is because Obama is not the Democrat vote... he is the American vote!

I am in Florida and I am not complaining... it is our own fault for electing officials that made these decisions for us.

Before health care, ethics legislation, education and immigration, a President's job is to protect the American people, that is his/her MAIN job. Why would anyone risk putting a novice in the Oval Office (such as GWB) all because you like the way he speaks?

Go Obama! I have never made a contribution before but $100 is well spent. Lets have a change America. Bush Clinton Clinton Bush Bush ?Clinton + Clinton. What are you kidding! 35 years of experience including 10 married to the President. I can't name one issue that Hillary has led the charge and achieved anything for this country. Time for new blood and some drive. Go Obama!

Sokoni Scott   January 31st, 2008 1:33 pm ET

Awesome!!! I think it this outpouring of support for Obama is due to his message of hope and change. The media and Hillarites are trying to paint him as a black candidate when it's not about that at all. I think he can engage on the issues as well as motivate people to change.

George   January 31st, 2008 1:32 pm ET

$32 million in one month, what does that mean?

It means there is going to be a whole lot of sore losers when Hillary wins.

GO HILLARY!!!

mjnohio   January 31st, 2008 1:31 pm ET

stop throwing away your money. most whites wont vote for Obama! if you waste your primary vote and vote for Obama and some how, though a dream, he is the nominee, then count on another for years of Republican rule. Hillary is the only fighter left...Hillary '08

marv. g   January 31st, 2008 1:31 pm ET

Just imagine how much money would be raised for Obama if Black (leaders) politicians were supporting him. A grave shame.

Ro   January 31st, 2008 1:31 pm ET

I've never contributed to a Presidential campaign in my 50 years, until now. Despite being disabled and having a very limited income, I donated to Sen. Obama. I'm delighted to see so many of us putting our money where our hope is.

Ceilidh   January 31st, 2008 1:30 pm ET

go Obama! You have my vote!

Chris   January 31st, 2008 1:30 pm ET

My own Chris is not same as the first one in these comments. It is the second one with the lengthier comment. I think I should start distinguishing by stating my name as Chris N. Folks please take note.

Carolinian   January 31st, 2008 1:30 pm ET

So what Obama raised 32 million.... Telling people how much money you have raised won't make a difference in who will win.. Mrs. Hillary Rodham Clinton will win the nomination... Sometimes I think the media is employed by the Obama camp... I think Obama have paid CNN and MSNBC most of that 32 million... The media needs to stop making Obama look like an angel... BECAUSE HE IS NOT.....

Marilyn   January 31st, 2008 1:27 pm ET

the coverage that CNN is giving to Obama is troublesome to me. I like both candiates, but CNN is unfairly giving positive news about Obama. It's not balanced and honestly CNN needs to just stick to the candidates positions and policies. This is a disturbing trend in the media. It's become like Fox News.

Bill, Tx   January 31st, 2008 1:26 pm ET

Kevin

I'm an oldie and am convincing other 'OLDIES' to go OBAMA. I saw his worth in 2004 at the Demo convention. He is our JFK RFK returned. Don't make it a race between the young and the old. United we stand

He's steamrollin! Obama certainly had the support of a good number of people here in Denver yesterday at his rally!

John S.   January 31st, 2008 1:25 pm ET

I'm really not much into polictics and I don't understand why many people are so anti Clinton. Many people say that if we vote for Hilary we are voting for Bill. Well things were pretty good for me in the 90's, what was it that Bill did that was so bad? Plus things can't get any worse that what Bush has done as far as I can see.

NEW donors.. I repeat NEW donors. Not the same old lobbyists and PAC's. 32 million from ordinary citizens wanting to get involved in the proccess.

You are the type of racist that this campaign is all about defeating. I haven't made up my mind, but every time I see another sick illiterate swipe like this one, I move more and more in Obama's direction....

Keep it up you KKK reject.

The only thing Hillary had going for her in Flori-DUH was the name. If Obama campained there, she would have had her but handed to her like she did in SC...

About Iraq, she didn't read the NIE, she didn't listen to the weapons inspectors on the ground. Experience? yea, at dropping the freaking ball. Dems complain about Iraq and then vote for the person who helped get them there, gesh WAKE UP!

marge   January 31st, 2008 1:17 pm ET

Has it been noted or even understood that Hillary won the Forida votes of the voters that voted early???? Are you Hillary supporters not informed or just in denial?
The 'real time" votes in Florida had Obama ahead.
Many voters in Florida have said they regretted their early vote for Hillary.
Hillary is begging people in states where there is an early voting system in place, to please vote for her and please vote early. What is she afraid of????

Professional in North Carolina   January 31st, 2008 1:17 pm ET

Everyone has the right to their own opinion. Read this clearly . . . . .there is no one candidate who has all of the qualities that are needed to be president. In fact there is no one human alive perfect enough to do anything. we all have flaws and have made mistakes. I believe however as, do millions of Americans that the country needs someone who will listen, who is humble, who is respectful, who is thoughtful, who is concious of the issues facing everyday americans. there is something to be said about a MAN who can stand in the midst of the adversity of a presidential campaign with the demeaner of Mr. Obama. If he can withstand the back-bitting, tatteling and whinning that is going on in this vicious campaign then I do not even question the resolve he will use when handling the major issues that this country will face when he is president. I began voting at the age of 18 and have continually done so in ALL ELECTIONS.

BARACK OBAMA DOES NOT HAVE TO CONVINCE ME ONE BIT! HE HAS EARNED THE RIGHT TO HAVE MY VOTE AND HE WILL GET IT!! GOD BLESS HIM, HIS FAMILY AND THIS GREAT UNITED STATES!

I LOOK FORWARDED TO WATCHING HIM BEING SWORN IN AS OUR COMMANDER AND CHIEF!

Gayle   January 31st, 2008 1:17 pm ET

I would like to see a listing of names and amounts of each contributor. Bet that would be interesting.

Tim   January 31st, 2008 1:17 pm ET

I am also a republican that has been frustrated with the garbage in the republican party... the debate last night seemed to be just a gripe-fight between Romney and McCain. I wished that Ron Paul or Huckabee would have just gotten up and said that he has better things to do than to sit and listen to them two just fight with each other.

I have thrown my support with Obama, because frankly Clinton scares the crap out of me! She always seems to have a fake smile on her face and there seems to be something mysterious and shady about her. Oh, and I don't want a Bill-Hilly presidency. God help the vice president, if she gets into the White House.

Clinton supporters.... where do you hide? I have not met a Clinton supporter on the street yet! Why do you throw your support to someone with a shady past? Obama won't dare call her out because he is actually trying to run a clean campaign and Clinton would spin it as him trying to throw mud. 35 years experience.... seriously? Some of that hasn't been clean (Wal-Mart, etc).

Isn't it strange that noone is talking about the New Hampshire rumors that Kucinich was pledging his own money for a recount, and now it has gone away and he couldn't come up with the money. I heard Obama won mostly all the paper ballots while Clinton won mostly all the electronic ballots (The paper ballots were used in the rural, less populated areas while the electronic was used in the urban, more populated areas).

ali   January 31st, 2008 1:17 pm ET

Basquale   January 31st, 2008 1:15 pm ET

Cool! At least Obama is fighting to be the next President! Hillary just can sit back cause people vote actually for Bill. And another thing...please can somebody explain me this Superdelegates thing? In your Constitution it says that all human are equal.
Wow!
So the vote from Superdelegate Bill Clinton counts a thousand times more than the vote from a struggling New Orleans citizen! I get your Democracy now.

Here's something: I'm a 30 year old, white, educated, Liberal guy. I teach yoga. I don't make a lot of money, but I do pretty well. I've always voted Democratic, but
if Obama were to win the nomination, which I don't really think will happen, I would cast my vote for McCain. We don't need a teen-ager who likes sermons. We need a tough, intelligent politician who can pull our country out of its slump.
We're in a deep hole, and Obama won't have the first idea how to pull us out.

But I gave to Obama.

Obviously IM not alone ..not by a long shot. Obama is on the rise. Clinton is trying to just keep her head above water and in the news.

Maybe the strip-miner who's gutting the environment in Canada thanks to having bought Bill Clinton for $30 million can help the Clintons build that bridge backward when he's doing raping and pillaging the landscape in Europe.

Rick, Maryland   January 31st, 2008 1:14 pm ET

Hope he saves some for when he let's us fall deeper into a recession or even a depression.
The man gives great speeches but his ideas have no meat, Hillery's do.
Maybe he can afford an air mattress so it will soften his his fall along with
the economy.
Most of the exit poll's from South Carolina showed over 80% of people say Hillery has the experiance, less than 15% say Obama does.
Good speeches don't get the job done, experiance does.
These people are voting with there heart's not there brain's.
Dream on while more people loose there home's or John M win's, which
would be better than no experiance.

Great for Obama and all supporters. Obama's fundraising for the month of January is just an example of more people expressing how they have become inspired to help make our country the great nation it is.

Scott   January 31st, 2008 1:12 pm ET

Barack Obama just raised $30 million from everyday Americans.

Bill Clinton just raised $30 million from a strip miner in exchange for endorsing his raping of an Eastern European country's environment.

Hmmmm...

Ardent Clinton supporters keep asking "what is the change"? Well, there's a lot more to it than this, but that's a start.

Jim Lunsford, Chicago IL   January 31st, 2008 1:12 pm ET

That's an average of $188 per donor. Overall, it would appear to be the average Joes who are supporting Obama. I believe that is a good sign. Any power we can remove from corporate hands is a good thing.

I'm very happy for OBAMA, He will make an outstanding president of the U.S.
He gives hope for the future. It's time to turn the page on the old time hard ball politics.
This talk about conservatives and liberals. Its all about the economy, foreclosures, jobs, the war that should had never started. Our children given opportunties for better education and to prosper in science and math. It's time for the good old boys to get ready for CHANGE.
I'ts been a long time since politics has shown some hope, and integrity from a politician as Obama has shown to this country. He makes you remember the John Kennedy, Bobby Kennedy and Dr. Kings dreams and hopes for a change for all people. He has picked up the torch from where they left off.
Finally we have someone who can make a difference for ALL the American people.

I've only donated to three campaigns in my life: Ronald Reagan, our homestate conservative Republican Senator – who like Obama values leadership above partisanship – and recently Obama. I'm one of those 170,000 and VERY proud to be. Count on more when it is needed!

I Gave   January 31st, 2008 1:07 pm ET

I gave in January. First political monetary contribution ever. Then the Obama campaign started sending me all sorts of emails about issues and about the status of the campaign etc. One email profiled a volunteer whose story moved me so much that I tracked him down and sent him a personal donation as well. I feel like that is an example of the power of Obama. He is able to lead in an entirely new way. It's not just rhetoric.

Signed,
A former Republican

Funny, after reading all these comments, I noticed one thing. Obama supporters are for the most part upbeat, positive and hopeful. The Hillary supports are full of negativity and anger. They sound similar to the tone of the candidate they support don't they?

I donated today for the first time. First time since President Kennedy that I felt there was any hope for the future of politics

I live on a single income and have a lot of debt, but I am sending in money as an investment for my children's and grandchildren's lives. Many Florida dems are old dems that look to fight with republicans. They do not believe that Dems and republicans can work together. Hillary's method of politics is to shove policy down peoples throats without concern as to is the policy the right decision. Like her action for the mortgage crisis. who did she consult with to come up with that decision. on another NOTE: Hillary has a long history of big talk and getting nothing done. Look at her time at Walmart. As a high profile employee and laywer, not once did hillary stand up for unions that wanted to improve working condition, NOT ONCE. then when she got on the board STILL NO ACTION. Oh she did mention that the need to promote more women in the company, but that was it. She did NOTHING to help PROMOTE WOMEN in the company while she was on the board of directors and the working conditions still took advantage of employees. Her excuse, I didn't what was going on. HOW could you not, being on the board of directors. that sounds like her husband talking.

Hillary promise healthcare reform while her Husband was in office. DID THAT EVER GET DONE? NO! and that's with Bill her husband as president.

Hillary will run her mouth all day long and nothing will get done that will benefit the country. She has said nothing about what she will do to keep the country secure.

Also, to have the mayor of los angeles, a man that cheated on his wife and family endorsing her and calling latinos to get votes for her is not moral. if I was her I would want nothing to do with that man period. but, she will do anything and say anything to win.

Andrew   January 31st, 2008 12:59 pm ET

Its funny to see Rezko invoked by clinton supporters considering hes got close ties to both Hilary and Bill. Oh, but she doesnt remember him, so its okay. Apparently its only dangerous if you don't have amnesia.

As for the person who said money for obama was a waste, unspent money gets thrown back to the DNC and goes to the campaign running in the general election. So its not being thrown away, you could argue the money being spent was thrown away, but then you'd have to contend with the fact that Edwards just "wasted" all his contributions, and every candidate in the history of the country. Are you going to harp on Clinton for wasting money if she doesnt get the nomination?

GO HILLARY!

LisaMpls   January 31st, 2008 12:52 pm ET

It will be interesting to see what the other candidates are raking in. The good thing about this news is that it inspires us Hillary supporters to contribute again and again to her campaign. Thanks for the reminder!

Obama's campaign sure seems to be spending like they are getting a lot. At night I see approximately two Obama ads per hour in Minneapolis, and I've seen at least three different ads already in just two days. Already sick of em.

Patrick, Chicago, IL   January 31st, 2008 12:52 pm ET

Atleast we won't vote for a Hillary because she's married to Bill.

BE OPEN MINDED FEB 5th VOTERS STILL DECIDING BETWEEN OBAMA AND CLINTON

It is a wonderful problem to have to decide between two extraordinarily gifted individuals who in common represent a historic moment in our political history.

It is also wonderful to know the November elections, more than anything else, will be decided on the bases of who can deliver the change the majority of Americans have already declare to want.

No argument that both represent the possibility for change. Both, Barack and Hillary, will undoubtedly produce a tremendous amount of change. And, this is why my argument now turns to favor Barack Obama.

What is at play in this contest is not only the Democratic Nomination or the right to compete for a historic kind of US Presidency. More significantly, what is at play in these primary elections is –the quality of change- we will ultimately be able to realize.

The bottom line distinctions between Obama vs Clinton can be most powerfully differentiated between –the possibility for future change- vs. –the experience of past change-

There is no base for arguing that Hillary Clinton has more –experience of past change. Those who consider the quantity of –past experience- more important than the quality of –future possibility- have the clear choice in Hillary's 35 years of past Washington experience.

For those of us who consider what quality of -change is possible- as most important; here are 10 distinctions for why Barack Obama might be our better choice:

10 DISTINCTIONS ABOUT OUR POSSIBLE FUTURE CHANGE

For Hillary it is not-possible to unify America as much as Barack can
For Hillary it is not-possible to embody the new as much as Barrack can
For Hillary it is not-possible to inspire hope as much as Barack can
For Hillary it is not-possible to move the youth as much as Barrack can
For Hillary it is not-possible to attract independents as much as Barack can

For Hillary it is not-possible to bring over republicans as much as Barack can
For Hillary it is not-possible to transcend politics as much as Barack can

For Hillary it is not-possible to represent the future as much as Barack can
For Hillary it is not-possible to adopt trans-partisanship as much as Barack can
For Hillary it is not-possible to be a transformational agent as much as Barack can

Hilllary Supporters:

Send an email to the DNC protesting their bone-headed move to not allow Florida's and Michigan's votes to count. If Florida's and Michigan's delegates were counted, Obama would be where he belongs. On the bottom.

I bet if they get enough emails from angry Democrats, they'll overturn their crazy decision.

Thanks! I've already sent mine.

If other candidates had had a system like Obama supporters of donating small amount to their candidate and we know the total donation for a period of a month, that could have been a very good indicator of how the nomination will go even more accurate than the Polling.

Amy R.   January 31st, 2008 12:48 pm ET

A donation to the Obama campaign is an investment in change we can BELIEVE in. It is an investment in a new America that is not run by self-serving politicians who owe their special interests. YES WE CAN!!!

VeryConcerned   January 31st, 2008 12:48 pm ET

I feel today's Obama is more like 00's George Bush, somehow media just fell in love with him just like they did in 2000. And look what we got at the end with Bush. I hope history won't repeat itself, and I had no idea why the media is so biased against Hillary, and ignore any issues/problems that Obama had before. For one, speaking of speeding tickets he got when he was at Harvard, he chose to ignore them until a few months before he wanted to run for the president. Why it took him so long to do a regular law-biding citizen would have no problem to do at the very beginning? I think this speaks for character. Go figure what would happen if he really becomes a president.

Patrick, Chicago, IL   January 31st, 2008 12:48 pm ET

To Martin Lyons,

If Bush wanted to invade Iran, would Hillary vote for it and then say if she knew better she wouldn't have, so that makes her right, right?

I too, am one of the many people that are, for the first time, sending money to a political campaign – Obama's! This is the first time I put my money where my mouth is – I truly believe in Obama, and he is the most likely candidate to be elected in the general election – my energy, money, and prayers are for Barack Obama.

Who trusts Obama campaign anyway. Spin spin spin... They're desperate because they realize now they're waaaay behind Hillary. The only thing they can do is to make a fuss on the media. And CNN is their buddy because it gets revenue from Obama's heavy commercial.

cnn=obama   January 31st, 2008 12:45 pm ET

Cnn, I am a fan of your network and have been an avid watcher for sometime. But, over the last 20 days I have done a little poll. In 18 of those days, you have given Barack more positive press coverage than Hillary Clinton. 18/20 = 90%.

Today, 2 for Barack.

Barack raises 32 million.
Hulk Hogan's Endorsement.

Of course, I guess you forgot Hillary has out raised him thus far, but alas, that is not worthy information b/c it is put Barack in the best light.

I will be back tomorrow with an update.

OBAMA Forever!!   January 31st, 2008 12:45 pm ET

The tide is a changin' folks! Hillary is losing her grip in historical fashion. Check the latest poll in Cali on pollster.com

Here come the OBAMA surge, people are realizing that we have a WC on our hands. What is a WC you ask? That's easy – a World Changer. Obama has the presence to rise above anyone and anything and change this nation and this world.

THINK about how many more people around the globe will listen to him versus a bush or hilliary. He represents the true dream of america – that a hard working son of an immigrant raised in the heartland can indeed unite so varied a people in one cause – the cause – to be better than they can be separately and work together for a better tomorrow.

He will not only inspire us but inspire the world to believe in America again. Can we even put a price on that?

Kehin   January 31st, 2008 12:45 pm ET

This dolar figure says something extraordinary. It shows how much the message and the personality of Obama resonates with the people. He is the only true candidate of change. A change from business as usual. He will restore the reputation of this great nation. Hope that peole will go out to vote for him so that he will not be the best president that never gets to power! This is the time for a real change.

Alice,

If Florida Democrats were so concerned about having their collective voice heard, they wouldn't have violated DNC bylaws. Go ahead and vote Republican...I highly doubt it will matter much. You need to look at the collective demographics of the state. As a Utahn who votes Democrat, my single vote means little to nothing in one of the reddest states in the country. On that note, let me find the world's smallest violin so I can play you a sad tune while I shed a single tear. As soon as you're done throwing your infantile temper tantrum, perhaps you can join us adults in the real world in accomplishing what needs to be done: electing a Democrat in 2008.

John, Tabb, VA   January 31st, 2008 12:44 pm ET

Hillary does not represent the future of America, nor my generation. She is old news and electing her would be stepping back in time. I do think plenty, I read plenty, and I know that we cannot afford to not elect Obama. He is an American gift.

Donating another $100 to him now.

Ellie, Ca   January 31st, 2008 12:43 pm ET

Clinton has been working hard on the campaign trail, speaking to real people about real issues that they care about and how she plans to implement her ideas. She's been working tirelessly to get her message out, but there is rarely mention of it. She is running a clean campaign, trying to rise above the dirty political flyers that Obama's people have been circulating in Super Tuesday states, and to combat his distortions and lies about her record. Not one thing about her at this site so far today, but here is this big hullabaloo article about how much money Obama received in January. Why, do we care about this? Why doesn't CNN save some of its ink for when Obama finally states a clear position on an issue and gives specifics about how he will achieve his high-minded goals?

I doubt that CNN will post this. Most of my messages never make it. CNN has proven it definitely doesn't like opinions that are pro-Hillary.

larry buchas, new britain, ct   January 31st, 2008 12:43 pm ET

You don't understand half of the things you are talking about. 170,000 new people does not mean "Let's see, that would be a couple of million from Ted Kennedy; a couple more million from Caroline Kennedy; a couple more million from Arnold Schwartsenegger; and George Clooney a couple of million " But of course, your just a troll, so who cares about your opinion. You are a Hillary backer, that gets most of her money from lobbysits, insurance companies, and bunch other things. Yet Obama can get 32 million in one month, without insurance companies, drug companies, only the American people. BTW, Anderson Cooper is the least biased out of all of them, with Lou Dobbs at the bottom of that list. Its easier to be against something than being for something!

Senator Obama: A new vision for America, a departure from Bush and Clinton era.
Vision matched with brillance equal wisdom. Senator Obama has an analytical mind. He looks at the problems facing American, then he gets to the roots of the problems which are the Congress and the House of Representatives and starts to make change at that level. Because of his brillance and vision, he will then choose his cabinet wisely and start from day 1 to attack the many problems facing America. Many years of experience in the political arena is not a necessity given his vision and brillance. He reminds me of a brillant chess player whose every move is thought of with great tenacity. May God guide you Senator Obama in taking American to heights where it has never been and may the future of my six year old daughter be secured when she becomes an adult.

I am also proud to say I donated. It was only $50, but for the first time I actually feel like every bit counts and that even a few dollars can add up to equal the weight of Obama's words, "Yes We Can." Obama represents a powerful movement that makes people believe once again in the United States and makes us able to see its potential. I can only hope that this helps swing people from Clinton to Obama, for millions of americans will be disheartened if she wins the nominee.

Bibi   January 31st, 2008 12:40 pm ET

"Yes we can!" is a theme for the United Farmworkers Union (sí se puede) .
They have given their suppot to Hillary not Obama. This should be noted. Speaking as a college educated latino, many of us are backing Hillary because we prefer not to roll the dice on the economy. We Know she is the sharpest tool in the shed and that she can do much more for us.

Martin Lyons   January 31st, 2008 12:37 pm ET

I so don't get the Obama thing, the man is all talk and no action. What are the new politics he represents? Spin the Clintons... talk about change, but record doesn't support it...say you have the backbone and personal grit to make real change happen, yet take the safe middle road when your vote counts...

If Obama represents new politics, it's sure seems a lot like the old politics.

It is absolutely deplorable that we have to borrow money from poor China. What a crap? Let's put Americans to work, let's put food to the table. Let's reclaim our country from the corrupt Washington lobbyists. Let's reward our teachers, soldiers, scientists, etc. No doubt, Obama will do all this if given the opportunity -with patience and optimism we will reclaim our future- the reward for forbearance at the end is resounding success.

How much do you wanna bet that most of the money he raised came from special interest using fronts to cover for them. I wonder how much of his money came from poor people? I live in Bronx NY and while all the hype around Obama is amusing, we don't need a rockstar for president , we need someone who gets things done and ask people of NYC like myself and we can tell real stories of how Hillary has been a very effective advocate. Oh and just for the record I'm a 38 year old African American male professor.

32 million in one month? What does that prove other than our system is awash in money. Our system is broken and I doubt if Barack Obama is the one to fix it.

Scott   January 31st, 2008 12:32 pm ET

Norma,
You're disappointed but you're also delusional. Your "girl" has taken close to $75 million from lobbyists. Her husband has taken at least $30 million more from a uranium strip-miner in Europe (and we know that's just the tip of the iceberg).

We know you, and the rest of the ardent Hillaryites, want to throw a temper-tantrum about this but the facts are the facts.

Dennis   January 31st, 2008 12:32 pm ET

Good for Obama. He has a powerful message and he inspires people. I think way too much is made of his perceived "lack of experience," and I think Hillary's "35 years of experience" are way overblown.

I donated to Obama twice in January. I had never given to a political campaign before.

So Mr. "take no prisoners" "push for public funding guy is raking it in by the tons.
And, he won't owe anybody favors if he should win the Presidency? Gotcha!
Let's see, that would be a couple of million from Ted Kennedy; a couple more million from Caroline Kennedy; a couple more million from Arnold Schwartsenegger; and George Clooney a couple of million – maybe Brittany Spears a couple – so pretty boy could maybe be in the movies in a couple of years. And this is what you're basing your votes on! Gee, maybe George Clooney could be his vice president and we'd have the best darn "hottest" team the world has ever seen.

Whatever happened to just being qualified for the job???

Keep it up CNN – after watching the Republican debate last night – its again so obvious that you've picked your candidate, and you absolutely scoff at every candidate but McCain. Like Obama on the other side, you have pandered to a particular individual in every debate. Even though I'm a Hilary backer, you were only solitious to Hucklebee and Ron Paul. McCain, like all Republicans have done – hogged the entire debate – and you let him. Shame Shame – I've taken
to listening to the radio to get what, if any, straight talk I can find.

Yeah – Anderson Cooper – we're keeping them honest okay.

Hmmn...   January 31st, 2008 12:28 pm ET

benvictor   January 31st, 2008 12:27 pm ET

Quite the haul of money. Does CNN know who the donors are? Stories have been running about monies having to be returned. Is the $32 million net of the monies that have had to be returned? This is reminding me more and more of Mitt Romney and the vast resources he is pouring into the campaign. John has taken on new life, but was almost broke. So, this money is probably the bad omen about to visit BO. I think ordinary people look at this with disgust and want no part of this candidate.

Andrea, Anaheim   January 31st, 2008 12:27 pm ET

In light of what just came out about $30 million buying Bill Clinton's support for a strip mine in Kazakhstan, the fact that HIllary trolls are still trying to beat the dead horse about Rezko is a JOKE.

Your guy (and his wife since just sold out his "environmental pledge" for $30 million.

Obama is the new face of American politics, we NEED this man to be president; as a nation we'll have taken such a huge leap forward when he becomes president. Vote Barack Obama !!

Media has it right   January 31st, 2008 12:26 pm ET

Finally there is news coming out as to why the Clinton's cannot be trusted. See the New York Post article about Obama endorsement–they state about all the Clinton scandals and they cannot be trusted. Now today in the New York Times there is an article about "An ex-president, a mining deal, and a big donor" Here again showing that the Clinton's cannot be trusted. This is why there is an overwhelming support for Obama who is not taking in PAC money or other special interest money. They want someone in office without all the scandals and dishonesty which go all the way back to Arkansas–all you Hillary supporters do your research before you vote. We certainly do not need someone in the highest office in this land with so much baggage!!! Don't believe the show the Clinton's are putting on, because you will the sucker then.

Joanne   January 31st, 2008 12:26 pm ET

Though McCain is of the old school he was progressive in his stance and Obama at least has the courage to state change is needed.

ITs so nice to see these people come out with ridiculous ways to spin this. You cant spin this, Obama has a lot more supporters than you think. We, the young people will push you oldies, this is a generational thransformation. If Hillary wins, Many will not vote for her, and the Democrats will lose to a war addict. We must stand up to these people and must fight for a caue. It is easy to go against something, a.k.a. Hillary being the anti-bush, rather than being for something, a.k.a. Obama with his transformation to fix the political system and make it work for us, the real people, not the lobbyist and insurance companies.

Hillary has raised more than enough money through individual donations to carry her through the entire campaign season in style.

Aren't y'all excited about tonight's debate in Los Angeles? With only 2 on the stage, this ought to really separate the wheat from the chaff.

Go Hillary! California is firmly behind you!!

Lucia   January 31st, 2008 12:22 pm ET

I don't agree with how campaigns are run in this day in age. 32 MILLION dollars in January alone, adding to the other millions and millions of dollars spent for personal gain. It makes me sick! Millions of dollars thrown away, more so than any other campaign largely due to how early it all began. I hope that after all this is over with some of that money will go to good use. I won't donate because I think enough money has been spent in this race, but it is amazing how Obama has made it to the top.

Rob   January 31st, 2008 12:22 pm ET

It is REALLY funny how Obama-haters fill every board about him with irrelevant information that has nothing to do with the article at hand. There is no crime in accepting money from Rezko. It has the APPEARANCE of being unethical. But no actual quid pro quo. What would be criminal is if Obama repaid that money or real estate buy with influence, deals, etc. So far, nothing turns up. He's clean.

For example>>>Kinda like Bill Clinton's million dollar uranium mine deal Ukrainian businessman kickback for his donations, that'll make Rezko look like a 'has been'. Add the fact the Clintons were photographed with Rezko in 1996 and given their tendency for scandal, Obama looks clean as a fresh diaper.

Alice in Florida   January 31st, 2008 12:20 pm ET

I live in Florida, and I am furious that my vote for Hillary did not count. I have sent an email to the DNC protesting the fact that my own party is stealing my vote. I also told them that if Obama wins because they stole Floridians' votes, I will vote Republican for the first time in my life.

Please notify the DNC that it is totally ludicrous that Florida's delegates won't be seated. If the DNC didn't make such a bone-headed move, Obama would be where he belongs – in last place!

Brennan - Seattle, WA   January 31st, 2008 12:20 pm ET

As a fairly conservative liberal I am amazed by Obama. I have vever given to a campaign until this election cycle.

Barack is an inspiriation and while it is ridiculous that he needs this much money to be competitive, it is also reality. I will continue to give to this campaign and if Hillary ends up with the nomination I will donate to McCain's campaign.

John Tucker   January 31st, 2008 12:20 pm ET

Here comes the OBAMA train folks – HOP ON BOARD!!!!

The times – they are a changin'!!!!!

Ryan in MO   January 31st, 2008 12:19 pm ET

$32 million raised is an amazing statistic... but what's been more amazing? The lack of the Clinton's in the news!!! Obama is seeming all over the media outlets, gaining popularity among the American people, and more importantly, GAINING GROUND NATIONALLY!!! I sense the Clinton campaign is getting a little nervous...

And when Edwards endorses Obama... Now introducing the Democratic Presidential Nominee: Sen. Barack Obama.

Obama 08!

Jim ( Independent )   January 31st, 2008 12:19 pm ET

Chris you keep on thinking that way , the Obama train is picking up speed , we have room for all americans that want a better tomorrow , come on and join us.

Clinton would be a dream come true for the Republicans. The Clintons have so much trash in there back yard,a vote for Hillary is a vote for the Republicans , and you can take that to the bank.

OBAMA 08

Sorry folks, but Obama is NOT for me. Someone talked earlier about contributions to Clinton not on the up and up. Well, HELLO, what about the fellow who just got arrested that is linked to Obama's campaign? No one is perfect, but, I feel that Obama DOES NOT have the experience to lead this country! If he wins the nomination (OOOH LORD HELP ME), but I will vote Republican.

For Hillary 100%%%%%

Gregory, NYC   January 31st, 2008 12:18 pm ET

This is EXCELLENT news!!! I too have donated 10-15 and 25 dollars to Obama when ever I could. A few times this month I donated 5 dollars because that was all I could squeeze out. I am going to keep donating money and time for this man. I truly believe he is sent to us just as JFK, and Dr. King were in the sixties (although I pray everyday he does not meet their fate!) People wake up and join this great movement of change in this country. Obama represents the best in all of us and the true spirit of the American Dream.
It is going to be such a wonderful day when he is inaugurated!!

united for truth   January 31st, 2008 12:18 pm ET

We’re the greatest nation on the face of the earth, yet we allow ourselves to be brainwashed, and mislead.
It is absolutely deplorable that we have to borrow money from poor China. What a crap? Let's put Americans to work, let's put food to the table. Let's reclaim our country from the corrupt Washington lobbyists. Let's reward our teachers, soldiers, scientists, etc. No doubt, Obama will do all this if given the opportunity with patience and optimism we will reclaim our future- the reward for forbearance at the end is resounding success.

We love you Obama!!

Betty   January 31st, 2008 12:18 pm ET

Wake up people. Bush fired the economic advisor who estimated it could cost 200 billion. Now we spent over 1 trillion. Bush said oil revenue would pay for Iraq reconstruction. We were lied to about that. Bush said we would be welcomed as liberators. Another lie. Bush said mission accomplished. Another lie. Bush told us we had to invade Iraq because of WMD. Another lie. No candidate except Ron Paul has described a real plan to reduce the national debt and strengthen our economy.

Everyone trying to ride Obama......but lets look at the facts.....if everyone vote for someone that give them hope or because people like him...well we will end up in the same situation we are in now....Think back about 8 yrs ago....everyone loved Bush and everyone hated Gore because he was a friend of the Clintons...and look where we are now!!!!!!

Dan, NJ   January 31st, 2008 12:10 pm ET

Its the first time I ever donated to a campaign. If Hillary wins, she will owe a debt to special interests. If Obama wins, he will owe a debt to everyday Americans.

And i still don't know why CNN is covering the Walmart tapes where Hillary sat silent while the board discussed crushing unions or the NY Times story about Bill Clinton buddying up the an opressive dictator.

With all the money raised in this campaign so far and all the money presumably already spent, it's hard to know what this article really means unless you give comparative data for other candidates–particularly with regard to cash on hand. The only thing I bet is that John Edwards left his campaign with no cash on hand.

laurie   January 31st, 2008 12:10 pm ET

West is going to be very tough for Obama, he's relatively unknown out there..but he's definitely a more credible and more serious candidate than Hilary, Mcain put together, those old folks have only perfected their political skills to say the right things over the years, it doesnt really come from the heart like Obama's....look them all right in the eye when they speak and you will catch that secret..

Chris   January 31st, 2008 12:07 pm ET

anyone who donates to Obama in the primary season is essentially throwing their money away. Hillary is going to be the nominee so you might as well give your money to a Republican instead of Obama. Or better yet give it to Hillary. Make your money count for something at least....

Well Manny, you do have a point. So what I just did was donated $30 to the American Red Cross, and then I donated another $30 to the Barack Obama campaign which was matched by another donor.

Thank you for the great idea, this way Barack Obama still got the $60 I was initially going to give to his campaign.

Americans will never make the right choice. Obama is too clean for the job of being President of the USA. There are other forces at play that he isn't familiar with. Excited as all you Obama fans are. SADLY, I really think he won't make it. Obama makes me want to be american! And if you knew me this would have been a shock. I bet even Osama will want to be american! Hehehehe.
In a perfect world Obama would be President.

I'm elated that so many Obama supporters like myself have decided to put their money where their mouths are. The time has finally come after decades of waiting, hoping, and praying. We finally have a presidential candidate who is speaking to our issues, concerns, and daily realities. This recent outpouring of financial support is simply a testament to Obama's electability and viability. Obama, you have my support today, tomorrow, and throughout your entire administration. May it be eight years of steadfast change. This election has set precedence and I ask every Obama supporter to keep hope alive and ignore the naysayers. The time for change is NOW!

Who cares how much money they make?

Look at Florida where they didn't SPEND any money, or campaign there. It's not about who has the most money, or who has the biggest crowds, or who can be the best CHEERLEADER.

I support a national primary. So every state votes at the same time and it doesn't matter how many TV commercials they buy! Wouldn't everyone like fewer commercials?!?!?

ELECT THE BEST CANDIDATE FOR THE JOB!

VOTE FOR HILLARY CLINTON!

Remember people, George Bush's theme was similar's to Obama. He was all for change, and he called himself a uniter and look where the country is now. We need a candidate with experience like Clinton. This is no time for on the job training. If Obama wins, the Republicans will have a field goal with him in the white house.

I bemoan the fact that it requires $32 million dollars total to even be considered as a presidential nominee. To think to how much good use such a large amount of money could go. If we took all the money that ALL politicians raise to get elected and/or re-elected, I am willing to bet we could get one heck of a lot more done than the whole lot of modern day aristocrats. Power to the people!

Obama has been in politics for many years so he is a politican just like all the rest he just talks a little smoother & covers his vague answers with the change message & people go wild...All of us have baggage including Obama (& the Kennedys) the media have not set their sites on him just wait & see if he is the nominee they will rip him apart. He had real problems dealing with the Clintons a couple of weeks back just wait until the GOP & the media both get a hold of him. I can not wait to hear Roland Martin, Donna Brazzelle, & Jim Clyburn pull the race card on the GOP & the media.....

Polls, schmolls! We whites, young, middle aged and old are backing Obama. My 76 year old mother called me Saturday evening just squealing with excitement about OUR win in SC. She resents the fact that the pundits say that Hillary gets the vote of older folks. She thinks they are dead wrong. He speaks to every one of us. Oh yeah, my 23 years old daughter loves him too and says there is a lot of enthusiasm on her college campus.

You don't raise 32 million from individual contributions in 1 month..

Kiran K   January 31st, 2008 11:55 am ET

This is the first time I am willing to be a donor to any presidential canditate in my life. I am ready to donate because I do not want to take the risk again by putting Clinton's back in office. Obama is great statesman. I believe in him. What Hillary Clinton can do when her husband Bill Clinton can't do in his 8 years of presidential term ? Clintons just can't live without power. They are very greedy for power and ready to do anything for that.

d   January 31st, 2008 11:55 am ET

You are brainwashed by the media !!! All of them are Obama-ites... they are afraid to take any other stand; Al Sharpton would put them out of business.

Brandy   January 31st, 2008 11:55 am ET

Why is this breaking news? Are you going to break the news of what all the other candidates raised. Your motive to help keep Obama's momentum going from his SC rout is sooooooooo freakin' obvious CNN. You have truly lost all of my respect. As soon as this Super Tuesday is over, I will no longer even visit your website. How disappointing....

Tip: There is some breaking news that Obama has been on the attack for two days..... odd how you haven't mentioned that at all.

Anon Middle America
Do you want to discuss the amount Clinton had to give back? I think not...it is way higher than that! She had to give back over $850,000 to one donor alone and that doesn't even count the thousands of dollars from her China Town dish washers.
Barack is the peoples candidate and Hillary is the PAC and Lobby candidate.
I gave for the first time ever to Barack last year and am sending another $50 now.

He snubs Hillary at the State of the Union (sorry, but most people believe he snubbed her...even news media that don't like her), then criticizes her for "not talking to leaders we don't like"....will he talk to anyone he dosn't like? Will he snub foreign leaders in the White House?

Can't even look at her and shake her hand....his advisor first says he was giving Kennedy and her privacy....then says someone else was talking to him...then tells a crowd "You need a candidate who will tell you the truth." Couldn't he have just come out and told the truth? That he didn't want to talk to her??????

I donated $75 for Barack Obama's campaign ... and I had never donated to a political campaign before !! This is different. My $75 matter because most of his supporters give a little when they can. Barack Obama is thankful for the smalllest amount and at the end all the 'little people' generate an incredible force.

Everybody ..give $5, $10 or any whatever 'small' amount you can afford! Everybody counts, every contribution makes a difference !

I've never donated to a candidate in my life until Barack Obama's bid for the presidency. It takes a little to get someone to agree and vote for you, it takes a whole lot more to get someone to agree, vote, and part with precious percentages of paychecks for you! i have never felt so good about giving what i could to a cause.

i still can't beleive he raised 32 mil in a month!

VFB CA Independent   January 31st, 2008 11:54 am ET

I hope Obama does not win.
Do you think that much money came from a $10 fundraiser? $100 donation?
Be real folks. Are we living in the same planet? 32 million did not come from the everyday worker. It comes from folks with wealth.

As far as fundraising Hillary broke no rules or agreements when she decided to fundraise in Florida or are some of just still thinking it is a "beauty contest".

I found that the media and Obama offensive as to say the a beauty contest has "no value". Shame on you all, taking away hope from those folks.

Sam   January 31st, 2008 11:53 am ET

It is funny how the Clinton supporters try to talk about Rezko. Did they read today's news about the Clintons? Another huge Clinton scandal hit the New York Times: Bill and the mining deal that funded millions to Bill. And Hillary did not help unions at all or women at Wal-mart.

Obama has my vote. Tired of these ongoing scandals of the Clintons.

DL   January 31st, 2008 11:52 am ET

Hillary Clinton's record is extraordinary and far superior to Barack Obama's. In another 5-10 years, Obama might be the best candidate. Today, the best person for the highest job in the land is Hillary Clinton. People need to give more care and consideration to the professional and civic achievements of both candidates and then ask themselves if both walked into the door of any public or private company to apply for the position of CEO, who has distinguished him/herself the most as of today. Hands down that person is Hillary Clinton.

Melissa in CA   January 31st, 2008 11:52 am ET

"the Illinois senator received contributions from 170,000 new donors in January"

This is the most important news for the Democratic Party in a decade. The party is back because Obama has the ability to absorb individuals into the party who would have scoffed at such an idea only 3 years ago.

These people WILL drop off and become neutral if Clinton should win (unless Obama joins the ticket)

We are doing what the Republicans did as an organization once Bill Clinton came into power. The tables have turned.

And win or lose, its all thanks to Obama

I don't know about the other Super Tuesday states, but he will win here in Colorado FOR SURE!!! GO OBAMA!!!

I donated twice to the Obama campaign this month and have never donated to a political campaign prior to this year. Congrats to the Obama team.

Wishing Obama well in the debate tonight, remember that John Edwards is standing on stage with you, as are those of us who believed in his campaign.

One thing for sure, especially for those voting Feb 5th, the last thing this country needs is ANY version of a BRIDGE TO BACKWARD, else we get more of the same State of the Union messages as we got Monday.

Barack Obama, your opposition is very skilled politically, to be sure, just that we do not need any more concur-and-divide, power gotcha, and sleazy mis-reputation of facts from those that call themselves leaders. We need forward-looking truth tellers.

lou   January 31st, 2008 11:48 am ET

Too bad Obama can not do better at explaining what he stands for... the pretty words and promise to be a "uniter" are empty promises to the Latinos. Hispanics backed Bush in very high numbers to then get disappointed in a big way. Obama NEEDS the Hispanic vote desperately and he is not making any headways. I feel deep distrust of this man. If he gets the nomination I will vote republican unless he is able to articulate better what he plans to fix the mess W and his administration has created.

America wants change....(okay, the word change has been tossed around a lot) so I'll change that statement (smile). America and most of it's citizens are exhausted, we want our power back. Power that lies within each one of us to choose the direction of our future. We decide who the best person will be to lead our country. Therefore we are the ones with the financial power. I know that my $50 is apart of the $32million and that reinforces my power.

The reason why Obama is drawing a lot of support from small individual doners is the fact that we are tired of the Clinton's sleaze and sliminess. The Clintons on the other hand depends on few contributions from shady characters such as the Canadian financier who traveled to Kazakhstan with Bill Clinton and won a big mining deal later donated millions to Mr. Clinton. God forbid the Clintons' co-presidency.

That is unless the GOP subverts, steals, brainwashes and just BSs it's way to the white house again.

Robert Muhumuza   January 31st, 2008 11:47 am ET

Does anyone know what is called "Bloody Liars"???
That is what can describe Bill Clinton and Company!!!
If you are asking why, read the paragraph below from a story in New York Times Today

"Both Mr. Clinton and Mr. Giustra at first denied that any such meeting occurred. Mr. Giustra also denied ever arranging for Kazakh officials to meet with Mr. Clinton. Wednesday, after The Times told them that others said a meeting, in Mr. Clinton’s home, had in fact taken place, both men acknowledged it."

“You are correct that I asked the president to meet with the head of Kazatomprom,” Mr. Giustra said. “Mr. Dzhakishev asked me in February 2007 to set up a meeting with former President Clinton to discuss the future of the nuclear energy industry.” Mr. Giustra said the meeting “escaped my memory until you raised it.”

Vote Obama 2008 Please!!!!

K.Thabo   January 31st, 2008 11:47 am ET

America really needs a leader lyk Obama,he aint self serving as the others...! Go OBAMA 08...!!!

Obama Supporter   January 31st, 2008 11:47 am ET

Barack, just continue to keep a positive campaign.....and do not let the Clinton's stand in the way of your message of CHANGE. Please continue to defend yourself from them........and you will be fine! We are proud of you.

Obama '08

Micahel Guinn, Ventura, CA   January 31st, 2008 11:46 am ET

The Obama campaign is a MONUMENTAL movement for change and all we "small contributors" are turning a dream into reality. YES WE CAN!
Obama 08!

grant   January 31st, 2008 11:46 am ET

Clinton can't win Independents, and she is the one thing that could bring republicans out of the woodwork this fall; Moreover, the tens of millions of new voters Obama is bringing to the table are not coming because he's a democrat; They're coming for him, and most will not be sufficiently enthused about a hillary nomination to maintain their activism. In short, nominating Hillary scores a winning touchdown...for the other team.

Bruno   January 31st, 2008 11:45 am ET

That's great, everyone supporting Obama.
I'm from Brasil and I donated 4 times to Obama campaign, it's the first time i contribute to a political campaign.

Lynn L.   January 31st, 2008 11:44 am ET

I have never donated to a presidential campaign before, but this year I have donated sacrificially - twice - to MIKE HUCKABEE.

Today (Jan. 31) is the FEC deadline when all the candidates have to file their financial disclosure documents. Romney can't hide any more... no more refusing to disclose how much of his own fortune he's spent to buy the presidency.

IDEA: I'd like to see someone on CNN do a COMPARISON: how much money per vote it has cost, on average, for each candidate. (I.e., total primary votes for him/her, so far, divided by how many total primary votes he/she has received.

Manny VP   January 31st, 2008 11:44 am ET

That's funny...people get really happy about this as if this means that the PEOPLE will get the money.....oh please...who cares how much money they have raised. If they all put all the money raised and donated it to charities – then that would be newsworthy and worth reading!!! I guess CNN is running out of things to report about....

Tony   January 31st, 2008 11:42 am ET

IS CNN=OBAMA?

Lena   January 31st, 2008 11:42 am ET

Unlike Hillary Clinton, who just got a MULTI MILLION dollar "donation" from a ex-Soviet mining giant, Barack is honest and is supported by our people!!

KK   January 31st, 2008 11:42 am ET

This is the first time I am willing to be a donor to any presidential canditate in my life. I am ready to donate because I do not want to take the risk again by putting Clinton's back in office. Obama is great statesman. I believe in him. What Hillary Clinton can do when her husband Bill Clinton can't do in his 8 years of presidential term ? Clintons just can't live without power. They are very greedy for power and ready to do anything for that.

Intellectuals   January 31st, 2008 11:42 am ET

I am an immigrant, just became eligible for citizenship and can't vote in the '08 election. But I have contributed my first $ ever to Se. Obama. I will contribute more, because he symbolizes what everyone believes in - Positive Hope

Jimmy, Oklahoma Feb. 5th   January 31st, 2008 11:41 am ET

How do any of you know where he gets his money. He is no different then any other politician. We at the Clinton Camp are not talking about other campaigns, nor are we bragging like you little kids on the Obama team. Edward Kennedy was believe to have killed his mistress in the 80"s while he was a young Senator everyone knew the Kennedy's were Playboy's. Did not stop us from loving them. Ed Kennedy was not John Kenndys favorite, It was Bobby that he was closes to, and all of Bobby Kennedy's kids endorsed Clinton.

Obama Supporter   January 31st, 2008 11:41 am ET

WoW !

Tim   January 31st, 2008 11:41 am ET

This many donors shows haw many republicans are making donations to help Obama's campaign to get Hillary out of the nominee. The GOP is scared to run against Hillary. If Obama wins the nominee, the GOP will cut him to threads.

Kelly W   January 31st, 2008 11:41 am ET

I am in complete agreement about the Clintons, I have nevr given to a political campaign, but agreed not to spend any money on entertainment and dinners to donate to Obama. If the Clinton(s) are the nominee, I will have to go with McCain.

Susan   January 31st, 2008 11:40 am ET

Did Oprah have a give-away with rules to donate to a "charity"?

Jim ( Independent )   January 31st, 2008 11:39 am ET

HEY CNN TICKER STOP LEAVING PEOPLES MESSAGES IN MODERATION PLEASE !

Cheryl   January 31st, 2008 11:39 am ET

Go Obama! 2008
We love you!!

Tony   January 31st, 2008 11:39 am ET

and this is news worthy why?

united for truth   January 31st, 2008 11:39 am ET

Wow!! 32 million dollars–Americans really need a change and transformation of our political system indeed. No more corporate lobbyist and status quo-ENOUGH America! President Obama will absorb our anguish and divisions with positive solutions, confident to greet the future with resolute sense of hope and optimism.

LisaMpls   January 31st, 2008 11:39 am ET

How does this compare to the other candiates? CNN, do you have this info?

Go Blue   January 31st, 2008 11:39 am ET

About a year ago, I went to a $10 fundraiser for Barack Obama at a bar. A friend of mine who is supporting Mrs. Clinton laughed at the thought of a $10 fundraiser.

Who's laughing now? :)

Lisa   January 31st, 2008 11:39 am ET

I'm as frugal as you get and I too donated to Obama. Never donated to a candidate in my life. Will donate again next paycheck. Investing in our future!

Obama 08!!!!!

S Williams   January 31st, 2008 11:38 am ET

I really hope Obama wins.

But according to most polls, the majority of white democrats and latinos are for Hillary. Plus many old guard black politicians want to put the Clintons back in the white house as well.

Since now that the campaigns are going out west . . . . it's going to be AWFULLY difficult for Obama.

anon middle america   January 31st, 2008 11:38 am ET

It's a good thing after Barack's staff had to dump another $100,000 in donations from his long time friend and fundraiser Tony Rezko under cover of darkness the other night AND Tony was finally arrested by the FBI for alleged fraud, bilking the teachers' pension fund and making campaign contributions in return for long term political favors!!

Barack admitted that it was a "BONE-HEADED MISTAKE" and in all has had to donate at least a $170,000 to charity.

Obama also admitted that he PUSHED THE WRONG BUTTON AT LEAST 5 TIMES WHEN VOTING :( = FIVE MORE MISTAKES

BUT he didn't even make the vote on the Iranian sanctions because he was too busy stumping and fundraising = ANOTHER MISTAKE (or perhaps conspiracy)

No   January 31st, 2008 11:38 am ET

I don't want a n00b in the white house.
As an independant I would vote for the war monger before this guy!!

Michelle   January 31st, 2008 11:38 am ET

GO BARACK!!!!! Show the American people what HOPE can do!!!!

WBMT   January 31st, 2008 11:38 am ET

he has got to translate this into (effective) political advertising across 22 states in 5 days to compete...or Super Tuesday could quickly turn into Black Friday, or Dark Tuesday or just bad news for the home team

AJ, IL   January 31st, 2008 11:37 am ET

WOW! Yep, I was one of the new donors in January. Never invested in politics before, but now I feel different.

Obama in '08!

peter   January 31st, 2008 11:37 am ET

PEOPLE WILL VOTE BASED ON THEIR ISSUES NOT THEIR ADS/MONEY

LOOK AT ROMNEY

Virginia CA   January 31st, 2008 11:37 am ET

Truthmatters: You're right. He's already taken more than enough political contributions from Tony Rezko.

Diddy   January 31st, 2008 11:37 am ET

I think this is another example of why He Needs to be the President. The amoiunt of people who've never been apart of the political system are now donating time and money. At the head quarters I use my own cell phone because all the booths are taken for phone banking. The amount of people who are becoming involved is amazing. It speaks well for him and should be a lessoin for the remaining candidates. America is ready to move forward with a new kind of leadership.

Jim ( Independent )   January 31st, 2008 11:37 am ET

Obama has regular folks donating this money and that speaks volumes about this Obama train.

YES WE CAN !

Jimmy, Oklahoma Feb. 5th   January 31st, 2008 11:37 am ET

There is enough Democrats that feel comfortable with John McCain over Barack Obama. Alot, I mean Alot of Senator Clintons votes will go over to John McCain if Obama wins the primary. I have been a Democrat for years and have no respect in the way Obama has mislead people, and has lied to the American peoiple during his campaign. Thanks Obama for trying to take the White House away from us Democrats again. Thanks John Kerry for your attempt to knock down this Great Nation for personal bennfit. Remember you did NOT WIN EITHER. NOW YOU ARE TAKING OBAMA DOWN WITH YOU.

Clinton OR McCain 2008 A College Grad male that is the same age as Obama

Brian   January 31st, 2008 11:37 am ET

I wonder how much of the money was from that Chicago slumlord. Go Hillary!

Alex   January 31st, 2008 11:36 am ET

Hillary doesn't need money to win:

It just shows people are so scared of her that his supporters have to throw money at him to feel that he still stands a chance.

Mark C. Eades   January 31st, 2008 11:36 am ET

Just one more good sign that Obama's star is rising while Clinton's is falling.

K, Florida   January 31st, 2008 11:36 am ET

I live in Florida and Obama's folks called me prior to voting to ask if "WE" were willing to donate $150 so that Obama could take back America. Yes he was fundraising in florida. He also attended "fundraisers" in homes in my neighborhood.

Citizen   January 31st, 2008 11:36 am ET

Obama Lovers,

You are all leaving in a dream world!

Attacks by the Establishment on Ron Paul Continue   January 31st, 2008 11:35 am ET

I guess all those rich ball players (legal and otherwise) are donating some of that quota system and affirmative action money.

Too little too late. Hillary will win!

Braineel   January 31st, 2008 11:35 am ET

This is a good indicator of the increasing faith in the Obama campaign.

Dalton, Winston-Salem, NC   January 31st, 2008 11:35 am ET

Yep! I happen to be one of those individuals who donated the max $2,300 this year. I'm not affiliated with any pol organization or anything... just a regular average joe. I've never been so eager to give to a campaign before. I really believe in this one. Not everyone who gets into politics is a bad person.

Dee Ward Mena, AR   January 31st, 2008 11:34 am ET

Too bad his supporters are throwing their money away...Course I guess Rezko can afford it.

Gregory S.   January 31st, 2008 11:34 am ET

This is an amazing way to gauge support from individuals for Barack Obama, versus the elites and special interests that donate to the Clinton camp. Obama's candidacy is exciting and a huge step away from the politics and practices of the PAST.

I'm a registered Republican. And I'm sending money to Obama's campaign AND plan on voting for him.

Dan, TX   January 31st, 2008 11:34 am ET

My goal was to raise $100 for Obama, I'm at $95 now, and I'm going to get that next $5 in soon!

BM   January 31st, 2008 11:34 am ET

People believe in Obama.

Hope in Detroit and I am white   January 31st, 2008 11:34 am ET

I love you Obama just donated another 20

Scott   January 31st, 2008 11:33 am ET

I am an Obama supporter but in all fairness he does have PACs working on his behalf. He has repudiated them but they are still stumping for him. Although Hillary does have far more interest groups than any other candidate, she has never claimed to run a clean campaign. Thus is politics in a post McCain-Feingold world.

BP   January 31st, 2008 11:33 am ET

Great sign that many are "buying into" Obama's dream......

Also, have you seen the union bashing story about Hillary when she was with Walmart... Holy cow !!!!! 35 years of experience ??? I think there is a few years she should maybe leave out.....

Dan   January 31st, 2008 11:33 am ET

Way to go Obama! I really hope he picks up the edwards supporters now that he is out of the race. Obama is for TRUE change in this country. For those who think he is inexperienced – what about JFK and Lincoln? Also, because he hasn't been "in it" as long, he is not tainted by the ferociousness of washington. He is not poisoned by political greed. He is a true american who wants change for the better. Voting Clinton is voting for another 4 years of the big political machine. Vote for a man who speaks for the people. OBAMA 08!

evita   January 31st, 2008 11:33 am ET

AMEN!

OBAMA '08!!

Oscar, Rio Vista, CA   January 31st, 2008 11:33 am ET

woo hoo!!

Taylor   January 31st, 2008 11:32 am ET

All of Obama's donors are not individuals. Go to opensecrets.com and you will see that virtually all of the Democratic nominees, including those that are no longer running have a large amount of money coming from the same companies.

SB   January 31st, 2008 11:32 am ET

Proud of the fact I did my part....I think I'll donate again for good measures.

goldietaylor   January 31st, 2008 11:32 am ET

I am one one the 170,000. He's earned our family's support.

stan pitts pa   January 31st, 2008 11:32 am ET

oh obama you rock man!!! way to go, cha-ching thats the sound of me donating more money to your campaign, we need a fundamental shake up in washington, to get rid of do nothing politicians, feeding off us! obama 08!

Sherry in Kentucky   January 31st, 2008 11:32 am ET

I am sooo excited!!! This is so awesome! Go, Barack Obama! I have never been this excited about a presidential candidate!

Virginia San Francisco, California   January 31st, 2008 11:31 am ET

You all say it is "charisma". It all about the money dummy.
What I would like to know is where is the money coming from?
Another "Rezco" perhaps? I must admit if it had not been for Senator Clinton we Americans would have never known and that is WHY Nobama did not keep the money. Hummm it seems Nobama has some skeletons in his closet. What else will fall out of that closet?

Holly Evans   January 31st, 2008 11:31 am ET

when obama took over the podium after tedd keneddy. i just sat down on the floor and listened everything word by word. my inner being was touched and felt , convinced that the guy should be on the oval office. i as an individual is inspired by his mere genius. that is what america needs. Leaders who would tell us that is is doable with purity.
love america

Joseph W. Mathews   January 31st, 2008 11:30 am ET

Another Obama supporter, volunteer and small contributor quotes Emeril and says "BAM! Kick It Up a Notch!"

His nomination is still a long shot, regardless of campaign donations.

GO OBAMA!!!!

west palm beach, Hawk   January 31st, 2008 11:29 am ET

Go Obama 08! I donated my entire check to you. America cant afford to continue on the same path that we are on. Obama 08

Marcelo   January 31st, 2008 11:29 am ET

Go Obama! I believe that you are bringing a positive change to our politics and that you'll win the presidential election over Hillary and McCain (because both have been in the political system for 25+ years, have had their chance to make meaningful change and have ultimately failed us by perpetuating divisive politics).

I don't have much extra cash (given the state of the economy) but what I can spare, I'll continue to donate to your campaign. Good Luck and God Bless!

Peter Brown   January 31st, 2008 11:28 am ET

That shows how strong he is,how people love him to lead this country that is divided, how many of us can raise 32 million within a month?

Dem Ohio   January 31st, 2008 11:28 am ET

I won't do any good.

Ivan, Chicago, Illinois   January 31st, 2008 11:28 am ET

Obama is a Jimmy Carter in waiting. To niave to sail the waters of Washington.
When reality jumps ups and bites him in the rear he will flounder just as Carter did.

Bob   January 31st, 2008 11:28 am ET

How did Candy Crowley "confirm" this? The fundraising totals do not have to be reported until April 15th so it is hard to confirm anything. Is she going by what the campaign has told her? Also, as the article states how much money he has on hand and how much he can spend for the primary is a much better judgement of actual finances.

vwcat   January 31st, 2008 11:27 am ET

I helped.
Gobama!

Mark Cross Junction VA   January 31st, 2008 11:24 am ET

Hollywood at its best! We have Rambo, Texas Ranger, Wrestler, and Fat Oprah backing the canidates. To bad we don't have real politicians running in the election.

Sam   January 31st, 2008 11:23 am ET

Another Clinton scandal. Bill and the mining deal and Hill did not help unions or women at Wal-mart. All the other news is reporting these new items today. Obama has my vote. Tired of the scandals of the Clintons.

Cheerio   January 31st, 2008 11:22 am ET

I'm proud to say I contributed $30 to that. And I'll be sending another $15 today. Goes to show that even people who can't afford big donations can get together and raise a lot of money for someone they believe in!

owl   January 31st, 2008 11:21 am ET

GOOD JOB........MONEY WELL SPENT ...GOOD INVESTMENT FOR THE COUNTRY.

Wonder where all this money is coming from . . . and why CNN continues to fill the political ticker with Obama news . . .is it because he paid for CNN political ads??

Ann   January 31st, 2008 11:20 am ET

Go Obama.. I donated money too..

Amy R.   January 31st, 2008 11:19 am ET

Obama donors are individuals. And that shows just how many Americans stand for Obama. They want change they can BELIEVE in. Not self-serving politicians who make big promises for years and nothing ever happens. Obama can make it happen!

truthmatters   January 31st, 2008 11:19 am ET

barack does not need any money from interest groups and lobbyists.
go obama2008

Here We Go America   January 31st, 2008 11:19 am ET

Well now, we know he wasn't doing any "fund raising" in Flordia now don't we.

I would be willing to bet a great amount of that money came from individuals like myself who is getting ready to make a small contribution. Never have contributed $ before but this is the year. The risks of Clinton in the White House are just too much.

Obama 08!

Jim ( Independent )   January 31st, 2008 11:18 am ET
